Chronotrek: The Voyage Home
Dedicated to the crew of the Challenger 💜
Hey a Black woman captain in 1986.
I thought I wasn't going to have a lot to say, then I remembered that this is the one that I'm _certain_ I've seen before, and it was probably entirely because of the aircraft carrier in it.
I was in the Navy, stationed on a nuclear aircraft carrier for most of my time in. I spent a period of time watching any Navy-related movie I could get my hands on, which is likely where I caught this one.
I had friends on the Enterprise and that I was sent to the Eisenhower instead was likely a matter of luck since one of my friends in power school did get the 'Prize.
Now... of course even the Enterprise was just a character and the actor was the USS Ranger, not a nuke ship at all, but even so, there's some funny business still. And... things may have been different in 1986, but I've never seen a rifle or a dog in the plant. Ever.
The Enterprise may have been different, but on Ike, there WAS a room called the MMR, but that's where the ship's engines are, not where the reactor is. Of course we only had 2 reactors and the Enterprise had EIGHT. Now here's the funny part, I didn't work in the MMR, I worked in the other side where the reactor is held in a room (not a small thing like shown in the movie, but a rectangular room)... but for the life of me I seem to have blacked out the name :joy: RAR maybe. (Give me a break, I got out 15 years ago and intentionally forgot as much as I could)
Also, the ship was in port and would likely NOT have had an operational reactor or, if they were hot for some reason, there would have been many more people on watch that would have noticed the stowaways for as long as they had to sit there.
Oh I also forgot- the way Chekov was collecting the radiation would NOT have been detectable by anyone on the ship via power levels, and not only that, they can't see power levels where the officer of the deck is (assuming that was the bridge)- that looked more like a radar readout anyway.

The 7th Aberinian War, Part 1
By the year 2722, galactic society was finally recovering from the ravages of the Unification Wars. The Imperium Humanum and its allies had recovered best, but by no means were the other galactic powers left behind. Aberinian clans Vaixatha and Shrevesta, longstanding allies of the ascending Horagint Confederacy, profited greatly from that relationship, building out long-languishing warfleets and frontier holdings. It was those holdings that would bring the clans into conflict with the Imperium.
The first dispute centered over a cluster of unsettled worlds along the Meridian Belt, a string of younger stars originating from a nearby nebula. First discovered by Benden explorers in 2416, the worlds had sat empty since, too far from any regional powers to be of value. That is, until the arrival of the Imperium on the galactic scene. The Meridian Belt, along with countless other highly desirable worlds, sat near the the further reaches of the Imperium’s expansion corridor into the galactic East.
For most of the Imperium’s existence, they were merely another set of potentially worthwhile worlds on a long list of candidates for settlement. This changed in the aftermath of the Unification Wars, when their strategic position right on the outside of general Aberinian space made them suddenly far more desirable as eventual Imperial outposts. The outermost system in the Belt sat right on the 300 light year Lamontine Point of Clan Vaixatha, and it was the first of the systems to see a visit from Imperial explorers, who set up the Imperial border post Watchstation Agravus before independent colonists began making their way to the Belt. Soon, the frontier colonies of Neu Rostlaand, Qe San’s Landing, and Braston were settled, and began rapidly developing.
The colonies would survive the Unification Wars almost completely unscathed, too small and disconnected from the Imperium to matter. Because of this, their official Imperial accession came quickly after the war, rapidly expedited to fill the Imperial need for undamaged worlds to help rebuild and resettle the brutalized Sector Sapientis planets that had served as the Imperium’s frontline for so much of the war. On June 9th, 2717, all three colonies would be fully admitted to the Imperium, subject to Imperial law and benefiting from official Imperial presence.
Enter the Aberinians. Incensed at what they saw as unchecked and blatant Imperial expansionism, and wanting to capitalize on their newfound power after the war, clans Vaixatha and Shrevesta both began interdicting Imperial shipping in the region, ostensibly under the pretext of controlling the burgeoning frontier arms trade, where many of the Unification Wars’ former participants had turned to in the aftermath of the conflict. Particularly, a cottage industry of former Igorian Republic troops selling surplus Igorian munitions had sprung up in the hundreds of systems around the Belt, a problem the Imperium had also been struggling with.
