Excuse the insanity for those who don't feel compelled towards these two

Hickory and JD met a few good years before the events of the World Tour when Dory was traveling to find Lonesome Flats, got heatstroke and passed out in the desert. Wakes up to Hickory shadowed in the flickering light of a campfire beneath a canopy of the brightest stars he'd seen since the Neverglades, but it wouldn't be until QUITE a few months later until they really started developing crushes against each other. (Cowboy under the stars, you'd think he'd fall right then and there, right? 🌟)

Why was Hickory already in Lonesome Flats, you might ask? Where was Dickory?

In a glue trap, I say in response. Hickory came from Yodelsberg (is there a canonical name for this?) for international study and to learn about new music. He fell in love with country because yodeling and country music are actually quite gorgeous together. She Taught Me to Yodel, anyone?

Delta Dawn obviously didn't take to Dory showing up and around the town, but after some convincing by Hickory and lots of proving himself (plus a vulture attack that resulted in John Dory saving the very young niece of Delta Dawn- Clampers-) he 'earned' a place there and began to work around town.

It was weird for him.

He'd never quite settled down, until then.

(Now, the specific timeline, yearly I mean is a little muddled because I'm still crafting this, but I'll put them out about three years, now.)

John Dory was still living in Lonesome Flats, and he'd started a relationship with Hickory. They loved each other, as my cohort in crime @protagonist-art (CHECK OUT THEIR ART I LOVE THEM SM MUAH) has Hickory tell John when we get write them, "More than the moon loves the ocean." As surely as the tide pulls in and out, so the lovers return to each other.

So Via, what does Hickory think about BroZone?

After returning to the devastated Troll Tree, John Dory lost a piece of his heart in the damaged pod they used to live in. It was the first time he went grey, and the memories of his brothers started shifting from what was, to what would never be again. He couldn't find it within himself to talk about them, and has his secrets.

But so does Hickory.

Heh. I know. It's just a glimpse into my dark mind /ref. Anyways, Hickory never told John Dory he was a Yodeler troll. (Another piece of lore that Quizzy and I worked on together and I think it's brilliant.)

Oh, they love every aspect of each other too much for their bond to truly be broken.

And yet.

One morning, years after just living and loving, John Dory wakes up with a massive headache and nausea.

"Maybe it's that horse that kicked me yesterday, could've gotten me harder than we both thought."

No knots, but there was an egg.

🌟 (Here I'll say that I'm massively in love with the headcanon that trolls conceive through true love- it isn't quite necessary for them to physically do anything unless they want to. Just them, wholeheartedly trusting and putting everything into their relationship and pouring their heart out to their partner.)

They were absolutely ECSTATIC, and rightfully terrified in their own ways. Neither of them were looking for children but not against it, and after resting for a few days they began to plan. A nursery in the house, baby books with millions of names scattered on the coffee table, toys and cute little baby clothes for when the little one hatched.

Wanna know two of the names John Dory had in mind? Rhonda and Dolly.

They were ecstatic until the night John Dory woke up absolutely ill and with a pit in his stomach.

They lost the egg, and it was the second time John Dory went grey in his life.

A week after this had happened, John Dory left a bundled lock of his hair at Hickory's nightstand and did what he knows how to do all too well. He ran.

Hickory never went too far out of Lonesome Flats in the hopes that John Dory would come back. He couldn't imagine what would happen if his love came back and didn't find him there.

The events of World Tour come about, Hickory meets Branch, and travels for the first time since John Dory left.

John Dory continued to travel, until the events of Band Together.

But don't worry, dear readers, for as surely as the tides come in, so will the lovers meet again. 🌟

it makes me so happy to think about an AU where atem is not a 3000 year old spirit trapped inside a puzzle, but a 3000 year old spirit trapped inside .. a cat body . it would make him so silly, because wdym you were once a pharaoh, a mighty leader, treated like a literal god in this earth, having the knowledge to all the existing games and controlling shadow magic and now you're here melting with some pets behind you ears??

i like to imagine that yugi found him after completing the millennium puzzle, yes, but they meet during a moment where atem is in danger and yugi rescues him. like yugi completes the millennium puzzle -> atem wakes up confused in domino -> he fucks around and finds out -> yugi finds him and takes him home. yugi puts him on his bag in the front of kame game and enters home, because he doesn't think his mother or his grandpa would approve a cat.

so he hides atem inside of his bedroom for months, and atem gets bored in the beginning, because yugi would be out for most of the day during the week. so he starts following the teenager secretly, and when yugi notices his presence, its too late - he is already on his destination. then everyone would have to deal with yugi playing duel monsters with a cat on his lap, sometimes jumping on the table and laying over the cards lazily or just dropping things around out of nowhere, because he is bored and yugi isnt giving him attention.

