with a touch of sweetness | c.s
pairing: choi san x f!reader
summary: working at a cafe, you have to deal with a certain customer with dimples who always like his iced coffee extra sweet
genre: fluff, slight angst?
word count: 2.6k
a/n: i should be using this time to write my series but this idea came to me at 1am and i couldn't stop myself sdjskdssfkf
friendly brew
the font isn't too eyecatching, the style is a little bland, and the size of the cafe isn't ideal. but it's right next to a big and bustling university--attracting a lot of customers.
usually young, sleep-deprived college students, but it does well in business despite its shortcomings; a couple regulars who are very loyal, they frequent the place so often, you've come to match names to faces, as well as their usuals.
especially, choi san.
your face drops when you see it's him, trying to reframe from an eye roll as you go to tap the screen, mumbling in such an unenthusiastic tone, "one iced coffee?"
"yes please. and with extra vanilla syrup, please."
you don't say anything, a huff under your breath because you don't know why he always want his extra sweet. the regular one is already too sweet, in your honest opinion.
"thank you, angel."
"don't call me that," you snap quietly, pinching your brows together.
"why not?" his mouth draws a straight line before leaning closer to the counter and settling his arms on it, a smile eventually blossoming on his handsome face that makes those stupid dimples pop out. "you really are one, though. you always make my coffee the way i like it."
"because that's my job," you reply, going on to scribble his name on an empty cup before turning around to scoop up some ice for the drink.
after pouring the brewed coffee onto the cup of ice and milk, not forgetting the extra vanilla syrup as he requested, you place the finished product on the counter again before slapping a lid over it.
"well, then how come yoojung and kangmin never makes it the way i like it?"
you shrug, scooting the drink his direction.
"maybe they just don't like you? i mean, can you blame them?" you try to be snarky, but instead pretty much walked yourself into his trap.
"so... does this mean you like me?" he smirks, the retort immediately whisking your breath away. "because i swear..." he picks up the cup and takes a sip, your eyes innappropriately trailing to his adam's apple before he puts it down again to glare at you.
"you always make it the sweetest." he smiles softly and you hate how your heart dances around in your chest; hate the look in his eyes, and hate how much--
"you haven't even paid for it," you change the subject, trying the very best to hide the effect he has on you because god knows how smug he'll be if he finds out you're also just very good at putting on a performance.
he giggles and searches his pockets, pulling out a ten dollar bill and placing it on the counter.
"keep the change."
he grabs the drink and downs another sip, uttering in that usual sly tone, "thank you again, angel."
the wink before he fully exits is the last thing that does you in. he's so annoying, but like every other times, you can't help but to look forward to his next appearance.
ever since you got hired six months ago, having been a replacement for an older lady who had quit, there's not a single monday, wednesday, or friday that you do not see him. those are the days he comes in.
the boy having sparked an interest in you shortly after the first encounter, finding out the mean ahjumma who never made his drinks the way he likes it--it was always either too bitter or had too much milk--have been replaced by a girl about his age with a pretty smile, and who always makes his drinks exactly the way he prefers it.
"you know, angel, maybe someday, you'll finally draw some hearts around my name," san remarks, observing his name written plainly on the cup.
a dry chuckle tumbles out of you.
"you should be grateful i even wrote your name when i really wanted to put dickhead instead."
he frowns, placing his free hand over his chest and pretends to be in pain.
"ouch. i thought this was friendly brew? you're not being very friendly right now."
your interactions with him typically plays out like that, always with the small banters and playful exchanges; your harsh words and dismissive behaviors countering his that are the complete opposite.
but whenever you hear the bell to the door clink and you see it's him, the butterflies in your stomach along with the tiniest smile that graces your lips always prove otherwise.
"what other names to substitute instead of dickhead? maybe pervert? creep? nuisance?" you cock an eyebrow.
"okay now, that is a reach. i just really really like you."
there's a short silence that befalls when he says that, your eyelashes blinking and the quietest gulp traveling down your throat.
"san, don't say things you don't mean."
"who said i don't mean it?"
"but... i'm mean to you."
his lips quirks to the side, his shoulders shrugging and not moved in the slightest from your statement.
"i don't mind."
"and also, i can't even stand you."
"even better. i love a challenge."
you roll your eyes, bouts of giggles suddenly appearing from behind, turning around and seeing yoojung and kangmin straightening up immediately as if they weren't prying on your conversation with the boy who you have already denied having a crush on.
you absolutely do not like san. not at all.
you just get a little giddy at the sight of him, and lately, you've developed a knack for listening to stories about how his day at campus went, although you always act like you don't care.
and sometimes--not often--but sometimes, your stomach will churn in the weirdest way whenever he'll talk about his female classmates; the worst being when he actually comes with one of them, her eyes full of admiration and his with something you can't quite read but still effective in invoking that pang of jealousy you're in denial of.
but something else so consistent about him aside from his flirty tactics, is the smile on his face never falters. you don't think you can ever recalll a single time he didn't walk into the shop with that idiotic grin.
which is why you know something is off the minute he comes up to the counter and a rather sullen look is his current expression.
"one iced coffee?" you're the one to speak up, and he nods in return, the silence from him is almost too out of character.
he doesn't even seem to be paying much attention when you go on to write his name, his mind seemingly elsewhere, so you take the chance to grab a sticky note to write something on it, sticking it on the cup when finished.
"one iced coffee with extra vanilla syrup."
he fiddles with the pockets of his jacket and gives you eight dollars to be exact. you remember asking him why he would sometimes give more than the cost and he told you it was for the 'service'.
yoojung and kangmin has assured you they never got tipped for their 'service' before.
he picks the drink up and shoots you one last smile, mumbling, "thank you, angel."
you have to remind yourself that san isn't just the cute annoying guy who would always hit on you every time he comes in for his coffee. that he has a life outside of conjuring up butterflies and pestering you, he's going to have bad days and you shouldn't overthink so much.
next time he comes in, it will be with that idiotic grin alongside those pleas that's become a permanent residency in your head.
except... he doesn't.
not this wednesday and not the following friday.
you see wooyoung the next monday, recognizing him as san's friend the few times he came with him to grab a cup of americano.
it's a constant battle whether you should or should not ask about his friend who'd usually pay you weekly visits, but now all of a sudden dropping off the face of earth.
eventually, you settle for should not, bidding wooyoung the customary parting; a melancholy feeling brewing when there's no sight of the black-haired boy with sharp eyes and dimples on wednesday, as well.
it's a known, rather unspoken fact that you always look forward to the showing of san, no matter how pestering and annoying he is with his attempts that makes you want to roll your eyes all the way to back of your head, the small ten to fifteen minutes exchange you'd have with him were always the highlight of your shift.
if he has given up or found someone else who makes his coffee even better, you think it'd be nice to get a proper notice at least.
friday shifts are usually your favorite because there's no tedious routine you have to follow, like commuting from class a good couple minutes away; you get to rest on the weekend after, and you start early, so you get out early, allowing the remaining of the day to be spent however you'd like.
the hour and a half left before you get to clock out is slow, the counters being wiped over and over again because you're trying to kill time, bending over and under to get spots you think you might have missed, when you hear the sound of footsteps approaching.
"welco--"
the word cuts short and the towel in your clutch drops onto the counter, your eyes only able to stare ahead in a starstruck gaze at the person before you, your heart doing laps but at the same time, there's a wave of relief that comes over.
"hi." san smiles, his messy black hair slightly falling over his eyes and the gray hoodie he's wearing clipped under his backpack makes him look like the college boyfriend you wish you had.
you swallow a knot, playing it cool.
"darn, i thought i finally got rid of you for good."
san chuckles... damn him for being so good looking.
"oh, i know you were miserable, yearning for that something that was missing from your everyday life."
"please..." you dismiss, actually hating how much truth it holds.
"you're not going to ask why i was gone?" he pouts.
you lowly sigh in annoyance, though the question has been plaguing your mind ever since his mysterious disappearance.
"okay... why were you gone?" you try to contain the tone, afraid you just might let the eagerness slip through.
"i was sick."
you raise an eyebrow in concern.
"oh... well... how are you now?"
his eyes swell innocently, genuinely surprised by the softer voice.
"a lot better now. thank you for asking, angel." he cracks a tiny smile.
oh, how you have come to miss such a nickname that used to raise your blood pressure just because you haven't heard it in over a week.
"i thought you have officially ran away or maybe you found a better shop."
he retracts with an offended scowl on his face.
"never. i would never do that to you."
you fight off a smile, quick to tap the screen and divert the subject.
"one iced coffee?"
"well, yes, but actually," he fidgets in his spot, "i was thinking if you want to uh... hang out after your shift?"
you look up from the screen to glare at him.
"huh?" you heard him, you just... want to make sure.
he's always flirted with you shamelessly, but actually asking you out is something he's never tried before. of course he's had a few impulses but have always reframed from acting on them, until now.
"i'm asking if you want to do something together. cause you know... just figured we can catch up. when you're done with your shift, of course."
the longest stare-off between you and him ensues shortly after, and you think for the first time, san might be growing shy.
you chuckle quietly, breaking the silence, and a smile blossoming on your lips.
"i get off in about an hour and a half."
"perfect. i'll come back then."
you find san seated on a nearby bench when you're out, watching the way he whips his head side to side to admire the scenery.
"your coffee," you announce, your arm stretched out, and he snaps to you immediately, eyes scanning over your attire.
he's never seen you in anything other than your work uniform. he thinks you look even prettier with that sweater vest and pair of jeans. but then, you're always too pretty for your own good.
"extra sweet?" he asks, all playfully.
"extra sweet," you reply, taking the seat next to him and observe as he goes to confirm it.
"doesn't taste like it."
you scoff. "well, maybe you have officially lost your taste bud."
he hums and scoots even closer to you, the side of his leg touching yours.
"that would require more testing. maybe you can help? bet you taste sweeter than anything. i wonder how it would be, to kiss an angel."
an even louder scoff falls from you.
"don't flatter me. and i'm not kissing you."
he laughs and shakes his head.
"i'm not lying when i say that. i was honestly having such a shitty time, having been denied an internship i really wanted, only to get sick not even a day after."
the amusement on you is fast to dissipate, replaced by a look of sympathy.
"oh... was that why you looked so down that day?"
he smiles rather lightly.
"yeah. but it's whatever. i'll just try again next time or apply for a different one."
there's a moment of the birds chirping high in the sky and the sound of pedestrians walking until you speak again.
"sorry to hear..."
you feel bad for him, understanding the feeling all too well; like you're incompetent and not good enough. on top of that, he even got sick afterward.
"i always knew you cared about me," he says, breaking all the empathy bones in your body--you having to settle for a major eye roll.
"pfft."
"you know... when i sick, i always looked back to your note and it always made me feel a little better afterward despite quite literally dying in bed."
a sheer chuckle bubbles out of you at the confession.
"i don't believe you," you tell him.
he looks you straight in the eye and shakes his head, vouching for his honesty.
"i'm forreal. look, i even brought it with me today."
your eyebrows furrow together as you watch him search his hoodie with his free hand, pulling the familiar piece of paper out of one of the pockets, still able to comprehend the black ink you were responsible for.
i added just the littlest bit more of vanilla syrup bc you seemed a little down. not too much though bc i'm already worried abt ur glucose level. but hope u feel better soon.
"you're... crazy."
the temperature on your cheeks heats up like crazy, san witnessing them in action as they turn a bright shade of pink, unable to help the lovesick smile that breaks out on his face.
then another stare-off follows, the longest silence hanging between you two that both badly wants to break but too unsure how.
you take the opportunity to admire his features; his keen jawline, sharp eyes, and oh... the slit in between one of his eyebrows that makes him look extra attractive.
then your gaze travels to his lips. plumped, luscious, and just waiting to be taken in--and it must've been how you've been wanting to kiss him for so long now, that one second you're apart, and the next, your lips are stilled against his when you go to place a peck on them.
pulling away, you search him for a reaction; he's a bit dazed and stunned, until the corners of his mouth turns and a soft smile overtakes his expression.
"you really are an angel sent from heaven."

get it right [c.y.j.]
Choi Yeonjun, the cute barista at your local café, just can't seem to get your name right. It's not until Christmas that he lets you know why.
➳ Characters: barista!Yeonjun x female!reader/you
➳ Genre: fluff, romance, uni au, café au
➳ Words: 1.8k
➳ Warning: mentions of food (let me know if there are more)
➳ A/N: This idea has been in the back of my mind for so long, but it wasn’t supposed to be Christmas-themed. I hope you enjoy it nevertheless! ❤️
Choi Yeonjun was a menace. An annoyingly handsome and a blushingly flirty menace. He was also the cute barista at the local café you frequented, and he just couldn't seem to get your name right whenever you ordered coffee to go. Sometimes your name was missing a few letters or the letters were switched, but there were times when the name scribbled down on the plastic paper wasn't even close to your name.
There was no way Yeonjun couldn't remember your name because you were a frequent customer, and because he actually initiated conversations with you while he was making your drink. Since you usually got yourself a coffee in the morning before you headed to uni to study at the library (because there was no way you could study in the dorms, your roommates weren’t exactly a fan of you studying so early in the morning), there weren't a lot of people coming into the café at such an early hour, but Yeonjun was always there. Since it wasn't peak time, he was the one who got and made your order, but in the afternoon, when there were a lot of visitors buzzing around, one barista received your order and another one made your drink.
You were in luck, it seemed, that you did have some time to speak to him while waiting for your drink because he was a fun company. Maybe a bit too flirty for his own good, but you guessed that he was like that with everyone else, too. Not until your best friend, Yoojung, actually went to your favourite café for the first time, did you dare to think otherwise.
"There's no way he's like that with everyone. You see, there were some girls in front of me outright telling him how handsome he is, and he didn't flirt back! Also, I got only a smiley beside my name on the cup," she reasoned as she held up her own cup of coffee, proving her point. "And you say that you have hearts beside your name. I don't think that's a coincidence," she pointed out with a mischievous smile as she smacked your side.
"No, how can it be? He can't even spell my name right," you shook your head, but you had to admit that you were less sure about being just an ordinary customer for the boy. Could it be that he liked you? No, no way. He was just so cool, friendly, easy-going and still caring, he must have liked similarly cool girls. Not that you had low self-esteem, it's just that you were more on the introverted side, you were sometimes searching for the right words to say, and you were blushing so hard whenever he complimented you, it was wild to imagine that he might like someone like you.
"Well, maybe he's doing it on purpose," Yoojung mused out loud, resting her head on her arms propped up on a pile of books. With her, a study session never stayed just a study session, and ever since you dared to bring up Yeonjun in your conversations, she was always waiting for the updates.
"What purpose?"
"I don't know. I don't get boys."
"But you have a boyfriend," you pointed out, and Yoojung couldn't help but laugh. Him and Hendery getting together was one of the surprises of last semester, but it's not like you couldn't see the sparks. It's just that your best friend was in denial about her feelings towards him, and she couldn't take the boy seriously either.
"Hendery is a different species," she rolled her eyes yet it was in an affectionate way, and there was a certain degree of gentleness in her tone.
"Anyways, let's get back to game theory," you suggested as you flipped a page in your textbook. Your best friend grunted in response.
"Aaah, your cute barista is waaaaay more interesting than game theory."
The next time you went to the café, you tried to see if something was different in the way Yeonjun acted with others and with you. However, due to the early hour, there was only a businessman in his 50s in front of you in the queue, and he didn't flirt with the man.
"Hey there, my favourite customer!" He greeted you gleefully though, and already got a plastic cup ready.
"Whose name you still can't spell right," you teased, but there was a smile in the corner of your lips. Yeonjun faked being hurt by your words and theatrically placed a hand over his heart.
"You're still my favourite customer though."
"Alright. I guess that counts."
"It does. Not even my friends can have this title," he explained with a mischievous smile as he leaned forward, lowering his voice as if it was a secret. Though you knew all too well that some of his friends didn't even drink coffee, there were some who attended universities far away from his workplace and the others didn't frequent the café as much as you did.
"Anyways, I'll take the usual," you let him know, trying to shush Yoojung's voice in your head.
"Cool. We have a buy one, get one free discount today, so you can have two. Will you take the same for the second?"
"Well, what's your favourite drink here?" You inquired, genuinely curious. It was no surprise that he already knew your order by heart because you ordered the same pretty much every single time you came here (even on days it wasn't his shift in the morning, but the other baristas didn't know your favourite order like he did). So you were actually interested in his preference.
"Hmm I like iced lattes, but it's getting colder these days, so I usually go for a caramel frappuccino with lots of whipped cream," he explained in his usual enthusiastic voice, and the simple joy of talking about his favourite drink (or rather, you asking about it) made you smile widely.
"Then, make me one of your recent favourite drinks," you decided, and he giddily got started on it while asking about your tests coming up. Winter break was only a few weeks away, so you had a lot of studying to do for your exams, but by waking up early and going to the library to study, you were already working on it.
When you got your order, both of the cups had your name misspelled, but both of the cups had little hearts on them, too. You cracked a smile before taking your usual order and pointing at the other one:
"It's for you. Hope you have a great day!" You wished with a wide smile, and before Yeonjun could protest, you were already outside of the café. Through the windows though, you could see the boy's face lighting up as he reached for the drink and took a sip from it, content.
Well, he always made your days, so it was time to pay him back.
Yoojung, as expected, faked gagging at your gesture towards the boy, but it seemed so right in the moment. Not to mention that your best friend was even more sure by now that the boy liked you, but you weren't that sure, and it would be awkward if you misread the signs because you were such a frequent visitor at the café.
However, as you neared winter break, and you talked about going home for the holidays, you couldn't help but notice Yeonjun's lips curling downwards. You asked if he was working during the winter break since you knew that he was from around here, and he said that he was off for one whole week, but he would get back to work afterwards.
"I might be meeting friends here in early January, so I might come by," you blurted out, and it seemed like such an unnecessary piece of information that you almost told him to forget about it. However, seeing the boy's bright eyes and insanely wide smile, you didn't mind doing so.
"Really? That's cool. I'll be here anyway, you know," he tried to shrug it off coolly, but he was fighting contentment painting his lips. He looked so happy, your heart did little somersaults at the sight.
"Can't let your favourite customer miss out on coming by for weeks," you joked around, and he joined you.
"Can't let you not have your daily dose of Choi Yeonjun," he winked at you before he turned around to reach for the milk bag, but as he was pouring it into your cup, he looked up, suddenly alarmed. "Wait, is this your last day before going home then?"
"Yeah, actually, it is," you nodded, and suddenly, you realised that you didn't know what to say or do. It's not a goodbye after all, is it? However, you were coming here almost every single day for the past few months, and Yeonjun had become such a solid part of your days that you had a feeling that you would miss this, that you would miss him.
"Oh, I see," Yeonjun mumbled, uncharacteristically solemn. You got a message on your phone at this time, so you looked at it, writing back to one of your group project partners, telling her that you would be at the library in 15 minutes.
When you put your phone back into your coat's pocket and you reached for your drink, you automatically took a sip of it. You let out a content hum and Yeonjun smiled affectionately.
"Merry Christmas! Don't miss me too much," he winked at you, dissolving the earlier serious atmosphere, and you smiled back at him, thankful and a bit bashful, too.
"Merry Christmas, Yeonjun!" You wished, albeit a bit bittersweet, and there was an odd feeling taking over you as you made your way outside of the café.
As you lifted the cup to your mouth, you noticed more words than just your name on the side of the cup, and you halted in your steps to get a full view of it.
"It's my number in case you miss me too much, y/n!
P.S.: I know your name, I just wanted to have a reason at all times to talk to you"
Smiling, you immediately typed the number into your phone, sending Yeonjun a message. He replied almost instantly, teasing you if you already missed him. To which, you said that maybe you did.
After that, there was nothing that could put an end to your texts, and soon enough, you found yourself on a date with him in January because Yoojung was right; Yeonjun truly did misspelled your name on purpose.

