Praise â¤â
GO-4 is the most loyal bot on board the Axiom, mostly to the AUTO Pilot but still loyal nonetheless. Some may say it's just because of the "reward and punishment" system in his programming, but what if there's more to it?

IF HE WAS BEING HONEST, HE DIDNâT KNOW IT WOULD COME TO THIS. He could remember it like it was yesterday, when you held out your hand and took his â placing them together on your belly. Your lilac eyes shone against his bright blue, full of wonder and anxiety. He was frozen at that moment. He was overwhelmed.Â
Not even his six-eyes could keep up with his emotions, his thoughts. He knew it was an accident, he knew it wasnât something both of you planned. But he was happy. He was all too happy that he scooped you in his arms, as though you were the treasure of the world and cradled you, whispering the most loving things, loving words ever known to any being.
It was never your plan to have children, not even with the pressure from the elders of your clans. There was never the time. There was never a sense of security. WIth what Satoru was planning to do, with what dangers thereâll be â just like he had experienced in youth, none of you wanted that for your child. And you wanted to help him, you wanted to do well by him. Satoru was your lifeline, your purpose to live was his goal. Your life with him was what made your life blossom in these past few years of marriage. But that changed too, with the bludding life growing in your belly.
You both cried that night, holding each other. It was hard to comprehend that this was happening, that a child had chosen both of you. You were glad that the Tsumiki and Megumi were at a sleep-over. They didnât need to see you both so conflicted with your joy and your worries. No kid should be burdened by such a thing as the worries of the heavy world.Â
The room was dimly lit, the soft glow of evening casting long shadows on the walls. Satoru sat across from you, his cerulean eyes reflecting a myriad of emotionsâexcitement, concern, and a fierce determination to protect. The news of your pregnancy had brought a bittersweet mix of joy and anxiety.
âWe need to decide what to do next, darling.â Satoru said, his voice steady but laced with worry. âI donât want you to suffer like my mother did. The multiple assassination attempts... I canât let that happen to you.â
âWe canât tell the world, Satoru,â you said quietly with a soft nod. âThe higher-ups could see this as an issue. There was a time when the passing of powers in the Gojo clan â similar to the Six-Eyes, was from father to son. They might see our child as a threat, SatoruâŚ.and IâŚI donât want them to hurt our child.â
Satoruâs jaw tightened, his protective instincts kicking in. âThen we keep this between us, Megumi, and Tsumiki. My motherâŚ.maybe your mother and Aunt Arisu can help us hide this from the world too. Theyâll understand the importance of keeping this secret.â
You reached out, your fingers intertwining with his. âThey will. Theyâve always been supportive of usâŚand our plans. Theyâll be kind to us about this too. It is their next of kin now, after all.â
For a moment, your husband looks at you. His free hand draped across your cheek and you looked at him so lovingly, leaning your head against the warm palm of his hand. He could feel how lucky he was. How beautiful you were. His eyes lowered at your belly and felt that same warmth glowing from within you, as welcoming and loving towards the person who had helped give such life to the growing seed in your belly.Â
Satoru pulled you into a gentle embrace, his arms wrapping around you protectively. âIâm sorry, darling.â he murmured, his voice thick with emotion. âIâm sorry.â
You pulled back slightly, looking up at him with confusion. âWhy are you apologizing?â
âBecauseâŚ.â he said, his voice barely above a whisper, âYouâre the one who will suffer the most here, not me. The secrecy, the danger... itâs all on you. And all I can do is hold your hand. And IâŚ.â
You shook your head, resting your hand against his cheek. âYour hand is more than enough. You by my side is more than enough. All I have ever needed, all our child will ever need â is you. All they need is their father.â
âWhen did I ever deserve something as good as you in my life?â
You smiled at him, âBecause you are good, Satoru. Youâve always been.â
âYouâre the most important thing in my life.â He whispers to you, his hand on your belly. âYou and our child.â
âWeâre in this together, Satoru. Iâm not alone in this.â You let your hand brush against his silver locks. âBecause youâll always be here, hm?â
He closed his eyes, leaning into your touch. âI love you,â he said softly, his voice trembling slightly. âI love both of you. And Iâll protect you with all I have.â
Tears welled up in your eyes, the weight of his words sinking in. âI love you too,â you whispered, feeling the strength of his love envelop you. âWeâll get through this. Together.â
The next few days were a whirlwind of planning and preparation. Your mother and Aunt Arisu were brought into the fold, their wisdom and experience invaluable in devising a plan to keep your pregnancy a secret. They promised to support you in any way they could, offering their home as a safe haven where you could hide from prying eyes.
Megumi and Tsumiki were surprisingly understanding, their loyalty to you and Satoru unwavering. They vowed to keep the secret, to protect their future sibling from the dangers that lurked in the shadows of the jujutsu world.
As the weeks turned into months, you found strength in the love and support of those around you. Satoruâs determination to protect you never wavered, his presence a constant source of comfort and reassurance. Despite the secrecy and the danger, there was a sense of hope that carried you through each day.
And in the quiet moments, when it was just the two of you, you felt a deep sense of gratitude for the love that bound you together. It was a love that would see you through the darkest of times, a love that would protect and nurture the new life growing inside you. And with Satoru by your side, you knew you could face whatever challenges lay ahead.
The days leading up to Satoru's confrontation with Sukuna were heavy with unspoken fears and silent resolutions. Each moment felt borrowed, a fragile gift that could shatter under the weight of impending doom. You moved through your days with a heightened awareness, every touch, every glance laden with meaning. The anticipation was a living thing, a constant presence that neither of you could shake.
The last time you both saw your son was during separate visits to the ancestral manor. He knew you had been there, especially when you brought Yuuji along at his request. Satoru had visited him shortly afterward, driven by an insistent need to see his boy before the impending confrontation. The weight of the world seemed lighter, if only for a moment, as he thought of his son.
Satoru could only sigh, the longing in his heart palpable. He had yearned for Suguru for the past eleven, twelve years, a constant ache that never quite faded. Yet, this longing for Suguru, as intense as it was, paled in comparison to the deep, unyielding yearning of a father. He had missed his son so much, too much. The distance, both physical and emotional, had been a torment he could hardly bear.
Satoru was certain he remembered everything about his son. The boy was a spitting image of himâsilver hair that fell a bit longer, the same striking blue eyes, though his son's were even darker, like the depths of the sea. But more importantly, he recognized the essence of you in every move, every quirk, every smile. Your son might look like Satoru, but in all the ways that mattered, he was you.
Satoru adored him the most in the world. Even if he loves you, there is truly nothing thatâs going to encapsulate, translate how much he loves his little boy. Your son was a constant, beautiful reminder of the bond you both shared. Your son carried your grace, your kindness, and your strength. Every time Satoru looked at him, he saw the love and unity that defined your relationship. For that, he was profoundly grateful. For that, he was happy. There was a reminder of you, of him, together in this world, encapsulated in the boy who bore the best of both of you.
And here he was, newly sealed, recovering from all of it;
All he could think about was wanting to see your dear boy.
All he could think about was wanting to embrace him again.
"I want to go to Hida," he said, his voice steady but laced with a vulnerability that made your heart ache. He looks to you softly, eyes full of yearning. âI wanna see him.â
"Are you sure?" you asked gently, searching his face for any hesitation. You purse your lips. âSatoru, itâs unsafe now. Are you sure?â
He nodded, a small, almost imperceptible smile tugging at his lips. "I want to spend as much time as possible trying to make sure our son understands that his father loves him."
You could hear the uncertainty in his voice, the doubt that gnawed at him despite his resolute exterior. "Satoru, you're a good father." you assured him, but he shook his head, his expression conflicted. âYou have put your own heart at hold to protect him. He understands.â
"I don't know if I'm doing it right or wrong," he admitted, running a hand through his hair in frustration. "I love our son as much as I love Megumi, as much as I love you. But I didn't have a father growing up. Mine died when I was young, and I don't remember him very well. My mother tells me that he loved a lot, but I don't know if I believe that."
You stepped closer, placing a comforting hand on his arm. "You love our son, and that's what matters most. He's always known that, even if you haven't been able to be there as much as you wanted. He sees it because you show him.â
Satoru sighed, his gaze distant as he recalled the moments he missed, the milestones he couldn't witness firsthand. "I want to be the best father to him, darling. I want him to know he's the most beloved son. That I love him the most in the world.â
"You already are, Satoru," you whispered, leaning your head against his shoulder.
âWe have to see him.â Your husband retorts back to you, a sad smile on his lips. âIf this is the last chanceââ
âIt wonât be,â You shake your head at him. âYou know that.â
âI know, butâŚâ He sighs, resting his head against the crook of your neck. âI want to be sure. Nothing is bound, darling. I want to⌠I want to be able to leave him with something he can remember his old man by.â
The weight of his words pressed down on you both, the unspoken fears and the grim reality of what was to come. You could feel your throat choke up as you tried to banish the tears from your eyes. The thought of Satoru not being there hurt you.
