I sometimes remember that I used to work in a bank which was one of the most socialist corporations in the country and laugh at the irony of it. But it's also a reminder that even the perfect world version of a corporation is still a corporation and it sucks your soul out.

I hate sales. It’s not a surprise, I went back to school to try to avoid working retail and the game industry is shitting itself so here I am once again in retail. But the fucking worst part is how much worse I’m getting paid.

When I sold mattresses last time I was making incredible money because the company I worked for was employee owned. I got bonuses, I never made base pay, I always sold enough to get commission. Then a mega corporation bought it and fucked everyone over.

So no more bonuses, lower commission, less benefits. All the evils of capitalism and no union.

I’ve been forced into trainings over and over being like, “If you do a good job and add on accessories and bases you’ll get paid so much more!”

But guess what? I’m great at my job. I fit people for the right pillow and sell protectors because I believe those things are important. I haven’t made commission in months. Deliveries are spaced out, I’m stuck too often in the little store. My sales numbers look incredible, I’m in every way a model employee. Except that I’m getting paid shit to be a model employee and it makes me furious.

Do you know how much media has been produced in the last decade? This really was the era of overstimulation where you never really could watch all the stuff there was.

So when people complain that TV will be bad now, so? Go back and watch all the stuff that's just rotting on streaming platforms it's not like it's 2007 and linear TV is your only option.

But most importantly just support the strike so that the people who make all the stuff you like can keep making it :)

back when i worked at [large chain coffee store], i tried to unionize my workplace. my manager sat me down and gave me a very guilt trip-y talk. lots of "but i thought we were a family :(" and "you don't *really* know what unionization does, do you?" i played dumb and managed to avoid being fired, but. chilchuck momence.

My car battery died at work today and opening the hood summoned one hundred construction workers who all had OPINIONS about what was wrong

I'm no economist so take this with a grain of salt, but if we were really interested in making some kind of change for our communities: we could make a lot of progress by instituting a maximum wage and tying it to the minimum wage.

Like, truly extravagantly wealthy individuals (anyone who has more than say $20 million at any given time) are economic bottlenecks, and bottlenecks need to be removed to improve any system. So let's set a maximum wage where people can only earn lets say 15x that of the lowest paid worker in the same organization. Make it apply to private and public positions. A CEO can't make more than 15x what a temp makes, and a Senator or even the President of the United States can't make more than 15x a court clerk makes.

Let's drag everyone closer to an average wage where the lowest paid get to enjoy an actually humane life and the highest paid don't hoard more than they could ever possibly spend meaningfully.
