"Surely there was a better way to convey this information" probably! That may be why I'm no longer asked to contribute to our social media page at work!
But its that season again and i want to remind everyone that just because an object is vest-shaped and floats does not make it a lifejacket. Only a Coast Guard approved PFD is tested and rated to save your life. Here's an example of what I'm talking about:
This...thing pops up in searches for "child's inflatable lifejacket" and bills itself as such. But scroll down and we find an explanation:
In contrast to life vests meant to keep your head above water, our vest enables you to swim smoothly with your head in the water. It keeps you buoyant longer for a safe and enjoyable experience - without worry of surprise riptides or fatigue.
Catch that? This thing is not intended to and will not keep your head above water, the single most important thing a personal flotation device should do. What if you are in a riptide and fatigued while wearing this thing and not longer able to keep your breathing hole above the water's surface? You're shit out of luck. You drown.
Consumers may notice that there is a warning notice on the back, but the good people at Amazon have cleverly obscured it. We can still make out "does not protect [...] drowning". If your waterwings, floaties, or vest-shaped inflatable have a disclaimer like this then they are not rated to safe your life, your child's life, your dog's life, whatever!
By contrast, every Coast Guard approved PFD has labeling like this:
It will clearly say USGC approved and have an approval number. It will say WHO it is rated for (infant, child, youth, adult), the size (small, medium large), an upper weight limit, and generally what kind of recreation its approved for (near shore versus offshore etc). It will give you instructions for proper use and signs that your lifejacket is nearing the end of its utility and needs to be replaced.
Not all personal flotation devices are suited for all activities. Whitewater kayaking and deep-sea fishing need more specialized gear than a day at the lake. But you should have, at minimum, a correctly-sized, well-fitting, CG approved PFD in serviceable condition for any kind of activity on or near the water. Have it, but most importantly, wear it!!!!!

I’m still thinking about the machete
For reference, this is a machete. (Pic taken from the Woodland Tools Heavy Duty Machete listing). As someone who used to sell knives as my Actual Job, a machete is pretty big! It’s not impossible to hide, but it’s big. It could probably fit in a thigh holster if you’re tall, which Jay…..isn’t, or in a back holster if you’re average height. So the machete is probably in a back holster of some sort, likely worn under his vest. They were usually sold with a holster/case of some sort, often with a space to thread it on a belt, which would work if he doesn’t care about concealing it.
This is an axe. (Photo taken from an amazon listing for throwing axes. We’re assuming it’s meant as a weapon here). It’s about as long as the machete, but weighted pretty differently. When I sold knives, axes often came in a plastic clamshell, while most of the machetes we sold came in a decently nice holster. Not that you can’t make or buy an axe holster, it’s just not something I saw as often. Typically, folks aren’t carrying around an axe for bushwhacking the way you might carry a machete. They’re not necessarily un-portable, but it’s a little less easy to whip out a concealed axe.
As a third reference, I’ve taken the liberty of copying this photo of “life size Jay Descendants cardboard stand-up” and marking where I think he could fit a concealed weapon. Not necessarily a machete/axe sized weapon, but a knife or bug spray can of Decent Size. Thinking palm sized or bigger.
We’ve got:
Two obvious vest pockets. Probably pretty small, but could fit a folding knife or a small bug spray.
Vest collar. The big fold feels like a prime location for a hidden pocket. He could fit a large knife in here, or maybe a Nintendo DS.
Hat. An obvious choice for the bug spray can. Keep those bugs away and any other secret stolen objects safe. We know he’s put things in here before because we literally see him doing it in the first movie.
a quick honorable mention for my back holster idea. I think this has the highest axe/machete potential. I think he could do it.
two standard pants pockets. We don’t know the size of the second one (covered by his vest….waist….thing) but knowing boy’s pants, they’re probably pretty big. He might be able to fix a machete in there. If he’s got a smaller axe (maybe a throwing axe?) he could definitely fit that in a standard pants pocket.
Thigh pockets? Access to a secret thigh holster where he can fit more knives? This seems like a good, likely option for bigger knives. Maybe not a full sized standard machete, because Jay is truly Not That Tall, but like, a big two handed knife? Sure.
Knee??? Pockets???? I understand that these zippers are probably there to indicate that he can zip his pants off into shorts, but in my heart he’s got little tiny pockets at his knees. These are too small to fit a machete. These are only large enough to fit isle snacks, which are small and sad because the children are starving.
okay, I know I said I’m done with the knee pocket thing, but why is there a little piece of knee armor on the right side? I can only assume it’s there to disguise a hidden pocket for thievery.
Boots. Shove some knives in the sides of those boots like we shoved our phones into our ugg boots back in 2010. Jay’s got some pretty chunky boots here, he could fit at least one knife in each, maybe two if he packs them right.
This has been hidden weapon time with blue! I still think a machete is WAY too big to hide anywhere but a back holster, but I support all of Jay’s hidden weapons and I’m mentally adding an axe to his pants in every scene now.
#I’m not sorry about this#he deserves that machete#or possibly axe#jay son of jafar#descendants#I don’t have a shitpost tag but just to be clear#this is 100% a shitpost

PHOTOSYNTHESIS || EUPHORIA AU
What if the only way to escape your past is to confront the secrets you've hidden from everyone?
At 22-years-old, Indigo is trapped in a dangerous and abusive relationship. Living with her twin brother Andre, Indigo struggles to keep her life together while hiding her painful secret from those she loves.
Working at a photo studio in the mall, she meets Elliot, a compassionate coworker who brings light into her life. As their bond deepens into a romantic relationship, Indigo is torn between her growing feelings for Elliot and her fear of Giovanni's wrath.
Faced with mounting tension and the threat of discovery, Indigo must find the strength to confront her past and reclaim her future. Photosynthesis explores themes of love, resilience, and the quest for freedom amid fear and secrecy.
I. PHOTOWORLD
"Do you have any work experience?" The manager's voice cuts through the low hum of the neon lights overhead.
Indigo meets his gaze with a cold stare. "No. That's why I'm here."