(eventually, sugoruku finds out about atem because he needed something that was inside yugi's room and his grandson was in school. so he enters the bedroom and atem is on the bed, belly up and spread all over the mattress, like he is the king of that cubicle of a room.)

and do you know that cat that wants to start a war with everyone, but adores their owner deeply? that is cat atem. he is distrusting of almost everyone around him, except for yugi's friends, but with rules. no one can rub his belly but yugi; no one can put him on their lap but yugi; no one can give him medicine but yugi; no one can >tame< this beast of a cat but yugi. all that it takes is for yugi to sit down on >whatever< surface and atem is already jumping on his lap, dirtying his dark clothes with his fur.

besides, yugi eventually learns that atem can sense the evil in people. when they are around someone with bad intentions, atem gets defensive, hissing and attacking if that person tries to get too close to him or yugi. and, coincidentally or not, not too long after that, the rumours start to run about that same malicious person going through some traumatic experience and never being the same ever again.

atem also constantly tries to keep a cold facade, but melts so easily to yugi. look, he has thoughts like a person, right? he thinks that this is a completely normal thing for a cat to have - critical thinking, knowledge about games, political debates inside of his head. and when he is trying to keep that facade around other people --always on yugi's lap-- and yugi starts scratching behind his ear, he enters a dilemma, thinking "oh.. oh no, this is going to ruin my reputation! ok, act nonchalant.. im a dgafer, im indifferent to .. this super special awesome ear scratch- wait im losing my focus! ok i don't care i don't care i dont ca- OH YES RIGHT THERE"

so duelist kingdom starts, yugi starts to hear a different, slightly deeper voice inside of his head during the duels. at first, he thinks he is going insane, but that same voice whispers to him all of the strategies that granter his victory. and when he duels against pegasus, he gets to see the truth - he passes out and sees atem in his human form for the first time. after that duel, he starts seeing atem during the duels in his spirit form by his side, indicating the card and strategies to win and in his sleep, atem visits him and they spend what seems like hours getting to really know each other - even though atem doesn't know a lot about himself in the beginning, he loves knowing every detail about yugi.

What i think (some) of the next gen kids are like when they're sick:

Scorpius: I've already done a whole post on this but I have no idea how to link posts despite being on this site for years. the short version is, he was a sick child and constantly in and out of hospital so now he cannot gauge when he's actually really sick and needs to just rest, so albus has to forcibly keep him in the dorm or hospital wing otherwise he will still try and go to class even if actively dying

Albus: he's lowkey so dramatic. if he has a small cold you WILL be hearing about it, BUT he's super subtle. he will casually tie it into conversation to make you feel sorry for him and just keep bringing it up until youre like aw no, im so sorry man. he doesnt try with rose anymore, because she will just mock him, she knows what hes doing. he's most obvious about it to Scorpius, he'll start pouting and be like I feel sick 🥺🥺 and Scorpius is immediately like oh poor baby 🥺🥺/gen and does in fact baby him until he feels better

Rose: does not get sick and its infuriating. when there's some kind of bug going around the school, you can guarantee this girl will not get it. she thinks everyone is just being dramatic and trying to get out of class. don't come to her for sympathy unless you actually look like you're on deaths door. the most sympathy surprisingly goes to Scorpius because she has seen this idiot try to attend class whilst not being able to function properly and be escorted out

Hugo: he doesnt get sick often, like a slightly below average getting sick, but my version of hugo is so unbothered by everything, he would end up in hospital or whatever but wont tell anyone, not on purpose, he just never goes out of his way to mention anything until it specifically comes up in conversation. Hes the random kid that pops up, says he has a relevant anecdote, tells you the wildest story youve ever heard so casually, youre left like???? what the fuck?? and how has that never come up before????, then he just dissapears again

James: gets so mopey, he gets so restless and hates having to sit and wait to get better. he'll enjoy not having to go to class for like one day but when you tell him he can't go anywhere or play quidditch or anything he's immediately over it like, 😟😟 wdym??? wdym I have to just lie here until I'm better??? lemme out!!!! LEMME OUT!!!!

Lily: lowkey whiny. she's not usually super whiny but she acts like a little kid when she's sick and will constantly frown and pout and cross her arms and kick her legs. collateral of being the youngest sibling lmao. she wants people to do everything for her and will shout for people to come get the TV remote or something that's only like 2 feet away from her and just shake her arm at it until you pass it. Victorie: doesn't usually get sick-sick often, but I headcanon her as being a general athlete, she likes to do triathlons in her spare time, and if she gets injured she literally has to not be able to walk before she stops. she will just keep going. have you seen female footballers? the way they will be wacked in the head and start bleeding everywhere but then be like meh I can keep going. so her.