Not only because you loved him, but because you knew your son loved him the best in the world. The thought of him becoming without the person he holds dear in the world, it tears you apart.
You want to believe that your husband was the title he was given. You knew he was strong. You believe he will overcome this. Thatâs why you keep putting off visiting your son. It was safer, it would be in the future that you and Satoru had fought so hard to fight for. But your husband was just a man too. A man who has a finite life and a heart too big for the world to comprehend. He was just Satoru. A husband, a father. A friend, a teacher. He was just like that.Â
You look at him with a guilty look. You were selfish with him, with what you said. He needed you, he needed Satoru. Your son needed you both. As much as you needed him. What is protecting him from all these dangers, if you both werenât there to love him either?
What is loving Satoru if you canât be there for him either? If you canât love him properly either? You took a deep breath. Youâve made up your mind. You will not deprive him of this. You would not be selfish with this. You would let him be selfish. You would let him live as he had never before.Â
You held him tighter, feeling the tension in his muscles, the vulnerability he rarely showed. âYouâre right. We will see him, my love.â you affirmed, your voice steady. âAnd weâll make sure he knows how much heâs loved.â
Satoruâs eyes met yours, a mixture of gratitude and sorrow. âThank you, darling.â he murmured, his voice thick with emotion. âFor understanding, for always being here. I donât know what Iâd do without you.â
âIâm sorry, Satoru,â you whispered to him tenderly as you kissed the small of his lips. âI should have been better with this.â
âHey, donât be sorry. You want to protect him too, I understand.â He tells you, a small smile on his lips. âSukuna has familiarity with Hida, I know youâre wary about it.â
You nodded, the weight of your concerns evident in your eyes. âI just want to make sure heâs safe. That weâre all safe.â
Satoruâs smile softened, and he brushed a thumb over your cheek. âWeâll keep him safe. Weâll keep everyone safe. Thatâs a promise.â
You smiled softly, brushing a stray strand of hair from his forehead. âWeâre in this together, Satoru. Always.â
He kissed your forehead, a lingering touch that conveyed all the words he couldnât say. âLetâs go to Hida,â he said finally. âLetâs spend this time with him, make memories that will stay with him.â
You nodded, feeling a sense of resolve settle within you. âYes, letâs do that. Weâll make sure he knows how much he means to us.â
All of Satoruâs training was canceled for the next few days.
Everyone understood why and said nothing about any of it.
Gojo Satoru couldnât be happier to enjoy the long trip.
Because the next heâll get off the train, heâll see his dear son.
ARRIVING IN HIDA WAS A REFRESHING THING. It was as though the looming war, the destruction, the suffering, did not exist. These precious days felt suspended in time, a haven of peace amidst the chaos.
Each sunrise brought with it a semblance of normalcy, a gentle reminder of the life you were fighting to protect. The air was filled with the scent of blooming flowers, and the sun cast a warm, golden glow over everything it touched.
As the days passed, you found moments of solace in the simple joys of being together. Satoruâs determination to be the best father he could be was palpable. He approached fatherhood with the same intensity and dedication he showed in his sorcery, and you admired the way he threw himself into the role with such fervor.
His playful nature shone brightly as he engaged your son in games, stories, and lessons. The bond between father and son grew stronger with each passing day, and it filled you with a sense of hope and reassurance.
Gojo Satoshi did not know much about the wider world beyond the confines of the carefully constructed life you and your family had built around him. But Satoru thought that was for the best. At his tender age, the complexities and dangers of the world could wait.
For now, Satoshi was wrapped in a cocoon of love and safety, his days filled with laughter and innocence. The little lordling of the Gojo clan had the privilege of being shielded from the harsh realities, existing in a world where he was cherished and adored.
âYoung master Gojo, please do not run too much! Youâll slip!â His nurse-maid's voice rang out in a mix of concern and exasperation as she hurried after the energetic boy. Her normally composed demeanor was visibly frazzled as she struggled to keep pace with her lively charge. âYoung master!â
âHeh, chase me! Chase me!â Satoshi's infectious giggle echoed through the gardens, his small feet moving quickly across the manicured lawn. His silvery hair, so much like his father's, shimmered in the sunlight, and his blue eyes sparkled with pure delight.
The scene was picturesque, the verdant greenery of the garden serving as a perfect backdrop to the boy's joy. Flowers bloomed in a riot of colors, and the gentle hum of insects added to the serene atmosphere.
Gojo Satoru watched from a distance, a soft smile playing on his lips. He saw so much of himself in Satoshi, from the boyâs boundless energy to the mischievous glint in his eyes. Yet, he also saw you in himâthe kindness, the warmth, the innate ability to find joy in the simplest things.
Satoshiâs world was small but rich, filled with the love and attention of those who cared for him. He didn't know of the looming threats or the responsibilities that came with his lineage. Instead, his days were spent exploring the garden, listening to stories, and playing games. It was a simple life, but it was one that Satoru cherished deeply for his son.
The nurse-maid finally caught up to Satoshi, scooping him into her arms despite his playful wriggling. âYoung master, you must be careful,â she chided gently, her tone softening as she adjusted his tousled hair. âWe wouldnât want you to get hurt. You are too important to be hurt.â
Satoshi pouted for a moment before breaking into a wide grin. âOkay, Iâll be careful,â he promised, though the twinkle in his eye suggested that he was already planning his next adventure.
âOur little lordling is too bright for the sun, huh?â Satoru approached, his presence immediately noticed by Satoshi, who reached out eagerly.Â
âPapa!â the boy exclaimed, his arms stretching towards his father.
With a warm chuckle, Satoru took Satoshi into his arms, lifting him high into the air. âHaving fun, little lordling?â he asked, his voice filled with affection. âYou were zooming out there, huh?â
âYeah!â Satoshi replied enthusiastically. âWe were playing chase, and I was winning!â
Satoru laughed, his heart swelling with love. âIâm sure you were. But remember to listen to your nurse-maid, okay? We donât want any accidents.â
Satoshi nodded solemnly before breaking into giggles again. âI will, Papa.â
As Satoru held his son close, he couldnât help but feel a deep sense of contentment. In these moments, the worries of the world faded away, leaving only the pure, unadulterated love between a father and his child. He knew that soon enough, Satoshi would grow older and the realities of their world would become unavoidable. But for now, he was determined to protect this innocence, to ensure that Satoshi's world remained filled with laughter and love for as long as possible.
âLetâs go find Mama,â Satoru said, carrying Satoshi back towards the house. âIâm sure sheâs missed you.â
Satoshi's eyes lit up at the mention of you, and he nodded eagerly. âYeah! Letâs go find Mama!â
The path back to the house was lined with blooming cherry blossoms, their petals gently drifting to the ground with each breeze. Satoru walked with an easy grace, his son nestled securely in his arms. The house, an elegant blend of traditional and modern architecture, stood as a sanctuary amid the chaos of the outside world.
As they approached, the soft hum of your voice reached their ears. You were in the kitchen, preparing a meal, the aroma of freshly cooked rice and simmering soup wafting through the air. Your presence was a constant source of comfort and strength, grounding Satoru in ways he often struggled to articulate.
âMama!â Satoshi called out excitedly as they entered the kitchen.
You turned, a warm smile spreading across your face as you wiped your hands on a towel. âThereâs my little troublemaker,â you said, reaching out to take Satoshi from Satoruâs arms. âWere you having fun in the garden?â
Satoshi nodded vigorously. âYes, Mama! We played chase, and I was winning!â
You chuckled, kissing his forehead. âIâm sure you were. Did you give the nurse-maid a hard time?â
Satoshi giggled, hiding his face on your shoulder. âMaybe a little.â
Satoru watched the interaction with a tender expression. âHeâs full of energy today,â he commented, stepping closer to place a hand on your back. âHow are you feeling?â
You glanced up at him, your eyes filled with understanding. âBetter, now that you two are here.â You looked back at Satoshi, brushing a stray lock of hair from his forehead. âWere you good for Papa?â
âYes, Mama,â Satoshi replied earnestly. âPapa said we should always listen to nurse-maid.â
You smiled, giving Satoru an appreciative look. âThatâs right. Itâs important to be careful.â
Satoru's gaze softened as he watched you interact with Satoshi. Despite the looming threat of Sukuna, these moments of normalcy and love filled him with a fierce determination to protect his family at all costs.
âDinner will be ready soon,â you said, turning back to the stove. âWhy donât you two wash up?â
Satoshi wriggled in your arms, eager to comply. âCome on, Papa!â he urged, pulling at Satoruâs hand.
âAlright, alright,â Satoru laughed, letting himself be led towards the bathroom. As he helped Satoshi wash his hands, he marveled at how such simple acts could bring so much joy.