He blinks, clearly unprepared for her bluntness. "Why do you want to work here?"
The silence stretches out, heavy and uncomfortable. Only the buzzing of the neon lights fills the space as Indigo shifts in her seat, her expression unreadable.
"I like taking photos," she says, her voice clipped.
The manager raises an eyebrow. "A passion for photography?"
She hesitates, then nods. "Yeah. I've loved it for as long as I can remember."
There's another long pause, the weight of his scrutiny hanging in the air. "Indigo Autry, right?"
"Yeah," she confirms, her voice quieter this time.
He looks her over, taking in the details—her long brown braids, blonde eyebrows, septum piercing, and the tattoos visible on her arms. After a beat, he pulls a purple vest from his desk drawer with the name "PhotoWorld" embroidered on the chest.
"Alright, Indigo. You start tomorrow. Elliot will train you." He hands her the vest. "See you at 10 AM."
Indigo takes the vest, nodding stiffly, "That's it?"
The manager blankly stares at the girl, nodding his head, "Well, we need more workers."
"Oh. How many people work here, again?"
"Just Elliot."
Elliot. A man, who's probably the same age as the manager. He's probably pushing seventy, at least. The idea of working with someone his age every day makes her stomach churn.
"Great. Can't wait," she mutters under her breath as she steps out of the mall office, scanning the crowd for Andre.
-
"So, you got it?" Andre asks as they walk toward the car, a hint of excitement in his voice.
"Yeah," Indigo replies, tearing into her Auntie Anne's pretzel bites, her face blank.
"That's dope!" Andre grins, starting the engine.
Indigo rolls her eyes. "No, it fucking sucks. I don't want a job, let alone that job."
"Quit being so dramatic. At least you've got one. Now you don't have to steal shit to survive," Andre says, shaking his head.
"Dude, that place hasn't been updated since, like, the '80s. The manager looks like he's about to drop dead, and there's only one other employee—probably twice my age."
Andre laughs. "It could be worse. You could be working at Amazon or something, where you'd actually have to break a sweat. Who even gets their photos taken at a mall anymore?"
"I'm just lazy. I don't want to work. I don't want to go to college."
"Oh, right," Andre scoffs. "What, you want to spiral again?"
"Shut up!" Indigo snaps, blowing smoke from her joint directly into his face.
"Yeah, well, last time you didn't have a job or go to school, we know how that ended. You want to go back to rehab?"
"Spare me the lecture. I'm clean. I'm doing the job. But that doesn't mean I have to like it." "Welcome to adulthood, sis."
Indigo says nothing more, slumping against the seat as the city lights blur outside the window.
-
Indigo groans as she wakes up to Andre shaking her. "We don't have any water," he says, his voice sharp with irritation. She groggily glances at her alarm clock—8:45 PM. She slept through the whole day again.
"Try turning it on again, dumbass," she yawns, turning over.
Andre shakes her again. "They turned off the water! I can't shower, I can't do the dishes."
"What do you want me to do about it?" Indigo growls, burying her face in the pillow.
"Help me pay the fucking bills!" Andre snaps.
She rolls out of bed, grabs the fifty-dollar bill from her dresser, and shoves it at him.
"Here. I start work tomorrow, so whatever."
Andre takes the cash, but she's already back under her blankets, the weight of their shared history hanging between them. They've always lived like this—financially unstable, dealing with a house that's too small and a life that never quite gets easier.
"Don't wake me again unless you're dying," she mumbles.
"Well, everyone is coming over in an hour."
"Great. Get me a Red Bull when you hit the corner store."
An hour later, the small mobile home fills with the sound of laughter and clinking bottles.
Their friends D'Shawn and Daniel are already posted on the couch, playing video games. Andre's twin sister, as usual, is in the middle of it all, but her mind is miles away.
She knows the cycle too well—Giovanni will show up soon, and things will take a turn. The room will turn silent. The mood will become far less lively. But for now, she forces herself to enjoy the moment.
-
About an hour later, Indigo and Andre's friends gather in the living room, cracking open Coronas and playing video games on the TV.
"You going to my New Year's party tomorrow?" Daniel asks.
Indigo nods, a playful smirk on her face. "Duh."
"How are my favorite twins doing today?" D'Shawn calls out, grinning.
D'Shawn and Daniel have been their friends since childhood. D'Shawn is practically their third sibling, having spent countless nights at his house when their mom was drinking. They all grew up together, navigating life's ups and downs.
A sudden knock at the door interrupts their laughter. "Dre, who is that?" Indigo asks, a knot forming in her stomach.
"It's probably Gio," he replies nonchalantly.
"What's good, man?" Andre greets, dapping Giovanni up and taking the pack of Truly's from his hands.
"Mmm... You're glowing today, baby," Giovanni smirks, pulling Indigo in for a kiss. When they pull away, her expression betrays her discomfort.
"Thanks," she says flatly, and Monet raises an eyebrow, "Rough day?" Monet asks, her concern evident.
Monet Manning is Indigo's best friend, the one person who stuck by her through thick and thin, even after rehab.
"Yeah, kinda. Every day feels like a rough day at this point," Indigo admits, earning a nod of agreement from Monet.
Just then, Giovanni chimes in.
"I can fix that for you, baby," he smirks, his hand trailing along Indigo's back. She groans audibly, her friends chuckling at the scene.
"Don't call me baby. We're taking things slow, remember? That includes kissing, too... So, watch it," Indigo reminds him, trying to assert herself despite the disappointment in his eyes.
"Mmm-hmm. I remember," he replies with a hint of arrogance.
Monet watches them, a soft smile on her face, "You guys are so cute."
But they weren't cute. In fact, they were the complete opposite—filled with toxicity that erupted whenever they were together. But, Monet always had a fixation on love and romance because she struggled to find it herself.
"You're cute," D'Shawn flirts, causing Monet to blush a deep shade of pink. It's almost cringe-worthy how hard she tries to play it cool, but she fails miserably.
