dick would go all out for your birthday to the point that it’s embarrassing. he’s telling everyone in his family, all of his friends, everybody that your day is coming up. of course the titans help him throw a party for you! they’re going to stores to get decorations, hanging them around your apartment with the spare key dick has. dick’s making all of your favorite food & apps, creating a lil menu for it all that’s messily made via microsoft word. even making a specialty cocktail for you & your friends to have (a drink that will def get you fucked up but tastes like your favorite juice).

he’s kissing you when you walk in the door with an arm slung over your shoulder, making a plate for you, doing everything that you’d need from him for the night.

and once everybody’s leaving, wally deciding on sleeping on your couch, dick’s locking your bedroom door and gently stripping you of your clothes. he’s done so much for you, but do you really think he’s not going to give you a finale?

the finale? rounds and rounds of head that dick’s perfected in his time dating you. long and slow stripes up your entrance to start, making you finish at the slower pace a time or two before he’s quickening his movements.

he’s asking you to close your eyes on the way there, not putting a blindfold on because he knows that you did your makeup all pretty and would hate for it to get smudged. when you arrive, the sun is an hour away from setting and he’s leading you to the space with only a table and two chairs.

the courses are endless and the wine to pair, delicious. he has your favorite dessert come out last, ‘happy birthday’ written in chocolate on the plate with a single candle made for you to blow out.

once the private and loving fesitivities finish taking place at the restaurant, he’s driving you back to your shared place. his hand never leaving your thigh as he gives you a sweet kiss at every red light he stops at.

"you didn’t have to do all that, but i appreciate it, y’know," you say against his soft lips that turn to continue driving. "everything’s for you, always will be."

this is so thoughtful, thank you!! although honestly, i’m really happy with all of the asks i’ve gotten so far. i’m pleasantly surprised by (and thankful for!) the amount of submissions, even if it’s not a crazy amount.

i have lots of thoughts on Hoagie. he really is such a sweet, goofy kid. unfortunately though, his dad is very much dead in my eyes. Hoagie misses him a lot, but Tommy doesn’t really remember him. In Tommy’s eyes, Hoagie is kinda like his surrogate dad. Unrelated to Sad Family Stuff, I also think that before deciding to work as a field operative, Hoagie strongly considering working as a 2x4 tech inventor/engineer at either moonbase or the deep sea science lab. he quickly changed his mind when he realized being a scientist meant that he would rarely be able to pilot any of his creations. he also really wanted to stick with wally, since the two of them have known each other since pre-k (the longest friendship out of the sector!). even though lots of people assume Hoagie loves school because of his natural intelligence, he actually really dislikes it. he’d much rather learn things through experimentation or hands on experience, and he’s so smart none of his classes challenge him enough to be interesting. i can def see him taking accelerated courses throughout his entire academic career in an attempt to get it over with as soon as possible. he probably ends up majoring in something like aerospace engineering or physics.

first of all, for Chad, his middle name is Mallory. it’s something we talked about in DMs, but it is so insanely canon to me now. he’s so embarrassed by it he’s even tried to edit it out of the super big computermabob. anyways, he also plays an insane amount of instruments. mostly strings. his favorite is the bass because of how simple it is, and he plays it in the scumbucketpunks. his parents hate it, but it’s one of the few hobbies he has that he truly enjoys. i am a big believer in the The Steve is actually a decommissioned Numbuh 100 theory, so i think that being able to hang out with his old mentor outside of the teen ninja setting is something Chad really clings onto, even if it is very bittersweet. honestly, most things in Chad’s life are either very complicated or bittersweet. poor guy. but i think he’s spent so long dedicating his life to the KND, galactic or otherwise, he isn’t even really sure if he’d be able to live a normal life if given the chance. he just wishes there was someone he could talk to without having to lie around all the truths he’s being forced to hide.

It's so funny when you can catch voice actors in other shows when you know them for something else, the one that always catches me off guard is Mr Rob Paulsen. After rewatching animaniacs I started hearing Paulsen's voice EVERYWHERE.