you good? | 04

summary; hansol vernon chwe is crying at his doorstep like a taylor swift music video, and you’re for some reason there to help pairing; hvc / reader (f) genre/warnings; neighbors to friends, friends to lovers!au, slice of life, fluff, angst, mentions of sex, tw—cheating, mentions of pregnancy related to cheating, profanity w/c; 1k a/n; thank you god of music [masterpost]
“It’s him, isn’t it,” Jihoon juts his petal pink lips towards the door next to yours, and you can’t help but slap him on his chest. “You have a crush on him?”
“Had a crush, had,” you pout, pressing your back against the open door frame of your apartment.
“Once a crush, always a crush,” he reaches over to wipe the sweat off your brow, flicking his thumb over your flushed cheek. “Was he the friend you had over for dinner the other day?”
“What will it prove if I say yes?”
“It’ll prove that I have competition,” he teases, pinching the apple of your cheek.
“Stop it,” you whine, tugging at the waistband of his haphazardly reapplied sweatpants. They're barely hanging on his hips, as you two were rushing to reclothe due to future commitments.
"What?" He laughs, "he seems like a nice guy. A little crazy for trying to move out at 5AM last week but I feel for him."
"I don't even know anything about him, at least not anymore," you frown. To be honest, you don't even know the aftermath of what went down with Vernon and Yoojung. You really want to, but you don't feel like you're on that level to ask any follow up questions. Which brings you to your next point, he's getting over a long term relationship that ended messy. There's no way you could entertain a crush while he's still crushed.
"But you want to," Jihoon nudges you close, and pulls you into a hug, "no shame in that."
Jihoon's grasp feels so familiar, your arms fitting in all the right spots and your head tucked snugly in his shoulder. You peruse the thought of pursuing your landlord, it would be so easy. You suppose, you're already compatible both physically and mentally. It's just the pesky issue of trying to develop feelings.
The door next to yours opens and you squeal, pushing yourself away from the embrace. You pushed so hard, hard enough that if Jihoon didn't grab you by the arms you'd be knocking your back against the wall.
"Oh, hi guys!" Vernon is tugging a gigantic garbage bag outside, one lanky leg propping the door up and the other leg stretching to get the trash bag out.
"H-hi Vern!"
You can feel Jihoon’s smug grin, knowing that you’re acutely aware of both boys staring between you like an Oreo sandwich.
“You good?” Vernon asks, tilting his head between the two of you.
“Ah, yeah. Just had to fix a leak,” Jihoon shrugs, and you want to choke at the way it’s so easy for him to lie, “but we’re all good now.”
“Cool. Actually, now that you mention it,” Vernon tugs with all his might at the trash bag, and with a big ugh! It’s out the door and into the hallway, “I noticed that my shower faucet is a little loose and sometimes it causes more water to leak out? Everytime I try to tighten it I feel like I’m gonna break it.”
“That’s ironic, her leak was also in the shower.”
What the actual fuck?
You turn away from both boys, stare at a speck at the ground so you don’t get caught. Jihoon really wants you to die, right here, right now.
“I can take a look tomorrow, is two good?”
“Sure—wait, AM or PM?”
“You really want me to come in at 2AM?”
“Op, my bad,” Vernon chuckles, “two’s good. Text me when you come down. Let me know if you want pizza or something. You good with pineapple?”
“Pineapple’s great,” Jihoon agrees, “I’ll see you then.”
“Thanks Landlordie, you’re the best!”
While the two of them talk like long lost friends, you’re spiraling. Of course, there’s no way that Vernon could know the double entendre Jihoon is trying to pull. Yet, it starts to make you paranoid. Your back pinpricks, and you think back to not an hour ago when you two were in the shower. I mean, the shower is on the opposite side of the apartment, there’s no way he could have heard you, right?
“Good night hyung,” Vernon’s voice breaks you away, and you notice that Jihoon is already down the hall, waving the both of you goodbye. “Good night neighbor,” Vernon says, quiet and reserved for you.
You tack on a smile and watch as Vernon catches up to Jihoon to the trash room, dragging the trash bag with a sharp metal object peeking out of the corner. “Night,” you reply, waiting until both boys are out of the floor before going back into your apartment.
Letting out a breath you didn’t know you were holding, leaning against the door and letting the cool surface calm you down.
You are so confused.

Summary: Four grown siblings return to their childhood hometown after their father is declared to be terminal. They are forced to live under the same roof for days, along with their overbearing mother, to say their final goodbyes. It starts off nostalgic until some unresolved family issues along with an assortment of spouses, exes, and might-have-beens make things even more interesting.
A/N: Second of three mini-updates. Thanks for being so patient! Thank you to my loves, @internetjunkdrawer and @itdoesntmatterwhy for reading through this angst-fest. I appreciate you both 💜
A/N2: One of the scenes here was lifted from 500 Days of Summer, just slightly paraphrased 🥺
Thirty minutes later, after bidding your kids and mom goodbye, you all pile into Yoojung and Jin's minivan. Jin takes the front seat while Yoojung is at the wheel. You and Namjoon sit in the row behind them, while Taehyung sits in the rear by himself.
Jin and Yoojung are quietly bickering in the front seat. “I can drive, yeobo,” he says.
“Congratulations. I can drive, too,” she responds as she secures her seatbelt and puts the keys in the ignition.
“Are you sure?” He asks. “What about your headache?”
“I’m fine,” she stresses. “I took some medicine an hour ago and I can get us all to Hobi’s, okay?” Jin nods and decidedly drops the subject.
Taehyung starts complaining, "How come I have to sit all the way back here?"
"I need the legroom," Namjoon replies matter-of-factly.
Taehyung rolls his eyes and retorts, "Couldn't YN-noona sit back here?"
You interject, "I wish I could, but I get car sick, remember?" You shove Namjoon's leg out of your way so you can buckle your seatbelt. He clicks his teeth in annoyance. Shooting him a glare, you say, "Quit man-spreading then!" He rolls his eyes and scoots to the other side to give you some room.
Annoyed and feeling left out, Taehyung blows out raspberries.
Jin sees the opportunity to tease his youngest brother and asks through the rearview mirror, "Do you need a booster seat back there?"
"I can grab Joobin's seat from my car?” You ask jokingly.
“Yeah, the law says you're supposed to sit in it until you reach 80 pounds or 4'9" in height - whichever comes first," Namjoon piles on.
"That's just great. Pick on the dongsaeng... ha-ha," Taehyung adds sarcastically.
Everyone laughs, including Taehyung who can't resist joining in despite his annoyance.
"Everybody buckled up?" Yoojung asks sweetly.
"Yessss! Now can we please go?" Taehyung whines.
As you finally settle into your seats, Yoojung turns the ignition on and the car starts moving away from the curb.
You turn to Namjoon and whisper, "Is Vee coming?" To which he responds with a head shake and an equally lowered voice. "No. She felt guilty skipping but I said it was fine. She did a lot today so I told her it might be best to stay off her feet and rest."
You nod in agreement and comment, "That's thoughtful of you." He shrugs noncommittally and says, "I'm just thinking about the baby."
"If you say so," you say under your breath.
******
Hobi's decision to close Hangsang for the day in solidarity with your family was a heartwarming gesture that you deeply appreciated. As you arrive, you are greeted by familiar faces, including classmates, childhood friends, and some of the restaurant's staff. It is comforting to see so many people who care about you and your family.
Despite the somber atmosphere, there is also a sense of joy and mischief in the air. You can feel your father's presence in the room.
Your best friend, Naya, walks up to you with her arms wide open, engulfing you in a hug. "Hey, hun." Your throat stings, making you take a deep breath so you won't lose it in front of all these people.
“By the way, I forgot to text you, but–”
Before she finishes her sentence, you already have a good guess about what she meant to warn you about. To your surprise, you see Dara, a former classmate from high school, walking around to pass shots to your brothers. When she reaches you, she hands you your drink and smiles awkwardly.
"Hi, YN. Good to see you," you say as you take the glass from her.
"H-hey, Dara. Long time no see," you reply, surprised to see her. Taehyung had only mentioned that family and close friends would be present at Hobi's invitation. You and Dara were never close and even had a disagreement early on during your relationship with Hobi.
You and Hobi were keeping your relationship secret at school. You didn't want your brothers to find out, but due to your own carelessness, they eventually they did. Dara was Hobi's algebra tutor and followed him around like a puppy. She flirted with him despite his attempts to keep his distance.
So you took matters into your own hands—which at the time, happened to be her hair.
It has been a few years since then, and although it was water under the bridge, seeing her still came as a shock to you.
Seeing the puzzled look on your face, Dara decides to explain. "I know you weren't expecting to see me. I work here every now and then just to help Hoseokie out."
Your eyes subtly flick over to Naya, who is shifting uncomfortably, before darting back to Dara. "I see," you say.
"Hoseokie wanted everyone to get drinks as soon as they walked in. Also, uhm, I'm very sorry for your loss," Dara says apologetically.
You smile politely at her. "Thank you, I appreciate that."
After a moment of hesitation, she speaks again. "I also wanted you to know that your dad was especially kind to me after my husband passed away. He was always there for me when I needed someone to talk to," Her voice trails off with a hint of sadness.
Her personal confession catches you off-guard. “I’m sorry to hear about your husband,” you say sympathetically. “I’m not surprised that my dad would do that for you. That’s just the kind of person he is, or…was.”
With a small nod, she excuses herself and walks off to check on other guests.
Shortly after, Hobi spots your group from behind the bar and asks Yoongi to turn the music down for a moment. All eyes turn to him as he makes an announcement.
"Thanks, hyung," he says to Yoongi. "And thanks for coming, everyone." You feel the anticipation building as Hobi pauses for a moment.
Before he can continue, there's a knock on the door.
Everyone takes a quick look around the room to see who's missing but it seems like everyone's already here.
Dara walks over to the window to identify the unexpected guest. When she recognizes the figure, she immediately unlocks the door for them.
Taehyung shouts in excitement as his childhood best friend, Jimin, makes his entrance. He enthusiastically waves him over and welcomes him with a big hug.
As Jimin joins the circle, he apologizes for being late. "I'm sorry for interrupting, Hobi-hyung," he says to Hobi. "Please, continue!"
"Thanks, Dr. Park," Hobi replies with a chuckle before proceeding with his toast. "Today is a day to remember and celebrate a great friend and member of our community, Kim Beomsok."
At the mention of your father's name, you and your brothers instinctively reach for each other.
Hobi turns to your family with a serious expression. "I think I speak for everyone here when I say that your dad was not only a good friend but also a father figure to many of us at some point in our lives," he says. "I remember when he helped me out when I was going through a tough time with my own dad being sick. I'm sure each and every one of you has a story like that to share."
"So, I encourage everyone to share their memories with our guests of honor here," Hobi says, raising his glass toward your family. "I think the best way to honor someone’s memory is to remember how they lived." As Hobi finishes, you see everyone nodding in agreement. You feel the shared feeling of love and loss for your father.
He raises his glass and you all follow suit. “Hear, hear,” Jin declares, and everyone echoes the sentiment.
Your father would have felt uncomfortable knowing that everyone was throwing a party for him. He didn't like being the center of attention. He would have asked everyone to have one drink and call it a day. Nonetheless, you appreciate the sincere thought behind this gathering.
******
“I’m sorry I couldn’t make it in time for the service, hyung,” Jimin says as he approaches Jin. He comes up to greet Yoojung and gives her a hug.
“That’s alright, Jiminah. We understand.” Jin responds.
“I also wanted to take this opportunity to apologize for how everything with your dad went down. I didn’t mean to be secretive. It’s just that he insisted and with doctor-patient confidentiality–”
“Jiminie,” Jin interjects, patting him on the shoulder gently. “It’s fine, really. As much as we loved dad, he had his reasons. None of us blame you.” Jin reminisces about the years he spent with his father, both the good and the bad. He recalls how his father would always put on a brave face, no matter what was happening in his life, and preferred to carry his own burden.
Jimin nods, relieved that you didn’t hold your father’s decisions against him. “Thank you, hyung. I’m glad you understand.”
Jin puts his arm around Jimin’s shoulder. “Of course. You’re family.”
“I know you’ll probably get this a lot tonight but,” he raises his glass to Jin. “How ‘bout a toast to abeonim?”
“Of course,” Jin chuckles and clinks his glass against Jimin's, while Yoojung taps her bottled water against their alcoholic drinks.
After taking a sip, Yoojung interrupts to switch subjects briefly. "Jiminah, I know you're off-duty, so I almost feel awkward asking for your professional opinion, at a bar, no less.”
Jimin throws his head back in laughter, his eyes crinkling in amusement. “Noona, I may be out of the clinic but I’m never truly off-duty.” As his laughter subsides, he asks, “What do you need medical advice on?”
With some hesitation, she glances at Jin. “I don’t know, yeobo. Maybe I was just tired–”
“Just tell him,” he urges her gently.
“It’s okay, noona,” Jimin reassures her.
"So, I don't know if it's just the fertility treatments or maybe the stress of the last few days," she recounts. "I was feeling faint yesterday. I think I was just dehydrated, to be honest, but Jin was concerned."
Jin sighs. He was only worried about her. "I still don't understand why you're not more concerned. You haven't been eating well, and you're complaining about back pain and dizziness…"
“Any exhaustion? Nausea?” Jimin presses.
“A little bit of both,” she answers. “But I usually feel like this during a new cycle. Maybe I’m coming down with something? I’ve had my hands full the last few days.” She tries to rationalize.
“Have you done an at-home test?” Jimin asks her.
Jin and Yoojung’s eyebrows furrow at the same time. Yoojung hadn’t done a pregnancy test since that one evening–which seems like ages ago now after everything that’s transpired since then. “I did several days ago but it was…negative.” The tail-end of her response was laced with frustration.
“Well,” Jimin starts, “I know obstetrics isn’t my specialty but if you’ve ever heard of false-positive home tests, it’s also entirely possible to get a false-negative.”
Jimin was aware of their fertility struggles because it was he who had referred them to another colleague. He knows how emotionally draining these journeys can be, so he did not want to give them false hope. He quickly suggested, "Again, not my area of expertise, but I would recommend doing another at-home test. It has been a few days since your last one, so you can try again. If you get the same result but still experience symptoms, contact your OB and they can do a blood test to give you a clearer answer."
Jin turns to his wife and says, "It's up to you."
After pausing to decide, she sighs and says, "I might still have one test in my bag. We can do it when we get home." Jin purses his lips, knowing that Yoojung is still determined, but it tore him up to see the heartbreak and disappointment on her face every time that second line failed to appear on the tiny pee-stick screen.
She gently squeezes his hand and calmly says, "We'll be okay." What she really means is that she will be okay. Although she doesn't say it in so many words, her voice assures Jin that she is prepared for whatever the result may be.
After a quick nod to her, he turns to Jimin and thanks him.
******
Taehyung and Eunhae sit across from each other at a booth and make some attempts at a conversation.
“I hope you’re not missing too much work,” he comments blandly.
“It’s sort of our off-season so, not too bad. I’ve been able to log in at the hotel and make calls from there.” She fidgets with her beer bottle.
“And you’re not going to get in trouble not being on-site?”
“No,” she smiles. “I can do my work anywhere, as long as I’ve got a laptop and an internet connection.”
He falls silent, keeping his gaze on Eunhae.
She looks up and catches him staring. “What is it?”
“I…” He begins apprehensively, “I was wondering–”
His thought goes unfinished when Jimin interrupts them. “Hey, bro,” Jimin greeted his best friend.
“Jiminie,” Taehyung smiles softly, rising to give him a lingering hug. “How are you?” Jimin asks, giving Taehyung’s shoulder a comforting squeeze.
Taehyung shrugs and sits back down. “I’m okay, I guess.”
Still standing, Jimin’s eyes drift to Eunhae. “Hi there,” he greets her.
Taehyung sees that glint in his best friend’s eye and decides to act quickly. “Eunhae, this is one of my best friends, Jimin. Jimin, this is Eunhae. She’s uh…” he pauses, thinking of an appropriate term to call their ‘association’ with each other.
“A friend from the city,” she smiled, sticking her hand out to shake Jimin’s.
His eyebrows rose in recognition. “Ah, so you’re Eunhae.” He exchanged a knowing look with Taehyung. “I’ve heard about you,” he says.
“I hope only good things?” Eunhae says before taking a swig of her beer.
“Always,” Jimin answers confidently, subtly winking at Taehyung.
“You’re the doctor, right?” She asks with some uncertainty. Even though they had long established not to share any personal stories with each other as part of their little casual sex agreement, Taehyung would still unknowingly drop the occasional tidbit during pillow talk.
“You’ve been talking about me?” Jimin scrunched up his nose and teased his best friend.
“Not like that,” Taehyung says with a subtle eye roll.
“Well,” Jimin says, nudging Taehyung to scoot down a bit so he could squeeze into the seat next to him. “I don’t know if Taehyung has ever mentioned that I’m a straight-shooter,” he says with a wink. “I have to ask, do you have a boyfriend?”
Taehyung covers his face with his hands, wishing the ground would swallow him up. He’s whined to friends about Eunhae more than just ‘a few times’ so Jimin certainly knows a bit more than what he lets on.
“Nope,” Eunhae answers simply.
“And why not?” Jimin asks.
“I like my independence,” she answers confidently.
Jimin smirks and Eunhae scoffs in return. “What? You don’t believe that a woman can just have a great time being free to do what she wants?”
“Eunhae, please excuse my friend. I think the marathon on-call schedules have messed with his head,” Taehyung says apologetically.
“Well, allow me to break it down for you.” Eunhae begins.
“Yes, please enlighten me!” Jimin flashes an eager smile and leans in closer.
“I like being on my own. Relationships are messy, feelings can get hurt. I’m still young and don’t feel like being tied down. And labels? Who needs them? If you’re consenting adults, I think that’s all you need.”
Jimin opens his mouth to speak but is immediately cut off by Taehyung. “But what happens if you fall in love?” His question makes Jimin slowly turn his head toward his friend and then at Eunhae. This ought to be good.
“Love? Come on, Tae,” Eunhae says dismissively. “That’s just a fairy tale.”
He scoffs at her answer. “It’s love, not mermaids.“
She laughs at his retort. “Still, lots of marriages end in divorce—“
“Not my parents,” he contests. “They stayed together and they were happy.”
Eunhae clears her throat, conceding to his specific point. “Your parents are a rarity—a unicorn, if we’re keeping with the fairy tale theme.”
Jimin tries to interrupt again, but Taehyung is quick with his argument. "So what if it's rare? Doesn't that mean a successful relationship is possible?" he says.
Eunhae looks at him, still skeptical. “Then maybe you should tell me what I’m missing.”
Taehyung thinks for a moment, then replies, "It's a feeling that's hard to explain. It's a connection that's deeper than words. You just know it when you feel it."
While Eunhae ponders on his words, Jimin takes advantage of the lull in their little debate, effectively breaking the tension around them. "Alright, alright! How about we just agree to disagree? Relationships are complex! I don’t think we can figure out this in one night."
He then rises from his seat to get another drink. "But I do have to say, this is quite an interesting topic, right?" With a nod, he heads toward the bar, leaving Taehyung and Eunhae to continue to stare at each other from across the table, lost in their own thoughts.

