MERSKELES PART 3!
Definitely not mermay anymore but here's the last 3 sirens I wanted to do
and some explanation on why I choose what I did under the cut
(little warning for parasites on fresh's section)
So from left to right
Dream is a golden colored koi carp fish, I picked it because they are very pretty and they represent a lot of positive things like luck and fortune, some people even wish on them to make their dreams come true :> I also thought of the legend where a golden koi fish climbs a large waterfall to turn into a dragon, so they have some mythical legends as well. In terms of the actual fish, Koi are very sociable and sturdy, they also live for quite awhile.
Nightmare is a coelacanth, he should probably be an octopus considering he has tentacles, but I really wanted to make him a coelacanth because I think they are neat. Coelacanth's are very old with the latest fossils being over 400 million years old, they were thought to be extinct until one was found in 1938, grandpa nightmare. They are also nocturnal, sleeping in caves during the day, they live deep in the ocean as well.
Fresh is actually a two in one, he is a rainbow parrotfish with a tongue-eating louse in his mouth. Out of alI the bright fish I did a parrotfish because I really like their gradients, and I think the magenta fins fit his jacket. He's a parasite inside of a Sans body, so I picked a fish parasite to go along with the fish half of his body. I chose the tongue-eating louse, a type of parasite that replaces a fish's tongue. It first severs the blood vessels to the tongue and once it falls off takes its place. feeding on nutrients and acting as a new tongue for the rest of the fish's life, very cool and terrifying.
#parasite#No irl photos or anything but warning for describing how the parasite invades a fish#Tongue eating louse dont affect parrotfish Im pretty sure but Im ignoring that for fantasy#Fresh was also a combo between the Rainbow and bicolor parrot fish for the colors I put rainbow on the sheet because it sounds cooler#I love coelacanths sm they are like one of the neatest fish#I remember really liking relicanth as a pokemon and then realizing it was actually a real animal???? Phenomenal#Also someone requested dust If youre reading this I think he would be an eel of some sort#maybe a Gulper eel?#Angler fish would be cool too but only the females have the classic light lure on their heads#The dragon koi legend Im pretty sure is the inspiration for magicarp and its golden shiny#I would say im done with fish for now but im not I love fish Ill probably do something else aquatic related at some point lmao#Mermay#its july :''')#my art#my utmv art#utmv#fresh sans#nightmare sans#dream sans#dreamtale#utau#undertale au#sans au#siren#mermaid

finally at that age where i'm thinking i should get a tattoo. not bc i feel strongly about it, just seems like a waste not to. i've got so much skin i'm not using
#feels so selfish like. all this skin what am i saving it for?#open to design suggestions! (please make me regret this offer)#maybe some deep sea horrors. a pretty watercolor of a gulper eel#once saw a person on the subway with various Skeleton Tattoos on all their limbs#i respected their commitment to the theme#but more than that i respected how all the skeletons were engaged in Activities#dancing in a ballgown. juggling its own (and two other???) skulls. swordfighting. being a mermaid skeleton#ANYWAY. the only reason i haven't already gotten tattoos is i just couldn't be bothered#i'm old enough to know i don't have any strong-but-potentially-temporary feelings driving me towards it#aesthetically i prefer decorated to non-decorated surfaces. but i'm not artistic or thrilled with commitment#honestly it feels like sheer laziness. indecisiveness--nay. immaturity!--that i HAVEN'T gotten a tattoo yet#letting all this blank canvas go to waste. tut tut i need to grow up and be an adult and get a tattoo sleeve already.#really i've put off my responsibilities long enough#(in fairness i DID at one time have 18 different piercings)#(but i took most of them out bc they interfere with wearing headphones and/or shoving my face in my pillow during Sleep Time)#(i only kept the nape piercing bc oddly enough it ended up being the most convenient. and the least painful to get now i think about it.)#(neck piercing? no problem. normal pair of earrings? Tribulations And Suffering. i don't make the rules i just poke them with a stick.)

