Cave fish time!!

Cryptotora thamicola or the waterfall climbing cave fish are extremely rare, found in only eight caves on the border of Thailand and Myanmar. Like most cave fish they are blind and pigmentless but what makes them special is there ability to cling to walls and climb up flowing water.

So from left to right

Dream is a golden colored koi carp fish, I picked it because they are very pretty and they represent a lot of positive things like luck and fortune, some people even wish on them to make their dreams come true :> I also thought of the legend where a golden koi fish climbs a large waterfall to turn into a dragon, so they have some mythical legends as well. In terms of the actual fish, Koi are very sociable and sturdy, they also live for quite awhile.

Nightmare is a coelacanth, he should probably be an octopus considering he has tentacles, but I really wanted to make him a coelacanth because I think they are neat. Coelacanth's are very old with the latest fossils being over 400 million years old, they were thought to be extinct until one was found in 1938, grandpa nightmare. They are also nocturnal, sleeping in caves during the day, they live deep in the ocean as well. 

Fresh is actually a two in one, he is a rainbow parrotfish with a tongue-eating louse in his mouth. Out of alI the bright fish I did a parrotfish because I really like their gradients, and I think the magenta fins fit his jacket. He's a parasite inside of a Sans body, so I picked a fish parasite to go along with the fish half of his body. I chose the tongue-eating louse, a type of parasite that replaces a fish's tongue. It first severs the blood vessels to the tongue and once it falls off takes its place. feeding on nutrients and acting as a new tongue for the rest of the fish's life, very cool and terrifying.

it is my honor to introduce you to the waterfall climbing cave fish, a rare species of stygofauna (subterranean river-dwelling creature) from Thailand. A unique limb structure allows it to cling to rock and navigate flowing water.

So is that pretend marriage Cyber au in space, does that mean Smokescreen is the normal one while Optimus and June is that weird couple that vibes on a different level?

If this is the Do As the Romans Had Done idea, then yeah. Optimus is just that buff need that's really quiet and serious, yet unintentional feral and/or terrifying. And June, while able to blend into mundane societies, has a really broken scale of a Danger sense.

I'm definitely keeping it as Other!Au, but now I'm leaning that June comes from a long line of magic-users: alchemists, sorcerers, enchanters, and what not. Think of them between deep in the mystical many-kinds-of-arts and unhinged field work scientists.

And that's why June isn't too freaked out about everything because this species-swap with an impromptu space adventure isn't the weirdest shit that happened in the family.

Smokescreen is the normal guy from a civilization that fell to an inconceivable scale of planet-wide infighting, but he attributes any weirdness from the others as "Oh, they used to humans, so it's a learning curve" and "Primes doing Prime-things."

Meanwhile, Optimus is climbing extreme cliffs to reach a stray goat without a by-your-leave or safety rigging and more than capable of fishing with his bare hands off a waterfall to use it as a teaching moment for vocabulary and anatomy structures for the kids.

June, while is more affable and likes chit-chat over recipes and the weather, is also the person that made a deal with a fae that's an Archivist in a forgotten library beneath a massive cave system to hunt down extremely rare specimens that were once predominant in textile spellcraft for protection and health. That deal ended with Jack, by the way, so he's still a spooky fae-child.

Smokescreen is deeply engrossed by Optimus in a bar: really terrible at small talk but more than able to consume fuel that's used for stripping rust infections from a tank without a grimace and starts a fist fight when someone tries to drug another person's drink without them knowing.

June is in a shadowy corner doing a secret handshake with an indescribable stranger because she recognizes their cloak's stitching and scented tobacco from her (several greats) grandmother's fellowship. Now she's back to doing odd jobs or quests.

Smokescreen rationalizes it that June was a medical professional for humans, so it isn't too out of the realm why she's interested into toxins because he's more distracted by Optimus dropping bombs that he consumed hallucinogens as a sparkling and managed to survive to make to Iacon.

The Astral Plane is beautiful. Saga tells Gale so. She thanks him for the experience, for sharing this time with her as they float in the translucent sea together. He slips his learned, delicate hands into hers, calloused and broad, and squeezes. They tell each other that they are enough, as they are.

She loses his gaze to the shifting colors of the Astral Plane and makes a promise to herself.

