I’m quite out of the loop and haven’t seen the special yet but… why are some Ladynoir stans saying again that they’d like to see Marinette and Adrien cheating? Is there still a lot of people in the fandom seeing the sides as separate ships? Like, do they not realize that no side of the square really died since they’re the same two people in all sides? Adrinette dating means that Ladynoir are also dating even if they don’t know? What good would cheating even bring for their relationship…

I'm uncertain if the amount of people saying this has reduced after s5 or if I've just blocked everyone saying it bc my experiences lately have been rather quiet actually 😅 Gonna go with the latter in this case.

But here's the thing because you're absolutely right, and I think a lot of people need to realize that the love square as we knew it has changed. All of the dynamics have been flipped on their head and even then, they aren't the same as before.

We now have:

Mutual friendship LadyNoir

One-sided/secretly reciprocated MariChat and Ladrien (in that the heroes love the civilians but the civilians don't know that the hero is their bf/gf)

Openly dating Adrinette

None of those dynamics were present before in the love square. Or at least not present in the way they are now. LadyNoir have both moved on from each other (and the biggest and whole entire joke/point of the show is they moved on from each other WITH EACH OTHER). The entire crux of the love square is the fact that they are the same two people, but they don't know it. The dynamics just offer different perspectives and wacky scenarios for us as the audience to see them in. They help to characterize them at a deeper level to provide a more complete picture of not only their relationship but who Adrien and Marinette are as characters.

And ya know what? After 5 seasons, things are finally evolving. S6 is going to look and feel different than anything we've seen so far and not just because of the new animation. The characters are growing up and maturing. We can't expect them to stay the same forever, and when the characters evolve so too do their relationships. There is absolutely nothing wrong with platonic LadyNoir. Adrinette dating, yes, even with the secrets, is not toxic or wrong or bad or in need of fixing. And cheating, even if they are at a technical level, still romancing each other, is a really weird and high key gross thing to want. Because we know they're the same people but they don't. Because they don't exist in a vacuum, and especially after the events of the special/s5 why the absolute hell would they cheat?

SPOILERS FOR THE LONDON SPECIAL

Adrien lost his dad and is grappling with the fact that he wasn't there to stop it. He's going to cling to everyone he has left in his life, and that includes especially his girlfriend who he literally sprinted to see. Adrien, who stepped off the train with red, puffy eyes into the arms of someone he sees as a mother figure and still teared up because of how heartbroken he was but who immediately smiled and lit up the moment he saw his girlfriend, is really gonna cheat with the girl who rejected him for literal months? While he still actively blames himself for not being there to help her in the final battle? Nothing gets the party going like immense trauma, I guess???? Definitely puts me in the mood 🙄

If this special proved anything to me, it's that Adrinette isn't going anywhere any time soon. Marinette was literally planning to sacrifice herself if she had to so he could be happy. From her pov, she is protecting him by keeping the truth from him, and regardless of how you personally feel about that choice, she is doing it because she loves him and doesn't want him to have to digest the fact that his father was a literal terrorist while at the same time digesting the fact that he's an orphan. And in more ways than one, it's because of his existence that both of his parents are dead now, even if it was their choice and Adrien himself didn't do anything directly.

Marinette is willing to sacrifice anything and everything for him to keep him safe and happy. Yes, the secret is going to be a plot point for the love square, but I feel like it's going to have the opposite effect than most people expect in the long run. Marinette herself said the secret lives with Ladybug, which tells me she's going to carry on as Marinette with him as if everything Ladybug said is true. She may question her decision the entire time, but she at her core, doesn't want to hurt him. And I think that intent is and is going to be very important moving forward through this plot.

And I think the fandom as a collective, but especially people who just really don't get it, need to accept that things have changed and the show, characters, and dynamics we have come to know and love are different now. And that's okay. Just because Adrinette is together and the dynamics are different now does not mean we can't still enjoy the other sides. It doesn't automatically make things boring or perfect or without conflict. And it's possible to have conflict in two characters who are romantically involved without having either of them cheat or having them break up. They can weather conflicts together and strengthen their relationship, and to me, that is more satisfying than 5 more seasons of will-they-wont-they. They did. And we need to accept it.

So I was rereading Beautiful Carnage last night and it got me thinking about what Pauline and Reiner’s lore would be if they were in a Modern AU. 😼 (I live for their chemistry)

HI HI!!! TY FOR THE ASK AND FOR REREADING THE FIC!!! I have so many scenarios and HCS for them in a modern AU, ty for the ask again!!