I hate to say it but I watched a playthrough of Iron Lung a little while ago and like. I respect what it’s doing but the “It was a big scary monster all along aaaaaaa!” reveal at the end kinda cheapens it.
#like i might be an absolute freak here but when the camera started showing visible signs of life i found it a lot less unsettling#like 'oh it's a normal ocean there's stuff living here'#maybe it's just because i watch too much ev nautilus footage of scientists laughing about gulper eels and cooing over octopuses#like obviously being killed by a big monster in a submarine hundreds of miles under the blood ocean is scary#but idk i feel like this premise could have gone some other interesting places

Prompts so far
(Copied from my other account)
An office full of pred workers has a 'bring your prey to work day'. Everyone is sure that the one most terrifying and unfriendly pred will have an equally scary prey. But when they go into the break room for lunch, everyone is shocked to find the most friendly, extroverted, adorable prey munching on their sandwich.
...
I'm sure we've all heard of the vore trope where the prey annoys the pred too much and ends up in their stomach, right? We all on the same page here?
But what if... a prey, pred, and observer (all mutual friends) are hanging out, and the prey makes a joke about something triggering to the observer (without knowing). The prey doesn't realize they're going too far since the observer is too shy to say anything, but the observer is just getting more and more upset. Finally, the pred realizes that their prey friend is making the observer super uncomfortable and noms them down for all their sakes.
Later the prey is let out, apologizes, and gives the observer a gift or smth to make them feel better
...
A robot pred and tiny prey get into a tough situation, and the robot gulps the little guy down. Maybe on accident, or maybe just to protect their tiny prey companion.
Luckily, the robot's "stomach" is simply a little storage area in their torso. But, unluckily, once the pred and prey are both out of trouble, the prey learns that, in order to open this little container and let them out, the robot needs a very specific screwdriver. And, uh-oh! The robot doesn't have it in their tool box!
So, the robot has to go and ask a friend to lend them said screwdriver. Either the friend hands it over without question, or the robot is forced to explain why they need it
...
Nom thoughts bc I'm outside watching neighbors setting off fireworks and it's LOUD.
A pred and a prey go out to watch fireworks. The prey has never seen fireworks before, so they're extra excited to see these pretty lights in the sky.
Unfortunately, the prey forgot to mention that they're TERRIFIED of loud noises. They immediately hate the loud booms and pops of the fireworks, and the pred feels SO guilty, so they gulp the prey down to their cozy stomach where the noises are muffled
(Bonus points if the pred has a see-through stomach so the prey can still see the fireworks)
...
An actor pred filming in a movie with 1 other pred and 1 prey as the main group of characters.
Everything is going great, and one of the preds has actually managed to make friends with this prey they're working with. Until, of course, they figure out they're supposed to have a vore scene. The pred protests, as the prey has never been vored before, and maybe a stunt double would be best for this scene. But, unfortunately, they're forced to gulp down the prey on camera.
The prey struggles and kicks during the scene, just like they were supposed to, but once the camera is off and the pred is able to go let the prey out, they've both completely worn themselves out.
By the time they're let out, maybe the prey is freaking out and terrified, or maybe they're just chill and was secretly enjoying their new little hideaway
...
A giant and tiny superhero duo where the giant gets their powers from eating the tiny. The giant probably has a name like "Gulper Eel" or something, but nobody remembers the tiny's name because the giant only refers to them as prey or snack (endearingly, of course. As an inside joke)

Considering gulper eel as a 'type, would you mind doing a wallpaper? No symbols please! Themes of like the deep sea, maybe some distant jellyfish, slight bioluminescence, kinda grunge-emo, shipwrecks, etc. just any like kinda dark themes or kinda dark seas
Gulper eels (aka pelican eels) are kinda unsettling so if you're scared of like things with big ol' mouths or just like deep sea creatures in general I recommend not looking them up. If you do chose that then I just wish you a good day :)
here you go, I hope you enjoy! I LOVE DEEP SEA CREATURES RRRAAAAAGHGGHHH!!

