i go by the name of arran in the world wide web, she/her, based in the uk and in my 30s era. i have been writing on and off for almost 20 years now on different platforms, but this is really the first time i venture into the fanfic realm in tumblr, so please be nice! >: probably you can tell, but my first language is not english but spanish, so if you spot any spelling mistakes, i apologise in advance lol

the only thing i still remember is that wen qing does a surgery to bring back wei wuxian's core, and the new core is from a wen prisoner who is set to be executed. the prisoner turns out to be wen yuan's bio dad, and he's willing.

i think there's another core surgery but as punishment? i may be mixing up fics since it's been a long time.

A) I think this one might have appeared in your blog and that's how I learned about it the first time. Modern AU Wangxian where they're retired/considering retiring figure skaters, and the fic is a series of them trying to have sex but something going wrong. At the end LWJ breaks/hurts his ankle really badly on the way to a cabin to have sex in Olympics gear, and then they get married.

B) WWX comes back in a random cultivator's body while LWJ is recovering from the discipline whip, and he sneaks into the Cloud Recesses to learn about A-Yuan. I think the cultivator gave his body up to WWX to punish him, and the curse mark on his arm becomes activated when he's happy, and it activates so badly it nearly cuts his arm off.

So Lan Wangji and Lan Xichen reached immortality and now they are living in present time where everyone has reincarnated. Lan Wangji has custody of Lan Sizhui and I think Lan Jingyi as well but not sure about the latter part. Both of them attend high school where Wei Wuxian is a teacher (I think he just transferred to the school but am not sure). Jin Ling also attends school with them. Jiang Cheng takes care of him and he is a policeman. He does not talk to Wei Wuxian as he blames him for their sister death/bad medical state. I don't remember exactly which one it was. I also remember that Nie Mingjue is Jiang Cheng boss, Nie Huisang and Jing Guangyao are in the actor/entertainment business and Wen Ruohan is a villain in there @kyjrd

I'm looking for match-making fic where Jin Zixuan (tired of wwx constantly interrupting family time with his wife and newly born son) decides the best way to get him out of the way is to matchmake him with someone. I think he tries Nie Mingjue mainly, because they have similar interests, etc.

Jiang Cheng also gets roped in, but he thinks Jin Zixuan is nuts the whole time. NMJ thinks Wei wuxian is definitely flirting with him at some point because his muscles get complimented? Lan Xichen has to reassure him that "no, he is just like that".

It's a comedy of errors mainly, because LWJ and WWX definitely have something going on between them, and it ends with them running off with horses to elope into the sunset or smth. Jiang Yanli doesn't know her husband's matchmaking scheme, but she does know about wwx and lwj and helps them elope at the end.

Pretty sure it was a short fic, ignores canon and occurs in a what-if scenario where the whole burial mounds situation didn't happen.

Scottish novelist and poet Naomi Mitchison was born in Edinburgh on November 1st in 1897.

Best known as a novelist and social commentator, but Naomi Mitchison also wrote and published poetry, much of which is rooted in her Scottish background.

Born to Louisa Kathleen Trotter and John Scott Haldane, a distinguished scientist based in Oxford, where Naomi Haldane grew up. The Scottish connection remained important throughout her childhood, and she spent many summers at Cloan in Perthshire, the Haldanes’ family home. Although her formal education was limited, she was steeped in an environment of scientific and creative enquiry which influenced her entire life.

Naomi married Dick Mitchison while he was on a short break from the Battlefields of Flanders in 1916, he was later injured in the war and it had a profound effect on the rest of his life and hers.

Both of them passionately wanted the post-war world to be a different and better place and were determined to do something about it, with explosive energy, Mitchison managed to write prolifically and variously; to work in the pioneer days at the North Kensington family planning clinic and for many other good causes. Her husband went into politics and she supported him and his socialist values wholeheartedly. He eventually went to the Lords and Naomi hated being called Lady Mitchison. The Mitchison house at Hammersmith was famous for its parties in happy or anxious times. The guest lists covered a wide spectrum from all walks of life, politicians, writers, lords, unknown proteges, refugees and strange lost foreigners from all over the world.

