Tatort Saarbrücken (Spatort) English subtitles - 2024 edition (episodes 1-5)

For all international fans who want to watch Tatort Saabrücken (of annual tumblr trending fame) but don't speak German, fear not:

Send me a DM and I can send you a link for English subs :)

(Please do not send asks as I can't post them publicly and I've had the unfortunate experience of privately posted ones eating links or disappearing into the tumblr void, never to be seen again...)

And as always: THIS IS AN UNOFFICIAL FAN PROJECT THAT I DO AS A HOBBY - PLEASE DO NOT POST THE LINK OR THE FILES PUBLICLY!

You can pass them along to other people privately (though please also ask them not to post them and to let anyone else they'd like to share them with know as well!), but I really don't want any beef with the channel (which is publicly funded and can afford far fancier lawyers than me, who is none-funded and can afford no lawyers) because these are not official in any capacity nor do I want to leave anyone with the impression that these could be official. They're a simple homemade attempt at letting non-German-speaking fans participate in the epic highs and lows of Spatort because there currently are no official English subtitles. Any mistakes are entirely my own, I don't own any of the copyrights to Tatort or any of their characters or plots, yadda yadda.

That being said, if you notice any typos, translation errors, missing or out of date links or anything else, please do let me know so I can update the files accordingly!

As I've gotten a few messages this year apologizing for being late: if anyone sees this in the future - yes, this is still up to date. You can shoot me a message at any time of the year and I will get back to you as soon as I can (usually within 24-48 h). Heyyy I have a question, I've been meaning to get into Tatort Saarbrücken in order to better my German. What order should I watch the episodes in? The episodes aren't numbered on the ARD Mediathek website 😢

And for the 6th one (which I think will be called Das Ende der Nacht) we'll have to wait another year 🥲

I'd advise you to turn on either German subtitles in the ARD Mediathek (bc sometimes the sound is shit and Germans also tend to mumble a lot) or ask @nerd-on-duty for the English subtitles (hope they're still active)

I am honoured that you're asking me, even though I'm not the most competent person to answer this. I'll try.

Tatort Saarbrücken is a German crime show. The team consists of Adam Schürk and Leo Hölzer (sad little meow meows) and Pia Heinrich and Esther Baumann (gone for each other and most of the time done with Adam and Leo's shit).

Adam and Leo are childhood friends turned to strangers turned to colleagues/friends/whatever that is that's between them. Without going into too much spoiler, there is a reason why they are fucked up sad little meow meows.

Warnings:

There's one 90-minute episode per year.

There are five episodes in total so far.

They will break your heart more than they'll heal it.

I mean it. Hearts will be broken.

And while Adam and Leo aren't together, they aren't not together because even though the trauma runs deep, some shit can't be explained by just the trauma.

Also, I don't know if there are English subtitles somewhere. I watched it on ARD Mediathek with German subtitles and my rusty German that was just passable to understand most of it, but some details might've been lost on me.

Ups, I think I was supposed to sell you on the show and I might've done the opposite 😅🙈

Hey, I'm more than happy to talk about these guys! :) The lovelorn gazes between these two can easily compete with the pining between Steve and Danny!

Adam & Leo are characters from the German cop show Tatort Saarbrücken. I explained a bit more about it when I answered a previous ask.

The thing is, these boys are crazy in love with each other. We know and they know but nothing has happened... yet. In the last episode, Leo (the brunette one) kind of articulated his feelings for Adam, saying, "I would go to the end of the world with you." Now comes the BUT: Adam has got a lot of issues, most of all trust issues and he can't quite bring himself to trust Leo. Leo knows it and he's hurt about it and he adds, "But not on this path." To which Adam replies, "Looks like I'll have to walk alone then."

That's the level of emotions—and hurt—you've got to be prepared for when you want to watch this show. And the second bummer is: there's only one episode per year. The last one aired 10 days ago and now the waiting has started anew...

If you still want to watch it, you best give it a try here at ARD Mediathek. It's the official streaming service from Germany's public TV station ARD and I think it should work outside of Germany, too. If you don't speak German, @nerd-on-duty has generated subtitles and he explains about it in this post.

Oh lord, I'm not sure I can properly explain this to someone non-German. I think I have mentioned it to you on insta once though.

So the german TV show is actually called Tatort (engl. crime scene). It's a crime show invented in 1970 with each episode being the length of a movie and having it's own plot which is completely solved in one episode and has mostly been watched by people our parent's age.

There's several police teams from several cities such as Berlin, Munich, Cologne which have their own show bascially but they are all played under the Tatort name and are alternately shown on TV with roughly 2 episodes per months.

Now Spatort is Tatort playing in Saarbrücken, a part of the show which has become very popular on German tumblr because the two dudes on the Team are some little meow meows with very high hurt/comfort potential because of tragic backstory and are So Gay for each other, it's a miracle the producers are still calling them collegues.

And for the name, the 'sp' in front of Tatort comes from the german word of shovel (dt. Spaten) which playes a significant role in mentioned tragic backstory.😅

I've also heard, somone has the episodes (4 so far) with english subtitles so if you're interested👀

Since Jensen talked about his first day on the Boys so much I've heard a lot of it before and also different ways he's said it, but I've never heard the tape one before (highlighted that part in the translation)... And because I think I didn't really wanna know this info, I have to put it here...

TV Spielfilm (german tv guide), nr 13- 2022

Translation:

Q: How was your first day on set, mr ackles? Did you get accepted immediately?

J.A.: It's funny, my character was frozen for many decades. I always say, I'm the new guy, who plays the guy, who has been there the longest. But the first day was memorable for me. When I came on set for the first time, it felt like I was a guest in someoneelses house. All nervousness was gone quickly, when I had to strip down on the first day in front of everyone. One says that one should imagine people being naked, when you're nervous, it was the other way around here.

K.U.: Unfortunately for Jensen it was a very cold day.

J.A.: That's true. I didn't even need a sock. They just put some duct tape over it.

Hi, I'm trying to explain it for you.

It's famous for it's Tatort.

"Tatort" is a weekly Sunday afternoon crime show (for boomers) that's been running since forever. Different teams investigate crimes in different cities.

The Saarbrücken team is quite young compared to the other teams and is (probably/hopefully/not canonically) quite gay and has a consistent dramatic backstory including the abusive criminal father of one of the main cops and a spade. There's so much personal drama and the crimes are just a small plot point to drive the character development. Here they are:

So far there have been 5 episodes and the latest aired yesterday.

Our fandom is crazy and super creative in terms of memes, fanfic, GIFs etc. so every year at the end of January it's wild when we're live blogging and processing the new episode.

You aren't the first one who's confused about all of this and it's really cool that we're able to trend our stupid German crime show every year and confuse unknowing Tumblr users.

There are some more detailed posts explaining the whole thing and I'm thankful if somebody could link to them in the comments.

I'm jealous that you've lived in Saarbrücken, you would probably spot some familiar places in the episodes, when you watch them.
