I love fem! Stan. I feel like a major difference would be Ford realizing his feelings for Stan and accepting them WAY sooner.

So first things first, I 100% believe Ford would be WAY more possessive of Stan. Especially when they grow older and puberty hits. When they were younger Ford was able to see Stan as just his best friend, his twin, the one person who seemed to understand him. Love wasn’t really something he cared about, not when he had Stan by his side.

But as they grew older and Stan started *ahem* maturing, Ford realized his feelings were maybe a bit less platonic than he thought. When she started dating, Ford would go mental. He would try to convince Stan that they were just trying to use her for sex. Anytime she had a date he would have to know when and where it was happening so he could make sure she was safe. And whenever they inevitably broke up, he would wipe away her tears and tell her how she deserved so much better. That they were idiots for thinking they will ever do better then Stan.

And when Stan would fall asleep, Ford would be so smug. Every break up just proves how it’s supposed to be Stan and Ford. He would have never left her for something as petty and idiotic as “holding out,” on him. Stan and his first time would be precious, something memorable and romantic. Just like how Stan likes it.

(Never mind most of Stans high school relationships ended because Ford was driving her boyfriends away with his possessiveness.)

And when Stan saves Ford from the portal? He goes absolutely feral at how well Stan has aged. She’s just as beautiful as the day he lost her.

Here’s some general head canons I have for fem! Stan:

- 100% chubby queen and we love her for it

- She secretly did boxing, but also did ballet because her Ma wanted her to

- Just like canon Stan (at least in my mind), she has been in love with Ford since childhood

- her homeless years were ROUGH, even worse then canon Stan’s (being a homeless teenager in the 70’s with no high school diploma is bad, being a girl on top of that makes it worse.)

- has a tattoo on her crotch (because I said so)

- still strong as hell, like she deserves !!

i agree with your takes on dragon age's relationship with queer content a lot. a straight female inquisitor (bonus point if elf) gets the most romance options, zevran and leliana's romance feels secondary *by narrative* compared to romances of characters who's a warden/king alistair and morrigan, sebastian being bisexual being a cut content*

* i just don't get it why the templar boys always got to be straight. like why can't men engage with their romances and experience this narrative when chantry and religion is so important for the story of these games? after all romance adds a different perspective for all characters.

here we have veilguard, the pansexual crew, and well... the romance content is the weakest in franchise

and i'm not saying queer romances were bad btw!! its just that i wish people who wants to play mlm or wlw get to see such perspectives in the story or these characters' stories too. like a male warden romancing alistair and all the juicy stuff that comes with it (the hurt or angst or the complications. are you sparing loghain? did you just marry the love of your life off to his sister-in-law for the future of your beloved country? did he become a drunkard visiting bars after bars because of the decisions you made even tough you were intimate?)

no exactly! i do tend to want to give them some slack given they're very Of Their Time (for a 2009 game even including bisexual options was scandalous, and dorian's bare bones coming out narrative was pretty standard for 2013 tv shows / rare in aaa games) but it annoys me when people act like they're these flawless beacons of queer rep that you can't criticise just because we should be happy with being given anything at all. even if you don't count seb, 1/2 of the games pretty much require you to play an f/m relationship in order to experience a narratively relevant relationship. i find dai more insidious tbh because like... sure, don't make solas bi for whatever reasons you want to give. but cass and blackwall? there's 0 reason for them to be straight lol. (especially the bait and switch where you're allowed to flirt with cass as a woman for AGES before she turns you down despite characters like cullen shutting you down on the first flirt. it's funny when you do it intentionally but just feels cruel otherwise?) at least leliana and zevran feel like they're doing the most they were allowed to do

a gay or bisexual chantry/templar character who struggles with their sexuality would be SO interesting. honestly it would require more introspection about thedas' attitude towards sexuality than da has ever done - i feel like they could have done a fun subplot with this in da2 honestly.

and the thing about the dav characters is... they went to great lengths to make sure they avoided the playersexual allegations, multiple characters had a past where they dated people of various genders, taash having a preference for women was mentioned (in the weirdest way possible) but i still... don't know how they feel about their sexuality at all? neve is a tevinter mage, did her liking women play a part in her seeing through the issues with the system? does bellara have any lingering feelings about irelin at all? did harding realise she didn't have to be straight when she joined the inquisition and met people outside of her small ferelden town? (potential extra dialogue for an f/f romancing inquisitor???) it doesn't need to be a big Thing, but just a one-off dialogue during romance (davrin m/m exclusive dialogue on your date: "the first time i brought a man to meet my uncle i was so nervous etc etc") or a comment during a banter. it just establishes a little bit more about the characters and stops them feeling so flat... then again ig that's an issue with the whole game LOL.