This generous style of hospitality continued at their Scottish home at Carradale in Argyll. The large house gathered in all kinds of waifs and strays among the famous and unreproached scroungers; and then the Mitchison grandchildren and great-grandchildren joined the mix. Naomi's wartime diary, Among You Taking Notes... , is a vivid description of that period, and of her own pivotal role in it.

She would go on to become a local councillor and member of the Highland Panel, which began the process of Highland regeneration, but in both roles she was frustrated by bureaucracy and apathy, you can imagine The Highlands in the 60's!

Mitchison was able to write anywhere, which helped because - as a compulsive traveller - she could get on with her writing on planes or in trains. She went to the US in the 1930s, because she was worried about tenant farmers rights; to Vienna in 1934 when the Nazi-era storm clouds gathered, and she smuggled letters from endangered people to Switzerland in her knickers. In 1952, she went to Moscow as a member of the Authors' World Peace Appeal. She went regularly to Africa, especially to Botswana, where she was made a sort of tribal mother to the Bakgatla people and helped them practically. Wherever she was in the world, she seemed to have an instinctive understanding of the country and people around her, a remarkable woman.

In later years, she was sometimes anxious and depressed - not for herself, but for the future. She often said that two wars in a lifetime were too many. She was totally opposed to nuclear weaponry and was fearful that science would destroy, rather than enrich, mankind.

In old age, she watched many of her generation die: but with great generosity of spirit she visited and comforted many of them to the end.

Naomi Mitchison spent the last years of her life at Carradale, where she died in January 1999 aged 101.

Ewan McGregor To Auction Arran Whisky For Charity

The 26-year-old Arran single malt was distilled in 1998

Scottish actor Ewan McGregor is auctioning 150 bottles from his private cask of 26-year-old single malt whisky from Lochranza Distillery for charity.

McGregor has partnered with the distillery to bottle and auction 150 exclusive bottles from his 1998 vintage single cask, which the distillery gifted to him. All proceeds will go to Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS), a charity that supports children with life-limiting conditions and their families.

Ewan has been involved with CHAS and visited their hospices many times over the years, so He knows the unwavering care that both [hospices] Rachel House and Robin House provide children and their families during their hardest moments. “ He hopes this auction can raise a significant amount to ensure that these wonderful places can continue providing the service they do.”

The auction offers whisky enthusiasts and fans of Ewan a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own a piece of whisky history and contribute to a worthy cause. Whisky Auctioneer will auction the limited edition bottles from 27 September to 7 October. The auction is open to bidders globally, and the first 24 bottles have been personally signed by Ewan McGregor.

The rare 26-year-old Arran single malt was matured in an ex-Sherry hogshead cask and is offered at 46% ABV. The expression is one of the oldest whiskies ever produced by the Lochranza Distillery, each bottle features a unique, specially designed label, making each bottle hugely desirable in its own right.

Stewart Bowman, distillery manager of Isle of Arran Distillers, stated: “In 1998, Ewan McGregor joined us at Lochranza Distillery to toast the first cask of Arran single malt, which was the first legal cask to be laid down on Arran for over 150 years. We presented him with his ex-Sherry hogshead that day, and it has matured in our warehouse.

Bowman added: “Like Ewan, we remain close to our roots and are passionate about giving back to the community. We have looked after Ewan’s cask for the last 26 years, and we are delighted to work with him, Whisky Auctioneer, and Leith to raise money for CHAS.”

Creative agency The Leith has partnered with Ewan and his brother Colin McGregor to bring Ewan’s Cut to life, pro-bono. The bottle design and name have been inspired by McGregor’s career, featuring references to his roles in films including Trainspotting and Star Wars, as well as his Long Way Round television series.

