"Surely there was a better way to convey this information" probably! That may be why I'm no longer asked to contribute to our social media page at work!
But its that season again and i want to remind everyone that just because an object is vest-shaped and floats does not make it a lifejacket. Only a Coast Guard approved PFD is tested and rated to save your life. Here's an example of what I'm talking about:
This...thing pops up in searches for "child's inflatable lifejacket" and bills itself as such. But scroll down and we find an explanation:
In contrast to life vests meant to keep your head above water, our vest enables you to swim smoothly with your head in the water. It keeps you buoyant longer for a safe and enjoyable experience - without worry of surprise riptides or fatigue.
Catch that? This thing is not intended to and will not keep your head above water, the single most important thing a personal flotation device should do. What if you are in a riptide and fatigued while wearing this thing and not longer able to keep your breathing hole above the water's surface? You're shit out of luck. You drown.
Consumers may notice that there is a warning notice on the back, but the good people at Amazon have cleverly obscured it. We can still make out "does not protect [...] drowning". If your waterwings, floaties, or vest-shaped inflatable have a disclaimer like this then they are not rated to safe your life, your child's life, your dog's life, whatever!
By contrast, every Coast Guard approved PFD has labeling like this:

It will clearly say USGC approved and have an approval number. It will say WHO it is rated for (infant, child, youth, adult), the size (small, medium large), an upper weight limit, and generally what kind of recreation its approved for (near shore versus offshore etc). It will give you instructions for proper use and signs that your lifejacket is nearing the end of its utility and needs to be replaced.
Not all personal flotation devices are suited for all activities. Whitewater kayaking and deep-sea fishing need more specialized gear than a day at the lake. But you should have, at minimum, a correctly-sized, well-fitting, CG approved PFD in serviceable condition for any kind of activity on or near the water. Have it, but most importantly, wear it!!!!!

If you feel the need to gift your chronically ill friends things for whatever reason, here is my "starter pack/gift guide"
A pack of their favorite gateorade flavor, great for hydration, tastes good, easy and quick. Body armor, prime, etc are also good options if they dont like gateorade
Some of their favorite powder electrolytes. Liquid IV and drip drop are some good options. There are also the generic brand electrolyte packets at Walmart, I think they taste good. There is also bouy if they like the squeezy ones, i dont but if they do bouy has an unflavored one as well as like 30 different options
Kt tape. Regular, extreme strength, cooling, heating, literally any type of kt tape. They can probably find a use for it. Most ((not all but most)) chronically ill people, at least the ones I know, suffer from some type of joint issues and kt tape is a life saver. On this vein, I would stray away from braces unless you know what joints/muscles specifically give them the most trouble, kt tape is a bit more versatile
Compression socks, there are cute ones on Amazon, Walmart, many small business sell some nice ones. I would go for a higher compression, or at least upwards of 15 mmhg, for the best chance of them being worth it
Temperature devices, im putting these in the same bullet point bc it felt unnecessary to put ice packs and heating pads in different points. Ice packs are really nice for swelling and heating pads are really good for pain. Both are a good option ALWAYS. I will say, the reusable ice packs give you a better bang for your buck than the single use crack and use ones.
Their comfort foods. A bit of an ed tw for this bullet point, but i have noticed quite a few of my fellow chronic illness sufferers deal with an ed, and while it isnt all of us, those who do probably find it a bit extra hard to eat on rough days. So comfort foods/snacks
If they have to take their blood sugar for things, lancets. They usually come in like 100 packs for really cheap, like under 5 bucks cheap. Just check to see the brand of their lancing pen before you buy them tho
Batteries, it sounds weird but stay with me. Do you know how many medical devices I have that require batteries?? MANY. My hr monitor, my glucose monitor, my blood pressure monitor- like bro, a pack of triple a batteries will mean more than you think trust
A weighted blanket/stuffie. Stuffies are cute and easy to carry around, blankets are nice when you need some extra weight
If they have a service animal, an accessory for their vest/leash/collar could be nice
One of those reacher things that grab things for you. I want one of those. When your stuck in bed, cant move, ill, in pain and suddenly drop your mother fucking phone cord off the side of your bed and now you have to MOVE and grab it- 10/10 worst experience. One of those grabby things would be amazing
A migraine cap. I got mine from target but I have seen them at Walmart, on Amazon, weirdly one on depop, some on shein, some at places like tj maxx, etc. Migraine caps are especially wonderful for those days where your shut in your room, blinds drawn, fans off, three ice packs on you in constant rotation, barely mobile and for some gods forsaken reason your blinds wont close all the way so the light keeps catching your eyes and making you want to lose your ever loving shit bc you cant move to fuck with them. And more normal experiences Im sure lmao
If your short on funds, just being there with them, listening to them, watching a movie, body doubling so they can get some help with chores, running errands with them, literally anything so they remember their a human person with human feelings that you love and care abt. Who knows, it might help you feel better too
More than anything, listening to what they want and need is a bigger gift than most think