"Shut up, D," She playfully hits his shoulder, while Indigo cringes at the reminder of her own messy relationship.
"I got a job at the mall," Indigo blurts out, hoping to change the subject.
"Yo, that's dope! Congrats!" Monet exclaims. "You're about to be making that money!"
"You didn't tell me about a job. In fact, you haven't said a thing about looking for one," Giovanni scoffs, "What store?"
Indigo takes a long sip of her beer. "PhotoWorld."
"The fuck is that?" Giovanni raises an eyebrow.
She slams her Corona on the coffee table, "You don't have to curse at me, Gio."
Giovanni chuckles and stands up beside her. "You better watch your fucking tone with me."
"Yo, chill out, G! Don't talk to my sister like that," Andre causually warns, still glued to the TV.
Just as tension builds, Monet interjects, "Indigo, girl, we need more wraps. Wanna go grab some Backwoods with me?"
Relieved, Indigo agrees and they head out the door. She glances back to see Giovanni picking up her beer, blowing her a kiss.
-
"Still putting up with Gio?" Monet asks as they walk, watching Indigo type on her phone. She hesitates to text him after their earlier encounter.
"Why are you still with that bitch? I know he's our friend, but this is a serious low point for feminism."
Indigo looks up, caught off guard by Monet's bluntness.
"Excuse me?"
Monet launches into a passionate rant, "It's obvious you're not into him anymore. And honestly, I wouldn't be either! He cheated on you when you were literally in the other room. That's some fucked up shit."
"I let a lot slide, but never that. That's STD territory right there," Monet says with a chuckle, making Indigo grimace.
"Ew," she replies, knowing Monet's right.
Indigo sighs, her embarrassment evident. "I mean, it's not like I can just leave him..."
Monet's eyes widen in disbelief. "Why not?! You hate him."
"I hate his guts, but I can't stop loving him. He's cute, toxic, annoying," Indigo groans. "But, he has this stupid chokehold on me that I can't explain."
Monet scoffs, frustrated, "Well, break it, girl."
"Relationships just aren't my thing anymore. I can't handle commitment; it's too much. I liked being casual, no strings attached. I need to leave him, but I just... don't want to be alone," Indigo admits, her voice tinged with desperation.
"Or maybe, you can't handle your commitment to him. Girl, the entire city would date you if you let them. Maybe, it's time to find someone new," Monet replies, attempting to lift Indigo's spirits.
Indigo ponders for a moment, staying silent and completely ignoring her best friend's statement.
-
"Indigo, we need to talk," Giovanni demands, grabbing her wrist and pulling her away from her friends.
"What the fuck is your problem?!" Indigo snaps, throwing her hands up, irritated by his sudden mood shift. Instead of answering, he drags her into her bedroom.
"What makes you think you can treat me like that in front of our friends?" Giovanni asks, forcing Indigo to meet his gaze, "Look at me when I'm talking to you."
She stays quiet, nodding submissively, feeling his control tighten around her.
"You think you're cute, huh? Acting like you can treat me like crap?" he accuses, his anger flaring.
Indigo shakes her head, her patience wearing thin. "I'm sorry, but do I not have every right to treat you like shit after I saw you fucking some girl?"
Before she can process what's happening, he slaps her across the face, the sound echoing in the room. Indigo instinctively clutches her cheek, feeling the sting.
Tears threaten to spill, but she refuses to let them fall in front of him.
Giovanni softens, brushing his lips against her forehead, "Hey... Don't cry," An ironic attempt to soothe the pain he caused, "I'm sorry, baby. I just needed you to be quiet, okay?"
Indigo glares at him, her resolve hardening, "Just let me go, I need to go socialize. This is my house you're in."
"Indigo—" he says, reaching for her wrist, already bruised. "Touch me, put a fucking hand on me again, and I'll yell."
He steps back, and she opens the door, rushing to the bathroom to finally let her tears flow.
How can he make her feel so small when she knows she's so much bigger than this?
-
"Fuck," Indigo groans, staring at her alarm clock.
Her first day of work is finally here.
Growing up, she never had a job she liked. At seventeen, she went through a phase of trying every job she could find, only to be fired within a week. From hostessing at Olive Garden to working as a waitress at Waffle House, and even trying her luck at Target and Walmart—nothing stuck.
She slips out of her pajamas, gazing at her bare body in the mirror.
Her skin is marked with multiple bruises on her ribs and abdomen—some fresh, some faded—but all from the same person: Giovanni.
As she leans closer to examine her reflection, she notices a bruise on her right cheek from last night's incident. Indigo stares at it, tracing the sensitive area with her fingers. Tears stream down her face.
She's always prided herself on being strong and confident, someone unafraid to stand up for herself. But every time she confronts Giovanni, it's as if her body freezes.
Her mind halts. Time stops until he decides she's had enough.
But she can't let it affect her today. Not on her first day. She has a big day ahead, learning how to take mediocre mall photos.
-
"I'm supposed to train all day with some dude named Elliot," Indigo tells Andre, exasperated. "If I'm stuck with some 80-year-old, I'm walking out."
"Why not at least try to be optimistic?" Andre suggests.
"Optimism is not in my vocabulary," Indigo retorts.
She notices her brother watching her rub her lower abdomen throughout the car ride.
"Hey, are you and Giovanni good?" he asks cautiously.
Indigo raises an eyebrow, removing her hand from her stomach. "Yeah, we're fine. Don't worry."
"I was just asking because he was talking to you pretty crazy yesterday."
"We're fine, Dre. I made him mad; it's whatever," she insists, slipping on her purple vest. "He just has a short temper, you know that."
"Yeah, that's why I'm concerned. You disappeared all night after you two talked."
"Drop it, Dre! Jesus," she snaps, getting out of the car. "I'll text you when I'm ready."
"Okay, whatever. Good luck, sis," he calls after her.
-
Indigo stepped into the mall, perhaps the worst one in all of Florida. Most of the stores were shuttered and gathering dust, and the few shoppers were mostly local families just trying to kill time.