Each of the 150 bottle labels is said to read like a mini film script, with no two labels alike. The ‘Ewan’s Cut’ labels were created and written by Rob Petrie (head of design at Leith) and Colin Montgomery (senior copywriter) with support from Beth Lauder (senior account manager).

“Oh, come on, don’t be like that. There’ll be other sleepovers, just you and me this time. Besides, aren’t you a little excited that your boyfriend is here?” she adds, nudging my arm, and I can see that her eyes are sparkling.

Sometimes, it really seems like Simone is happier about my relationship than I am.

I glance at the shape of Niall on the other side of the room and a smile grows on my face. “Right, that is nice, though I think I would have preferred it if it was just him and I too. I think I prefer being alone with a person rather than being with a group of people.”

How very confident of her to assume I would miss her. (Realistically, if she did not show up at the shop after what she told me at the restaurant the other night, I would. But still.)

“Then, Lady Adelaide of Lys. You have not met her either. She was destined to marry Auguste, had he taken a wife. Her father was a close friend of my own father, who, to my greatest pleasure, has always loathed my uncle. He gave his daughter the best education, with tutors from all around the continent, and kept her away from court as much as he could. She knows everything about the rest of the world, but nothing about Arles; the perfect opposite of most people who aspire for a seat in the council, which is why I believe she is perfect for it. I know Arles. I lived in Arles my whole life, I have seen all the horrors and the marvels of court. My council need not be courtiers. Which is why the last person I have in mind is the man in my country who has the most distaste for court: Lord Berenger of Varenne, who you have met. Though truly, I’m not so sure about him,” Laurent finished, his eyebrows creasing.

Ah, a fellow Martin rotator 😌

I'm 99% sure I've posted about this before but I'm too lazy to find it so I'll summarise my thoughts as briefly as I can. Also, a lot of these ideas surface in my fic, through the dark, but most just exist in my brain (though I do plan to write a few oneshots on this).

So, here's my version of Martin's backstory:

Martin was born in a small fishing village near Arran in 1797 as the youngest of three children. His father was a fisherman and spent most of his time out on the sea. He had a difficult birth that left his mother sickly and unable to do much else to earn money other than mending nets and making crab traps etc.

During the Insurrection, his father served in the Morleyan navy but was injured and returned home before the war was lost. His father was once a quiet but stern man, and the war turned him short-tempered and prone to fits of rage. He's left unable to walk unaided and struggles to find work to support his family in a country that doesn't want him.

In those terrible years following the war, famine strikes Morley and Martin's mother doesn't survive it. Martin and his two older siblings, Aoife and Niall, take up small jobs to keep them afloat, neglecting their education.

Martin's father is a wrecked and foul man after the loss of his wife and he spirals into drinking himself into oblivion, throwing blame at the easiest target: young Martin. He berates his youngest son for weakening his wife, for draining what little coin they have to afford medicine for Martin's fickle health and frequent seizures. His father believes him to be a curse on their family.

Morley, post-insurrection, simmers with brewing tension as the Empire stakes their claim. Taxes rise, new restrictions limit the movement and gathering of the working class, and naturally, pockets of resistance begin forming. Martin's father becomes the centre of one such resistance. Angry men who's livelihoods have been ruined by the war gather and plan to strike back at the Imperial soldiers occupying their towns and cities.

Martin is only thirteen when the Imperial soldiers raid their small home, bursting through the door with men shouting and guns pointed. Aoife puts herself between him and a soldier, and as he wriggles through a window and runs, he hears the gunshot.

He doesn't turn back.

Alone, Martin travels to the nearby city of Alba where he sleeps huddled up in alleys and doorways, scrounging and stealing for food. He hears of the Imperial Army recruiting boys from the street, providing the starving and desperate with food and shelter in return for their loyalty, and at age fourteen, he enlists.