In a modern AU, I always think about them in college, so I'll go with that. I imagine Reiner and Pauline meet after he transfers from his previous university to Paradis, due to mental health issues. He was the quarterback for the football team there (I literally know nothing about football, it's just a common HC that I adopted JDJSHS plus he's a player in the school castes universe so).

In his previous college, he was much like his soldier persona, smug, cool looking, everybody looked up to him, everyone wanted to be with him (we stan a bisexual king), he had a scholarship due to his role in the team, good grades, confident, handsome and generally seemed very well put together.

Tho, we all know even in canonverse that he kept his true feelings hidden under this persona, and it eventually cracked in this AU as well. He came from a low-income family (Karina raised him all alone, after all, after the fucker of his father left them), so he had to keep his good grades and his good performance in the team to keep the scholarship. Plus, Karina (like in canonverse) pushed him towards this constructed persona without caring for his true feelings and wishes. Tho, in this version, I imagine Karina didn't want to reunite with his father but rather, wanted Reiner TO BE like his father, even tho Reiner is much more sensitive and caring by nature. I imagine his father used to be this macho type, boisterous, hypermasculine and toxic af. So Reiner wanted his mother to like him more, so he adopted into his persona what he thought would make his mother care more for him.

ANYWAY, going back, his persona cracked after so much time shoving away his true wishes and personality. His grades plummeted and his performance as well, making him lose the scholarship, and you can imagine how good his relationship with his mom became. Depression and anxiety took over. He transfered to Paradis uni to start over from scratch, new people that didn't know him and thus didn't have any expectation of him. Also, I imagine he studies Business administration or physical education.

Enter Pauline: she's the class representative and studies Psychology. She is friends with Mikasa, Armin, Jean and the whole crew, apart from Eren. Eren is her toxic ex-bf (it's a divergence from canonverse, she and Eren didn't have anything there and they were just friends and colleagues).

Eren at some point WAS good for her, building up her confidence and helping her say "fuck it" to her parents who were always travelling for work and left her alone her entire life. At some point, he became toxic and began deconstructing every good trait she had developed, breaking down her confidence, her relationships with other people and her independence. They broke up, but Eren won't leave her alone, even tho there is no chance they get back together.

Anyway, Pauline is calm and collected like in canonverse, she cares deeply for other people (hence studying Psychology and bring class representative) but she's not very easy to approach, since she is really serious, at least in this environment. Other times, she's a party animal, horny on main and has a broken humor.

They meet when Pauline finds Reiner on his first week beginning to have a panic attack, new environment, people and fear or blowing everything up again. Pauline calms him down, and buys him a coffee. Reiner is embarrassed but grateful, he takes her number with the excuse to buy her a coffee in return.

Reiner starts playing for the Paradis football team, Pauline introduces him to everyone, and everyone warms up to him pretty quickly. Reiner sees Pauline as a really cool, interesting and intelligent girl, that hides her warmth under a nonchalant persona. Pauline sees Reiner as a kind and caring guy, really intelligent and capable, even tho he's had it rough. Reiner feels he can be himself with her, like she can with him.

Drama sparks when Eren sees them getting close and starts to bother Pauline even more so, and Historia has her eyes on Reiner, her being the queen bee, so she has to have the new handsome nice guy.

They kiss for the first time when Eren ruins a party for Pauline, she goes out crying and Reiner follows, he drives them far away in his truck and they spend the night, drinking, watching the stars and talking about everything and anything, until they finally kiss.

OOOOF THAT WAS A LOT. No titans, no war, so no betrayal and everything, but their personalities are the same from canonverse, just their relationship that starts off in a better note and doesn't have so many comings and goings.

Okay, so, the only problem with this one is that I've literally seen too many to count. But the one that I'd often seen and had the most visceral reaction to were definitely the longer, well articulated analysis posts from stans that did SO MUCH bending and twisting to claim Adora being equally toxic/(and or abusive) to Catra. Which, obviously, I also spent time analyzing. Trying my best to understand what was going on. And you know what? I get it. I don't agree. But I get it. Adora and Catra grew up under the same circumstances, so yeah, they wouldn't be entirely innocent of picking up bad habits from their childhood. Realistically. Fine.

But implying that Adora is worse? Worse than Catra?

...

Anyway, I've suffered from my own self-inflicted torture in the past. I wish I hadn't spent so much time reading stan analysis the way I did, but... Here we are.

Guys. I LOVE SWIFT WIND. I FUCKING LOVE SWIFT WIND I DON'T CARE THAT HE'S ANNOYING THEY'RE ALL FUCKING ANNOYING!!!