She paused in front of the flickering neon purple sign of 'PhotoWorld,' her feet rooted to the ground as if reluctant to step inside.
"Yo, my girl over there?" A girl shouted to a blond guy behind the counter, gesturing in Indigo's direction, "Yeah, she thinks you're fine as hell."
"Oh, really? What's her name?" The blond asked, flashing a charming grin.
"Nia."
He chuckled, "Beautiful. Tell her to give me her number."
The girl returned to her friend, Indigo still standing outside, uncertain. With a deep breath, she finally pushed through the store's entrance.
"So, are you my new coworker?" he asked, extending his hand.
She took it, nodding. "Yeah, I'm Indigo. You must be Elliot."
"Yup, Elliot Fike," he replied, holding her hand a beat too long before she pulled away.
His gaze fell on the bruises that marred her wrist. "Nasty bruise you got there. You alright?"
Indigo sighed, irritation creeping in. "I'm fine."
"Damn, I kinda wish you were the girl that thought I was fine," Elliot joked, earning him an eye roll.
"Well, I'm not," She shot back.
"Here, want to play some music?" He offered his phone, a glimmer of friendliness in his tone.
Grudgingly, she took it and selected one of her favorite songs, "There Is a Light That Never Goes Out" by The Smiths.
"Your music taste is fire. I fuck with The Smiths," he said, trying to keep the conversation going, but Indigo felt the connection falter.
"Don't you have to train me or something?" she finally asked, glancing around the empty store as the minutes dragged on.
"Do you know how to work a camera?"
She nodded.
"Consider yourself trained," he said nonchalantly.
Indigo rolled her eyes, thinking, 'Great, he thinks he's funny. Charming, even.'
After a few minutes of silence, Indigo glances at Elliot and blurts out, "What's with the face tattoos?"
Elliot grins, flashing his tattoos, "Don't let them intimidate you."
To his surprise, Indigo cracks a faint smile, the first he's seen, "Trust me, I'm not intimidated."
"Right, because you're the intimidating one," Elliot teases with a smirk.
Indigo rolls her eyes, sitting up straighter. "I'm literally just sitting here, minding my business, and you're over here assuming things."
"For the first five minutes, you wouldn't even look at me," he points out.
"God forbid I'm shy," she says dramatically.
"I doubt that," he replies, raising an eyebrow.
"Don't judge a book by its cover."
Elliot leans back. "I'm not judging. But we went to high school together, Indigo. I sat behind you in math for two years. You never even said hi."
Indigo blinks, her brow furrowing. "Wait, what? Really?"
"Yeah, East Highland. You even used to ask me for answers sometimes," he says, watching recognition dawn on her face.
"Oh, shit." She leans back, surprised. "Well, I wasn't a bitch—"
"A little bit," he jokes.
Indigo narrows her eyes. "Well, it's a good thing I didn't ask your opinion, huh?"
Elliot smirks, finding her fiery response entertaining. She wasn't the type to back down, and that intrigued him.
"You were the popular girl," he says teasingly, watching for her reaction.
Indigo grimaces. "Gross. I was not."
"Could've fooled me. You had your little friend groups," Elliot continues, enjoying the banter.
"Friend groups, yes. Was I like Regina George? Hell no. Stop obsessing over me," she shoots back.
Elliot shrugs. "You were definitely popular. Admit it."
"If that helps you sleep at night," she says with a dismissive wave. Then, she switches the topic. "You going to Daniel's New Year's party?"
Elliot raises an eyebrow. "Daniel who? I wasn't popular, remember?"
Indigo snorts. "He's my friend. But, you should go. Lots of weed, shitty music, and assholes who are just like you."
"I prefer having no friends, thanks," Elliot says with a grin.
Indigo giggles. "Yeah, I can tell."
Elliot smirks. "So, are you inviting me to go with you?"
Indigo sucks her teeth, "No, I'm just suggesting you go. Alone. So you can make some friends, which you apparently don't want."
"Jealous boyfriend going with you or something?" Elliot asks, clearly fishing as Indigo's smile fades slightly. "It's complicated."
Elliot leans in, intrigued. "Complicated?"
"Ex-boyfriend. Current situationship. I don't feel like explaining it to a stranger," she says, shutting down the conversation.
"Technically, we're not strangers. I introduced myself. And I've known you since freshman year," Elliot reminds her with a grin.
"Yeah, well, he was my boyfriend, did something really fucking stupid, and now I'm stuck trying to fix things," Indigo says vaguely.
"What'd he do?" Elliot asks, mocking her earlier tone. He's clearly poking at her now, and it starts to get under her skin.
"Personal."
Elliot raises his hands in surrender, but Indigo's curiosity flickers again.
"So, what? You got big plans on Friday or something? Running this photo studio your whole life? Where's the manager?" she asks.
"The manager is never here. But, wow," Elliot drags the word out, feigning hurt. "That's rude. I don't even want to be a photographer, actually. In fact, I might have a gig downtown Friday, if you need to know my agenda so badly."
Indigo's interest piques again. "Gig? You sing?"
"Maybe," he replies, brushing it off.
"Hmm. Interesting," she says, grabbing a piece of copy paper and doodling absentmindedly. She puts in her earbuds and doesn't speak to him for the rest of their shift.
-
As they're about to close, Indigo gets an AirDrop notification on her phone.
"I made you this playlist," Elliot says casually. "Might keep you better company than that complicated boyfriend of yours. Songs that remind me of you."
Indigo raises an eyebrow, slightly taken aback. "Remind you of me? Is that a compliment?"
"Sure. Just songs I think you'd like," he says with a small smile. "Made it during my break."
Indigo grins, unable to help herself. "Geez, got a crush on me or something? Guys don't usually make playlists unless they wanna fuck or like you."
Elliot looks away. "Nah. Honestly, still deciding if I even like you as a person."
Indigo watches him, amused. "But?"
"You're interesting, though. The type of girl people write songs about," he says, almost too casually.
It catches Indigo off guard. It's the best compliment she's had in a while, not the usual shallow "you're hot" comments or Giovanni's manipulations.