Louis: cannot stand the wanting to throw up kind of sick. he can deal with anything else, he has a pretty good immune system, he can pretty much carry on with normal stuff, and you won't even realise he's sick, but the second he feels stomach sickness, he is pale as a ghost and out for business. lowkey has emetaphobia, he will just sit so still until he doesn't feel like that anymore trying to make it go away by just 🧍🏻‍♂️if I don't move it won't know I'm here, yk lmao. hates throwing up so fucking bad

Roxanne: takes the sickness as some kind of personal test. is dramatic in the sense that she will go full warrior mode and be like 😈 i will survive 😈 I will not be beaten by these pitiful germs 😈 and will absolutely just rock her way through it, she talks like she's on some kind of quest, and that this is some kind of evaluation of her perseverance

Fred: just lies there. will not move until he's better. doesn't get really dramatic or complain but god forbid you try and make him do something, he'll start going off about how normalised it is for people to push themselves when sick because society wants people to work themselves to death, and doesn't actually care about anyone's health, and everyone just gets so sick of hearing him, they leave him alone

Being for real, I can't believe it's 2025 already. Like, hahaha, what do you mean I'm closer to being twenty than I am to being fifteen? Like what do you mean I'm becoming a senior?! That I have to soon worry about money, politics, jobs, rent, and all of that stuff. What to do you mean that I'll have to save up for a car, that I have to take driving lessons, that I'll have to learn how to set up my own credit card, my own insurance, my own debit card, my own--everything?!! Hello, like. Hahaha, I don't wanna do all that lowkey! I mean, I have to, and I will but just the realization that, hey I'm growing old kinda sucks! It kinds of gives me this, knawing feeling in my chest and makes me feel skitish. Of-course it has it's pros! Like everything else. Like, I get to go out to parties, hangout with my friends outside of school, drink alcohol, all of that but like, I don't know. obviously, life isn't it without it's struggles and responsibility (Responsibility? Omg Take Responsibility. Mouthwashing reference?!!) but it's just so terrifying to think about like hello? If everything goes wrong, I might just have to kick the bucket LOL. Joke, maybe, I don't really know. It's 3:14 in the morning and I guess it's the lack of sleep that's making me think this way but, if you told me 3 years ago that I was still alive, I would have not believed you to be honest. I don't wanna burn forever, that's a fate that terrifies me. A fear that will always be ingrained into me, as I was raised in a Catholic-Christian household. Do I believe in God? I honestly, feel conflicted about it. I feel, obligated to. With everyone telling me, y'know. Believe in God, he'll help you! So like, I kinda feel like I have to believe in him otherwise I'll just, I don't really know. charles is the owner of an ice cream shop that specializes in making really elaborate ice cream confections. his store lowkey went viral on tiktok because their creations are super impressive looking, but mostly everyone in the comments was thirsting over charles when he appeared in the video to explain how they flavor the ice cream. obviously, his social media guy lando is absolutely thrilled with the heightened engagement.

one day after work, charles brings his puppy leo to the vet. they've been going to dr. vettel for forever and they both adore him. so imagine charles' shock when he checks in the with receptionist, an australian with remarkably swoopy hair who seems to have replaced the middle-aged woman with a perpetually pinched face that charles remembers form his previous visits, and is informed that dr. vettel has retired, moved to the alps to save the bees, and has left his personal phone number to charles in case he ever needs something.

after processing some emotions, charles finally asks the gold ticket question.

"who is leo seeing today, then?"

and then a blond man dressed in navy blue scrubs steps out from behind the door separating the rest of the clinic from the lobby. he doesn't seem to notice charles. charles doesn't mind because he's too busy ogling this gorgeous man who's exactly his type. he's always been a sucker for blue eyes, sue him.

"oscar, do you know if the 6'oclock appointment is coming in? they're already 15 minutes late, and the sooner i can get back to jimmy and sassy the better."

and boom introductions are made. they have a perfectly lovely vet appointment, where charles accidently said that leo is 4 years old instead of 8 months because the way max's mouth moved was just sooo mesmerizing wdym i actually have to have a functioning brain??

the next day, max shows up at the ice cream shop, presumably on his day off. charles is like "omg is he here to see me... but i don't want to read too much into it, yk?"

while paying for his scoop of vanilla ice cream on a waffle cone, max admits that he had no idea that charles owned the place. apparently, oscar had casually suggested the ice cream parlor as the best place in town for dessert. lando, who had been puttering around somewhere next to charles, trying to act like he wasn't listening in on their conversation, knocked over a rack of scrapers as soon at the mention of oscar's name. weird, right? crazyyyy

some time passes. max and charles become closer. leo is suddenly having a lot more vet visits than normal, even though he’s in perfect health so that charles has an excuse to see max. he’s aware that it’s getting borderline pathetic, and he’s pretty sure that oscar agrees, since the aussie has memorized his number due to how frequently charles calls to schedule appointments.

charles’ shop gets nominated for a prestigious award, created to highlight innovators in the gastronomic world internationally. to celebrate, his best friend, pierre, throws him a surprise party at the ice cream store after hours. all of their friends are invited, as well as seb. having listened to charles mope about the hot vet countless times, he pops by the veterinarian office and invites max, telling him to bring a friend if he’d like so that he’s more comfortable.

and that’s how max ends up at charles’ surprise party, cradling a bottle of what he hopes is acceptable wine, oscar in tow.

upon seeing max, charles has a brief moment of “i am actually going to to murder pierre omg how am I supposed to handle being with him outside of a work context without combusting” before realizing “OMG I GET TO BE NEAR MY CRUSH!!!!”

charles notices that oscar and lando seem super awkward and stiff around each other but doesn’t know why and chooses not to press it (so actually landoscar had a one night stand that lando fled at 5AM because commitment is scary and he’s worried because he likes this guy way more than he should for someone he’s met less than 12 hours ago. better leave before it get too real)

The night progresses, more wine is poured and toasts are made. Basically everyone is tipsy by the time the party winds down and people start to trickle out.

max is the last guest to leave, constantly finding himself caught in conversation with charles again and again. just as he steps out the door, charles grabs his arm.

