Pyramid Lake, Nevada
This area has long been inhabited by the Paiute, who ancestrally fished the Tui chub, Cui-ui, and Lahontan cutthroat trout from the lake. The Shoshone and Washo also regularly fished in the lake. According to traditional narratives, the Washo specifically were given fishing rights in Pyramid Lake after assisting the Paiutes in defeating a nearby tribe of giants.

Nearly 14,000 Nevada voters must verify their identity with election officials to cure the signature on their mail-in ballots or their votes won’t count in what was expected to be a close presidential race, according to the secretary of state.
The deadline for voters to cure their ballots is 5 p.m. Nov. 12, officials said. [. . .]
Ballots need to be cured if the signature on file with the elections department doesn’t match, or if the voter failed to sign their mail ballot.
When there is a signature issue, the Clark County Election Department notifies voters by telephone, email, and U.S. mail. The phone call from Clark County will come from 702-455-8683, officials said.
Officials urge voters to check if their ballot was accepted by using the state's online tool.

I love this addition, because it's so important. In my psychology class I show the video of Washoe the Chimp using ASL — the video edited by her handlers motivated to make her look good — and then I show a video of humans conversing in ASL. There is no comparison.
Washoe's "phrases" are mostly the same sign repeated a few times, and she never puts more than 3 words together. The humans in an intro-level ASL class can make sentences, ask/answer questions, and convey new info with this language they encountered 4 months ago. Washoe can't after 15 years of 24/7 instruction.
@thechekhov is right that part of the issue is lack of ASL fluency among the researchers. Most of us recognize that a parrot who goes "pretty bird! I love you! Pretty bird!" isn't trying to say "I believe that you are a bird who is pretty and therefore I love you"; he's just imitating sounds. Washoe making one sign at a time with no context modifiers isn't speaking ASL, and it's an insult to the language to assume otherwise.
if you think about it, every time we tranquilize animals to transport them safely to another place, we are the sleep paralysis demon

How to Prepare for a Final Clean in Clark County: Tips and Tricks
When the hustle and bustle of construction comes to an end, a crucial step remains: the final clean. This phase is essential for ensuring that a newly built or renovated space is not only visually appealing but also safe for its intended use. In Clark County, where construction projects vary from residential homes to commercial buildings, understanding the nuances of a final clean can make all the difference. This article delves into practical tips and tricks that can help streamline this process, ensuring a thorough and effective clean that meets industry standards.
Understanding the Importance of a Final Clean
The final clean serves as the finishing touch to any construction project. It goes beyond mere aesthetics; a deep clean is vital for removing dust, debris, and any remnants of construction that could compromise the safety and comfort of the space. In Clark County, where new developments are consistently emerging, this step is particularly crucial. A well-executed final clean can enhance the overall quality of the project, impress potential buyers or tenants, and ensure compliance with local regulations.
Furthermore, a thorough final clean can have lasting benefits. It sets the stage for future maintenance, making it easier to keep the space in pristine condition. By removing all traces of construction, including hazardous materials, the final clean minimizes health risks for occupants. Therefore, preparing effectively for this phase is essential for any construction project in the region.
Preparing for the Final Clean: Key Steps
The preparation for a final clean in Clark County should begin well before the cleaning crew arrives. A comprehensive plan that includes organization, scheduling, and resource allocation will ensure that the process runs smoothly. First and foremost, it’s important to assess the site. This involves walking through the space to identify any areas that may require special attention, such as high ceilings, intricate fixtures, or heavily trafficked zones that may have accumulated more dirt.
Next, creating a detailed checklist can serve as a valuable tool throughout the cleaning process. This checklist should outline all tasks that need to be completed, such as dusting surfaces, cleaning windows, scrubbing floors, and sanitizing bathrooms. By breaking down the cleaning tasks into manageable segments, the team can systematically address each area without overlooking important details. Additionally, having a clear timeline helps keep the team on track, ensuring that the final clean is completed promptly, which is particularly important in a fast-paced construction environment.
Choosing the Right Cleaning Supplies and Equipment
Equipping the cleaning team with the right tools and supplies is essential for achieving optimal results during the final clean. In Clark County, where projects can vary widely, it’s important to consider the specific requirements of each job. For example, a residential project may require different cleaning products than a commercial space. Eco-friendly cleaning solutions are becoming increasingly popular, not only for their effectiveness but also for their safety and environmental benefits.
In addition to cleaning products, having the right equipment is crucial. High-quality vacuums, microfiber cloths, mops, and scrubbing brushes should be on hand to tackle various surfaces effectively. For hard-to-reach areas, such as ceiling fans or tall windows, extension tools may be necessary. Investing in professional-grade equipment can significantly enhance the efficiency of the cleaning process, allowing the team to achieve superior results in less time.
Implementing Efficient Cleaning Techniques
Once the preparation is complete and the cleaning supplies are gathered, the focus shifts to the actual cleaning techniques. Employing systematic and efficient methods can greatly improve the quality of the final clean. One effective technique is to start from the top and work down. This means beginning with high surfaces, such as ceilings and light fixtures, before moving down to walls and floors. This approach prevents dust and debris from falling onto already cleaned surfaces, ensuring a thorough clean throughout.
Another important aspect of the final clean is paying attention to detail. While it may be tempting to rush through the process, taking the time to meticulously clean corners, edges, and crevices can make a noticeable difference in the overall appearance of the space. Additionally, using the right tools for specific tasks—such as using squeegees for windows or specialized cleaners for different types of flooring—can enhance the effectiveness of the cleaning effort.
Furthermore, it’s crucial to conduct a post-clean inspection. This allows the team to identify any areas that may need additional attention before the project is deemed complete. A thorough walkthrough ensures that no detail is overlooked and that the space meets the high standards expected by clients in Clark County.
Conclusion: Trust the Experts for Your Final Clean
In the competitive landscape of construction in Clark County, ensuring a top-notch final clean is essential for project success. By understanding the importance of this phase, preparing effectively, utilizing the right tools, and implementing efficient cleaning techniques, construction teams can deliver exceptional results that satisfy clients and meet regulatory standards.
For those looking for professional assistance with their final clean, J&S Construction Clean Up, Inc. offers expert services tailored to the unique needs of each project. With a commitment to quality and attention to detail, they ensure that every space is left in pristine condition, ready for its new occupants. Trusting experienced professionals for the final clean can not only save time but also elevate the overall quality of any construction project in Clark County.