ULTRAKILL au idea…
THALASSAKILL
underwater ultrakill but not in a wrath way (ferryman...)
its not really a story related au moreso redesigns/reinterpretations. and some soma influence cause i love that game
V MODELS: robots that resemble standard diving suits. so they kinda just look like people in diving suits but a little fucked up yk. also their light comes out the round glass face of the mask like a headlight
GABRIEL: sea angel. scallop. its just a vague idea in my head but trust 🤞🤞his swords would be made of light and translucent and glowy or pearlescent
MINDFLAYER: like some weird perversion of a mermaid. something undeniably beautiful but jarringly inhuman. she probably glows as well. also she has a bunch of tentacles/tendrils/stingers that replace her headphone jacks
FILTH: gulper eel semi-humanoids or maybe angler fish
SWORDSMACHINE: some kind of crustacean creature. replace its big arm/sword with giant lobster claw anddd idk a weapon made from the remains/shell of a bigger ocean creature. cause crustaceans molt (and swords is a scraphead)
SENTRIES: seahorse looking kelp creatures. idk they can lock into the ground and shoot stuff theyre still kinda sentry shaped. maybe a bit mars rover
LEVIATHAN: some horrible combination of oarfish, kitefin sharks, nautilus, and whale bones. u get it
PRELUDE: basically the underwater parts of soma. and site upsilon and lambda.
LUST: cooooool coral reef but everything is giant and maybe black light looking….
hmu if u have any ideas or wanna see some sketches !!!

Oh yeah, I think Vilidia beach stuff would probably be cute as hell
The general shit like swimwear, feeling the warm sand, using a towel as a big blanket, looking at fish and rocks underwater, literally just sitting there next to the ocean and watching the water and talking I do specifically like to think that Vil would either help Idia learn swimming or at least floating or drag him through the water a bit while he holds on to some kind of float, maybe he gets a swimming board so he can paddle along
And the sunburn, oh dear, the sunburn
Of course also usable is how close Idia has been to the ocean all his life without ever touching it and I'm not sure how far down the Isle of Woe is, but I imagine we're talking deep territory, deep enough to see some weird creatures down there
Underwater ecosystems can get wild, imagine looking out of your window and seeing a handfish walk around outside before the ground swallows it up and swims away, a gulper eel repeatedly bumping into the glass like a pigeon
Eating ice cream at the beach while your boyfriend tells you about the unknown to men that lurk within the waters
Hating raw fish together is simply the backbone of any romantic relationship
I also feel the need to tell you that I just got an ad for bitcoin on your blog and it read: "Bitcoin Hyperdeflation, experience rapid and sustained price decrease with Bitcoin. Join the trend today!" and I think that's very fitting considering capitalist (submissive)
Aughhh oh my gosh them in beachwear. Vil either in swimwear or like a loose beach shirt?? Peak. (Even though I feel like he’d be the kind of guy to wear a wetsuit to the beach for extra skin protection)
Vil’s looking like his perfect model self meanwhile there’s a scrawny, pale ass man beside him that’s burnt to a crisp in seconds despite the layers of sunscreen Vil put on him.
Also I love the thought of Idia opening up about his childhood now that there is someone he can talk to about the Isle of Woe. Everything’s supposed to be classified, but Vil’s memory can’t exactly be wiped. I think he’d find living underwater pretty cool at times and he’d ramble about all the weird creatures he’s seen.
Omg actually. Side tangent. I can see the two of them despising the feeling of sand together. It’s a sensory problem for me personally and I think it’d be the same for Idia at times. Vil just doesn’t like it because it gets literally everywhere and he doesn’t feel very clean after the beach. Swimming is fun, but the space between is less fun.
Also I can see Vil being in love with having fruit smoothies or coconut milk by the beach. I remember going to a really obscure beach once on vacation with mostly only locals on it. There was an absolutely incredible fresh fruit juice stand that I think Vil would have loved.
And as a capitalist (submissive) I personally do not invest in bitcoin and instead only invest in men that will take my money with a 100% guarantee. /j