"That's... sweet. Thanks," she murmurs. "I'll listen to it."
"So, I'll see you at Daniel's?" She asks, glancing back as she leaves.
"Maybe," Elliot says, softer this time.
-
"So, how was your first day?" Monet asks as they pull up to the drive-thru.
Indigo laughs, lighting up their joint, "Elliot? My coworker? That man is fine as hell."
Monet gasps. "Let me see!" Indigo pulls up his photo. "Bitch, you work with that?!"
"Yup. Only me and him."
Monet shakes her head, "If you don't fuck him, I will."
Indigo chuckles. "I mean, I've thought about it. Like, on the counter or something."
"Girl!" Monet claps her hands. "You better hop on that!"
Indigo sighs, munching on fries, "Stop, you know I can't. Giovanni would actually kill me."
Monet gets serious, "And you don't see a problem with that?"
"I'd rather stay with him than deal with the mess that would come if I left," Indigo says quietly.
Monet shakes her head, her voice softening. "But you deserve to be happy, Indigo."
Indigo changes the subject quickly, "Well, I invited Elliot to the party tomorrow."
Monet grins, "Oh, you're definitely planning something. Don't lie."
"Maybe... a little bit," Indigo admits with a mischievous smile.
She doesn't know what she did by inviting him, or what's to come between them while working at PhotoWorld. There was no doubt, she's attracted to him. But, there was no point in fantasizing over something that could never happen.

rats, I was gonna add this to my original cover reveal post as a reblog, but apparently I can't? I didn't see a video option for rb, anyway. I guess it's fine bc this got longer than I meant it to, although that's mostly because I wanted to include information that would've already been in the post I had planned to reblog
anyway please behold the magic of me somehow creating a book trailer despite generally having no video editing skills to speak of. I think it slaps actually
here's the original post: link to cover reveal post
here's a full book description
In this mesmerizing, wonderfully moving queer cozy fantasy, an immortal ghost hunter must confront his tragic past in order to embrace his found family. Find an angry spirit. Send it on its way before it causes trouble. Leave before anyone learns his name. After over two hundred years, Peter Shaughnessy is ready to die and end this cycle. But thanks to a youthful encounter with one o’ them folk in his native Ireland, he can’t. Instead, he’s cursed to wander eternally far from home, with the ability to see ghosts and talk to plants. Immortality means Peter has lost everyone he’s ever loved. And so he centers his life on the dead—until his wandering brings him to Harrington, Ohio. As he searches for a vengeful spirit, Peter’s drawn into the townsfolk’s lives, homes and troubles. For the first time in over a century, he wants something other than death. But the people of Harrington will die someday. And he won’t. As Harrington buckles under the weight of the supernatural, the ghost hunt pits Peter’s well-being against that of his new friends and the man he’s falling for. If he stays, he risks heartbreak. If he leaves, he risks their lives.

and here's alt text for the video
text fades in over softly blurred flowers, reading "The Keeper of Lonely Spirits, book trailer and cover reveal."
text split up throughout the trailer reads: "a ghost. a curse. a town in peril. to save an Ohio town, he'll have to risk his heart…"
as the music starts, clouds dissolve into faded flowers, a sunset field, an upward shot of trees, an overhead shot of a small town.
fade to black.
as the music swells, cut to: a swiftly ticking pocketwatch; someone walking through a forest, wearing jeans and boots; a cemetery; sunlight through the trees; a cheerful old white man in a vest.
more images flash swiftly, getting faster and faster: an old white man with a weary expression, leaning his forehead against a wall; hands fixing a pocket watch; an overhead shot of trees; a ghostly figure in a corridor; a weathered cottage in a field; an old man running with two children; a lone headstone; someone running alone in the sunset; a flash of color in the air; a young Black woman sitting on the floor in front of a couch, look sad and holding a cup of tea; two old men kissing; closeup of a man's eye with tears falling; yellow flowers; an old letter; two old men with their foreheads pressed together.
the last image lingers; one man's eyes flicker up to the other's face.
now the images slow. closeup of an old white man from the back, facing the sunlight, dissolving into a sunlit field with text over it reading, "You get used to it." the text is wiped away and replaced by different text: "I hope I never get used to being alone."
cut to: a background of yellow flowers. the cover of E.M. Anderson's The Keeper of Lonely Spirits fades in: a small cottage sitting atop a lonely hill, with smoke drifting from the chimney, surrounded by headstones, yellow flowers, and intermittent trees, with the title "The Keeper of Lonely Spirits" centered in large, yellow, sans-serif text and "a novel, E.M. Anderson" centered in smaller, white, sans-serif text below it. music is XAmbassadors' Unsteady.

Thenamesh smut in Amazon
"Hey."
"Hey," she whispers back as he comes to sit beside her again. They're waiting for Druig. He says he needs time, so he's given them rooms to sleep in while he decides what to do.
Gilgamesh sits heavily. He's tired from the journey, just as she is. He's had an eye on her this whole time, carefully watching every breath and look and flinch. "It's been a long time, huh?"
Her lips twitch. It's been longer than she cares to count since they last left Australia. "It has."
Not that he feels he needs the privacy, but in a room with just them, he freely raises a hand to her cheek, his thumb brushing over her cheekbone. "You okay?"
He asked her that when they were with their family. When they had been seated in that suffocating little chapel and he had finally dozed off after being hyperaware of everything about her over the course of the trip.
She nods, leaning into his touch and all but purring. His concern is not unfounded; she has been nothing short of overwhelmed by things since they left their arid little paradise in the outback. But he has also been there to anchor her every step of the way.
He pulls her closer, so her head can be tucked into his shoulder. He kisses her forehead. She smells the remaining scent of Australia and the musk of the rainforest around them on him.
Gil's hand slides up her back, rubbing soft circles as she nuzzles his neck. "Remember this place?"
She does. She remembers prowling around up on the high walls of their temple over the city. She remembers the gentle, almost musical clinking her chainmail would make as she moved. She remembers the weight of his arms as they would encircle her, swaying them both in the breeze like palm fronds.