After washing up, they returned to the kitchen where you had set the table. The meal was a humble but hearty spread, the kind that brought warmth and comfort to the soul. Satoru helped Satoshi into his chair before taking his own seat beside you.
As you all sat down to eat, Satoshiâs chatter filled the room, his stories animated and full of wonder. Satoru listened with rapt attention, his heart swelling with pride and love. He reached out to squeeze your hand under the table, a silent promise that he would do everything in his power to keep this happiness intact.
After dinner, you all settled in the living room. Satoshi, full and content, curled up next to you on the couch, his little head resting on your lap. Satoru sat beside you, his arm draped over your shoulders. The room was bathed in the soft glow of the evening light, casting a serene ambiance over the scene.
Satoru looked at you, his cerulean eyes filled with a mixture of love and determination. âWeâre going to be okay,â he said softly, his voice steady. âNo matter what happens, weâll face it together.â
You nodded, leaning into his embrace. âTogether,â you echoed, your hand resting gently on Satoshiâs back.
âPapa, letâs go!â Satoshiâs eyes sparkled with excitement, his little hand tugging at Satoruâs sleeve.
âHm? Where, little lordling?â Satoru asked, his voice warm with affection.
âThe koi pond!â Satoshi replied eagerly, his enthusiasm infectious.
Satoru looked at you, seeking your opinion. You nodded and offered him a warm smile. âWhy not? Itâs too nice today and itâs refreshing after a long play, donât you think?â
âI suppose.â Your husband nodded to you before turning his attention back to your son, his grin widening. âDoes my little lordling want to be carried by papa, or is he wanting to be a big boy and walk?â
Satoshi puffed out his chest with pride, his tiny hands clenched into determined fists. âIâll walk, Papa! Iâm a big boy!â
Satoru chuckled, patting Satoshiâs head affectionately. âThatâs my boy. Lead the way, then.â
The three of you made your way to the koi pond, the garden bathed in the golden glow of the moonshine The air was filled with the gentle rustle of leaves and the soft chirping of owls settling down for the evening. It was a tranquil scene, a stark contrast to the turbulent world outside your home.
The tranquil scene was framed by vibrant greenery and the soft murmur of a nearby stream. They were watching the koi fish swim lazily in the pond, their colorful scales glinting in the moonlight. Your son was immediately chattering excitedly about something heâd learned, his voice a melodic blend of enthusiasm and curiosity. Satoru listened intently, a fond smile playing on his lips.
Satoshi skipped ahead, his laughter ringing out like a melody. You and Satoru followed at a leisurely pace, hand in hand, savoring the peaceful moment.
As you reached the koi pond, Satoshi knelt by the water's edge, his eyes wide with wonder as he watched the colorful fish swim gracefully. âLook, Papa! The fish are so pretty!â
Satoru crouched beside him, pointing out different koi. âSee that one with the golden scales? Thatâs the king of the pond. And that one over there, with the red spots, is the queen.â
Satoshiâs eyes sparkled with delight as he listened intently to Satoruâs explanations. âCan we feed them, Papa?â
Satoru glanced at you, and you smiled, pulling out a small container of fish food from your pocket. âHere you go, Satoshi. Just a little bit at a time, okay?â
Satoshi nodded eagerly, carefully taking the container from you and sprinkling a small amount of food into the pond. The koi fish swarmed to the surface, their mouths opening and closing as they devoured the food. Satoshi giggled with delight, clapping his hands together.
âPapa, did you know that koi fish can live for over 200 years?â your son exclaimed, his eyes wide with wonder.
Satoru nodded, his gaze never leaving your sonâs animated face. âReally? Thatâs amazing, buddy. Imagine all the stories they could tell.â
Your son giggled, the sound pure and joyful. âMaybe they know magic, too!â
Satoruâs smile widened, his eyes sparkling with amusement. âMaybe they do. Maybe theyâre the guardians of secret underwater realms.â
You and Satoru stood back, watching your son with fond smiles. âHeâs growing up so fast.â you murmured, leaning into Satoruâs side. "Almost four already. He's not our baby anymore, hm?"
âHe still is, y'know?â Satoru hummed, his arm wrapping around your shoulders. âbut you're right. Soon, heâs going to grow up strong. Our beautiful boy, heâs always going to be loved, too.â
âThis is perfect,â you whispered, leaning your head against Satoruâs shoulder. The warmth of his body and the steady beat of his heart grounded you, reminding you of the strength you found in each other. âThis is everything we could ever want.
âIt is.â Satoru agreed, his voice low and filled with emotion. âEverything is more than I imagined.â
As the moon echoed below the horizon, casting a warm evening glow over the garden, the three of you stood by the koi pond, savoring the simple joys of family and the promise of a future filled with love and hope. All Gojo Satoru had to do was defeat Sukuna. All he had to do was get this over with. Then all will be over. Heâll get to be with you. Heâll get to be with Satoshi. You could be a family in peace.
Gojo Satoru wouldnât be the strongest then.
He could just be himself, he could just be this.
He could just be your husband, Satoshiâs father.
He can be a human being for the first time in his life.
âPapa, can we stay here forever?â your son asked suddenly, his eyes wide with innocence. Both of you look at him. âYou and mama, can we all be here together?â
Your son's innocent question hung in the air, a poignant reminder of the simplicity of childhood dreams. Satoru's gaze softened as he looked down at your son, his expression a mixture of tenderness and wistfulness. It was a question that held a weight far beyond its years, touching on the deepest desires of the heart.
For a moment, neither of you knew quite how to respond. The idea of staying in this tranquil moment forever, frozen in time with your family by your side, was undeniably tempting. Yet, reality loomed on the horizon, with its uncertainties and responsibilities.
Satoru exchanged a glance with you, silently communicating the depth of his emotions. There was a longing in his eyes, a yearning for a life free from the burdens of duty and danger. But beneath it all, there was a fierce determination to protect what mattered mostâyour family.
With a gentle smile, you reached out and ruffled your son's hair. "We'll always be together, Satoshi. No matter what happens, we'll find a way to stay together."
Satoru's hand found yours, his grip reassuring and firm. "That's right, little lordling. We'll always be here for you, no matter where life takes us."
Your son's eyes sparkled with happiness at your reassurance, his small hand reaching out to clasp both of yours. "Promise?"
You exchanged a knowing look with Satoru, his expression mirroring your own determination. "Promise," you both said in unison, sealing the vow with a tender smile
The soft glow of moonlight filtered through the curtains, casting gentle shadows across the room as you lay entwined with your husband and son. In the tranquil silence of the night, you could hear the steady rhythm of their breathing, a comforting reminder of the love that bound you together.
Wrapped in the warmth of each other's embrace, you felt a profound sense of contentment wash over you. It was in these quiet moments, surrounded by the ones you held most dear, that you found solace from the chaos of the outside world. Here, in the sanctuary of your shared love, you felt invincible, ready to face whatever challenges awaited you.
As you closed your eyes and drifted off to sleep, a serene smile graced your lips. In the arms of your beloved family, you knew that no matter what trials lay ahead, you would overcome them with unwavering strength and unwavering love.
âSatoru, my love.â you whispered, your hand entwined with his. âThank you for being here. For being with us.â
He turned to you, his eyes filled with love. âThereâs nowhere else Iâd rather be, darling. You and our son⌠youâre my everything.â
You smiled, feeling the warmth of his words seep into your heart. âAnd youâre ours. Always.â
The days turned into weeks, and the time for Satoruâs confrontation with Sukuna drew closer. But instead of being consumed by fear, you found strength in the love that surrounded you. The bond you shared with Satoru, the love you had for your son, and the support of your family gave you the courage to face whatever lay ahead.
On the last evening before Satoru was to leave with you, the three of you all gathered under the stars, the night sky a blanket of twinkling lights above you. Your son sat on Satoruâs lap, his head resting against his fatherâs chest.
âPapa, will you come back soon?â he asked, his voice small and filled with hope.
Satoru hugged him tightly, his eyes glistening with unshed tears. âIâll do everything I can to come back to you, buddy. You and your mama are my entire world. Papa canât live without any of you.â
Your son nodded, content with his fatherâs promise. âMe too, papa.â
âHm?â
âI canât live without you and mama.â Your son whispers to his father, wiping his fatherâs tears tenderly. Satoru blinked at his sonâs act. âSo papa has to do well and come back, with mama?â
In that tender moment, the depth of the bond between father and son was palpable. Satoru's heart swelled with emotion as he gazed into his son's earnest eyes, filled with a love so pure and unconditional it took his breath away. With a lump in his throat, he tightened his embrace, savoring the warmth of his son's small body pressed against his own.
His voice was thick with emotion as he replied, "I promise, buddy. I'll do everything in my power to come back to you and mama. You both mean the world to me, and I can't bear the thought of being without you."
