Zombie apocalypse face au I've been thinking of...

Thoughts/details on the AU and an alt color vers of the first drawing (luring you into my evil cave) ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Face as unrelated parties... All normal humans. Caname and fruk (separately) wandering the world after generic zombie outbreak. Theyre some of the last ones left so they rarely meet people and need to depend on the other party heavily. Blahblah its miserable everyone is sad and hurt and tired. Francis had to cut off Arthurs leg to prevent an infection. Arthur has to learn to lean on Francis for a lot of stuff and they learn to get over past grudges and such... 😇 Alfred is bitten at some point and hides it from Matthew. Matthew knows, but he's basically lost any will to live and is ready to die whenever Alfred turns because. Well. "I'm only living for him anyways..." type of sentiment... They ignore it and it's never brought up but it's like. I know you know that I know that- Anyways. So those two are trying their hardest to live out their last days in relative happiness. Doing fun stuff. Appreciating the simple things, landscapes, each other's company, etc... That is until they bump into Francis and Arthur in a totally horrible state. And it's like "Well... We can't just let them die can we? We have nothing to lose anyways." So they watch over the two and care for them and once they're all in okay health they decide to stick together and move on. But Arthur and Francis are clearly more determined to live than Mattie and Alfred and they're good fighters. So they wanna keep em around, all while hiding that Alfred is slowly dying and is eventually gonna kill them all. Milking Francis and Arthur's good will... Eventually new relationships form between the four and inevitably weird "betrayal!" and jealousy type feelings show up... Francis is tired of just sleeping with Arthur and when he gets mad he flirts with either of the twins... And the like... Well I haven't thought the whole thing through but these are the important emotional bases to the idea I guess...

I wrote a scenario for many different possibilities of first-to-dies (because i find them all interesting and bcuz twitter oomf asked and i have no restraint. lole)

Alfred dies first: Most obvious scenario (like hes already a bit zombified and clearly hes getting physically weaker) Im imagining a terrible scenario no matter what. Matthew probably finds him first all hunched over and stuff womdering whats wrong before realising that it's finally the end of the line. Francis/Arthur aren't far behind and they blow "Alfreds" head off without hesitation. Obviously causes a rift between the two and Matthew, who broke their trust by hiding this from them. Matthew is inconsolable for a few days, he thought he had more time. Despite the lie I think Francis and Arthur would end up feeling sympathy. They try to keep Matthew up on his feet but frankly I think this would end with him blowing his brains out eventually anyways... 😊

Alternatively Mattie has been mentally preparing himself for a very long time and he immediately kills "Alfred" and then himself in quick succession. Francis and Arthur are haunted by the memory of the two for the rest of their trip.

Arthur dies first: Similarly, I think its easy to imagine this. He's missing a leg and mostly needs to be near someone else to survive zombie attacks/ambushes. Would probably accidentally get separated from the group and get overrun... Might use himself as a distraction to allow the other three to get away in a particularly dire situation... In a way he thinks hes just dead weight anyways and he wants to see the other three live knowing that he doesn't have much left to offer them (Francis would disagree). Francis is obviously very upset and he loses sleep over the memory of Arthur, his last "real" link to his normal life before all of this. But I think Francis is stable enough to prioritise the twins he took under his wing. He knows they need someone to keep them together, so he toughs it out. Everything is fine till Alfred turns some many months later. By then, Francis developed a strong attachment to the two and doesn't have any regrets. Would probably struggle against Alfreds strength to allow Matthew to escape or something along those lines...

Francis dies first: I can also see him just getting killed by sheer numbers. I think he grew very fond of the twins pretty fast + had to be Arthurs protection for a long time and so he developed this feeling of "I need to keep them all safe at all costs". I don't think itd be as much of a letting go type thing as Arthur. It's more calculated and would only happen in a worst-case scenario. I think Arthur would be pretty irritable for the next few weeks, a lot of things remind him of Francis. It bothers him since he wants to just forget and move on, but he finds that his feelings are more difficult to control than he initially thought. Yells a lot at Matthew and Alfred and gets into petty fights. Its not pretty, but they have their moments... In the end, it's not like he wants to make them suffer. They're all he has left now. Hes trying his best. Has a lot of days where he just wishes he had been the one to die instead.