He learns a lot from his time in the military. He learns how to fire a gun, how to plan attacks, how to lure out the nationalists hiding in small towns and camps spread out over the southern Morley coast. He's part of a force meant to pick out the rebels and secure the Empire's rule over Morley, betraying his father's beliefs, and turning against his own countrymen. He doesn't believe in what he does, but he finds he doesn't care as long as he is fed and housed and trained.

Martin is a survivor. He's loyal to no one.

At twenty-one, he's offered a large sum of coin to turncoat and kill a commanding officer of the Imperial army by stopping his carriage on a quiet road. He does it, for no other reason than the opportunities that amount of money will afford him. There's no progression for someone of such low social standing as him.

Unfortunately, the carriage carried more than just the officer. He had been travelling with his young family. Martin can't bring himself to hurt his young son and leaves him alive, instead fleeing.

With a price on his head, Martin keeps moving, never staying in one place for long. He makes his money robbing those travelling on the roads, being careful to only take from those who can afford it.

He crosses paths with Daud at this stage of his life and the two engage in a mutually beneficial relationship, taking jobs and splitting the prize. When Daud moves on, Martin meets a gang of smugglers led by a woman named Resa, and knowing how valuable a good partnership can be, he joins them.

He travels with the gang for years, slipping into an on and off relationship with Resa. Their focus begins to drift from smuggling contraband and illegal goods to heretical items and slowly, Resa becomes obsessed. She becomes fixated on acquiring an artefact she believes can bind the Outsider, but requires a sacrifice to do so. She turns on Martin, wounding him, but he gets away and flees.

Feeling that the only safe place he can go to protect himself against Resa's wrath, Martin turns to the Abbey. He slips into their ranks with the intention of it being temporary, but eventually warms to it. He finds sense in the strictures, comfort in the regulated structure of life as an Overseer, and most importantly, recognises a route to power.

Sorry this was so long! I swear I tried to make this brief 😅 I breezed over all the detail, so there's a lot more nuance to these situations than I can go into here, but that's essentially it!

What do you think was James‘ opinion of his mother Mary Queen of Scots?

Oh this is a question that I CAN ramble about at length. Even though the short answer is "we don't know because James was very cagey about it", I CAN talk about all the different inputs that might lead James to ambivalent and shifting feelings.

Get ready for 2000+ words about this, tw 17th century misogyny, SA/forced marriage, Esmé Stewart, it's real rancid

1. James's tutors attempted to brainwash him and turn him against Mary

For his first twelve years, James was locked up in Stirling Castle, firmly under the control of the Protestant Confederate Lords who were engaged in a bloody civil war against Mary QOS. (Two out of three of infant James's assassinated regents were killed by the pro-Mary faction.) Meanwhile, James was being raised austerely by strict Presbyterian tutors such as George Buchanan, who were not only trying to turn him into a sober Protestant defender of the faith and a contractual monarch who would be obedient to the Kirk, but were also filling his brain constantly with the image of Mary as a Catholic whore, an adulteress with Bothwell, the murderer of James's father Darnley, and a general example of why women should not be given authority over men.

In a time of profound patriarchy, the murder of one's father is unforgivable. From what I have read, I get the impression that James believed she was involved through most of his young life. However, we're going to come back to that later.

2. Mary "abandoned" James.

It's abundantly evident from James's behavior and own writings about his experiences and feelings that James felt himself utterly alone in his childhood. The last time he saw his mother was at the age of 15 months, April 1567, just before Mary married Bothwell (and it is debated to this day if Mary was forced or if she was a co-conspirator; she herself claimed that she consented). Then followed the civil war, Mary's flight to England, and imprisonment.

It's extremely natural and normal for a child to feel abandonment if his parents are absent. But if she murdered Darnley (not proven), chose to leave you to remarry (not proven), and took up arms against YOU, the king (it was the other way around), I mean, that's some abandonment. It would be very easy for a young James in Stirling to blame all his loneliness, and his suffering at Buchanan's hands, on Mary.