Ahhhhhhh!!!! I came here because I just finished Chapter 15 of your Bad Guys win A/B/O fic (I can’t remember the exact title and have the tab closed 😭) and let me tell you I am OBSESSED with your writing, holy chips. It’s such an indulgent fic for me with the angst and more angst and aghhhhhhhhh it’s so good!!! And I have so many questions, so many little thought hyper fixations from it! Like, Wally being alive- AGCHCIDJNDND!! How would Slade even react to that, to Wally and Dick potentially being reunited? And Tim!!! My poor baby!! I’m literally frothing at the mouth every time I remember how isolated he is in regards to everyone else. Because Jason’s finally with the others now, and Dick has Damian (and had Rose and Joey as well technically) but Tim is just… GOD THE ANGST. AUTHOR YOU GENIUS. He’s all alone in these isolated mountains with Ra’s and going through non-consensual body modifications and AFSHDHJJNN (Tim is one of my favorite characters). Although I guess he technically does have SOME support, slightly, with Layla and Ali and Amzi… It’s not the same as full on family yk? And then DICK. DICK’S ARC. GOD. He’s isolated, and coerced, and manipulated- he’s given this false sense of home, of pack, he’s trauma bonded with his abuser, he’s genuinely emotionally entangled with Slade, he’s initially terrified of Slade’s softness because he KNOWS the psychological consequences of softness from a abuser and captor, he KNOWS it’ll make everything ten times more confusing and he’ll get conflicted about his emotions and bonds, AND IT HAPPENS AND NOW HES MATED!! And the engagement dinner! What’s going to happen to Tim? God, what’s going to happen when KON sees him? I genuinely wonder what Tim’s sort of breaking point is going to be, for this fic, however. What I mean by this is Jason and Dick both had this sort of arc where they were reached this submissive, defeated state. For Dick this happened in much smaller increments, him breaking down along the way and then the final sort of end all be all being the bite, and with Jason it was suddenly forced into him, with Sionis’ forced mating and Jason’s subsequent submission. Even if Jason wasn’t fully broken, he was still submitted to Sionis. But with Tim, he’s still got all this fire and snark. He’s ready to do whatever it takes to make this hard for Ra’s, with the way he keeps egging him on. I’m DYING because I have a feeling the forced mating bite from Ra’s is going to be HIS breaking point into submisson, and OH MY CHIPS AM I NERVOUS FOR THAT. I just KNOW he’s going to be the prettiest bride ever though, I say this in the least sadistic way possible I promise you I am not trying to glorify or romanticize rape and non-consensual body modifications resulting in a loss of control over masculinity, but like. Tim is canonically the Twink ok. He’s going to be so pretty and so tragic and I just. I’m just here for that ok?

There should’ve been tension there for a while...and then the bachelorette episode could’ve been the resolution of that tension (with no petty digs from Frost to Iris because seriously wtf?? The nerve and audacity?? You assisted in her attempted murder last year, you have no right to needle her like that!)

Hartley Rathaway

How I feel about this character: I have a love-hate relationship with him 😂 his snark is entertaining in s1 but ehh I still didn’t really like him...but in s2, he's very sweet and piques my interest. Then I was mad that they made him mean again post-Crisis for no reason, but...he had a cool aesthetic (unfortunately, he still insulted/devalued Cisco 💀 also unfortunately, the show proved how much they didn’t care about his sexuality by giving him a sexy-lamp boyfriend with no personality). And I liked him in s9—it felt like they finally settled into how to write him well, and even Roderick, poor guy, finally got some personality. Just a smidge, though

All the people I ship romantically with this character: Roderick, sometimes Cisco (the s2 version of Hartley). Also I'm intrigued by the Singhaway ship (comics canon) 👀 ofc the show destroyed that possibility by having Singh be married from s1 onwards, but if they'd kept him single...👀