I saw that some people here are worried that glorious rivals might be NA, because of the deleted scene of tgg and I wanted to explain why I highly doubt it.

First off, there are different levels of YA. A book which has target audience 12 yo will be different than one with target audience 18 yo. I'm pretty sure that the tig saga in general is something in between.

This means that there are different 'spice' levels in YA (tho I wouldn't call them spice, since it's still YA). It's a wide age range, from 12-18 (correct me if I'm wrong), therefore it has different intensity levels. For example, the Shatter me series is also YA and I think we can say that it was more explicit than the deleted tgg scene of Rohan and Savannah. Even then, there are still 13 year olds reading it and it's not a problem, because it still isn't NA, the scenes don't describe the actions after make out and undressing, which is exactly what YA means. Just because the make out session is a little bit more intense and is suggesting further action, it doesn't mean it's NA unless the further action is described explicitly.

Secondly, even if she wanted to separate the two trilogies (which would be a very bad idea on her part, because she'd lose most of her audience, so I doubt it), the first book of the second trilogy (aka tgg) is still YA, she can't say "oh, you read the cliffhanger from book 1 but can't read book 2 because you're underage, even tho I said that you can read the series". Authors don't just change the age rating of the books mid series. Between series of the same saga, possibly, even if it risky (the whole losing audience thing), but definitely not in the middle of a series.

It's okay if you're uncomfortable with higher levels of YA (which, honestly, it's looking like we'll get there in the next book, that I can't deny), but you can't say it's not appropriately rated, because she's just changing the intensity, not skipping to the next rating.

So, yeah, I don't think glorious rivals or any future book from the saga will be NA, I don't think she'd risk losing most of her audience. Even if she's targeting older audiences on purpose by potentially switching to NA, it wouldn't be in this saga, because people who read NA probably wouldn't read 5 books of YA before they get to the NA book. It would be a lose-lose for jlb to do that, so I don't think we have any reason to freak out about the age ratings.

She's just changing the intensity. Again, it's understandable if you're uncomfortable with higher levels, but it still counts as YA. YA doesn't mean only having a 1 paragraph long kiss every once in a while, for some books it means sexual tension without action, or the characters doing it, but only having their emotions described instead of the action itself (again, I'm giving Shatter me as an example of such YA book).

One thing that I think muddies the water re: SQQ acting like a buffoon is that he’s much more physically expressive in the donghua? In a very comical and memorable way, like chugging the medicine he tries to give Luo Binghe when the system is about to doc him points, noticing it’s for external use only, and then visibly fainting in front of Ming Fan and Luo Binghe. He’s much more of a clown, and it’s mostly in good fun, even if it’s not accurate to the book. Thinking about it more, my ideal adaptation would have SQQ properly maintaining his immortal facade at all times, but also include an expressive chibi version of himself acting out his inner thoughts and yelling at the system constantly. Only the audience would see his flailing, and also probably SQH when he’s introduced. Also! Showing him get more expressive with Binghe as book 3 goes on and he lets out more of his real personality around him.

that's a really good point about the donghua! I'm charmed by how SQQ is in the donghua because he's such a fucking loser (affectionate) but it definitely isn't very accurate to the novel. tbh the difference between SQQ's inner monologue vs outward appearance/actions is one of the things that makes it hard to adapt from a written form! having a little chibi SQQ to express his inner thoughts is an option, or hiding his expressions behind his fan or waiting until he's alone to scream into a pillow or something lsdkjflksdjf it's tough! it's really one of those things that works best as a book, which is such a shame because GOD i want to see so much of it visually

also him being more expressive with Binghe as their relationship develops is really good :') especially post-canon! Binghe complains that SQQ smiles more at other people, can you imagine what it'll be like once SQQ starts letting more of those walls down and fully grins at him while teasing him? I think Binghe would just straight up short circuit for a second

this is subject to change once we see more of the new storyline, but eden's demeanor and personality post-penacony would change quite significantly from what we have seen prior. those who had met her before penacony and had formed a solid enough bond with her would be able to notice this change. prior to the events in penacony, eden was fairly trusting and open with strangers. she had no problem approaching others or open up about herself if she deemed the individual trustworthy enough by her standard. however, after penacony ( or at least up to the current point in time of 2.0 update ), eden will be less open and much more cautious when it comes to strangers. i'm still not sure yet how the event and story would unfold from here, but i can say for certain that the recent happenings and experience in the dreamscape will change the way i write eden with others. i'll list significant changes below ( to be updated & subjected to change ) :

overall less open, less trusting, more cautious. less optimistic, more realistic.

