WarCraft II Tides of Darkness is a fantasy real-time strategy game developed and published by Blizzard and is the sequel to 1994s WarCraft: Orcs & Humans. WarCraft II Tides of Darkness released first for DOS in 1995 with a Mac release the following year. 

Console releases of Warcraft II are unrelated to Blizzard, with the company selling the rights to develop, publish and distribute the console versions of the game to EA, with the EA version being titled WarCraft II The Dark Saga, this released on the PlayStation and Sega Saturn in 1997.

Currently feeling sad because I tried to play Warcraft II tonight, and I apparently cannot start a new campaign. I can load a previous save, but I left off last fall having beaten everything but the Human campaign for Beyond the Dark Portal, and I don't have any saves for that. I finally felt ready to give it a try today, but the screen just goes black after I get past the opening cinematic. So, sad.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the CD, and this was not a problem a few months ago, so I'm puzzled.

i feel like you could say something about the parallels between dagran ii and anduin, especially in how their parents have impacted them

like anduin is anduin. lost his mom young, basically lost his dad multiple times. he's always been The HeirTM. he's supposed to toughen up. varian is a warrior king. he is supposed to fight. he runs off to find knowledge and peace during MOP and feels guilty about it later. he wasn't really allowed to explore his interests, not as much as he might want to.

and then you see dagran ii. son of a warrior king. dad dead before he was born, its just been him and his mom. moira has been off waging political war for his birthright for forever. dagran is supposed to become king of the dark iron clan, maybe even all of ironforge. he's The HeirTM, the child of a strongwilled personality who he is supposed to follow.

but all of moira's dialogue in TWW is positive about dagran. she never speaks ill of his interests, or of his potential. the worst she says is that he gets too focused on things, and that's fair when dagran is wandering into trouble for knowledge. he's the opposite of dagran i. he's not the warrior prince people were expecting. and moira is chill with that. granted, this may be impacted by how moira's become more of a diplomat in recent years but even then dagran has different interests than moira. but she isn't hard on him.

and idk. i've seen some people talk about how dagran ii is very anduin before the horrors, and i feel like it is because he was allowed to be. he doesn't seem to have the inner turmoil about identity that anduin has because he was supported by moira.

i have started to realize that i am either somehow telekineticaly linked to the writing staff at blizzard or the writing staff at blizzard follows very predictable conventions so here are some things i think are going to happen in the worldsoul saga:

- anduin is going to get better and have something majorly set him back. given his new connection to faerin and the emphasis on her being very at peace with herself and her disabilities (blind in one eye and an amputee) i think he will also become an amputee.

- dagran has had a taste of the real world and he’s going to be tested even further by having something majorly traumatic happen to him. he’s starting off the same way anduin did, idealistic and bookish and believed to be “soft” as an heir to a throne.

- alleria’s likely going to be either unable to resist xal’atath at some point or she’s going to go full john wick over arator dying. i genuinely don’t see him surviving for long after reading the short story with him and alleria and turalyon

- they’re going to find a way to include the horde given player feedback on what an alliance-centric story this is but it’s going to be at the very last minute and be otherwise ineffectual

things i have a sneaking suspicion are going to happen but i don’t want to at all because they’re stupid choices:

- faerin goes from being her own character to just being anduin’s wife and nothing else

- moira is going to die and be the traumatic event for dagran

things that i want to have happen because they would be rad:

- arator dies and it causes turalyon for the first time in ten thousand plus years to falter in his commitment to the light. suddenly he goes from wishing alleria would have died instead of giving into the darkness to wondering if maybe arator died because the light wasn’t enough to protect him, and what the darkness had to offer

- taelia comes back into the story and meets faerin. they quickly hit it off and fall in love and spend the rest of the xpac lezzing out together and kicking ass