The next morning Saga packs a small tote bag. Bread, cheese, cider. The rest of lunch she can find along the way. She knows Gale doesn't move fast or well over rough ground, so she picks a trail flat enough for her purpose.

Gale only pitches well-mannered fits twice, but she tells him to be patient. It'll be worth it.

It is.

The astonished look on his face as they crest this trail makes her feel less guilty about the stitch in his side that he digs his fist into.

The rushing waterfall is thunderous from their cliff-side vantage point. Cold spray glitters in the air, catching the suns rays and breaking them into a thousand colors.

"This is beautiful," Gale says between wheezes.

Saga takes his hand and leads him a few feet further up the trail to a perfect spot to overlook the valley. She sets out a simple meal of what she brought and what she gathered on the way: salmon berries, miner's lettuce, violets, honeycomb.

She drizzles the honey and violets over the pot of soft cheese. They dip torn pieces of bread into it. Salty. Sweet. Herbaceous.

"I had imagined that wooing a ranger would come with it's own particular set of challenges, but if your goal was to get me alone, there are much easier ways of doing that rathet than asking me to scale a mountain," Gale teases as he pops a berry into his mouth. He squints as the tartness hits his tongue, and relaxes as the sweetness blooms after.

Saga sucks her teeth, brushing off his chiding. Instead she scoots closer to him, draping one arm around his waist and pointing out to the river below with her other hand. She revels in the feeling of him leaning against her. His breath on her cheek.

From where they sit she points out the stories that she can see written in the damp earth, broken twigs, dead grass, moss, and climbing vines.

“Elk cross there every other tenday."

Gale recites the binomial nomenclature for elk, Saga corrects him.

“Red elk, not Marsh Elk. Those are further south."

Gale corrects himself and recites the binomial for red elk.

“A hunter has taught her daughter how to hunt those elk. Just as her mother taught her. There's their blind.”

Saga points to a cluster of rushes next to an old oak tree.

“The scat from the herd fertilizes the water and those berry bushes.”

Eel grass languidly sways in the river's current. Glinting silver fish dart between the thick, green blades of the eel grass.

“These... berries?” Gale hesitates with a handful of yellow and orange salmon berries.

“Those berries.” She snatches one from his palm and bites down until it bursts tart and sweet in her mouth.

She nods southerly, “Look at the entrance to the cave. The bear sow had her tenth cub this spring. She brought down an elk recently. See the bones?”

“These leaves?” Saga plucks a handful of spade-shaped leaves from the bush nearby. She rolls them between her calloused fingers and breathes in their scent, before placing them under Gale’s nose. It smells like mossy pepper and golden melon. Interesting.

She cups the leaves in her palm, “Water,” she commands in a tone that is sweet for her.

With just a flick of his wrist, the leaves float in a pool of cool, clear water. She claps her hands together, rubbing them vigorously before revealing that her palms covered in milky suds.

“Soap.”

“Ah! For washing up! How fascinating,” Gale drags his fingers through the suds, rubbing them between his fingertips, testing the viscosity.

Saga takes a deep breath. Words aren't as easy for her as they are for Gale, “The Astral Plane is wonderful. You showed me that. Just don’t... don't forget about this plane, yeah? It’s just as magical. In its way.”

“So I'm learning," he chirps. “Turns out? Some of my favorite people are here. Somehow you keep finding new ways of teaching me that.”

Gale's smile is bright, earnest. It cauterizes a rotten part of her urges.

“With all that being said, can you promise me something?” he sidles up to her.

She scowls. Promises are heavy things.

“Can you promise me that you'll bring me on another one of your highly educational field trips of the famed Material Plane? I mean the view, the ecology lesson, the meal? The company?” He softens his voice to a whisper shared between the two of them, “I can't wait to see more of it.”

Saga smirks. She tips his pretty head back with only a finger under his chin. His kisses are berry-sweet, honey-sticky, and plentiful.

╰┈➤ ❝ [Blunderlands Forest] ❞

A dangerous and frightening forest. Each decade, the forest grows closer to the town and overtakes the farmlands, despite people trying to trim it down. It escalates up the mountain, shadowing the town and reminding residents of their small size. It holds many secrets and pieces of history, that new residents have no idea about. If you look closely, you might see mushrooms or plants moving in weird ways, as if avoiding humans.

