Do you like seeing cubitos hurt in a variety of ways, and then comforted afterwards? Do you sometimes go "man I wish I had an incredibly long list of ways to hurt and then comfort my guys"? Do you like working to a prompt someone gave you? Do deadlines comfortably far off in May fill you with a sense of security and peace?

CAN I INTEREST YOU IN THE HURT/COMFORT EXCHANGE?

The exchange is a big multi-fandom exchange, so as with other exchanges, you sign up with your list of Requests (things you'd like as a gift), and Offers (things you're willing to make as a gift), Ao3 runs a big machine that matches you, and then you will have six weeks to work on your gift before the deadline. It's a freeform exchange, so in addition to matching on ships (CharacterA & Character B (Character A Hurt) or Character A/Character B (Both Hurt)), you also need to have signed up and said that what you want for the gift is "Arranged Marriage - friends try to comfort anxious newlywed". Or "Character A Takes A Blow Meant For Character B". Or "Character who is afraid of vulnerability cries during sex". Or "Estranged Characters - Injured A shows Up on B's doorstep Saying "I didn't know where else to go"". I could go ON. There are probably thousands of freeform tags and honestly sometimes I browse them for inspiration.

We are currently in the nominations phase, which is when everybody submits the ships and freeforms they want to see in the tagset, because once Nominations are over, you will only be able to sign up with the ships and freeforms (basically little prompts) that people have already submitted to the tagset.

Popping in to say hello again. :)

Classes are supposed to start on September 4th here, so I've mostly been hanging out at home. One of my roommates is teaching me how to play Spider-Man on the PS4 while we have time to kill. I've also been working on my writing projects, which has been me putting the blorbos through the wringer, but they're okay! Mostly.

I haven't learned anything useful from my appointments, so I'm stuck waiting for phone calls and follow-ups again. There's one more roommate who's supposed to move in soon, but she's been exposed to COVID, so I'm not sure what exactly is going to happen. Things have been a bit tense about that because the others are worried about me getting sick, but I think we can figure something out.

🥭 Rank from most enjoyable/fun to write to least: Fluff, Smut, Angst, Crack. This was difficult! But I think I've settled on this order:

Crack: because I love coming up with ridiculous scenarios.

Fluff: because who doesn't love a happy ending at least every now and then?

Smut: I don't even write smut (for now? Ever? Who knows!) because I feel I'd be terrible at it, but (probably because of its inherent comedy potential) I still had to rank it higher than...

Angst: because I feel awful putting characters through the wringer, but sometimes The Plot just demands it, and who am I to argue with that?

🥝 What’s your favorite trope/AO3 tag to write? I'm a big fan of the Getting Together trope/tag, closely followed by Found Family. Both seem to crop up a fair bit in my writing for this fandom! 🫐 What’s your favorite underrated thing in your fandom? (A ship that only you seem to write for, a character there’s almost no fics about, a trope that criminally hasn’t been written yet, etc.) Nace is very often cast as the caretaker in a lot of stories, but I'd love to see that flipped a bit more often, because it'd be nice to see it going both ways. There are already some fics exploring other people being protective of him, but I feel like there's definitely room for more! We all need (or would like) taking care of sometimes, I think.

My absolute favourite part of the santa clause fandom is that nobody. NOBODY. is here for the main character lmao. Cute head elf? My god. like, 75% of this fandom looses their HEAD about him. Wowie. Narrative Macky is a FLAVOR. Showing the wasteland, "everyone thinks they're the hero of their own story." "He's even fooled himself." and he's always so calm through it like an experienced war veteran, no judgement just saying how the old history was. This is great insight into his own psyche if you're crazy and tear it apart like a chew toy.

I was feeling ashamed of myself and my place in fandom, because of my "weird interests" that "no one wants to see" and was fighting back against it and had a bunch of normal arguments like they tell you to make in therapy and then had the thought about the fact that my favorite tag of yours is the one for the stuff you consider most taboo. My own most taboo writing has the most hits of any of my stuff on AO3.

I get it, its hard to go balls to the walls about certain content because in the year 2k23 people —overgeneralisation here and i am not singling out/targeting any age group except maybe minors who should be very careful about the content and things they consume online that may or may not be tagged (hopefully they are, sincerely tumblr remains the best social media platform for this that ive been on that has such an extensive personalised tagging system) — uh back to year 2023 and people find faults in ALOT of things and disregard the tags

It would have been a cool option to open s3 with the lucius/pete matelotage. Maybe it would have lessened the whiplash after Izzy's death. Provide a reason for Stede and Ed to reunite with the crew in s3 (not that there's any shortage of possibilities there). Something to bring full circle at the end of s3 if they do an Ed/Stede matelotage. I do totally get why they put it in s2 especially not knowing if there will be a s3. This is probably just my brain not letting go of thinking we'd see a Lucius/Pete wedding bash lol.