“When did she start working here? Namjoon never mentioned anything to me.” You kept your tone hushed while asking Naya about Dara. This really shouldn’t be affecting you. Hobi owns the business and can hire whoever he wants.
“I think she’s been working here for–” she took a deep breath, trying to jog her memory, “I want to say, a couple of years? On and off.”
“Interesting,” you say. “Do you know who was she married to?”
Naya shrugged. “All I know is that he’s not from around here. I think he was in the military?” She sighed and lowered her voice before speaking again, “Killed in action, they said.” You wince.
"She moved back here shortly after they brought him home. She lives here but works in another town during the week and tries to pick up work wherever and whenever she can. I'm pretty sure your dad gave her a couple of shifts when he would cater events, too. My guess is that she's just trying to fill her time, so she wouldn't think too much about what happened.”
Your face falters as you hear more about Dara's unfortunate circumstances. In hindsight, you realize that holding onto a petty high school feud was not worth it.
"After all these years, glad to know your gossip radar is still exceptional," you remark in jest.
Naya closes her eyes and smiles bashfully. "That's what happens when you never leave the hometown you were born and raised in. You know everything about everybody." She gives you a knowing look.
As you get lost in your thoughts, you notice Jimin heading your way.
"Noona!" he says with a goofy grin on his face, seeming to have had a couple of drinks. You hope he doesn't have to work tomorrow.
You beam back and greet him, "Dr. Park!" He throws his head back and lets out a belly laugh. "Stop it with that! I'm still the same guy who used to eat your secret snacks!"
Your jaw drops and your eyes widen. "I knew you and Taehyung were stealing my snacks!" you exclaim.
"Noona, you should find a better hiding place than your parents’ empty instant coffee tin," he laughs. You playfully poke him in the side, which elicits more laughter from him.

Yoongi walks out of the kitchen carrying a bucket of ice to refill the bin behind the bar. He notices Hobi standing still, with his shoulders rounded in and neck hunched forward. He is clutching a bottle of tequila with two empty shot glasses in front of him and has a faraway look in his eyes. Yoongi follows his gaze across the room and sees you standing next to Jimin, having an animated conversation with him.
Hobi is unaware that he is being watched, but Yoongi decides to break him out of his reverie by noisily dumping the ice bucket into the bin. Hobi flinches from the sudden loud sound.
“Yah, hyung. You scared me!” Hobi clutches his chest.
“Sorry. Pouring ice quietly is impossible,” he remarks sarcastically. “What are you doing?”
“N-nothing. Just pouring drinks,” Hobi stutters.
“You sure about that? You look like you’re hiding.” Yoongi accuses.
“Hiding? I’m not hiding! I’m right out in the open.”
“I meant you’re hiding from her.” Yoongi tilts his chin up, gesturing in your direction.
Hobi looks back in your direction and then laughs uncomfortably at Yoongi’s comment. “I’m not!” His voice rose several octaves.
Yoongi blinks languidly at him. “You’re not going to make me do this, are you?” He deadpans.
Hobi scrunches his face up in confusion.
Yoongi takes a deep breath and realizes that he's about to give the classic rom-com speech of encouragement as the trusted friend. "Why don't you just go up and talk to her?”
Hobi licked his lips and clicked his teeth. “It’s not that simple, hyung.”
"Not that simple?" he repeats. "For years, I've heard you say, 'All I need is a few moments with her.' Now she's right here, and you're hiding."
Before Hobi can answer, Taehyung strolls over to pick up the shots from the bar. He returns Taehyung's gratitude with a smile before walking away.
Once he is out of earshot, Hobi turns his attention back to Yoongi. "I don't know if I can, hyung."
"Of course, you can! You've practiced this speech for years!" Yoongi scolds Hobi.
Hobi wonders if he's whined to Yoongi too much about you. He's spent years regretting leaving and giving Sam the opening to win you over. He's tried, but failed, to move on. He releases a sharp breath, waving Yoongi off.
"I mean, even if I told her everything, it's not like it would change anything," he says, tearing his gaze away from you as he busies himself wiping already-clean glasses.
"Yeah, but at least you'd get it all out there," Yoongi shoots back. "And who knows? Maybe she has a lot to say to you, too."
Hobi has always wondered if you found closure all these years because he certainly hasn't. On the rare occasions that he feels lonely, he and Dara will meet up after-hours. She kept his bed warm some nights, but when the sheets cooled down in the morning, it was another reminder that she wasn’t you.
"I wouldn't even know where to start," he mutters.
Yoongi shrugs his shoulders. "Can't help you there. But while you think about that, I can at least get you started." He grabs the bottle of tequila from Hobi and retrieves two more shot glasses, pouring the liquor.
"Hyung, come on, we're working here," Hobi protests.
Yoongi snorts. "I'm working, whereas you own the place. There's a slight distinction there."
“When you put it that way,” Hobi arches an eyebrow and asks him pointedly, "Should you be drinking?"
Yoongi doesn't take his question seriously. "I drink regardless. Now, you, on the other hand," he slides a shot of tequila toward Hobi, "...should be drinking."
Hobi hesitates for a moment, then decides to pick up his glass. As he does so, Yoongi raises his own and says, "Geonbae."
"Geonbae," Hobi responds as they clink their glasses together. The warmth of the alcohol spreads throughout his body, relaxing him. Nervously, he looks over at you.
"I can't believe you talked me into this," Hobi says, shaking his head.
Yoongi grins at him. "You'll thank me later.”