First of all, yes, yes, yes, Swift Wind is horrendous wasted potential (surprise, surprise), and yes, of course, I'm still pissed over it. Those scenes where he's so loyal and kind to Adora, and she, having no other point of reference for a friend, much less a resourceful friend... Like, awwhh. Plus, he makes it very clear that he has his own will and isn't just mindlessly following Adora around like a god-honest horse would. He has his own agenda. He doesn't have to go into battle with Adora, and doesn't gain too much from risking his life to help her and her friends in the short term, but Swift Wind does it anyway. He's interested and invested in Adora, personally, anyway. He wants to be there for her and support her growth as a person.

And Adora deserves all of those amazing, raw, sappy, fairytale friendships!

22) Favorite part of canon that everyone else ignores?

In my experience, this is the type of fandom that cultivates, um, extreme niches, for lack of a better term. As in, literally what my blog is compared to a "stan's" blog. They're like. Different SPOP fans everywhere, so I don't truly believe that there's a portion of this show that is genuinely ignored... There's someone out there that liked even the tiniest, unimportant fraction of this show. Just got to go find them. (Hell, I know people that love, like, Tall Star specifically, out of all the other characters. Nothing has gone totally unnoticed, which is something I really love about the fanbase as a whole, despite everything).

Anyway, to keep it short, my favorite "underappreciated" parts are hm... Maybe the parts where Adora gets to explore the world around her? And not in a super plot related way. I know that the BFS goofing off so much isn't totally ignored. But I like to see that Adora especially was still learning new things everyday in canon, just like, randomly. Nothing to do with the Horde or the Rebellion. Just. She should be excited for the new world around her, dude. Those are pretty rare moments in the show, actually. Wish there were more.

She is a successful cheer coach, local media star, a Madonna stan (girlboss), she is trying to get the glee club shut down because she hates schuester (based) and to secure funding for the Cheerios(gatekeep), and the "I am going to make an environment that is so toxic" quote on its own deserves to win. In short, she is the shadiest, funniest, most mean spirited character while also being one of the most well written and I think that she deserves a win.

THIS GIRL CANNOT STOP HERSELF FROM LYING MANIPULATING ETC. Her two main character traits are 1) is a fantastic liar and 2) has to be in control. This is excellent bc she is best friends with the Doctor, famous for being a lying manipulating gaslighter and they are always trying to control each other. There’s a recurring bit where they tell each other “Do as you’re told,” and at one point the villain describes them as “the control freak (Clara) and the man who should never be controlled.” At one point she attempts to steal every single TARDIS key the Doctor owns in an effort to blackmail him into bringing her boyfriend back to life. At another point, when the Doctor is talking about mindwiping her without her consent, she grabs the mindwiping device and changes the controls so it will mindwipe him instead (that’s what we call gaslighting!)

I want to see older pros that are pragmatic, sensible, encouraging, but still possessing raw ego and confidence. And I want to see their flaws, or evidence of them learning from mistakes. We'll get it someday for Noa, but Lavinho and Prince's characterisations felt one-note to me.

Chapter 215 comes through for Snuffy on all fronts.

Snuffy had inflated confidence in his talent, and his own indispensability. You can tell, from how he approaches Barou, he's seeing himself as a younger player and wants to save Barou from the same pitfalls. He shares his insight without being preachy or insistent. But the advice doesn't really affect the King.

We all wanted to know how Ubers managed to get Barou to play nice. Guess Snuffy's tragic backstory, then him fucking destroying Barou one-to-one on the field is the answer.

A commenter on the scanlator's site points out that Snuffy has to trauma dump on Barou to get him in line, lol. True enough. But I still really like how it's presented. The same kind of hubris that Barou clings to cost Snuffy in the long run, and also claimed the life of his football bf best friend. Listen well, egoists. Girls in hot tubs: not even once. /s

I love the key message. Barou strikes me as very insecure. He's not well liked by his teammates; he's good at football, but not playing with others. If he loses football, what parts of himself are left for him to like?

I like that Snuffy's nice about it too? He shows Barou up in terms of talent and fitness, but he's not a complete psychopath... which, you know, you can't take for granted in this series. Toxic masculinity lured me in, but I stay for the wholesome moments.

On that note, thumbs up for Aiku being a bro. I stan a messy big brother figure. I hope he gets his moment later in the Ubers match. Regarding the match, that goal has to have gone in. Gagamaru's looking back at it like 😳 Barou's probably the scorer, maybe fed by Don Lorenzo? All to be revealed next week I guess!