3. For the entirety of their lives, James was in a delicate political situation between Mary and Elizabeth.

James's failure to do anything major to rescue Mary from Elizabeth 1568-1587, or to seriously stop her execution, or to seek revenge for the execution afterwards, can be read in a simplified manner to be aligning with Elizabeth over Mary in order to secure his succession to the English throne. And it was that, but it's not that simple.

Mary was constantly scheming to escape from imprisonment and return to Scotland and recover her throne (or to take the English throne!) If James exerted himself to rescue her, he would be introducing a rival for his own position! Furthermore, Mary was Catholic and while James did not become the good Presbyterian that was hoped, he had a life-long conception of himself as a defender of Protestantism, and a herald of a true, moderate way between disparate Protestant factions. (King James Version and all that.)

However... it is absolutely not the case that James happily aligned with Elizabeth. James generally pursued a policy of appeasement to Elizabeth, especially after 1586, in exchange for peace, financial support, and, hopefully, the English throne. However, James resented having to beg from Elizabeth. And Elizabeth had long been involved in many schemes against James, such as the Ruthven Raid, the armed march against James to oust Arran, etc. James pragmatically decides to stay on good terms with his godmother, but this is under duress as the relatively impoverished king of a smaller nation that, you know, doesn't want to go to war with England.

Don't forget James's phenomenally stupid move of backing the Essex Rebellion. He even quietly endorsed an assassination plot against Elizabeth. James was not happily and comfortably on her side.

4. Could the religious issue ever be overcome?

So James was an ardent Protestant, Mary an ardent Catholic. In the 16th century this is a huge barrier and life-or-death issue that people regularly shed massive amounts of blood over. So this might create an irreconcilable breach between James and Mary. However...

James was, actually, relatively pro-tolerance. For some reason I'm incompetent today and can't find the exact quote for the life of me, but James once said that, while he would defend the Protestant faith and it was the king's duty to order the Church, that the sword (coercion) should never figure into matters of private conscience.

Esmé Stewart, Duke of Lennox, arrived in Scotland a Catholic, after all. And, with Esmé's arrival and that breath of continental fresh air, James rebelled against pretty much all Buchanan's teachings, developing his philosophy of absolutism and divine right, etc. As a consequence of Esmé's ascent as Lennox, the board was set for the 1580s to be dominated by a struggle between anti-Lennox factions (Protestant, pro-English, anti-French and Catholic) and... pro-James factions (heavily populated by Catholic Scottish lords).

Esmé's supremacy was broken by the Ruthven Raid, the kidnapping of teenage James by Protestant lords backed by Elizabeth. (Mary, imprisoned in England, was horrified by this turn of events and wrote frantic letters worrying about James's safety.) This was a terrifying, traumatic, and humiliating experience for James, and he bore a serious grudge over it. He escaped with the help of key, largely Catholic allies, and ruled as he pleased surrounded by these allies from 1583-1586. I think that this experience was really formative for James; ever since, he was highly willing to work with Catholics and could have great personal affection for individual Catholics. This was a great sin in England and led to the long association of the Stuarts with Catholicism (long before they became actual Catholics) -- and contributed to early historians' smearing of James.

We think of James as this persecutor of Catholics because of the Gunpowder Plot, but James really tried to take a middle way of toleration for Catholics until the overwhelming anti-Catholic sentiment in England (fueled by, you know, constant extremist Catholic assassination attempts) forced him to take a harder line stance.

5. The association.

During 1580s, Lennox's dominance, the Ruthven Raid, and the early part of James's freedom after the Raid, Mary and her supporters were pushing the idea of an association. Co-rule of Scotland between James and Mary, forgiveness for the civil war, and mother-son reconciliation. Their advisors, and James and Mary themselves, wrote back and forth about this extensively -- with sweet words and promises to each other, and doubt and schemes within their own factions.