“wait hold on, do you want to try next week’s special edition flavor? you’re special, so you can taste test before the official public release.” charles says and then proceeds to wink horrifically. max agrees and the two of them make their way to the walk in freezer in the back where charles stores flavors to restock.

the door closes behind them and they realize a little too late that charles forgot to unlock the door from the inside so they’re now trapped.

cue immense panic from both of them. thankfully, charles has his phone on him and calls lando, to whom he had given a spare pair of keys to let them out. in the meantime, they ultimately end up cuddling for warmth in an effort to not freeze before lando could get to them.

wrapped up in max’s embrace and lulled by the wine on his tongue, charles confesses to max. mutually reciprocated declarations of love ensue and just and they’re about to kiss, a lock clicks and lando opens the door.

laying in his bed that night, max asleep next to him, charles realizes that the bruises on lando’s throat definitely wasn’t because of the shop’s weird lighting casting shadows. they were most definitely hickeys and charles remembers lando slipping out of the party at much the same time as a certain receptionist.

Side Quest Rambling aka I yeet my opinions about WuWa side quests (spoilers!!!)

This particular quest had me going wtf at the end then i proceeded to cry at the implications

Idk if this quest is limited time only or what but my tab for it disappeared when I've finished the quest. Please do the quest! It's like a tutorial for the Echo system.

My recollection of the events might not be in order, especially at the last part but I still remember the important details of the story.

At first it was like a cheesy slice of life story where a group of friends help a buddy out tryna woo a potential partner. Tho instead of high schoolers, it's Chixia and Rover helping Granpa rizz up Grandma (i forgot their names im sorryyy) through Echoes. Which is cute imo.

Gramps is very persistent! And Rover (the player) goes around tryna find the right one to show off to Grandma. Gramps only has a hoartoise Echo. Simple and reliable. But he wants to really impress Grandma w something cool af!

He tried 13 times!!! Got rejected each and every time because Grandma keeps talking about her husband having an impressive Echo that was unforgettable to her.

At this point, I assumed that Grandma was a widow yk? Cuz it sounds like the husband has already passed and Gramps probably found love later in life in Grandma or smth.

At the end of the questline, Grandma had wandered out of the city and Gramps knew where she went. It was then revealed that Grandma used to be a captain in the military of sorts and the place she went to was where her last battle w her troop took place.

You duke it out but a rando TD was aiming for Grandma. Gramps summoned his hoartoise Echo to shield her just in time.

After the battle, Grandma reminisced about her husband having a hoartoise Echo that came in cluth during said battle all those years ago. So she accepted Gramps' offer to court her and they went home.

In the last bit, when you return to the city, Gramps shared that Grandma was not only a captain in the military, but that she was also a renowned Echo expert during her time AND he was her vice captain and husband.

The last battle was so devastating to Grandma and her troops that (the survivors probably retired right after) she probably repressed the memory. Gramps also mentioned that it was for the best that she doesn't remember.

He thanked us for our help and the quest is finished.

Free! ran its entire course and is over, plain and simple. (I know, not even news at this point. Still.)

Last year we got B-Project season 3 - if not completely out of the blue (I legit don't know), I think it's fair to say it was at least outta left field. I sure didn't expect that.

Also last year, HypMic also got a 2nd season, another thing I honestly had no real hope for (but was, ofc, happy as hell for it) - and now they're even releasing a second game (which, lbr, they're dropping the ball HARD with, not doing it in English as well, but I digress).

Outside of manga/anime, but also lastyear, and to me personally, still just as completely and absolutely incomprehensible, both BUCK-TICK's Sakurai Atsushi, and (just ten days later!) X JAPAN's HEATH passed away.

Haikyuu!! is ... well, at this point we're just waiting for its coffin lid to be nailed down with the last movie (pardon the morbid).

But - in May this year, we got news that a DAIYA sequel is in the works. (While Boukyaku BATTERY was doing a damn fine job of tiding us over.)

KnY is in its final stretch with a trilogy coming up ... er, well. Sometime. Fwiw, it's definite.

The BNHA anime just passed some major manga milestones.