Life feels stale over the next few days that you don’t see San. Only occasionally does it brighten when he texts you something stupid like a meme or a guess of one of your kinks. But what really lifts your mood is when he randomly checked in on you, asking how you were. It was only once, but it still made your heart flutter.
The two of you never really texted each other before the engagement. You weren’t close in any way, shape, or form. This new territory feels comfortable yet risky. If Mina found out… you don’t even know how she would react, and a part of you doesn’t really want to know. Additionally, you don’t know if San would stop if she did. You enjoy this new side of him. When he’s not hitting on you, he’s funny, kind, and caring, things you never would have described him as.
Most importantly, since your midnight excursion, San and Mingi have made up with San being reinstated as the best man. You don’t bother him about it because Mina has grilled him enough, using it as leverage when she wants him to do something. That is probably why you find Mingi and San waiting with Mina and Yoojung outside this craft store on the morning of the bachelor and bachelorette parties. The corners of San’s lips curve up when he sees you walking to the entrance.
Unfortunately, this is the only time Yoojung can assist in shopping for decoration supplies. Mina wants the wedding party to be more involved in the decisions therefore she sends you, San, and Yoojung to pick out vases for the centerpieces. You don’t know how much San will be of help, but Yoojung has a keen eye for decorating.
When Mina and Yoojung were getting ready to leave for college, Mina basically had Yoojung pick out everything for her dorm room. It did turn out cute and cozy, kind of like an old Tumblr aesthetic that you remember fondly from high school. Then Yoojung ended up getting her degree in interior design, therefore a lot of faith is placed in Yoojung.
“Hang on. I want to look at these real quick,” Yoojung says, stopping for small gold decorative bowls, “These would match some stuff in my living room.”
San distracts himself with the items on the opposite shelves, picking up random vases and bowls.
“Aren’t there mint accents in some of the wedding decorations?” He asks you as he sets a vase back down.
Your eyes stray to the decoration he just held, and you point out, “No, but that’s teal, not mint.”
“It’s definitely mint,” he argues back.
“Mint is lighter than that.”
“No, it’s not.”
“San, the bottom layer of your hair is teal, and it almost matches that vase,” you say, gesturing to his head.
“My hair is blue. That’s mint.”
“Why are you arguing with me over this? This is irrelevant. Mina doesn’t even want ceramic vases.”
As you bicker with him, his arm swings back, accidentally grazing Yoojung’s butt. It makes her jolt and turn around. He sputters out apologies when their eyes meet.
“Buy me dinner first,” she laughs it off.
Hearing her nonchalance, the blush on his cheeks fades, and you watch him switch on his charm. He leans against the shelf in front of her with a small yet cocky grin.
“Where you wanna go?
Yoojung is momentarily speechless before laughing even harder, “That was too smooth.”
As she takes a few bowls from the shelf, San glances at you with a satisfied smirk that you want to rip off his face.
“It’s teal,” you finish your quarrel and continue down the aisle to the clear glass vases.
Yoojung quietly corroborates what you said to San while they trail behind, and he just sighs defeatedly.
You browse through the many glass vases trying to find the perfect size. After finishing Mina’s bouquet, Mina gave you a rough idea of how big the bridesmaids’ would be. To save a little bit of money, the bridesmaids’ bouquets will be used as centerpieces for the reception tables reserved for the bridesmaids, groomsmen, and family. The rest of the tables will have slightly smaller versions, which means the vases need to accommodate the different sizes while still looking like a matching set.
The air is wordless until Yoojung finds tall, subtly-detailed clear vases in varying sizes that would look nice with sheer, blush ribbon tied around the neck. The bouquets of beige carnations, pale coral quince, chocolate cosmos, and silver brunia berries would stand out beautifully in the vases full of glass shard rocks and small string lights.
“What do you think?” Yoojung glances back at San, who is standing behind you with his arms crossed.
He shrugs his shoulders, “I don’t know anything about decorating, so I guess those are good.”
“Cool, I’ll take that as an agreement. Now help us carry these.” She replies and strategically places the five larger vases in San’s arms before the two of you split the nine smaller vases to carry with you taking the extra one, “Be very careful. Mina is on edge today, and I’m not mentally prepared for her to blow up on us.”
The three of you begin cautiously walking toward the flower section where Mina and Mingi should be.
Yoojung decides to strike up a conversation with San on the slow walk, “Do you know a girl named Gahyeon?”
The name seems to ring a bell in his brain as his eyes slightly widen.
“Why?” He counters.
“She’s my friend. I showed her a picture of all of us from the engagement party, and she recognized you.”
He sighs, clearly remembering her, “What’s my Yelp rating?”
“Based on her response from seeing you, it must be pretty high.”
Yoojung walks ahead of you as San peers over at you with a smirk. His ego, at this point, is bigger than this fucking city. Of course, he has hooked up with her, and of course, it was good. You fight the urge to roll your eyes.
“I take reservations, and only for you am I free at any time,” he winks.
“Don’t get a big head over it, though. Gahyeon’s easy to entertain,” Yoojung says over her shoulder, and you can’t help but guffaw. Still, that is rather tamed compared to the maniacal laughter you want to let out. Finally, someone else is here to knock him down a few pegs.
But, unluckily for you, your laugh was enough movement for one of the vases to slide lower against your body. Karma is most certainly a bitch.
“San, one is slipping,” you inform him in panic.
“Hang on,” he says cueing you to stop in your tracks, but before he can do anything to help, the vase falls out of your arms and shatters on the linoleum floor. His eyes catch yours tearing up. You are about to be crucified.
Mina is summoned from the aisle Yoojung turned on, voice underlined with annoyance, “What happened?”
“I tried to carry too many,” San falsely admits.
Without another word, Mina scolds him for it, and he just takes it. Yoojung creeps up behind her with the basket full of flowers, ribbons, and fabrics, and her brows furrow noticing which vase was dropped but doesn’t say anything. You place the surviving vases in the basket.
Within moments of the drop, an employee approaches with a broom and dustpan and immediately starts sweeping the glass up. San apologizes to them repeatedly and promises to pay for the vase. When you get a chance alone, you will insist that you pay. You feel bad that it happened because you laughed at his expense.
Once the scene is cleared, Mina guides you across the store to another aisle for the next things to grab, which are tape, glue, and florist wire. San breaks away from the group to retrieve a replacement vase. It doesn’t take long to find the supplies, and that marks the end of the shopping adventure. The other girls and you double-check that you got all the materials you came here for. As Mina counts the flowers, she realizes there aren’t enough in the basket.
“We grabbed all of the cream carnations that were out. Do you think they would have more in the back?”
“That might be all of them. There would have been more out, right?” Yoojung shrugs.
Mina, unsatisfied by Yoojung’s response, whips out her phone and goes to the store’s website. In the midst of the frenzy, San returns with a vase.
“It says online that they have ten in stock, and we have nine. Can you and San go check that aisle again, in case it was misplaced? I’m going to ask an employee to check in the back,” Mina directs to you.
You nod and make sure San follows you to the back of the store again.
“We’ll be over in the ribbons section. I forgot something!” Mina calls after the two of you.
Once out of sight, you glance over at San.
“You didn’t have to do that, you know,” you say softly, and he knows what you’re referring to.
“It’s okay. I’m used to her yelling at me.”
“Why did you take the blame?”
“I didn’t want her to be mad at you.”
You’re momentarily speechless before mumbling, “Thank you.”
The flower aisle is organized chaos. While the mess is contained to the shelves, flowers are misplaced everywhere. For a few seconds, it’s silent, allowing you to focus on the task at hand. Until you hear a couple on the next aisle talking, clearly in their own little world.
“Try it. It’s just strawberry,” the girl says.
“I don’t like smoothies,” the guy resists.
“Just taste it. It’s really good.”
“I’d rather taste it off your lips.”
It goes quiet before you hear the light smacking of spit, and you cringe. They’re in the middle of a store; have some decency. Maybe you’re just jealous you aren’t getting tongued down in a crafts store.
“That could be us, but you playin’.”
“If you so much as think about touching me, I’ll kill you,” you warn.
“You’re not killing me right now.”
The subtleness of his flirtation sends the warmth in your cheeks down to your core. The insane side of you wants to ask how he thinks about touching you. Is it playful? Casual? Intimate? Sexual? It takes several internal shouts to get your mind back on track because he could just be kidding.
You scoff and continue your search. Yet digging deeper into the giant mess of flowery shelves doesn’t distract you from falling into thoughts of San and all the ways you want him to touch you. But at least you’re being productive whilst doing so.
“Why are you just standing there? What the fuck are you doing?” You snap when you notice him leaning against the opposite shelves out of the corner of your eye.
A smirk tugs at his lips before he replies, “Respectfully checking you out.”
“‘Respectfully’ my ass.”
“That’s exactly where I was looking.”
“Help me find the flowers,” you deadpan.
“Do you think of me?” He lowly asks with that stupid smirk still on his face, and you know exactly what he’s hinting at. The absolute cocky way he asks makes you want to throat-punch him. There are far more important things to be pondering right now… even though your mind is also stuck in that same gutter. You’re not about to out yourself for allowing him to live rent-free in your head.
“Why would I?” You fire back.
“I bet you do,” he says sounding so sure of himself and resumes looking through more of the flowers, “Especially when you use that toy of yours. I don’t know how you haven’t jumped my bones yet.”
You can’t tell if this is confidence, arrogance, or just a joke.
“You might find this hard to believe, but some people have self-control.”
“Ah, so you want to.”
Your face feels like it’s on fire. You should really pay attention to how you word things.
“That’s not- I’m seconds away from stomping you out.”
“Step on me, mommy.”
As much as you want to be serious and chastise him for being so far in the gutter, his quick remark makes you crack up.
“Stop being dumb and help me.”
A smile spreads across his face seeing you laugh.
“You’re so serious today. It’s supposed to be a fun day.”
“I just want everything to go right today. I’ve already fucked up. We need to find those flowers,” you caution.
“You do know they restock things, right?”
“I know how retail works. It’s just easier if they have everything right now.”
“Not everything has to go perfectly,” he assures you as he resumes searching shelves a few feet away from you, “I can come back up here another day if I have to.”
“But that’s just inconvenient.”
“That’s life.”
You briefly glance at him diligently digging through the bunches of flowers and leaves. The profound things he has been saying to you have you questioning who he is as a person. Though these things vary from short, vague sentences to slice-of-life stories, he hints that there is an obviously hidden side of himself. Have you been totally wrong about him this whole time? These revelations have been preceded by his insufferable flirting. Does anyone else know about-
“I want you until the last flower dies,” San interrupts your thoughts, creeping a stem into your peripheral vision. When you finally look at the flowers, you gasp,
“Where did you find that?”
As you are caught up in the discovery, he frowns and hands over the artificial carnations without a fight.
“Did you even hear what I said?” He grumbles.
“Yes, and it was a terrible pickup line.”
“Does anything work on you?”
“Nope,” you answer as you head back down the aisle to meet up with everyone else. You don’t want to reveal the direct way to your heart just in case he’s just being an asshole. If he really wants to know, he will figure it out himself. If he finds out and is just being an asshole, at least it will have been a nuisance, and hopefully, he will realize it’s not worth it.
As you near your friends, Mina lights up at what you’re holding.
“Where did you find it?” She asks in surprise.
San’s voice follows behind you, “It was buried in some other flowers at the top of the shelves.”
“Thank god. Now, we can finally leave,” she sighs, pushing the basket to the registers.
The cashier starts ringing up the items, and Mingi watches the total get higher and higher.
“Do we really need the super realistic flowers?” He quietly asks his fiancée.
“Yeah, I don’t want our decorations looking fake and cheap. The other flowers are ugly,” Mina answers as if it should be obvious.
“I wouldn’t mind. These flowers are expensive.”
“It’s fine. My parents are paying for it.”
“I know. That’s why I feel bad.”
“They don’t care. They’ve been waiting to spoil me for my wedding.”
“I still don’t feel comfortable letting them spend this much.”
“Mingi, I promise it’s fine.”
Their argument spans the entirety of the checkout process. Discreetly, you apologize to the cashier as you take the paper sacks to leave. After putting all the crafts away in Mina’s car, everyone disburses to get ready for their respective parties.
A to-do list quickly forms in your head as you drive back to your apartment. You need to shower, do your hair and makeup, pick an outfit for the bachelorette party, put together an overnight bag, and grab anything else you might need for the party. The other day you went to an adult shop to snag a few phallic things for the celebration, such as penis straws, penis suckers, penis plates, penis napkins, a penis crown for the bride-to-be… Why the fuck did you get so many penis-themed things? Is this normal for a bachelorette party? At least you got sperm-shaped confetti to mix it up a bit.
As you shower, you think about what you would want to do for your own bachelorette party. You don’t really have the money to do a vacation-esque party, you’re not into partying or heavy drinking, and you would probably die of embarrassment if Mina showed up with these same party decorations. Maybe that’s just the overly grownup part of you taking over; you have spent so much time acting as a motherly figure to those around you. You find happiness in others having a good time, but maybe you just tell yourself that because that’s the only option you are given.
Once you’re bathed and have your hair and makeup done, you settle on a jumpsuit with a bit of a low neckline that you haven’t worn because there hasn’t been a good enough occasion. It shows off the mature side of you, which is fitting for how you feel about the night. You and Sejeong are basically babysitters for the young, wild ones. A comfy set of clothes is packed along with your other overnight essentials in a tote bag. On your way out, you snatch the paper bag of penis stuff.
Arriving just on time, you are welcomed into Mina’s apartment by the other bridesmaids. The bride-to-be is changing into her white off-the-shoulder bodycon dress. You can feel the excitement when she exits her bedroom with a huge smile as she reveals the garment for the first time. She is showered in compliments. Your eyes sting a bit from tears wanting to spring out. Mina isn’t the same little girl you knew growing up. You have to remind yourself that she is now a young woman doing adult things, no longer your baby sister playing pretend. Your heart just isn’t ready to accept that.
Before heading out the door, you all gather around Mina to take a mirror selfie to commemorate the night.
“To the vineyard!” Mina commands, ushering everyone out of her apartment to lock the door.
“Hey,” Yoojung pulls you aside while Mina is distracted with her keys, “When we get back before we start the movie, me and Kyungmi have a little surprise for Mina.”
“What is it?”
“You’ll just have to wait and see,” she sings.
A million things go through your mind, but you honestly can’t guess what those two are up to. You don’t dwell on it because the conversations in the car don’t allow you to hear yourself even think, and also, whatever they have planned shouldn’t be too terrible. Yoojung and Kyungmi know Mina well enough to surprise her with something she’ll enjoy.
At the vineyard just outside the city where the hilly landscape is flourishing with hundreds of rows of grapevines, you and your friends are sat on the terrace with a beautiful view. The weather is perfect, sunny and not too hot or cold. Sitting back, you watch the girls smile and giggle over the different wines. In mom mode, you casually take a few sips of each wine so as to not get toasty. The knowledge from the sommelier is not going to stick as the girls go off on random tangents stemming from words in his information. You will make sure to leave him a well-deserved tip after dealing with the mess that is Mina’s bridal party.
Along with the group’s favorite wine, a server leaves you a charcuterie board to nibble on after the tasting. The board looks super fancy with manchego, red wine merlot cheese, blueberry white cheddar, prosciutto di parma, pita crisps, rosemary crackers, cranberry walnut bread, raspberry jam, lemon dill mayo, fresh grapes, blueberries, and strawberries. It seems like a lot of food, but splitting it between the six of you, it’s just a snack. Once the server leaves, you start pulling things onto your small plates.
“I think the waiter likes you,” Yoojung teases Kyungmi, “He poured your glass first every time.”
“He looks like he has a small dick,” Kyungmi comments, taking you by surprise with her bold statement. You take a sip of water before you choke on a crisp.
“He has big dick energy, though,” Mina refutes.
“Big dick energy isn’t going to fill my hole.”
Between laughs, Sejeong reminds you all to be quieter so that he and other customers don’t hear. It still baffles you how blunt Kyungmi, the quiet friend, can be. You pour her a glass of water, signaling it’s time to sober up a bit, but it’s only in vain.
“Why are y’all trying to get me a man? Doesn’t Y/N need one?” Kyungmi suddenly deflects.
You argue right back, “Hey, don’t drag me into this. He’s hitting on you, not me.”
“I can just tell him you think he’s cute.”
“I’m too old for him.”
You don’t actually know how old he is, but you would be surprised if he was old enough to drink what he serves.
As the other girls loudly refute your statement, you barely make out Yujin’s “yeah, you kind of are.”
You really don’t want to spiral while you are supposed to be having fun. Those intrusive thoughts about your age and where you are in life have been pushed aside for the day, but Yujin brought them back out ruthlessly. No one else seems to have heard her since no one says anything. You slide down in your chair the slightest bit. San’s words from this morning are remembered; “It’s supposed to be a fun day.”
As much as you want to let it go, his age enters the chat. You’re not ancient compared to him, but you know people would think it’s weird that you like a guy younger than you. You wonder if he just acts like he’s interested in older women to tease you. When you’re with him, age never causes an issue. He makes you feel valid and lifts you up if you’re down. Even if he doesn’t fully mean what he says, you like how he makes you feel.
“Y’all are annoying. I need to pee,” Kyungmi announces to the table before standing up.
“Don’t break the seal,” Yujin advises.
“This dam is about to break!” Kyungmi hurries off to the bathroom with a busting Mina in tow.
The other girls resume talking, and your mind strays to something else. You rarely use Instagram, but you know a certain someone, who followed you shortly after telling him you don’t get on social media anymore, might be lurking around on there. Your finger hovers over selecting the photo your group took before leaving. The jumpsuit you decided on for the night makes you feel kind of sensuous, and documenting it in a photo provides the opportunity to make someone wish he was seeing it in person. You post the picture with just the wine glass emoji and tags of your friends’ usernames.
You watch a few slow notifications come up on your lock screen; a like and comment from Seonghwa that says “so pretty ☺️,” random likes from former classmates, and a comment from a relative you haven’t talked to in a while. None of them are who you’re waiting for. Sejeong sweeps you up in a conversation about the concurrent bachelor party, and your phone falls face down in your lap.
“Where do you think the guys are going?”
“Knowing the best man, a strip club,” Yujin answers.
“Yeah, probably,” Yoojung concurs, “But I feel like Mina wouldn’t let that happen. She even told us, ‘no strippers.’”
“I don’t know how they would have gotten Seonghwa to agree to go. I can picture him sitting there not knowing where to look with his hands awkwardly placed in his lap,” Sejeong says, painting a picture in your mind that makes you laugh. It’s true though; he’s quite the gentleman.
After the return of Kyungmi and Mina, your phone vibrates that tempting text message pattern, and you are quick to check your notifications. Like a gift from the universe, there’s an Instagram like and a text from San.

Your face heats up as he does exactly what you want him to. You haven’t drank that much wine, but you think maybe your brain is making this up in a drunken daze.

You note the dots of him typing as you exact revenge for his relentless teasing. Opportunities like this are far and few between. Time to have a little fun.
From: You So… you’ve jacked off to my pictures? 7:34 PM
The three dots disappear, and you grin to yourself for rendering him speechless. The mention of your name sucks you into the discussion about the rooming situations for the lavish hotel where they decided to have the wedding.
To make the reservations, the wedding party needs to figure out who is staying at the hotel and who is rooming together. Mina’s parents volunteered to pay for all of you to stay for the night before the wedding, which is when the rehearsal will take place, and the wedding night. Though her parents live modestly, they have a lot of money, and it’s crazy to you how much they are willing to spend on their only child for a short moment in her life.
For now, Kyungmi and Yujin will share a room, Sejeong and Yoojung will share one, and you and Mina will share another. Mina knows Mingi and San will room together and thinks the groomsmen Jongho and Seonghwa will as well. Mingi’s older brother is undecided, leaving Yunho to possibly room with the other two groomsmen. If his brother stays at the hotel, he will most likely get a room with his wife.
The tasting finally concludes, and the bill is split evenly for it. Upon hearing that your visit is for Mina’s bachelorette party, the manager on hand makes the charcuterie board and additional bottle of wine complimentary. Mina orders a bottle of champagne for her and Mingi’s wedding night and two wines from the tasting to have with your takeout pizza at her apartment. You get a bottle of the strawberry wine you really liked during the tasting since you didn’t have as much as everyone else. As the waiter hands back your cards, the bride-to-be and one of her bridesmaids are whispering on the other side of the table.
“Ask him. Ask him,” Mina elbows Kyungmi, who reluctantly gives in.
“Do you have a business card for the vineyard?” She asks the server, looking up at him through her lashes and raising her eyebrows suggestively.
He grins handsomely and pulls out a card and pen before quickly jotting something down and handing it over.
“You have so much power. What the fuck,” Yoojung says in awe when he walks away.
“Alcohol, my dude.” Kyungmi finger-guns.
Grabbing all your things, you head to the grand entrance of the vineyard to leave. Yujin’s comment is still lingering in your mind, and it’s slowly starting to piss you off again. You really want to say something, but you don’t like confrontation. Like, what would you even say? She specializes in snide remarks, credit to her mother. She could probably destroy you in less than five words.
In the parking lot, Sejeong stops you from going towards the passenger side of her car and asks, “Can you drive? I’m still kind of feeling the wine.”
The pressure to not wreck your own car is a lot, but the pressure to not wreck someone else’s car? Even worse. As long as it isn’t that person crashing because of alcohol, you will gladly take on that pressure. Throughout the tasting, you only had small sips of wine and drank mostly water so that you and Sejeong would be the sober ones to take care of the others. It’s best she doesn’t drive if she doesn’t think it’s safe.
“Yeah,” you answer, taking her keys.
As you drive back into town, the girls become talkative again. The rowdy ones in the back heckle Kyungmi to text that server while Sejeong orders pizzas for pickup.
“Play WAP to hype Kyungmi up!” Yujin shouts from the backseat.
“We are not blaring WAP in this car,” you stand your ground.
“Play Bad Girls by M.I.A.” Yoojung suggests.
Mina quickly cuts in, “Bad Girls? The baddest thing you’ve done is accidentally steal a pen from a store after signing a receipt.”
“Guys, be quiet! They can’t hear me,” Sejeong yells over their argument, hand covering the phone’s microphone.
“I need to pee!” Kyungmi whines.
“You can go in with Sejeong at the pizza place,” you assure her.
A headache is starting to form across your forehead. You wish you were less sober so you wouldn’t have to worry about everyone right now. It feels like a mistake volunteering to be one of the designated drivers, but who else would be one? Luckily, they quiet down long enough for Sejeong to place your orders.
“We should take a picture to remember tonight,” Yoojung mumbles with a slight slur and nudges Sejeong with her phone to take it.
“Everyone, look up here,” Sejeong commands with a smile and holds the phone up. You momentarily take your eyes off the road once she counts down to take the picture.
“You should send it to the guys,” Kyungmi suggests.
“No, don’t bother them,” you say, knowing you probably don’t look that good in the photo. The overhead lighting in the car is shit, your makeup is probably starting to run down your face since you put it on several hours ago, and there’s a good chance you’re not even looking into the camera.
“Send it!” Kyungmi sings from the very back with Yujin clinging to her, giggling, “Show them how hot we are and how much fun we’re having!”
Mina and Yoojung snicker behind Yoojung’s phone, which is succeeded by all your phones going off.