I'm being 100% serious here, I don't think there's anything they could have done to make the reactions any less feral than they were. Even if they'd had the whole 10 episodes they needed, even if Lucius and Pete's wedding had happened on a completely separate episode from Izzy's death and funeral instead of like two minutes later, even if they'd gotten married five episodes earlier, the Izzy stans would still be raging about it as much as they are. They don't care about actual reasons, they're just grasping at any straw they can find to bitch about their blorbo's death because they were watching a whole other show where he was for racist reasons a main character and his death is an unforgivable crime against humanity and queer people everywhere (you have my empathy if you're a sane fan and you're sad about your blorbo's death without harassing anyone about it, I've shed a tear or two for Izzy myself.)

I think it was tonally perfect to close the season on a wedding, showing everyone moving on from the loss of their friend and all the hardships they all (including and especially Lucius) went through during it. It's the promise that no matter how bleak things get, how much you suffer or how much you lose, there's always something good to hold onto, something brighter in your future (the way Ed looks at Stede during the ceremony tells us clearly he's decided to marry Stede at some point, which is such a lovely thing to include there given where he was like two episodes ago. He knows he's loved and capable of love now and he's allowing himself to dream of a future with Stede and I, for one, am still dying about it.)

Everyone deserved a sweet, quiet sendoff after being put through the wringer this season, and I think the wedding followed by Ed and Stede deciding to retire and stay behind watching the crew sail off into the sunset together while they reaffirm their commitment to each other was absolutely perfect.

You cannot write a tv show around the fandom's expectations and potential reactions. Ofmd is incredibly kind in the way they take into account how much the queer community has suffered and try to be mindful of that in their writing (David has said this influenced their decision to end the season on a hopeful note in case we don't get s3, even though Ed and Stede still have a ways to go to get to a place where they can finally settle down together in a truly stable way.) But they are still writing a tv show, creating a story they want to tell in the way they want to tell it, and it's not fair to ask them to take into consideration that there's a whole subsection of the fandom that has been refusing to see the show for what it really is for a year and a half and harassing everyone else about it, or predict how they were going to react to the very necessary and well executed narrative beat of Izzy's death, or, god forbid, change the story to prevent their temper tantrum.

I'd have loved to see more of Lucius and Pete's wedding, finally get to see Ed and Stede dance, maybe, discuss retirement. I firmly blame HBO for slashing their fucking budget for s2 tho, I'm sure they would have loved to write us a lovely wedding party if they'd been given the chance. We did get Calypso's birthday, so I can't really complain. And I have absolute faith we're gonna get to see Ed and Stede's wedding in s3, and hopefully then they'll finally be allowed to dance.

Through everything that I've gone through, both in my personal life and on here wretched platform, what kept me going were the people that choose to give me a chance and believe in me, and took to writing with me with a care and attention that is hard to find — being the first to write with me seriously, remembering small character details, challenging me as a writer, entertaining the silliest of concepts, telling me you're happy to see me back whenever I crawl out of one of my hiatuses, it is a myriad of small things that mean the world to me.

I genuinely think neither my take on Kunsel, or myself really, would be the same without you guys. I wish I could form the words necessary to get my feelings across, but well, you'll have to contend yourselves with this sappy mess as I don't usually deal with emotions very well.

@meteor-shots — Zack, I know you're not really around anymore and we don't talk as much, having both moved onto different ventures & fandoms, but that just makes the times that we do cross paths (or you take the time to log on just to poke me) mean all the much more. Zackarías Fair will forever have a special place within Kunsel's heart, having been the first Zack to accept Kunsel as his best friend, if not more. You've also met me at my most uncertain, stuck between names and not really knowing where and who I'd turn out to be, and I thank you for letting me have the space to figure it out.

Kunsel Zantos showed promise. That much had been obvious from day one of his formal recruitment; questionable background and motivations aside (that which, perhaps, had begun Tseng's careful monitoring in the first place). But in truth, the Turk had not expected him to last long. Bets placed against him for all manners of reasons/excuses, foolish enough to go poking his head in places they didn't belong.

And yet, here he was, stubbornly persistent despite it all.

The last time he had to deal with a SOLDIER directly like this? All those years ago. Alongside Zack. A case which had been pulled from its archival home to live under the watchful gaze of the leader of the Turks because of the very reckless idiot he was now working with.

There was a comfort in physical contact that Aerith couldn't explain. It was always how she had been. But she bottled that for the sake of being heartbroken. The more Kunsel came around, the more that heartbreak lifted. The more she felt herself. The more she punched and pushed, teased and tapped. Invaded his space with those big green eyes and smiled at him as wide as she could...

She was happy.

"...you're the only one that's left— you— you KNOW everything, and I know you have to live with that just as much as I do, but you've come back after all this time, and that's all you can say to me? I'm so sorry about that complexity rating, but... well, she's ultimately little more than a parody of BL readers and doesn't really get enough screen time to have her own arc. I do love her, though. The crumbs we get are very flavourful.

