✧ as for heels, her mother was immensely strict with heel height. The heels were only allowed to go up to her ankles as well. Nothing more than that (Riddle very happily breaks this rule when she has her dorm uniform heels designed). Modesty is a rule constantly engraved into Riddle, and showing skin is akin to asking for your swift execution in the Rosehearts’s household. Riddle is accustomed to walking in shorter heels, but it’s the taller heels she had to practice more in. She isn’t too fussy about shoes, but she does like heels. There are so many styles and each is more fascinating than the last.

so here's her happy, happy family :D I wanted to give her two younger sisters bc I think of Himiko as the first born. The first sister (who I'm thinking of naming Mariko) is about 13 in the present timeline and the youngest (Chiyo?) is about 8.

Mariko is kinda supposed to be the perfect daughter (in comparison to Himiko). Her mom was already pregnant w her by the time Himiko got her quirk, which had the parents scared that they'd bring another "thing" like Himiko into the world. But once Mariko got her quirk and showed no signs of abnormality, they were 1. relieved and 2. very ready to have another child now that they knew Himiko was just a "fluke"

Okay so to talk about her parents a little, while they are both for sure terrible, I think the few good experiences she had w them were w her mom when she was very young.

The mom has A Lot of Issues. She had a very perfect picture in her head of what she wanted her family to be like and when she first had Himiko she was very happy and would dress her up and do her hair and stuff, but after she got her quirk, she felt a lot of guilt and shame and would subsequently avoid her daughter like the plague.

She would pay a lot of mind to make sure her children looked cute and neat and overtime it became very obvious that she didn't pay that same attention to Himiko at all anymore 😶

(btw, I think Himiko associates the hairstyle her mom would put on her as a toddler with being loved and free which is why she wears it after becoming a villain)

Both the parents are ALL about presentation. They don't care so much about having a nice family so much as looking like a nice family. (All of this ended up creating a whole idea in Himiko's head about appearances).

Mariko, the middle daughter, was very aware of why her parents dissociated from her sister because they never tried to hide the horror they felt towards their first born. Her parents were kind of hard on her to be a normal lovely daughter (not like Himiko). Mari resented Himiko for that a little but also never spoke to her either (partly bc she had been made to feel afraid of her). I imagine if they ever did have any meaningful interaction it probably ended terribly and soured their already estranged relationship.

Mariko actually holds a lot more resentment for Himiko after she becomes a villain bc this ended in the parents uprooting their lives, changing their names, arguing, and generally being much more awful. So, in her head, Himiko is responsible for everything bad that ever happened to her ( SHE'S 13 SHE'LL LEARN EVENTUALLY).

Now Chiyo, the youngest, was never really fully aware of the situation with Himiko. She just knew her parents and sister were very wary of Himiko for some reason? When she was a baby, Chiyo was probably especially distanced from Himiko as they thought she'd hurt her. Chiyo and Mariko probably have a normal sister relationship (Chiyo's annoying, Mari's nagging, they're good).

Once she got a little older though (and her parents became more busy with Mari) Himiko may have helped Chiyo w schoolwork or other things once in a while. So in Chiyo's head Himiko is her Weird but Kinda Nice Eldest Sister.

After everything went down, nobody ever bothered to explain it to Chiyo and refused to answer her many questions so the poor girl is probably currently very confused why they have new names and why her eldest sister vanished and why she's now a "monster" and a "villain". She was only five when it happened.

I imagine her family isn't on Himiko's mind as much as how they made her feel is. She was an alienated daughter and avoided sister and that's kinda what I use to explain some of her behavior in canon (being very clingy and touchy as well as taking on a little sister dynamic w the league as she never learned to be an older one) But she doesn't really think about how they're doing until probably late in canon.

Honestly, I think if she ever reunited with them it would just end up in a lot of blaming and belittling and self righteousness and also apathy 😓

It was an impulse decision, and like... idk, you kinda miss the point without it.

But one thing about me is I'm a sucker for the symbolism, behind the white dress. So it's a staple of her design, still. Not to mention, something that was always a strong vision was being able to see through the dress, somewhat (ghostly glowy effect)

> The Biggest Thing though. Again, I regret changing last minute LMFAO. Is that front piece. Like an open wound, as if she was slashed and split down the middle. Messy layered ribbons, in pink and flesh tones, to mimic "guts" (ESP strong in her damaged art, where the ribbons would "spill out"/come undone). The ribbons also are keeping the dress tied together -- as if it were mended. Then, there's the frills! The torn fabric! I'm always iffy about How heavily I want to lean into it, but in the back of my mind. It has a vaguely yonic shape. But Mostly, it's meant to also just look torn open LMFAO (and then decorated 🥰)