Been thinking about various types of triton based on deep sea fish and stuff. What if the ones from really deep in the Trench are based on anglerfish and like. Gulper eels because that could be really cool and maybe even horror ish because if you don't know what a gulper eel looks like then look it up they're super cool. Like freaky wide mouths and long thin tails n shit.
And also maybe some that are like those blind cave fish- living deep in caves in the Trench so they don't need to see since it's so dark. Could have some that look similar to those glowing deep sea jellyfish that flash different colours. Like their hair and membrane on their fins n stuff do that.
Siphonophore like tritons. Where their hair is siphonophores and maybe their family groups have like. Telepathic connections or something
#bringing out my inner fascination with deep sea creatures for this one#rewatching the same deep sea documentsry over and over when i was little really brought out the inspiration for this one#jrwi riptide#jrwi

Vibrates. Welcome to the unskippable cutscene. And of course this is just the closest some can recognize, doesn't mean it's exact. Like the lovecraftian description of it looked like (blank) but Not. :) Love that shit.
Joker definitely has vibes similar to a pufferfish and lionfish- and lionfish are incredibly invasive, which makes perfect sense with him. Very much green and white and purple colors, even if it's mostly muted. Maw more like a gulper-eel. B i g smile.
Harley deserves a hint of clownfish in patterning, and with a tail that's a mixture of a fish and an octopus of some sort. Mass of tendrils and bright bioluminescence that can make it look like a giant maw in the dark waters.
Ivy? Eel vibes. But like a mass of writhing eels and kelp, maybe a hint of leafy sea dragon when it comes to fin-shape. You can't tell if it's thrashing kelp or a creature twisting towards you until it's too late. Maybe a hint of stonefish vibes too.
Selina, I think catfish when it comes to whiskers and such. But? Give her hagfish vibes too. Slips through cracks and absolutely horrifying maw of teeth.
Bruce, you are so right in shark and whale vibes, but let me add in Manta Ray. Not only the smartest fish (at least thought to be currently) but also gives him his cape and cowl vibes even in the water. Rows of teeth like a shark, large maw of a whale all melding together on something vaguely humanoid.
Flying fish Dick is so right. Hint of sailfish too with the big fin being where he has most of the bioluminescence. But there's something off when you look closer, specklings that could be patterns or could be eyes, no one knows.
Anglerfish, yes. Duke deserves tendrils upon tendrils of glowing biolumnescent lures. But for extra spook? Deep sea spider vibes too. Limbs just a hint too long, scales shifting more into some sort of chitinous plates.
Jason? Give him a hint of jellyfish, (yes mostly for the immortal jellyfish but also the fact that at a distance it could look like innards of something) and frilled shark, and just a hint of lobster. A fish-esque body surrounded by stinging tendrils and skittering legs to dig through the sand.
Honestly, Cass also deserves jellyfish vibes, but instead? Blanket octopus or vampire squid. Tendrils that connect with sinews of flesh into a shadowy mass full of teeth. If you want jellyfish though? Comb jelly.
Tim. Now Tim is fun. Guppy and dolphin are his main inspirations, with teeth like needles. Looks friendly until you get closer enough to see the details. Maybe a hint of barreleye for fun.
Stephanie has viperfish vibes when it comes to the face and just how long her tail is. A bit of Frogfish too, with fins that are something between that and hands tipped in claws, and perhaps some deep sea skate.
Damian has a hint of scorpionfish, combined with lanternfish. Some stingray vibes too, including the stinger- even if it's more akin to a blade- in the tail.
Barbara also has a whale vibe, albeit probably smaller than Bruce's. Some searobin vibes when it comes to fin shape and maybe patterns, if not in color. Arms and fingers too long compared to the rest of her body.
Which Commissioner Gordon! Definitely has some dogfish vibes in body shape, maybe a hint of pleco or similar with spines a bit too thick. Maybe even a bit of walrus vibes when it comes to his mustache and with tusk-like fangs.
Riddler? I bet he has the most ridiculously colored or shaped fish, or the most normal at first glance, and there's no inbetween. He needs a long tail that he can curl into a question mark.
Scarecrow has to be the most horrific combination of deep sea abominations that would give heart attacks to anything other than another Gothamite at a glance.
Killer Croc still has crocodile vibes, of course. Maybe some knifefish vibes but otherwise Very heavily armoured from scales and scutes alone.
Mr Freeze? Give this man seal vibes- maybe mixed with some narwhale but jagged ice spikes. Body like a frozen corpse, bits partially see-through like chunks of ice.
I have so many thoughts :)
Also for those curious about aberrations:
Mermay Special Prompt 3
“Are you kidding? No one goes to Gotham, that place is like,” Aquaman made a motion with his hand, a not-quite grimace on his face. “Like things should not be living in the water, like it should be impossible, and things should be dead, but they aren’t and it’s like, like the equivalent of an undead apocalypse over there!”
Bruce rolled his eyes behind his cowl, taking a sip of his coffee as the others continued drinking. Socialize, they said, it’ll be fine they said. Well excuse him, but the waters weren’t that bad. Sure there were always dumped bodies, and chemicals from the rogue attacks, but it was far worse at one point.
One thing he’ll always be relieved for is how the… curse (thank you broken statuette back in the beginning of his vigilante career that fused with the other many curses of Gotham) made the people of Gotham actually care about the waters around them.
Though also, he couldn’t help but thank anything that might be listening for the fact that the curse only interacted with Gotham waters, because losing legs with any risk of a drop of water would be downright annoying.
“No dude, you don’t understand, no one goes there for a reason! That shit is horrific- someone saw a big thing with bits of rebar stabbed straight through it and still chased after a big alligator-thing!” Oh. Oh that had been him. Oops. Hopefully his kids didn’t find out about this, but they were probably already on the cameras. Dammnit.
#batman au#*Wheeze* H20 Au#prompts#mer au#do you think they get caught in fishing lines sometimes#i bet there's a big no-fishing rule in gotham that others assume is from the chemicals#but no it's so no one commits a murder because some idiot got a hook stuck in their gills#there is no such rule in bludhaven & there's a big cryptid hunting thing with people in the city that people assume is tourist trap stuff#.... Alfred deserves some dunkleosteus vibes