My non-romantic OTP for this character: His sister, Jerrie (comics canon) 💞 also Cisco (I don't ship them all the time 😂). ALSO Wally and Linda (comics canon)

My unpopular opinion about this character: Him insulting Cisco isn’t funny or cute and never was ✋ and any Hartmon fic (romantic or platonic) needs to start off with an apology for that (either one directly stated or implied)

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I wish he’d gotten to keep his s2 characterization (without reconciling with his terrible parents), and that he’d gotten to be more present in the show and met/befriended Wally and Linda. Mark Farina Halloween 2015 Live Set

This is a 3-hour audio recording of Mark Farina Halloween 2015 live set recorded in Orange County, California, on October 31, 2015.

Mark F'ing Farina. Easily in the top 5 deep house dj's. Probably in the top three. Maybe in the top 2?

Come on. I've never heard someone deliver such deep funk so consistently. Every. Single. Time.

So this is an interesting recording. It's not from my archive of classic rave recordings, nor something recorded recently. This is the audio counterpart to a live video stream I did all the way back in 2015.

Today, post Covid, the mention of live streaming elicits not even a yawn, we are so desensitized to it by now. For obvious reasons, the real streaming revolution happened 2019-2021. So I consider it a little feather in my cap that Rave Tapes was running good-sounding, multi-cam streams long before the trend took off.

The event? A cozy Halloween party hosted by Swerve Underground, the monthly event hosted by producer/dj Wally Callerio of Dufflebag Recordings and partner/dj 1st Nature. Wally has been a respected producer for years and had the right connections to pull some amazing names down to their Orange County venue, an hour south of Los Angeles. Names like Dereck Carter, Doc Martin, and other titans of the deep house movement.

So when the opportunity came up to do a live video stream of their Halloween party, taking place in a cool bohemian art space, with special guest Mark Farina? Pfft. It was the chance I had been waiting for, lol!

So, miraculously, the whole thing went off almost without a hitch. I say almost because I believe power was cut to the decks at one point. But considering it was a 2+ hour set, we forgot about it almost instantly after power was restored. Otherwise, the internet connection was good, my gear held up. It happened. In fact, here's the video evidence:

So this is the audio to that. While the audio in the YouTube version sounds unbelievably clean, this sounds even better. I finally went back and properly mixed the four audio channels, left-right stereo pair from the dj decks, then left-right stereo pair from the room mic.

It sounds absolutely pristine, if I do say so myself. I had to decide how loud to keep the mic levels vs the feed from the dj mixer. I think I am happy with these levels but I might change my mind and update the file at some point.

The content? Well, it's good ol' reliable Mark Farina. Of course every dj has a "look" and Farina certainly has his trademark glasses and scruffy chin. But man, when you see that familiar visage behind the decks and hear the funky bass line over the system, you know you have nothing to worry about. You know you're in for a good time.

Last time I saw Farina was EDC 2022 Bionic Jungle stage. It was very late Sat night. Actually very early morning Sunday about 4 am. Still dark and trippy.

Saturday. Hump day. People are grinding in more ways than one. And Mark is closing out little Bionic Jungle. I don't mean little in a condescending way. Actually, the inconspicuousness of the stage is what made it so great. It was def an intimate space and you could get right up close to your favorite deep house dj's. My only issue that night was that it wasn't going to yield a complete Rave Tapes recording. Yes, I recorded while I danced there. But knew I was arriving late because of another set, and I knew I was leaving early because I don't like getting stuck in parking. While there may have been an hour of material, the other issue was there was a nasty buzzing coming from some vibrating stage rigging.

So that's probably why I'm mentioning EDC here, because it's a good opportunity to discuss it since there will never be a Rave Tapes recording from that night to link it to.

I guess my point is, be it at Swerve Halloween 2015, EDC 2022, or the other times I've heard Farina play, Farina always, ALWAYS, delivers a top shelf performance.