Matthew dies first: Honestly I'm imagining a non-zombie related death, like an accident with one of the guns or some unrelated illness or like. Falling onto a branch? Falling from high up in general? Setting off a trap? Lol idk. Something that allows Alfred to hold Matthew during his final moments or at least look into his eyes. I think hes also the most liable to flip out on everyone and just kill the four of them all together idk ❤ Crazy girl ❤ It shocks Alfred immensely. He expected to be the first one to die and he's really upset about the whole thing. Outwardly, he cracks jokes and tries to convince the other two that he's fine but he's very much not. Doesn't really know what tk do with himself. Just goes through the motions every day. Francis and Arthur notice the slight change in behaviour but don't really say anything and pretend everything is fine. Playing at being a normal family. Arthur and Francis try spending lots of time with Alfred but nothing really helps. Eventually Alfred turns without ever telling them he was infected and they all die the end. Alternatively he kills the other two and then himself on like a random Tuesday. ❤

Bonus: Everyone except Alfred dies lol. Alone in the desolate empty landscape. Welp!!! What now!!!

watched wish a few days ago and was underwhelmed with the execution of the cool ideas they went with so i took it into my own hands

first of all i took the star boy concept and made it real

more under the cutttt

(his pronouns are he/they/star/any btw (self-indulgence))

- they are a shapeshifter, being able to change their form at will. at first, theyre a ball of light/star shape but when they see asha they’re like omgg cool form and use that new humanoid form more often

- the amount of light they give off changes with their emotions/health

- they are mute, communicating through sign language, magic, shapeshifting, or acting things out

in my story asha is a princess like she should’ve been and is the adopted daughter of magnifico and amaya (who are both evil like in the concepts)

the two have somehow connected rosas and the star kingdom and use the star peoples’ magic/life force to power their own magic. asha, being adopted, struggles to use this magic well but feels immense pressure to make her parents proud. the use of this magic by the king and queen (and asha) is slowly killing the star boys kingdom. it killed his parents, causing star to run away (they have a problem with running away from their problems)

he and asha meet at this time after she wishes. her wish was something along the lines of being good at magic finally or being able to help people/fulfill expectations. he IMMIDIATELY falls in love with her lmao. it takes her much longer. either way they start to help her learn magic, both of them unaware that it’s killing him and his kingdom.

they grow very close and in loooveeee hee heeee

at some point asha and him fight, maybe they both find out what ashas magic truly is and star feels betrayed. they run away from her and go to her parents in the castle to try and win them over and be dimplomatic, still not really knowing her parents are the real problem. (it’s at this point he changes his outfit to the one on the far right of the top image as it’s more traditionally accepted in a kingdom like ashas and he wants to make a good impression on her strict parents.)

unfortunately, it doenst matter and he is immediately captured lmao and the king and queen start to drain them of their life force/magic for similar greed reasons to the original movie.

the song of saya (saya no uta) i will be yapping extra about because i LOVE IT. its a horror eroge visual novel about a guy named fuminori who, after a brain surgery, sees the entire world and other people as a disgusting fleshy abomination, whereas everything looks normal to other people. for example this:

is a completely normal hallway. but it looks like that to him. then he meets a girl name saya, who is the only thing in the world that looks normal to him, and he falls in love with her

and i reeeally really dont wanna spoil it cause its really good and i highly recommend you go watch it (theres a full playthrough on youtube) but lets just say saya is Not as normal as she looks.

celeste is a game ive only played a little of, but i love it so far. its a platformer about a trans woman named madeline climbing celeste mountain, and encountering a personification of her self doubt that she has to overcome to get to the top. i lovee the style of the game its so pretty and way easier than i expected it to be, which is great for me because im garbage at every game in the world that isnt muse dash or disgaea

disgaea 4 and disgaea 5 are self explanatory. i ADORE d4, though im not super far into it, but i havent started d5 yet im waiting until i finish d1 and 4

i really wanted to try and write like, a thing explaining how i think steven universe future is one of the best portrayals (and my personal favorite) of mental illness in media, and how i think people misinterpreted it (me included at first, cause my experience over time has given me new perspectives) but i. AAA i literally dont even know if its necessary cause i dont know if people still think it was bad or a bad way to write steven (it wasnt!!) or like any of that, mostly cause. holy shit its just so obvious to me?

like i watch that show and i relate to him so much that i just understand it all and its so obvious to me and i dont know if other people find it. not obvious. like everything is right there in the text laid out i think

the main thing that i saw get misinterpreted when it aired was the second to last episode where steven turns into a fucking kaiju and everyone, again me included, thought that it felt rushed, but everytime i rewatch it i think... no it wasnt, actually. because we see it expecting a big fight or thinking it needs a whole lot to fix, but it doesnt. its not a fight, its someone having a mental breakdown and thinking theyre purely unlovable and evil, but being made to see that they are still lovable and arent evil even after all the bad theyve done, theyre loved unconditionally, and that other stuff mostly really doesnt matter (and hey, it can be fixed/dealt with later, its fine!)