Less Famous But Super Weird Deep Sea Fish
I’m gonna write a post of cool animal facts just to Blaze later. Typical deep sea anglerfish and some others are pretty famous but I’m going to spend maybe even ten whole dollars to make an extra thousand people look at these other fish that I don’t think enough people know about. Sources included for all images, many with additional information wherever possible, but there’s still very little known about many of these animals!

GIGANTACTIS - common name ”whipnose seadevil” - the Schmidt ocean institute recently took this detailed photo from a deep sea ROV of a fish almost never observed live, but it sure does actually look dead. These anglerfish spend most of their time floating upside-down like this with their proboscis-like lure dangling below, and one guess is that they may send the lure down into the tunnels of burrowing worms or crustaceans. In some species, the lure can be over six times the length of the body. MORE FISH:

MONOGNATHUS - meaning “one jaw” - never observed alive and never given a common name (how about just monojaw?) this animal is closely related to the more famous “pelican eels” or “gulper eels,” but lacks the huge, expandable mouth. Instead, Monognathus has a strange skull with technically no upper jaw, just a gaping hole or in some species a bill-like protrusion. The thin, simplified lower jaws exist to swing prey into the single, venomous fang on the roof of the mouth.

THAUMATICHTHYS - common name “wolf trap anglerfish” - also going by the cute name “wunderfish,” the source of this illustration was a japanese marine bio site that unfortunately went down over a decade ago, and no live photographs have ever been taken. The “lure” (illicium) of an anglerfish is actually modified from the first ray of the dorsal fin, but this angler’s anatomy is so twisted that the same appendage protrudes from the roof of its huge, broad upper jaw, which folds in half like a hot dog bun to create an illuminated tunnel (figure 2 in the image) that snaps shuts like a Venus’ fly trap on very gullible prey. On this page is a fantastic x-ray scan of one specimen.

IPNOPS - common name “Grideye” - this fish has adorable and beautiful larvae found closer to the sea’s surface, with large and well developed eyes. As they mature, the eyes deteriorate until they’re gone altogether, replaced with a pair of reflective, luminous yellow pits on the top of the skull, looking like somebody scooped its brains out. These pits are lined with thousands of photosensitive cells that must allow the fish to “see” even the faintest traces of distant light, and especially the light emitted by other deep sea organisms.

