Similar Concepts vs Northshore Waterplay Concept

The plan for the Waterplay Concept is to build the foundation next to the existing construction underway for the park which is below the area of the silo. The reason why I think this is different from the other existing placemaking water pads is due to the brief, the concept will follow the Indigenous and Industrial Port History of the area by incorporating their history rather than just using the materials left from that time period. I plan to design a mini ship that spreads water and allow children to play in. Another concept is to create a small river that mimics the Brisbane River and shading which provides adults to cool off too. This river aims to also include Indigenous art and Story-telling around the area similarly to the pictures below which we will hire an Indigenous Artist as a representative of designing Papunya art and incorporating it into the river and the water pad floor is shown in figure 5. Also, the area in which it is situated does not have natural shade from trees which creates a hot atmosphere but by adding an area to cool down a summer heat or even in the winter when occasionally it is warm, it provides the diverse community with a place to dip their feet in and have the kids play together bringing a community closer. Using the wood from the area and incorporating for sitting and shade will assist with the heat as well.

We considered making the sign an interactive sign. This includes some climbing rope and ladder and pole segments of the sign, almost like a playground feel to the sign. This would ideally attract more children and young adults to the sign, perhaps bringing the family after school or in the weekends. However, after contemplating this aspect of the project, we decided not to as the river sign may become to complicated as it still needs to spell out ‘warrill’. This will also require more maintenance and a more extensive architectural design. Also, it may become more of a structural hazard as it is still made of wood and may cause more cuts and splinters for those who go on it. Thus, we have decided to keep the idea simply, and focus on its cultural attraction aspect. This will save on money, keep the idea integral to the community and will be an easier and safer project to fulfill. 

After our meeting, we have finalised our presentation, we have practiced numerous times, we aim to keep it simple and straight to the point in order to convince the board.