╰┈➤[1] The Pit

A place where bad influences tend to hang out - a safe area where people can do drugs, drink freely, and blast annoyingly loud music. Covered in spray painted artwork, huge sticks positioned into makeshift statues, and trash littered all over the place. It borders on the Blunderlands Forest entrance, so most people are too nervous to approach, making it perfect for people to let loose and have fun.

╰┈➤[2] Abandoned Shed

Right on the edge of the forest, this is an unknown and suspicious shed. No one has went in for decades. Covered in weeds, vines, and tall grass. Even people with experience in the forest don't go anywhere near this shed.

╰┈➤[3] Glass Pond

A crystal clear pond with several beautiful fish, where the rocks carry a beautiful non-metallic luster. The waters filter from further into the forest from the Magma Doluit Deam, leaving it with a glittery shimmer. Sometimes, college students will swim and skinny dip, though residents push people not to go near it. Anything near the Blunderlands Forest is always risky to examine... but the water is eerily hypnotizing.

╰┈➤[4] Mountain Strip

A cliff with vertical rock, steep and intimidating. It has beautiful grooves that stretch all around the mountain. Before the forest escalated further into the farmlands, residents used to rock climb the strip, but now sits unused.

╰┈➤[5] Magma Doluit Deam

A statue depicting the leading religious diety of Casus, Doluit Deam. The Goddess' eyes drip with a metalic, shiny fluid, pouring into her hand and into the waters below, a beautiful waterfall with emotional implications. It was built several centuries ago and was worshiped by residents before the forest overgrew the area, with the water being used for several rituals. Now it is largely forgotten by residents, hidden within the forest and untouched for generations. The water is like a reflective mirror, filtering all throughout the town...

╰┈➤[6] Priestess Quentin's Castle

An abandoned castle, overgrown with weeds. Used to house the reigning Priestess of Casus Vallis, Priestess Quentin. Leading the land over the 19th century, she was said to have a personal connection to the Doluit Deam. Monarchy was introduced to Casus by settlers, and Priestess Quentin was a native villager who used her connections to rule the town peacefully. Histories don't know exactly how the Priestess passed, but some claim she was assassinated for her radical and progressive views. Almost immediately after her passing, the college was in works to be planned by a stranger.

Used to be a campground when the forest was not as scary. Before the woods overgrew the area, the campground was bustling. Now it is simply an empty clearing, with plant life refusing to grow. Casus history books claim that the Priestess and her knight often rested in this clearing, sharing romantic moments... though they were star-crossed lovers.

A huge pool of water, murky and stinky. While Glass Pond is clear and safe to drink, Dead Man's Pond is full of filth and dead fish. Gas emanates from the waters, and any bugs that fly by die pretty quickly. The waters filter from the Magma Doluit Deam. Surprisingly, the only living creatures are frogs and toads, which do not follow a normal diet. Suspicious...

A cave where Dead Man's Pond's waters filter through. The cave drips with red, harsh-smelling fluid, and has the nickname 'Bleeding Cave' or 'Decomp Cave'. People don't like it because it stinks REAL bad in there, but there is a lot of plant life and creatures to explore.

Filled with amphibians and filth, the Marshlands is largely avoided. Back in the late 1960s, a man and his lover were murdered on the land, their bodies decomposing into the marsh and only being found months later. People say his spirit still stalks the waters, so people don't get too close. The cave and marsh are closely connected, all the waters coming from the Magma Doluit Deam.

The home of Seth Willow. Nobody talks to him, nobody knows him. People who have seen him claim he doesn't age, and has lived there for decades. Don't get close to him.

Anyways, some notes on my design:

The Earthshaker made his first children beautiful, but they turned out to be fragile. Not wanting them to be hurt, he hid them away but they were forgotten by the outside world

Fins, large eyes for retaining light + 2 pincers based on Axolotl, Waterfall climbing cave fish, and Cave lobster. Kinda based more on precious stone brittleness than actual rocks.

They can't fly, but use their fins to climb

Another speculative radiodont/anomalocarid!