Extremely conflict-avoidant after the war, the Imperium at first let the slight go, but in early 2722, when a Clan Shrevesta warship fired on the Imperial ore-hauler IHSV Breaker-23/891B after it refused hails to board, the Senate was forced to act. The 11th Fleet was called upon to deploy appropriate forces to the region, and it responded by sending Captain Third Grade Masako Chen-René and Task Force November Excellency to the region. Cpt. Chen-René’s first move was to forward deploy his escort ships, hoping to goad the Shrevesta ships into firing on a naval vessel, giving him the pretext to begin military operations in earnest.
He would get his pretext sooner than expected when the Clan Shrevesta warship Baltus On’romoa ‘Ad fired on the exact wrong target. The jumpy Aberinian crew, newly mobilized from civilian life under the Shrevestan military expansion, had mistaken Chen-René’s flagship, the supercarrier IHNV Go To God, for a macrohauler, unfamiliar as they were with Imperial ship designs.
Immediately, the God returned fire, shooting the small frigate out of the sky over the world Gettelsbaad.
Unknown to either Cpt. Chen-René or the commander of the Baltus, this was merely the first conflict. Only 29 hours earlier, Terran time, the IHNV Forget Me Not fired on and destroyed the Clan Vaixatha ship Cresna t’Shar Loan after it crossed the demilitarized zone near the Imperial northeast border, infringing on the Imperium’s territorial integrity. With both sides in violation of galactic law, an emergency summit would be called between the three powers to hopefully step back from the precipice of war.
This would be the second dispute. Lord Captain-Praetorius Miles Ben-Farouk, head of the Imperial Household Guard, was sent on behalf of Emperor Gaius Valerius to negotiate for the Imperium, and he brought along with him Lord Admirals Ilya Mukembe and Guinevere Caecilius, of the 11th and 1st Fleets respectively. Meeting in orbit over the neutral frontier world of San Sebastos, the summit was expected to last two weeks and bring some sort of closure to the conflict.
Instead, the IHNV Morning Glory, carrying the entire Imperial delegation, was obliterated upon reaching orbit, shot out of the sky by a ground-based laser battery. This was a provocation the Imperium could not ignore, and it would be this that sent the 11th Fleet marching to war.
This is what would kick off the last, and largest, of the Aberinian Wars.

Weird idea but imagine a female!spiderperson! Reader who is also a single mom when she joins the spider society, and one day she needs someone to babysit her 3 year old and Miguel is the only one available, and he slowly becomes attached to the kid
ooooh I love that idea!
Miguel in the movie for all his grump about not wanting to hold Peter's baby had superb dad reflexes (not even looking) as he caught her when she fell.
I imagine that for Spider!Reader she'd be surprised at just how good with kids he is, despite all his protest and grumping about how he's doing "VERY important spider work, overseeing the safety of the multiverse and no! I cannot babysit your baby"
only to come back to see him and the baby napping at his watchstation.

Star Wars Alien Species - Stereb
The Stereb, primitive natives of Serroco. They built the Stereb cities and had low technology.
Tumblr media
Serroco was a muddy, rainy world located in the Serroco system of the Expansion Region's Ploo sector. The homeworld of the Stereb species, Serroco had an atmosphere that supported other sentient life forms, such as Humans. Expansive dirt fields could be found on the planet, with patches of trees and other plants. It rained frequently on Serroco, and bigger storms often broke out, with tornadoes sometimes posing a threat to the Stereb.
The planet had multiple continents and revolved around at least one star. Serroco's land appeared green from space, with oceans covering a large part of the planet's surface. The Mandalorian nuclear attack on Serroco during the Mandalorian Wars between the Galactic Republic and the Mandalorian warrior clans had a great impact on the planet's landscape—the world's Stereb cities were destroyed, leaving only glass craters
Tumblr media
By the time of the Mandalorian Wars, Serroco was a full member of the Galactic Republic, and Human settlers from the Republic had put down roots on one of Serroco's nicer continents. The Republic Navy maintained an orbital watchstation above the stormy planet, issuing tornado warnings to the Stereb, who were not adept with the technology themselves. However, some personnel stationed at the watchstation found it to be a boring posting and amused themselves by calling in fake tornado warnings during festivals, sporting events, and other gatherings, a practice that ended when Serroco's senator complained. Multiple Jedi were also regularly assigned to the planet—during the Mandalorian Wars, one of the Jedi on Serroco was the Human Meetra Surik. In 3963 BBY, the Mandalorian warrior clans advanced on Serroco from the planet Jebble—anticipating an attack, Admiral Saul Karath assembled Battle Group Serroco and set up a staging area on the planet, with encampments among the Stereb cities. The camps were home to a great number of Republic Navy personnel, in addition to fringers selling food and other services to the soldiers. Camp Three featured the extremely popular Little Bivoli mess ship, which was run by two fugitives: Zayne Carrick, a former Jedi Padawan falsely accused of murdering his entire class on Taris, and Marn Hierogryph, a petty criminal believed to be his accomplice. Despite being two of the most wanted beings in the Republic, Carrick and Hierogryph were able to evade notice right under the nose of Karath and his battle group.