While I'm always eager to bring these live sets to you for the sake of your listening pleasure, truth be told, I get excited when posting these because in most cases it's the first time I get to have easy SoundCloud access to the mixes, too.

And with this one, I'm over-the-moon thrilled for completely selfish reasons ;)

thinkin bout the night lilith and betty brought her home for the first time and how much home now felt like....home...like a family. a truly deep tie between all of them. they were talking about having kids for YEARS before having batsy. and she was just so...perfect!! a little menace!! barnaby and Mrs. Beagle came by the day after and barnaby couldnt stop crying. i imagine hes always wanted kids but it just hasnt happened yet, so shes his favorite thing in the world (wallys def a little jealous, but he gets over it ). he tried planning the baby shower (adoption shower?? still dont know how she happpened lol) but realized how SHIT he was at it so julie was MORE than happy to plan it. it was a little bit of a disaster but everyone had so much fun welcoming the newest neighbor!

roping in nina and molly; nina isnt very fond of kids but she does enjoy how sweet and curious batsy is (reminds her of molly). she'll crochet little things with her webs for the crib when she was first brought home. little tiny baby booties for the winter too.

molly just loves how chaotic this kid is and will do anything to get a reaction from her. frequently runs around on all fours chasing batsy around (its ok they're having fun, barnaby will do it to and then batsy will jump on his back and they'll chase molly). molly tries showing batsy her "dolls" (creepy af btw) and although everyones like hey maybe dont give her the doll with no eyes and mysterious liquid coming from her mouth and ratted hair but batsy is like omg this is MY baby.

the b in batsy b briar stands for beagle btw. they wanted her to have both last names. idk why neither took each others last names. maybe they just didnt feel the need to?

10k CSMM Monotype Clear! It’s my first time doing this, and Water-type is my most favorite type (yeah, I’m really basic). Gotta have fun before the dreaded Sinnoh CSMM starts next week. Only Lorelei’s stage that’s not presync, the rest are presync clear.

Note that this clear was only for Water-type sync pairs, that means no Cyrus allowed, even though I really wanted to use him.

Lorelei: This stage took three attempts because Barry kept failing to proc MPR on his trainer move. Had to grid Barry with Ramp Up on his Trainer Move, losing Cakewalk as a result, but that’s okay. Sleepchaining 3 targets at once is so difficult and I can’t keep it up. Fortunately, Elio’s Sp. Def buffs helped to keep the party alive post-sync, before Barry launched his second sync to finish the stage off. I actually gave up midway to sleepchain everyone, so I just used Sparkling Aria to debuff, and the damage wasn’t bad under rain, that really helped Barry. Unfortunately, that caused the gauges to be a bit difficult, especially Propelling Move sometimes didn’t wanna proc, but it’s okay. This team managed to clear, and that’s what matters.

Lance: At this point I realized that I only have four rain setters. They are OG May, Tech Gyarados, Tech Blastoise, and SS Kris, so one stage had to settle without rain. This is the stage that I decided to go without rain. To compensate the lack of rain, I brought SS Blue to keep the party alive. Nessa was gridless there, but she’s meant to be there to debuff defenses so SS Grimsley’s damage could increase. The plan worked. SS Grimsley didn’t need rain to clear the stage, thankfully, because of Nessa and SS Blue’s help. 

While Kris would definitely dethrone SS Grimsley for physical water-type striker at 25th, I will always remember SS Grimsley as my second 5*, my third EX unit, and for carrying me through my earlier times alongside Wally. I still remembered the horror and shock that I experienced when I clicked SS Grimsley’s trainer move when I got him for the first time because I didn’t read it (back then I assumed all trainer moves were beneficial buffs with no drawbacks), good times.

Bruno: Hey, Bruno is Water-weak, and EX Siebold is too damn powerful on-type. I don’t think he needs a rain, so I went without rain setter. This is also my first time using Lodge May. She’s...okay, but she definitely needs rain for optimal performance. Her Surf DPS coupled with some Supereffective Up Next helped to cover Siebold, who couldn’t contribute much other than sync nuke. And yes, Siebold wiped off sides first sync, then May spammed Surf until Siebold was ready to sync again and finish the fight. Swimsuit Misty provided passive healing and defensive buffs. I think I still prefer Lodge Rosa and Lodge Silver than Lodge May, though.