Would James have ever consented to the association? I don't think it likely. Really, throw away the rich English crown, potentially go to war with England, invite France or Spain to march its armies across the island and potentially end up a client state? This doesn't seem in-character for peace-loving, but also politically savvy, resource-hungry, and also wildly misogynist James. James had this self-image as a divinely appointed king and also a King Arthur, destined to unite Britannia. Would he throw that all away for... what, lowering his own prestige and power?

And yet.

James had already thrown away much of the Presbyterian programming of his childhood. Could he go a step further?

What if... Esmé Stewart (who was in correspondence with Mary) did back the association and lived? What if James's period of independence surrounded by his Catholic lords had continued, or when Arran was ousted, he did not decide to forgive (or "forgive") the Raiders and accede to Elizabeth's demands?

6. Longing for family.

I've rambled before about how James spent his whole life searching for love, especially familial love. Esmé Stewart was the first taste of such love, and if Esmé Stewart was pro-Mary... I think it's possible that Esmé could have softened James to Mary.

Historians characterize James and Mary's treatment of each other as cold and political. But remember, these are monarchs. They were previously at war with each other (at least in name). Their positions are both tenuous; James is constantly riding waves of rebellion as he tries to tame the Scottish court, and Mary is in really tight circumstances in her imprisonment. They haven't seen each other since James was 1 year old, so any actual affection between them is a mere wisp of a memory, and probably not even a memory for James.

But, while James was carefully and coldly maneuvering... could he have felt longing? Regret? Yes, I think so. He forever lamented his orphan-like status, the burden of being a cradle king. He was desperate for family, even if he really sucked at forming it sometimes. Even though James had a very poor opinion of women in general, he did care about Anna of Denmark, and his later-life fondness for Mary and Katherine Villiers shows that he did have some longing for female love in his life.

I think it's totally in-character for James to have wished for things to be different at the same time he was holding Mary at arm's length.

7. Why didn't James care more about Mary's execution?

James never made any attempt to rescue his mother. And loads of historians have analyzed James's response to Mary's trial and execution. While James protested and sent an angry letter to Elizabeth, he basically did not stand in the way.

The consensus, as I understand it, is that James's objections to Mary's execution probably had more to do with his discomfort (shared by Elizabeth!) with a foreign monarch executing an anointed queen. He's a divine-right king, after all.

But also, what could James do? Like I said in #5, go to war? Invite Spain to invade Great Britain? It's a terrible political decision. And James was a political creature; his survival to this point depended on it. I don't think James really could do anything.

8. The casket letters.

So remember how James was raised to believe that Mary was responsible for Darnley's death? The casket letters, letters allegedly showing Mary and Bothwell's scheme to murder Darnley, featured heavily in a show trial in England which Elizabeth and her councilors intended to damage Mary's reputation (without conclusively proving she murdered Darnley). Mary staunchly maintained they were forgeries.

In 1584, right in the middle of that period of James's freedom surrounded by Catholic allies, James destroyed the originals, so we now have nothing to analyze to decide forgery or not-forgery.

But why did James destroy them?

Did he think they were authentic and proved Mary's guilt -- and he destroyed them to protect his mother's reputation and honor? Was this a protective or reconciliatory move of son towards mother in this period when talk of the association was flying around?

Did he think they were forgeries, and he destroyed them to prevent Mary from being exonerated, to make sure that a cloud of ambiguous guilt always hung over Mary, to weaken her position and prevent her from returning to threaten his throne?

By the age of 18, what did James think about Mary's guilt?

It's a great mystery. We don't know.

9. Mary's monument.

After James became King of England, in 1611 he had Mary reburied in Westminster Abbey, right opposite Elizabeth, with a monument of the same style and equal splendor.

Why did he do this? We also don't know. Again, a lot of historians think this has more to do with James's respect for monarchy, not his mother, or his desire to further legitimize his line (situating Mary, and therefore himself, as a Tudor heir -- that's why James is buried in the Henry VII vault of all places).