Gilgamesh turns his head as she nudges his chin. She tips her head up to kiss him, their lips soft against each other. "Thena."
She cuts off whatever he is about to say with another kiss.
His hands are careful with her, as they always are, but especially here. He pulls back, holding her cheeks, searching for the faintest flicker of white.
He finds only green, her pupils growing as she takes in the man before her--the man she loves.
She leans forward again, and he's more receptive this time, letting his lips bend against hers. She sighs as she slithers into his lap. "There were so few left."
He lets her speak her mind, idle as she paws at him, undoing his vest and slipping his suspenders off his shoulders.
"We had such free time, then," she purrs, eyeing him like a fine cut of meat. He smiles a little and she knows she almost has him. She slides her hand into the two tiny little buttons of his shirt to his chest. "We didn't do much watching when we were on watch duty."
"Oh, I remember," he finally grins that big smile that makes her feel funny--her brain shuts down all other thoughts and feeds her only the bliss that is Gilgamesh unfiltered. His arms come up behind her, supporting her back and gripping her delicate shoulders. "You, me, a little shelter of trees in the back?"
They may not have always been as cautious as they should have been.
"Hm," Thena moans gently as he finally takes a more active role in his own seduction. He unbuttons her dress for her, kissing her neck to keep her occupied during the laborious task. "From the side--you held my leg up."
He groans at the memory of it. "That tree ended up falling later that night."
Thena smiles, turning her head to let him nip at her pulse. "Sersi knew--she pretended not to, but she did."
Gil pulls her dress off her shoulders, sitting rumpled around her elbows and revealing the white slip underneath that protects her porcelain skin. He buries his face in the silken material, pushing at her breasts, "like they were always so discreet."
Thena pulls his head up to kiss him again, leaning into him and letting her breasts meet the firmness of his chest. He sorts through the material of her dress from the bottom up with her knees on either side of his hips.
He finally parts it enough that he can pull her slip up her legs. He inhales, dragging in a breath like he's coming to life again. His hands grip her behind.
Thena kisses him again, hoping to speed things along. She climbed on top of him for a reason.
"Okay, okay," he chuckles, because of course he knows that she's being impatient. He lets her snap his suspenders off and reach into his trousers. He grunts and flinches as she grips him. "Easy, sweetheart."
She loves it when he calls her that.
Gil helps her sink onto him until their hips meet in a blissful and ecstatic grinding motion. He holds her, their breaths rising and falling until they're on the same rhythm. He pulls her forward, their foreheads meeting gently. "You okay?"
"Hm," she nods as she starts moving. He rocks against her, just enough, letting her set their pace. Her hands trail over him liberally, soaking him in, drinking in every drop of him. Her mouth hovers between kisses and trying to breathe in the hot, sticky air around them. "Gil."
He holds her tighter, bucks harder. He leans back a little on the tiny bed provided to them. Druig never did like thinking about their relationship too much. He's never been one for affection, and Gil thinks he's fond of Thena in a way that prevents him from thinking of her like that.
"Gil," Thena moans again, louder this time as their hips start really moving. The little hut gets filled with the sounds of their breathing, of him moving in and out of her and how slick that movement is. She grips fistfuls of his shirt between leaning in for greedy kisses. "More."
He never denies her anything.
Gil wraps her waist in one strong arm, leaning all the way back and thrusting up and into her at an angle that makes her vision go white--in a good way.
She keens, letting out a mix of a moan and a whimper as he scrapes against a particularly sensitive spot. "Gil!"
She comes undone first, as is almost always the case when they're entangled. Something about him undoes her--unties all her knots, unwinds her tightness and relaxes every snag and wrinkle until she's as smooth as a pool of water.
He follows her, happy to go where she leads. He groans as he comes to his own undoing, letting himself go. She braces against him until they're both a limp puddle in the aftermath.
His arms fall around her. She falls onto his chest, still connected to him until he eventually slips out of her softly. She moans at the feeling.
He rubs her back again, making sure she knows that he's there, that he loves and cherishes her. She snuggles into his chest in reply. He kisses the top of her head, "you okay?"
"Hm," she smiles, burying her nose in the warmth and the smell of him and Australia and the rainforest and their lovemaking.
#Thenamesh AU#Thenamesh 18+#a little something while they're revisiting Tenochtitlan#because I fully believe that by that time they were comfortable in their relationship#maybe a little too comfortable#at least it's not in the sand#and because this is an au Druig left with them after this and nothing bad happened the end#he came to get them and immediately turned around again#he orders Sersi to get them and she resents being told what to do#until she gets to their little guest hut and immediately knows why Druig wouldn't even set foot on the front step#she sighs and knocks and tells them to get themselves together#thank you for the ask my love!#I hope you like how it turned out!

HOW did you make your Baldr cosplay. You've inspired me to wanna try and make one too, got any tips on doing it?