Everything else is just vague and experimental. Like nods to a variety of chara's designs (the shorts/thigh highs lifted from her base art, the shape of her dress/the tattered ends lifted from Lif, the sleeves kinda lifted from Henriette, and also the hairstyle VERY much lifted from Henriette -- with just the tiiiiiniest hint of Alfonse in there, with a long strand of bangs to the side, opposite of his). Also experimenting with sharp teeth like accents on her outfit... (hard to notice here, but. Thinking about it)

Another sketch I did afterward, again. Just. Fucking around/finding out. Though I do like the shapes here, more.... and it does have a closer resemblance to Henriette, actually (in dress shape). Not sure where that collar connects to, though LMFAO

In the final piece you don't even see much of the armor I designed anyway... some parts I just ended up omitting regardless, due to the complexity/business. There was a concept for it to be like. Winding around her body. But like. Her design is already so complicated. It really wasn't worth it to fuck it up more 😔💔 (and yet......... that's what I did................. I should have just stuck to my guns.............)

- take yourself out! it can seem intimidating but it helps with self confidence, and new experiences + creating new memories while having fun allows you to tap in w/ your inner child

- do AT LEAST one nice thing for yourself everyday! and it doesn’t have to be anything crazy but treat yourself, buy yourself some flowers, go do a lil shopping, maybe eat your fav foods and relax—as long as you’re doing something to improve your mindset and make yourself feel good.

- working out, doing yoga, meditation, taking walks or hikes—literally just finding ways to nurture your body while also nourishing ur mind. doing these things can help us feel more balanced and motivated. also it can be good for us at the end of the day, if you don’t like any of the ideas listed, some more are; painting, dancing, gardening, going for a bike ride, etc.

- you want to become someone who always has xyz? one way to feel more aligned with your desired self is practicing self maintenance. view yourself as only someone who can get better, prettier, healthier, richer, and wiser. meaning that u ALREADY have these things and ur just like improving yourself along the way.

II. & notice how I said ur only someone who can get better? it’s acknowledging that we are already good enough and we can only become more successful, more beautiful, and more powerful at the end of the day.

III. and I feel like this goes hand in hand w self confidence because the better u look (or the better u perceive yourself) the better u feel. and why not make yourself look how you desire so you can inherently feel positive about your appearance? like if something as simple as getting ur nails done or getting your hair done improves ur confidence, go do that shit! it really goes further than you’d think

I rly want to understand the coquette subculture. It seems neat! but I'm so confused. I thought I got it, but the more I look into it, the less coherency I see (at least, in a way I understand). I don't see any consistent color palettes, textiles, topics, ideology, makeup, hairstyles, music, community language or signals. I can see ballgowns & lace w/ glitter & then tshirts and flannels in a dingy laundromat. I've seen people recommend Little Women & American Psycho in the same breath w/ no further elaboration. Celebrities w/ completely separate style influences are often grouped together. I see a lot of idealization of wealthy femininity ("old money", luxury brands, mostly rich celebrities, preppy vibes, heavy amounts of skincare/selfcare/"wellness" routines which cost $$$$) but also lots of depictions life's struggle w mental illness, substance abuse, & others things commonly associated w poverty & lack of class/femininity (Cigarettes, sweatshirts, the aforementioned laundromat, not eating, pills, speculating about Anya Taylor Joy's coping mechanisms??). What is it that unifies y'all? What is it that I'm missing? I feel so lost & I want to figure it out :/

this is a great question and I can totally understand your confusion! the way I see coquette/faunlet is more of an attitude than a specific style/aesthetic but I still call it an aesthetic if that makes any sense. it's about reclaiming your own girlhood in whatever way that looks to you, we all look and dress differently but have the same sorta energy that connects us as a community.

it all began with nymphet, which was all about classic americana, lolita, lana del rey, gingham, coca cola, diners, priscilla presley etc. but the tag got censored by tumblr because many kink blogs were infiltrating this innocent subculture with sexual material. in this era girls were feeling connected to dolores haze from lolita through their own experiences and related to her as a tragic figure.

the community was revived many times but the current home of the community is with @coquette-club which was created by @lovesickbrat and also used by @bbabyyy ♡ there is a lot more to our history that I'm missing out on but if you look on my blog you will find more explanations.

there are many subtypes of coquette which is why you see so many conflicting aesthetics within the tag, from coquette noir (which is like an expression of French new wave film stars, 1920s aesthetics, Betty boop, mainly black outfits etc.) to bubblegum coquette (all things pink and girly, electra heart era marina and the diamonds, barbie etc.) and many coquettes on here either fit into these substyles or blend some together to make their own personal style!

the old money aesthetic is popular but controversial due to its implications, and I'm personally more into the thrifty side of coquette, and using pieces that I've had for years in my looks.

as a community we usually try to distance ourselves from the pro-ed/pro-ana communities as they can be harmful to our vulnerable members, since they promote eds and make them look glamorous which is something we don't want associated with our subculture.