This is Geometerocaris chaaci

(Earth-measuring shrimp of Chaac, the Mayan god of rain)

These amphibious radiodonts live in pools near the mouths of caves that are fed by waterfalls and cascades. The mouth and caudal fins of these creatures have been modified into suckers that they use to climb up the slippery rocks of the waterfall inchworm-style by alternately attaching one sucker to the surface while moving the other part of the body forward. This movement gives the creatures their genus name as”geometer” refers to moths that have inchworm caterpillars, which appear to “measure the Earth” with their distinctive gait.

This radiodont also uses the spines on its Great Appendages to give it a better grip on the algae-coated rocks as it climbs. Once a Geometerocaris reaches a good spot on the rocks it turns around and, hanging solely by its caudal fin sucker, spreads its feathery Great Appendages to catch insects and debris that tumble down the waterfall.

Geometerocaris was inspired by waterfall climbing cave fish Cryptotora thamicola, a loach endemic to caves in Thailand that crawls up underground waterfalls using its pectoral and pelvic fins like legs. I originally had my speculative radiodonts moving in the same manner, but I eventually decided to give them a more inchworm or leech-like method of movement.

Undertale Sans - It's sunny, there's a big rock in the sun... Sans sits there for a while, trying to resist the urge to sleep, then he lays on his back, then he snores there for the rest of the day, only waking up when it's time to eat or when Toriel comes to check on him to make sure he's not dead from time to time.

Undertale Papyrus - He's having a sportive day with Undyne. After a several hours footing following the river, they decided to come back to their friend by swimming, which seemed like a good idea when Undyne enthusiastically proposed it, but actually, Papyrus is so light and can't float and he is instantly taken away by the flow. Undyne is desperatly trying to catch him as Papyrus is just: screaming.

Undertale Toriel - She's doing flowers crowns and checks more or less on everyone once in a while to make sure everyone is having fun. She even convinced Sans in the end to go swim with her, even if all Sans did was sit in her back and snore while she was doing all the work.

Undertale Asgore - He tried to fish with Gerson, but, uh... Neither of them are really good at that. No fish is biting, and they're kinda desperate, so they're sharing old memories together, hoping something will bite eventually.

Undertale Undyne - After losing Papyrus in the water, Undyne is determined to save him. But, uh, she actually swimmed in a very strong current and now both her and Papyrus are struggling to save their butts. They both fell silent when they heard a waterfall, before screaming like hell when they fell from 10 meters without any warning. After that, they managed to get out of the water. They spend the rest of the day trying to go back to the others... and ending getting both lost in the forest because they can't get agree on the direction to follow. They will for sure remember this day.

Undertale Alphys - She followed Mettaton in a cave exploration and she is regretting it so much. Mettaton kinda forgot her after some time and now she is lost, all alone. At least she found shiny weird pretty stones to gift to Undyne, but still, she has no idea how to get out of here. As she keeps walking for two hours, she finally find fresh air again, only to fall on two very wet Undyne and Papyrus, trying so hard to act like nothing is wrong and that they are not lost at all. Undertale Frisk - They're exploring the forest, searching for cool animals to see. They then got abducted by a pack of wolfs who think they're a puppy, and they're surprisingly okay with that, wondering how the hell it happened. At least, they can pet the big dogs for hours so they are very happy. They're mad when Toriel says it's time to go and that they can't take their new found family of wolfes home.

Undertale Chara - They took a lot of books with them to read under the trees and gets inspired by the nature around. It was nice and relaxing, was because then Asriel challenged them to climb one of the bigger tree, and they both decided to do it, screaming taunts at each other. Funny story, they got stuck. They had to wait for Sans to wake up to put them down with his blue magic while he was punning them to death as a punishment. What an humiliation.

Undertale Mettaton - He thought visiting a cave would be entertaining, turns out there was nothing of interest and he got bored, so he left. He only remembered two hours later that Alphys came with him and panicked when he couldn't find her anyway. Keeping the brave face, he took out his phone and decided to stream his searches on Instagram so he doesn't panick all alone. He never found her again and was about to announce his defeat when Papyrus, Undyne and Alphys came out of the bushes. AH! SEE! He's a superstar, he found them all by himself, he is truly a legend. What would people do without him?