Very unpopular opinion and probably gonna get shanked for it but I fucking hate Clara Oswald for one. Hell the only Doctor’s companions that I liked were Donna, Bill and Yaz and that’s it. We stan lesbians and sapphics in this house mkay ? And Donna is just incredible on her own. She puts the Doctor back into his place!

Martha, Amy and Rory a lil bit but you know what it is? The constant romance between the Doctor and the companions. It’s booooring… The only Doctor/companion ship I stand by is Yaz/13. Or Doctor/River but this absolute QUEEN isn’t a companion. The other ones just feel wrong for different reasons.

Clara feels so toxic and manipulative I can’t even with her. The constant pushing of Doctor/companion romance by the writers feel wrong because it’s like « hey hey look you want the Doctor to be in love ooooh so bad with almost every companion he has in a row and they love him baaaaack oooh you want it right? Riiiiight?» Like the only ones that I felt were not pushing it in my face were Yaz and River.

Don’t let me started on the Master (I refuse to acknowledge the lore in 13´s era regarding Master and the Time Lords you can’t make me.) Yes the Master is overly manipulative and very VERY flawed (hi they are a villain) BUT the Doctor KNOWS IT. They aren’t oblivious to it. And they know how to navigate that to try and get their friend back. They want to fix them. Both have eons of history and they keep dancing this devilish tango or hatred and deep down bitter love for the other. You don’t hate someone that much to want to see them again and make plans about them and all that if you also don’t love them.

With Clara however, the Doctor loved her as 11 and Clara seems to reciprocate but the MOMENT 12 appeared Clara was like nuh-uh which is why the line « you look at me but you don’t see me. » has such a heartbreaking message from 12 because he thought she loved him for who he was and not his previous face. And then Clara fucking uses his broken love for her by fucking THREATENING TO BURN THE TARDIS KEYS TO GET HER BF BACK.

Anyway this isn’t me being like « ooh you can’t ship this bla bla bla » like those terminally online scumbags. Ship what you want people, idc, have fun. It’s just my personal opinion. The group of oc is composed of many i havent introduced yet but the major ones are here i think except my Bad Guy. so keep in mind the story is cringy and bad lmao but i still like it to this day...

post apocalyptic earth where humans live under domes bc the outside is too toxic + technology evolved so now cyborgs exist + a while back some government doctors & scientists were working in a secret lab to implants animal genes w humans to make hybrids & something about genetic preservation whatever whatever. anyway.

eve is the protagonist. she's the only daughter of head doctor of that hybrid lab. it exploded 20 years ago which cause people inside that specific dome to mutate into hybrids (people woke up to agonizing pain bc their body was breaking and morphing and it wasn't made for that. josephine was one of those people ! she was a wolf hybrid :3)

we follow eve and her then group of friends until for some reasons (<==== guy who does not remember what that plot point was) the dome had to be evacuated. something about a deadly virus ? ofc as always the rich people got away first until the dome got closed off completely <3 . eve meets several people including chronos (human guy, future bf, hes a simp) maria & arthur (yes i will draw them at some point OTL) and they stick together to survive as the inside of the dome is becoming a battleground. doesn't help that part of the reason the dome was closed off so quick was that ~mafia~ (idk how else to call it, its not rly mafia tho oTL) boss stanislas was in here and has always escaped the government's assassination attemps thus far.

SO this virus slowly contaminate everyone but its slow and rots you from inside. terrible deadly soulcrushing. + stanislas is using every means he has to try to control the city & find a way out. except ex cop and also ex girlfriend jo (josephine) is here to basically kill him lol (he broke her trust & her heart and also killed a lot of people and revenge is her whole life). josephine at first is a lone wolf (haha) until she gets very badly injuried and ends up in a small alley where eve & her friends took quarters. they get her inside and find a way to keep her alive. also at this point the group has also met gabriel ! (bunny guy! he has a tragic past and i love him. hes my mary sue) and stephan ! (his not yet boyfriend who also has a tragic past and that jo feels very guilty about). gabriel used to be a test subject in the hybrid lab. he and eve used to know each other :] they are best friends now.

at the same time nath (who was supposed to be dead) shows up like hiiiiiiiiiiiii btw im here (hes one of stan's agent but when he was supposed to die he actually survived and got turned into a cyborg with special modification in his brain which makes him obey. but he did not Forget and he will fight what stan makes him do <3)

SO um after they all meet its basically just. a fight to survive and also moments where they're like. oh we're gonna die here. lets party so hard.