more observant, pays more attention to both her own body language and other's.

less energetic demeanor. more reserved. dimmer light in her golden eyes.

no longer quick to get attached, keeps distance with people.

is still blunt and forward at times but choose her words much more carefully.

more averse to physical touches when it comes to strangers / acquaintances. does not flinch away from challenging or daring touches but will brush away friendly touches / intimacy unless she truly trusts the individual.

quite self-conscious about the stellaron scar on her chest.

actively tries to be more analytical and less instinctual ( heavily situational. emphasis on actively trying. she's instinctual by nature, she's attempting to go against it and be more analytical. )

please note that these changes may or may not be long-term due to recent experience and exposure. this is a defense mechanism for eden. it's a change she felt the need to adapt in order to keep going and to survive this journey. she's still learning and developing as story goes, i just feel that i should write it out because it's heavily affecting how i'd write her interacting with other muses.

as mentioned, muses who met her prior to penacony will be able to notice the change ( including any hsr muses before introduction of penacony and her ship partners. ) whether you have your muses acknowledge it in our interactions / conversations is completely optional ! any new meetings that takes place post-penacony will have her new demeanor active. no prior relationships will be affected, of course. how she behaves with those she trusts wouldn't change much ( but that also depends on how deep the bond goes. ) so mostly it's new meetings / acquaintances that would be affected by this change the most !

sorry for the long read — i actually still have a lot to unpack regarding why and how these changes come about ( it's not just penacony, but its something accumulated over time. penacony events are just the trigger for it. ) but i'll get into that in a separate post because this is already lengthy hjklhjkl thank you for reading !

Let's talk 1920's USA🎼🎶🎷🎺🍻🥃🥂:

Guzma is a bootlegger. He started out solo but gained the trust and admiration of many if his peers and is now the head of the gang that bootlegs in that area. He goes by many names like The Boss, Don G, and The Passing Don, to name a few.

Leon is a jazz pianist. Although well known and loved in Europe for the classics, he immigrated to the US to pursue his passion for jazz. He faced far more discrimination due to the color of his skin in this country, making it difficult to get a foothold anywhere. He mainly plays for pennies at illegal speakeasies these days. He's very well liked by patrons for his upbeat personality and "exotic" good looks. His jazz nickname is "Champ"

Plumeria is a suffragette that frequents Guzma's main hang out. She's a sharp tongue and a very good card player. Guzma quickly learns to play her for drinks and not cold hard cash (or, worse, the shirt off his back).

Kukui was recently discharged from the Navy and currently works as a tailor. He comes to the speakeasy regularly to drink away his sorrows and flirt with the dancers.

Kalani is a mechanic who moonlights as a bar tender at the speakeasy. He's also not above helping Guzma out with those rattling vehicles that certainly don't have secret compartments he's installed to smuggle booze.

Raihan was a praised scholar over in Europe, but after immigrating, the best he can land is a job as a barber. The bar is a sweet reprieve from reality.

Piers is a jazz trumpeter. He use to be a jazz singer as well, however, he's decided to live life as the man he is and although he's successfully adjusted his speaking voice with practice, he is unable to make his singing voice sound any less feminine. He focuses solely on his horn now. Although, there's rumors that he will sing private encores for those few he truly trusts.

Imma write a little taste of this AU under the readmore:

Leon wiped the sweat from his brow before placing it back into the pocket of his suit with shaky hands. He's performed in front of audiences of hundreds of people! So, why is simply standing at an unmarked back door in a back alleyway getting to him?

He took a deep breath and patted his cheeks with his palms, an old habit that's become a ritual before every performance. In this case, it helps him keep his bloody nerves, if only a little.

Finally, he knocks on the door and does his best to straighten his suit.

After a moment of no response, Leon is about to knock again when a voice from the other side gruffly demands, "Password."

"P-password?" he replies dumbly.

"No password, no entry."

"Wait! I'm no with the police! A friend telt me ye have a piano? I'm just looking for a gig's all!"

Leon held his breath. There was mumbling on the other side of the door. It sounded like two voices. He looked over his shoulders and then gently pressed his ear to the door.

"...we been lookin' for someone casual. Keep the patrons entertained between sets."

