The Boston Public Garden is one of my favorite spots in the city and it really shines in the wintertime on the cold and snowy nights. This was pretty one... out too late, camera's in hand, and just walking around making pictures.

Oculis Lodge, Glacier, Washington's Cascade Mountains, United States,
Oculus means “eye” in Latin. And in architecture, it refers to a window or shape that has an opening of an oval or circular shape. For the Oculis Lodge, that means a striking 15-foot slylight at the top of every unit, which drenches the space in light during the day and offers prime stargazing at night.
The name also calls attention the eco-conscious structure of the dome-shaped cabins. Each build has a rock-solid airform structure that requires 50 percent less energy to heat and cool than conventional structures. Only recycled concrete, reclaimed wood and recycled materials were used to build the pods.

Oh righttttt I forgot a random pop star is responsible for all that and can never dare acknowledge her boyfriend, or else is personally liable for a multi billion dollar institution’s decisions!!!!
#btw did you know#the tribe the redskins are named for are AGGRESSIVELY campaigning Washington to get their team name changed back#because it has very drastically affected the tribe’s income from licensing merch and tourism#and indignant white people complaining fucked it up for them#JSYK

World Tourism Day
Take the plunge and visit that place you’ve always wanted to go on World Tourism Day, or look into tourist locations, functions, and events closer to you.
Travel has been said to broaden the mind, exploring the world and seeing the broad vistas and cultures that the people of the world offer. Tourism can describe travel for pleasure both foreign and domestic, and has been happening as long as long as mankind.
World Tourism Day is your opportunity to broad your own world a little, find a location you’ve always wanted to make time to visit, and finally, get around to making time to do it. So find your inner traveler and get out there and experience the places you’ve always wanted to see.
Learn about World Tourism Day
Tourism expects to grow at a rate of three percent per year until 2030, and this is a trend that we can only see growing and growing beyond that. This growth can be attributed to a number of different reasons. This includes growing middle classes around the world and a reduction in the price of transport, particularly air transport.
The improved adoption of labor rights in a lot of countries and the recognition of the right to holidays in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights have both played a role as well. Despite challenges, such as pandemics, natural disasters, and worldwide economics crises, the tourist sector has experienced virtually uninterrupted growth.
World Tourism Day has been designed to pay tribute to this industry, encourage people to travel, and honor those who do such a good job of working in the tourism sector and enabling us to all fulfil our goals of visiting different places around the world.
Every year, there is a different theme for World Tourism Day. For example, in 2019, the theme was Tourism and Jobs – A Better Future For All. This encourages people to focus on job creation within the tourism sector.
The United Nations wanted to promote the creation of new policies to address the existing mismatch between the tourism skills that are being taught and the skills that are actually needed, as well as to incorporate and reflect the continual advances in technology.
The UN also wanted to create better and more jobs, particularly for youth and women. Because of this, we would definitely recommend finding out what the theme is for World Tourism Day. This can give you inspiration for the most appropriate way to celebrate and observe World Tourism Day and to do your bit for the cause.
History of World Tourism Day
Tourism has been a part of the human experience as long as there have been distant places to go and experience. It was originally the province of the wealthy, with travel being difficult and expensive, but it afforded opportunities to learn new languages, experience different cuisines, and generally see what there was to see.
Tourism can be argued to be traced back to the Shulgi period in Ancient China, when Kings took great pains to protect the roads and build waystations for travelers. In the Middle Ages travel became even more important for religious reasons, Buddhism, Islam, and Christianity all had pilgrimage traditions that required travelling great distances in the interest of health and spiritual improvement.
World Tourism Day was established by The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) to promote sustainable, responsible, and universally accessible tourism. Tourism benefits both the tourist and the locations that they visit, and is one of the major drivers of economic growth.
To this end they’ve put together the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism, to help increase the benefits of tourism while minimizing its impact and protected the people, cultures, and environments of the locations people go to visit and experience.
World Tourism Day is something that has been going for many years now. It was actually the third session of the UNWTO General Assembly whereby it was decided that World Tourism Day would be instituted. This happened in Spain at Torremolinos in September of 1979.
This led to the first World Tourism Day taking place the following year, in 1980. The date was selected so that it would coincide with a vital milestone in global tourism, this being the anniversary of when the UNWTO Statues were adopted on the 27th of September in 1970. It is also an appropriate choice because it marks the beginning of the season in the southern hemisphere and the conclusion of the high season in the northern hemisphere.
How to celebrate World Tourism Day
World Tourism Day is best celebrated by digging into your book of dreams and finding that place in the world you most wish to go. If you’re unable to get yourself there now, plan for the future and take a closer trip to get yourself into the groove of going out, seeing the world, and travelling.
If you live in a tourist destination, you can get yourself involved in how tourism works in your area and see what you can do to help protect your local heritage, cultural sites, and help share the wonders and history of your area with those who come to see it.
You can also use World Tourism Day in order to raise awareness about the industry and the different challenges that are faced. Speak up and use your voice to promote better working conditions for those in the tourism sector. You can also use the date to promote hidden gems around the world, which could do with an influx in tourists in order to boost their economy and get their communities on the map.
Reflect on the amazing places that you have had the honor of visiting already, as well as planning the places that you want to visit in the future!

The Grass is Greener
I’m home now from my spring break road trip, so this is part two: the way home. Looking through my photographs, all I could think of was green. You know I’m a die-hard New Englander, but the mid-atlantic and southern states simply have better springs, period. All is green rather than brown. We’ll get that green, but it won’t be for a while. Picking up where I left off with my last post, I drove…

Planning on heading outdoors over Memorial Day weekend? Bring me along and I'll help you learn more about the wildlife and habitats we encounter along the way! I'm primarily going to be working on the coast in the Columbia-Pacific Region (Seaside, Astoria, Long Beach Peninsula, etc.) on Friday, but I'm available to work elsewhere in the Pacific Northwest the rest of the time.
The sooner you can get in touch, the sooner we can make arrangements! I can go ahead and schedule right now for Washington State Parks in the Long Beach area (including the beach!), and any Oregon State Park. Some other places will require permits, and turnaround may not be long enough for all of them, but let's get talking now so we can make things happen.
Whether you want to work with me for the holiday, or make plans for a different weekday or weekend, head over to HireaNaturalist.com !