Amidst all this, BLUE LOCK has absolutely taken the world by a storm, I'd say especially with the anime. Then the mobile game which also got an English (and quite actually global!) release, a second mobile game, the second season of the anime coming in October - and the sheer amount and range of various collabs and promotions is just bloody mindblowing - seriously, try following it on Twitter, you'll be overwhelmed in a week. (I'd also say it's breaking some new ground and pushing the envelope in terms of fanservice and attention to certain ... ahem, details, point being the thirst gets quenched more than adequately.)

Meanwhile, the Twisted Wonderland anime seems to be ... well. It seems not to be. Even though the game, the English version at that, is just now celebrating it's 2.5th anniversary. (Wdym it's been 2.5 years??)

Still though... What's next? My beloved Dream Festival! awakens from its ... not-quite-death, seeing as they have been doing all sorts of limited merch runs and collabs and concerts and limited screenings ever since the franchise's complete emergency shutdown??? Shinichiro's death and reveal about Time Leaping messed with his head a bit so that's why he's not as energetic as he was as a teen. When he makes a decision, he knows it and what it can trigger but he still does it cold-headed if he feels he has to. Wish we had more on him so I could dig more without feeling like I'm making things up. Ikemen.

Favorite thing about that character

He knows how to keep secrets but he reveals them when he feels it's necessary. Keeping secret and being trusted is good and all, but the fact he's willing to share the truth after years of silence because he thinks Mikey deserves to be told? To know exactly what's happening to him and why? To know about what his brother's done? It may not change anything to Mikey's state (it likely didn't) – it's too late –but at least he'll know why.

He's the sole reason we got the Original Timeline flashback/arc. And for that reason only—

Where he was coming from was understandable – but that was still unexpected and the fact he said that to Shinichiro out of everyone.. Wakasa mourned Mikey already, and cannot bear to lose Shinichiro. He rather lose his friend's brother than his friend. And it's not like he takes the value of Mikey's life away (he suggests to celebrate his passing after all) but Wakasa is not one to have a confused and unsure mind. He doesn't like wasting time with overthinking. He has clear-cut answers to everything, and he's glad that Mikey died, and it's sincere – he's not a liar – and he was scared he'd completely lose his friend and he really, really thinks that now that Mikey's dead, Shinichiro is freed of every burden (he'd take a while to recover but he will, it's Shinichiro) and then it doesn't happen. He loses his friend anyway.

His introduction scene is one of my favorite too – first we can't see him coming, and then he's so tiny next to Kakucho???

Takeomi, because Wakasa and Benkei are only ever seen interacting with Shinichiro and Takeomi's chapter is 3/4 about Shinichiro but there's this uncomfortable wall canon (unwillingly or not) but between Takeomi and Wakasa&Benkei that I Don't LikeTM (it's really interesting tho! Ofc their relationship is tense, but I just wish to see how it was before Takeomi got corrupted. Or even when he was, but before the end of BD.) They founded BD together!! They saw each other maybe daily for 5 years straight – their teenage years – wdym there's almost nothing about them!!(aside from Wakasa's 'A day in his life', Benkei's 'A day in his life' and Takeomi's 'feared/disliked person'???)

And then Sanzu.. Wakasa and Benkei are taking care of Senju – it'd be nice to know what they think of Haruchiyo. If they used to interact with him (and Senju, and the other kids) when he was younger; what their thought about Takeomi regarding the situation, ...

I know the Akashi siblings' nickname is the 'mysterious siblings' but still. I need answer goddammit.

His relationship with Benkei was totally inspired by Yoshitsune no Minamoto and Benkei from Japanese History. Hence, Wakasa comes from a rather wealthy family. He's the youngest of a handful of siblings and was born out of wedlock (he's still loved dw). Most of his physical appearance comes from his mother.

(Also – yes he does like lollipops and has a sweet tooth but the stick he constantly has in his mouth is a dango stick. And I'll die on this hill.)

Okay, so.  Kate started out annoying me with her "I can navigate just fine, hmph!" routine, but she's gotten better.  Her good humor about the getting-lost thing with Tony was endearingly wry, and I appreciate it.  Also, she did try to... not commiserate, and console is strong, but... idk, help?  

Which brings me to Gibbs, who just.  This is aggravating me.  I understand that you've said there's a backstory I don't know about.  Sure, fine.  Whatever.  I know that he and Stanley worked together before, and that was a different time.  Yeah.  Okay.  I follow.  But he's still being an asshole.  And if he's capable of not being an asshole, then it's all the worse that he is being an asshole.  And I've never been one of those people who thinks "being really harsh on someone pushes them to succeed in a way that kindness or geniality won't" because, frankly, that's stupid.  I've worked in both environments over the years, and yeah, I managed to work decently well in both, but I worked better in an environment where, sure, I was expected to do well and held to that standard (and chastised if I didn't), but also got some kind of positive feedback too.  Tough love is great and all, but it's gotta be tough love, not just tough.

