Chris: Warlords of Atlantis aka Warlords of the Deep, is another 70’s British fantasy film with Doug McClure, this time he is diving to the bottom of the ocean, cool monsters and fun effects, villain is a Brian Eno clone in a sparkly chainmail skirt, a rare gem not to be missed, Watch: When Free.
Richie: Hopefully it will be remastered because the copy of this looked terrible, looked like it had some fun special effects but definitely not high definition, Watch: When Free.

Places that I know dinosaurs live in DC:-
Dinosaur Island, which is a tropical island with a volcano and dinosaurs;
Skartaris, which is the land inside the hollow Earth and has dinosaurs roaming as wild animals;
Space: Mr Dinosaur and the dinosaur Galactic Auditor accountant bureaucrats;
Alternate timeline caused by Booster Gold stopping the Chichxulub impact: home of the Jurassic League, where all heroes and villains are dinosaurs (either identical to or what caused the formation of Earth 27);
The past during the Cretaceous period or before (normal time travel with Rip Hunter and/or time spheres edition);
Atlantis, at least in terms of ancient Atlantis, where Arion hangs out (look Modern Atlantis might also have them but I do know Arion's nonsense involves them);
The water next to a malfunctioning neutron bomb which has formed a minor time rift, allowing water dinosaurs to travel into the present day and cause Nessie-like mythology (thanks, early Birds of Prey stories about the Ravens).

Submariner Summer 35
Do Not Go Gentle Into That #SubmarinerSummer part 35, Namor Nation. We are at a key moment, just like last time, just like next time. Momentous things are afoot. This time, we hail the LAST ISSUE of volume 1 of Tales to Astonish, #101! End of the line is a wonderful Hulk in Asgard cover
Tumblr media
Yes, Tales to Astonish ends here; Tales of Suspense ended as well. But more on that next time. Here at the End, we BEGIN a key story in Namor lore, that of the Man Called Destiny. It starts in the Title splash with Namor, sleeping, haunted by a nightmare...or is he?
Tumblr media
We have Archie Goodwin back on scripts, and Gene Colan back on art; nice. Adkins on inks and Simek on letters rounds out the creatives. Also, look at our lil' man sleep. Do you guys think his wings twitch when he's dreaming? I bet they do.
ANYway, the nightmare figure haunts him, taunts him, and apparently has been doing so since his trip to the ruins of Antarctic Atlantis. Thinking it might be a sign of the memories lost in his past amnesia, he sets off for Antartica again to explore if there might be more there
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But it isn't a Namor story unless he gets attacked. So, a pilot scared that Namor looks at him funny fires missiles at our Prince in flight; doesn't end well for the pilot or his plane, but Namor spares his life and goes on his way.
Bad.
Ass.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Meanwhile, the people of Atlantis mourn their city destroyed by a US submarine. They must now wander in search of a place safer from the surface. But, in their own words, as long as the blue skinned race survives, so does Atlantis; strong indigenous coding here for the Atlanteans
Tumblr media
And hell, they may have lost their city but not their fashion sense; Colan beautifully illustrates their sorrow and resolve and Lady Dorma absolutely SERVING here. Can't blame Warlord Seth for catching feelings for her as a new Atlantean tear-filled trail begins 👀
Tumblr media
For his part, the believed-dead Namor reaches Antarctica, and is compelled by he knows not what to follow a route to a hidden cave. And there he finds an ancient civilization and the ruins of their time-lost, frozen city!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
However, he also finds its icy guardian; or more specifically, it finds him. Namor makes short work of it, though, and it crashes through a wall leading to a fateful chamber...the chamber of A Man Called Destiny!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And that's the beginning of Namor's fateful clash with Destiny, here at the end of Tales to Astonish. The plot isn't the most sophisticated ever, but hinting at getting answers to Namor's amnesia is compelling, it was great to touch base with Atlantis, and Colan delivers Art™
So NEXT, we will have to see what Destiny holds for Namor, but it will no longer be in Tales to Astonish. She was a good ship, but she sails into the past. Also? It won't be tomorrow, I'm afraid, I shall be otherwise engaged. Lo siento 🙏
So probably Wednesday we shall cover: "Call Him Destiny...Or Call Him Death!"