“Look at these thirst traps,” Sejeong laughs, flashing you the image from the group chat.
Yunho sent a photo of the guys in his car on the way to wherever the bachelor party is. Your eyes instantly land on San, and oh, no… He looks hot in leather with his hair pushed back. Even more of your sanity is lost. But you must compose yourself and get your eyes back on the road.
The pizzeria isn’t much further, so by the time you park you only need to wait a few minutes until your pizzas are done. Kyungmi accompanies Sejeong inside, and through the storefront windows, you watch her aggressively penguin walk to the bathroom.
To be nice, you allow Mina to plug her phone into the stereo. The first thing she plays is a Kesha song. She rolls her window down just as the chorus is about to start and leans her head out belting out the lyrics, “I’m a mother fucking woman, baby, alright!”
Yoojung quickly follows suit, “Don’t need a man to be holdin’ me too tight!”
You whip around in your seat and reprimand them, “Roll it back up, now. You’re going to get us in trouble.”
The two of them grumble as they do as they are told. They have officially lost their radio privileges. You don’t want to be a buzzkill, but someone has to keep them in line. In silence for a few minutes, you wonder what’s taking them so long in the restaurant. Before you call Sejeong to ask, you notice a text from San.

“What are you smirking about up there?” Mina leans forward between the front seats to peep on your messages.
As a knee-jerk reaction, you press your phone against your chest, looking guilty as hell.
“Nothing.”
Before San responds, Sejeong and Kyungmi slip back into the car, and you resume the drive to Mina’s apartment without the kids in the backseats acting up again. Once inside, you and Sejeong whip out the penis party stuff. While everyone is distracted, Kyungmi disappears.
“Why are penises on everything?” Mina laughs, looking at the plates and napkins.
“It’s all that was in the bachelorette party section of one of those sex stores,” you inform her. Maybe you should have just gotten generic party stuff at a grocery store. The selection at grocery stores is probably just as small, but at least it wouldn’t look tacky.
When you’re ready to dig into the pizzas, Yoojung doesn’t allow you. The main living room lights go out and LED strips turn on.
“You better not have gotten me a stripper,” Mina warns, eyes shooting each girl of the bridal party.
Mina’s bedroom door cracks ajar, revealing only a sliver of darkness.
“We’ve gotten a few noise complaints about this apartment,” Kyungmi says before kicking the door completely open, drenching her sleazy police uniform in the neon light, “For not being loud enough!”
The other girls squeal as Yoojung starts the music. Kyungmi dances her way across the room to Mina, trying to suppress her grin to stay in character. You stand in the kitchen watching the dumpster fire from afar, not really wanting to be a part of it.
“Where is the bride’s crown?” Kyungmi summons Yoojung with the penis crown you brought.
Mina dies laughing while Kyungmi places it on her head and then spins around to shake her ass to the beat of the song. The pizza is completely forgotten, and the bridesmaids are engrossed in the striptease. And, rightfully so, because Kyungmi is actually pretty good at dancing. You wonder if she is just freestyling or if she and Yoojung came up with a routine. Either way, you’re impressed.
Kyungmi goes around to give a little love to the other girls. Before she reaches the other older bridesmaid, Sejeong produces a few bills from her purse, which she makes a show of slipping them into the waistband of the micro mini skirt of the police officer costume. This causes everyone to break down in laughing tears. Kyungmi can’t even finish dancing to the song and surrenders in Sejeong’s lap.
When the regular lights are turned back on, the pizza is finally torn apart onto separate plates as more wine is poured to keep the party going
“Alright, eat your pizza so we can watch the movie,” Sejeong reins you all back in from the chaos.
Kyungmi asks with her mouth full, “Why can’t we eat while we watch it?”
“Because I don’t trust y’all to eat in the dark,” Mina answers.
“Kyungmi, why don’t you go change?” Yujin eyes the girl who just sat next to her on the couch and whose skirt doesn’t cover her cheeks on the cushions.
“I’ve got nothing to hide,” Kyungmi quips with a smug expression on her face.
That reminds you of someone…
As the atmosphere winds down, you glance at your phone and notice a text from that certain someone. You wish you hadn’t read it as soon as you open it. Your eyes roll out of annoyance because San is really just trying to piss you off.

Though you have never been to a strip club, it feels kind of early for the fun to start. Additionally, no one has really confirmed where the guys went for the bachelor party. You don’t think Mina would allow them to go to a strip club, and if it was suggested, she definitely would have complained to you about it.

“Hey, what are the guys doing for the bachelor party?”
“They went to some adult laser tag bar place,” Mina says, trying to think of the name of the bar.
“They went to play drunk laser tag? That doesn’t sound safe,” Sejeong comments.
“I know. Mingi isn’t the most coordinated, so I told him if he comes back with a black eye, he’ll be in trouble.”
The rest of the conversation goes on in the background as you call San out on his bullshit.

You don’t know about the stripping part, but you are definitely imagining grinding on him, legs straddling his lap. His hands would slide up your thighs to your hips and guide your movements as you impatiently find the friction you so desperately want. He would tilt his head back, his face twisting in pleasure. Your nails would dig into his shoulders where you balance yourself. He would swear under his breath and praise you for how well you’re doing. His fingers would thread through your hair and-
“Y/N?”
You hum in response as you fall hard back down to earth from your wet daydream.
“You wanna change clothes before we start the movie?” Sejeong asks as she picks up empty plates.
“Oh, yeah,” you mumble and head to the bathroom with the bag you packed.
Once in comfy clothes, you claim the armchair in Mina’s living room, too afraid of someone accidentally catching a rogue text from San. At this point, there is no telling what he will send you, especially since he is currently high on flustering you. You wouldn’t mind those types of messages right now. There is some alcohol in your system from the wine you just had, and San has planted a seed of sin in your mind. A bit of flirtatious texting isn’t going to cause any serious damage, right?
That is your mindset until you notice a sobering text from a little while ago.

The movie Bridesmaids starts in the background, and you try to pull your attention to the television. Mina plops down between Yoojung and Sejeong, snuggling in under a blanket. Not even 60 seconds later, your phone goes off again.
From: San🖕 Seonghwa just told me to stop texting you lmao 10:25 PM
What the hell, Seonghwa? As you think of a response, Mina calls you out.
“Phone away, Y/N.”
A subtle pout is on your lips while you place your phone face down on the armrest. Tonight is about Mina, not San, no matter how thirsty that man makes you. Have fun with your best friend while she is single and still has time to do this. It is girls’ night out, no boys allowed.
With the amount of times you have seen this film, you should be able to recite the script as easily as the alphabet. But it has been a few years since the last time you watched it. There are certain aspects you remember.
The main character Annie is seeing a man her friends don’t approve of, and she knows it’s not a relationship she actually wants. She’s jealous of her best friend because her friend is doing what she wants to be doing; Annie feels stuck not being able to fulfill the societal norms of adulthood. It all hits way too close to home.
“Y/N, I’m so glad you’re not like that,” Mina comments at one point.
Though you are not, you understand why Annie is acting that way. Jealousy can make you do crazy things. Her closest friendship is threatened, she can’t maintain a stable romantic relationship while her best friend is settling down, and her relationship with herself is clouded by the expectations others have of her. Her way of coping is the only problem… and that’s the only difference between you. You fear bothering, annoying, and angering anyone important to you, therefore you don’t lash out like Annie… or maybe you just haven’t reached your breaking point yet.
Just before the credits start rolling you finally look at your phone and note two text messages, one from one of your employees and one from San. Because it isn’t normal for your employee to text you this late, you tap on hers first.
From: Sammy🛍 Hey, I just got a call about a family emergency and have to go out of town. Can you pick up my shift tomorrow? 10:28 PM
A lamp in the corner is turned on as Mina and Sejeong stand to stretch. The other girls are fast asleep on the floor and loveseat couch. You grab a few empty cups and creep into the kitchen to put everything away.
“One of my assistant managers texted me during the movie and asked if I could cover her shift in the morning,” you quietly groan to your friends as you assure Sammy that you will, “I’m not mentally prepared for that.”
“Do you need to go home?” Mina questions with concern.
“Not yet. I’ll finish helping clean up,” you say as she looks down at her vibrating phone.
“Mingi wants me to meet him and San at his apartment as soon as possible,” Mina says after reading the text.
Your heart begins pounding in your chest at the mention of San’s name.
“Did he say why?” Sejeong asks, half-absorbed in rinsing out wine glasses.
“No, and he’s not replying, so he must be driving. I can’t drive since I just had wine.”
“I’ll take you,” you immediately offer, grabbing your overnight bag. You only had one glass when you returned, and that was before the movie started. Plus, you will take this chance to see San, maybe even smack him around a bit for trying to rile you up.
“Are you sure? Don’t you need to go to bed?” Mina looks guilty.
“I’ll be fine. I don’t want you driving even if you think you can make it over there.”
“I can take her,” Sejeong tries to relieve you of the burden.
“No, it’s fine. I’ll just drop her back off when we’re done and then go home.”
“Okay, I’ll stay here in case they wake up,” she says, following you two to the door.
As you head down to your car, you finally check San’s text from over an hour ago.
From: San🖕 Y/N? 10:33 PM
Fuck, he probably thinks you’re ignoring him now, and you don’t have time to respond as you need to hurry over to his apartment. Endless possibilities of what could be Mingi’s emergency run through your mind. The lack of response from him worries you, but you don’t bring that up for fear of panicking Mina. It could be something that isn’t an actual emergency.
As you roll up to Mingi and San’s apartment, Mina points out the pair walking to the building’s entrance. San looks like he’s holding his head which is fairly concerning considering where they have been all night. Mina and you get out quickly and rush to catch up.
“What happened?” You ask as soon as you see the bloody paper towels San is pressing to his brow bone.
“You want to tell them?” San looks to Mingi, who subtly shakes his head.
“I accidentally scared him, and he threw his laser gun at me.”
“This is exactly why I said this was a bad idea,” Mina immediately reprimands them, “Let’s get up to the apartment so that we can look at it.”
“Technically speaking, you said you didn’t want me getting hurt,” Mingi levels with his fiancee.
The look she gives him silences him the rest of the way up. Once inside, San turns around a dining room chair and sits, looking at you and Mina expectantly. Knowing Mina isn’t good with blood, you take charge.
“Do you have a first aid kit or something?” You look between the boys, and Mingi hurries to retrieve it from their bathroom.
Mina hovers behind you, simmering, “Why didn’t the bar help you?”
“They said they were out of bandages, and then they told us to go to a hospital,” San answers while making himself comfortable in the chair.
“Why didn’t you go to one?” You ask, confused and annoyed by the situation.
“I am not going to a hospital over a little cut. I’m not a baby.”
Your eyebrow shoots up at the absurdity coming out of his mouth.
“Maybe a kiss will make it better,” he still manages to hit on you.
You glare at him unimpressed and ask, “Really?”
“Just trying to lighten the mood,” he contends, “Or get you in the mood. Whatever works.”
“Shut up,” you say as you grab his wrist and pry away the tissues stuck to his injury to check the damage.
“Ow, that fucking hurt!” He shouts, pressing the tissues against the cut once again.
“Here. Give me your finger. I’ll give you something else to cry about,” she quips with her hand out and eyes on fire, just as her fiancé comes back with a plastic box.
“Babe, it wasn’t his fault,” Mingi says with a sliver of panic in his voice.
“Now, his face is going to be fucked up for the wedding,” she yells.
“Yeah, it’s definitely going to leave a scar. The hair might not grow back for a while,” you reenter the conversation as you dig through the bandaids until you find the right one, “It might not be too noticeable by the wedding. San, move the paper towel.”
“Why is there so much blood?” Mina sounds frenzied looking at the tissues.
“He’s had alcohol,” you remind her while you disinfect his wound with a dab of a cotton ball doused with hydrogen peroxide. He winces and groans at the stinging sensation.
“I can’t watch. I might pass out,” she says as she goes to sit on their couch.
His eyebrow is split but not enough to need stitches, at least in your opinion. After peeling the backing off of the bandaid, you gently touch around the cut.
“I’m putting a butterfly bandage on it. I have to pinch the skin back together, so it might hurt,” you warn him, and before he can respond you squeeze it closed.
He hisses at the pain, trying not to jerk away, “Hurry up. Jesus Christ.”
His hands naturally hold onto your waist, his fingers digging into you, channeling his discomfort to its source. One side of the bandage is in place, and you attempt to align the skin accurately.
“I’ll take my sweet time.”
He groans in misery and annoyance, “Sadism.”
Your face feels like it’s burning. You can’t believe he is bringing up your stupid midnight conversation from several nights ago.
“Shut up.”
When you finally secure the bandaid, he opens his eye and blinks a few times.
“Does it look badass?”
“You look stupid,” Mina deadpans, quite obviously not over the fact she was right about someone getting hurt. She moves from the couch to look at your bandaging work now that the blood isn’t everywhere.
“He always looks like that though,” you joke as San defends himself.
“I didn’t even do it!”
“Be still,” you demand, placing a small square of gauze over the butterfly bandage and taping it down with surgical tape.
“At least I didn’t knock him out,” Mingi chuckles.
“You didn’t hit me hard enough for that.”
“I bet I could though.”
“Why are men like this?” Mina quietly comments to you as you step out of San’s personal space.
San folds his arms across his chest and lounges back in the chair. “No, but I could definitely knock you out.”
“That’s not fair. You’ve had practice.”
“Practice?” Mina echos.
“It was one time,” San downplays.
“What happened?” You ask, bewilderedly looking between the two boys.
Mingi is quick and proud to answer, “Some dude put his hand up one of our friends’ skirts. San confronted him and ended up decking him in the face.”
“That’s surprising,” you say with raised eyebrows and notice San’s face sour, “That you would hit someone.”
His expression softens at your addition. “That was a few years ago. It was a young and dumb decision.”
“It wasn’t dumb. Fuck that guy,” Mingi says, and Mina smacks his arm, telling him to watch his mouth.
As the couple begins arguing over who should stop swearing, you awkwardly start shuffling everything back into the kit, and San wordlessly helps.
But after a moment, he sighs, “I have a meeting in the morning, and of course, this happens.”
“I have work in the morning too.”
“You should stay the night in case I need a nurse.”
You glance at him after closing the little first aid box, “I’m not a nurse.”
“You could dress up as one, and I wouldn’t know the difference.”
“I’m not playing into your role-play kink.”
“I’ll mark that one off the list then.”
Your eyes roll back into your head when you realize what he’s joking about again, and you could almost die from exasperation. Then you realize something else.
“Wait, you have a meeting on a weekend?”
“Yeah, it’s an emergency meeting because someone messed up a report with a client.”
Before you can ask if it’s for that nursing home, Mingi suddenly slaps a hand on San’s shoulder and asks, “Did you keep that napkin the bartender wrote her number on?”
Your eyes dart to San. You want to interrogate him about what he did with her number in retaliation to how he acted when that pizzeria guy gave you his number. You want to be petty, take the napkin from him, and set it on fire in front of him. But you can’t do anything because Mina and Mingi don’t know about that night, that you hung out together, that San showed a protective, borderline-possessive side of himself. San notices the flames inside your eyes and grabs the tissues he once held against his eyebrow.
“I guess I can’t call her now,” he says, unraveling the dried bloody napkin, the inked number lost in the dark crimson red. The little smirk on his face is telling of how he feels seeing you physically snap into jealousy. Calling her was never in his plans.
Fuck this, you need sleep.
“As much fun as this has been, I need to go,” you announce before directing your attention to Mina, “Do you need me to take you home?”
“No, Mingi will,” she says, and he confusedly complains.
“I can send you a medical nude in the morning, so you can see how it’s doing,” San offers with a grin.
“What the hell?” Mina questions with a hint of disbelief, “Why would you be nude?”
“I’d take the bandage off,” he quips.
Mina steps towards him, but you hold her back with your arm.
“Get smart with me again, and I’ll break your nose,” she warns.
“We’ll laugh about this one day,” Mingi sighs hopefully. San glares at him while Mina starts in about how she will never laugh about their incident and that it isn’t funny because San’s face will look busted for the wedding.
You take that as your cue to leave. The day has been a rollercoaster of emotions, and you are absolutely exhausted. When your head finally hits your pillow, you are out. Getting up the next morning for work is agonizing. You plan to spend your time in your small office, so you don’t have to deal with people. You have had enough human interactions within the last 24 hours.
But before you leave home, your phone lights up with a call from San. What could he possibly want right now?
“Hey,” he says as soon as you answer, “It kept bleeding through the gauze, so we went to the ER last night. They had to put in a stitch or two.”
Your heartbeat picks up a bit. You feel bad for being annoyed by his call, even though he has no idea that you were.
“Did they give you anything for the pain?” You ask, making sure to speak in a soft voice.
“They just told me to take over-the-counter pain meds every six hours if needed.”
“Is it feeling any better?”
“It’s a lot sorer now that the bruising is showing up. I can’t show any emotion without being in pain.”
A small chuckle huffs out your nose before concealing your amusement. “Do you need me to bring you anything?”
There’s a short pause before he mumbles, “No.”
Did you just make him shy?
He clears his throat and continues, “Did you tell Seonghwa to tell me to stop texting you last night?”
Oh, fuck. You have hoped to avoid this confrontation.
“No? He asked me why I was texting you and then said he would tell you to stop. I told him he didn’t have to do that.”
“Oh.” The word is barely audible.
“Why?”
“You never responded after I told you he did that.”
“I got yelled at for using my phone during the movie, and right after the movie, we came over. I didn’t get the chance to respond.”
“Oh.” This time the word is louder, more confident.
You pull away from your phone to check the time. You can spare a few more minutes.
“Are you sure you don’t want me to bring you anything? I have time before I go to work.”
“No, I’m fine. Thank you, though.”
A feminine voice speaks his name in the background, and your heart falls into the pit of your stomach. He must have a girl over since he is insistent that you not stop by. He must have called you with a girl in his bed just to taunt you. Did he end up calling that bartender? He really knows how to make you not stand him. Anger fills your chest, and you try to keep it from overflowing out of your mouth.
“You seem busy. I’ll let you go,” you say tersely.
“No, it’s fine. I’m on a break.”
Oh, so it’s a quicky?
“I have work. Bye,” you mumble before ending the call.
This crush is getting out of hand. You are constantly in need of a reminder.
He’s not yours.
He is not yours.
He. Is. Not. Yours.
HE. IS. NOT. YOURS.
Those words repeat in your mind like a mantra, plaguing your time at work. When your brain strays to that phone call and the woman’s voice, you mentally slap yourself. But, god, do you feel stupid, liking a man who will never like you in the same way.
After work, you order your favorite takeout to comfort yourself, and once you have consumed it, you still feel that little emptiness that San will never fill. In the shower, you can’t stop thinking about that woman and how naive you are. Moving your pity party to your bedroom, you feel your phone vibrate in your hand.