its just my favorite show ever, specifically future! and i really wish other people would see what i see, but do i even need to try..? i didnt really write it very well anyway, but drafts exist for a reason. idk ive just been thinking about it a lot

BASICALLY. aziraphale is an angel, crowley is a demon. theyve known each other for 6,000 years, at the creation of the universe (when crowley was still an angel. he created stars and everything. very nice job) and theyve become great... friends (wink) even though theyre not supposed to be! so theyre not friends! theyre eeeevil enemies. and then they go out for dinner

anyways. idk how to explain it well but theyre just SOOOOO!!

ok so now im going to try and do like. a whole thing explaining everything below so SPOILERS!!!!

okay so. in the beginning aziraphale and crowley were both angels. they met when crowley was making stars and galaxies and all that pretty stuff, and aziraphale came to say that they were going to shut it down after a bit. crowley gets upset and goes whaaaa this is so cool why would they do that (lil thing to note. aziraphale is like. interested in crowley but he doesnt really care) and then they have some really nice scene

d'aww. ok and so THEN! some big war happens i think? i dont know they dont show that part and crowley falls. demon moment!!! and then they go through all these different decades being friends, getting to know each other, and its great. aziraphale sins a little bit (gluttony), crowley saves aziraphales books, and they all have fun. oh btw. crowley can transform into a snake, and apparently hes the one that caused adam and eve to eat the apple? BUT! theres this other great scene where theyre talking, and its revealed that aziraphale gave his flaming sword to adam and eve, showing that he loves humans and has a soft spot for them, and theres this other great shot

THE PARALLELS!!!!!!!!! AUUUGh (^ this one came before. btw) and so this is sort of them showing how ohh, theyre not supposed to hang out because angel good demon evil waaah but they just KEEP ON FINDING EACH OTHER. oh and. speaking of like. showing off different softer sides of them. in season 2, theres a lot of bits where they show that crowley is pretty much putting up this show of being so meaaan and eeevil but hes actually nice and cares about humans (bringing jobs kids back, keeping that girl from dying, etc). ok now onto talking about season one. warning i havent watched this season in a bit so this is just me going off memory.

ok so! the big issue this season is "oh noooo we lost the antichrist!! big bad things gonna happen" and its awesome. OK SO. it starts off with crowley delivering the antichrist to this satanist church? and theres two women having babies that night. ONE is a normal family, who are supposed to have a normal baby. THE OTHER ONE is a rich family who is supposed to have the EEEVIL baby. can u guess what happens. BABY SWITCH!!! they didnt realize it tho so crowley and aziraphale are sent after the wrong baby. (to make him sin/be good) and then they realize on his 11th? birthday "aw crud! wrong baby." and go on some search to find the right antichrist. and that brings us to ADAM!!! hes the antichrist, and one coooooool kid. hes pretty normal tho and just hangs out with his friends. and then one day on his 11th birthday this dog shows up! (hellhound) and then off on the side theres this witch lady named anathema device who has a book that knows the future. crazy stuff. oh and this guy names newt whos kinda a dork and talks to this weird witch hunter guy shadwell and his neighbor madame tracy. oh and the four horseman of the apocalypse are around and free OKAY. into it now. anthma knows something bad is going to happen (book), and she moves to london because thats where its gonna happen!! whaaaat!!! and newt moves to london because uhh. witch finder i think? and he goes to meet shadwell and accidently meets tracy. not important rn. shadwells kinda bonkers and freaks newt out. ok now onto anathema. im pretty sure that aziraphale and crowley were driving around (oh btw. he has a magic bentley) and hit her!! yeoch. and after driving her home she accidentally leaves her book in the bentley and aww they gotta meet up again aw shucks. okay now they go searching for adam (antichrist) and i dont think they find him? anyways i forgot how but then tracy shadwell newt and anathema all meet up with crowley and aziraphale and do a seance. i forgot what about but ohh nooo aziraphale is in madame tracys body!!! ok so i kinda forgot how again but somehow theyre all at some big area and the four horsemen and running around i forgot what theyre doing and BLAM ADAM SHOWS UP hes mad. hes trapped his friends into doing what he wants. hes gonna start the apocalypse. average 11 yr old stuff. BUT!!! crowley and aziraphale manage to calm him down and newt blows something up. idk whats going on anymore. satan comes out, "grrrah im ur father adam". its a nice lovely moment. but oh wait!!! gabriel (heavens big man) and beezelbub (hells high duke) come down/up and r like "yall r in biiiig trouble! cant be doin all this" and they try to kill both of them. aziraphale in hellfire, crowley in holy water. that scene comes and yoo wait theyre both alive??? this is insane!!!! theyre both MILKING it, bein dramatic and then. at the end. WHAOOOAH THEYRE ACTUALLY THE OTHER ONE?????