march 27 @ sabres, 7-3 loss
sidney crosby is officially the most consistent player in the history of the sport. boy oh boy are we a lucky, lucky fanbase. don't ever take watching him play for granted!!!!
and that's all that happened in this game i'm pretty sure.
@beggingwolf talked me into doing a little mini-AU of my influencer!geno story that i'm hoping to work on this offseason, and that + this picture reappearing in my life where he really DOES look like an influencer got the wheels turning. and here we are!
Normally Zhenya vets his brand trips pretty thoroughly. There are some people out there who jump at every sponsored vacation that’s thrown at them regardless of who’s picking up the bill, and while Zhenya’s not about to pretend he’s some scrupulously ethical guy who only shills products he supports with every fiber of his being, he’s also not interested in flaunting a lavish trip for some brand his followers have never heard him talk about before.
Some of his vetting is selfish, of course. He wants to be flown out to fun places with people he can actually tolerate, not the ever-growing mass of early-20s fitfluencers who all talk in the same cadence and over-filter their videos so their followers can’t clock the injection sites and surgery scars while they’re talking up some new weight-loss fad product as if it’s the secret to their looks.
Zhenya’s not like that. He’s still filming on the same camera he bought back when he first started recording himself, well before the pandemic and when the concept of being an influencer as a full-time career didn’t really exist yet. He doesn’t even think he knew the word ‘influencer’ when he posted his first video to YouTube all those years ago; he just wanted to make workout videos for people who can’t get to the gym and maybe raise his own personal trainer brand a little at the same time. Rent isn’t cheap in NYC after all, even on Zhenya’s Equinox salary, and new clients, especially ones above a certain income bracket, are never a bad thing.
When the pandemic hit, Zhenya seriously thought he’d have to somehow move back home, slink back to his parents’ house in backwoods Russia and admit that his dreams had been a little too big after all. Five years ago, he never could have guessed where he’d be now.
Quitting his day job had been risky, a decision he agonized over for weeks. But the partnership offers were piling up, and his manager was fielding high-profile celebrity requests by the dozen to have him come and design custom workout plans for them. The money piling up in his accounts was staggering, an unfathomable total to a boy who grew up in a one-bedroom apartment in an industrial post-Soviet town.
Even if it all comes crashing down tomorrow, it was worth every minute. Zhenya’s trying to be smart with his money, squirreling most of it away into investments he can live off and buying property instead of yet another shitty Amazon ‘must-have’, but he’s enjoying the fruits of his labor, too—the nice cars, the nice house, the nice vacations in five-star hotels.
He would not classify Buffalo in March as one of the nicer places he’s been to, but the reason he’s going makes this trip the most exciting one yet. The chance to watch his favorite hockey player break a Wayne Gretzky record as the Penguins’ guest isn’t something Zhenya would pass up in a million years.
«I don’t know what to wear,» he whines, stabbing at his phone until it switches to speaker and tossing it on the floor at his feet as he continues to paw through his closet. «Is it tacky to wear a jersey? Do I look good in jerseys?»
Artemy sighs so loudly Zhenya’s phone crackles. «You sound like a teenage girl,» he informs Zhenya, who rolls his eyes and holds up his plum puffer vest in consideration. Maybe this with a long-sleeve shirt…? «Of course jerseys are tacky. But everyone in the damn arena will have one on. Bring something else for after if you think they’ll let you take pictures you’ll want to post, but if you want to wear a jersey, wear one. You’ll look fine.»
«But which one?» Zhenya muses, turning to look at the long row of Penguins jerseys taking up nearly a quarter of his closet.
Artemy hangs up on him. Zhenya doesn’t bother calling back.
He does pack a jersey though—a game-worn one that Zhenya saved for months to afford and really had no business buying at the time. It’s not autographed, but Crosby scored 23 goals while wearing it, and Zhenya’s nostalgic for the Vegas gold color scheme.
He brings a hat from his collaboration with Goorin Bros too, one of the gray beanies. The black sold better, but Zhenya prefers the gray, and it’ll look better with his purple vest.
The Penguins offer to put him in a suite—apparently the demand isn’t high for premium seating in Buffalo this year, go figure—but Zhenya manages to wheedle a seat on the glass, right next to the visitor’s penalty box. He wants to be close to the action, where he can hear and see everything and hopefully get some good pictures.
The flight to Buffalo is short, but Zhenya upgrades himself to business class and spends the entire 90 minutes slouched in his seat scrolling through Sidney Crosby highlights on YouTube. He’s watched all these videos hundreds of times by now, but he could use a refresher—what if he meets Sid? He wants to sound like he knows what he’s talking about, like he’s a real fan, not just a clout-chaser or a puckbunny.
Stupid, really. The PR person hadn’t been sure Zhenya would be able to meet any players—they’re going straight from the game to the airport, everyone eager to get home after the road trip—but he’ll get a tour of the locker room anyway, and the team wants to take some pictures of their own to post.
They put him up in the same hotel where the team is staying, and Zhenya spends the afternoon fantasizing about walking down into the lobby, running into Sid, and charming him with some line that gets them talking.