Gibbs is clearly capable of maintaining his standards while still praising the recipient — I point to the banter session with Stanley about "this is all you could find?" "At least I don't contaminate evidence while bagging-and-tagging it" — so I refuse to accept that he can't do it with Tony.  Hell, he even sprinkles praise into his conversations with Kate.  And Abby.  (Not really with Ducky yet, but idk if I'd expect that; they seem more like equals, tbh, than a supervisor and a supervisee.)

And, whatever Kate says, I've yet to see a reason that the thing between Stan and Gibbs is substantially different from Tony and Gibbs.  (One may develop, but I haven't seen/noticed it yet.)  Instead, it feels like a blatant double-standard, and a bit of a shove-it-in-Tony's-face situation.  Which might be iffy writing, or might be the intent, idk.  [The lack of a difference is likely a writing flaw again. You don’t see it but your suppose to just accept it’s there]  DAMMIT, WRITERS, I CAN’T READ YOUR FREAKING MINDS.  SHOW, DON’T TELL IS A BASIC PRINCIPLE OF STORYTELLING.  Someone skipped the lore dump to get ahead to “solving the problem,” I see.  (Callback to this post on main.)

[And see I thought the curious case was hilarious the first time I watched it.]  Oh, god, no, I hated it.  So much.  All the jokes at the fact that he'd literally lost so much — in a sacrifice for Bobby — that he'd come to rely on?  The alleged "humor" of him suddenly not being able to do stuff because he's 80 freaking years old, and Sam (in all of his youthful energy) finding it so funny?  Bobby being all mocking about "oh, you're such a wuss for not dealing with conditions that popped into your system without any warning; I've managed to deal with that stuff for years (when it happened gradually and came about naturally due to aging and not me betting away my life to save my crotchety-ass father figure).  How dare this be a readjustment!!?!?"  [😂😂😂 again all fair!]  And the added injustice… The reason Bobby's more crotchety than normal?  Because he had lost something that was core to his personality, all at once, with zero warning, and had lost the ability to do as much physically as a result.  The "humor" is at best so hypocritical, and muchhhhh more blatantly (to me), so mean-spirited that I just.  God, that episode turns my stomach.  I like the witch doing it, and I like some elements, but I'm never watching that again if I can help it.

Anyway... this isn't a SPN reaction, so back to NCIS :)  [😂😂😂]  Gibbs just.  Bothers me.  Even ifffff it's intended well.  Which I kinda doubt.  It's not cool. And I guarantee that it's not a coincidence that, in the same episode, he was asking the chief if he ever gave his men a break.  The writers might be trying to tell-not-show that Gibbs and Tony actually have a decent relationship, and it's a different decent relationship from Gibbs and Stan, but they're show-not-telling that they don't.  And that Gibbs might be fine with it, but Tony's clearly not feeling great about it.  [Fair. And that’s making me sound like a broken record ☠️ but I do get it]

And I guess the overdoses — or, rather, the now-observed symptoms — were because he didn’t tell them what it was and they were addicted, so they kept taking them without being concerned with adverse effects?  One of the few times they don’t aggressively shove the explanation at us and it’s the one time that would be useful.  [☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️]

And Tony’s like 👁👄👁  And it ends with like a you like me your really like me moment and Gibbs is like.. now I don’t.]  Well, I look forward to it, I suppose.  I still maintain, though, that verbal communication is better than assuming that he’d go “oh, look, he deigned to say my name; woot”

Anyway… I don’t have that much to add, really.  Decent episode, though I don’t know how to feel about the writing.  I guess Stan talking to Tony about Gibbs default setting was good, but I’m not sure it makes much sense.  Unless the point is he just.  Likes Kate that much that he didn’t do the whole “call by the wrong name” thing?  Also, we have no proof that Tony didn’t get called a different name than his actual one on his first days.  So this is really illogical, tbh.  I feel like it was crammed in at the end to excuse the rest without actually.  you know.  excusing the rest.

I liked Kate this episode (with the exception of her little “well, he did dishonor the Navy” thing at the beginning)   Her banter with Tony — and even, *sigh*, the fact that she won the race — was well done.  Ducky was in it a criminally short amount of time; same with Abby

idk.  Decent episode, but it’s got some iffy bits.  And Gibbs annoyed me, obviously, as I’m sure you’re shocked to hear.

Movement One

(A/N: The prelude and first movement took me 20 days to finish [I used to be able to write 2k words in less than a week] Absolutely wild from start to finish, had both a lockdown due to a potential bomb and a shooting threat at my school. Hope everyone has fun.)

The first week back in school was pretty average for me. Even though we started on the 6th, nothing happened until the 11th. That was the day of that big subway crash.

I remember I couldn’t sleep very well the night before, so I got up early to get ready. That was also the day that I emailed my boss to make sure my work schedule got changed.

“Thank you very much in advance,it was a pleasure to speak with you, [l/n] [y/n].”

After a quick read through, [y/n] rubbed the sleep out of her eyes and hit the enter key to send off her email. She pushed back from her simple desk and stood up, stretching deeply to further wake herself up. 

