There's so many levels of awesomeness to this. First you have to know the art piece, "The Wave of Kanagawa," then you have to seamlessly integrate the Pokemon, then you have to adjust it to cross-stitch pattern so that it doesn't get too pixelated. Freaking genius!

One of my favorite patterns I've ever done, but working on this fabric was a nightmare 😅 It was my first linen and I think it was just slightly too loose of a weave. But I'm so glad I pushed through and it's so amazing finished! I made the shiny gyarados and magikarp in etoile so they're actually shiny!
Pattern: “Pokémon Great Wave” from XStitchCollective on Etsy, based on art by Missypena Fabric: 2x2 on 36ct PTP Dapple Linen Started: 2/16/2020 Finished: 4/7/2023

Another non-requested set 💗 I really like doing these sets based on famous art lately, I hope it’s not too repetitive if I make it a little collection.
Also in this collection: Starry Night and Irises

So here it is, my great mystery project - now finished!
On my search for a new crochet project that's at least sort of unique, I had the insane idea to recreate one of my favourite works of art. And well, I did. I'm honestly pretty proud of this one too because it took obviously quite a bit of effort and I'm still a beginner at crochet. Well, I'm sure someone else did it before and most likely even better, but if so I couldn't find it ;) (Not even a crochet pattern for the full thing!)
And because my photo skills aren't the best, just as usual...here's another photo taken with flash where you can actually see the stitches pretty well. Not sure if you should actually look at them closely though, lol.

A photo of what looks like a dragon on Mt Fuji believed to be taken on Nov 28, 2024 circulated around Japanese social media, SNS.
Japanese point out the uncanny resemblance to painting of a dragon on Mt Fuji by an ukiyo-artist during Edo Period named, Katsushika Hokusai, known for his iconic painting of Kanagawa Wave.
According to Japanese folktales, legend has it that after the Dragon appeared, it means Mt Fuji will erupt again. Which is scary when you think about it. So I hope not! PLEASE DON'T. 😱😂
I think it's interesting when you realized that some old paintings are not purely fantasy or product of their own imagination, the artists simply paint WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE to them when they saw it.
When legend say it will erupt after the dragon appeared, it might be the smoke or gas that they see which looks like a dragon. As volcano usually erupts after the smoke or gas appears.
So I hope that is not a smoke or gas, and just clouds. I only know about the legend after watching a comedy mystery jdrama, starring Masami Nagasawa, who talks about it. 😂

I messed up a couple of times and will get the boat aligned better next time but, fuck it, it doesn't have to be perfect. I am giving myself the grace and joy of learning through practice.
