Hey, so both my father and my FIL are skin cancer survivors, so in addition to the advice above:
Please wear sunscreen, even on cloudy days, anytime when you're going to be in the sun for more than 20m to half an hour. This includes being in a car! Car windows are UV-blocking to an extent but I did get a sunburn on my hands driving down to SF last year for my wife's surgery. While you can buy sunscreen with an SPF up to 100, anything over 50 is probably not functionally different, and costs a lot more. Bullfrog is really good; it's been my favorite brand since I was a kid.
Please wear hats! Scalps burn and scalp burns are wretched. A good hat will cover your ears and the back of your neck. There's a reason white people wear bucket hats and it's not just because some of us have no damn fashion sense. My dad had the majority of his scalp taken off and skin grafts done due to skin cancer. Do not fuck around with scalp burns, friends.
Yes, your fingers and toes can burn. Put sunscreen on the tops of your feet if you're wearing sandals, put it on the backs of your hands. If for no other reason, do it because the skin on your hands gets neglected and it'll make you look older faster if your hands 'look old.'
It's super important once you're 40 or so to have a dermatologist check you over once a year, especially if you've ever had a 2nd degree sunburn (a sunburn where your skin blistered/bubbled). 2nd degree sunburns hugely raise your skin cancer risk. It'll be a mildly annoying appointment where you wear a lil paper gown and the doctor checks your entire body and kind of makes a record of any moles, and then compares it to last year. You still need to check yourself monthly, and have someone else look you over anywhere you can't see yourself, but if you just go once a year and schedule your next appointment when you finish your current one, you'll be in good shape.
I hope this isn't out of line, and if it is, I apologize. I just know this is the kind of stuff that I got drilled into me by my family and my family doctor since I was young due to being pale unto translucence, and skin cancer is so so so wretched, I would not wish it on my worst enemy.
#skin cancer terrifies me#my dad survived stage 3 skin cancer#my FIL is a skin cancer survivor too#please wear sunscreen#please wear hats#please please please get your skin checked yearly starting at age 40

ally!! oh my!! i’m so glad you’re feeling better! heatstroke is no joke and sun poisoning is the worst. (this is why i’m a autumn/winter person myself haha) but take your time and we’ll be here !!
🥤
Ahhh Hello My Dear Smoothie Anon!
Thank you so much! I am finally feeling better thank goodness! I was so angry that my body shut down on me like that (especially since I basically did it to myself and should KNOW BETTER by now I've lived here for six years) I had plans this weekend!! I was supposed to do social things in addition to writing! Annnnd instead I did none of that RIP. I LOVE autumn that is my happy time! The winters were I live now aren't bad but I hated them growing up - I am NOT a snow person omg (I basically moved to the surface of hell to get AWAY from the snow lol I may have over compensated) But yeah it wasn't full on like "go to the hospital your innards are cooking" heatstroke but that more unfortunate and common mild version where you just feel like shit and can't cool down. And then you feel like shit so you don't eat and it's a horrible cycle. RE: sun poisoning though omfg that is the actual worst thing ever I actually ended up in the ER with sun poisoning when I was a kid one time (my poor parents were beside themselves) and now I am like the sun protection police. I live in a very hot sunny place and I wear long sleeves all summer, I have an extensive collection of wide brim hats and I will be reapplying 80 SPF sunscreen every 60 minutes. I also will find the smallest sliver of shade possible and will hide in it. I am not fucking around when it comes to the sun. HOWEVER, I still managed to get myself over heated and greatly paid the price 😞
Thank you so much for the kind message and the well wishes! I apologize once again for being dramatic and not having any of the promised updates ready :( Hopefully I can get us back onto our regularly scheduled programming soon!
❤️Ally

Lifestyle habits that can help you to prevent cancer?
Cancer has become a concern owing to its far-reaching consequences. When I was going through a lot of research done on cancer and the types of cancers I got to know about certain healthcare professionals who firmly claim that cancer cannot only be cured to the fullest but can also be prevented just by the change in lifestyle and habits. Well! It took me time to be convinced by their claims then I went through the ways of treatment they adopt and also listened to the reviews and the claims of the patients who confirm the words of the medical practitioners. They argue that Ayurveda is a repository of knowledge that can help to prevent all kinds of diseases. Why should we wait to get treatment? It is wise to work on lifestyle and health habits so that we can control any fatal diseases like cancer. So, the current blog will throw the limelight on the health habits that can help to prevent cancer, The earlier they are adopted better they are:
Regular Physical Activity: A sedentary lifestyle is the major cause of many diseases. It has caused diseases like obesity, hypertension, anxiety, and numerous physical and mental diseases. So, it is wise to aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity exercise every week. Exercise promotes a healthy weight and lowers the risk of certain diseases, such as breast and colon cancer.
Healthy Diet: you become what you eat, so it is very crucial to maintain a healthy diet. Try to consume an organic and antioxidant-rich diet. A healthy diet includes fruits, vegetables, entire grains, and lean proteins. Limit processed foods, red meat, and sugary beverages. A diet rich in fiber and antioxidants can help lower the risk of different malignancies.
Quit Smoking: smoking is not only injurious to the active smokers but it is also injurious to the passive smokers or small kids. Smoking is most harmful to pregnant ladies and kids, as they are too vulnerable to diseases. If you smoke, quitting is one of the most important things you can do to avoid cancer. Smoking is the major cause of lung cancer and has been linked to other cancers such as throat, mouth, and bladder.
Limit Alcohol: A small change in your lifestyle can be your life's savior, talking of alcohol is harmful and injurious to your health. Excessive alcohol consumption has been linked to an increased risk of numerous malignancies, including breast, liver, and colorectal cancer. If you choose to drink, do so moderately. It is a root cause and breeding ground for many life-threatening diseases.
Sun Protection: To protect your skin from the sun's harmful UV rays, use sunscreen with a high SPF, seek shade, and wear protective gear such as hats and sunglasses. Avoid using indoor tanning beds, which might raise the risk of skin cancer.
Maintain a Healthy Weight: Aim to keep a healthy weight by combining good food with frequent exercise. Being overweight or obese increases the chance of developing a variety of cancers, including breast, colon, and kidney cancer. Screenings and Check-ups: It is always wise to go for timely screenings and check-ups. If you have a family history of any kind of cancer or any life-threatening or blood related disorder, then it is wise to go for timely screenings and check-ups. Maintain frequent screenings and check-ups as directed by your healthcare practitioner. Screenings can help detect certain cancers early on when therapy is most effective.
Practice Safe Sexual Behaviour: Safe sex can help minimize the risk of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) like HPV, which can lead to cervical and other malignancies. It is confirmed from the reports that people who have multiple partners or practice unhealthy sexual habits are at a greater risk of cancer.
Limit Your Exposure to Environmental Toxins Keep an eye out for environmental hazards like asbestos and radon, as well as chemicals found in pesticides and household items.
Whenever possible, make efforts to reduce exposure.
Control Stress: stress has become an inseparable part of our lives, as we know that excess of everything is bad, so it is pertinent to control stress levels and anxiety. Chronic stress can impair the immune system and cause inflammation, increasing the risk of cancer. Find healthy stress management techniques, such as exercise, meditation, or spending time with loved ones.
Tips and tricks of Ayurveda to prevent cancer:
These days people are resorting to the old and traditional method of living life and preventing diseases. Ayurveda is also a hub of knowledge that firmly assures the prevention of many fatal diseases like Cancer just by changing lifestyle.
Ayurveda highlights the significance of eating a balanced diet based on your body type (Vata, Pitta, or Kapha). Consume a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seeds, and spices to boost your general health and immunity.
Turmeric, a spice popular in Ayurvedic cookery, includes curcumin, a potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant compound. Turmeric may help to reduce inflammation and protect against certain cancers.
Triphala, a traditional Ayurvedic herbal formulation composed of three fruits (Amalaki, bibhitaki, and haritaki), is renowned for its purifying and rejuvenating effects. It can aid in digestion, detoxification, and immune system function, all of which lower the risk of cancer.
Lifestyle Changes: Ayurveda highlights the importance of lifestyle variables including regular exercise, enough sleep, and stress management in maintaining overall health and preventing disease, including cancer. To aid your body's natural healing processes, exercise regularly, get enough rest, and engage in soothing techniques like yoga and meditation. Detoxification: Ayurveda suggests periodic detoxification or cleansing methods known as Panchakarma to eliminate accumulated toxins (ama) and restore the body's balance. Panchakarma therapies such as oil massage (Abhyanga), herbal steam therapy (Swedana), and nose cleansing (Nasya) can aid in toxin clearance and overall health.
To summarize, the importance of adopting healthy habits for cancer prevention cannot be emphasized. Individuals can dramatically reduce their chance of acquiring cancer by adopting habits such as eating a balanced diet, exercising regularly, avoiding tobacco and excessive alcohol consumption, protecting against environmental pollutants, and managing stress. Furthermore, using ancient approaches like Ayurveda, which focuses on holistic well-being and natural therapies, might supplement current preventive strategies. Finally, fighting cancer requires a holistic approach that covers both lifestyle variables and individual health needs. Empowering people with knowledge and tools to make healthy choices and prioritize their well-being is critical to promoting long-term health and lowering cancer's impact on individuals and communities alike. If you wish to consult about any blood-related disorders or cancer you may consult Kingman Oncology, an institute armed with a team of professionals, The institute possesses an in-bit built pharmacy for the convenience of the patients.