Undertale Gaster - He didn't come. He didn't want to die thank you very much.

Undertale Grillby - He made the food and he's making sure everyone stays hydrated. This is kinda a failure as after only a few hours, everyone went different ways and half of the group is missing, nowhere to be find. Oh well. At least he can enjoy some silence for once. But then he couldn't remember if he switched off the lights in his restaurants and couldn't think about anything but this the rest of the day.

Undertale Muffet - She came only to hire more spiders for her bakery and really doesn't care about all of the others. She's in the woods, somewhere, interviewing little and bigger spiders for the job. The other will sure have a surprise when she asks where she can put her 600 new spiders in the car.

Undertale Burgerpants - He can't believe he's having a day off and he's still passing it near his tyrannic boss. What is wrong with him? When he saw Mettaton go live on Instagram, he instinctively started to watch as he does usually and moderate the chat. When he realises he is working and won't get pay for this, he screams and throws his phone in the water. Before realising he just throw his phone in the water and panicks. He spends the day searching the water for his phone, and he doesn't even like water. It got worse when his pants got hooked by Asgore and he suddenly became a catfish for the king. He wants to cry.

Undertale Asriel - He had fun climbing trees in the forest, so he invited Chara to do it with him. That didn't go well, but at least he got his sibling all for himself for four hours to talk. Well, Chara screamed at him and his stupid plans for a while, and after that pout like a child, but eh, that's some sort of sibling hang out?

Undertale Gerson - He died of laughter when, after six hours of waiting awkwardly in silence, Asgore fished Burgerpants. That's it, this was the last part of his sanity. He's losing it. After that, he can't stop teasing poor Burgerpants to death by telling him very weird stories of his childhood no one wants to listen anyway. Damn, that's a pretty good day.

Day 2 of Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

- okay so I’m on a cliff. Instead of jumping I’m gonna just teleport to one of the other places

- oops that was the place with all the turrets guess I’ll run for my life then

- grabbed a frog. Poor guys gonna get eaten alive

- ran into more mobs. Blue one one-shotted me. Rude.

- came back, threw a bomb and blew up the weaker ones

- threw another bomb and blew myself up but it’s okay I’m still alive. And I have food

- blew up a bomb and missed. Got hit again but still have a bit of health

-blew him up *again* and he’s getting kinda low

- guy is back to full health? That’s not fair only I’m allowed to do that

- shot all my ice arrows and missed

- shot all my fire arrows and hit him

- managed to kill him by running away and dropping the square bombs on him. I feel more accomplished than when I didn’t drown in mud

- loot was more fire arrows I approve

- shot another pig thing but it jumped off a cliff

- blew myself up again, still haven’t figured out the range on those bombs

- climbed a tree and stole some eggs

- found a rock golem but managed to do no damage. In a rare display of self preservation I decided to run away and not spend the next half hour trying to kill it

- found another skull cave but it’s empty feels like a trap

- nah it’s all good??

- climbed the mountain in search of the other dungeon

- it was cold tho

- the old man said he’d give me his warm doublet. Idk what a doublet is but he said warm so imma go get that. His thing says seafood near the tower so I’m gonna try fish

- fish worked, I guess doublet is a fancy name for a jumper

- climbed back up the mountain

- saw a raft, maybe I can take it across

- cut some trees in order to make my way over because the bridge was broken

- got over to the dock but fell in the water anyway

- survived and got there in one piece

- raft is gone

- waited for a while no raft

- went back across and tried to light a fire, still unsuccessful the flint didn’t work neither did the bomb

- raft is back

- got on the raft

- now I am on the raft but it is not moving

- stood around a bit and now it’s moving, hopefully it doesn’t take me off a waterfall

- apparently there was a bridge there the whole time but okay this works too

- some goblins threw some rocks at me and I threw some bombs back. We had a good time

- sweet I’m Elsa now

- shrine was pretty easy

- this guy knows my (Link’s) name he knows who I am

- tried to get the chest in the middle of the lake. Was less easy but we got there, only died twice

- he said to draw lines on the map but imma just guess it’s the place with the statue

- an extra inventory slot for some maracas and that seed the flower said to give to someone (can’t remember who lol, hope it wasn’t too important)? Sure I’ll take it