After quickly shutting the lid of her laptop, she crossed her room to don her school’s uniform and prepare for the day. ‘Did Hanabi ever bring back those nail gems of mine?’ She wondered, inspecting her faded manicure as she slipped on her ivory coloured socks.

For a brief minute, she debated styling her hair differently from normal, but after a failed attempt or two, she sighed and fell back on her usual look. A couple more layers, a bit of mascara and a spritz of perfume later and she was all ready to head out. Luckily, the walk from dorm to school building wasn’t intensive, and the mid-spring breeze kept her from feeling the slight discomfort of her new shoes as they rubbed up against her ankle. Less than five minutes later, she stood in front of the front entrance to Kosei High School.

It was only a few minutes into the first class of the week and already [y/n]’s phone was being bombarded by chats from her friends. Quietly, she slipped her phone out of her bag and began to read up on all she had missed. 

☆Momo 7.57 - There’s a criminal in my class this year. 😶

☆Hanabi 8.01 - ?? WDYM 

☆Momo 8.01 - I mean theres a kid with a criminal record who’s gonna transfer to Shujin this semester. 

☆Momo 8.01 - That’s what I heard at least but he hasn’t showed up yet so I wonder if Mishima was just trying to scare us lol.

☆Yuna 8.01 - You have Mishima in your class? And the transfer student???

☆Momo 8.02 - Yeah, he looks like he went to hell yesterday. What’s going on in your guys’ practices???

☆Yuna 8.02 - He just sucks lmao. Gets hit all the time.

☆Hanabi 8.03 - Which one was Mishima again? Did we see him at the tournaments last year?

☆Yuna 8.03 - He’s the kid with the short dark hair. He never got to play so you probably never saw him. Not like you went to watch the boys match anyway. 

☆Momo 8.03 - Yeah he was at the tournaments.

☆Hanabi 8.04 - He didn’t go to middle school with us, did he??

☆Momo 8.04 - Nah, I think he went to one in a different district. 

☆Yuna 8.04 - Thankfully!

☆Momo 8.05 - Thankfully?

☆Yuna 8.05 - Hes a total kiss ass.

☆Hanabi 8.05 - Yuck.

☆Momo 8.05 - Oh yeah..

☆Yuna 8.06 - I stayed up way too late last night, about to pass out in homeroom.

☆Hanabi 8.06 - Teacher is here, one sec.

☆Yuna 8.09 - Did [y/n] fall into a pit on her way to school or something? How come she hasnt said anything..

☆Hanabi 8.10 - Lol she’s probably just actually paying attention.

☆Momo 8.10 - Omg speaking of [y/n] I still need to send her the dates for the concert lol.

☆Yuna 8.11 - Why didn’t she just ask the director?

☆Momo 8.13 - Is Shiho in class today? I meant to ask her about her birthday plans but didn’t see her this morning. ☹️

☆Yuna 8.13 - Nah, she’s out today for a funeral.

☆Momo 8.21 - It was on the sign up sheet and the like every other paper we’ve gotten.

☆[y/n] 8.21 - I don’t have any of those with me, they’re at my mom’s house.

☆Momo 8.21 - then text your mom??

☆[y/n] 8.22 - :( 

☆Momo 8.22 - Whatever. It’s the 28th, 29th, and 30th of April.

☆[y/n] 8.23 - Thank you Momo, I love you <33

“[l/n] [y/n]?” A male voice rang out from beyond [y/n]’s screen. She quickly jolted in her seat, shoving her phone into her desk and looking up to acknowledge her teacher.

“I’m sorry, I don’t know what you said,” [y/n] said, her voice fading as her embarrassment set in.

“I can tell,” He responded, crossing his arms. “I just asked if you could could tell me what it is called when we do geometric calculations on a non-flat surface. ”

“That’s non-euclidean, I think..” She whispered. 

“Yes. Thank you very much Miss [l/n]. It would do you good to turn off your phone before class starts next time so you could answer the first time I ask,” he reprimanded, then turned to move away from her desk and back to the front of the room. 

Shifting down further into her seat, [y/n] focused her gaze to her legs so her peers would not see how red in the face she was. What a great start to the day…

“[y/n] are you working this weekend?” Hanabi asked as the two walked the halls during lunch time. 

“Yeah but I’m going to be Sundays only for the first couple weeks back,” [y/n] responded then took a quick sip of her drink.

“So you're free Friday afternoon? Cause I was thinking we could go and get our nails done professionally instead of just doing them ourselves."

"I have rehearsal right after school but I'd be free after 17."

"The salon I looked at closes at 20 so we're totally fine,” Hanabi smiled,”It’s only like a 7 minute walk from the station so I’ll just wait for you there.”

After a short silence, [y/n] sighed,“I’m so not ready for that performance.”

“Momo said there was gonna three nights of it, is that for real?”

“Yeah, I’m really not looking forward to it.”

“My brothers going to be back in town pretty soon so I might take him to watch you two.”

“You’d be better off watching a bunch of crickets hop around. It would probably be more to your liking anyway.”