Karath and his team thought they were completely ready for the Mandalorians—they figured that the Mandalorians would not dare to attack the Stereb cities directly, for fear of wrecking potential loot. Karath set up a massive cordon of ships surrounding the planet, hoping to stop the Mandalorians dead in their tracks. On the planet below, however, Carrick had a Force vision of the Mandalorians destroying the Stereb cities and annihilating the Republic camps, and he decided that he immediately needed to warn Karath. In a rush, Carrick stowed away on hotshot Republic pilot Carth Onasi's ship, the Deadweight, convincing Onasi of his seriousness and hitching a ride with him to Karath's bridge on the warship Courageous. There, Carrick was recognized as the so-called "Jedi killer" and accused of being a Mandalorian spy. His warnings went unheeded. Soon, a Mandalorian force came out of hyperspace at the edge of the system. Disgusted by the Republic's "dishonorable" tactic of placing its camps so close to the Stereb cities, the invaders started off the proceedings by firing off nuclear missiles—to Karath's surprise, the missiles angled around the Republic ships, heading toward the Serroco camps. As Karath did not expect this to happen, the camps' missile defense systems were not online, and the planet was left defenseless.
Tumblr media
Impacts were counted near twenty-seven populated areas. While the Human settlements sustained heavy damage, the Stereb cities were simply gone, turned into glass craters. Furthermore, only eight of the Republic ships on the surface escaped destruction, one of which carried the Jedi Knight Meetra Surik. Before the missiles were launched, Onasi had buzzed down tornado warnings to seventeen Stereb cities, hoping that their underground catacombs could protect them if Carrick's vision came true, an endeavor that saved many lives. Serroco was nearly annihilated, its surface covered in massive craters where once had been cities and settlements. The Republic immediately condemned the destruction of Serroco as a tragedy and a horrific crime, and the devastation was not soon forgotten. Republic propagandist "Benegryph Goodvalor" chose Serroco as the name of his imaginary warship in transmissions aimed at the Mandalorians, and the planet became the namesake of a real Republic ship by the time of the later Galactic War. "Goodvalor" was actually Marn Hierogryph, who, along with talented Trandoshan cook Slyssk, had narrowly escaped Serroco's destruction on a stolen troop transport, inadvertently saving half of a sleeping battalion. The Republic Defense Ministry turned the rescue into a propaganda story, with "Goodvalor" being feted as the "Hero of Serroco."
Life on Serroco still continued, and by the time of the Jedi Civil War several decades after the Mandalorian conflict, Serroco had a leader named Lelin-Dor, who was known as the First Patriarch. During the war, Revan, the Dark Lord of the Sith, had Lelin-Dor assassinated, believing him to be a destabilizing influence. By the time of the Cold War a few centuries later, a Republic military presence had been reestablished on Serroco. In that same time period, archaeologists discovered an intact Stereb shelter left over from the Battle of Serroco, containing many previously-lost Stereb artifacts. During the Imperial Period, thousands of years after the Battle of Serroco, there was still a small enclave of Stereb on the planet.
Tumblr media
Their mostly hairless bodies range from pale red to brown with reddish undertones. They have overly long arms and large hands and feet.
A typical Stereb stands at 2.2 meters or 7.2 feet tall and weighs 85 kilograms or 187 pounds.
Sterebs age at the following stages:
1 - 11 Child
12 - 16 Young Adult
17 - 49 Adult
50 - 76 Middle Age
77 - 89 Old
Examples of Names: Herdr'tui, Eldr'nol, Helr'ven. Stereb names include a Basic-sounding prefix relating to their function in the community (herdr means herder, eldr means elder, helr means healer, and so on)
Languages: Stereb speak Stereb. They are able mimics, and there are a number of Basic words in the Stereb language.

Tumblr media
Smartwatches have not résolu l'énigme de la batterie lifetime