The main problem with Ruby gillman movie is that it sends a message that "bigotry is actually justified and your racist grandparents are right". The second, closely related problem is it's villain.
Firstly, if we look at the film without the spoiler-y marketing, Chelsea/Neressa is written as a twist villain. Like Hans Frozen type twist villain, with little foreshadowing and those "sympathetic" scenes that actually don't amount to anything and might just as well be a lie. Even with the marketing, i think the movie still tricked people into thinking that Chelsea might be a misunderstood villain or have a redemption arc or what not. And twist villains could work well, usually if their turn to villainy makes sense with their preestablished goals and personality (eg. Disney's Atlantis). Or a liar villain could work well if the audience knows of their malicious plans, but the heroes stay in the dark (eg. Scar from Lion King). In general, if the twist or reveal makes the story/conflict less interesting and/or didn't have proper foreshadowing, viewers are bound to dislike it.
Secondly, Chelsea is our only mermaid. And she is, well, evil. It would have been better if we had other good mermaid characters, but she is the only one, which, coupled with Gramamah's generous description of mermaids, makes it seem like all mermaids are as evil as she is.
Thirdly, yes, stories for young children about pure good fighting pure evil are generally fine, it teaches them right and wrong, so they can later consume media with more complex lessons. But in those stories the good guys are usually the underdogs fighting an oppressive evil. In mermaid vs kraken conflict, it's actually mermaids who are at a disadvantage. Krakens are big rulers ("protectors") of the ocean with superpowers. The characters themselves admit that Granmamah is a warlord. Mermaids are small, weak and need a magic trident to even match the power of krakens. Their only "advantage" is being popular with humans, while krakens are feared and hated, but humans have no effect on the story or the conflict. If the story was that mermaids are actually more powerful rulers of the ocean, or the kraken family were the just rules but got conquered/overthrown by evil mermaids, or if both species were of equal power ruling their own parts of the ocean and mermaids decided to go and conquer the peaceful kraken kingdom. Then the good vs evil conflict would have looked less like "how dare these evil inferior minorities challenge the rule of our superior race".
Speaking of which. Ruby's first instinct, even after finding out that "mermaids are actually evil" from her granma, is to judge Chelsea as her own person and assume that mermaids can't be actually evil. Which is, you know, a pretty fair and mature response. When she hears that mermaids suffer from terrible conditions, she actively tries to fight what she sees as injustice. But what lesson does she learn? That she should never question her elders, since they do know better. The story is fighting for the status quo to stay the same, while Ruby is punished to trying to change and improve it.
That's all i can say for now. Other complaints i have are:
humans are virtually useless to the story (including the love interest, tho he had some cute moments), they are just damsels-in-distress and trophies for Ruby to save and get approval from. This movie just as well could happen all under the sea with some minor tweaks.
The human designs are weird and uncanny. Otherwise the visuals are fine.
Ruby's arc is kind of all over the place with her main arc being the classic "believe in yourself", which she mainly gains through hanging out with Chelsea. But isn't Chelsea supposed to be the villain who "leads Ruby astray" from being a good citizen who is not skipping school, lying to her mom or ignoring her friends and crush? Make it make sense, movie.

something that is so annoying to me is when people won’t even entertain the concept of a double entendre in media.
i made a tiktok a while ago about hozier’s eat your young, talking about how it’s obviously first and foremost about the greed of warlords, capitalism, etc, but if you literally read ~the verses~ and not just the chorus (included in the tiktok) there are references to sex (“watch the dressing start to peel”, “feel the edges start to burn”, etc) specifically the concept of love as consumption/cannibalism (one of my FAVORITE themes in media). but people in the comments are so butthurt and can’t even comprehend the IDEA that media can be about ~multiple~ things. i think that thinking critically about media is incredibly important, but if they listened to any of hozier’s other songs (moment’s silence is the first one that come to mind) they would understand that hozier’s songs are often (maybe always) about BOTH sex and social/political issues.
another song that i think about when it comes to double entendres is ethel cain’s strangers which, following the plot of the story is primarily about the way that ethel’s lover literally cannibalizes her (i would 10/10 recommend this album to EVERYONE because the story line is *chef’s kiss*) but when you listen to it independent of the story line, the song can very much sound like it has references to oral sex (“you’re so handsome when i’m all over your mouth”, etc) and kind of that repeated concept of love being similar to cannibalism.
one of the most beautiful things about media is the fact that it’s so multidimensional. megamind can both be about the ineffectiveness of prison systems AND rejecting the concept of a “nice guy”. a bug’s life can both be about overthrowing exploitative capitalist regimes AND the importance of growth and believing in yourself. atlantis can both be about the dangers of capitalism with reference to preserving native lands and cultures AND exploring one’s passion in learning about different cultures.
the importance is the AND in this discussion. y’all just aren’t ready for the AND.
discussion about this is welcome if you’re respectful xx