Agatha: OG Kris was actually already in my EX queue after Elio because I like her EX outfit, but after the update, I changed the order to EX SS N first, then SS Hilbert (if I get him), then Elio, and then OG Kris. Then I realized that I had like 40 5* power-ups that I purposely left for SS N, so with OG Kris’ upcoming grid expansion as well, I decided to EX her much sooner. Basically, this team was all about flinch-locking, and it worked miraculously well. Hilbert with Adrenaline 1 is certainly amazing, I’m glad that he’s graduated from Vigilance, even if it means restricting his grid flexibility. Somehow got really lucky and landed all the flinches, that Kris managed to sync for the second time before Agatha even used her sync move. She also didn’t miss her Mega Kick at all, which was impressive. So happy for her. This is the clear that I’m most satisfied of.

Blue: God, this took way too many tries, but that’s because a lot of water-types are weak to Grass, and SS Kris isn’t good at tanking physical attacks, especially physical Grass-type attacks. The only remaining alternatives of her are OG Misty (who’s weak to Electric but also not good at tanking physical attacks), and SS Misty (also prefers to tank special attacks) so...SS Kris it is. Because I am using SS Kris, I wanted to use special attackers, so I went with SS Kris/SS Misty/OG May. The plan didn’t work very well because Blue really loved spamming buffs to himself. Then I tried to make OG May as the main striker instead, also didn’t work very well because she kept missing crit on sync and missing her Muddy Water. 

Then I gave up and decided to be obedient to the established parameter of this stage: boosted physical attacks. I went with Lodge Rosa and Lodge Silver together. This means SS Kris’ Special Move Up stacks are unusable, but whatever, she still can cap Silver’s crit. Both units debuffed physical defenses like crazy, both of them hit really hard (and Rosa alongside SS Kris luckily landed Staggering too), then this team won first try. I didn’t know who nuked harder between Silver and Rosa since both have innate Relentless, but I didn’t have time to think there and just nuked with Rosa instead because the gauge is running out and she’s also running out of Aqua Jet. I like Lodge Rosa and Lodge Silver a lot, they’re awesome.

So yeah, that’s monotype CSMM run. Kind of a mess, especially at first and last stage, but I’m glad I somehow pulled it off. Now to prepare for Sinnoh CSMM.

Unit Teambuilding - Penny

In an effort to decrease spending, my general goal is to find one sync pair I'm most excited about as the main focus, with flexibility for one other thing if I'm really sold on it by kit. Friends...this is the main focus.

General Overview And hilariously, it's also my favorite kit of the bunch. Penny and Sylveon kinda rule. A support pair that, in one turn, gives +4 Sp Atk/+2 crit. 3/5 grid has Team Sharp Entry. She applies Fairy rebuff on first attack, which is AoE. Who the fuck is NC Blue? Penny additionally packs X Sp Def All, which can get Shielded 1 on grid, as well as a Buddy move that functions as Snatch and a Potion and cannot miss, while also being...okay not good damage, but okay damage for a support. Her passives are where things get hilarious. This is where she gets that rebuff effect, but she also packs Mind Games 9, and Team Smart Command 9, which is a +1 SMUN stack per trainer move. That is respectable.

So now, we gotta talk problems. Penny's overall bulk at base is fairly poor, with sub-700HP and sub-300 Defense, leaving her relatively frail physically even with Shielded. Her ideal scenario is using her TM immediately, and then boosting defenses, but this means using all your SMUN stacks early, when those are ideally applied late. Meanwhile, attacking happens once early for rebuff, but likely not again until buffed, but then you're lacking Sp Def debuffs. It's hard to really assess what Penny should or should not be doing. To make her life worse, they gave her Strike sub-role. The added defenses of Tech had some merit (though Field was the optimal choice), and they gave her Strike for a borderline useless 5/5 node. Even when Sylveon's good DeNA just dunks on it for no reason.