Your son's response was equally heartfelt, his voice soft yet resolute. "I believe in you, papa. We'll be waiting for you, always."
You leaned against Satoru, drawing comfort from his presence. âI love you so much.â
He takes a breath. âI love you too. With everything in me.â
The night was quiet, filled with the gentle sounds of nature and the steady rhythm of your hearts beating in unison. As you closed your eyes, Satoru whispered a silent prayer, to any god listening above. If there ever was one. He prayed.
He wished that he could come home. He wished that he could be with you. He wished that he could watch Satoshi grow up. He wishes for that dream, for that hope, to come true.
Thatâs what all he could see as he lay there.
Shoko Ieiri looked him in the eyes as he struggled.
He smiles at her and then you, puddle full of tears.
âI love you.â He choked. âYou and Satoshi, I love you.â
From faraway Hida, a boy sits by the koi pond and prays.
âI hope that my mama and papa return to good health soon.â
flashback epilogue
The hospital room was cast in a gentle, dim light, creating a serene atmosphere that belied the intensity of the recent events. Satoru sat on the edge of the bed, his broad shoulders relaxed yet filled with a quiet strength as he cradled his newborn son, little Gojo Satoshi, against his chest.Â
With delicate care, he adjusted the soft blankets around little Satoshi, ensuring his newborn son was warm and comfortable. Despite the fatigue evident in his eyes, there was a palpable sense of wonder and tenderness in Satoru's touch as he looked down at the tiny bundle in his arms.
Meanwhile, you lay nearby, your form softened by the relief of finally finding respite after the long and arduous hours of labor. Your face, though etched with exhaustion, held a serene expression, a testament to the profound sense of fulfillment that accompanied the arrival of your precious child.
In that quiet moment, amidst the hushed sounds of the hospital room, the bond between parent and child blossomed, enveloping the room in an aura of warmth and love that seemed to transcend time itself. Satoru couldnât be happier to carry his whole world in his arms.
Gazing down at the tiny bundle in his arms, Satoru felt a surge of overwhelming love wash over him. With a soft smile, he leaned in close to Satoshi's ear, whispering words of welcome and affection.
"Welcome to the world, my beautiful boy." Satoru murmured, his voice filled with warmth. "Dâyou know what your name is? What it means?â
The little boy cooed at his fatherâs words.
Satoru laughed softly, looking at him lovingly.
He was already so attentive towards his father.
âMama and I decided together, yâknow? Your name just had to be Satoshi.â Satoru takes a deep breath, smiling as the baby cooes again. âYouâre satisfied, hm? But youâll like the spelling more, little man.â
Satoru could only feel overwhelmed by what he felt.
He could only feel nothing but joy, nothing but elation.
The dawn was breaking, as it always had before this moment.
But now, where his own dawn was in his hands, he just smiled.
âPapa chose the character for you. It means 'dawn'.â He whispered to him tenderly, almost like a little lullaby. âBecause you are the beginning of a new chapter for our family. You bring light and hope into our lives, just like the dawn brings a new day."
There was a louder coo this time around.
He was more than happy, Satoru thinks.
And he couldnât be happier than this moment.
This beautiful boy, his darling boy, his dawn.
Satoru pressed a gentle kiss to Satoshi's forehead, marveling at the precious life he held in his arms. "I love you so much, my son," he whispered, his heart overflowing with love and joy at the arrival of their little miracle. âMy little dawn.â

The Line Between Love and War 12
C H A P T E R 1 2: PTD D1 AND OVERSTIMULATION
âIt is said that the night sky is made up of tiny wishes that humans were never able to fulfill. That the stars only became bright by the fulfillment of those wishes. In your eyes, the stars that shine never seemed real, your childhood wishes dark and dim as you grow. But now, now you understand the twinkle in their eyes as they look down at you.â
Summary: Your experiences told you that soulmates were something you would never have the pleasure of having; something not given to you because of who you are, despite the soulmark that resides on your inner left wrist. During your solo trip to Los Angeles, you find out that you are more than capable, that your soulmates had been waiting for you for a long time, and would not be letting you go anytime soon.

Previously on The Line Between Love and War:
âAlright then. We well let Sejin and Seungho know. For now, I would appreciate if I could have some pre-concert kisses from my littlest mate.â Namjoon reached his arms out, pouting his lip a little knowing it would cause you to laugh at him.Â
You struggle to get yourself out of Hobi and Taehyungâs embrace, who noticeably tightened their grip once Namjoon opened his arms.Â
âHeyyyy, not nice!â You whine, finally pulling yourself away and falling into Namjoonâs arms.Â
âBut we want pre-concert kisses too!â Taehyung whined back, making you laugh again, hiding your face in Namjoonâs neck.
You could already hear Army beginning to enter the arena, voices and screams echoing as the pre-concert videos started to play on the big screens. Taehyung was sitting with you, having finished getting ready first. He was in the middle of making sure you were okay being in the security gates in front of everyone else. He knew how loud noises made you feel.Â
âDonât worry Tae! Iâve got the headphones that Yoongi gave me.â You smiled wide at him, hoping that would reassure your stressed-looking mate. It didnât reassure him at all though. He opened his mouth to say something else but was cut off by Seungho.
âCome on, Y/n. We need to get you to your seat before the boys start.â Seungho gives Taehyung an apologetic glance and nod before he starts to lead you out of the room. But before you can leave, you turn around and quickly give each of the boys a hug, not wanting to kiss them in case it ruins the make up the make-up artists spent so long on.Â
âGood luck! Iâm so excited!â You tell the last part to Seungho as you hold your hands up to your chest, your fists shaking in excitement.Â
You went from traveling about a week early to experience Los Angeles by yourself because you couldnât get any tickets to now having seven soulmates and being able to attend not just one, but all four of the PTD La concerts. Your entire life literally changed at the blink of any eye, or well, more like running into a wall.Â
âThis is your first concert, correct?â Seungho asked you, not remembering if youâve attended anything before.Â
âYes!â You exclaimed back, your fists still shaking as you make it to the stairs that will get you to the ground floor and into the security gates in front of the stage. There was a good maybe ten feet between the security gates for the floor seats and the stage where the boys would be performing.
Hobi explained it to you that you would have a seat in the section right in front of the edge of the stage, and that it wouldnât be close to the floor seats where Army is seated.Â
They were worried to say the least. While they loved Army, and trusted them with you, they also knew there were some âfansâ who were not happy that they found their last soulmate, and that it wasnât any of them. They wanted you to be safe, which was why they wanted you up with their family in the box. Obviously, due to your fear of heights, they had to figure something else out, wanting you to experience their concert like an Army.Â
Seungho escorts you to the seat set aside but you donât sit down, to excited and pumped up. You stood watching the stage, taking everything in. It seemed way different than it did earlier before sound check. The entire atmosphere was different. You could feel the energy and excitement of every single Army coming in and finding their seats. Some even running down to the 100âs section.Â
What caught your eye though was the people who had soundcheck coming back down to the floor section, all running towards you. You startled, Seungho moving directly in front of you once he caught the movement of the crowd. You held onto his arm before letting go just as quickly, not knowing if he was comfortable with your touch.Â
Despite your aversion to touch, you felt safe with him; you just didnât know if he also had an aversion to touch and you didnât want to make him uncomfortable.Â
However, a single, subtle nod from him let you know your actions were okay, holding onto his arm again as you try to peak over or around his broad shoulders to see the group of Armies still running your way. You didnât know if it was because you were directly in front of the stage or what, but seeing a group of men and women running towards you scared the crap out of you.
Now you understand how celebrities feel when fans spot them out and about, without security with them.Â
âStay behind me please, Y/n.â Seungho told you, feeling you trying to peek around him. He had a feeling they were rushing for you, trying to get close to the barrier in front of you. He had been watching your social media, following the discussions and posts about you. You were well liked by a lot of people, and also not so liked by some. He didnât know which it was coming for you tonight, and he didnât like it.Â
You could hear your name being called; pictures being taken of you. It was weird and seemed a bit unreal, just like earlier when you did the Instagram live. You could feel some other members of the boysâ security team moving to help Seungho.
