I love my Grey Warden playthrough for Dragon Age: The Veilguard. All the dialogue options for the Grey Wardens are neat. How in Weisshaupt Davrin talks about killing Razikale, making the sacrifice and Grey Warden Rook pipes up they're a warden too. Davrin says that they're the leader of this bunch, so it's up to him to make the sacrifice. In Profane Weisshaupt, when you reach the prisons, Davrin mentions how a lot of Grey Wardens would go down there to sleep off their hangovers and Grey Warden Rook chuckles and says that they spent several nights there doing just that.

My favourite one so far is during the final quest for the Hossberg Wetlands. You're approaching the Blight Eruption at the Grey Warden redoubt where the Cauldron is. And it turns out that what only Antoine was hearing before, now that they're close to it, both Grey Warden Rook and Davrin hear it too. Thal: The blight eruption is in my head. Davrin: I know. We'll destroy it together. It's gonna be alright That was everything to me. Oh, and when you kill a mob, Davrin goes: That's how Wardens get it done. If your Rook is from another faction, its: Not bad, for a Veil Jumper/Crow/etc.

And as Warden you get to talk to Flynn about the Joining. That was really nice too. And you meet Greta, who Joined around the same time as you. Also, I feel the First Warden is a bigger ass to Warden Rook.

Enjoying Veilguard so far but with new lore and just being in Thedas again, it makes me want to finish my DA: I post-game story (before Trespasser).

It involved the Hero of Ferelden, Nyrra Tabris (Elf Warrior) and the Inquisitor, Thalia Lavellan (Elf Mage) creating a new home for the Elves in Arlathan, with Tabris leading the project and Solas pulling strings behind the scenes.

I don't know if the world would want to read it, I'm 2/12 chapters in, and I think I want to add Sianno Mercar, my Shadow Dragon Elf Rouge into the last chapter.

My first Inquisitor, my first Rook!

Thalia “Ragequit” Lavellan.

Warrior, proudly dalish, no-nonsense hardass. Softened her heart and expanded her horizon to let Solas in, only to eventually reject him for regarding her culture with disdain and disrespect. Attempted to romance Cassandra instead… well, it was my first playthrough.

Verity “Rook” Thorne.

Thembo grey warden mage, around 20 years old, in love with Taash, often way too snarky and impulsive for their own good, which I tried to gradually change towards them mostly just acting from a place of love towards the end of the game. They love Varric like the good dad he is, but it is the other Veilguard characters that help them grow a little and start looking past the limits of a life pre-determined by the seemingly inevitable trajectory of a grey warden.

Far Roofs

Playtesters haven't really dug that deep into the first complete draft of Nobilis yet. It's ... a large book, and most of the newer stuff isn't actually needed in playtest games. So I've mostly been waiting there and letting the project sit a bit.

In the meantime, I've been laying out the Far Roofs, which has been basically done for a few years. Also holy heck is it cool.

I just kind of forgot about it because I got distracted by Nobilis and then neck issues meant Nobilis took an extra year it really shouldn't have needed to finish (plus a lot of time that it did need) and everything has been terrible but geez

It's a diced game with my standard 5d6 system and a river, an order-of-magnitude upgrade to the CMWGE/Glitch quest system (a bit too experimental and casual to flow forward into Nobilis, probably, but still), and I should be fitting the loose equivalent of 16 CMWGE Arcs/Glitch traits/Nobilis traits, a setting book, and a Glass-Maker's Dragon length campaign into a ~230 page book.

(It may be obvious that small books are not always my goal, or at least do not always win the scrimmage of goals, but it's my priority here. It bugged me that I could ultimately only give digital, ephemeral goods to the people who needed the hardship tier on the Glitch crowdfund.)

Oh! It also has talking rats. Lots of my games do these days tbh at least in the background somewhere but this one heavily features them. You do not play them (usually at least) but you do usually have one for each PC archetype you don't take.

(My last playtest had the grandmother rat Sascha De Rosa, the bard DIY “Dee” Smirnov, the warden Thalia Opera Minerva Alphabet Primorsky III, the reckless prinxe Utena Borgias, and a bunch of miscellaneous shieldbearer Kimuras as its mischief.)

Stroud decides that the wardens are in good hands and decides to be the one to go to Weisshaupt to see what the hell is going on with the other Wardens.

And Hawke decides to stay.

(It had already been decided when they had hauled Nico, delirious and only half conscious, out of the fade and held him until Will shoved his way through wardens and inquisition alike to get to them. It had been decided when Thalia had torn through a line of demons in the Western Approach when Hawke had found themself surrounded, the taste of ozone on the back of their tongue so painfully familiar they almost forgot hot to breathe. It had been decided when Annabeth, drenched from the ever falling rain in Crestwood and splattered with the blood from whatever fights had occurred getting to their meeting place, ordered Hawke and Stroud to stay the night before heading west to look for the wardens. It had been decided when they met Percy sitting on the battlements with his feet dangling over the edge and heard him laugh and joke through bone deep exhaustion.)

Fenris was already making his way to Skyhold, having had the feeling that Hawke was up to… something that required backup. The kids are a surprise in more ways than one, but looking at them it was really to be expected that Hawke grew attached so quickly.

Some fun facts about each of them:

Thalia has a huge tortie cat named Lady Meowmers. When she had to leave Minrathous to travel with Varric, Lady Meowmers went into the collective care of the Shadow Dragons. Thalia brings her back to the Lighthouse at the first opportunity. Also, Thalia's hair is dyed; she dyed it purple with magic. This was when she was eighteen and left home for the first time; the spell never wore off, and at this point she doesn't clearly remember her original hair color.

Maia's parents left her their Dalish clan shortly before she was born. She grew up in a city in the Free Marches until she was ten, when her parents' original clan settled in a forest just beyond the city's borders, and Maia — exploring the forest as she often did — met her grandmother. Maia agreed to stay with her grandparents and live as a Dalish; her parents never found out what happened to her.

Emilia was sold to the Crows at age three. Her family was impoverished to the point of starving, and in return for coin and the promise that Emilia would have food in her belly, her parents took the deal and sold her. Despite the sobering way she got there (and the traumas of Crow training, particularly before her transfer to House de Riva), she genuinely enjoys her work and considers herself a killer for hire and for fun.

Lydia has natural heterochromia (one blue eye, one purple one) and never left the Grand Necropolis at all before she had to leave on her journey with Varric. She sees Vorgoth as both a best friend and parental figure, and secretly wishes that she, too, could become an abomination, if only there was a spirit that wanted to possess her.

Violet looked up to the Grey Wardens since childhood, when a pair of Wardens saved her and her siblings from darkspawn. She sought them out to join them when she was 22, after suffering ten months in an arranged marriage to a fellow noble. (Her husband was not cruel, but being a Lady of the House was like torture to Violet, who felt it was a waste of her life.) Apple tarts are her favorite food, and her ritewine bottle reads: "A thorn by any other name will make you bleed the same."