EVENING WEDDING ATTIRE TRENDS FOR MEN
If you're a guy who finds himself clueless about the "science of dresses," particularly when it comes to choosing the right outfit for various occasions, this article is tailored just for you. It's common knowledge that you can't simply throw on an orange shirt and blue pants for a wedding. In this guide, we'll navigate the complex world of wedding attire, focusing specifically on evening weddings. Whether you're the groom or a guest, Royal Menswear is here to assist you in selecting the best suits in HSR Layout, Bangalore. Let us help you decipher the intricacies of wedding suit options, ensuring you look your best on that special day, be it your own wedding or someone close to you.
WEDDING ATTIRE BY DRESS CODE
At certain weddings, couples may opt for a coordinated dress code, while others leave attire choices entirely to individual preferences. Discover a range of outfits suitable for the upcoming wedding celebration and consider the best suits for men in Bangalore that you can plan to wear to the event.
Creative Black Tie Men’s Attire
Although the guidelines are flexible, Creative Black Tie keeps the wedding atmosphere relatively formal. Although a tux is still the preferred option, you can also experiment a little. Dinner jacket options, such as a contrasting jacket with black tux pants, are fantastic options. Patterned or subdued-colored neckties and bow ties are acceptable. For this attire, a vibrant suit is also acceptable.
Cocktail Wedding Attire
Imagine you’re heading out for cocktails in business casual dress. It will appear that you came straight away to the party from your office without changing. A medium-dark suit is typically the finest option for cocktail wear, which is a flexible dress code that covers all your bases. A punchier necktie, an eye-catching pocket square, or some killer shoes might add a bit more personality to this suit than your typical 9-to-5 getup.
White Tie Attire For Men
As it is formal attire, you should wear a jacket with tails and, potentially, a monocle on your eye (kind of kidding). Although our version below comes close to meeting the requirements, you should probably seek stylist advice if you receive an invitation to a White Tie event.
Casual Men’s Attire
Even though the term "casual" on a wedding invitation might be confusing for those unfamiliar with dress codes, most adults understand that shorts or denim are not appropriate choices. When it comes to men's casual wedding attire, it's essential to opt for dress pants paired with a blazer, or preferably, a suit with a dress shirt and dress shoes. Given the significance of weddings as special occasions, a "casual" look should strike a balance, providing a laid-back feel while still acknowledging the importance of the event. Consider the best suits for men in Bangalore to ensure you achieve the perfect blend of style and appropriateness for the occasion.
No Dress-code
We firmly advise giving the guests a dress code if you are the one organizing this event, so they may be prepared. If you’re a wedding guest, try to wear something that does not catch everyone’s attention from an awful shock. A tuxedo might be too formal, so choose an outfit that falls in between business casual and cocktail clothes. You might also look at the wedding location for suggestions on what to wear. +Complimentary hues, and, complete the look.
Men’s Summer Wedding Attire
While SPF typically stands for Suit Pants-Free, it's important to note that it actually stands for sun protection. In the summer, when safeguarding yourself from the sun's rays, consider opting for a light-colored suit or a white dinner jacket. Embrace a breezy and relaxed look by skipping the socks and introducing texture to your ensemble with accessories crafted from chambray, linen, or seersucker. For those seeking the perfect summer style, explore the best suits for men in Bangalore to elevate your wardrobe for the season.

Beach Day: AOT Version
Okay so I have a few ideas lined up for my next posts (including requests and a part 2 for this) so I'll try to pump those out! I'm still working on my Eren series but I'll post those after these few.
Also everyone is in one big friend group in those bc I said so
Eren Jaeger
he's one of those white guys that tans really easily, but he still gets a little burnt
wears those fitted 5" inseam swim trunks with no shirt, not the loose shorts that go to the knees
people will stare at him for sure, but he has on thing on his mind: the best spot to set up
once he helps you (and the group) set up, he's heading for the water
regardless of what kind of bathing suit you decide to wear, or just outfit in general, he'll be all over you
connie ropes him into being buried under the sand and he falls asleep there
gets into silly competitions with Jean and Reiner like making sandcastles
wants to nap a few hours in and will tap out asap
honestly really fun to be around at the beach
Jean Kirstein
I already said this for Eren but it applies for everyone, everyone will be staring as soon as they all show up
Jean has the same style shorts as Eren with a white button down, but unbuttoned and has nice sunnies
brings everything that you may need, including ten pairs of underwear even if it's a day trip
he and Eren will scope out the best spot to set up
brings his sketchbook and various mediums so he can unwind and illustrate the scene in front of him
since I see him as being a sap and romantic at heart, he for sure paints you candidly and all of his friends
goes on yelp to find the best restaurants beforehand, especially hole in the wall places
wants to match with you but lowkey, like matching colors or complementary colors
he doesn't get too tan, but he doesn't burn easily, but that's probably bc he slathers on that spf every two hours
Armin Arlet
Armin and Eren went together to get their trunks and they both liked the design so much that they decided to math <3
I can also see him wearing a t-shirt, whether it's a cotton one or a swim shirt
Jean and Annie make sure he puts on sunscreen bc he burns, and it's so bad that someone brings aloe gel for him in case he forgets he does
brings a stack of books to read when he's not in the water and he finishes all of them
wants to go collect seashells either with or for you, Sasha went with him for a bit but stepped on one and quit
begs everyone to stay long enough for the sunset and they all end up thanking him
brings lots of popsicles and water bottles for everyone and devours every popsicle he has
I think he overheats pretty easily so he lays down on your towel every now and then
wants to try to do those fun lil designs that people do with sunscreen, it works 1 out of 10 times :(
Connie Springer
wears the longer trunks with a goofy ass design like something from sponge bob or if he's bold enough, a speedo
he tans the most but it's unintentional like Eren actually may lay out in the sun sometimes but Connie never does
ropes everyone into some kind of game, usually volleyball or chicken
brings all the alcohol with Porco and the weed is brought between him and Eren, but it's mostly Connie's
will be all over you the second you settle down, but doesn't want anyone else to make heart eyes towards you
grabs you and runs towards the water, if you're not comfy with that then he'll bother you in another way like how little kids always bother their moms LOL
wants you to put his sunscreen on for him so bad and will moan obnoxiously loud for no reason at all like pls kick his ass but he'll put yours on for you so he's fine ig
falls asleep on the sand like maybe he was on the towel at first but he rolled off and Jean and Sasha buried him in sand, they also drew a dick with sunscreen on him LMAOOO but he flaunts it
when he's coming back from the water or from wherever he ventured off too, he'll approach you like it's the first time you've met and flirt with you just to see you all flustered

