I absolutely LOVE the Squirtle/Wartortle illustrations by kantaro in Pokemon 151!

The Squirtle jumping so joyfully from the rock into the ocean, the colors are STUNNING! I love the contrast of the Squirtle's aqua blue framed in the vivid orange sky, the soft bit of blue reflecting in its shell and its tail just catching the sun, how little and squishy its body looks as it launches itself towards the water with such tremendous excitement!

The lineless style of the background gives me the feel of a travel poster and I sense the tropical environment around it from the rocks and trees framing the corners, the waterfall splashing with as much energy as the Squirtle!

The layered blues on the surface of the water and the bubbles rising at the corner make me FEEL the liquid rising to meet the Squirtle--I can just feel how the next moment it's going to break through and be immersed in a cool island swim!

And the Wartortle running along the sunset beach, this is somehow everything I always imagined for Wartortle! I adore the way the rich purple melts into the warm red/orange sky, the matching purple clouds and shadows in the foreground, and how the dimming sunlight glows red on Wartortle's deep blues!

I love how the yellow and orange of the sky illuminate the lapping waves, I can just feel the gentle motion of the sea at dusk. The aqua color of the ocean matches Wartortle's ears and tail and sets off the red-orange sand, I just love how the colors are here!

Wartortle looks so round and squishy, I love its happiness as it goes frolicking through the shallows, chasing the bubbles caught in the setting sun! The shine and deep shadow on its shell give it an almost jewel texture like real tortoise shell; I love the silhouetted splash Wartortle leaves as it goes running across the shore. It's so full of energy and delight at the end of a gorgeous day! The colors in these are SO vivid and harmonized and the style is so cute and bursting with energy and joy. I just LOVE it (also Squirtle is my starter)

And THEN, I see the preorder page, and I see this shit.

$29.99 USD. For ONE 6 inch plushie, that you don't even get to pick. Anyone remember how much the original 9 inch plushies cost? Because I do!

What kind of ass backwards entitled bullshit is this?????? They really want to charge us almost $30 USD for MINIATURE plushies THAT WE DON'T EVEN GET TO PICK?????? AND THEN HAVE THE AUDACITY TO OFFER A "DISCOUNT" IF YOU BUY THE FULL SET OF FIVE FOR $100 USD.

And look, I don't know or care if this is directly Thomas's fault. Maybe it's just Youtooz being a shitty greedy company. I remember the FNAF Sun and Moon plushies were $30 each. But those also had magnets in them, so you could pin them to your shoulders/bags/whatever and show them off; so I figured that's what caused the higher price tag.

It just astounds me that a creator like Thomas who claims to be so fan focused would agree to so much of a rip off. I really really hope for his sake and the sake of us as a fandom that this decision wasn't his, because it's gonna reflect really badly if it was.

mediocre contemporary line drawing: $700

actually incredible oil painting of the same size by someone with a fine arts degree: $280

it's totally fine for the first person to price their art at $700 if that's what people will pay for it. but what's not okay imo is for the second piece--requiring far more time and objective skill--to be priced at less.

Thinking about working dogs and drive and how Reese was an insane high drive mess that was constantly on 24/7 and had super flashy obedience because he was that desperate for the YES and GOOD BOY that he would practically have a meltdown if he wasn't worked every waking moment vs Tassie who is probably the second chillest dog I have ever owned and only needs to be worked a couple hours a week but is otherwise content with frequent frisbee sessions and has equally flashy obedience with much less effort and is always ready to go at a word or motion but is also ready to settle down on command as well.

Just remembering that training Reese was always a battle where with Tassie it's an ebb and flow and we get the same results in such a shorter amount of time and she'd be considered a more medium drive dog. Also remembering reading a paper that linked drive to anxiety and thinking that high drive might not be in the dog's best interest if you can get the same results with lower drive.

Also thinking about all these training facilities and breeders hyping up the craziest dogs they own and constantly pushing for more and more insanity for the sake of... what?