But, it's still a striking symbolic action. It's a lot like the weird co-burial of Elizabeth and Mary I, where after all this strife, rivalry, and politicking, these rulers are enshrined together. What was James saying with this action? Was he trying to reconcile his mother and godmother? Family unity and amity in death? Who knows?

10. tl;dr nobody knows

So you see, this is another fascinating ambiguity about James. You can imagine him as this totally cold, resentful, purely political creature who either didn't care or totally hated Mary (a la the garbage Gunpowder, Treason & Plot (2004)). You can imagine him as a sad and hurt child who carries the wound of maternal abandonment his entire life. And I can even imagine a what-if where European history went massively differently if Esmé Stewart had lived and decided to back Mary.

It's a really fascinating case study on how love, kinship, and affiliation are really pressured and tainted by power. James was doomed never to have a normal relationship with his mother. The cradle crown is a curse that would wreck all of his relationships from infancy to death.

Arran yawned and stretched as he awoke in his and Caleb’s quarters/workspace. Of course, he didn’t actually stretch given that he didn’t have the muscle mass to manage much. He just lifted his fat laden arms and shifted slightly. Caleb was still asleep, they were curled up together - or at least they were both sat in their fat with their bodies pressed against each other. Arran reached out and wrapped a flabby fist around the bars fixed to the walls that helped them both move around. Caleb and Arran built them themselves, what the bars did was manipulate the gravity field around whoever touched it and as a result they could simply float. This morning however it didn’t work quite how it was supposed to.

Instead of moving forward, Arran’s adipose rippling and shifting gently like waves in the sea as he did, he couldn’t move very far at all. It was as if his body began to float, and there was something keeping him held back - like a ship that forgot to lift the anchor. He reached his right hand round to his side to see if anything had been interfering with the mechanism - maybe Caleb fell asleep working on something that was causing issues. He expected to feel a gentle shock against his fat, something cold and metallic. Instead however his hand met more fat, but it wasn’t right. That wasn’t supposed to be there.

Most assumed that given how huge Arran and Caleb were they didn’t keep track of how much they weighed. In actual fact they were meticulous about it - Arran was 3605lbs and Caleb was 3610.7lbs. There waist lines were 357 inches and 362 inches. They needed to know in order to work, they needed to know to adapt their equipment as they grew. They had an intimate, almost photographic, knowledge of each others bodies, of each others fat rolls, and this wasn’t normal. This chunk of adipose was connected to one that wasn’t there the night before. It also didn’t feel like Arran’s skin. His was a little dry and sensitive, in fact it seemed as if his own mass of blubber actually felt more like Caleb’s. It was definitely his, there was no gap and no way to pull away from it, it was a new mass of fat that felt like Caleb’s hairier, oilier skin. Arran attempted to shift with his anti-gravity bars, with great difficulty that caused his chest to heave, his throat gasping, and his skin blushing a deep red. Eventually he did, and what he saw didn’t explain anything - well, he supposed it did but he didn’t have any idea what it actually meant.

From what he could tell, his fat was joined to Caleb’s fat. It wasn’t as if they’d even surgically attached together, there wasn’t a substance between them, there skin was fused together as if it had always been that way. The flesh was smooth and there wasn’t a crease or fold where there bodies met. Arran investigated it with his fingers as his cybernetic eyes whirred in his skull biologically examining the flab. The joining seemed to go all the way to the floor. From just below their waist all the way to their buttocks they were now joined together. From what he could tell, they were absorbing each other. They weren’t losing anything, his eyes analysed the organic material in front of him and both bodies still functioned they were just no longer two bodies - more like two independent ones in a single case of fat.

Arran couldn’t fathom what must have happened to cause this, they hadn’t been working on anything new, they couldn’t have picked up a parasite… When Caleb awoke they’d have to begin work immediately. Arran wasn’t worried, in fact he was so calm about their bodies joining that he actually became a little nervous about why he wasn’t concerned. He actually quite liked the idea, the two of them spent every waking moment together, they ached when they were separated and now they would always be one.