Which brings us to what I want for her, which is pain. :) I want to put her through the wringer, emotionally and possibly physically. I want to squeeze her like a lemon until I have enough juice for an emotional arc. Mostly, I think she should suffer a bit from her perfect image and how it contrasts with her desires - she already has a secret identity, but that only works for her as long as her little deviances are happening in written texts instead of real life. I also think she should have a hard time translating her desires into real life in the first place. And she should get her ass kicked by Sha Hualing more, it's clearly doing something for her.

In the end, though, I want her to be in a better situation, where she can be who she wants to be and also has lots of kinky demon sex. It's what she deserves.

Rules: List five things you never get tired of writing. It can be tropes, themes, characters, phrases, whatever brings you joy. Then tag five people!

I’ve split my things into content and style:

Content

Angst, angst, angst. With at least a hint of a happy ending. I will put my blorbos through the wringer and I will make them suffer and I will bring ALL the feels.

Characters in love. Like, full on, what all the songs are about, deep and abiding love. I love a soulmate trope but I love the fact that two idiots will actively choose someone else to spend their lives with and so they will work through everything together, build a life together, be happy together, and it’s all because they want it and not because it’s predetermined by someone or something they have no say in.

Long conversations. I love writing scenes were characters just talk. I love playing about with the dialogue and trying to express it in ways that showcase their emotions. I want it to be natural and real - characters talking over each other, repeating themselves, getting exasperated, talking around actions, even saying things they don’t really mean. There’s going to be a scene in my current WiP where someone is going to say possibly the worst thing ever, and it’s going to be in-the-moment, oh-shit-where-did-that-come-from, stupid thing we say because we’re angry and we just need to lash out.

Style

Long rambling sentences that go on and on without a single bit or a hint of a pause because there are just too many thoughts or emotions going around in a character’s head or heart that it’s all just pouring out of them so I take the reader on this journey where we don’t have a single second to pause or stop or even really think about what is going on. Then a short sentence.

A connected narrative. I love writing in hints and clues along the way, I will always craft an ending which links to the beginning, I build in imagery and metaphors and set up payoffs, and even if people don’t notice it I know it’s there.

blorbo: elphaba. i dont shut up about elphaba. i cant shut up about elphaba. the character of all time. she shares nearly all of my interests and if she were real i think we'd have actual hours-long conversations about animals. and Animals. we need more unhinged scientist rep in media and if i cannot contribute to that irl without being under government surveillance then i will do it through the medium of elphaba. please talk to me about her i will love you forever.

skrunkly: elphaba is also kind of my skrunkly but in the interest of not repeating characters i will say malky (elphaba's cat from the book, for musical-only fans). my little war criminal. glass bones and paper skin. i will kiss his little head as he rats me out to the Wizard.

scrimblo bimblo: DOCTOR FUCKING DILLAMOND this man deserved so much better and the way BOTH canons treat him is fucking unacceptable. ur gonna make a Goat who bonds with elphaba and finally treats her like a human for once, then either 1) kill him off or 2) condemn him to lose his sapience?? i would fight wars for the venerable doctor dillamond. (**HONORABLE MENTION GOES TO TURTLE HEART I ALSO LOVE HIM**)

glup shitto: i know tibbett is like. the less obscure of himself and crope (b/c. uh. tiger things) but i love him and he ALSO didnt deserve what happened to him. see, that's the trend here. he's goofy and wonderful and i hope he gets ghost-married to the man of his dreams.

oh this has to be glinda. jesus. girl gets put through the wringer on SUCH a consistent basis it's fucking unreal. she goes from having everything to experiencing like 6 devastating losses and STILL graduates, only to immediately sink into an unhappy marriage (and/or to immediately be exploited by the government), all the while never being given the proper chance to mourn so she fills her life with frivolity to hide her insurmountable grief. she's not in my Top Top Absolute Favorite characters but i do recognize that she's the one with the most depth and i love her for that.

horse plinko: a fastpass to hell would be too kind for madame morrible <3 i want to see her spun in a vortex until the layers of her skin begin to separate and slough off. how dare she attempt to brainwash two 18 year olds and a 15(pretty sure) year old into doing her fucking political bidding. how dare she assume that they would be so fucking feeble-minded. how dare she look upon oz with her stupid fucking smile and preach discrimination to generations upon generations of impressionable young students, fully cognizant of the harm she has brought upon the entire nation. i want her to feel each crunching impact of her body on the plinko pegs while the flames of suffering lap ever-closer at her pulverized heels.

eeby deeby: i'm gonna have to agree with everyone else and say the Wizard gfhdkfg that man just does not deserve rights!! snarky old jackass. calls elphaba stupid b/c he can't live with the fact that he's losing an argument to a teenage girl. like yeah ok you have imposter syndrome but that doesn't justify decades of murder and oppression bro get a GRIP