Suddenly, you panic that he might be at your door. You are currently naked in a towel, and your apartment isn’t the cleanest right now. It would be embarrassing for him to walk in and think “You live like this?”
From: You You’re not here again, are you? 9:27 PM
Your screen lights up with a video call from San. That’s better than him being physically here, but you still feel a little alarmed. Now, you just have to angle your camera away from the 500 empty cups on your nightstand and the pile of clothes you have been too lazy to put away…
“Why are you video-calling me?” You ask the moment his face appears after accepting the call.
“I thought you might want to see the stitches,” he says, bringing the camera closer for a better view.
“Oh, shit. He got you pretty good.”
The cut looks bigger than you remember, or maybe that’s because part of his eyebrow was shaved off at the hospital.
“Someone at work asked me what happened, and I told him he should see the other guy,” he jokes as he studies the injury on his screen.
“Really?” You shoot him a look through the camera.
He shrugs, “They don’t need to know the real story.”
“Hang on. I’m changing into my pajamas.” You lay your phone on your sheets and head to your dresser to quickly slip on your flannel button-down and pants.
You can hear San quickly exhale through his nose before he says suggestively with what you know is a smirk, “Since this conversation is show and tell…”
“… I’m hanging up now,” you announce as you pick up your phone again, fully clothed. You settle down in bed, sitting up against the headboard.
“I’m kidding,” he laughs, “How was the girls’ party?”
“It was good. The wine tasting was nice. But dealing with all of them drunk is like herding cats.”
He chuckles, “Sweet little Mina was a handful?”
“Her and Kyungmi were absolute chaos. The amount of times I heard ‘shark coochie’ yesterday was more than my entire life up until yesterday.”
“Shark coochie?”
“We had a charcuterie board at the vineyard.”
You watch it register in his head before he cracks up, a hand coming up to cover his cute grin.
“Anyways… How was the guys’ party before you got beat up?”
“It was fun. There was another group of guys at the bar, and they wanted to play against us. We went a couple of rounds before we got more drinks. Then during that last game, I came around a corner and scared the shit out of Mingi.”
“You were warned it was a bad idea. Was it worth that?”
“Absolutely,” he stands by his decision, “I just hate that my eyebrow took all damn night. I was so tired this morning when I went to the office.”
Your heart falls into the pit of your stomach.
“You didn’t have the meeting online?”
He shakes his head, “No, but it wasn’t a super long meeting, so I came back home and slept for a while.”
That woman must have been a coworker. God, you are such an idiot. Even still, he is not yours. Sadly, your brain recalls his words, “Can’t let them get attached.” You really need to chill before he thinks you are getting attached.
Not wanting to waste any more time on that, you change the topic, “I just remembered something. How much was that vase I broke?”
“Why?”
“I want to pay you back.”
“Don’t worry about it.”
“I’ll find out how much it was and leave that money somewhere in your apartment so that you find it later thinking you left it there.”
“You will never leave my sight in my apartment again.”
“You’re not going to watch me use the toilet,” you contend.
“Fine, but if I find money in the bathroom, I’ll know it was you and give it back.”
“I won’t accept it.”
“Then I’ll hide it somewhere in your apartment.”
Your hand drops to your bed, his view now the ceiling, as you groan, “You’re so annoying!”
His adorable little giggles fill your room and warm your heart.
Why can’t he be yours?