The very thought of it terrifies him, so Zhenya orders room service and goes to bed as early as possible.
Zhenya’s been a Penguins fan for what feels like his entire life. When he was younger he was obsessed with Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr—his parents couldn’t afford to put him into the hockey program in Magnitogorsk, but he used to play out on the pond with his friends, and he always had dibs on taping a 66 onto the back of his coat. Most of the kids in Russia cheered for Detroit, and Zhenya had a Red Wings hat too, but it was the Penguins he followed as best he could.
When they drafted Sidney Crosby and Zhenya got a look at him on TV for the first time, that just sealed it. He’s followed Sid’s whole career, digging through the bowels of the internet for game footage in the middle of the night until he moved to America and could watch games at a reasonable hour, and the first vacation he took in the US was to Pittsburgh, to watch the Penguins play up in the rafters of the Igloo.
Now that Zhenya makes real money he’s been to a lot more games, in much better seats. He’s talked about the Penguins on his platforms as long as he’s been on social media, sometimes dedicating entire videos to rant about poorly-officiated games or gush over a play Sid made that didn’t get enough attention. He supposes it was only a matter of time until someone on the team stumbled onto his account, but he still can’t believe they reached out to invite him to potentially watch history be made.
The hotel gym is deserted the next morning, and Zhenya runs off as much of his nervous energy on the treadmill as he can tolerate. He spends too long primping in the mirror after his shower, pushing his hair back and forth until he remembers he brought his hat and rolls his eyes at himself before cramming it onto his head.
The Penguins send a car for him late afternoon, and Zhenya spends the hour before warmups wandering KeyBank center with a pretty brunette from the comms team. She giggles and blushes when he casually flirts with her—Zhenya might be gay but he has eyes, he can appreciate a beautiful woman, and everyone likes to be flirted with.
He has time to grab a canned cocktail before heading down for warmups, settling into his seat and sipping on his drink as he films a quick video to post to his feeds. When the players come out Zhenya practically plasters himself to the glass, staring raptly as the Penguins skate past him and getting as much footage as he can to sort through and post later.
He’s never had seats this good. This fucking rules.
It gets even better a few minutes into the game when Sid takes a penalty and spends two minutes barely two feet from Zhenya’s seat. Normally Zhenya would be watching the penalty kill through his fingers and holding his breath, but this time he spends the entire penalty half-turned in his chair so it’s not quite so obvious that he’s staring at Sid.
Sid sprays water down the back of his jersey and then in his mouth, and Zhenya learns what it looks like when he has drops of water on those big red lips up close. He spends most of the two minutes chatting with the penalty box attendant, but when there’s about half a minute left and he’s standing up in preparation to skate back out, he glances to the side, right at Zhenya.
Zhenya watches Sid’s eyes widen, then glance up at his hat, and then the penalty is over and Sid skates back out to rejoin the game.
“Holy shit,” Zhenya mutters, placing his phone in his lap so his shaking hands don’t drop it. “No way, holy shit?”
He’s so flustered by the direct eye contact that he almost misses when Sid officially passes the record, a beauty of a goal that sends Zhenya and what feels like the entire arena to their feet. The applause is long, even from the home fans, and Zhenya practically wears out his thumb taking pictures of the scoreboard, the bench, the crowd, and himself. He didn’t get a video of the goal, but there will be enough footage posted all over—Zhenya got to see it with his own eyes, practically in front of him.
Unfortunately, that’s the high point of the game. Zhenya winces through most of the second period, and even a pair of goals in the third to make the final score a little less mortifying doesn’t quite match the emotional high of Sid’s goal.
Zhenya loves seeing his team in person, though, even when they lose, and he’s shaken off his disappointment by the time the brunette comes to take him to the players’ area.
Zhenya wrinkles his nose at the workout facilities—he’s still an Equinox snob at heart, sue him—and badly wants to poke through the refrigerator in the player’s lounge, but when they approach what can only be the locker room he clams up.
The girl—Emma—pauses with her hand on the door, looking up at him. “They’re all going to be in the change room by now,” she says reassuringly, adjusting the camera around her neck. “And they know we have a guest, so you’re not intruding. I know this is a little weird, I hated coming down here when I first started, but they’re totally used to it. If anyone pops in it’s because they watch your stuff and want to say hi—some of the younger guys were really excited when we told them you were coming tonight, and I’m pretty sure Tanger follows you. Anyway, don’t worry about it. We’ll be in and out.”
Tanger does follow Zhenya. That happened about three years ago, and Zhenya spent most of the afternoon having a quiet panic attack in his apartment when he got the notification. He didn’t think that meant Tanger actually looked at his posts. How embarrassing.
The Penguins are expecting content out of this, so Zhenya squares his shoulders and flashes his brightest smile at Emma, who turns pink and lifts up the camera, pushing the door open and clicking record.