What It's Like Being a Goth in Florida
From time to time, folks who hail from colder climes will message me offering pity for the poor darkling stranded in The Sunshine State, or to simply inquire as to what herculean efforts I must undertake to avoid being burned to a crisp. These concerns are entirely fair and understandable - even I would never have guessed that a goth could survive in Florida prior to relocating here. I assumed my world was about to become profoundly limited and that I'd be the only shadow scurrying about in a futile attempt to dodge the sun, heat, and humidity. So, without further ado, here's something of a Goth Survival Guide to Florida. (Abridged edition.)
Sun & heat. Yes, those are a powerful pair of adversaries for any who dress the dark, especially in more southerly locals such as La Pascua de la Florida. First, you have to understand that most folks who live here have adapted to the heat and humidity to some degree - some quite a bit, others less so, but all of us more than someone visiting for a week from, say, Toronto. So the heat a northerner feels is much worse than the heat we feel (for example, I'm perfectly comfortable at 80 degree Fahrenheit, as long as I'm not in direct sunlight). Nevertheless, even those goths born here don't generally go outside during the day in the summer. However, it cools down quite a bit at night, and that's when you'll see us out and about. During the day, air conditioning is your bestie. Your home, car, and work will all have it and it will be blasting. We dash from one AC source to another during those dog days of summer, but that's just how it is here. I used to live in Minnesota and my life there was reversed - I'd stay inside all winter - so, pick your poison.
The beach. Yes, folks will try to get you to go to the beach. My advice? Spit in your hand and slap them. Kidding! I just say, "No, thanks," and tell them that the beach just isn't my thing. Which it isn't, so not even lying - I'm more of a forest kind of person. I've come across goths that like the beach at night, which is understandable. The temperature cools significantly once the sun sets and those pesky crowds also clear away. Perfect time for a small gathering around a little fire. Few drinks, good conversation, perhaps a ghost story or two. Not too bad, actually.
Clothing. Do I mostly wear black? Yup. Even in summer? Yup. The trick is to wear lightweight fabrics. Again, I'd never subject myself to the daylight during August, but once the sun sets, it gets much nicer. Goth gals still look lovely in light, breezy, black summer dresses and goth guys still look sharp in light black slacks and t-shirt. No one needs to break a sweat. Now, if you have to go out during the day in the summer, which sometimes just can't be avoided (graveyard photo shoot), be sure to wear a wide brimmed hat, slather on the SPF 100 sunblock, drink plenty of water, and try to stay in the shade. Personally, I've reached the point where nothing - absolutely nothing - drags me out of the AC in the summer during the day. Funeral for a friend? I'll send my condolences regarding his death. My co-workers wedding? I'll send my condolences regarding his death.
Critters. 'Aren't mosquitos attracted to dark colors?' Yup. 'So...aren't you plagued by mosquitos?' Oddly, no. 'What about poison ivy? What about Florida Man? Don't you live in terror of The Florida Man? And Skunk apes? And gators?' The flora and fauna hazards of Florida have been much less of an issue than the media had lead me to believe. Mosquitos certainly thrive here and I do get stabbed by one from time to time, but no more so than in other states I've called home. In fact, alligators, poison ivy, Florida Man, alien abductions, and skunk apes have all had minimal impact on my life here. I didn't say zero - just minimal.
Harassment from non-goths, i.e. The Normies. I genuinely thought I'd never see another darkly inclined person again when moving to Florida, but I was pleasantly surprised that not only are there goths here, but there are many goths here. One benefit of a large goth population is that the normies are accustomed to seeing us. They may not understand us, but at least they're used to us being part of the landscape. Thus, I've never been harassed or even lightly teased about being goth here in Florida. People don't even stare. I think they view it as just another character aspect, like being a sports fan or a serial killer. Additionally, many normies here are remarkably well informed about local goth culture. They usually know about the local goth clubs & sometimes about local goth bands. Many of them have even gone to the local goth clubs - for sure as a novelty lark - but they usually say they had a great time and would love to go again. Refreshingly different attitude from the people in some other places I've been.
Goth activities. "Do goth bands even play in Florida?" Wow, do they ever! I legit go to more shows here than even when I lived in LA. Bands playing for the first time here always say they're surprised at the large number of enthusiastic folks at the show and bands frequently return year after year, so as far as live music goes, we have an embarrassment of riches. If there's no live music going on, you can always head to a goth club for music and dancing on the weekend. Plus, there are various non-music events that usually interest most goths like horror conventions, vampire balls, oddity markets, etc. Just a couple weeks ago, I had to decide if I'd go to the Florida Bat Festival or a horror convention, so sometimes there just isn't enough time to do everything you'd like to and you have to pick and choose. (I went with the horror convention.)
So as you can see, no need to worry about the poor goths under the pitiless, Florida sun. We're managing quite well, actually. Because even in The Sunshine State, the sun does still set.
And the night belongs to us. 🦇🖤🦇

||The Pastas At The Beach||
this was originally like an entirely different post but ehhh this ways better!
disclaimer Im setting this like, at a beach with a boardwalk and such next too it? Public beach, small time vacationing!
and that they conviently like..pass as human
I hope you guys enjoy!! remember too check out my announcement board!
taglist: @frozensriracha @creepy-bi-day @capricornartistsstuff @krayolacolor
Jeff the Killer
Jeff doesn't really do much at the beach
The salt water irritates his skin and he burns easily, doesn't want too deal with it
Spends most of his time asleep
Hogs all the damn towels by sprawling out all over all of them
Gets sand over everything that they brought with them
Forgets how wind works and it gets everywhere
When its time for some of em too go get food, he always fucking goes
Wants too walk around and do something, and maybe not get blamed for all the fucking sand when everyone sits back down
He wears one of those like protective long sleeved shirts? and red swim trunks that are just somewhat obnoxiously bright
While getting the food he has a brilliant idea
Befriends the fucking seagulls
Lures them back too their umbrellas and just vibes with his bird army
atleast he's not alone anymore?
Ben Drowned
first off I know like he doesn't go swimming
but imagine if he did
his fucking goggles get filled up with blood
gets weird ass tan lines from the blood on his face like, when he's not swimming
has too wear the goggles when he puts on sunscreen-
ok ok thats it
fucker wears like mountain dew swim trunks
and those arm floatie things despite not going anywhere near the water
He tries too sit around Jeff but that gets boring fast-
Just walks the fuck off without telling anyone, on a journey for adventure
Will spend literal hours sitting underneath the boardwalk until someone finds him
After that they get him like one of thise beach toy kit things
Sally's nice enough too fill the bucket with water too, so they can make sand castles and stuff
She walks along the shore line with him, gets pretty shells too
Also if Ben were too go in the water
He's a fucking shark magnet with all that blood-
But don't tell him that, he won't come back too the beach
Ticci Toby
Toby is very excited too go to the beach
He didn't get out much as a kid
Siked as hell too get in the water
Drops his stuff off as soon as possible and runs right into the water
And thats when he realizes he can't fucking swim
Awkwardly flaps his arms around until a wave moves him along too back where he can stand
Everyones kinda confused when he comes back like "?? You were so excited, what happened?"
"I can't swim :(("
Cody volunteers to teach him right away, like the great brother he is
The thing is Cody is a horrible fucking teacher
Another few minutes of Toby getting owned by some waves and Cody just screaming stuff like
"Use your arms Toby- no not like that how I showed you- no I'm not going too help how are you supposed to learn-"
That's when Kate drags him back too shore and Doby and Brian teach him instead
In a bit he learns and ends up having a lot of fun
I feel like Toby would really like boogie boarding?
A lot easier then surfing but still a good time
Also they have too tie a red scarf around his arm so they don't loose his ass in a crowd, or in the water
Third Base
so far, Doby's the only one on this list who actually came prepared
I feel like he'd use one of those face lotions that has SPF 30 in it already?
Smart enough so he doesn't have too smear sun screen around his face, can just use the spray stuff and get going
Also has shoes and sunglasses too go with each like swimsuit/outfit he brings
Mans is put together
Really likes collecting shells and stuff
Walks with Sally, shows her how too find them
Wakes up kinda early as it is? So its easy for him too go too the beach early and find the shells before the tide pulls them back out
It's one of his favorite times, actually
The suns just rising, a few shops are opening, only a handful of people are on the beach
Does it everyday as his "alone time" before everyone else wakes up
Spends most of his time with everyone kinda relaxing?
I can see him really liking those beach volleyball games
Or just playing frizbee in the shallow water!
Really, really enjoys making sand castles
Builds a moat and everything so it stays up when the waves start coming closer
X-Virus
Cody, another kid who never got much beach expierence
But acts like he did
Buys one of those waterproof, phone lanyard things
Forgets too fucking close it properly
Doesn't have the first idea of what seagulls are like
"Oh come on buys its fine-" gets fucking owned for his cheesestick
Lowkey scared of them after that
Refuses too eat on the beach after that
Sits with ben under the board walk and curls around his chips
Spends most of his time in the water
Wants too see how far he can go before the lifegaurd calls him back
Finds it funny as shit too just slowly go deeper while grinning at them
Until a wave slaps him in the back of the head
And then he gets scared of the deepwater too
After he looses Swimming Coach privellages gets really fucking salty and sulks on the beach
Kate takes pity on him and walks around the boardwalk with him
But he also didn't know you have too reapply sunscreen after you go swimming
Gets really really bad sunburn
Jeff, Ben and Toby take turns slapping it whenever he gets too cocky
Masky
This is gonna be a Dad Tim one, fight me
Really has no idea what the fuck is going on, but still manages too keep everyone together?
Tells the same story, atleast twice a day, about the killer wave that almost took his shorts off
Gets in fights with seagulls whenever they get realitively close too the group
Also buys one of those crappy beach wagon things too put their stuff in
Buys a mug and cheesy beer koozie
Doesn't enjoy the beach that much but gets excited too go?
Ends up sitting down for most of the time unless he gets dragged on walks
Might just kinda walk until the water is at his knees and just kinda stand there, and nod a little
Giving mother nature his approval
He takes Sally out and holds onto her stomach, lifts her up over the waves whenever they come
Asks her what she can see, before he drops her back down
Tries it with Ben, gets kicked in the gut-
Favorite time is when it's dark and they go
Not for a long time, just a few minutes too walk along the shore before it gets dark
Hoodie
Designated photographer
Is supposed too be taking photos but mostly gets footage of the stupid shit that happens
Like Jeff not being able too figure out the dishwasher or Clockwork wrestling with her dresser where only half the drawers worked
Just kinda sits back and watches things go up in flames
He's the designated like playlist guy too? On the drive over, whenever he got bored just
"Hey what song should I play?"
And watches chaos ensue
His vacation is watching everyone else have a bad time
Makes up for it though, saves them a shit ton of money by making dinner every night.
I feel like he genuinely enjoys late nights on the beach, like Tim
Gets some beautiful photos of the water, and people taking walks that he's pretty damn proud of
Maybe once or twice he'll join Doby for a walk too get pictures of the rising sun