Befriending a Galvan HCs
-They live on your shoulder now, deal with it. With their brains and your... tallness there's nothing the two of you can't accomplish! Will whisper the hottest intergalactic gossip into your ear.
-If they get into an argument they do expect you to hold them either at eye height or high over the person they are arguing with.
-Your home is their secondary lab now. They have set up a whole thing in the corner of your living room and you are pretty sure not everything they do is completely legal but you ain't gonna tell anyone.
-Randomly tinkers with your stuff without asking. On one hand you now have unlimited internet and wifi on your phone but its also kinda sentient now? Does it have rights now? Do you need to pay it a salary?
-Constantly trolls you about how involved Galvans have been with Earth's history. Oh, didn't you know? The first computer was a Galvan's child's school project. Atlantis existed, then some Galvan just decided to take it as a souvenir. ET was based on a true story but he was actually a Galvan. You never know when they're telling the truth.
-Sometimes not so subtly flexes their intelligence over you. They just want to be admired and praised. Tries however not to sound condescending because they genuinely care about you and think you're smart in your own way.
-Never mention that you are looking for someone to settle down with because your friend will create a complex algorithm that scours not only all the dating apps on Earth but also every single one in the known universe to find you the perfect match.
-"What do you think about this guy? He's an interplanetary warlord looking for someone that likes long walks in the forest, smooth jazz and vanquishing your shared enemies with the fury and passion of a thousand suns. Plus, he's filthy rich and kind of a DILF."
-You're not sure but you think they might have been secretly dosing you with something that will make you age slower. They just don't want to see their best friend die ok :(

I'm guessing you've probably already been asked this but do you have a list of face claims for your accidental warlord series?
I don't have as many as I might, because I don't tend to think like that. That said, the ones I do have are over in the Accidental Warlord Supplements.
Aiden of the Cats: Santiago Cabrera as Aramis in the Three Musketeers
Aubry of the Wolves: Jason Momoa as Ronon Dex in Stargate: Atlantis
Esra of the Bears: Brent Burns as Skane the Viking in Vikings
Agata: Megan Dodds as Marguerite de Ghent in Ever After
Cedric: Christian Kane as Eliot in Leverage
Axel: Booboo Stewart
Roland: William Moseley as Peter Pevensie in The Chronicles of Narnia
Gweld: Stefano Masciolini
young Pavetta: Gaia Mondadori Elen an Craite: Sophia Myles as Isolde in Tristan and Isolde
I hope that helps!

i'd do anything | an sga dubcon reclist
a limited selection of the wealth of dubcon fic in the sga fandom
there is a sliding scale of how dubious the consent is in these fic, as well as other warnings, so please read responsibly.
aliens make them do it
Mercy by astolat | e, 1.5k, rodney / john John stared down at his hands, a little numbly, watching Rodney wrap the long leather strap over and under his wrists, binding them together. Operation Think of Atlantis by Liviapenn | e, 3.4k, rodney / john "Hey," John said after a while, "did anything like this ever happen to any of the SGC teams?" Want by velocitygrass | e, 3.7k, rodney / john They'd found him here three hours ago, naked, arms in shackles that were chained to the ceiling. At One's Pleasure by Ladycat | e, 3.8k, ronon / teyla / rodney / john “I will do this,” Teyla says. If anything, she looks interested at the explanation. Boundaries by esteefee | e, 4.2k, rodney / john The Alien High Priest makes them do it. This was for the AMTDI challenge, finished way too late. And the Boxes Came Tumbling Down by FrankTheSnek | e, 7.3k, rodney / john There was an art to hiding your true self, an art John had mastered. Sometimes however, life forced you into situations where hiding was impossible and all your secrets were revealed. Once things are forced into the open, can John pick up the pieces and hide himself away again? Does he want to? What I Meant To Say by Cesare | e, 7.7k, rodney / john AMTDI, bondage, boots, and bottom!John, by request. Warning, AMTDI noncon/dubcon issues apply. Stay, that's what I meant to say, or do something But what I never say is stay this time I really meant to so bad, this time But you can never really tell when somebody Wants something you want too… -- David Bowie, "Stay" Like She Owns Him by trophic | e, 8.6k, sam / john In order to negotiate with an alien society, Sam needs to bring along a sex slave in a harness. John volunteers. A Little Bit More (But Not Too Much) by Green & Ladycat | e, 10.7k, rodney / john John swallowed, because that should not have been sexy. He found himself breathing shallowly, the scent of Rodney -- sweat and grass and a little bit of mint, like aftershave long faded -- oddly overwhelming. "Just because I'm American military doesn't mean I haven't … wondered," he said, struggling to try and sound normal. Decreasing Radii by cathalin | e, 27k, rodney / john An alien device forces John and Rodney to do something they wouldn't do otherwise. The aftermath is not easy. But sometimes, not-easy leads to good things.