Zhenya hams it up in the room, putting on the slightly-exaggerated public personality he’s been cultivating for years. It’s not entirely fake, Zhenya wouldn’t be able to sustain it for this long if it was, but it’s a little bit more than he is in real life. It plays well on social media, so whatever.
Once Emma’s happy with what she got, she takes a few pictures of Zhenya on his phone. He flips through them before they leave, pausing on the one of him sitting in Sid’s locker and looking to the side—that’s the one, he thinks. He’s glad he took his jersey off for these pictures.
“Oh,” Emma says, and Zhenya looks up guiltily—she’s been so nice, but he’s sure he’s keeping her from getting home. She’s staring down at her phone. “So, Sid wants to meet you? Is that cool? He’s still with the trainers, but can you wait a few minutes?”
Zhenya’s brain shuts down.
He must reply with some form of affirmative, though, because Emma taps something on her phone before guiding Zhenya out of the locker room and back to the player’s lounge.
“I’m so sorry, but I have some stuff I need to take care of before we head to the airport,” she says apologetically. Zhenya can hear her phone vibrating in her hand. “Are you okay waiting here alone? Sid knows where you are, he should come find you soon.”
“Sure,” Zhenya says faintly, and Emma smiles at him before rushing off.
Zhenya looks around the room, then shakes his head and sits on the couch, taking a deep breath. He’s going to meet Sidney Crosby—he needs to get it together.
He distracts himself by making a few color adjustments to that picture and typing out a few different captions before settling on one. He debates over the hashtags, but it’s not like the Penguins could possibly be surprised—Zhenya’s very, very out, and he’s never shied away from praising Sid’s looks as well as his hockey on his platforms. If they don’t know, that’s their own fault.
He’s just hit post when someone clears their throat.
Zhenya’s head whips up so fast he almost pulls something in his neck.
“Hey there,” says Sidney Crosby, standing a few feet away from Zhenya and dressed in the tightest, most threadbare pair of lululemon leggings Zhenya’s ever seen. “Geno, right? Thanks for sticking around, sorry to make you wait.”
“Um,” Zhenya says intelligently, fumbling his phone into his vest pocket as he gets to his feet. “No problem, like, fun to see the locker room and stuff.”
Sid steps closer and sticks his hand out. Zhenya takes it, praying his palm isn’t as sweaty as the rest of his body feels. Sid’s hair is still damp, but he smells like cologne, and Zhenya wonders if he’s going to faint. “Great to meet you, man,” Sid says, smiling at Zhenya. His teeth are so white. “We’re all big fans, the boys were pretty excited when Jen told us you were coming. Tanger’s gonna be pissed at me forever, he really wanted to meet you but he’s still stuck with the docs.”
“Oh wow,” Zhenya says, holding Sid’s hand for a hair too long before dropping it. Up close, Sid’s mouth is so red and his eyes are enormous. He’s a little shorter than Zhenya thought, but he’s broad, and his biceps are straining the sleeves of the t-shirt he’s got on. “Um, I’m not know you watch. Well, I know Tanger follows, but I don’t think he actually watches, you know.”
Sid bites his lip. “I follow you too,” he says, voice low like he’s sharing a secret. “I’ve got a…I think they call it a finsta? It doesn’t have a profile picture or anything, you wouldn’t know it’s me. But I started following you during the lockdown, your videos were great. I was getting so bored with the stuff the trainers sent out, and everything else I found was like…it just wasn’t good, you know, but then Tanger found your account and—” Sid pauses, and Zhenya watches in amazement as his face turns red. “Sorry. Jesus, I’m babbling, I get like this after games. Anyway. Sorry we couldn’t get a win for you, but I hope you had fun anyway.”
“Best,” Zhenya rushes to reassure him. “Your goal, like, it’s so good, classic Crosby goal. So cool to see you break the record, I can’t believe. I’m a fan for so long, I never think I get to see something so close like that.”
Sid’s smile returns in full force. “Oh, you’ve been a fan for a while, eh?” he says, tilting his head coyly. Abruptly, Zhenya realizes he’s being flirted with. “Well, it’s a shame it took so long for us to get you down here—I would have loved to have met you sooner.”
“Yes,” Zhenya says dumbly, reaching up to scratch the back of his neck. Is this really happening?
Sid’s eyes follow his hand, widening when he looks up at Zhenya’s beanie. “Oh, your hat! I saw that when I was in the box, that’s really cool. Goorin, right? Kris has a ton of stuff from them, I remember when your collection came out. You got any extras of those lying around?”
Zhenya takes a deep breath and decides to be brave. “Yes, I have at home, lots of colors,” he says, reaching into his pocket for his phone. “I can send to you, maybe? But you’re have to tell me what kind you want, like, hat or beanie, what style—maybe you give me your number, I can send you pictures?” He unlocks his iPhone and holds it out, hand shaking only a little.
Sid stares at it for a minute, and just when Zhenya thinks he’s made a horrible mistake snatches it out of his palm. “Maybe instead you should come to Pittsburgh and bring some with you,” he says, pulling up the messenger app and starting a new thread. “I mean, probably it would be better for me to see how they look, right? And it’ll save you shipping. If you’ve got time you could stay a while, come to a few games—we have another roadie coming up, but our last couple of games are at home. What do you think?” When he hands Zhenya his phone back, his smile is sly and his eyes are sharp.
Zhenya heads back to his hotel with Sidney Crosby’s phone number burning a hole in his pocket. It’s a good thing his flight isn’t until later tomorrow—there’s no way he’s sleeping any time soon tonight.