âSeungho, I think they are just excited. I donât think theyâll hurt me. I have you to help protect me. Plus, there is about five feet between my seat and the barrier.â You were not going to lie, you were freaking out. But you didnât want Seungho or the boys to have to worry about you the entire time, and if Seungho continued to try and hide you from Army, you knew that would happen.Â
He looked back at you, and seeing how serious you were, only moved a couple inches to the left, still in front of you but not necessarily hiding you. Taking a deep breath, and trying to hide your nervous stimming, you looked at Army.Â
âHi guys! Please enjoy the concert! The boys have worked super hard and are so excited to see you guys again.â You spoke loudly, not wanting to yell in Seunghoâs ears as he still stood close.Â
âY/n! What song are you excited for?â
âY/n! Have you completed the bond yet?â
âWho is your bias?â
You ignored the second question, and the others like it that were being yelled your way, instead, you tried to answer some of the questions, but didnât want to make the night about yourself. This night was about the boys, not you.Â
âPlease guys, the concert is about to start!â You decided to move back to your seat and not stand in front of the barrier anymore.Â
You were now actively stimming, your body trying to help you feel more comfortable with the attention and new experiences. Your fists were clenched in front of you, shaking fast back and forth. It was a stim youâve been doing since you were a kid, something you did when you got really excited or happy. You tried not to, despite how much you needed to, because you always felt embarrassed when doing that particular stim. You had been made fun of before for doing it, so instead you rocked your body forwards and backwards slowly.Â
It took a couple more minutes before you could hear the intro starting, music slowly becoming louder until the boys came on stage from below. It also took the same amount of time for you to become completely overwhelmed and overstimulated. Despite your headphones, the music was loud and seemed to be louder than the screams behind you. The lights were flashing and the movement of the boys on stage had you practically shutting down. The stares you could feel on your back didnât help, either.
You tried hard not to though, even though you know you needed it. Your boys needed this more. This was the first concert for them since the pandemic started and the went into the army. You knew they were happy being back on stage after so long and didnât want to ruin anything for them. You wanted them to see you happy and not having any issues. You didnât want them to worry.Â
You could feel the sting from your nails digging into your palm as you clenched your hands. Your voice gone as you tried to show some kind of emotion resembling happiness or awe on your face. You didnât need Seungho trying to bring you back into the dressing room and alerting everyone that something was wrong.Â
So, you spent the rest of the concert rocking back and forth and mouthing along to all the songs the boys sang. Your nails were practically stuck in your palm and you were stuck in your head. You could tell the cord connecting your mouth and brain wasnât connected anymore and didnât know when it would again.
You just wanted Jungkook to hold you and rub your back again but figured you probably wouldnât get that tonight. They would probably be too pumped up with adrenal after the concert to do anything other than want to celebrate with army like normal.Â
You could probably get away with cuddling up to Yoongiâs sweatshirt again as you laid in your shared bed. You didnât want to bother them when they shared this excitement and happiness with army after so long. The last thing you wanted was to be a burden.Â
-*-*-
Despite being completely overstimulated, you thought the concert was amazing. You donât think you would go to one again, but you could see why so many people always praised your soulmatesâ concerts and performance skills.Â
You waited in the dressing room as the last notes of the last song play out throughout the stadium speakers. Seungho had thought it a safety issue to exit with the rest of army to try and make it backstage. So, he had taken you back during the second to last song.Â
You still havenât spoken a word, and Seungho could tell something was wrong. Your facial expression was vacant and it seemed as though your eyes were glazed over as you stared down at the small table in front of you. He was worried.Â
You almost didnât notice the arrival of your soulmates, mind gone to the stimulation you felt.Â
âHey baby! Did you have fun?â Jin came up and sat next to you on the loveseat, securing the spot next to you before anyone else. It was a couple of hours until his birthday and he was feeling the excitement of having his birthday with his finally complete soulbond group.Â
But once he saw you, zoned out and not even registering their entrance, he had a feeling of what was going on. He was reminded of the closet incidence, your wide eyes glazed and unable to track what was going on. He moved in front of you, kneeling down so he could catch your eye.Â
âBaby?â Jin tried, but you were gone. He now had the attention of the others, and Taehyung and Yoongi made it over first.Â
âWhat should we do? Should we hold her like last time?â Taehyung asked, remembering how Jungkook held you in his arms and how the physical contact helped bring you back.Â
âHere, let me try something.â Namjoon took control, switching places with Jin who now sat back next to you. Their movement didnât phase you, your eyes still glazed over.Â
Namjoon moved slowly, just in case you came back to, and moved so his palm was cupping your cheek. At his touch, your eyes became focused again and he could see how truly tired you were.Â
âHi baby girl. Are you okay?â He knew you werenât but he still needed to know if something was physically wrong, and you seemed to know his intention as you shook your head no. At this response, they all knew you were nonverbal; Jimin, Jungkook and Taehyung all watching from the back as their hyungs take over the situation.Â
âHow about we go back to the hotel, and have a relaxing night, hmm?â Namjoon asks but stops as you shake your head, grabbing tightly to his forearm. His face scrunched up in concern, wondering what was going on through your head.Â
You swallow your spit, trying your hardest to push words through your lips, only for them to keep getting caught in the back of your throat. Finally, you manage to push through one word, hoping they understand what you mean.Â
âCelebrate.â You word is raspy, as if you had a bad cold recently.Â
They had just gotten back from the military only months ago, managed to plan two weekends worth of content and concerts for Army, and as only a fan could know, they usually celebrated the concert afterwards with a live. You didnât want that taken away from Army, and you didnât want the boys to break a tradition just because you got overstimulated. It didnât seem fair in any way.Â
You would be fine; you always were before. Yeah, it might take time, but you would be fine.Â
Army needed the boys more than you right now.Â
âWhat do you mean baby?â Jimin asked from behind Hobi, eyes narrowed in confusion as he watches your expression.Â
You knew you couldnât push out another word, so you grabbed Namjoonâs palm from your cheek and held it flat in front of you, using your pointer finger you traced the word Army on his palm, hoping he would get it. You even trace it in Hangul when he didnât get it in English.Â
âYou want us to celebrate with Army?â Namjoon finally realizes what you were trying to say, nodding his head as it clicks.Â
You nod your head in response but stop once you see the look on your soulmates faces. You could tell they didnât understand why you were asking them that. Why you wanted them to celebrate with army even when you werenât doing good.Â
So, you pull out the big guns, something Jimin taught you when Jin kept telling you no more ice cream. Jimin said it would bring out an immediate âyesâ from the hyungs every time, so you tried it.
You pulled out the puppy dog eyes and the lip pout.Â
An immediate round of groans sounded throughout the room, every single one of your soulmates looked away from you, trying not to be drawn in by your expression.Â
To seal the deal, you brought your hands together, folded in a way that everyone usually added with pleading words, but you couldnât speak right now, so you held your clenched hands up close to your face.Â
Eventually, Jin was the one who folded.Â
âAlright baby! But we have some conditions.â He raised an eyebrow at you as you turned to face him.Â
âWeâll do the live as long as you are there with us, so we can see you and make sure youâre okay. Youâre going to drink some water, and let one of us hold you until the live, because that helped you a lot last time.â You knew they were talking about the last time you got too overstimulated, so you agreed.Â
Maybe selfishly, though, you agreed to the terms. You kind of just wanted to be cocooned in like a little safety nest as you watched the boys do their live, maybe covered in one of their shirts or sweaters again. They always made you feel safe and comfortable and were slowly becoming a part of your collection of safe clothing.Â
âOkay, boys, lets grab our things so we can get back to the hotel. Namjoon, why donât you grab out little soulmate and go get into the car, weâll grab your things.â Jin clapped his hands together after moving the night along, wanting to get back to the hotel.Â
It didnât take but a couple seconds for Namjoon to pick you up, his hands moving under your thighs and holding you to him so you were chest to chest.Â
âCome here baby. Letâs go.â You looked around for your backpack, only to see Seungho handing it off to Jungkook who had deemed your backpack his responsibility. You canât fight him for carrying you this time, exhaustion finally hitting you as you tuck your head into the curve of your soulmateâs neck.Â
It was a good thing too, as you didnât realize some fans had figured out where the boysâ vans were and had been waiting outside for you all to leave, phones at the ready to take pictures and videos. This also meant that it would take longer to get back to the hotel, as some fans loved trying to follow the boys to figure out where you all were staying.Â
One of Namjoonâs hands moved from your holding your thigh to covering your face, protecting you in what he considers a vulnerable moment. He walked faster, Sejin moving with him so he could open the door for you both before having a word with one of the drivers.Â
Even as you get into the car, and Namjoonâs sits down, he still holds you on his lap, crossing his arms behind your back so you were practically glued to his chest. He moved his left hand lower, almost touching your butt as he moves his hand under your shirt, making contact with your back and begins rubbing his hand up and down your back. He knew this helped you last time and it was one of the only things he had to go on right now as far as helping you out of your shut down.Â