“Yeah well the more you say that the more I want to go.”

“Aww Hanabi, come on!”

“Oh what’s that? Is the bell ringing? Well I guess i’ll get a head start and order my tickets on the way to class! See you [y/n]!”

All I could do was sigh and head back to my class. That concert ended up pretty good, but it was overshadowed by all that stuff with Mister Kamoshida.

The rest of that day was pretty uneventful. I just met all of my teachers and walked back to my dorm after school ended. Hanabi wanted me to run over to the store with her, but I was still pretty tired so I skipped out on it. 

After changing into a more comfortable outfit, [y/n] fell down onto the edge of her mattress and laid her head back as she let her body sink into the soft blankets and comforting scents. Her eyes fluttered shut for a moment, before a loud and obnoxious buzz reverberated throughout her body.

Groaning, she turned over and pulled out her phone, turned it to silent then skimmed through the notifications.

“Detective Prince Akechi on Mental Shutdowns: ‘It could happen to anyone’”

“Everything to know before watching ‘The Cake Knight Rises’”

“4 dead in subway accident, more injured. Driver comatose.”

Hah…

None of it was interesting in the slightest. 

Clear, clear, and clear!

Finally, [y/n] opened up her messages and scrolled up to check just how much she had missed after the morning.

☆Momo 13.13 - Transfer student came in after lunch, hes honestly kind of scary looking. Like disheveled almost. He didn’t even introduce himself either.

☆Yuna 13.14 - Kizana said she saw him come into the school with Sakamato. He still hasn’t showed up to class though so maybe he’s getting chewed out.

☆Momo 13.14 - Oh so he really is a delinquent. You think they were up to something or what?

☆Yuna 13.14 - No clue, but she said the same stuff you did. Told me he looked like he was gonna snap at any moment. 

☆Momo 13.15 - 😗

The rest of that week went by really quickly. I didn’t do anything out of the ordinary really. I did my best in class, did my best in practice, did my best to talk to the people around me. It felt like the year was going to be really uneventful to be honest, but all I really had to do was wait until that friday and everything really kicked off.

wicked chap 9 - end of galinda

- i take it back, galinda was not the once future ozma

- i am actually quite surprised. based on the limited things i’d seen of the musical and movie (i was trying to avoid spoilers) i’d assumed that galinda came from money and status, the daughter of a politician or someone high up in and near the wizard. but she’s from a farming town and a modest background, even if she does seem to come from at least some wealth? she’s a country gal.

- however, it already speaks to her character that she can’t empathise with dillamond on the impending dehumanisation (de-animalisation?) of the Animals. and also that she is a girly girl, bc who would think ‘stripes on the bias to their inborn design’ about zebras wearing striped suits

- and also these chapters speak to her need to be seen as someone influential and wanting to BE someone with influence, not just in sucking up to the rich girls, but also how she wants to make up a worldly-seeming saying about travel in order to seem worldly

- it speaks to galinda’s knowledge of art and architecture and fashion that i spent 10 mins at the beginning of this chapter searching up what words meant and then resigned myself to not knowing what the rest of the words in the chapter meant

- galinda babes u are never beating the gay allegation wdym you’re constantly thinking about how pretty your roommates hair is

- the scene where they start to become friends is so endearing. and galinda basically stumbles into it accidentally

- she is really putting herself into a double life here - genuinely enjoying her time w elphaba then pretending she hadn’t to buy herself social equity with the rich girls. and she is only friends w the rich girls for the social equity, one has to wonder if she even genuinely likes being friends with them

- it’s also interesting that we still haven’t had any of elphaba’s POV yet, continuing to distance us from her. it made sense when she was a baby, but now that she’s sentient it is even more obvious of an intentional choice

- i also love that there is so much politics weaved into this world and gently, slowly released to us one at a time. the paganism vs more recent unionist religion vs pleasure faith and tiktokism, and the government aspect of the wizard taking over the ozma’s reign, having our protagonists grow up during this change and be able to comment on both

- the tiktokism thing, again, like i was saying in the first post, it’s so interesting that there is a movement against ‘clockwork’ - it feels analogous to our worlds never-ending suspicion against modern technology, especially in the first years of technology booming, but even now. and again i wonder how it fits into the wizard, given (at least if we’re continuing the same lore as from the wizard of oz) that his spectacle (read: pleasure faith) relies on machinery (read: tiktokism)

- also very into the way this book discusses how politics works in the public - eg. the laws regarding Animals being passed but the girls not even knowing about it, whether that’s from wilful ignorance or if they’re kept from knowing.

- and it speaks volumes how these girls don’t seem to care. except elphaba. and galinda, who had such potential for empathy.

- seems very much to speak to how our governments treats underprivileged communities and further entrenches their disadvantage, and how those with privilege don’t know or don’t care

- i almost feel sorry for galinda, in her quest for greatness ending up being manipulated by the likes such as madame morrible (gee i hope it doesn’t keep going?)