and thats the end of season one. okay so i know that this is incredibly long but im not even done. im going to reblog this later with me talking about season two and that should be shorter. OH BTW

hi saul - do you mind if i ask you about what sort of stuff/signs in writing tells you when the author is using abuse cheaply? you made a post about it a few days ago, and as a writer and reader i thought id ask so i could watch out for that sort of thing. conversely, do you know any books that you consider to portray abuse well? of course feel free not to answer, thank you for your time anyway

It's a lot, let me tell ya.

Take these with a grain of salt, but all these are just what i noticed reading cheap books while i was traveling. these books are cheap for a reason, theyre bad, and most likely not representative of good literature. I tend to enjoy mostly mystery books as well as classics, so i dont go about choosing books that are good at depicting home lives of abuse victims consciously, and dont really have any recommendations on books that depict abuse respectfully. i reckon other people will though if you search well enough youll find books written by people who were abused and chose to share thier stories through non fiction or fiction, or find books written respectfully that tackle the concepts of abuse. but what im going to talk about right now is how apparently a lot of authors cant find any good ways to handle abuse as a topic without being immensely disrespectful to multitudes of people- just solely based on my observations from the many many terrible books ive read over the years, mostly shitty thriller novels that exist to shock people crassly.

the most common cheap mentions of abuse that i have commonly seen and read tend to be as such: evil 'crazy' villain was abused as a child which leads to why he's evil, abusers are all people who have personality disorders cause mental illness is 'crazy' and leads to evil people, abused children are 'damaged' and such will do bad things if they become 'crazy' enough, etc. It's always related to some sort of nonsensical pathologising of completely neutral conditions people have, and the demonising of already vulnerable groups of people by showing them as abusers, even though these people are most likely victims of abuse. This is the main sign that the abuse mentioned in a story is most likely being used as a scare mongering tactic against mentally ill people, for nothing but shock value. I find this to be one of the most common, cheap uses of abuse as a topic in (mainly horror and thriller) books.

The second most cheap mention of abuse is this very strange twisting of abusers as people who have he capacity to change, as some sort of optimism porn or something. In my experience and the experience of many others, its insulting that books make it seem like abusers are secretly good people who are just misguided and will change on their own 'once they realise'. Or that they can make up for their behaviour through apologies and actions, because 'actions speak louder than words'. The idea that everything can be forgiven through the power of change or some magical bullshit, incredibly disrespectful to victims of abuse. Abusers are repeat offenders, and rarely are they ever people who just have one form by which they abuse people. Physical abuse comes verbal, and emotional. but most people only focus on the physical and verbal, and think that if someone shows abusers the 'right way' they'll simply learn their wrong ways and change. thats not how it works, you would never abuse someone if you were secretcly a good person. theres a fundamental flaw in giving the benefit of the doubt to people who have done immeasurable damage to their victims, theres nothing to achieve when you dont have more empathy and compassion for the victims and their pain.

A lot of abusers were abused themselves as kids, and so choose to continue the cycle of abuse, but this cannot be used to create a form of 'oh they were so hurt and they dont know any better' type of image. because they do know better, but they dont think theyre being abusive, cause they think they have the right to behave the way they do. You can address what led people to be the way they are without absolving them of their behaviour in fiction. in the end theyre all characters but the least you can do to people who were abused by people like these characters in a similar fashion is to not write abusers like they are not responsible for their actions, jsut because they went through the same thing in the past. theres no valid reason to be an abuser, and there never will be.

the worst of all is obviously with those 50 shades type romance thriller novels that romanticise misogyny and abuse, we all know about this, some new romance novel or the other with 'spicy' scenes becomes popular every few weeks on tiktok, ahem hem for example The Wives by Tarryn Fisher. terrible book, its so fucking terrible, its downright evil.

for writing tips on accurately and thoughtfully depicting abuse, you have to actually read or listen multiple people who have shared their experience with abuse. Be intelligent with how you use resources available, and dont fall into the trap of following easy but damaging tropes to shock readers.