This seems like a good place to drop an article about the fact that the Washoe tried to give the Donner Party food (and as I recall from another article, warn them off wintering where they did) only to be shot at:
https://nationalpost.com/news/canada/theyre-not-human-how-19th-century-inuit-coped-with-a-real-life-invasion-of-the-walking-dead
Indigenous groups across the Americas had all encountered Europeans differently. But where other coastal groups such as the Haida or the Mi’kmaq had met white men who were well-fed and well-dressed, the Inuit frequently encountered their future colonizers as small parties on the edge of death.
“I’m sure it terrified people,” said Eber, 91, speaking to the National Post by phone from her Toronto home.
And it’s why, as many as six generations after the events of the Franklin Expedition, Eber was meeting Inuit still raised on stories of the two giant ships that came to the Arctic and discharged columns of death onto the ice.
Inuit nomads had come across streams of men that “didn’t seem to be right.” Maddened by scurvy, botulism or desperation, they were raving in a language the Inuit couldn’t understand. In one case, hunters came across two Franklin Expedition survivors who had been sleeping for days in the hollowed-out corpses of seals.
“They were unrecognizable they were so dirty,” Lena Kingmiatook, a resident of Taloyoak, told Eber.
Mark Tootiak, a stepson of Nicholas Qayutinuaq, related a story to Eber of a group of Inuit who had an early encounter with a small and “hairy” group of Franklin Expedition men evacuating south.
“Later … these Inuit heard that people had seen more white people, a lot more white people, dying,” he said. “They were seen carrying human meat.”
Even Eber’s translator, the late Tommy Anguttitauruq, recounted a goose hunting trip in which he had stumbled upon a Franklin Expedition skeleton still carrying a clay pipe.
By 1850, coves and beaches around King William Island were littered with the disturbing remnants of their advance: Scraps of clothing and camps still littered with their dead occupants. Decades later, researchers would confirm the Inuit accounts of cannibalism when they found bleached human bones with their flesh hacked clean.
“I’ve never in all my life seen any kind of spirit — I’ve heard the sounds they make, but I’ve never seen them with my own eyes,” said the old man who had gone out to investigate the Franklin survivors who had straggled into his camp that day on King William Island.
The figures’ skin was cold but it was not “cold as a fish,” concluded the man. Therefore, he reasoned, they were probably alive.
“They were beings but not Inuit,” he said, according to the account by shaman Nicholas Qayutinuaq.
The figures were too weak to be dangerous, so Inuit women tried to comfort the strangers by inviting them into their igloo.
But close contact only increased their alienness: The men were timid, untalkative and — despite their obvious starvation — they refused to eat.
The men spit out pieces of cooked seal offered to them. They rejected offers of soup. They grabbed jealous hold of their belongings when the Inuit offered to trade.
When the Inuit men returned to the camp from their hunt, they constructed an igloo for the strangers, built them a fire and even outfitted the shelter with three whole seals.
Then, after the white men had gone to sleep, the Inuit quickly packed up their belongings and fled by moonlight.
Whether the pale-skinned visitors were qallunaat or “Indians” — the group determined that staying too long around these “strange people” with iron knives could get them all killed.
“That night they got all their belongings together and took off towards the southwest,” Qayutinuaq told Dorothy Eber.
But the true horror of the encounter wouldn’t be revealed until several months later.
The Inuit had left in such a hurry that they had abandoned several belongings. When a small party went back to the camp to retrieve them, they found an igloo filled with corpses.
The seals were untouched. Instead, the men had eaten each other.
#many such cases#because you’d rather eat each other than admit indigenous people are better at anything than you#Victorian cannibalism#settler colonialism#settler dumbassery#donner party#washoe#history#cw cannibalism