rats, I was gonna add this to my original cover reveal post as a reblog, but apparently I can't? I didn't see a video option for rb, anyway. I guess it's fine bc this got longer than I meant it to, although that's mostly because I wanted to include information that would've already been in the post I had planned to reblog
anyway please behold the magic of me somehow creating a book trailer despite generally having no video editing skills to speak of. I think it slaps actually
here's the original post: link to cover reveal post
here's a full book description
In this mesmerizing, wonderfully moving queer cozy fantasy, an immortal ghost hunter must confront his tragic past in order to embrace his found family. Find an angry spirit. Send it on its way before it causes trouble. Leave before anyone learns his name. After over two hundred years, Peter Shaughnessy is ready to die and end this cycle. But thanks to a youthful encounter with one o’ them folk in his native Ireland, he can’t. Instead, he’s cursed to wander eternally far from home, with the ability to see ghosts and talk to plants. Immortality means Peter has lost everyone he’s ever loved. And so he centers his life on the dead—until his wandering brings him to Harrington, Ohio. As he searches for a vengeful spirit, Peter’s drawn into the townsfolk’s lives, homes and troubles. For the first time in over a century, he wants something other than death. But the people of Harrington will die someday. And he won’t. As Harrington buckles under the weight of the supernatural, the ghost hunt pits Peter’s well-being against that of his new friends and the man he’s falling for. If he stays, he risks heartbreak. If he leaves, he risks their lives.
here are some book links
(only this time I remembered to actually link all of them)
request it on Netgalley: link to Netgalley page
add it to a TBR: link to TheStoryGraph | link to GoodReads
preorder: link to BookShop | link to Barnes & Noble | link to Kobo | link to Amazon
and here's alt text for the video
text fades in over softly blurred flowers, reading "The Keeper of Lonely Spirits, book trailer and cover reveal."
text split up throughout the trailer reads: "a ghost. a curse. a town in peril. to save an Ohio town, he'll have to risk his heart…"
as the music starts, clouds dissolve into faded flowers, a sunset field, an upward shot of trees, an overhead shot of a small town.
fade to black.
as the music swells, cut to: a swiftly ticking pocketwatch; someone walking through a forest, wearing jeans and boots; a cemetery; sunlight through the trees; a cheerful old white man in a vest.
more images flash swiftly, getting faster and faster: an old white man with a weary expression, leaning his forehead against a wall; hands fixing a pocket watch; an overhead shot of trees; a ghostly figure in a corridor; a weathered cottage in a field; an old man running with two children; a lone headstone; someone running alone in the sunset; a flash of color in the air; a young Black woman sitting on the floor in front of a couch, look sad and holding a cup of tea; two old men kissing; closeup of a man's eye with tears falling; yellow flowers; an old letter; two old men with their foreheads pressed together.
the last image lingers; one man's eyes flicker up to the other's face.
now the images slow. closeup of an old white man from the back, facing the sunlight, dissolving into a sunlit field with text over it reading, "You get used to it." the text is wiped away and replaced by different text: "I hope I never get used to being alone."
cut to: a background of yellow flowers. the cover of E.M. Anderson's The Keeper of Lonely Spirits fades in: a small cottage sitting atop a lonely hill, with smoke drifting from the chimney, surrounded by headstones, yellow flowers, and intermittent trees, with the title "The Keeper of Lonely Spirits" centered in large, yellow, sans-serif text and "a novel, E.M. Anderson" centered in smaller, white, sans-serif text below it. music is XAmbassadors' Unsteady.