{ uh essentially he got slowly turned into an alternate beecause of a program put into place by their moderator (the reason why is kinda a long story) that was put into effect all the way back in december . it was only supposed to last 11 weeks, but because a core function of the program, who you may know as cesar's evil shadow self named violet, was missing (wilt split away from cesar because the reason it was created was to fucking kill everyone and it felt like they couldnt do that effectively while stuck in cesar's body). }

{ so the program was put on halt for like . months . blah blah blah stuff happened and then on april 23rd vi rejoined cesar's body after like 3 people tried to kick wilts ass simultaneously . now the program continues as normal and things kinda kick into overdrive because cesar had been resisting the mental changes the program caused as long as they could and . long story short it caught up to him . and they spent quite a while screaming in agony because the program finished and it had to forcefully remove any humanity cesar had left. and turns out that really hurts ! anyways so now he's full alt whos a little deranged from being in constant agony for over a week and a half but theyre . getting better ? sort of??? hes trying to relearn theyr humanity a bit but its not particularly working lol .......... or is it }

hey i’m trying to get into resident evil, how do you think i should start? should i start the games then the movies, or the other way around. should i watch the movies at all?

I would recomend the games first always. The Milla Jovovich movies don't actually tie into the games at all, only the animated ones and "Welcome To Raccoon City" do specifically. But the animated movies take place in between events from the games and generally are much more enjoyable if you have the game context in mind.

RE 0-8 are the mainline games as it stands right now. Personally, I've played 2 remake, 3 remake and 4 (remake and original,) 6, and I'm working on playing 0 as well. (I will get around to playing 1 I promise I'm just very slow.)

If you want my advice as far as play order/what you should do, I'd say play/watch a playthru of 1 remake, 2 remake, original 3 and 3 remake, and original 4 and 4 remake (theyre very similar but different enough that playing both is required if you ask me.)

I personally havent played and will not play 5 at this time, I have a lot of issues with parts of the plot and how it was done and I don't like How it plays either from a gameplay perspective. I might watch a playthru of it eventually but I won't play it myself.

6 I would recomend playing, I'm notoriously the guy who loves 6 and finds it fun to play, but most folks will tell you its more fun to play co op specifically for that one.

7 and 8 are kinda their own stories but they Do connect back thru the lore to the original games so play the others Before you touch those.

As far as the animated movies go:

- Degeneration takes place sometime after the events of re4

- Damnation is about a year before re6

- Vendetta is a year after re6

- and the newest one coming out in july, Death Island, will take place a year after Vendetta.

Thats just my advice personally, but I'm opening the floor for my mutuals to add onto this for you too for their own advice in what to do cause I'm sure I forgot some stuff here. If they add to this post I'll reblog it for you later~

Like, it was rare there werent people camped out outside on the 711 lot or actively overdosing on the premises with firetrucks onsite, and most any night there were multiple active drug deals/a shooting gallery situation in the parking lot or by the dumpsters, plus whatever was happening inside with someone wanting/needing some kind of leeway and being stymied by capitalism etc

Its unclear why this sometimes happens to 711 other than, the people working there tend to be polite about it because theyre not highly regarded by the society that demands 711 either, and the people who go there habitually/camp out there, tend to focus on places that are open 24 hours because they cant go to dry shelters etc

So these businesses are often put in the position of operating in a capacity its not legal for them to operate in, (or else, making enemies in the local transient-and-wacky demographic thats attracted to certain locations for largely geographic reasons)....in order to pick up the slack left by these religiously affiliated anti-drug places that would rather people die than be housed while high

...on the topic of the transient-and-wacky demographic, if you want good advice about being cool with these people, you have to imagine that basically everyone theyve dealt with lately other than other homeless people, are essentially a faceless mass of judgemental calvinist douchbags who never cared about their wellbeing as fellow humans and demonstrably have evil/purely selfish values revolving around profit and a pyramid of enslavement and dont understand true humanism/fraternity/sorority/[any religion name here]/whatever, and every time you enforce some little procedure of whatever bureaucracy your workplace has, thats you assigning yourself evil

....which is exhausting on a long enough timeline even for people who get it, but also, are not social workers but ARE at work

Some of this stuff is easy for me because ive always been seeing evidence of a reciprocal balancing mechinism to linear reality (karma) ever since i started watching for it as a kid.....so im like, workplace protocol isnt as important as how i myself would want to be treated should i end up in their shoes...(never bought the myth that its personal failings that cause desperate circumstances, always saw how often people socially mob up and destroy the futures of people for petty reasons, could be anyone....cast out)