You both wait patiently for your other soulmates, time passing slowly as you turn your head and watch fans take pictures of the van. You knew they couldnât get pictures of you through the tinted windows, but you still felt a little vulnerable. You were unable to protect yourself in anyway, nonverbal and in the middle of a shutdown, and it was a little daunting.Â
You turned your head back into Namjoonâs neck, your head resting against his chest as you watch the boys all begin to make their way quickly to the vans. Jungkook, Hobi, and Yoongi made their way into your van, while the others went into the first one.Â
âOkay, so Sejin is going to separate our vans, each going a separate way to make it back to the hotel so we arenât followed. We also have three deco vans waiting to draw confusion.â Yoongiâs voice was raspy and slow from the concert and his own emotions.Â
He, along with the others were feeling a lot of emotions from finally being able to perform at a concert for Army, but also watching you shut down from the very same concert. It was a lot.Â
âHow is she?â Jungkook asks quietly.Â
Out of all your soulmates, Jungkook seems to have taken on most of the responsibility for your care and well-being on himself. He finally has a soulmate younger than him, that can rely on him and that he can provide for. So, for him, he has put the responsibility on his own shoulders, something his soulmates have already talked to him about.Â
âIâm okay.âÂ
You were. You had just been relishing in Namjoonâs touch and had felt the connection build again between your brain and mouth. You still werenât used to being taken care of, to mean something to other people, and you knew it would take a while but you loved the way they worried about you, the way they cared for you.Â
It was the same way you cared for them.Â
-*-*-
It had taken you over an hour to make it back to the hotel. There had been several vehicles trying to follow you, the final car getting lost at a traffic light about fifteen minutes ago. To be safe, the driver kept driving around.Â
Your van had been the last to make it back to the hotel, and when you go to the room, a small bundle of blankets and pillows, along with some of the boysâ sweaters had been made into a little nest for you by the far wall close to the kitchen. You were in perfect view of the boys as the couches and chairs had been rearranged so they could all be in view of the camera.Â
When Namjoon let you down, a bundle of clothes had been shoved into your hand as Jimin led you to your shared room with Yoongi and Jin to change. Jimin walked into the bathroom while you changed into a pair of your comfy leggings and one of Taehyungâs shirts.Â
After doing your skincare for you, wanting you to feel nice and clean while you waited for them to be finished, Jimin helped you back into the living room and into your small nest, bundling Jin and Jungkookâs sweater around you while you watched the boys set up snacks and drinks on the coffee table.Â
âOkay, now, donât move.â Jimin pointed his finger at you, his face scrunching playfully as he tries to make you smile. And it works, a small giggle making its way out of your mouth catching the attention of your soulmates.Â
âHere,â he pulls your phone out of his back pocket, pulling up the live on it before handing it to you. âKeep an eye out for questions you think we should answer, okay baby?â He asks you, wanting you to still be involved in their tradition with Army. While he would rather you be seated with them on the couch, he knows itâs not what you need right now.Â
âI will, Minnie.â You nod and smile tiredly at his request. He smiles back, kissing you softly before pulling back entirely, Jungkook taking his place with a bottle of water for you. He stays quiet, kissing your forehead before moving to sit with Hobi and Joon on the couch.Â
You watch them as the live starts, hundreds of questions showing up on the screen as thousands of viewers turn into millions. At first a lot of the questions are about you, why Namjoon was seen carrying you out of the venue and some were even asking why you stayed seated the entire concert.Â
The boys said a simple response to questions about you. They agreed that they wanted to stop the rumors of any health issues or problems while they could, especially after Namjoon was seen carrying you out.Â
âY/n is doing okay and is resting here with us after a long and overstimulating day. She had a lot of new experiences and is in the middle of processing them.â Namjoon spoke in his leader voice, glancing at you for a few seconds as he speaks.Â
The questions and comments continue, but this time mainly about the boys and the concerts and their upcoming plans. You even commented a few things, trying to remember what it felt like to be Army, commenting âI love youâ and hoping they would see it.Â
You did that the entire time, finding cute little comments and even yelling out âYoongi Marry Meâ every time you saw it which did not amuse your cute soulmate who only looked your way while the others laughed every time. You also drank your entire bottled water, knowing that was one of the promises you made to Jin.Â
And in the end, once the live was finished, he was the first to go to you, picking you up out of your little nest and into his arms. You were feeling a lot better, no longer overstimulated due to your soulmates care.Â
âHow are you feeling, baby?â You could hear the concern in his voice.Â
âIâm doing a lot better! You all always seem to know what to do.â You hug him tightly, kissing his jaw in a show of thanks.Â
âWell, I bought tickets for an amusement park for tonight for us. Do you think you might be up for it?â Jin couldnât even finish his question before you were squealing in his ear, jumping from his hold and rushing to your shared room.Â
âI guess that is a yes.â He told Yoongi and Taehyung who were staring at Jin, seeing the entire thing before walking off to the room.Â
Jimin and Jungkook were already in the room, helping you pick out a matching outfit with Jin, who was going in a pair of his overalls and a white shirt. He wanted you all to match, but you and Jimin were the only ones who currently had a pair of overalls to wear.Â
You were excited, jumping in your seat as you waited for everyone else to get ready to go. You loved the rides and playing the games but you think your favorite was the food. You never really went to the fair often, which was as close to an amusement park as you had gotten, your mother thinking going to a big field full of people of all walks of life below her standing.Â
But you loved it and couldnât wait to experience it with your soulmates.Â

// hello, neighbor
modern day arthur morgan x female reader. mdni. voyeurism (oops), masturbation (m & f). reader is in college. brought to you by: my phone! again!
âwith the blinds open?â
â...with the blinds open.â
a two-way confessional on the campus plaza turns into a harsh spotlight the second the admission leaves your lips, though you suspect that the heat would have driven you down this road at some point.
the next page you turn in your textbook is a little harsher than necessary, and you take the slight tearing noise as a sign to shut it. you could hardly focus enough to digest it, anyway. you turn to your friend, their work long since abandoned next to the half-empty bottle of soda gone flat.
"i mean," and you pause, trying to build your next sentences with the utmost care. "it doesn't seem like he's got malicious intent. he's...he's a nice guy, you know?"
"did you come to that conclusion before or after you caught him jacking off with the blinds open?"
before, without a doubt. you're not sure you can bring yourself to dislike someone who'd helped muscle your furniture up four flights of narrow stairs.
running into arthur morgan on the street that day had been the closest you've come to justice in a while. he hadnât made an offer to helpâjust pulled the cardboard boxes right from your arms and told you to point him in the direction of your apartment door, and youâd said yes, because the shame of knowing heâd seen you struggle for the last hour had been too much to bear.
after the first trip up, your reprieve turned to torture. not because of the tremor in your thighs, or the burn in your lungs, but something far more sinister: the trail of hair dipping into the waistband of his jeans. the rivulets of sweat dotting the back of his neck. the flex of his back each time his grip shifts to accommodate the weight of the boxes.
his cheeks, flushed with a pretty scarlet, had deteriorated any semblance of self-preservation you could ever buy off of amazon (pepper spray was getting rather expensive), and the lopsided smile heâd given youâa meek little thingânearly sent the glass of lemonade youâd poured for him sliding to the floor.
it was embarrassing. and more importantly, pathetic. but the only feeling with the balls to surmount your shame is that eager throb of unadulterated lust.
itâd only grown worse once youâd started pestering him with questions. turns out, he lived in the apartment right across the street from yours.
âsâonly temporary, though. just till an acquaintance of mine gets back from overseas.â
temporary. that was fine. though, you do feel a little uncomfortable at the thought of fucking him in someone elseâs apartment. not that you were planning on it. butâŚhis âacquaintanceâ would have to have some heavy pockets though, right? so you find out one relatively non-invasive question later that arthur actually worked as a security guardâbecause of course he does.
you think it might have to do with the way his fingers drum against the cold countertop as he speaks. the sag of his t-shirt collar doesnât help much either. but some harebrained part of you convinces your synapses to fire just enough to ask for his number.
to help withâŚappliances.
it only hits you after he leaves that working in security didnât mean shit when it came down to appliance repairs, but you thank your lucky stars arthur was nice enough to hand over his number anyways.
from there itâs straightforward.
or, it should have been.
flirting doesnât exactly fall under your area of expertise, but you do know how to observe. not stalkâthat would be weird.
observe and observe only. just until you can work up the nerve to talk to him again.
arthur couldnât seem to close the blinds, which made it a little easier. he was a creature of habit: heâd leave in the early morning, returning just after the sun sends the last of its rays to cascade down the walls of the building. he always seemed to return more weary than the day before, which did at least put your envy of the condominium complex to rest.
but you werenât quite sure just what you were getting into until around two weeks after your move in.
your apartment is submerged in darkness when you finally manage to jiggle the key into the lock. the only source of light comes from the warm glow of arthurâs apartment, the sun to the moon of your window, spilling out over your desk and onto the floor.
changing out of your clothes is a quick and efficient affair, as per usual; an oversized shirt and underwear are all you can manage with the faulty air conditioning. youâre about to shut your blinds when you catch familiar skin.
your pulse is tapping out a strange rhythm in your throat.
