Booping around in Ana's survival Fallout 4 game, and totally forgot what Graygarden had in store for anyone who even thinks about sneezing wrong in the direction of the bot-bots. Then while setting up to build on Spectacle Island, I got a notification for Warwick being in trouble. Welp, I'm in the neighborhood, may as well swim over... and see if I can get there before their ridiculous defensive firepower takes out the whatever-that-is. Nnnnnope.
Oh, rebel Gunners, sweet! More outfits for more new recruits. Glowing deathclaw puppers ate one of them, good boy. Looks like you have a new friend, let's let 'em out! :D

...she is literally the leader of another organisation. In full uniform. I really don't think she's here for recruitment.
I did the quest anyway, and- I like the Atom Cats. Nice to see a gang who're actually trying to help people, and their arrangement of technical expertise in exchange for food with Warwick Homestead seems pretty equitable.
For Georgia, though...she came very close to killing on sight when she saw the Power Armour, because that mostly means Brotherhood, and these days, what remains of the Brotherhood has a bit of a 'shoot on sight' policy towards her, on account of...you know. The Prydwen thing. She's...feeling a bit shitty for that reflex now, even if nobody actually got killed, and feeling even worse about the fact that she's got that habituated to violence that it's become a first resort.
But, so far, this hasn't ended badly. No violence, she's got an open invitation to their next beat poetry night, and as it turns out, they're a pretty friendly group who help out their neighbours and care a lot about doing quality mechanical work. They even know Sturges! I'm now sort of sorry I didn't run into these guys earlier.
Also, the leather jacket with a cat on the back is just neat, what do you want from me?

Wednesday 22nd February 2023
Drizzle! What a wake up call! Well we were travelling so that's okay. First up as soon as we had started the 176km journey was to pop into the Pit Stop café in Woodenbong for breakfast.
The girl there assured us that it would be possible to do proper sunny side up eggs with the English style bacon and toast. Assurances given we chose a nice table in the courtyard before it chucked it down again. Whilst we waited, a local called Tim felt we would benefit from his life history and family genealogy dating back to Viking times! As you can imagine, a timeline of this longevity can take a little while and we were well into the toast section before we could persuade him we didn't know anyone called Dennis in England and for peace to descend on our repast and for the second day running the Aboriginal waitresses forgot our coffee.
We have really unexpectedly enjoyed Woodenbong and were sad to leave it. But Woodenbong in the rain would not have been a great prospect so off we went in the Nissan through the stunning countryside set amongst the mountain range of the Tooloom National Park.. The first town on route was Legume. Well I'm sure it was but there was nothing there and we missed it. Soon after this somewhat anonymous encounter, we suddenly left NSW behind us and we found ourselves in Queensland, The Sunshine State. Not only lost NSW but also an hour, it was 12.10 again! The second town on our trip today was Killarney; a charming little place that we felt deserved a look. It was named by a land surveyor and homesteader John Sydney O'Brien in 1840 because it reminded him of Killarney in Southern Ireland, so he poured a pint of Irish in the lake and named it Killarney. To start with it had a little antique shop with a very chatty Aussie lady in it. Top marks so far then. The heritage centre was shut of course but it did have a box of tourist maps outside. We trailed around the township with one looking at the heritage buildings and were entirely satisfied with Killarney. Then the rain started again and we rejoined our route; next stop Warwick. No not that one. With no castle to look at we wondered what it would yield. Tourist information ladies were extremely helpful in providing a town map with its heritage route clearly highlighted for us. Basically, fundamentally, you just walk around the block to see the Town Hall, Masonic Centre, Church, Police Station and Law Courts, but even so it was very enjoyable and the map was also able to direct us to the station where there's an embryo of a heritage railway, the Southern Downs Steam Railway. We were shown around the fascinating little museum and engine shed by an extremely enthusiastic volunteer who explained the hopes and plans for this enterprise. Interest in heritage railway is steadily growing in Australia and I'm sure it will have a great future. It's just about 30years behind the UK in capability.
With one more stop for a brew, we headed on to our new digs for the next couple of nights in Cranley, a rural suburb of Toowoomba, which is probably roughly 130km due west and inland from Brisbane. It's a lovely spacious apartment, probably the largest we've had, in the grounds of our landlords house and shared by two goats, chickens and a duck. I think we shall be happy here. We can now say that combining both this and our last trip in 2019, we have now travelled all the way from Victoria across NSW and into Queensland.
Other parts of Australia are suffering at the moment. Southern Australia is experiencing a heat wave, north of Melbourne there's a large bush fire, Sydney had flash flooding yesterday and NZ North Island is really struggling with the after effects of Cyclone Gabrielle leaving billions of dollars worth of damage especially in the Hastings and Napier region of Hawkes Bay.
ps. It might be The Sunshine State, but Thursday morning finds us in cloud and 19 degrees. Weather promises to improve.