For @ephdraws who requested two different prompts that I confused and wrote as one. Oops? It’s Robin/Death from my Apocalypse Nigh Universe and they are at the beach. Chaos ensues. Literally.
Family Outings
“Exactly how long are we going to stay?” Death asks as he surveys the assortment of items he has helped Robin haul out here, along with the rest of Robin’s family.
They have claimed a strip of the beach, and given the amount of accessories and number of people in their party, he’s also not surprised the other beachgoers have given them a wide berth. He counts no less than a half-dozen coolers, enough chairs for every member of the family, with umbrellas to match, a portable playpen for the toddler, and two rolling wagons overflowing with toys and floaties.
There’s even a tent, which Teddy and Kayla are in the process of wrestling into shape while their Mother oversees and their Father marks out the perfect location for the portable grill.
“Oh, this? Well, we didn’t bring enough to camp overnight, so we’ll probably leave about nine, ten-ish,” Robin says as he spreads his towel over his beach chair and uses clips to keep the wind from blowing it away.
He’s already stripped down to his swim shorts, which are rainbow-striped, tight-fitting, and leave very little to the imagination. They aren’t Speedos, according to Robin, but Teddy had snorted and said they might as well be.
Death, by contrast, is wearing a very sensible pair of shorts that fall to his knees, and a long-sleeved water resistant shirt his sister had reassured him was meant for swimming. His contribution to the beach day trip had been to bring his own towel and a water bottle.
Clearly, he hadn’t understood what Robin meant by “small trip to the beach, just for the day, it’s pretty casual, believe me, you’ll have fun!”
This.
This is not casual.
“Esperance! Emmanuel! Get over here and get some sunscreen before you hit the water!” Robin’s mother hollers, her voice quite clear despite the noise of them apparently moving onto the beach for the day.
“And make sure you get your floaties!” Teddy shouts before he curses and digs in the sand for something he must have dropped. “Robin, keep an eye on them, please,” he throws over his shoulder.
Robin rolls his eyes, turns his head and shouts, “Opal! Watch the kids!”
“I’m busy!” Opal, Robin’s sister barks. She’s perched in a beach chair, glasses on, sunhat on, umbrella pulled low, with a book in her lap. And as Death watches, she primly inserts a set of ear buds and proceeds to ignore her entire family.
“So am I!” Robin shouts back before he smiles at Death and takes Death’s towel from his unresisting hands. “This is really your first time at the beach?”
“I have been on beaches,” Death says as he watches Robin lay out the towel and pin it into place as well. “But not to enjoy them.”
Robin rakes his hand through his hair. “What was it? Some kind of trash clean-up?”
Death does his best not to think about June 6th, 1944. “Something like that,” he hedges and waves away the memories. “Your family likes to be prepared, I see.”
“Yeah, that’s Mom’s influence.” Robin tugs Death over to his chair and urges him to sit. “She’s all about having contingency plans for her contingency plans.” His eyes narrow as he looks Death -- or Tristan for that matter -- up and down. “Dude, you are so pale. I’m going to have to slather you in sunscreen.”
Death cannot burn, but Tristan should be protected. “I didn’t bring any unfortunately. It seems I am very ill-prepared for this.”
“No sweat. I’ve got you covered.” Robin grabs the bag he’d tucked under his own chair and rifles through it, tossing out several random bottles, a book, a flattened sphere of rubber, three granola bars, and a spare pair of sandals. “Ah. Knew it was in here somewhere.”
He emerges triumphant with a bottle of something labeled SPF 50. “Are you going to wear that shirt the whole time?”
“I can’t swim in it?” Death asks. He thought he’d chosen an average, appealing shape, but he feels as though he pales in comparison next to Robin.
“Well, you can if you want to. I just thought you might get hot.” Robin grins and kneels on the beach chair behind Death, carefully balancing his weight. “But if you’re not comfortable baring that much skin, it’s fine. I should still get the back of your neck though.”
“I see.” Death obediently tips his head forward as there’s a squelch of something liquid behind him.
“Oh, and your face and your legs and your hands and the tops of your feet,” Robin continues as the first cool touch lands on Tristan’s nape and he shivers. “Then again, if you burn, I get to take care of you with a nice bottle of aloe vera.”
Death can’t burn. But he may need to pretend to.
“I would prefer not to burn,” he says.
“Yeah, fair. It really sucks.” Robin rests his hands on Tristan’s shoulder and leans around him, face inches away, smelling like coconut and sunshine. “Don’t worry. I’ll take care of you. This is going to be fun.”
Death squints into the distance, where he swears he sees Chaos approaching, with a wide-brimmed sun hat and a brightly colored beach bag slung over her shoulder. She notices him notice her and waves.
“Right,” he says weakly. “Fun.”