"How ya know he's legit?! Could just be tryna get free booze! And what's with that voice? Queerest Brit I've ever heard!"

The next voice he heard he's certain he would've heard clearly even if he wasn't pressed up against the door:

"ACE! BLACLJACK! What the hell are you numbskulls arguing about this time?"

"There's some kid at the door," the more nasally 'numbskull' explains, "says he plays da keys."

Next thing Leon knew, the door gave way and he stumbled forward, the side of his face landing squarely in the broad chest of a man with a spotless, white suit with hair to match.

Leon quickly scrambled backwards, apologizing profusely.

The man roared with laughter and grabbed the young man by the front of his shirt, practically dragging him through the door.

"He's a bit of a gongoozler as well, eh? But tell you what, kid, I'll let it slide this time since you're so damn pretty." The man winked, and every nerve in Leon's body felt like it was lit aflame.

The man put his hand at Leon's mid back and began to lead him down a dimly lit hallway.

"You sure 'bout lettin' him in here?" the same 'numbskull' from before asked as they walked.

"Ace, the kid says he plays the keys. So let 'im play the keys! If it turns out he's lyin'-"

"We can just kick 'is ass later!" finished the other 'numbskull'.

The white-haired man waggled a finger at him with a grin on his face. "See? Blackjack knows what's up."

They arrived in a large room with a bar, some tables, a decent size stage, and a grand piano sitting just below it.

Being early in the day, there were not many people here. The dark skinned bartender eyed him from where he wiped down the bar. A couple patrons were passed out, bottle or glass in hand. In the very back corner booth, a group of men in suits quietly played cards. One, whose suit could only be described as cut sharp as a razor, appeared to be winning.

As they made their way to the piano, the man's hand still resting gently at the small of Leon's back, said man asked him, "What's your drink?"

"Oh...uh...whisky, I guess."

He called over for the bartender to pour a glass before setting a firm hand on each of Leon's shoulders and forcing him to sit on the piano bench.

Next thing he knew, a lowball glass was thrust into his hand. Without thinking, he started throwing it back.

"A'right, a'right, take it easy, kid," the white haired man scolded, a bit of amusement in his voice, snatching the glass from his hand and setting it up on top of the piano. "You play good, you can have the rest and then some, eh?"

"O-oh! Richt! Umm... what do ye want meh to play?"

"Whatever ya got," he replies cooly, leaning an elbow on the piano, "You sing too?"

"I... umm... I mean... I can... it just... isnae onything special."

The man hummed in thought.

"Alright then. Just play us somethin', don't worry 'bout singin'. If I happen to know it, maybe I'll sing with ya. Sound good?"

"Aye- er... yeah. Ok."

Leon took a breath to center himself. This is the easy part. All he's gotta do is focus on his playing and lose himself in it. Luckily, the few ounces of liquor he just ingested seemed to be helping his nerves as well.

He didn't really think about which song to play; he just started playing and hoped for the best. The tall man seemed to perk up with interest.

Next thing Leon knew, a deep sultry voice sang:

"There was a boy

A very strange enchanted boy

They say he wandered very far

Very far

Over land and sea

A little shy

And sad of eye

But very wise was he-"

Transfixed on the handsome man singing just in his peripheral vision, Leon failed to notice all the heads turning their way, some even beginning to nod in approval or sway to the deliciously languid rhythm.

As a professional, Leon didn't waver as the white-haired man moved to stand behind him, placing a large hand on each of his shoulders. Although, it didn't stop the hair on the back of his neck from standing on end.

see the longer I play with my understanding of my transmasc experience and dysphoria, the more I grapple with the conflict between mocking fragile masculinity for refusing to allow the use of 'feminine' things vs knowing more and more keenly how much dysphoria I would and do get whenever someone associates something I do or use or wear with femininity. and no amount of people insisting that using "feminine" things doesn't invalidate someone's gender, man or otherwise, seems to have any impact on that dysphoria

we do need to untangle cultural perceptions of masculine vs feminine and respect for a person's gender, manhood in particular in this discussion, but I almost feel like knowing that means it's my responsibility to refuse to engage with those ideas for my own gender — and the problem is that knowing this is not the common understanding means knowing that other people *will* associate my use of feminine things as some sort of contradiction with any masculinity I may wish to express or identify with, and no amount of understanding the concepts and holding the principles can erase the revulsion and pain and fear I feel at the thought of people associating me with some concept of womanhood that I adamantly *do not experience or identify with.* fuck.