I’m still thinking about the machete

For reference, this is a machete. (Pic taken from the Woodland Tools Heavy Duty Machete listing). As someone who used to sell knives as my Actual Job, a machete is pretty big! It’s not impossible to hide, but it’s big. It could probably fit in a thigh holster if you’re tall, which Jay…..isn’t, or in a back holster if you’re average height. So the machete is probably in a back holster of some sort, likely worn under his vest. They were usually sold with a holster/case of some sort, often with a space to thread it on a belt, which would work if he doesn’t care about concealing it.

This is an axe. (Photo taken from an amazon listing for throwing axes. We’re assuming it’s meant as a weapon here). It’s about as long as the machete, but weighted pretty differently. When I sold knives, axes often came in a plastic clamshell, while most of the machetes we sold came in a decently nice holster. Not that you can’t make or buy an axe holster, it’s just not something I saw as often. Typically, folks aren’t carrying around an axe for bushwhacking the way you might carry a machete. They’re not necessarily un-portable, but it’s a little less easy to whip out a concealed axe.

As a third reference, I’ve taken the liberty of copying this photo of “life size Jay Descendants cardboard stand-up” and marking where I think he could fit a concealed weapon. Not necessarily a machete/axe sized weapon, but a knife or bug spray can of Decent Size. Thinking palm sized or bigger.
We’ve got:
Two obvious vest pockets. Probably pretty small, but could fit a folding knife or a small bug spray.
Vest collar. The big fold feels like a prime location for a hidden pocket. He could fit a large knife in here, or maybe a Nintendo DS.
Hat. An obvious choice for the bug spray can. Keep those bugs away and any other secret stolen objects safe. We know he’s put things in here before because we literally see him doing it in the first movie.
a quick honorable mention for my back holster idea. I think this has the highest axe/machete potential. I think he could do it.
two standard pants pockets. We don’t know the size of the second one (covered by his vest….waist….thing) but knowing boy’s pants, they’re probably pretty big. He might be able to fix a machete in there. If he’s got a smaller axe (maybe a throwing axe?) he could definitely fit that in a standard pants pocket.
Thigh pockets? Access to a secret thigh holster where he can fit more knives? This seems like a good, likely option for bigger knives. Maybe not a full sized standard machete, because Jay is truly Not That Tall, but like, a big two handed knife? Sure.
Knee??? Pockets???? I understand that these zippers are probably there to indicate that he can zip his pants off into shorts, but in my heart he’s got little tiny pockets at his knees. These are too small to fit a machete. These are only large enough to fit isle snacks, which are small and sad because the children are starving.
okay, I know I said I’m done with the knee pocket thing, but why is there a little piece of knee armor on the right side? I can only assume it’s there to disguise a hidden pocket for thievery.
Boots. Shove some knives in the sides of those boots like we shoved our phones into our ugg boots back in 2010. Jay’s got some pretty chunky boots here, he could fit at least one knife in each, maybe two if he packs them right.
This has been hidden weapon time with blue! I still think a machete is WAY too big to hide anywhere but a back holster, but I support all of Jay’s hidden weapons and I’m mentally adding an axe to his pants in every scene now.
#I’m not sorry about this#he deserves that machete#or possibly axe#jay son of jafar#descendants#I don’t have a shitpost tag but just to be clear#this is 100% a shitpost

A little more than a week ago I finally, finally finished adding hand-sewn lacing loops to the side panel of the black jersey dress I made in October. It had been sitting on my sewing table begging to be done since roughly midwinter, and the actual process of measuring out and sewing in each of the loops was tedious and obnoxious, so even once I did get myself finally moving on it, it still took far too long to actually finish. But yay! Now it's finally done!

The dress continues to be really difficult to photograph -- on my table it looks like a fairly undifferentiated pile of black fabric, and on me standing in indirect sunlight isn't much better. But now that I can lace the side panels down completely, the dress actually fits me, so I'm finally getting a lot more wear out of it again.
And, more importantly, now that it's done I can start working on a new project.
A week ago, with about 6 weeks to go until I plan to wear it to Star Wars Nite at Disneyland, I decided to remake the Batuu Vest I made in 2024. Like I mentioned in my post about the belt I made to go with my Batuu outfit, the one from last year is both ~2" too long, and somewhere between 2" and 4" too wide through the hips. It was not playing well with the belt. But I also wasn't at all sure about trying to modify it, because the separating zipper and all the top-stitching.
Once I had the jersey dress project off my table, I pulled out my shoebox of scraps from last year's vest -- which were originally scraps left over from a dress I made in 2016. It's a medium-weight 100% linen in a lovely dark navy blue, and I really do love everything about the original vest except the fit in the last few inches, so I want to try to reproduce it as closely as possible. I ironed the scraps and checked them against my pattern pieces, and decided that I had enough to do a second two-layer vest out of this same fabric.

Using last year's vest as a fitting guide, I figured out that I wanted to take 2" to 2.5" off the length, and narrow each of the panels below the waist. Just like last year, I started with the lining layer, and folded 2" up at the lower edge of each pattern piece as a starting point, which let me squeeze them into even smaller scraps of fabric.
Since I know this pattern pretty well at this point (and since I transferred all my changes to my paper pattern as I made them last year), the lining layer came together really quickly. Even the bust seam that had required slash-and-spread last year just needed a ton of pinning this year, for some reason. I had all eight pieces cut out and sewn together by the middle of last week, which then let me try it on with the rest of my Batuu kit and figure out how much I wanted to take in from each of the seams.
I ended up leaving the seam between the side front and front panels alone, since it's already cut straight along the grain for stability reasons, and focused on taking out the excess width from the other panels in whatever way ended up looking best. Even at 2" shorter, I still ended up taking out between 2cm and 3cm on each seam. With five seams to work with, that's somewhere between 10cm and 15cm smaller than my one last year -- so all of that excess flaring should be gone from this version of the vest.
I marked those new seams, sewed them in, clipped off the extra, and unpicked the extra thread so I could securely tie the thread ends, then transferred the new measurements to my original paper pattern, so I could cut out matching pieces for the exterior of the vest. With just a little bit of non-machine work here and there over this last weekend, that got me to this point as of this morning:

I also ordered a second separating zipper (2" shorter than the original) and a second pack of the cool hooks-and-bars that I used on the original vest -- and thankfully I got both from Amazon last year, so it was easy to find them again in my order history. If I'd gotten them from JoAnn's in 2024 I would have had to completely re-source them lol.
This morning I drafted a really basic pattern for the little internal patch pockets that I put on the first vest -- either I never actually patterned the originals, or the tiny rectangle of pattern paper fell out of the rolled up pattern sometime in the last year. I think it's the former, but either is possible. I got two pockets cut out and set aside for when I have my iron out next, and then got started on cutting out the exterior pieces of the vest. As of sitting down to write this post and have some food, I have 5 pieces cut out and 3 left to go.
We're at just under 5 weeks now until we go back to Batuu, and really I should have this all done no later than 4 weeks from this Friday, just to make sure that I'm not stressing Jack out with last-minute sewing, lol. I made the original vest in less time, while also working on the shirt to go under it and Jack's jacket as well, and that required a lot more fiddling with the fit than this one will from this point forward. I'm going to have to re-read all my posts on putting the zipper in, since that was so mind-bending with all the layers and asymmetry, and I know the top-stitching felt like it took forever, but at this point I'm feeling confident about getting this second version of the vest done in time to wear it. And hey, worst comes to worst, I can always wear the original version of the vest instead.

Daddy, I don't care that there's A blockade to Amazon. What is an embargo?! Is it going to keep me from getting fat or battling spiritual weight from whores who fuck my soulmates? So tired of cougar weight. Daddy, just give them the raise. And the meal breaks. They're people not robots. I'm horny.

Plsss if anyone has links to sensory friendly clothing or weighted vests or good ear defenders send them 2 me
I've been looking everywhere and I refuse to use Amazon
I feel like for every ten small businesses that make autistic/sensory safe clothing there’s like 1 that makes medically accessible clothing. You can get noise muffling from headphones instead of having it built into a hood. I, however, have to go to the disabled bathroom and take off my fucking pants to clean, brace, and topically medicate my joints, and that’s only one thing I have to do.
We need more affordable medically accessible clothing. If someone knows of a brand that sells that stuff please god reblog this and give me a link.

I passed the first leg of the firefighter application.
In a month, I have to be able to crawl with half my weight, and then also with that same weight and a dummy that weighs more than I do.
Everything else is easy. It's this I am worried about.
I guess I should go back to bulking and doing like 100 pushups a day.
Update: I can only do 30 pushups in one go. Haha, uhoh. Well, I can work on it. I've been sitting fallow for like three months.
Update 2: Looking for weighted vests on Amazon makes me feel like Alana and Kel. Hrm.

Don’t underestimate the value of your body weight when you’re training at home. You don’t need a squat rack and bumpers to build strength and challenge yourself. All you need is a little know-how and some calisthenics equipment. Calisthenics requires you to move your body weight through exercises like pull-ups, push-ups, dips, or static holds. But even a lunge workout can be calisthenics if you’re training with your body weight. So if you’re ready to see the functional strength benefits of calisthenics, here are some accessories that’ll help you get started. 1. Relife Dip Station Since these stands are separate instead of joined as a unit, you can adjust how far apart they are to fit your body comfortably. They’re perfect for dips, push-ups, L-sits, and inverted rows. The base of each stand comes with adjustable foot covers to prevent shaking on most surfaces. Get it on Amazon. 2. Body Power Paralettes These parallettes are perfect for practicing handstands, V-sits, static holds, and planche progressions. They’re easy to place where you need them depending on how your body feels comfortable during certain movements, and you can tuck them away in a closet when you’re not training. Get it on Amazon. 3. Sportmediq Pro Grade Liquid Chalk If your grip is your limiting factor, there are ways you can improve your grip strength over time — but you may need something to help in the interim. That’s where this liquid chalk comes in, allowing you to hold the rings or bar tighter without slipping. Get it on Amazon. 4. Pacearth Gymnastics Rings There are seemingly countless ways to use gymnastics rings to work out using your body weight. If you can’t quite do pull-ups, this piece of equipment can help develop the lat and back strength necessary to conquer that exercise. But you can also use them to make specific movements, like bodyweight dips, more challenging by requiring extra stability. Get it on Amazon. 5. DMoose Weight Belt With Chain If you want to take your progress even further with weighted calisthenics, weight belts like this let you add extra resistance to exercises like dips and pull-ups. Just be sure to secure the weights to the chain properly for your safety. Get it on Amazon. 6. Synergee Resistance Loop Bands Ideally, you’re just using your body weight during calisthenics, but you might need help working up to that point in moves such as the pull-up and chin-up. These resistance bands can help, lightening your load so you can build the strength you need to perform these challenging bodyweight exercises with perfect form. Get it on Amazon. 7. Sportsroyals Power Tower If you’re serious about training with your body weight, look no further than this one-stop-shop piece of calisthenics equipment. It’s outfitted to support pull-ups, dips, incline push-ups, isometric holds, and even ab exercises. Get it on Amazon. 8. CAP Barbell 20-150 LB Adjustable Weighted Vest There is always a way to progress a bodyweight exercise to make it harder. Another option: Throw on a weight vest. This one from CAP Barbell allows you to adjust the load from 20 to 150 pounds by adding or removing weight packets filled with iron ore fines, making it perfect for increasing the challenge in exercises ranging from squats to dips. Get it on Amazon. 9. Prosource Fit Pull-Up Bars You don’t need space for an extensive setup to work on your pull-ups during home workouts. This pull-up bar hooks securely into your door frame so you can get in a set at any time. You can also use it on the ground for elevated push-ups and dips. Get it on Amazon. 10. Foldable Free Standing Pull-Up Bar Stand A basic pull-up bar won’t cut it if you’d like to try the calisthenics movements that are also gymnastic exercises. This pull-up stand sets up in a triangle, so you have room to perform movements around the bar. It also doubles as a mount for your gymnastic rings. Get it on Amazon.

