apparently I'm starting 2024 with Covid. this is the only time I've gotten it. and I hate it I'm so miserable.

I do think Blazing Saddles handled its one depiction of native americans very poorly, and the full extent of its representation of chinese workers on the railroad is they were literally just there. not even one single speaking line. unclear if this is worse or better than the redface.

it's fucking phenomenal at lampooning antiblack racism though. extremely blatant, extremely funny satire, which is constantly and loudly saying "racism is the philosophy of the terminally stupid at best and morally depraved at worst, and we should all be pointing and laughing at them 24/7"

plus the main character is a heroic black man who has to navigate a whole lot of bullshit but is constantly smirking at the extraordinarily stupid racists and inviting the audience into the joke. the one heroic white character is a guy who was suicidally depressed until he met the protagonist and they just instantly became buds, and he's firmly in a supporting role the whole time and happy to be there. the protagonist saves the day with the help of his black friends from the railroad, and uses the position of power he was given to uplift not only those friends, but all the railroad workers of other minorities too, in an explicit show of solidarity.

anyone saying "Blazing Saddles is racist" had better be talking about its treatment of non-black minorities. it had better not be such superficial takes as "oh but they say the n-word all the time" or "they have nazis and the kkk in there!" because goddamn if that's the full extent of your critique I very seriously suggest you read up on media analysis. there is too much going over your head, you need to learn to recognize satire.

genuinely don't know how i'm going to survive agatha all along next week

hysterically sobbing because I’m rethinking the career path I’ve been set on taking for the past 7 years of my life and I’m not sure it’s what I want to do anymore, but no other jobs interest me at all. also not sure where I want to do my education because I’d really like to go abroad for more than just one year but also like that’s so far from home and I hate change and it’s expensive and I can’t do the career path I want the same way if I do that but it doesn’t even matter because I don’t even know if that’s what I want to do anymore so I’m back at square one with no idea what I want to do with my life. maybe it’s this idea of I have to decide right now and I’m too young to be making this type of life alerting decision in my opinion. like I’m grown but also still a teenage girl who literally just wants to spend my life watching criminal minds and community in my bed instead of working every day of my life. also, side note: I’m getting to the part in cm where hotch leaves and Im dreading having to push through the seasons after that again.

God I hate full season releases it hurts engagement so much and makes it so hard to talk about the show. It also means people who are consuming it slowly can’t interact with the rest of the fandom because some people will have already finished it and spoilers will be inevitable. Plus weekly releases just build more hype

I think it’s very silly when murder mysteries make their little detective people have basically psychic powers and this is partially why I like psych. The best murder mystery to ever do this very sillyly is psych.

the best media to ever exist. I take no criticism I’m sure there’s technically better but something something Im sorry I’ve never had a 3 month long mental breakdown from lack of sleep because any other show suddenly got removed from all platforms and I had no way to watch it about any other show so like. Objectively the best to me. In my heart.

I’m very tired now so I’m gonna go put on episode 5 of season 2 and down the track comes murder in which a jockey is killed and they must prove the innocence of their childhood bully just as I have every night for the past 5 months because I am extremely allistic.