Sunscreen: What Everyone Needs to Know
Sunscreen: What Everyone Needs to Know
📷
As we head into summer, many people are looking forward to sunny beach days, afternoon barbeques, and relaxing by the pool. Since most of us spent summer 2020 cooped up inside, we’re all excited to get out and enjoy the outdoors.
After many grueling months of dealing with COVID-19, your mind is probably overwhelmed by all the preventative measures we take to avoid the virus. However, you shouldn’t neglect another important safety measure: sunscreen.
The sun is the source of all life, and it’s essential to our mental and physical health. The sun keeps our vitamin D levels up and plays a central role in regulating our sleep patterns via our circadian rhythm. Sunshine can also boost your mood. However, you can get too much of a good thing, and this is certainly true of the sun!
You already know that too much sun exposure can cause skin cancer. It can also damage your skin, causing premature aging, sun spots, and dryness. Extreme sunburn is not just painful – it can cause blisters and long-term damage to your skin. And since your skin is your largest organ, protecting it is essential for your overall health and wellbeing.
Here are a few tips for being sun-safe this summer.
Do I really need sunscreen?
Yes. No matter who you are and what your lifestyle is like, you need sunscreen. Even if you never burn, or have a dark complexion, or don’t spend a lot of time outdoors, you should be applying your sunscreen every day.
Sunscreen works by preventing the sun’s ultraviolet rays – namely UVA and UVB rays – from damaging your skin. These rays are responsible for sunburn. They can also cause skin cancer, pigmentation, wrinkles, and dry skin, as well as a range of other skin conditions.
Since we’re all prone to the above issues, we all need to wear sunscreen on a daily basis.
Do I need to wear sunscreen if I have a darker complexion?
A common myth is that people with a darker complexion don’t need sunscreen. As a result of this myth, there’s something called the “sunscreen gap,” where people with darker skin tones are less likely to use or be prescribed sunscreen than people with lighter skin tones.
While skin cancer is less prevalent in people with darker complexions, it can happen, and when it does, it tends to be diagnosed at a later stage. Because of these widespread myths, individuals with darker skin tones are more likely to be diagnosed with advanced-stage melanoma and more likely to die from melanoma.
In addition to skin cancer, sun exposure can also cause premature wrinkles, sun spots, and dry skin in people of all complexions. So, although someone with a darker complexion might not burn as easily as someone with a lighter complexion, everyone should take steps to prevent sun damage.
Do I need to wear sunscreen if I’m indoors all day?
What if you’re not going outside that much? Even if you’ll be stuck inside the office all summer, it’s important to apply and reapply sunscreen.
Many skin care experts advise everyone to wear sunscreen, even when they’re inside all day. UVA rays can actually penetrate through windows, which can lead to skin cancer and premature aging.
Of course, your chances of sun damage decrease significantly when you’re indoors – but that’s no reason to skip the SPF.
Which sunscreen should I choose?
If you head into any drug store or beauty store, you’ll probably be overwhelmed by the number of sunscreens available. Not sure which sunscreen to use? Here’s a quick breakdown of your options.
Pro tip: Stock up on sunscreen in winter, when it’s more affordable. They often go on sale in the fall, so you might be able to get a few at a good discount.
Which SPF should I use?
You should opt for an SPF of at least 30, preferably more. Products with a higher SPF tend to be stickier, so you might be tempted to go for a lower SPF – but don’t! If you don’t like the sticky texture of lotion, opt for a spray-on, powder, or gel variety.
If you’re in the sun a lot, go for SPF 50 or higher. The available research shows that SPF 100 is far better than SPF 50 when it comes to protecting your skin against sun damage and burns.
Mineral or chemical?
In general, you get two kinds of sunscreen: mineral (also called physical) and chemical. Technically, all matter is made up of chemicals, including the healthy stuff in your sunscreens, so we’re moving towards calling them organic and inorganic.
Inorganic sunscreens, also known as mineral or physical sunscreens, contain zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. These form a barrier on top of the skin to deflect UVA and UVB rays. Some research suggests they actually soak up the UV rays so that they can’t harm the skin. Most inorganic sunscreens leave a white sheen behind.
Organic sunscreens, also known as chemical sunscreens, are absorbed into the skin instead of sitting on top. They cause a chemical reaction that converts UV rays into heat so that your skin won’t get damaged.
Both kinds of sunscreen work. However, if you find that one kind is making your skin itch, opt for the other kind.
Fun fact: “sunscreen” and “sunblock” are often used interchangeably, but sunscreen tends to refer to organic sun protection while sunblock refers to inorganic sun protection. With that said, even industry experts use both terms to refer to the same thing.
Lotion, spray, gel, or powder?
Sunscreens come in so many different varieties nowadays. You get SPF in the form of regular lotions and spray-on liquids (which are great for full-body applications and ideal for wriggling kids). Gel products tend to be ideal for the face, as is brush-on powder SPF.
All of the above are fine, so you should opt for what feels better for you. If you find it easier to use a spray-on sunscreen, for example, choose that – the easier and nicer it feels, the more likely you are to use and reapply it.
And on this topic, you’ll also find that there are a lot of SPF-rich lip balms. It’s a very good idea to use these regularly to prevent dry and sun-damaged lips.
Other considerations for sunscreen
Nowadays, you can find sunscreens that are specifically formulated for different skin types. You might opt for a cheaper, drugstore-variety sunscreen for your body, and a special one for your face. You’ll find sunscreen for oily skin, dry skin, acne-prone skin, and sensitive skin.
Most sunscreens have a white-ish sheen that doesn’t totally absorb into the face, so you can also be on the lookout for those that dry on clear!
Top tips for using sunscreen
Buying a top-quality sunscreen is important – but in order for it to work its magic, you need to use it properly.
Stick to the following tips for using sunscreen:
You should reapply sunscreen every few hours. If you’re outside, reapply it at least every two hours. Inside, you can probably get away with reapplying it less often. Also, even waterproof sunscreen should be reapplied after you swim.
Some face creams and makeup have an SPF. While this can be helpful for added protection, you shouldn’t neglect your sunscreen.
Although you’d associate sunscreen with summer, it’s important to use sunscreen in winter too – even on overcast, dark days. The sun’s UV rays are constantly working, even when it’s chilly.
Layer your sunscreen properly! Organic (chemical) sunscreens should be put on first, underneath your moisturizer. Inorganic (physical/mineral) sunscreens should be put on after your moisturizer.
Use a reminder. If you forget to use and reapply your sunscreen, keep your sunscreen in a place where you’ll see it, like on your desk or by your toothbrush. You could also set an alarm on your phone to remind you to reapply your sunscreen regularly.
If you have highly sensitive skin, or if you’re still burning despite using a high-SPF product, speak to your GP or dermatologist.
How else can I prevent sun damage?
Beyond using a decent, high-SPF sunscreen, there are a few more steps you can take to be sun-safe this summer.
Limit your time in the sun
Although you still need to use SPF indoors, it’s much safer inside than outside. Enjoy your time soaking up the sun, but avoid spending all of your time outdoors every day. At the beach, pool, or park, use a decent UV-blocking umbrella for shade. Limit your time in the sun to a few hours at a time maximum, with breaks to sit in the shade.
Cover up
Although summer is the time for short skirts and swimsuits, it’s wise to cover up when you’re in the sun. Get a decent hat, a comfortable T-shirt, or robe-style coverup to wear at the beach or pool. This is especially important if you’re in the sun for a long period of time.
Bear in mind that clothing is not a substitute for SPF. It’s possible to burn through a normal T-shirt. You do, however, get special UV-blocking clothing and swimwear, which is worth the investment if you plan to be in the sun a lot this summer.
Don’t forget your eyes!
Your skin isn’t the only thing that you need to be concerned about. Your eyes can be damaged by the sun’s ultraviolet rays, which can cause both short-term and long-term damage. This is called photokeratitis, or ultraviolet keratitis.
Quality sunglasses offer UV protection. You should opt for glasses that block or absorb 99 to 100 percent of UV rays. Give your eyes a break every so often by spending some time indoors.
Drink water frequently
This is a good rule for life, but it’s especially important in hot weather. If you’re spending time outside this summer, keep a big bottle of cool water on hand. Not only is water important for maintaining the health of your skin, it can also prevent you from dehydrating in the heat. Dehydration can lead to headaches and a range of health issues.
Using sunscreen is something we should all be doing: it’s a relatively simple way to protect your health and wellbeing. This summer, be sure to grab some high-quality sunscreen and use it on a daily basis. Don’t forget to reapply it regularly, and encourage your loved ones to do the same.
Now you’re ready to go ahead and (safely) soak up the sun!