I nibbled at my lip as I browsed the Amazon wish list that Peter had made for me, titled HONEYMOON FOR MY SWEETHEART. He had carefully selected stylish and comfy articles of clothing for me to buy, choosing different hues of greens with bits of blues sprinkled in.
I scrolled to the bottom of the list and promptly turned bright pink at the sexy lingerie set that he had added in a soft sweet green color. I also added bright poppy turquoise colored lace to my shopping basket and then went to check out.
I checked out, turning to where Peter was doing his rehabilitating workouts with the babies as weights. Even now, he still couldn’t stand for long periods of time and was currently about to graduate from using a custom made cane tuned to his height and weight, but if there was one word to describe my husband’s work ethics, that word was determined.
He hadn’t said it out loud, but I could tell that he was itching to get back into shape so that he could protect his family from those intending to do harm onto us. While I was appreciative of his role as the family protector, I understood that he had been gravely injured and that he now needed to fully heal before he could honestly do anything else.
Peter had told me that Type O Negative was going to go on tour in November and that he wanted the entire family- myself, Baby Tommy, Daisy, Elizabeth, Elle, Katie and Jing- to accompany him. He had told me that the band manager was looking into hotels for the family to stay in while the band went on a six week tour of the east coast, to which my response had been that I would need to make arrangements for the girls to be homeschooled and for the house to be looked after in our absence.
The Ratajczyk family patriarch had told me that the band would be hitting up to five cities a week, and that by the end of the tour, Type O Negative would’ve visited thirty three cities. He had given me a rundown of where our stops would be. I was so excited- Salem, Boston, Philadelphia, Charleston, Baltimore, Savannah, Myrtle Beach…
“We are going to have so much fun,” I giggled the night before while we were curled up around each other. “Do you want me to call up Adam and ask him if the twins can come with?”
Peter’s face glowed with happiness as he tugged me to lay on top of his burly chest as he peppered my face with kisses.
“I love you.” KISS “I love you.” KISS “I love you.” KISS “I love you.” KISS “I love you.” KISS “I love you.” KISS “I love you.” KISS “I love you.” KISS
“I love you, my handsome silver daddy,” I giggled, cuddling into him as a late night infestation of bedbugs swarmed the bed. “Hihi kids.”
“Mamamamamama…” babbled Baby Tommy as he awkwardly crawled up to us before falling into my pillow and snuggling into the sleep aid. “Mamamamamama…”
“To what do we owe this late night visit to?” Peter rumbled as he opened his arms for the kids to come in and tuck themselves into his side.
“Little girl wouldn’t stop whining,” Elizabeth explained, tugging the adorable two year old girl and Elle into her side and rolling onto her back.
“Poor little girl,” Peter crooned, allowing her to crawl up onto his as well. “Is your baby anxiety make it hard for you to sleep?”
“Papa Pete,” mewled little girl as she settled down for sleep. “Papa Pete. Papa Pete. Papa Pete. Papa Pete. Papa Pete. Papa Pete. Papa Pete. Papa Pete.”
“Little girl’s baby PTSD will pass soon enough,” I told the family as I began to gently stroke her chubby leg.
“Oh!” Katie gasped, sitting up suddenly. “Before I forget…” She tore off out of the bedroom, leaving me and Peter to exchange glances. She returned about five minutes later, holding a neatly wrapped parcel, which she handed to her baby sister. “Happy birthday little girl, from Lizz Lizz and me!”
The already spoiled birthday girl happily tore into her present, unwrapping a little cloth dollie. Much like Baby Tommy’s mini me, it was carefully hand crafted in light brown cotton fabric for the skin, with dark red yarn for hair and a petite white diaper and bright pink t-shirt.
“Mee mee!” squealed little girl as she hugged the plush toy tight to her chest. “Mee mee!”
“Liddle gurl?” Baby Tommy asked, holding up his own well-loved plush toy. “Baabee Tom Tom? Liddle gurl? Baabee Tom Tom?”
I giggled as I watched the babies comparing their favorite toys before they settled down for bed, cooing as they held each other’s hands.
“Sweet babies,” I cooed, settling myself down for the night. “Goodnight my love.”
“Goodnight sweetheart,” he chuckled in a deep rumble.
“See you in the morning.” I settled my ear against his chest and drifted off to sleep listening to my favorite sound.