EX, Role, and Move Level? Support, so EX encouraged, and 3/5 borderline mandatory. While she does a lot at 1/5 still, I do think the inclusion of Team Sharp Entry, MGR9, Revenge Boost, MP Burst, Shielded, Team Fist Bump, and Satisfied Snicker. She gets a lot of great tools. The Role is Strike. Unless you really want to go for that Brainpower sync, I suggest you don't.

Team 1: Penny, Valerie, MC Sylveon VeeVee Power. Yes, a full team of Sylveon, and honest to god it's viable. Penny's able to bulk the team up by quite a lot, while pushing their damage to fantastic heights. Valerie is finally getting her much-needed EX, and while not insane, her sync is legitimately respectable damage. Enter the Eggmons, where MC Sylveon can set Fairy Zone for the extra multiplier. This team, for on-type, legitimately works. And you have no idea how excited I am for it.

Team 2: Penny, literally any Variety Eevee except Umbreon, their associated Eevee Eggmon To avoid clogging this up, let's put it this way: All Eevee teams are viable, thanks to Penny. The Variety Eevesi are all in need of Penny's exact buffs, with the sole exception of Selene and Umbreon. Even SS Misty gets in on this action, so we're counting her here. I'll also mention Irida to avoid clogging that up, but like...trust me bro, it works. Penny even has some level of being optimal for Variety Lyra, whose multipliers rely on Sp Def debuffing, while Kris and Elio also give the +1 crit to ease Penny's grid off of Team Sharp Entry. Variety Eevees all have the same limitation, in that their field effect on sync doesn't last. Enter Eevee Eggmons once again, to provide it any time they need it for sync. And thus, we are invincible. Penny is, legitimately, the Eevee Master.

Team 3: Penny, Diantha/SS Wally/Alder, P!Serena/Bede/SC Ingo Really fun part of Penny's kit: she has Satisfied Snicker. This means Devastation gets powered up, which is ideal for partners like Diantha and SS Wally in her own type. If using those two separately, P!Serena is nice for the speed management on Diantha, while Bede's debuffs are ideal for Wally. But you can also run with any other Devastation user, like Alder, who may not get the rebuff benefit, but loves the combination of Sp Atk/Sp Def debuffing Penny does, while SC Ingo can provide the speed boosting and Zone support. Another fun note: Penny's ability to stack SMUN is great for pairs like Alder and Diantha, whose DPS moves hit like a freight train already.

Team 4: Penny, Anni N, Tech Ninetales Alright, you may be wondering, what's the structure here? Anni N has offense debuffs, which are great as a complement to Penny's defensive buffs. For survival, this is ideal. Moreover, N using Noble Roar means he's not attacking. And that's stacks of SMUN. You spend a few turns getting those stacks up, sync with Penny for double damage, then unleash Blue Flare under Sun. No penalty AoE damage, and Penny's able to nearly cap his offenses to make it work. These stacks of moves up next, on pairs that can conserve them, lead to some of the funny numbers hits that people love.

Final Thoughts Penny's really, really fun. She reminds me vaguely of Variety Mallow, whose 1MP trainer move performed comparable buffs, just without accuracy. And in exchange, it's excellent Sp Def debuffing and utility perfectly aligned to the Fairy type, with some generalist abilities that make her really useful. I do still worry about her general survival. I don't know how well she's going to take hits, and the Buddy Move is limited use so it scares me. But I do really, really like this pair conceptually.

Hello! This is a good question. I, however, seldom read fics anymore 😅 I know, I know. I'm just a very picky reader. I also mainly read just Jade and Will stuff, so most of my recs are those.

If AO3 isn't shooting out what you like, have you tried fanfiction.net? That used to be my go-to in the olden days of YJ.