Wake by Speranza | e, 3.3k, john / rodney, multi John's more than a little buzzed by the time he decides to go through with it. Warning: Kind of meta. helpless plaything by torch | e, 8.2k, ronon / rodney / john So, John Sheppard falls through a quantum mirror and ends up in a universe where Rodney and Ronon are warlords. And hey, they like him. A Fate So Sweet by Telesilla | e, 13.7k, rodney / john, multi Rodney McKay, owner of the exclusive brothel Pegasus House, doesn't usually train new workers. Former airship pilot John Sheppard, however, might just prove the exception to the rule in more ways than one. Theban Bond by tigerlady (shetiger) | e, 15.3k, evan / john, evan / rodney / john When John had been promoted to lieutenant colonel, he'd mostly been in shock that Elizabeth had managed to keep him in Atlantis at all. So in shock, in fact, that he hadn't even remembered the other responsibilities that came along with his new rank until Major Evan Lorne showed up at his door, ready to serve. Term of Service by Resonant | e, 16.2k, rodney / john, multi "You're telling me that you would sell your bodies for curiosity, orbital shielding, and a quarter-charged ZPM?" "Well, yeah. The type who'd have your daughter home smiling and maybe a little disappointed by nine pm sharp, even if you'd said ten. Clean cut, easygoing. Good-looking in a way that's completely nonthreatening, even a little bit boring. Safe.
under the influence (drugs and alcohol)
Abandon by Zinnith | e, 2.7k, rodney / john "If you come inside now, I won't be able to help myself." Rodney on alien Viagra. Natural Aptitude by rageprufrock | e, 4.3k, rodney / john "Hey," John said, blinking. "You're kind of a slut, aren't you? This stuff is actually really hard to read through, at least sometimes. I'm trying to stick with Arion's stuff, but it takes some doing sometimes. Either way, I really like how this series gave us a look at ancient atlantis, and at three primordial gods representing order, chaos and the balance between them. I hope these gods became important to the mythos of Doctor Fate, but I don't know if they actually did get that treatment. (Warlord #58):

I "graduated" from physical therapy today after months of attending it. Whoohoo!
Also, I just got my blood test results back, and I'm no longer anemic (for the first time in my adult life.) Whoohooooo!
Actually, let's just do a gratitude dump, because there's a lot:
The surgery scar has faded a lot, and it hasn't even been a year (I ♥ you, cocoa butter!) My daily exercise routine I started on the 1st has resulted in visible muscle definition starting to show on my arms. I got an email back from the apartment I want to move to, and the income level they want is almost exactly the income level I have. I finally got around to trimming my hair this morning, and it looks nice now instead of overgrown. I found one of my favorite shirts in two other colors on clearance for $3 each, so now I have more comfy layering options. I went over the calories in my diet, and I'm eating the right amount (not over, which is what I expected.) I finally got to watch Warlords of Atlantis after years of it not being available streaming anywhere. The weather is sunny and mild, and I'm enjoying being barefoot and in short sleeves. I acquired three new house plants—one is a coffee plant, one has purple velvet fuzz on green leaves, and one has glittery red leaves that look like butterflies' wings. I got to go see Dune 2 in the movie theater. I planted seeds that will sprout soon. My indie author income is finally on the rise again after a tight winter season. I can now build my author mailing list thousands strong without having to pay monthly to do so. I have a plan in place so I can cover my taxes without extra fees. My latest (very smutty) published work that I wasn't confident in has gotten some positive ratings by readers, and is my second bestselling book this month. I finished the story for my favorite video game of recent years, Days Gone, after playing for ages without trying to finish it (and the ending was great!) I got to finally read the gorgeous artbook for said game since spoilers weren't a concern anymore. I confirmed with my doctor and blood tests that my hypoglycemia is not diabetes-related (and is a literal medical need for snacks.) I officially handed off the reins of the Discord server I started 4 years ago, and left it in the hands of some awesome people. I'm finally getting some good nights of sleep after having trouble with insomnia for awhile. I finally learned how to moisturize my face and my skin has been doing great ever since. I get to write a smutty gay novella about the Jersey Devil and get paid for it.