Why sunscreen is important:
Sunscreen will be your best friend on protecting your skin from ultraviolet rays. They are the UV and UVB rays, and as, we discussed before, the UVB radiation will tan and possibly burn your skin on the outer layers and shades. Uvb will penetrate your skin and dermis your skin. This is one of the reasons that you should invest in sunscreen that has both uva and UVB protection. In addition, sunscreen can help sensitive skin to stay well, protect against sunburn and sun-damaged dark spots, and wrinkles.
How to Use a Sunscreen for Tanning:
In order to tan without burning, you need to apply enough sunscreen daily.
Imagine the typical eight-ounce bottle of suntan lotion. It will remove your tanning better.
That’s why purchasing more than one bottle at a time is smart.
Put about a teaspoon on each arm and leg, at least two on your torso (front and back), and one on your face and neck will pack your tanning.
Next, remember to reapply every two hours, or when you get out of the water and towel off will dry and rinse your skin. This is where you need to experiment.
Do you know how long it takes you to burn?
For example, light-skinned people might develop sunburn within fifteen to thirty minutes in the sun it is the main reason for tanning.
If you put on a tanning oil with spf4, you will have four times that long to enjoy the sunshine before burning.
A small number of rays will still penetrate your skin to cause melanin production and give you a tan.
This is more likely if it’s not a broad-spectrum sunscreen that only blocks UVB, not UVA.
Keep in mind, that sunscreen doesn’t block a hundred percent of the ultraviolet radiation.
That’s why tanning with sunscreen works a lot.
Therefore, put on the sunscreen and layout for fifteen minutes if you have fair-skinned.
Flip over and wait for another fifteen. Then go inside and check your skin and analyses the difference.
Even with a sunscreen, don’t stay out longer than an hour total that very first time.
You might not notice any redness or difference until the evening suits you.
Which SPF Is Best for Tanning?
I also mentioned a moment ago that sunscreen without uva and UVB protection are more likely to help you tan. UVB radiations are what causes burns and skin cancer. Meanwhile, uva leads to more pigment productions but is linked to age-related skin damaged like wrinkles. Basically, for tanning purpose, use the lowest SPF you can, but limits your time outdoors accordingly. If you are concerned about the unpredictable results of tanning outside, build up a base tan by tanning indoors. Get one the best tanning lotions for fair skin to help you begin? Don’t forget your scalp can get burn. Wear a hat, or spend some time in the shade. There are easier ways to get highlights in your hairs. If you are pale, to begin with, don’t try tanning with spf4. Once, you have got a little color, you can drop the sun protection factors to a lower number. If you go on vacation o someplace closer to the equator then where you live. Choose a strong sunscreen. What kept you from burning in the high latitude might be enough where the sun us the more intense. The same is true if you go up into the mountain. Even, skiers wear sunscreen because snow a swatter reflects rays. Simply put, the best sunscreen is the one you and your kids will actually use! We recommend finding one you love and sticking with it. Aside from the brands or SPF level, there are two types of sunscreens. One with chemical and other is minerals active ingredients.
Chemical Sunscreen:
Chemical sunscreen is also like a type of you are familiar with already. They absorb the harmful ultraviolet rays before they reach your skin. While these lotions and sprays are easier to apply with into the white residue, you will need a reapply more often than you would with a physical option.
Mineral Sunscreen:
Is also called the chemical formulas. Leave with a white cast, but usually last longer than Mineral sunscreen chemical formulas. Is also called the physical sunscreen. Form a barrier on your skin that reflects or filters ultraviolet rays. He dispersed zinc oxide and titanium dioxide formulas can be more difficult to spread on your skin.

Use sunscreen with an SPF of 30:
Always wear a sunscreen with broad-spectrum UV protection of at least 30 SPF. Never use a tanning oil that does not contain sun protection. Be sure to apply sunscreen within 20 minutes of being outside. An SPF 30 is enough to block uva and UVB rays, but not so strong that you won’t get tan. Cover your body in at least a full ounce of sunscreen. Change the position of frequently. This will help you avoid the burning part of your body. Eat foods that contain beta carotene. Foods like’s carrots, sweet, potatoes, and take can help you tan without burning. More research is needed. But, some studies show that beta carotene can help reduce sun sensitivity in people with photosensitive diseases. Don’t stay outside for longer than your skin can create melanin. Melanin is the pigment responsible for tanning. Everyone has melanin cut-off points, which is usually 2 to 3hours. After this amount of time, your skin will not get darker on a certain day. If you tan past that point, you will be putting your skin in harm’s way. Eat lycopene-rich food, examples include tomatoes, guava, and watermelon. A small 2011 study trusted source found that lycopene helps protects the skin naturally against UV rays. Choose you’re tanning time wisely. If your goal is to tan quickly, the sun is the typically strongest between noon and 3 pm. keep in mind, however, that while the sun is at its strongest during this time, it will do the most damage due to this exposure. If you have extremely fair skin, its best to tan in the morning after 3 pm to avoid the burning. Is likely to increase the risk of skin cancer due to this expose. If you have extremely fair skin colors. Consider wearing a strapless top. Seek shades: Taking breaks will make it less likely for you to burn, and it will give your skin break from the intense heat. Prep, before you tan preparing your skin before heading outdoors, can help your tan last longer. Try exfoliating your skin before tanning. Skin that has not been exfoliating is more likely to flake off. Using an aloe Vera after tanning may also help your tan last longer.
Risk of tanning:
Tanning and scrub thing may feel good, and even boost mood trusted source because of the exposure to vitamin D. However, tanning still has risk, especially if you forgot sunscreen risk associated with tanning includes:
Melanoma and other skin cancers
Dehydration
Sunburn
Heat rash
Premature skin aging
Eye damage
Immune system suppression
Tanning precautions:
Tanning can be made slightly safer if you do it a very short period of time, drink water, wear sunscreen, with an SPF of a least 30 on your skin and lips, and protect your eyes and avoid the sun.
Falling asleep in the sun
Wearing an SPF of less than 30
Drinking alcohol, which can be dehydrating
Don’t forget to:
Apply SPF to your scalp, the top of your feet, ears, and other places you can easily miss. Roll over the frequently so you tan evenly without burning. Drink the plenty, water, wear a hat, and protect your eyes by wearing sunglasses.

17. do you take vitamins? yes, vit. D and fish oil daily, ideally i would have a good multi, PS, and maybe a couple other things, but i can’t afford them all right now. my minimum is a D though, since yr body really does NOT get it from sun exposure. i know it sounds silly but vitamins are basically the concrete you pour in a hole to stabilize a beam (yr food). they’re very good and they help a lot!
18. do you go to church every sunday? NO, thank goodness! i even stopped having to go with my family when i visit them.

30. who’s the last person you talked to? my housemate and i had a little conversation, but i messaged with my bff earlier and that was a real conversation.
31. favourite cut of beef? umm i really like cooking a ny strip, but i don’t necessarily have a favorite
32. last song you listened to? "fancy” as sung by bobbie gentry bc instagram didn’t have the reba version. WHICH IS UNACCEPTABLE, just so you know.
33. last book you read? my friends, i have a confession. i haven’t read an actual book in ages. i used to read A LOT and then when i got sick it was like my brain said NO THANK YOU and i just stopped. i still read loads, it’s just mostly fic or articles. that being said, i just finished i must admit i thought i’d like to make you mine by @disgruntledkittenface and it was EXCELLENT.

36. how do you like your coffee? with whole milk (and if i’m doing it myself, a little cinnamon, a pinch of salt, and a pinch of sugar)
37. favourite pair of shoes? my dog face flats (they’re bob’s for dogs, you can maybe google them) even tho they are really worn out now
38. at what time do you normally go to bed? between 4-7am. i am a cryptid, please do not look at me
39. at what time do you normally get up? between 2-5pm, again i beg you to look away and judge me not
40. what do you prefer, sunrise or sunsets? sunsets!! (SAME!!)
41. how many blankets are on your bed? 4 right now. 2 super soft, 1 electric, and 1 duvet/comforter.
42. describe your kitchen plates? the classic 70s/80s unbreakable plates, some with the gold flowers around the rim and some with the tiny olive green ones. truly i think i have only seen a plate like this break once in my entire life. i bought these at a store in nyc (i definitely overpaid BUT it was still like $20 for 6 or 8 plates that will never break)
43. do you have a favourite alcoholic beverage? a properly made sidecar is HEAVEN, ok? so good!! but you gotta use good brandy and fresh lemons and i would get one if i could go back to my fave nyc bar and have pietro (a very good bartender) make me one. but really the thing that i will always want and have difficulty turning down is champagne/sparkling wine in the style of champagne.