no. he couldnât be, could he? but that definitely wasâ
you clap a hand over your mouth with a shiver. creep just close enough to the edge of your window to avoid being spotted without losing your vantage point.
arthur is splayed across the couch, one leg draped over the side while the other remains bent on the cushions. you can see how youâd nearly missed itâhe looks strangely relaxed.
but youâve committed that flush in his cheekbones to memory. the rapid rise and fall of his chest. his eyes are pinched shut, and you trace down the length of his body to where his hand works in languid strokes over his cock.
oh god.
this was wrong on so many levels. but you canât help the way your thighs rub together, or the pulsating heat of your cunt.
you slide your hand away from your mouth, snaking it lower and lower till youâre pushing aside the gusset of your panties, paying no attention to the angle of your wrist. your fingers find you already wet, clit throbbing with assured interest.
a moan snakes its way out of you as you follow the pace of arthurâs hand. heâs still pumping lazily on the couch, but his hips have begun to undulate in slow circles, punctuated by the occasional jerk.
fuck, this was getting bad. but you follow his lead, stopping when he stops, exhaling when he exhales, and there comes a point when mirroring him is no longer a conscious effort. a lock of hair falls over his sweaty forehead and you nearly cry; youâd have been able to brush it aside in a heartbeat. it only reminds you of how long itâs been since youâve been touched by someone else like this.
you reach a fever pitch when the two of you begin to increase the pace, and you have to brace a hand against your desk for support. your eyes havenât left arthur once. wouldnât leave even after you catch that scrunch of his crooked nose, the tightening of his fist. but your eyes flutter when his head tips back, and his mouth falls open (so wide you can almost hear him in your ears), and shit, you think youâll be right there with himâ
âuntil fingers snap in front of your face.
you open your eyes. turn your head.
"hey, you good? you're drooling."

Life with Fyodor as your lover/s/o headcanons
Hello love, thank you very much for the request and Iâm genuinely so sorry because it took me so long to answer it!â¤ď¸
I took it upon myself to write headcanons and a specific scenario because you had to wait so long.â¤ď¸
I hope you enjoy it nonetheless.â¤ď¸
+ The scenario I wrote for you is => HERE
Fyodor x ideal type fem!reader, yandere tendencies, unhealthy behaviour, lovesick!reader, husband!Fyodor, wife!reader, etc.
ââââââââââââââ
F Y O D O R D O S T O E V S K Y
FYODORâS LIFE WITH HIS LOVER
Life with Fyodor is bound to be peaceful, harmonious, and serene.
However, it is also likely to be lonely, as long as Fyodor is focused on reaching his end goal.
It is essential for you to have your own interests and activities to pass the time because Fyodor won't be around all the time.
He has taken upon himself a great responsibility and goal, and he expects you to understand and cherish this when he steps down for you, declaring his undying love by showing you his vulnerability.
Accepting this means being comfortable with being by yourself for weeks, sometimes even months.
He will keep you in a vast mansion, circled by seemingly unending fields and private land, surrounded by thousands of security guards and cameras.
Only those he has brainwashed will be near you, as he doesn't trust anyone else.
Remember when Dazai said he doesn't trust anyone he can't manipulate? This rings very true for Fyodor.
Morally, you need to be at peace with his methods of ensuring your security. Beyond that, having a rich inner life is crucial to avoid boredom.
Fyodor would not like to see you fall into a depressive episode; he wants you to be joyous, always smiling prettily at him.
In his absence, you might enjoy indoor activities such as listening to music, reading, painting, or baking.
When he returns, he expects you to welcome him with open arms and an open heart. When he is there, you both feel complete.
You would spend intimate moments together, whether under the sheets, against the wall, or in the bathtub.
You would relax, read, and have meaningful, heartfelt conversations.
He would play the cello for you, his eyes meeting yours now and then, a warm and fuzzy feeling forming in his very soul as he meets your adoring, loving, almost lovesick gaze.
He would explain various topics you wish to hear about, and you would share in these discussions deeply.
Fyodor would love to taste your cooking, missing the scent of your homemade meals whenever he is away.
Contrary to what one might think, I believe Fyodor is prone to touchiness when truly, utterly in love. Not a clingy or overwhelming touchiness like Dazai or Nikolai, but a soft, gentle, heartfelt, and thoughtful touchiness. Sometimes even mildly mocking or wildly teasing.
As his partner and wife, you would hear his amused, deep, and intense chuckle now and then.
You would genuinely make him laugh and feel carefree in rare moments, moments he would deeply cherish until the day he dies.
Your life would become fuller when you finally have a baby (or babies).
You would become a loving mother, tending to your children and giving them the love they deserve.
You would compensate for Fyodor's occasional absence, but he would visit as often as his situation allows.
And when he reaches his goal, everything will be perfect.
He would rewrite reality to make his idealistic world worthy of God, including living as a loving husband and father, serving God as intended. â¤ď¸

Konig x reader x Ghost
Credits to @kitkattzz for helping
When Konig and y/n first came across each other, Konig became completely possessive over her, following her on every mission she was assigned to, making sure she was nowhere near any other guy, especially ghost. Still, he never talked to y/n outside of missions.
y/n knows of this and is pissed off with Konig about Ghost, she doesnât know Konig personally but heâs doing all of this to piss her off, she only interacted with him on missions, and sometimes he would tease her, or jokingly flirt with her, but that was it.
While everyone was planning to go to bed, y/n went straight to konigs room to confront him about his actions recently, her heart slightly skipping beats the closer she got to his room, now she was standing outside his door, her heart starting to beat faster now. she was about to knock when the door suddenly opened, Konig, standing there towering over her, Konig saw y/n, he started to smirk at her, but y/n was not having it.
âOkay, I need to talk to you,â y/n said to Konig, likely knowing what she was going to ask him, he said to her in a confused yet teasing tone âWhat are you talking about?â pissed off at konigs delusion, she told him in pissed off tone âthe weird obsession you have with me, like why the hell are you always with me on missions and chasing away my teammate, especially ghost, like what the fuck is your issue?â Konig, a little surprised at the sudden verbal aggressiveness, leans in and tells her âCome on now sweetheart, we both know that ghost has a very obvious thing for you.â
She crosses her arms looking up at him âWhat are you talking about?â eyeing him curiously. âI think you know what Iâm talking about when. âCome on y/n you canât be this innocentâ Konig said looking at her up and down. She slightly bit her lip âBut why would he be jealous it just doesnât make any sense!?â.Â
Konig leans down a bit to whisper slowly âHave you not seen that man eyeing you down, looking at you like a defenseless bunny tâ Y/nâs e/c eyes quickly focus on Konigâs eyes when he mentions Ghost. her breath hitch while her mind fumbled thinking about all the close events she had with him
A few weeks ago they were on a mission with Task Force 141. They were taking a chopper to the next military base. Y/n was sitting next to Ghost since there was no more room left while Konig was sitting across from y/n his legs man spread open and his board back leaning against the wall crossing his arms against his chest tightly making him look bigger than he already was.Â
y/n felt a dead stare at his she looked up from his lap seeing Konig coldly eyeing her down. While ghost leg would casually brush against her legs sending shivers down her spine. His hands messing around with his knife in his hand, taking some side glance at her even now and then, the echo blade casually making noise ever so often.
Ghost looks up from his knife, his eyes wandering to what's Konig looking at. Realizing y/n. Ghost smirks under his mask knowing how controlling Konig can get from y/n. Especially when he caught y/n ghost underneath not that long ago in his office, his mind not getting over how she moaned his name over and over until Konig walked in ruining his moment. (that's a story for another time).
Ghost thought of a nice way of getting Konig back. He stops messing with his knife, putting it back in his vest pocket and securing it. After he guides her military glove to her lower thigh. She flinched feeling the pressure on her head looking up away from her lap to his mask. âGhost-t right now?â she whispered. Ghost lowered her head leaning closer to her âWhy not itâs not like weâre doing something wrongâ eyeing her down, his hand sliding to her upper thigh now.
Y/n gasped slightly her body started to squirm a bit he knew how much his touch worked her up. Konig saw what was happeningâs eyes quickly went to ghost warning him. Ghost glazes to Konig and smirks underneath his mask seeing how mad Konig is. His hand slides up close to her sweet spot and starts rubbing her in slow circles.
Y/n body started squirming more she bit down on her lip trying not to make a noise. Her hands quickly latch on ghostâs large arm as he continues to tease her. âGhost-tâ Her breath hitched trying to look anywhere but ghost eyeing her down and konig angry glaze. His hand slid up now circling faster on her sweet spot, her legs shaking feeling the pressure unraveling her.
She couldnât stop her mouth from moaning. Konigâs large body quickly stands up in rage and walked over âYou fucking-âBefore he could finish in his deep German accent the chopper landed, and Konig got hold of the handlebar.