A big part of the problem is domestication; they dont know how to medicate their trauma other than drugs (for reasons; no money for therapy, no trust in therapy etc) BUT they paradoxically have largely-externally-cultivated resentment for everything about being anywhere they can get them (because theyre not remote diy producers, or colleagues of similar....maybe because they have 0 chill), ie the hostile aesthetics and ergonomics of public spaces and mainly, the people who functionally "fit" eg people who can get jobs and are earning money by flexing on them about where they can be, what theyre allowed to do

People who actively enjoy holding themselves above the people who've had the most damaging lives, entirely deserve their disdain.....but also, anyone who is even just avoidant in the wrong way reads as yet-another-one-of-Them....the authoritarians....the teachers, the stepdads, the nuns, the jocks, the librarians, the mallcops, the clerks, etc/whoever, the ones who've always been there to cast you out, poised to do it.....there are of course skids who actually dont have a problem with authority to a compulsive extent and are conventionally pleasant in demeanor, for the record....typically theyve been hurt first/worst by peers. Most skids are not having a good day when you meet them. (This is tongue-in-cheek understatement; my point is that people often hold visibly impoverished people to standards of decorum that only make imaginationland sense, to people who've never been unsheltered for long, never looked like "a vagrant" etc and might tend to take issue with the idea that its not some kind of choice, to just be "difficult" as a lifestyle....i guess for the thrill of risking being beaten to death by nazis for not being at work?)

And yeah at this point theres a counterculture of identification with being so defiant of a corrupt system in its dysfunction that its dysfunctional, like, it renders one unable to function.....imo/ime, thats trauma, when its creating loss of general functionality. We shouldnt be in such a rush to prove we're just as traumatized as anyone else or to valorize their/our own state of painful defiance, in spite of its paradigmatic righteousness, rationality, etc; the issue here is, we're in the unenlightenment when it comes to healing that pain. Some people say the best way forward is violent radical action, blabla, total rev eternal war yaddayadda....i dont think that leads us out of trauma, kids. I think we have to be like, ummm... corny about all this

watched the first two mad max movies for the first time knowing very little abt mad max and most of it from homages to it or from stuff abt fury road and like. man those movies r just stunningly reactionary huh?

like the classic joke about the inexplicable fetish gear is very much...part of the point the movie is making? like, in the first movie its allowed for the cops because their fetish gear is that of authoritative control, which the movie likes and thinks is right, and its allowed for the...idk what to call them the 'outsiders' basically because theyre meant to be deviant queer 'others' who pose a danger to society and particularly to the sexual purity of white women through their otherness. the police (and particularly max) are permitted nay obligated to exercise violence against these people because its purportedly the only way to maintain order (read: aforementioned sexual purity), which is the only thing that matters, explicitly and textually rooting for extrajudicial police violence and police brutality because the justice system is simply too lenient on these 'others' in a way i would argue is deeply fascistic!

this is even more pronounced in the second movie because you have even more fetishy and explicitly queer and explicitly dangerous outsiders juxtaposed with a microcosm of civil society in all light colored fabrics who are explicitly identified as 'clean' (through a pretty pure white blonde woman no less) that need noted cop max to lead them to paradise where they can reestablish civilized society as it 'should be' through again killing these deviant queer others. that the second movie frames this around gasoline is like...i dont even know what i just know its extremely bleak and reeks of idolizing american empire. community of 'clean' white people with a leadership hierarchy who just want to get down to 'breeding' and are deputized to be the ones to do this through the power of gasoline which essentially acts as god or the natural order, they are the chosen people (chosen by gas) and have been given access to the power (gas), and there are roving gangs of inherently evil people (you know this cause theyre queer) Out in the Wilderness who want to steal the divine right (gas) from them and cannot be allowed to because of their deviancy.

and thats not even speaking to the body fascism of the first movie and how horrifically it treats disability and impairment. the immediate dehumanization of a burn victim ('he' becomes an 'it') and how max's wife becoming an amputee (and losing her child) is treated as equivalent to her death both speak to placing such value on the 'intact' abled white body. all of that is wrapped up in the white women of the story i think and particularly how sexual violations of their bodies and their purity serve to dehumanize them: they have ceased to be 'intact' abled white bodies and have been corrupted by the others and are thus not really human or not really alive.

