hiiiii audrey i’m seeing this post after literally 2 years so uh here’s your answer:

- 2020 (joss): this book was written prepandemic and was released on jan 1, 2020 so joss lives in a 2020 where there was no pandemic

- 2021 (kira): there is a passing reference to kira wearing a mask on the plane to australia but otherwise no mention of the pandemic

- 2022 (corinne): corinne is the first goty to address the pandemic at all, and her books refer to it in the past tense. corinne’s aspen has no covid restrictions but importantly her family lives in the aftermath of covid-related sinophobia. so, corinne is affected by the pandemic as a chinese american girl facing racism, but not by the virus itself.

- 2023 (kavi): i have only read kavi’s journal so far, but there appears to be no mention of the pandemic from what i can remember.

- 2024 (lila): same deal as kavi, i’ve skimmed lila’s journal but haven’t sat down and read in a meaningful way about her yet.