STYLEPHORUS - common name “tube eye” or “threadtail” - incredibly rare close up photographs almost all come from Dante Fenolio, see HERE. This fish is so weird that it’s even in its own entire order, which is basically like if only one single beetle or one single frog was ever discovered on the whole planet. Its big, binocular-like eyes see in full detail as well as full color, which is quite unusual for deep sea creatures. It also has a very large mouth, technically, but a very tiny mouth opening, its jaws covered in a stretchy membrane with only one tiny, tubular hole. As it widens the jaws, it pulls water (and tiny prey) through the hole with powerful, precise force that disturbs little of the surrounding water; it’s a living vacuum cleaner with pinpoint sniper accuracy.

TYPHLONUS NASUS - common name “faceless cusk eel” - hauntingly weird video clip of this animal here. There are many species of deep sea cusk eel, and they have a few things in common with the more popular but unrelated “blobfish;” they tend to be soft, bulbous creatures adapted to float neutrally in the water until they really need to move, feeding on just about any small creature they bump into. This species is so named because its mouth and nostrils are on the underside of its fat, gelatinous head and its tiny eyes are invisible beneath many layers of tissue. Yeah I know what else some of you think it looks like so feel free to get that out of your system.

MALACOSTEUS - common name “stoplight loosejaw” or “rat trap fish” - photos from Descna, these are dead specimens but the “fleshless” jaw and “detached” head are both completely normal: this fish can swing its skull outward like an arm to grab prey, and the lack of any floor to the lower jaw allows it to lash out with more extreme speed. This is also one of the few deep sea fish to produce red light, from bright “searchlights” under its eyes. The red spectrum of sunlight doesn’t penetrate into the deep sea, so the color red is invisible to most of its inhabitants. The loosejaw’s red lights allow it to brightly illuminate its prey before striking, while the victim usually sees no light at all. A fantastic illustration here by abiogenesis on Deviantart.
If you ultimately liked getting a list of preposterous little creatures as a blazed post let me know and I will eventually maybe do others, especially if I just make the money back through my site and store (see profile)

Hello, I've seen some of your merfolk stuff, and tbh it, along with other similar artwork has inspired me to make better art of merfolk by incorporating more of the original fish aspect of the tail to look like it fits with the human half (rather than making it look like you just stuck a fish and human together lmao) and while I'm trying my best with it, (mainly practicing with sketches till I make a design I like enough to fully draw and color) I can't quite seem to get it right? Any tips or examples you can give? Or maybe some art tutorials you can link? I'm pretty much a beginner artist but would love to learn how to be better!
Even if not I appreciate just the inspiration you've been to me!
hello! :0 and oohh merm tips? usually for me kinda don't think about the tail and 'human' half as separate things but as one whole? some things I like to keep in mind when I'm researching or sketching things out:
-scales/patterns/fins are a nice way to make the merm feel more cohesive! :0 (like the koi and leopard seal merm below for patterns) or to blend the human/fish part together more if you're doing a more standard merm. I also like using the fins for 'hair' sometimes.
-silhouette of the fish/sea critter (like do you want your merm to be on the classic side or absolutely funky or somewhere in the middle haha) for the most part sharks/a lot of fish/mammal merms fall under the classic merm category for me and when I get to non-fish/fish that aren't the standard shape I tend to have the most fun with those.

top row is pretty normal (koi, sockeye salmon, leopard seal)
middle row (lobster, horseshoe crab, feather pen) they're still pretty humanoid but the silhouette itself is more like the creature they're based off of.
third row (hula skirt siphonophore, hatchet fish, gulper eel) they're still merms but they're not particularly humanoid haHA.
I like drawing merms that also look like their counterpart in silhouette? which doesn't necessarily mean things will match up; like with the gulper eel merm I didn't want to make a merm with a big mouth and came up with her having these funky basket arms that she could 'gulp' or scoop up fish.
here's another example of that when I was drawing an anglerfish merm; at first thought of having usual the whole merm as the anglerfish and then thought it'd be fun if the merm was just the luminescent lure part haha.

hmmm basically it helps if you can incorporate little things/details you notice to the human half? my brain's kinda bouncing around right now haha/all I can think of for now but hope that was helpful anon! :0