Kiss Me, Hyung- Yoojung of OnlyOneOf x male reader
[I don't own these images credits to the original owners]
SFW
(gets *slighty* spicy at the end though)
Synopsis: There is some romantic tension between the reader and Yoojung but Yoojung's best friend keeps getting in the way. Reader decides he's had enough.
Contains: Some angst, fluff and a little suggestiveness (Is that a word?) at the end.
[Word count: 4.7k]
He hadn't had many close friends at university so, after the only two friends he had on campus both moved overseas to study elsewhere, he was left alone.
He didn't mind it at first. It meant he had more time to himself and work since he didn't need to spend so much of his time fooling around and talking but he eventually grew to feel rather lonely, missing his friends' laughter and conversation and hating the silence that had replaced it.
It was for this reason that when a few weeks into classes a girl asked him to sit with her and her friend at lunch that he'd gladly jumped to accept the offer.
Her name was Yeseul and she was studying food sciences. She was short, talkative and adorable in every sense of the word. Her friend that came with the package, however, was what sealed the deal with him becoming part of a new friend circle.
His name was Yoojung. He was studying music and he was breathtaking, to say the least. His hair was blond and fell past his chin in soft, loose curls. He had the most beautiful brown eyes and the brightest smile.
He was quiet for the most part at first, a little shy around him but once he had adjusted to the new addition to his friend group, his true personality was revealed. He was talkative, had the greatest comebacks and was very invested in campus gossip. Y/n wouldn't be surprised if it was Yoojung secretly running the campus gossip blog page. Yoojung also laughed a lot and that was something that Y/n really liked about him. Needless to say, the attraction had been instant. Sometimes it felt like it was mutual but Yoojung had never spoken about it and so neither did Y/n.
Two months after the formation of this new triog, Yeseul had boldly asked Y/n out on a date. She had asked early in the morning before class and Yoojung had been there. Y/N had hesitated before responding to her question. His gaze had shifted to Yoojung in an attempt to gauge his reaction but Yoojung had said nothing and had averted his gaze, seemingly suddenly finding the paving beneath them very interesting. With the lack of response or reaction from Yoojung, he had simply shrugged and said "Why not?"
They had gone bowling and admittedly the date went well. They had a lot of fun together even though they both sucked really badly at bowling. But that was all it was to Y/n; some fun with a friend. It wasn't anything serious. At least not to him. Yeseul was a nice girl but he just didn't see her in any romantic light.
He had known that Yeseul had wanted to kiss him when he dropped her off at her home afterwards but he had avoided it at smoothly as he could. It wouldn't be fair on her. Especially when all he could think about was kissing her best friend.
He felt like a horrible person because of that but try as he might he couldn't help the way his thoughts and eyes would always stray to Yoojung.
Especially now as he looked over at where Yoojung was sitting down across from him next to Yeseul on the grass.
Yeseul had decided they get together in the park when their schedules were clear since she had been meaning to try out a new dessert recipe and wanted to share them with her friends.
Yoojung looked great. He was dressed casually and his hair was up in a bun, a few strands falling free and framing his face. As if in some cheesy rom-com, the light that shone down from between the leaves of the trees illuminated his face beautifully.
He saw how Yoojung squinted as the sun rays hit him in the eyes and couldn't help the laugh that left him. Both Yoojung and Yeseul looked over at him questioningly.
"Enjoying the sun?" He teased the blond.
Yoojung huffed out a laugh and rolled his eyes, "Totally."
"I'm going to the restroom quick," Yeseul piped up, standing and brushing her skirt off.
The boys nodded in acknowledgement and watched as she began what would probably be a five-minute walk to the public restroom.
Yoojung had gone right back to eating. He was making happy sounds every now and then, clearly enjoying the desserts. He didn't speak, solely focused on the flavours. He was so focused that he didn't even register the chocolate smear at the corner of his mouth.
Against his better judgement and in a horribly cliché move, Y/n reached across the space between them and gently swiped his thumb over the corner of Yoojung's mouth, collecting the stray chocolate.
He shamelessly maintained eye contact with Yoojung as he brought his thumb to his mouth and licked the chocolate from it. He carefully watched Yoojung for a reaction and was pleased to see the way Yoojung gulped. He seemed flustered by the sight.
Y/n had felt a growing tension between them as time passed but he hadn't had a chance to confirm it properly. He wanted to be sure of the way Yoojung felt about him but didn't really know how to go about it and, to be honest, he was nervous. He had a perfectly good relationship with him as things stood and he didn't want to risk losing a friend.
He suddenly remembered that he had a work event that weekend and needed a date. Perhaps that would be a good start?
"Yoojung?" He spoke up, intending to try to ask him if he maybe wanted to go with him.
"Yeah?" The blond boy looked at him expectantly.
"I was wondering if-"
"What did I miss?" Yeseul interrupted, joining them again.
Yoojung cleared his throat borderline awkwardly and broke eye contact with Y/n and Y/n tried to hide his scowl.
"Nothing," He replied with a smile that didn't quite reach his eyes. How did she always manage to interrupt things or push herself into them?
She just gave him a funny look and nodded.
"Oh!" She placed another treat on his paper plate, "I heard you need a date for an event this weekend."
Y/n frowned, "How did you know that?"
She smiled, "Wookjin told me."
Wookjin was their mutual friend and his work colleague. He cursed him in his head.
Yeseul gave him another smile, "I can go with you if you'd like?"
He took a quick glance at Yoojung who had hung his head a little before looking at her again, "Oh, actually, I planning to ask-"
"Good, that's settled then. What should I wear?"
She hadn't let him finish his sentence. It didn't even surprise him anymore.
He shrugged in defeat, "Anything semi-formal."
She frowned at him, "Are you alright?"
He nodded, "Yeah I'm fine. Just remembered I need to go do something."
He got up and gathered his things.
"Thank you for the food and," He looked over at Yoojung, "The company."
Yoojung just gave him a weak smile in return.
"Oh, okay but-" Yeseul started but he was already gone.
♡♡♡
The day of his work event had finally arrived and to be honest, he wasn't exactly thrilled.
He didn't really enjoy his current job. It was a boring desk job that he'd have to endure until after he had his degree and could finally start his desired career path. His co-workers and boss were nice enough but most of them only really liked to talk numbers and sales and he felt he already did enough of that on work days.
So yes, the night was already off to a bad start before it had even begun. He had hoped to have a handsomely dressed Yoojung by his side to brighten things up with his stunning smile but he had to take Yeseul who had basically invited herself instead.
He really didn't have anything against her. She was friendly, funny sometimes and loyal- all the qualities he looked for in a friend. He kept trying to tell her this but she made it impossible. He had started to have a growing suspicion that she was well aware and doing it on purpose.
He had been pleasantly surprised when he gone to pick her up at her home. She looked good and it was a nice change of pace to see her dressed semi-formally instead of her usual trendy minimalistic look.
"Hi!" She greeted him with a bright smile and the scent of her flowery perfume hit him as she opened the door. He once more missed Yoojung as he thought of the way his musky cologne would contrast against her perfume.
"Hi. You look nice," he responded with a smile of his own. She chuckled and looked down at her outfit.
"Oh, this? It's nothing. Just something I threw together, really."
He could clearly see she did not just throw it together.
He gave her a tight smile, "Let's go. We don't want to be late."
"Oh, yes, of course."
♡♡♡
The event was going well. Everyone liked her pretty much instantly. Some of the men and even the one female receptionist even flirted with her before realising she had come with Y/n. They had asked him if she was his girlfriend and he had responded honestly with 'no'. He had felt kind of bad about the twinge of disappointment that flickered through Yeseul's eyes at his words. He wasn't lying though; they weren't an official couple and had only gone on one date. Well, two if you counted that evening.
The night progressed smoothly but as it did so he thought progressively more about Yoojung.
He wondered if Yoojung had caught on and realised that Y/n had been meaning to ask him instead. He wondered what he was up to. Was he still in his shop? Yoojung never really got a chance to actually work at the bookstore he had inherited from his mother since he was studying at the same time but he had a guy named Kyubin who ran the store for him when he was unable to.
Y/n had always been curious about the nature of their relationship. Anyone could tell that they were really good friends and could see that they were quite comfortable with one another. Yoojung had never mentioned a boyfriend or girlfriend nor had he said anything about him dating Kyubin either. Kyubin was a decent guy but Y/n really didn't like the idea of Yoojun dating him nor did he like the idea of Yoojung dating anyone else in general. You could call him selfish all you like, he supposed, but it was true.
He really needed to do something about this. He needed to come clean to both Yoojung and Yeseul.
♡♡♡
The drive to Yeseul's home afterwards had been silent for the most part. She had tried to make small talk with him here and there but he was stuck in his head and also horrible at small talk. After a while she had simply stopped trying.
When they arrived outside of her home he had opened the car door for her and walked her to her front door all the while wondering how to go about telling her how he felt. He wondered if perhaps the window to talk about this issue that evening had already passed but when she gave him a coy smile and invited him inside he knew he needed to say something.
"Yeseul-ah," he called out softly but firmly as he stayed put, not accepting her invitation.
She turned back to face him with a small frown, "What's wrong, oppa?"
She insisted on calling him that often despite being a year older than him and, to be frank, he hated it and it was not the term he wanted to hear- especially not from her.
Was he just being an asshole? He was trying not to be which was why he was standing there at that moment and trying to talk to her about this before he even so much as comsidered confessing to Yoojung.
"I'm not your boyfriend."
Horrible way to start he realised but he had never really been in this position before so he pretty much had no idea what he was doing. How do you let a girl down gently?
Her frown deepened and her smile faded entirely, "Yeah. At least, not yet, right?"
He could see a slightly hopeful look in the eyes and he tried to avoid groaning. She was annoyingly persistent.
"No."
"What do you mean 'no'?"
He took a breath, "I mean that you're a nice girl but I don't want to be your boyfriend. I just want to be your friend, Yeseul."
He felt bad as he saw his words register in her eyes.
"What do you mean by that? I thought you liked me?" Her bottom lip quivered.
"As a Friend, Yeseul. I'm sorry but... I like somebody else. I respect you and your feelings so I'm trying to do the right thing and be honest with you."
She stayed silent for a good long moment before she looked up at him again with a dejected gaze.
"It's Yoojung, isn't it?" She asked softly, the question pretty much rhetorical.
His heart jolted at the other boy's name.
"Yes."
He wanted to apologise as soon as he confirmed her suspicions but reminded himself that he wasn't doing anything wrong and that his own happiness mattered too.
Her jaw tensed and he saw her eyes shine with unshed tears.
He groaned internally. Oh god, please don't let her start crying. He never knew what to do when people were crying.
"I knew this was coming," She admitted and now it was his turn to frown.
"You did?"
"Yeah, I was just trying so hard to pretend otherwise. Gaslight myself I suppose."
Bingo. He had been correct.
"How did you know?" He inquired and she scoffed.
"Even a blind person could see your attraction to one another."
His heart skipped a beat.
"I- Do you really think he's attracted to me as well?"
She gave him an incredulous look, "Are you stupid? Of course he is. Have you not seen the way he looks at you? He talks about you even when you're not there, Y/n. It's been a little annoying, to be honest. He's my best friend- I know him well enough to know when he's falling in love."
Falling in love... Y/n was slightly stunned. He had a feeling that Yoojung liked him too but to have it basically confirmed like this just...
Why was she suddenly telling him all of this? And if she knew this all along why did she still push for herself to date Y/n instead? Assuming Yoojung trully was falling in love with him, wouldn't that be selfish of her? But who was he to judge he supposed.
"I'm sorry, Yeseul." He couldn't help but feel bad that she had to see the way he and Yoojung were attracted to each other while she herself had a crush on him. Hadn't Yoojung been in a similar position though?
She waved her hand dismissively at him but he could see the way her tears were threatening to fall, "Don't be sorry. You can't help who you are attracted to."
There was a few seconds of almost deafening silence before he spoke up.
"Will you be all right if I pursue him?"
She sighed, "Yeah, you're my friends so I want you guys to be happy."
"We're still friends right?" He tried to clarify. He had been honest in saying he wanted her as a friend still.
She paused before responding, her voice a little quieter, "Yes. Just give me a little time, okay? To get over you and to... adjust. I'll probably be a little off with you guys for a while but it'll pass eventually."
He nodded; that was understandable and he respected that. He owed her as much.
"Thank you," He offered her a small smile.
He felt a lot better after getting this off his chest despite the lingering feeling of guilt.
"Y/n?"
"Yeah?"
"Break my best friend's heart and I'll break your neck."
Typical best friend speech. He supposed he really did have her go-ahead.
"I won't," He promised.
"You better not."
He waved goodbye with a smile and she tried to return it. He didn't take her feeble smile to heart. She said she needed time after all.
On to the next and final task of the evening: confessing to Yoojung.
♡♡♡
He'd thought to leave his car at home and walk to Yoojung since Yoojung's home was only a few blocks down from his own but half way there the sky had cracked open and rain began to fall.
By the time he finally arrived at the bookstore that Yoojung both owned and lived above, it was pouring with rain.
There wasn't much of an awning over the entrance of the building so even while Y/n crowed under it, he could still feel water hitting his back.
It had to be nearly eleven p.m. by now and Y/n prayed that Yoojung was still up. He knocked hard on the front door of the bookstore and after a while of not getting a response, he pulled out his cell phone and dialled Yoojung's number.
It rang a few times and just as Y/n began to lose hope, Yoojung answered.
"Hello?" His voice was slightly husky and he sounded as if he'd just woken up.
Y/n's heart fluttered at the sound of his voice but he felt bad that he may have woken him up.
"Hey, I'm sorry, did I wake you?"
He heard a chuckle on the other end, "Honestly? Yeah, you did but it's alright, I hadn't been asleep that long. What's up?"
"I'm at the door, could you let me in? It's raining."
"Why are you- Yeah, sure, I'm coming. Just give me a minute."
"Okay." Y/n hung up and looked through the big glass window and into the bookstore expectantly. After a moment a light was flicked on and he saw his friend make his way down the staircase at the back.
"Hey, come in," Yoojung said after unlocking the door. Y/n gladly stepped into the warmth of the shop and out of the rain. Yoojung locked the door again after him and turned to look at him.
"Hey," He said with a small smile and Y/n couldn't help but return it.
"Hey," He responded and Yoojung smiled at him a little brighter before stepping forward to help Y/n take off his soaked suit jacket, only to discover that his white button-up below was absolutely drenched too. So drenched that Yoojung could see the outlines of Y/n's muscles through his shirt where it stuck to the front of him. He couldn't help the way he gulped and his cheeks flushed the slightest.
Y/n scratched the back of his neck, "Maybe leaving my car at my house and walking here wasn't the best idea."
Yoojung snapped his gaze back up to his and snorted, "Ya think?"
He laughed and Yoojung rolled his eyes.
He stepped out of his shoes and found that his socks were at least for the most part dry. Couldn't say the same for his pants.
This was not how he'd expected the night and his confession to go.
Yoonjung nodded his head in the direction of the stairs, "Come up, I'll give you something to change into."
Y/n nodded along and pretended that when Yoojung took his hand to lead him upstairs, his heart rate didn't pick up. It was a small action but a bit bold for the usually shy Yoojung.
Yoojung let him into his reasonably sized flat and disappeared down the short passage to his room, leaving Y/n standing cold, wet and awkwardly in the open-plan kitchen/living room.
A minute later Yoojung popped his head out of his bedroom doorway, "Sorry, I meant for you to follow me."
Y/n laughed and went to him.
Yoojung's room was tidy and quite cosy, everything in muted colours. He had been to Yoojung's home only once before but he hadn't left the living room last time and hadn't had a chance to have a good look around.
"Here," Yoojung handed him sweatpants and a t-shirt, along with a towel.
"You can dry off and change. I'll go make us some coffee."
By the time Y/n left the room, mostly dry and changed, the coffee was finished and Yoojung was leaning against the kitchen counter, nursing a warm mug in his hands, staring off at nothing in particular.
"Hey."
Yoojung jolted slightly upon hearing his voice suddenly and he turned his head to look at him.
He felt his heart skip a good few beats at the sight of Y/n in his clothes, the t-shirt he'd given him a little tight on him.
Y/n raised an eyebrow at him and Yoojung realised he'd been staring.
"Sorry, here's your coffee." Yoojung put his cup down to hold Y/n's cup out to him.
He stepped forward and accepted it, taking a sip. He was pleasantly surprised.
"This is pretty good. How'd you know how I take it? Lucky guess?"
"No. You mentioned how you liked your coffee once and I remembered it."
He didn't miss the way Yoojung's cheeks flushed and he decided that it was now or never.
"Yoojung," he called out and Yoojung looked at him questioningly.
"Yes, hyung?"
The sudden term had Y/n's stomach doing a flip.
"I- Earlier this week, when I was talking about needing a date to the event I'd actually... been meaning to ask you, not Yeseul."
He was trying to act nonchalant despite the way his heart rate had picked up and it was a battle.
Yoojung's eyes widened a little. That wasn't what he had been expecting him to say.
"Why exactly did you come to see me, hyung?" He said after a moment.
Y/n put his coffee mug down on the counter, "Yeseul is a nice girl. She really is and I know she wants to properly date me but I... I don't want that with her. I've tried to tell her but she never lets me finish what I'm saying."
"And what is it that you want, hyung?" Yoojung questioned, his voice soft.
He wondered if Yoojung was calling him hyung all of a sudden on purpose.
His eyes traced Yoojung's delicate features, his deep brown eyes, his soft, chin-length blond hair that Y/n absolutely adored and his eyes finally settled on Yoojung's pretty mouth.
He dragged his eyes back up to Yoojung's, "You."
Yoojung froze for a second before dropping his gaze. Y/n didn't miss the pink tint of his cheeks.
Y/n stepped closer to the other boy, "I couldn't stop thinking of you tonight. I wanted to see you all dressed up. I wanted to introduce you to my colleagues. I wanted to have drinks with you and see you laughing and having fun."
His heart was hammering away in his ribcage as he reached a hand out and tilted Yoojung's face up to look at him.
"I can't stop thinking about you. I need to know you feel the same, Yoojung."
Yoojung just looked at him with big brown eyes and flushed cheeks and his pink lips parted.
Y/n wanted to kiss him so badly. He tucked Yoojung's soft blond hair behind his ear, "Please? Do you?"
Yoojung gulped and took a deep breath, "Yes, I do."
A smile tugged at the corners of Y/n's lips and he leaned in and pressed a kiss to Yoojung's lips.
Yoojung couldn't quite believe what was happening.
"Hyung," He murmured when Y/n pulled back.
"Since when do you call me hyung?" Y/n asked and Yoojung blushed again. They were only a few months apart.
"I- "
Y/n kissed him quickly, "I like it."
He kissed him again, harder this time, "I like it a lot."
A realisation struck Yoojung as when Y/n pulled back a little to look at him, he clocked in the growing intensity in Y/n's eyes. He felt warmth pool in his belly.
He gripped Y/n's shirt and pulled him closer, "Kiss me, hyung."
Y/N's breath hitched before he did just as he was told, tangling his fingers in Yoojung's hair and connecting their lips again.
It didn't take long for the kiss to become heated, months of tension finally snapping and taking control of them.
He held Yoojung close to him as they kissed, appreciating the feeling of his warm body against his. A part of him still couldn't believe this was happening. He wondered if Yoojung was having similar thoughts.
He lifted Yoojung by the waist, perched him on the edge of the counter and stood between his legs before pressing his lips to his once more.
He loved the way Yoojung's kisses felt. They found the perfect rhythm quickly and Y/n had to admit that Yoojung was an amazing kisser and that this was probably the best kiss he'd ever had.
Yoojung cupped Y/n's face in his hands and slowed his kisses down until he eventually pulled back from the kiss with Y/n's lips chasing after his for a second.
Yoojung just rested his forehead against his, feeling his warm breath on his face. Y/n gave him a gentle kiss before stroking his hair out of his face.
It was best they stopped, he silently agreed. He was too into this and if they continued it would probably end up with clothes strewn everywhere.
There's a time and place for everything and now was not the time. He had come here to confess and tell Yoojung how he felt with complete honesty- not to sleep with him.
He lifted his head and his eyes traced Yoojung's pink cheeks, closed eyes and puffy lips and his heart fluttered. The knowledge that Yoojung felt the same had him feeling warm all over. Was he melting?
"Yoojung," He held his face gently in his hands.
Yoojung opened his eyes to look at him, "Hm?"
"Go out with me? Like officially?"
Yoojung looked hesitant for a second, "But Yeseul-"
"She knows."
"How did she take it?"
"Well, she's a little hurt and pretty disappointed. She really did like me after all. But she'll come around eventually, she just needs a bit of time."
Yoojung remained silent and panic rose in Y/n's chest.
"You don't have to. I can wait or-"
Yoojung kissed him to shut him up.
"I just needed a second to process. I've liked you for a while now and it's almost hard to believe you feel the same."
Y/n huffed out a laugh, "Have I not been obvious the past few months?"
Yoojung thought for a moment before responding, "Yeah, I suppose. I'm just a chronic overthinker."
He gave him a small smile and he returned it, wrapping his arms around the smaller boy's figure and holding him tight.
"So?"
Yoojung's smile widened. Y/n thought he looked the most beautiful when he smiled. Had he mentioned that yet?
"Yeah, I'll go out with you."
Y/n grinned and kissed Yoojung again. He never wanted to stop.
"I have another company dinner in a few weeks. Come with me?"
"You still just want to see me dolled up."
He gave him a cheeky smile, "Of course. I bet you look absolutely dashing in a button-up"
"Dashing? What am I, a prince?"
Y/n shrugged, "I mean, you've got the looks."
"Are you always such a flirt?"
"No, I guess you just bring out the best in me."
Yoojung scoffed, "That's debatable."
Y/n laughed and kissed him again, "Yoojung?"
"Hmm?"
"You have a beautiful smile."
"Flirt."
Y/n tucked Yoojung's hair behind his ear, "I'm serious."
Yoojung blushed lightly, "Thank you."
There was a moment's silence before Yoojung spoke up again.
"You woke me up-"
"I'm sorry."
"It's alright, it was worth it. The point is though that I am tired."
"Oh, do you want me to leave?"
"No. Stay but behave yourself."
"I can't make any promises."
Yoojung slapped him lightly, "I'm being serious here, Casanova."
"As am I."
"I'm regretting my decision."
"No, please don't. I'll shut up."
Yoojung laughed and kissed him (Y/n didn't think he'd ever get tired of kissing him), "I'm just teasing you, idiot. But really, I'm fighting to keep my eyes open."
Despite offering to take the couch, Yoojung insisted Y/n sleep in bed with him. Which might have been a mistake because even then Y/n didn't shut up.
Just as Yoojung was finally falling asleep Y/n spoke up again.
"I'm so happy, Yoo."
Yoojung huffed but kissed Y/n's hair, "Me too, hyung. But sleep now please."
"Okay."
Y/n held Yoojung tight the whole night, clinging to him as if he was worried he'd disappear but Yoojung didn't mind. He definitely didn't. Not after months of pining after him.
A/N: Could've probably ended that better but I'm on new medication and I can't think as well as I usually do.

Lazy Day
Request: Hey could you please write a scenario for weki meki’s yoojung where the reader sleeps over so in the morning they make breakfast together and just cuddle a lot.
Pairing: YoojungxReader
Y/N: Sorry if it’s a bit boring and too short. I realized after a while that I went too realistic and stuck to the prompt path like a leech lol. Next time I’ll try to do better.
Yoojung wakes up on her side facing the wall in her bunk. It doesn’t take long for her to register the arm draped over her and the hand loosely linked with her own. Your breath tickles the back of her neck as she tries to blink the sleep out of her eyes. She squeezes your hand softly to see if your awake, and when you squeeze back she shifts to face you. The both of you snuggle together as you hug her as close as possible, resting your chin on the top of her head with your eyes still closed.
“Good morning.” She groans into your neck, voice filled with sleep.
“Good morning Jungie.”
You lay there for about an hour going in and out of consciousness together Yoojung’s stomach starts growling. You pull back with an amused smile and start to slowly rise from the comfortable position you were in.
“Come on cutie, let’s make something to eat.”
You take the time to stretch while Yoojung gets herself together. She sits up in bed with her eyes half closed and a sleepy pout. When you look over you can’t help but to coo at how cute she looks trying to rub the sleep out of her eyes. Yoojung looks up and gives you an easy smile before taking your outstretched hand and getting to her feet. She holds your hand all the way to the bathroom, still trying to rub the sleep out of her face. You put toothpaste on both of your brushes and attempt to hand your girlfriend her, but she just opens her mouth.
Laughing softly at her, you put the toothbrush in her mouth and you both brush your teeth together. After you finish brushing your teeth and washing your faces you’re both a bit more awake and Yoojung gives you a quick kiss now that both of your mouths are clean.
“What do you want for breakfast? Whatever we make has to be enough for the girls too.” You head for the kitchen with her right behind you.
“Tteokbokki?” She suggests it so eagerly that it makes you laugh.
“Not for breakfast babe, I’ll buy it for you later. How about gyeran mari (egg roll)?”
“Okay, you do that and I’ll do some side dishes.”
With breakfast decided, you get to work and one by one the members come out to the smell of breakfast on the stove. When breakfast is served you all eat together and talk about your day’s plans. All of the other girls have plans to go out but you and Yoojung decide to go back to bed and watch the current drama you’re bingeing together in her bunk.
“Baaaabe grab the snacks before you come lay down!” Yoojung calls out to you from the bed.
“Which snacks? Or just all snacks?“
“You already know once you lay down nobody is getting back up. All snacks.”
You nod to yourself in silent agreement and grab all the snacks from the stash you keep in the WeMe dorm before returning to your girlfriend. You slide in next to her on the bed and setup up the drama and once everything is situated, Yoojung wraps her limbs around yours to cuddle for the rest of the day. Just like when you woke up, you both fall in and out of sleep but you never let go of each other for a single second.