the only thing im surprised isnt in here is like, horrific horrific racism because every trope of the barbarous outsider inherently unable to be a part of civil society is deeply raced and in fact a tool of racializtion. probably the only reason its absent is because the movies are above all just, totalizingly white. and even then theres this whole focus on how society has been denigrated by these outsiders which has 'lowered' white people to a shameful state. you get this with the gyro man (who lifts himself up by the end of the second movie by joining society (because he wants sexual access to 'clean' white girls)) as well as the 'feral child' who i will note uses a boomerang, a weapon notably invented by aboriginal australians. theres some race science history here about how 'aborigines' are the 'least evolved' populations of humans so theres a real reading of the 'feral child' being 'feral' because white people and his whiteness in particular have been denigrated causing him to 'revert' to a less evolved state; he and his whiteness are saved by noted cop max leading their community to reestablish civil society. that the feral child is at the end of the movie revealed to the narrator shows that his feralness was tamed out of him and he became (or evolved into) a good white civil subject. bleak!

coulson sees the good in people. even when that person doesn't think there is any good to be seen, coulson sees it.

1-thor: okay so coulson is doing his business dealing with this hammer thing & this blonde dude tried to steal it or whatever & then selvig comes along with a fake id & fake story that's pretty obvious & coulson is just like "alright then." let's thor leave & totally obviously steal a notebook. & someone that was worried thor would actually cause harm wouldnt do that but here we are. & isn't even the slightest bit phased when turns out thor is thor & some robot tried to kill him & leveled the town dude could tell thor wasnt a maniac.

2-jane, darcy, & selvig: okay so these 3 scientists are knowing stuff they shouldnt know quite yet okay coulson takes their stuff & then theyre super strong buddy shows up & selvig shows up with a fake id & fake story & coulson is just like ok yeah let em go but watch them & doesnt mind when they steal back a notebook. thor leaves & coulson is like oh heres all your stuff by the way good luck on the science thing. yeah that doesnt seem suspiciously chill for someone of your occupation

3-bruce: okay so they dont have screen time together but we have a scene of steve asking coulson about bruce & like coulson focuses more on the genius thing than the rage monster thing so like shout out to coulson for that one!

4-steve: continuing on that conversation, steve is obviously shaken up about the waking up after 70 years thing & thinks that he is "outdated" & says he "hopes he's the man for the job." to which coulson is immediately like what do i hear? are you doubting yourself? sir that is not allowed on shield premises, do you hear me? please have some fricking self confidence yes you can do it.

5-loki: okay so obviously this isnt confirmed by canon but cmon you saw my url & the og post you knew what was coming. coulson after being stabbed is somehow the only one that notices that loki's efforts are half hearted. like i could go into the many things that evidence that loki "lacked conviction" and all but i'm tired & lots of posts have already done that. the impressive thing is that only coulson realized. unfortunately he died before that information could be useful. but yeah dude realized something big he was the closest to learn about thanos

6-may: may had been at the desk job for years when coulson showed up. he could tell that may was isolating herself (anyone could she played it very obviously) but he's the only one that tried for so long to help & the only one to succeed to get her out of the isolation. it's a different type of "seeing good in her" it's not like she was evil or anything but he had faith in her and her ability to heal. & i respect that man.

6.5-fitzsimmons: i didnt know what order to put them & i'm tired & dont want to change the numbers. similar to may, he saw "good" in them in that he had a faith that no one else had in them at the time. they're two young shield agents that werent cleared for combat. had no experience. only science. & coulson was like frick yeah i'll take them. always encouraged them & had a complete faith that they could do the impossible science things. also come round s4 & coulson is defending fitz from himself about the framework!

7-daisy: in may's words, "if someone breaks into my place, i wouldn't invite them back, but that's just me." daisy was a criminal pretty much hacking into shield & others but coulson saw her for 1 second & was like yeah no this chick isnt an evil hacker or whatever drugged ward that very minute & invited her to the team. daisy betrays them kinda bc of miles or whatever & coulson is like okay you can stay also yes i'll figure stuff out about your parents. best fricking decisions he's made in his life turns out bc *later seasons* but yeah what may said not just anyone wouldve done it but coulson did bc he saw good in her

8-ward: okay tecnhically this was pre daisy but i dont care. & this part is gonna be controversial but i also dont care. what ward did was unexcusable. but coulson knew about ward's family, while he didnt know about hydra. he saw the trauma. & he def gave ward a chance to grow as a person & learn to work on a team. like coulson saw the possibility of growth. not his fault that ward didnt choose that path. but ward couldve given up on hydra at any minute in the time he was on the bus. they already had a ex rising tide chick on the bus, why not add a ex hydra? he couldve chosen at any minute. not coulsons fault that he never decided to change even after everything.