aaaaaa I feel so honored I inspired you!!!! ;0; my disclaimer is that I am the farthest thing from a professional lol, but I will show you how I did it! My cosplay philosophy is that I am lazy and want to spend as little money as possible ⭐ I always use clothes I already own, the base outfit I already owned I only needed to get the belts, hoodie and wig
This is long I'm so sorry I just went thru the whole process :')
Here is every part of the finished cosplay:
Boots
Black jeans
Pants chain (mine is just an old one from hot topic)
Blue belts x2 (got these on Amazon, $10 USD each)
Black shirt + vest (or you can do one black button down, in canon Baldr looks like he's wearing a black vest over a white shirt but I felt like my vest was too low it would've looked weird)
Black fingerless gloves
Hoodie (Amazon, $18 USD) + tassel (Joann's Fabrics $10 USD)
Mark of mastery by MadeByFjori on Etsy ($6 USD) I bought it unpainted to save money and just got some metallic gold paint :) its really good quality and shipped fast! I had taped a safety pin on the back of it to attach it to the hoodie (I had tried super gluing it but it mf broke off!!! Tape it is,)
Wig (mine is the Skyelar classic in silver from Arda Wigs!) If you have no experience styling wigs that's fine since Baldr's hair is so choppy that if you fuck it up it works LOL I always style my wigs while wearing them thats just me, I brushed the hair in front of my face and cut the bangs around the bottom of my eyes and went from there. I also cut part of the sides framing my face
If you have dark hair like me I recommend a skin colored wig cap!!! Dark hair spilling out from a white wig will look weird, they sell them kn the Arda Wigs site
Optional: Starlight keyblade from Spirit Halloween ($40 USD) it's solid plastic, lightweight and looks amazing! The only bad thing I've found is the keychain just. Is not durable. Last year it broke off at a convention and I lost it 😔
Optional: face mask by KumalatteCreations on Etsy ($16 USD) I wear it with all my KH cosplays lol I have 2 masks for cosplay from them, really great quality, fit and has a place to insert a filter. I have the OSFA teen/women size because my face is tiny :')
Okay but let's talk real shit: the Hoodie. It's a plain white sweatshirt from Amazon, size up to get that oversized look Baldr has. Also disclaimer: do NOT get a thick hoodie I tried my best to get a light weight one and oh my god. For something that is essentially Just Sleeves I was SWEATING TO DEATH okay anyway materials:
Hoodie base
Gold fabric (I bought 1 yard and had more than enough)
Black buttons x2
Black ribbon
Tassel
Fabric scissors, fabric glue, needle/thread, safety pins
Black and orange markers
If you get a hoodie like mine where the hood strings have metal around the edges, use white paint or white out (I did not have time to buy white paint,) to paint over the metal so its not distracting
Now the How To:
Pull out your hood strings if applicable, paint any metal like I mentioned above
Use fabric glue to add black ribbon around the sleeves, do this in sections not all at once, do the ends of the ribbon around the back of your armpit to hide the ends. On my hoodie there was a hem on the sleeves that I followed so it was easy to make it even on both sides
Crop sweatshirt in half and cut down the middle front but DO NOT go all the way to the top where the hood is, stop about 2 inches away from it otherwise you will be me having to sew that shit back together
Measure where you want the front to fold open, you will probably have to cut more off of the sweatshirt bc if its too big you will be pinning that shit onto the top of your shoulders, basically shorter in the front and longer in the back (I know mine is so messy I didn't measure I just guessed I know wtf @ me-)
Flip hoodie inside-out and add gold fabric to the inside of the hoodie, leave about half an inch room around the edge for hemming, yes the entire inside too, I found that when I moved around I could see the back of the inside and it looks weird when the gold fabric suddenly stops
If you have a sewing machine or want to do this by hand then fold over the edges and hem it on top of the gold (not me tho I was con crunching and glued that shit all the way around,) it cleans up the edges and adds the white border to the part you will pin open
What I WANTED to do was to sew the buttons onto the hoodie and add button holes on what would get pinned but I did not have the time so I sewed the buttons directly onto the front pieces so when I fold it open I used 2 safety pins on each side to hold it up
For the tassel: I colored it with a peachy/light orange sharpie and a black one. I measured how long I wanted it to be and cut the other end off and used fabric glue on the end to stop fraying. I wrap it around the buttons and do a simple loop knot to keep it in place
if you end up doing what I did irt the tassel, don't go in with a regular orange marker bc it came out so dark on the fabric its made of like I just happened to have this peach/skin tone sharpie that came out the right shade on the gold fabric
Finally, pin the mark of mastery in place!
Now you are Baldr :)
#i hope this made sense?!#like I said Im not a professional idk what Im doing this is the first time I've done anything major to a piece of clothing#my only sewing experience is fixing holes and putting on buttons#tbh I rushed so badly making this I want to redo it some day lol#its so funny when I put on the outfit in that wip shot before I started doing major changes to the hoodie I was like#oh god what the FUCK am I wearing and my dad was like. what the fuck are you wearing#i didn't actually see what the final result looked like until The Day Of The Con and I got dressed and was like THANK GOD IT LOOKS GOOD#ask#anon#cosplay#baldr#kh#khux#khdr#kingdom hearts

Plsss if anyone has links to sensory friendly clothing or weighted vests or good ear defenders send them 2 me
I've been looking everywhere and I refuse to use Amazon
I feel like for every ten small businesses that make autistic/sensory safe clothing there’s like 1 that makes medically accessible clothing. You can get noise muffling from headphones instead of having it built into a hood. I, however, have to go to the disabled bathroom and take off my fucking pants to clean, brace, and topically medicate my joints, and that’s only one thing I have to do.
We need more affordable medically accessible clothing. If someone knows of a brand that sells that stuff please god reblog this and give me a link.

I nibbled at my lip as I browsed the Amazon wish list that Peter had made for me, titled HONEYMOON FOR MY SWEETHEART. He had carefully selected stylish and comfy articles of clothing for me to buy, choosing different hues of greens with bits of blues sprinkled in.
I scrolled to the bottom of the list and promptly turned bright pink at the sexy lingerie set that he had added in a soft sweet green color. I also added bright poppy turquoise colored lace to my shopping basket and then went to check out.
I checked out, turning to where Peter was doing his rehabilitating workouts with the babies as weights. Even now, he still couldn’t stand for long periods of time and was currently about to graduate from using a custom made cane tuned to his height and weight, but if there was one word to describe my husband’s work ethics, that word was determined.
He hadn’t said it out loud, but I could tell that he was itching to get back into shape so that he could protect his family from those intending to do harm onto us. While I was appreciative of his role as the family protector, I understood that he had been gravely injured and that he now needed to fully heal before he could honestly do anything else.
Peter had told me that Type O Negative was going to go on tour in November and that he wanted the entire family- myself, Baby Tommy, Daisy, Elizabeth, Elle, Katie and Jing- to accompany him. He had told me that the band manager was looking into hotels for the family to stay in while the band went on a six week tour of the east coast, to which my response had been that I would need to make arrangements for the girls to be homeschooled and for the house to be looked after in our absence.