49. how did you get your biggest scar? i was borrowing stage makeup from a friend in another dorm before our choir performance. the door was usually propped open, and so when i left the building i sorta jogged down the steps and pushed really hard on the door with my momentum. it was NOT propped open, and I put my right arm through the glass (and knocked out two more panes with my knee and foot). the RA was training to be an EMT and helped me get cleaned up. I didn’t get stitches, but the scar is very long (maybe 3 inches). the best part of the story is that i went to make sure the choir director knew i wasn’t performing but would sit in the audience, and her response was “we don’t have time to give you sympathy.” she was having a rough year but DAMN that was an ice cold response to an injured 18 year old.
50. what did you do today that made someone else happy? hmm probably just chatting with my bff. that makes both of us happy, always.
IDK WHO TO TAG!!! who is the sort of person to answer 50 random questions?? @alienfuckeronmain maybe? how about @slowdownsugar? hmm maybe @crinkle-eyed-boo and uhh @pompomoffinland. And you, friend!! YOU who is sitting there really wishing you were tagged, I am definitely tagging you!!

Tiger getting a bad sun burn while on vacation, and bill gently rubbing aloe vera on her back. He would be all "i told you to wear sunscreen" while taking care of her. The cool liquid on her hot skin would feel so good. It would be almost erotic... bill blowing on the lotion to make it more cold and watching tiger's body react.
I love, LOVE, LOVE the ideas you guys come up with, and how you zero in on so many things I adore (maybe because I..adore…so many things? Shut up.) Anyway, Bill gently chastising tiger while simultaneously taking very good care of her ALL WHILE GRUMBLING about what a pain in the ass she is is like…one of my favourite things. I love that trope. Gentle giant acts so put out at having to care for best friend while simultaneously provides the Best Possible Care Ever and is genuinely worried but also just wants to make it clear to best friend that gentle giant does not care. But gentle giant does. He does so much. And he’s so gentle.
MY HEART THESE TWO I SWEAR.
***
You didn’t know if it was the alcohol you had drank a little too much of, or the fact that your skin just seemed to have a permanent warmth to it for the past few days—either way, you never even felt it come on.
Bill had gone on an excursion with half the group in the early morning, but not before waking you up with his head beneath the covers. You both had been up late the night before, star gazing in silence on the balcony, and after his enthusiastic efforts at the crack of dawn, you had a hard time falling back asleep after.
He wouldn’t be back until the late afternoon, so you grabbed your towel and a beach chair and headed to join the rest of the group in the sun.
You were usually so careful, applying sunscreen regularly and making sure you were covered. You had gotten quite adept at applying it to your own back, and with a friend who had gotten a little too leery on this trip all too eager to volunteer help even before you asked for it, you preferred to just try and manage it yourself. But the bartender was heavy handed that day, and the only lotion you had left with a high enough SPF was in spray form.
You thought you managed pretty alright, considering the circumstances.
It didn’t take long to realize how wrong you were.
You had fallen asleep on your stomach after a quick dip in the water, so tired from the past few days and a little too tipsy for this kind of heat. The drink had gone right to your head, and not even the scorching sun on your back was enough to wake you of the nap you desperately needed.
But you knew you had made a mistake the minute you woke up. Your throat parched, your lips dry and cracked, your head was swimming with nausea and you felt like you had a fever. Lifting yourself up slowly, you felt on the verge of passing out.
“I’m just gonna go….sit in the air conditioning for awhile,” you mumbled, “Tell Bill I’m in my room when he gets back.”
You stumbled into your room, uncoordinated and still feeling so sick, your body wracked with chills. You collapsed face first on the bed, pulling the thin sheet over you, and tried to take deep breaths. At first, it was just the deep shivers and waves of nausea that had taken hold of you. But after a little while, your entire back felt hot—burning, tight, so painful. Reaching a hand across your shoulder, you placed your fingertips gently on your skin and winced—it was scorching, and the searing pain from just the barest of touches had you gritting your teeth in agony.
You don’t know how much time elapsed, how long you stayed there on your stomach, shivering and nauseous and in pain. You just knew that when you heard the key card swipe in the door, you could have cried with relief.
“Tiger?” Bill stepped into the room, locating your crumpled form on the bed immediately, “You ok? They said you came back here hours ago…”
He walked with big strides towards you, and the minute he got a look at your face—your eyes half closed, your body still shivering, your face flushed—he crouched beside you and stroked a thumb across your cheek.
“Kid, what happened?”
“Bill I don’t feel so good,” you mumbled, and it took almost every ounce of energy you had. You closed your eyes, his cool hand feeling heavenly on your cheek, and tried to lick your lips but your entire mouth was so dry.
“It hurts.”
“What hurts?” He asked, but you just whimpered. Grabbing the sheet, he dragged it slowly down your back and you flinched, gasping. The sheet felt like fire down your sensitive skin. He stopped immediately, lifting it instead and looking under it.
“Holy fuck,” he said, his eyes wide. Pulling the sheet off gently, he deposited it back around your waist and stared at your back. It was so red it was nearly purple, the skin pulled taut and looking angry, painful.
“Tiger what the fuck, why didn’t you put sunscreen on?” He asked.
“I…” you stopped, your mouth was so dry that your tongue was swollen and it was hard to get words out, “I did.”
He stared at you, a hand coming up to rub at his jaw.
“Is it bad?” You croaked.
“Tiger, you look like a strip of extra crispy bacon.”
You couldn’t even find the energy to reply, another wave of nausea and shivers taking over.
“Yeah kid, it’s fucking bad,” He sighed, running a hand through your hair before standing to gather his supplies. He came back a few minutes later, holding a glass of water with a straw and a giant bottle of aloe vera.
“Drink,” he commanded, crouching to hold the straw to your lips. You took in a few big gulps, the coolness feeling so good on your throat, but he removed it from your mouth before you could have more. You whined, but he shushed you.
“You have to go slow kid, you probably have sun stroke. Drinking too much at once will just make you throw up,” he gently petted your hair, “You can have more in a second.”
He made you down two big glasses that way, holding the straw to your lips and making you go slow. Once you were done, he straddled your waist gently, looping a long leg over you and settling some of his weight on you. He glanced back at your legs, noticing they were just slightly less red, and shook his head.
“I’m pretty sure my ass is the only part of me that isn’t bright fucking red right now,” you grumbled.
“Don’t think I won’t be fixing that for you in a few days, as soon as you’re feeling better,” he warned, “This was really dumb, tiger.”
You buried your cheek further in the pillow.
He untied your bikini top as you winced, the strings rubbing ever so slightly over your inflamed skin. Squirting some aloe vera gel in his hands, he rubbed them together.
“Deep breath, kid,” he said, and waited for you to inhale. When you let it out shakily, he pressed his hands to your back as gently as he could but you still flinched and let go a pained noise.
“I know, I know,” he said, and his tone was much more gentle when he saw how much pain you were in. He glided his hands over your back, keeping his touch as light as possible, but you were in agony.
“I’m sorry kid,” he apologized, “I’m being as gentle as I can. This will feel better in a few minutes.”
You gritted your teeth, shoving the corner of the pillow into your mouth to bite down on. He squirted some more gel onto his hands, applying a liberal layer to your back, but every single touch made you want to scream. He shushed you gently when you started to whine, tutting you softly and murmuring words of comfort when you flinched particularly badly.
“This is a real bad burn, kid,” he murmured, blowing on the spots his hands just glided over, hoping to ease some of the sting, “You need to be more careful next time, fallin’ asleep like a bump on a log in the hot sun…”
You didn’t have the energy to sass him. He coated your back with a thick layer of the gel, rubbing the rest of it into his own hands before placing them by your head and gently easing the pillow out of your mouth. He bent to kiss your cheek, being careful not to brush the skin of your back in any way.
“Are you okay?” He whispered, and you felt his breath fan across your cheek.
“No,” you grumbled, and if you weren’t in so much pain you would have tried to throw him off. He lifted off of you, crouching by the bed and stroking your cheek. He laid a firm kiss on your lips, and it was the only thing that had felt good all afternoon.
“Stop chastising me, you prick,” you grumbled, a frown pinching your features.
“Then stop doing stupid shit, fuckhead,” he rose up, walking towards the bathroom before turning back around.
“For reference,” he said, pointing to your back, “That’s stupid shit.”
You pouted as you heard the faucet run, and he re-emerged with a soaked towel and another glass of water that he made you drink.
“Can you stand?” He asked, after you had finished. It took some effort and some of his help, more than a few pained groans along the way, but eventually he got you upright. Slinging the towel over his shoulder he bent his knees, picking you up gingerly and you wrapped your legs around his waist automatically. He walked you to the balcony, opening the door with his foot.
Making sure the lounge chair was completely shaded, he laid down slowly on it and cradled your chest to his, tucking your head under his chin. Grabbing the wet towel, he gingerly laid it on your back and you sighed, the coolness bringing relief. He looped his hands around your waist.
“You’re a real pain in the ass, you know that?” He grumbled, and you smiled on his chest.
“Listen, bud. Somebody has to make you feel useful,” you quipped.

