Nearly 14,000 Nevada voters must verify their identity with election officials to cure the signature on their mail-in ballots or their votes won’t count in what was expected to be a close presidential race, according to the secretary of state.
The deadline for voters to cure their ballots is 5 p.m. Nov. 12, officials said. [. . .]
Ballots need to be cured if the signature on file with the elections department doesn’t match, or if the voter failed to sign their mail ballot.
When there is a signature issue, the Clark County Election Department notifies voters by telephone, email, and U.S. mail. The phone call from Clark County will come from 702-455-8683, officials said.
Officials urge voters to check if their ballot was accepted by using the state's online tool.

tumblr is really bad a politics actually. please don't form opinions about political systems on tumblr. oh my god. this made me literally blind with rage and confusion for a second there.
just because the mainstream democratic party has started using "threats to democracy" as part of its campaign strategy this election cycle doesn't mean this is untrue?? please don't let your hatred for mainstream democratic political messaging make you also hate that it has FINALLY cottoned onto the fact that the american right would like us to stop living in a multiracial democracy/pluralistic society. that is a good thing, actually. it's a good thing that mainstream politics are finally willing to acknowledge that one of the two major parties is only interested in trying to destroy the political system we live under, is only interested in shoving gravel down our toilets so they blow up.
we do actually have a democracy. it's not a total direct democracy. there are a shit ton of flaws in the system. this is in part because, in fact, it's a relatively young democracy! I agree with nikole hannah-jones' assertion that the u.s. has only been a democracy for real since the 1960s, when civil rights legislation Black americans fought and died for started going into effect.
which is why this moment, 60 years on, is so important. it's a radical stress-testing of a system that it's important to preserve so that we can continue to make more progress from this point. we have to prove that the system can work this way.
i get it. voting sucks. gerrymandering has backed so many of us into a corner. we've politically and legally incentivized imprisoning members of minority populations so that they can no longer vote. the supreme court actually gutted some of that legislation passed in the 1960s that made us into a real democracy, sending us into the period of backsliding that we're currently in.
do you know how many of the candidates I voted for in my last election won? zero. ZERO. every single one of them lost. I get it, okay? this all sucks! it makes you feel powerless! but you can't let that feeling win.
that feeling is a lie they're trying to sell you so that you give up. so that you stop fighting for the democracy we've got. "bourgeois democracy" get the fuck out of here. oh my god. shut up.

Happy ‘Let’s Kick Out the Tories’ Day!
(Equally applicable for Brits and Americans since it was a Tory government from 1770-1782 too)

hello Americans. This is a reminder that primaries exist and if you’re really pissed off at Joe Biden now is a really good time to vote uncommitted delegates. We have to send a message to the DNC to start fielding better candidates without handing votes to Trump. Remember there are many policies Joe Biden could have that would make you fight for a different democratic candidate (being anti abortion or anti gun control for example), I’d encourage you to add “failure to prevent the annihilation of the people of Gaza” to that list.

I just accidentally read some Nick Kristof tweets, and I want to shake so many of the pundits on the American left. I really don’t think they’re taking this seriously—either that or they have their heads completely and utterly up their asses. Probably both. Trump will, if given the chance, destroy your democracy and our planet. That’s all that matters. So, from the rest of us here hurtling through space and time with you on this bit of rock, shut the fuck up, and do what needs to be done. You can all go back to being petty little shits* after the election.
*The pundits, I mean—not you.

What would Leo do?
So, my friend, if you want to start using American military strength as the arm of the Lord . . . You can do that. We’re the only superpower left. You can conquer the world like Charlemagne. But you’d better be prepared to kill everyone. And you’d better start with me. ’Cause I will raise up an army against you. And I will beat you.

i have a problem with the theory that by not voting for democrats and letting democrats lose badly enough this november, we can force them to take a good hard look at themselves and swing to the left. well, actually, there are a couple problems, but here's tonight's object lesson:
the problem is the RNC Autopsy.
Republicans got pretty well spanked in the 2012 presidential election, and VERY well spanked in the 2008 presidential election. people decided not to vote for republicans, and let them lose so badly that the republican party took a good hard look at themselves.
The result was a report released in 2013, wiki page linked above. And they did exactly what some people on the left hope democrats will do in the coming years, should they lose in november 2024! They said hey, apparently being racist and hating poor people and only talking to whites isn't getting us anywhere! Why don't we try a different, kinder, more inclusive approach if we want to win elections?
Nice, right? Good proof of concept?
Unfortunately, history didn't stop in 2013.
Unfortunately, we all know how this story ends. It ends with a fascist reality TV star becoming president and encouraging the republican party that actually, its problem is that it wasn't racist and poor-hating enough. Actually, Trump told the republican party, your problem is that you've gone too long without saying the quiet part out loud. No more euphemisms, no more obfuscation, and definitely no movement to the left. Be full-throated in your hatred of immigrants.
And, like it or not, that did win Trump the election. Which convinced the republican party that he was right. They completely abandoned the ideas proposed in the RNC autopsy, and I don't know that they'll ever find their way back to that point.
So, when people say they don't want to support democrats, and they hope that by letting democrats lose the elections they'll move the democratic party to the left...i wouldn't be so sure.
In fact, if that happens, what I predict we'll see is a democratic party prepared to swing to the right. Sure, it'll still have a progressive wing. The Squad will live on. But they'll be increasingly ostracized by a party that will be even more obsessed with courting the forgotten white man, by toning down its inclusivity, by backing off of more expansive social safety nets and wealth taxes.
Like it or not—I certainly find it depressing to consider—Joe Biden is the most left-leaning president we've had in a long, long time. Certainly since Jimmy Carter, and perhaps since even before him. If he loses in November, if his party loses in November, I guarantee their washington insider strategists will find a way to blame it on progressiveness and walk us back at least a decade, if not more.
I'm not happy about any of this. But this is, I believe, the reality we're facing.