stan also realises he doesn't rly have a way out and dedicates himself to ending his and jo's fight for good this time which also put eve's group in danger since jo . stuck around . there are casualties which is why she feels she failed them..................

ginny and georgia ramblings remix - max baker hater edition

i've written about my thoughts on season 2 when it came out and something compelled me to rewatch it recently and i don't know why but this time around... oh my lord I HATE MAX BAKER. there, i said it. she is not a rootable, likeable or compelling character with a storyline that i care for and i for one am hoping that she's in less of the show in season 3. she's a horrible friend to ginny, abby & norah. she's not funny. she's just annoying. like in the first half of season 2 where she was still upset at ginny and abby she was literally just being a toxic person. abby was trying to make amends the whole time and she just wouldn't have it. and when norah was talking to abby and ginny she would be upset. like i understand petty, but that is just childish. and even when they were all friends, she would just take up all the oxygen in the room and frankly be a straight up bitch to abby. i'm sorry but to have her character have more screen time is just wasting a lot of other characters with more compelling storylines.

maybe im just an abby stan but i love her character and i wish and hope we will see more of her in season 3 but like abby's character is so much more compelling and frankly complex than max. max seems to me a caricature of a person and whether that's a writing issue or an acting issue is beyond me. max and norah frankly don't care for abby. and hopefully this is all a set up for whats to come but i really like ginny and abby's friendship. frankly the most true friendship they have is with each other because they understand each other. i'm not saying you have to come from a broken home to understand each other but ginny actually takes time to hear abby out and vice versa while max is so self-involved that she doesn't hear anyone else's problem and unfortunately norah is sort of a pushover. at the end of the season, it really seemed like norah wanted to be there for abby but was so easily distracted by her bf...

my toxic trait tho is hoping press being the one to help abby get through it.

my wish for season 3 though is more of ginny and abby's friendship. i want to see abby being there for ginny and vice versa.

that's all. i really hope the actor's strike is over soon so they can start filming but at the same time i really hope that the writers use this time wisely...

I don't assume people's sexualities at all, but the way Nicholas Galitzine talks about Henry of RWRB (from interviews) is the exact same way Kit Connor used to talk about his character Nick Nelson from Heartstopper before he forcibly had to out himself online. He's said he enjoys playing characters that have an internal struggle though (which are most of his characters, including his queer ones) so... Just throwing some food for thought.

The funniest thing is that Nick plays Harry in a film of the Harry fan fic The Idea of You where the Harry character is 19 and falls in love with a 39 year old woman, who in the film is played by Anne Hathaway. All very het but it was filmed last year so should be out soon on Amazon.

It's good to know that if i were to make a sideblog i would have at least one follower! Noted. I think i'm going to hold off a bit for now (ask me again when bottoms starts streaming i need an outlet that is not this blog). He might still turn out to be problematic (i highly doubt it), so i'm just a casual fan for now (at least that's what i'm telling myself lol).

Thank you for the food for thought. I've thought this too. There are many small things here and there he's said and done, or how he reacts to things and so forth that made me go 'huh...'. At the same time he's talked openly about ex gf several times, but never about a bf. He might be bi or pan and/or it's a simple case of closeting for career purposes. He might still be straight, but the more i see and the more information comes forth the less likely i think it is. If he's actually straight i think he must be very secure in himself and his sexuality. The way he sees and talks about queer things, feminism and toxic masculinity is very mature and he's very informed on these topics. His respect for women, his respect for others boundaries and his refusal to keep to stereotypical gender roles is more than i've seen from any other celebrity. It's also very unusual to see in a straight man.

Anon about tioy. I know, check out my anne hathaway tag for my reaction to the news. I was so disappointed in her. I have very strong opinions on the het harry fan fics made into film. These films are enforcing his het womaniser image and helping to closet him. And it's so wrong when you know he's (most likely) forcibly closeted. He can't do anything about these movies, since it's based on fan fic and not him. And people are going to see Nick as playing Harry even if the character has another name. When i went to see barbie i got the trailer for the next aft*r movie. The urge to boo in that full theater was strong. It makes me so god damn angry at the world (also larry fics are objectivly so much better than het fics, why aren't we getting a movie based on that?).

As i've said before, i hope tioy comes out before george and mary so people quickly forget about tioy. I think some part of nicks fandom will treat tioy as they did purple hearts. I'm grateful for that. I hope when he gets more known he'll get offered better and less problematic roles, still as diverse, but less controversial and fandom splitting.