The first moment Nora knew she was in love with Ray?
It was a company picnic. Nora had tried to be the involved, excited wife for most of Ray’s company functions but honestly she preferred to linger back and simply observe her husband interacting with all of the employees and their families. She had their daughter resting on her, her bubbly personality already showing through as she happily looked around at everything, observing with the eyes that had just recently turned her father’s shade of chocolate brown. Nora kissed the top of Tori’s head and rubbed her back. She gently did a rock and bounce to hopefully soothe her daughter into an afternoon nap.
Nora stayed in the shade under some trees, even in the fall, the sun was still brutal and Ray loved to remind her that Tori should always be wearing basically SPF 1000 even in the shade. Her too. Nora smiled. He’d always been looking out for her. From the beginning. His kindness in Jitters when she was 15 and his unwavering faith when she was an adult. He broke down every wall with then gentlest of gestures and the thought often left her breathless. She’d been in love with him for so long. Longer than she’d probably care to admit.
It all started somewhere between Zambesi and Salvation. She was free of demonic possession and now was mourning her father. She couldn’t stop screaming, it seemed like a stronger alternative to crying. Finally she calmed down in the medbay. Ray was keeping her calm, talking about different breathing techniques and she was really only half listening.
An hour had passed since she had switched to staring down at the ground. Her jacket felt suffocating, her ponytail felt too tight, everything felt constricting. She tore at her jacket and threw it off, leaving her in just a black t shirt and her dark jeans.
“Do you want something to eat?” Ray asked.
“Do I want something to eat?” She scoffed. “I scream at you for an hour and make you sit in complete silence for another and the first thing you ask me is ‘do you want something to eat?’”
Ray shrugged. “Yeah I mean, I’m sure you’re exhausted too, Nora.”
Nora stood up and realized that with reversing the affects of his nanite gun she’d probably be out of commission for several hours magic wise and she didn’t have Mallus as backup either. She was a defenseless five foot four woman standing in front of a six foot one broad shouldered man. That imbalance should scare her.
And it did.
But she also never felt safer.
“So you’re gonna, what? Feed me soup and put me down for a nap like an irate toddler?”
Ray shook his head. “You can do whatever you want. You’re free. And not just from demonic possession. I can take you anywhere you want on the jump ship.”
“Why would you do that?”
“Because you need to see what it’s like to not be someone’s prisoner for the first time in 20 years.”
“And me staying...”
“Means the Bureau will find you and you’ll just be their prisoner.”
Nora swallowed hard and looked up at him again, softer this time. “Your team will know that you let me go.”
“No I’ll tell them you beat me up. They’d believe it.”
A smile played on Nora’s lips. “You got any chili on this ship?”
xxxx
They sat in silence as Nora ate her bowl of chili. She didn’t want to try small talk. Ray was already being way too kind. He was taking every last scathing remark she threw his way.
Ray noticed her bowl was empty and immediately reached for it. “Do you want more or are you full?”
Nora stared down at the table. “I’m full. Thank you.”
Ray took it to the sink and washed the bowl and then turned back to her. “Have you thought about where you want to go?”
“Where are you heading after you drop me off?”
“Salvation, be backup for the team.”
“I’ll go with you.”
“Nora, no, what you’ll just be arrested if the Bureau shows up.”
“And if they don’t I can disappear in a temporal blind spot. It’s perfect.”
“If you say so.”
“I do say so.” Nora yawned. She hadn’t meant to.
“You must be exhausted you should nap. You can nap in my room.”
The thought threw her a bit. She knew his gesture was kind without ulterior motives but honestly she felt like she could deal if he made an unwanted advance at her sexually. But his kindness was almost too much.
“Umm...”
“If you want of course.”
“I don’t know. I’m almost afraid to sleep. Will I still have nightmares even though I’m not possessed anymore? I just lost my dad... I don’t know if shutting me in a dark room by myself will really be wise. For anyone.”
“I could stay in there with you and monitor you?”
“Watch me sleep?”
Ray blanched, realizing how it sounded. “Oh no I didn’t mean like in a creepy...”
“No it’s okay just umm that might make me feel more on edge. You could always take a nap with me? Not every day you defy your captain to save the life of some girl who tried to kill you.”
“You’re not just some girl, Nora.”
Nora clammed up. “Just umm lead the way to your room, alright?”
They laid there backs to one another. Nora couldn’t get comfortable and shuffled in bed. She couldn’t tell if Ray was asleep either but assumed her shuffling probably kept him awake. Eventually she was finally so exhausted her body shut down.
When she woke next she was curled around something very warm. She felt something else curled around her. She finally blinked her eyes open and was startled to find herself wrapped around the warm hard body of one Ray Palmer.
And because of this, she’d had the best sleep of her life.
Nora tried to pry herself from his arms and swallowed hard. She didn’t want to wake him, he seemed deep in sleep as much as she just was. She sighed and the hair on the back of her neck stood up as she felt absent fingers tracing up and down her spine. He clearly didn’t realize what he was doing consciously.
“Ray.” She nudged. He didn’t seem to wake so she nudged again and spoke firmer. “Ray.” This time he woke.
Ray realized immediately and they separated, staring up at the ceiling. She thumbed the sheets and licked her lips. Should she say something? She heard his muttered apology but it was clear neither of them meant to wrap around the other like an octopus.
“It’s cold.” He finally said after s moment.
“What?”
“It’s cold this time of year. You can’t go in that.” He gestured to her t shirt.
“I have my leather jacket.”
“You’ll need something thicker. Like wool.” Ray snapped his fingers like he got an idea and got up and left her in his bedroom. He came back minutes later with a scarf and a large grey wool coat. Nora eyed him and he opened it for her to slip into.
Nora got up and put her arms in hesitantly. Without even thinking, Ray buttoned it up for her and secured the scarf around her neck and tucked it into the coat. He tugged on it for good measure and smiled.
“Now you’re ready to disappear in Salvation. If you want.”
Nora sucked in a breath, his fingers were still lingering on her scarf and they were standing close now. She swallowed hard and stared up at him. If she were different. If he were different, she’d lean up and kiss him. It almost felt like she was putting on a coat before runnin an errand. Grocery shopping. Something disgustingly domestic. But the thought gave her a warm pleasant feeling in her belly.
Love.
Thinking about that day left Nora breathless. She must’ve been deep in thought because her husband was at her side when she came back.
“Hey, penny for your thoughts?” He asked and tucked a curl behind her ear.
Nora smiled and leaned up to kiss him. “Just thinking about the moment I knew I was in love with you?”
“Yeah? Which was?...”
“When you gave me the coat and scarf to wear before we left for Salvation.” She smiled. “Now look at us. You’re hosting a company picnic, we have a house in the suburbs... a baby...”
“Two technically, remember?” He smirked and placed his hand over her small bump. They had just started telling people. Most the Legends gave them a look of ‘again? So soon?’ But neither of them cared. Tori maybe be eight months old and Nora may be four months pregnant but they were going to revel in this dang it.
“You’re right, my mistake.” She kissed him again. “You know you’re such a hot DILF out there playing with all of the kids. Is it possible to get pregnant again while already pregnant?”
“I umm... you know I’ve never had a reason to look into that so I don’t know.”
Nora grinned up at him and whispered low in his ear. “If it was I’d demand we go home early.”
“And if it’s not?” Ray swallowed.
“I will still have my way with you before the sun goes down mark my words, Ray Palmer.”
“I hold you too that, Nora Palmer.” He pulled her in for another kiss before he was called away to play another game of soccer with some of the kids.
Nora watched her husband go back and smiled down at her sleeping daughter and continued to rock and bounce her gently. “Never been so thankful for a wool jacket, baby girl, never, ever.”