The Ratajczyk family patriarch had told me that the band would be hitting up to five cities a week, and that by the end of the tour, Type O Negative would’ve visited thirty three cities. He had given me a rundown of where our stops would be. I was so excited- Salem, Boston, Philadelphia, Charleston, Baltimore, Savannah, Myrtle Beach…
“We are going to have so much fun,” I giggled the night before while we were curled up around each other. “Do you want me to call up Adam and ask him if the twins can come with?”
Peter’s face glowed with happiness as he tugged me to lay on top of his burly chest as he peppered my face with kisses.
“I love you.” KISS “I love you.” KISS “I love you.” KISS “I love you.” KISS “I love you.” KISS “I love you.” KISS “I love you.” KISS “I love you.” KISS
“I love you, my handsome silver daddy,” I giggled, cuddling into him as a late night infestation of bedbugs swarmed the bed. “Hihi kids.”
“Mamamamamama…” babbled Baby Tommy as he awkwardly crawled up to us before falling into my pillow and snuggling into the sleep aid. “Mamamamamama…”
“To what do we owe this late night visit to?” Peter rumbled as he opened his arms for the kids to come in and tuck themselves into his side.
“Little girl wouldn’t stop whining,” Elizabeth explained, tugging the adorable two year old girl and Elle into her side and rolling onto her back.
“Poor little girl,” Peter crooned, allowing her to crawl up onto his as well. “Is your baby anxiety make it hard for you to sleep?”
“Papa Pete,” mewled little girl as she settled down for sleep. “Papa Pete. Papa Pete. Papa Pete. Papa Pete. Papa Pete. Papa Pete. Papa Pete. Papa Pete.”
“Little girl’s baby PTSD will pass soon enough,” I told the family as I began to gently stroke her chubby leg.
“Oh!” Katie gasped, sitting up suddenly. “Before I forget…” She tore off out of the bedroom, leaving me and Peter to exchange glances. She returned about five minutes later, holding a neatly wrapped parcel, which she handed to her baby sister. “Happy birthday little girl, from Lizz Lizz and me!”
The already spoiled birthday girl happily tore into her present, unwrapping a little cloth dollie. Much like Baby Tommy’s mini me, it was carefully hand crafted in light brown cotton fabric for the skin, with dark red yarn for hair and a petite white diaper and bright pink t-shirt.
“Mee mee!” squealed little girl as she hugged the plush toy tight to her chest. “Mee mee!”
“Liddle gurl?” Baby Tommy asked, holding up his own well-loved plush toy. “Baabee Tom Tom? Liddle gurl? Baabee Tom Tom?”
I giggled as I watched the babies comparing their favorite toys before they settled down for bed, cooing as they held each other’s hands.
“Sweet babies,” I cooed, settling myself down for the night. “Goodnight my love.”
“Goodnight sweetheart,” he chuckled in a deep rumble.
“See you in the morning.” I settled my ear against his chest and drifted off to sleep listening to my favorite sound.

How To: Weather Bag!
I remember moving out of California, it was empowering. I have long had the nickname: Cali Girl. I think my ex still calls me by that nickname, but along with the name comes a reputation. When the first winter in Nevada hit, man-I was the laughingstock of the town. Since then, I have vowed to never be caught in any weather unprepared.
In my head, I started this post off as a “weather bag” post. Like you have weather stuff in a bag and you are just ready to go. And honestly that is the start, but it has evolved to a weather proof closet, that also holds bags. Let’s go by each season...
Fall:
Knit hat/Beanie
Neck warmer
Knit Gloves
Scarf
Lined leggings
Wind Breaker (Tommy Hilfiger/Costco)
Winter:
32 deg warm (lined Sherpa vest, base layer pant and shirt, jacket, pant, unlined vest, beanie, gloves, scarf)
Snow boots (khombu-Costco)
Weatherproof Socks (Costco)
Winter Jacket (Tommy Hilfiger/Costco)
- There are four seasons to a year, but there is a mid point between each season. If you look at other worldly calendars and holidays based on calendars, there 8+. So some of the items will work for the warmer or colder parts of the year due to this reason. -
- Also, 32 degrees is a brand that makes clothes to keep you warm or cold, with the ability to do either built into the fabric, not a chargeable or chilled clothing. For colder months go 32 deg warm/for warmer months go 32 deg cold. I am not saying get all the items right now, but look out for sales or in Costco. -
Spring:
Umbrella
Leggings
Hat (water proof/wind/sun-amazon)
Gloves (waterproof, amazon)
Rain boots (nautica-TJ Maxx)
Rain jacket (Tommy hilfiger-Costco)
Rainier short/capri (Eddie Bauer-Costco)
Summer:
Hat (Solar escape-Costco)
3 in 1 fan
32 deg cool (dress, pant, sweaters, shirts, shorts, skirts)
Outdoor sandals (khombu-Costco)
Keep cool neck gait
Athletic wear/tennis shoes
So that covers the what, how many now? It is never a bad idea to have more than 1 on hand. One reason, is because if you have unprepared company-you can be a helpful host! Another reason I like it, is sometimes I get a hat from traveling and it has sentimental value. So if I don’t have to worry about ruining a sentimental thing, but still be prepared. Is there a concern you get a thing and never use it? Maybe, but this is where I tell you my idea of making shadow boxes for special trips and putting photos/items from that trip in it.
Cali has seen some ACTUAL weather recently, so even though I am prepared-something I thought might be silly since I ended up back home and probably here for a while, the universe rewards preparedness! But, what does this timeless post have to do with the rest of the year? The upcoming sunshine? This simple rule:
“You never look for a swimsuit in summertime”.
Ever notice how you look for a swimsuit in summer, don’t use it in winter and lose weight somehow and want to look hot-and can’t find one? That is because you are looking at the same time as the rest of the unprepared world. You prepare before the rest of the world. This idea applies to lined leggings for winter, and sun hats for the summer. Don’t get caught in the rain without an umbrella!