9-mack & bobbi: i'm putting them together bc it's basically the same story. 2 ex shield agents coulson found & recruited. & they both def were doing what they thought was right. & doing their jobs very well, if i may say so. & yet again coulson gets betrayed by these 2 who are working for the secret other shield. like i said, coulson puts an emphasis on the good of people generally, & obv mack & bobbi are good people

10-fricking hunter: watch the first couple episodes of s2. there is no logical sense why coulson lets hunter stay but he does. he lets this random mercenary that bobbi recommended despite his overall distaste of following orders & the general chaos that follows him. then offers him a permanent job. like idk man if i were coulson i would not be allowing hunter on any missions after s2e1 so like dude mustve seen something in hunter turned out great though hunter was a great asset! really helped in the latter half of s2 & helped fitz in s5!

plus there's probably more people but that's all i'm thinking of this second

but anyway the point of this is:

coulson emphasizes the good in people, & i see that so admirable. like it would be super easy for him be closed off and untrusting bc of his profession. especially after the whole dying and shield being hydra stuff. but man keeps going, having faith in humanity & preferring to hope that people will be good than assume that all humans are awful. i find that so admirable & that is definitely part of his charm. that's why he's likeable. because he believes in humanity & he believes in those around him. he's willing to give second chances and help people become their best selves.

Random idea that I thought you might appreciate. The showrunners really leaned into the horror aspects of Macaque's powers in S3Ep4, and I can't help but think about how much nightmare fuel he would be with a more unhinged personality. Like say, transplant the personality of Freddy from Nightmare on Elm Street into Mac and he would be truly terrifying, maybe even more than LBD. LBD at least operates on some sort of logic, but Mac would be motivated only by his own twisted sense of humor.

ok so part of the reason i love canon macaque is that hes literally Just Some Guy. his motives start and end at selfish 'ive been hurt, time to make other hurt' and thats it. like. everyone knew the story of DBK, and once DBK gained power again his plan was 'take over the city and rule'. same for spider queen, who wants to rule the city and LBD who wants to (control?) change the world but macaque doesnt want any of that, he has no higher purpose hes literally Just Some Random Guy that even MK doesnt know. so like him going off the rails? COMPLETELY unpredictable, noone would know what hes doing next, least of all him! its gonna come across much more joker-esque than evil warlord or controlling monarch (disclaimer- i havent seen with any media with the joker in since heath ledger and under red hood djdjdkddjd so its not a specific version joker im talking about) im gonna talk about the actual powers and then the horror part below a cut so it doesnt get too long

and, like you mentioned, his powers were done SO well in s3, the amount of times he dips in and out of the shadows, steps backwards into them, completely used to how they work, and how he changes the atmosphere when he turns up? MY GOD some of my actual favourite use of powers like that ive ever seen in media. hes COMPLETELY my aesthetic, and i LOVED how they used his powers in ep4, bathing everything in magenta and stark black, and the voice acting when he sings out 'its just you and me now~' WAS SO FUCKING COOL IM STILL REELING. NOW IMAGINE THAT SITUATION IF HE ACTUALLY WANTED TO HURT MK rather than just scare him. THATS TERRIFYING cause his powers are so so good for chaos, hes got bandages that can grab people, he can teleport, step in and and out of shadows, make whole buildings/vehicles out of clones, and while theyre in there he can just? drag them into the abyss?? and this is all stuff he did when he wasnt really hurting them that much, i dread to think what else he'd be able to do if he was out for blood.

and he already uses the scare factor quite a bit but like, the ability to separate people like that is really really good for horror. and hed think it was SO funny to do it. AND THE CONSTANT TALKING? hed watch some run through a shadow maze and just laugh at them and tell them all the ways they could die. i dont even think youd have to change his personality that much, just make him a bit more violent. (although im aware weve only seen him in the show at his very worst (around swk, the person who killed him, in s1&2, and then desperate and trying to escape an abusive situation in s3. this doesnt absolve him of anything but weve definitely only seen him at his worst times))

can you imagine? being stuck in the dark? void in all directions and the remains of the room you were in just cutting off in artificial darkness? you dont know where you are, you dont know where HE is, theres one light and youre staying under it in some illusion of safety because you KNOW he thrives in the shadows and maybe, just maybe if you stay in the light youll stand a chance. youre trying to stay quiet despite knowing he already knows where you are, trying to control your breathing and listen for him. is he circling out there just beyond where the light touches, waiting? can you bring yourself to step into the shadows or are you going to stay under the light until it- flickers. and flickers again. and then goes out. because it was an illusion of safety to begin with, and this was just a game for him, and he thinks is funny when he kills you. :D i love horror