Historic Sydney homestead makes market debut
Tumblr media
Five years after the death of Lady (Mary) Fairfax some of the grand mansions that once made up her vast property portfolio are still being sold off, and the historic Orielton Homestead at Harrington Park is the latest up for sale.
The widow of Sir Warwick Fairfax died in 2017, aged 95, and the crown of that portfolio, her Point Piper home, the 1881-built Fairwater residence, sold a year later for a national house price record of $100 million to tech billionaire Mike Cannon-Brookes.

This one is whumpier than my previous ones, no happy ending here. Be warned.
@whumptober2020
Fallout 4tober prompt list
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Sole ghosts into the Situation Room. She has no escort; she convinced Ayo that she had learned her way around well enough, thank you, she’s catching up on the information she needs to become director and would rather be able to talk with the directors and staff one-on-one without a Courser looming and yes she’s sure she doesn’t need the extra security or guidance, thank you very much. She just needs to be able to wander the Institute alone. To the Situation Room.
She floats around the room, dreamlike, barely conscious of the movement of her feet. Takes in the wall of command terminals, the war table with the map of the Commonwealth, the monitors. So many monitors. Lining the wall, row after row. Hanging above the table. Every monitor with a unique video of the Commonwealth.
There’s Diamond City, a view over the chapel and the catwalk up to the Mayor’s office. There Nick and Piper meet, talk silently, pixelated mouths invisible on the small screen. They head up the catwalk, vanish out of sight, out of reach.
Another screen, Goodneighbor. The view swings back and forth, tilts, the Watcher hosting this camera more bird than cameraman.  Triggermen hold guard positions against buildings. Drifters drift across the courtyard like leaves.
Warwick. A view over the pumpkin patch by the sea. A man walks through it, Roger Warwick, vaguely recognizable at this distance, admiring the crop. Well, the synth Roger Warwick. The synth replacement that the Institute planted to run their pumpkin crop experiment. Information she’s gleaned from Institute terminals. But what is she supposed to do with it? Who is she supposed to tell?
Another man comes up to him, Bill Sutton, homestead foreman, who doesn’t know that the wife and children he abandoned died months ago trying to replace the brahmin he traded for chems. What good would it do for him to know?
The two seem to talk, pixelated figures in flickering, tilting blue. Digital figments in an aseptic nightmare. The screen grows bigger, filling her view. She’s almost forgotten she’s not there instead of…
Sutton pulls a gun. No. Warwick stumbles back, hands in the air. Sutton advances. Sutton knows. Warwick shakes his head. Warwick doesn’t want to die. The synth doesn’t want to die. Warwick’s wife suddenly appears, sweet, enduring June, dashing to her husband, putting herself between him and the gun. She doesn’t want her husband to die. She doesn’t know her husband is already dead.
They’re pitting you against each other! Stop this! I can help you! Listen to me! But they don’t hear her desperate thoughts. They can’t hear her. She can do nothing. They are there, unprotected, and she is…
Sutton charges, rips June away. Approaches Warwick, who tried to go to his wife, and now is backing away again, hands still raised. Who is now knocked backward to the ground, and she wants to find the rewind button, the stop, turn this tape off, pull the monitor from the wall and dash it to the floor, because this wasn’t supposed to happen, she was supposed to be there, to fix it, like she always fixes everything. And her hands touch the cold plastic of the monitor and the staticky warm screen and she’s abruptly pulled back into her body. She is here, trapped in the Institute in all but name. And every moment more she stays is another moment she’s not protecting the spooked and volatile Commonwealth from destroying itself.
She sees Sutton walk away across the blue pixeled screen as June crawls towards the body. She doesn’t want to see more. The view shifts abruptly and sweeps away; the Watcher seems to have heard her plea and taken flight. She lets herself slide to the floor, lets consciousness float away again from her body, from here.
It is a long time before she’s found by a Courser and returned to her room.

Fallout 4 latest playthrough tour, continued. Here’s one photo from Warwick Homestead. I think it looks cool from this angle but I’m still working on the interior. Also those assholes are always unhappy for some reason.
The other four shots are from a new “Minutemen Outpost” that I created on Spectacle Island. I have a lot of work to do on the rest of the island but I like how this little MM station turned out.

So, this is...iffy, morally speaking. Okay, the goal is to walk away with everyone alive, but that involves quite a lot of lying to people about whether or not their husband/father is dead and has been replaced by a synth. Which...is something the Warwicks (I can never get used to the American pronunciation of that) deserve to know. On the other hand, Roger here...it's not his fault. He's a slave as much as the rest of them, and from what I can tell, he wasn't even involved in the abduction and torture of the original Roger - he was created from that, as a copy, so presumably bears no more responsibility than Nick does for the massive, massive ethics violation that was taking the original Nick Valentine's brain-scans without his consent and lying to him about why they wanted them. And he deserves to live too.
And also, if his cover gets blown, the Institute is probably going to wipe out everyone living at Warwick Homestead. So there's that to worry about on top of everything else.
Yeah, I think this one is going to end with Georgia needing a very stiff drink and asking Nick if he thinks she did the right thing (as the person she knows with the most functional moral compass).