Dating Poly!DoDaeng
Request: “Hi can you make a Yoojung & Doyeon(Weki Meki) Poly Dating? Thx”
A/N: this is my favourite ship of ALL time bye
- C
Get ready for the #1 Tol and Smol girls
seriously Yoojung and Doyeon really are the most loving and bestest girls aroundld like you couldn't be LUCKIER
CEOs of tiktok like y'all be going viral every other day of the week
which often involves learning new tiktok dances until like 3am in the morning but god damn it's worth it for your girls
Yoojung really being the greasiest out of all three of you and making you and Doyeon 'cringe'
though we all really know you two are just whipped for every little thing that she does
not only are they the best girlfriends, but you guys are best friends as well!!
you always have SO much fun together like there is never a single minute of boredom in the relationship, it's simply not allowed
which also means your dates end up being chaotic asf like who even KNOWS where you'll end up
however when you don't feel like going off the rails and being the crazy trio you usually are, staying at home and cuddling is also an amazing way to spend the day
especially when Doyeon goes in the middle and you and Yoojung cuddle into her, it really couldn't make you feel more protected and loved
and then Doyeon gets to give you two as many forehead kisses as she wants,,, which is usually a whole whole whole LOT
Yoojung loves to be held or holding either of you, she seriously cannot go 5 minutes without some form of contact with you and Doyeon
like she will hold your hand for HOURS don't even try her because she will take on that dare
100% THAT couple that matches your outfits, phone cases n y'all even got matching socks for sure
as well as sharing clothes, nothing comfier that being all wrapped up in your girlfriend's hoodie let me tell you THAT
n when Yoojung steals one of Doyeon's hoodies and Doyeon is like "Did anyone see that hoodie of mine???"
and Yoojung is standing there in a hoodie that goes down to her ankles and she's like "mmm nope sorry!!"
Doyeon and Yoojung always reach you weki mekis choreographies, especially when you come to keep them company in the practice room when they've been stuck in there practicing for a while
which also means the rest of Weki Meki end up being your great friends too
you always get invited to performances and special stages, and it's so amazing being able to see the two girls you're in love with fulfil their dreams of being performers :')))
Karaoke dates for SURE BRO
Yoojung be like let me just SCREECH into this mic for a hot minute while you and Doyeon end up rolling on the floor laughing from your girlfriend's antics
you usually end up staying there until you get kicked out, either for being way too loud or for literally staying there till the early hours of the morning like guys.... let the poor employees go hOme f 😔😔😔
Doyeon loves to take you and Yoojung shopping because she can pick out so many outfits for you two to try on that you wouldn't wear usually
the shop often ends up becoming a runway, all three of you strutting your stuff up and down the aisles in the most ridiculous of outfits
Doyeon also refuses to walk ANYWHERE unless her arms are wrapped around both yours and Yoojung's shoulders
not only does it make her go uwuwuwu to have her babies tucked into her side, it also assures her that you're both safe n sound :D
both of them would probably get jealous quite easily, but at the end of the day it would be more playful than anything
plus all you gotta do to put their minds at ease is give them all the kisses they could wish for uwu
speaking of kisses, Doyeon is definitely the one who acts shy about it, but then grabs either you or Yoojung and just kisses you like there's no tomorrow
and you and Yoojung are like.... why are you so good at that do it AGAIN
Yoojung is definitely the CEO of neck kisses (mainly because it's the only place she can reach bye JDSJS)
Scrapbooking dates!!!
sounds cheesy asf but it's so adorable, you guys take Polaroids wherever you go and keep a scrapbook with all the pictures in it
n you love to write little notes and details about that day and what happened so you guys can look back and remember all the amazing times you've spent together
like that time Yoojung took you and Doyeon to an amusement park on a date but then got too scared to ride any of the rides herself
but you just won her a big teddy bear from one of the claw machines and she was a happy little bub once again 🤩
And those days when Doyeon whips out her leather jacket and you and Yoojung are just DROOLING LIKE SHE IS SO HOT HOW-
Yoojung would 100% be the hopeless romantic out of the 3 of you, not going 10 minutes without confessing her love to either of you
10/10 the most loving and secure relationship, and the three of you truly have the closest bond that nothing will ever break 😔🥺♥️
NSFW From Here:
Yoojung the CEO of foreplay let's be real here
she will tease you and Doyeon until one of you is just like 'fuck it' and drags the other two to the bedroom
well... Doyeon certainly wouldn't be limited to the bedroom, she will take you and Yoojung wherever she feels like it
Yoojung loves being choked for sure
and Doyeon loves choking,,, the perfect match mayhaps
Yoojung absolutely loves sending nudes to you two when you least expect it as well, always wanting to catch you off guard and rile you up to no end
you best believe Doyeon saves every single one of yours and Yoojung's nudes, just a lil something to help when she's away from you guys and misses you ;)
Doyeon absolutely LOVES watching you and Yoojung put on a show for her, it actually drives her insane
until she's finally had enough and needs to make you two feel good herself
Yoojung is 100% so into experimenting with different things, like blindfolds, sensory play, wax play like anything she can try she will
and somehow, even though Yoojung is the one who loves marking you and Doyeon up, she always ends up being the one with the most marks on her
you cannot deny Doyeon has such big dick energy... which equals big strap energy iykyk
Shower sex is an absolute MUST in this relationship like when they both come back worn out and sweaty from practice it's their favourite way to wind down for the evening ;)
like when you were apartment shopping together for the first time the main thing that you guys wanted was a big ass shower to get freaky in... but that's your business honey
aftercare usually consists of Yoojung passing tf out and needing to be tucked into bed n you and Doyeon snuggling up beside her until you all fall asleep uwu
but you best believe that when you wake up the morning... that's just time for another round because Doyeon LOVES morning sex
because it's sleepy n soft n lil whines and you guys just being so close and intimate 🥺

honey tea | 02
banner by @theluttleprince
summary; hansol vernon chwe is crying at his doorstep like a taylor swift music video, and you’re for some reason there to help pairing; hvc / reader (f) genre/warnings; neighbors to friends, friends to lovers!au, slice of life, fluff, angst, tw—cheating, mentions of pregnancy related to cheating, profanity w/c; 1k a/n; *this will be a very noncommittal drabble series, i know this isn’t the return many were expecting but pls be gentle with me—unedited unplanned and all around chaotic impulses, you know the drill! take care drink water and have a wonderful week! [masterpost]
“And she has the audacity to come crying to me—me! I’m not even the father and I’m the one she’s stressing out!”
Is it possible to become inebriated over three glasses of honey milk tea? In your biggest sweater, your head pops out of the collar, nodding and humming at all the right spots. Who knew Vernon could be talkative? After all, he always seems perfectly content.
Your eyes blink rapidly over the next few hours, trying to absorb the movie-like play-by-play from Vernon. Nevermind that you have work in less than eight hours, or that Vernon ate more of your meal than you thought and you have to drink more and more tea to fill yourself up. Due to the fact that you’re drinking tea also guarantees you won’t be sleeping anyway, so it’s best that you call out of work now before it’s too late.
Just as you’re about to reach for your phone tucked into your sweater, Vernon breathes out, “Thank you.”
“Oh—oh no! It’s nothing,” you sound like a commercial as you say that, a smile that is a little too strained due to your tired eyes and caffeinated body. However, you still feel pity and there’s no sense in showing how you truly feel. “I’m glad you could talk about this with someone, sometimes it’s easier to talk about things when it’s between strangers.”
He neither refutes or denies your comment about being strangers, just hums contentedly as he tries to scoop up more honey from his mug. Vernon looks exhausted, molding himself between the couch with every minute.
Speaking of minutes, your eyes flit over to your My Melody clock hanging on the wall. At the center of My Melody’s belly, pink hands indicate the time is 12:01AM. Since starting your career, you run on grandma hours. Grandma hours mean being in bed by nine, otherwise you might as well throw the whole work day away.
You haven’t called out of work in awhile, so it’s okay. However, you’re ready to hit the hay and Vernon is dozing off on your couch. It looks like he’s trying hard not to go to bed, the caffeine finally wearing off his weary body.
Gingerly removing yourself from your seat, you grab the empty mugs and trash off the coffee table. “So,” you whistle, softly nudging Vernon with your toe, “I’m gonna get ready for bed, if that’s okay.”
“Oh, oh shit,” he jerks alive, swinging his Casio on his wrist and throwing your blanket across your cushions, “my bad, I’ll get out of your way.”
“No, no, don’t worry about it,” okay, maybe now you’re lying a little through your teeth, you are going to call out of work and he did eat seventy-five percent of your noodles, but this is definitely an off day. You’ve been waiting for things to go awry, especially when you’ve had a pretty good week.
Vernon is whirlwinding, throwing things in the plastic takeout bag and spilling chopsticks on the carpet. He’s not really helping, but he’s trying. You don’t have it in you to tell him to stop, so for a brief moment you close your eyes and pretend you’re in your bed.
However, instead of envisioning your bed, you’re thinking about Vernon having to step back into his apartment, where Yoojung would probably be waiting.
Or not waiting, if Yoojung is staying with the alleged baby daddy. You don’t know which is worse.
“Will you be okay?” Your words are short but filled with worry.
“I—I will be. Thanks, really,” Vernon doesn’t even look at you as he throws himself together. He launches all the trash in your metal bin, cheeks puffy and pink as he runs to the front door to slip in his shoes. He doesn’t even untie the laces, just jabs his feet in the sole. “Okay, I’m good. I’m good, uh, bye!”
Uh, bye?
The door closes, and as soon as he leaves, you let out a breath you didn’t know you were holding in.
As soon as he’s gone hits you like a trainwreck, and you’re out before you hit the pillow. You dream of Vernon, crying alone, and you an arm’s length away. You’re worried, but don’t know where to go from here. I mean, wouldn’t it be awkward to approach him after all of that?
It seems like life knows where to go, and you’re hanging on for the ride.
Your blackout curtains are probably the best investment you’ve made on the apartment. It really does make you feel like you can sleep for hours and hours without feeling bad about being a bum. Unfortunately blackout curtains are not soundproof, and nothing could dispel the horrid banging that’s been happening for the past hour. No, not sexy banging. Like shaking the ground, someone is moving a refrigerator down two floors banging. It’s loud, very loud. This shocks you because your neighbors have never been loud since you’ve moved in.
There’s a vibration throughout the apartment which reverberates through the hard frame of your bed, giving you no choice but to get up to figure out what the commotion is all about. Someone has hung up something in the wall connecting yours (maybe a mounted television?) and either dropped it or something because it’s making you anxious.
It’s 6:01, and you’re stuffing your feet in your hot pink Crocs, hunched over as you step out into the hallway.
“Oh, hi neighbor.”
Turns out, your neighbors are never loud because you never had neighbors to begin with.
Your landlord pops up, Jihoon jerking a head to the person behind the door frame. “Meet your new, or old neighbor, Vernon Chwe,” he says blandly, with a straight face indicating that it’s also way too early for him to be awake.
Vernon, who is still wearing the clothes you saw on him hours before, waves shyly from his (new!) empty living room.

Yoojung runs for her dear life back to the apartment she shares with her friend, you, because she’d told you that she was at home making you dinner when she actually had been at her homie’s place playing video games for almost the whole day. But it wasn’t her fault that she had been there for so long! In fact, it's Suyeon’ fault for winning all the time although she doesn’t play with nearly as much passion as Yoojung. Couldn’t she just put her pride to the side and let the younger win for once?
That isn’t the point. The point is that Yoojung has promised to make her roommate food because lately you've been a little more stressed out than usual due to your passion for your work and she wanted to do something nice for you… Which explains why she’s running for her dear life, checking her phone for how many minutes left there were until the delivery person was outside their door with one or two bags of noodles.
“Fucking hell,” she curses when she slips on the ice covered ground and almost falls face first.
After speeding down the sidewalk — well, with the highest speed one can walk on ice without risking death — she sees the apartment complex and sighs out of relief, the cold air making her warm breath visible. She puts turns the key to the place and she immediately scurries inside, only to stop when she sees a random person with two bags of food just a few meters away. Yes! She’d made it before the food arrived! After taking the bags and handing a few coins to the noodle person, she hurried inside to put the noodles in a pot to create the illusion of Yoojung actually making food — not burnt food!
She checks her phone for the first time since she was trying out for the Olympics outside. 16:19. She’s here any minute now, she tells herself and takes off her outerwear and puts them in their correct places as fast as possible, to make it seem like she didn’t walk through the door just a few minutes before. The sound of someone walking outside freaks her out and her reflex is to throw herself on the couch and act like she’s sleeping.
Creaks fills her ears followed by the sound of someone taking off their shoes. Her roommate ___. You just arrived from work.
“Yoooooojung!” you call out, thinking she might be locked inside her room, and get no response from the fake-sleeping woman. You check the hall then go to the living room, meeting the view of a cute girl with cute hair and cute fake freckles scattered across her red cheeks on the couch. Your smile grows slightly at her peaceful state.
Wait…
Red cheeks!
Your first reaction is to worry and crouch down next to her on the floor. Gently, you bring her little hand into yours, so she won’t wake up from her fake sleep (that you still aren’t aware of) and feel an alarming cold. Not really alarming, but cold enough for you to do something about it. Your feet take you elsewhere only to return to crouch by the couch. Suddenly the woman feels something embracing her body. It’s a thick and smooth fabric, warming her up the second it comes in contact with her. She brought a blanket for me? I must be a good actor then; she smiles inwardly at her talent at lying while you're thoughtful enough to pull the blanket higher up to cover her pink chin.
The internal smile wipes away when she now feels warm hands on the sides of her waist. What is she doing? she asks herself rhetorically, fully paranoid. How do I know it’s ___ and not anybody else? she asks herself, slowly growing anxious. Whoever it is who’s touching her is now delicately touching the sides of her legs, going lower and lower…
Soon her feet are lifted into the air… What if a murderer is touching me? Or a demon? I might’ve heard her — or its — voice but what if it’s a clone?! …and puff her legs are dropped onto something fluffy. Is she tucking me in? After that, you do the same thing to her arms until she is restricted and can’t move. She burritoed my claustrophobic ass—
“Fuck, why are you so cold, Babygirl?” she hears ___’s usually-sharp-now-soft voice close to her face as a wind of a fragrance from Rihanna’s perfume collection is swept on her face (which is all she needs to know that it’s ___; ___ always smells good, and everyone knows Rihanna’s perfumes smell like Rihanna and thus the closest one can get to smelling like a Goddess).
Wait— Babygirl? Blushing is her first reaction and she is so fucking glad that her cheeks are already red from the temperature. Then again, you wouldn’t have called her Babygirl and made her blush in the first place if it weren’t for her red cheeks. She can feel your eyes on her. Looking at her. Examining her. How can I make her warmer?
Tea. Chamomile tea. That’s what she needs. I’ll let her rest for a few more minutes until the tea is finished, you decide.
Whilst you are making tea in the kitchen, smiling at “the dinner Yoojung had made for you”, said woman is just chilling in the living room, still flustered about the caring side of her roommate who usually only focuses on work and doesn’t show much attention or affection for anything or anyone. She likes this side of you. Maybe she should act sick once a month. Once a week? Once a da— But why did you even call her Babygirl in the first place? And why did it make her blush? And why the heck was she overthinking it?
You walk back to her with a yellow Sponge Bob cup filled with hot tea in your hand and put it on the table before you leave again. Yoojung can smell the soothing herb scent of the cup next to her as she hears you approaching again, this time with a honey jar in one hand and a teaspoon in the other.
“Wake up, sleepy head,” you lightly shake her to try to wake her up, though she’s already awake.
Her eyes slowly open as if she’s been sleeping all along, maintaining the movie star status.
“Drink this while it’s hot,” you say softly, yet demanding.
“G'day to you too,” she replies with a big and sincere smile that is just a tiny bit too smug.
She breaks the burrito effect and sits up on the couch, thinking the blanket was everything that made her sweat. No. She is sweating because of what you said, and all thoughts that have been running around her head since then.
You puts multiple spoons of honey into the tea. “This might not be vegan, but I don’t wanna get sick and get behind at work because of you so you have to drink up every single drop,” you make up an excuse for your caring side, making Yoojung chuckle.
“Why did you tuck me in?” she asks with a neutral tone to not make you feel uncomfortable about being soft and caring.
She’s excited for the answer…
“Well, you were cold so,” you reply fast as an attempt not to sound too concerned about her.
For every second passing her smile grows more and more. “And…why did you call me that?” she looks into your eyes, looking for a real answer.
“Call you what?” you answer the question with a question.
“Babygirl,” she says so content, so delighted, so warm.
You try to think of a good answer to no avail when you realize something… “How did you know I said that?”
Oopsie! Her smile falters a little. All she can do is stutter out parts of sentences that do not make any sense at all, trying her best to come up with a justification.
“Did you act like you were sleeping?” you lean against the couch amusingly at how you dodged an uncomfortable explaining and instead turned your cutie of a roommate into a blushing, stuttering mess.