Ghost stops from the subtle landing. Y/n quickly removed ghostâs large hand. And walk out quickly trying to get away from the both of them. Her mind fumbles realizing the deep shit she is now in

[D]ebt and indebtedness [...] produc[e] forms of spatial enclosure [imprisonment] that do not rely on the spectacular [singular moments of blatant literal physical violence] but are, rather, achieved through temporal openings and foreclosures. To be clear, this frame does not obscure the many forms of carceral enclosure [...]: the prison, the checkpoint, the security wall. Historically, enclosure is understood as the privatization of land. But Wang extends the concept of enclosure to encompass time. Wang demonstrates that [...] mobility is policed through [...] an apparatus of punishment that solicits time as the form of spatial enclosure. [...]
[D]ebilitating infrastructures turn able bodies into a range of disabled bodies. [...] [C]heckpoints [...]; administrative bureaucratic apparatuses that stall and foreclose travel, mobility for work, [...] the capacity to move and change residences - baroque processes to apply for permits to travel [...], absence of public services such as postal delivery [...]; and finally [...] denial of resolution, suspension in the space of the indefinite [...]. In fact, slow death itself is literalized as the slowing down of life [...]. [Land] itself becomes simultaneously bigger - because it takes so long to get anywhere - and smaller, as transit becomes arduous [...] where it is so difficult to travel between areas without permits and identifications. Movement is suffocated. Distance is stretched and manipulated to create an entire population with mobility impairments. And yet space is shrunken, as people are held in place, rarely able to move far. [...]
---
Time itself is held hostage.
This is the slow aspect of slow death: slow death can entail a really slow life, too, a life that demands constant calibration of different speeds and the relation of speed to space. [...]
The suspended state of the indefinite, of waiting and waiting (it) out, wreaks multigenerational psychological and physical havoc. [...]
Time thus is the meter of power; it is one form that physical enclosure takes on. The cordoning of time through space contributes to an overall âlack of jurisdiction over the function of oneâs own sensesâ (Schuller 2018: 74) endemic to the operation of colonial rule [...]. [T]his process entails several modes of temporal differentiation: withholding futurity, making impossible anything but a slowed (down) life, and immobilizing the body [...]. Julie Peteet (2008) calls the extraction of nonlabor time âstealing timeâ [...]. [T]he extraction of time attempts to produce a depleted and therefore compliant population so beholden to the logistics of the everyday that forms of connectivity, communing, and collective resistance are thwarted. The extraction of time functions as the transfer of âvital energyâ [...], an extraction that recapitulates a long colonial history of mining bodies for their potentiality. [...]
Checkpoints ensure one is never sure of reaching work on time.
Fear of not getting to work then adds to the labor of getting to work; the checkpoints affectively expand labor time [...].
Bodies in line at checkpoints [...] [experience] the fractalizing of the emotive, cognitive, physiological capacities of bodies [...]. Itâs not just that bodies are too tired to resist but that the experience of the âconstant state of uncertaintyâ becomes the condition of being. [...]

at last, where doing it man where MAKING THIS HAPPEN
cringes jakehal fic rec list
just so were clear: some of the fics are unfinished, and havent been updated in a while. leaving a comment to let the author know that youre reading and youre enjoying it is fine, but dont be a bag of dicks and harass them over when the new chapter will be up. have some decency or else ill be inside your walls.
Heart by fawn_writes || rated T || 1/1 || 663 words - man its so good. short and sweet. jake comes by to witness the construction of hals new body while also reminiscing about the times he fought brobot and his untimely demise. a good sparkling of body worship. "Everything will be normal. Theyâll manage to keep it normal. After all, Jake has enough of his own heart to share." - fuck, that lines so effervescent.
What he needs by fawn_writes || rated M || 1/1 || 1259 words - another banger from the same author. they be doing the horizontal tango, but nothings too graphic. healthy serving of body worship from jakes perspective, as well as his internal struggle with his apparent robotic attraction.
Dead Weight by squirtgunplay || rated M || 5/9 || 27337 words - oh that fic. oh my god. love me some zombie apocalypse au with existential horror sprinkled on top. hal and dirk are twins but with a twist in this one. theres mystery. theres injuries that make you incapable of moving around. theres ship of theseus discussion. its nourishing. its beautiful. jake and hals banter in this one is fucking amazing, and the author captures their characters so well. the relationship between hal and dirk is also very fucking good and heartwrenching and just ugh. stellar writing, the forth wall break made me laugh out loud, hal gets called a security camera (derogatory). theres graphic depictions of violence, so beware of the tags.
Tennessee Whiskey & You by MistLaFey || rated T || 5/? || 12217 words - major character death and graphic depictions of violence tagged, so beware and read the tags. no-sburb au. dirk fucking dies (its in the fic description so i dont feel like its a spoiler). beautiful exploration of grief, unhealthy coping mechanisms and trying to get back into the normal life when theres a big part of it suddenly missing. hal and dirk are twins. jake is not doing well. hal is also not doing well, but pretending he is. its heartbreaking and some scenes made my chest hurt. very good fic and i dont understand why it doesnt get more love. it deserves it. go read it, even just for the funeral scene, i got teary-eyed over it.
seconds by squirtgunplay || rated E || 2/2 || 18698 words - graphic depictions of violence and its no joke, presidential alert the girls are fightinnn!! but its also so funny and the authors so funny and its also really hot! no sburb au, hals a human and dirks twin. he gets kidnapped by a craigslist hitman jake who mistakes him for dirk. the banter is top game in this one. hal cant keep his mouth shut even in life or death situation. jakes a dork, but hes a deadly dork, and also cant keep his mouth shut about his personal problems. theres fistfighting and knifethrowing and hal gets a weapon put to his head at least twice and he thinks its pretty damn hot. theres banging in second chapter. what more can i say to sell you on this one. the characters are on point, the action is tense but its also written in a cheeky, fun way, smut is good, a npc gets unsubscribed from life. amazing fic, 10/10, will read it again.
I Think Therefore I AR by Taxi_Boy || rated T || 25/? || 30417 words - im saving the best for last. major character death. hal has to start the game and get his friends into the medium while dirk is missing, while also pretending to be dirk as to not raise their suspicions. im not going to say anymore about the plot, you just have to go and read the fic. genuinely my favourite jakehal - and homestuck in general - fic of all time. i love caliborn in this one. i cant wait to see what the author has cooked up for us in the future. its plainly genious.
these are only ao3 fics as i have no clue how tf you search other fanfic sites for a specific ship, but if you have any other recommendations feel free to add them onto this post! we all need some good jakehal fic recs in these trying times!

and love is a kaleidoscope â gojo satoru.
âI donât need more than that. Even if it isn't enough, Iâll tell you it's enough.â he said softly, his eyes searching your face as if trying to memorize every detail. âI just⌠I miss you.â The words hung in the air between you, heavy and loaded with the things you both werenât saying. You wanted to tell him you missed him too, that you hated the distance between you, but the missions, the constant fightâit had become a wall between you, one that you didnât know how to tear down. âI miss you too.â you finally admitted, your voice small and tired. âBut that doesnât change anything.â
WARNING/S: pre-hidden inventory arc, post hidden inventory arc, domesticity, fluff, angst, trauma, implied death, violence, romance, hurt/comfort, character death depiction of death, depictions of loss and depression, depiction of blood, depiction of killing, depiction of suffering, depiction of anxiety, mention of death, mention of grief, profanity, family drama;
WORDS: 8.5k words.
NOTE: i feel like every time i ponder if genmei (you) is bisexual or pansexual, i go in the drawing board and think that really doesn't matter. yuki and you go way back, you had something to do with how she managed to get away with not being consumed by tengen. and you were yuki's first love, i supposed. but that's a story for another time. satoru by this point feels like his connection with you matters the most, because he feels secured about his relationship with suguru. but of course, you wonder because there's a difference with how he needs to converse with you vs just going purely with what suguru says. but i suppose that's just how obvious it was, their fracturing relationships. anyway, i hope you enjoy this little treat!!! I love you all <3

YOU HAD JUST GOTTEN THE NEWS ON YOUR WAY BACK. The dimly lit infirmary of Tokyo Jujutsu High buzzed with the faint sounds of healing techniques being employed and the distant murmurs of the staff tending to the injured.
The air was heavy with the scent of antiseptics, but it was the sight before you that truly made your heart raceâa scene you had dreaded since the moment you heard about the mission. Ieiri Shoko looked at you in the face, with a weary look. You had never seen that look in her eyes before. Your eyes scanned the room and your breath was blown out of you.
Gojo Satoru lay on one of the beds, his usually vibrant expression now dulled by pain. His left arm was heavily bandaged, blood seeping through the cloth, while deep cuts marred his torso. Geto Suguru, just a few feet away, appeared equally battered, his face bruised and swollen, eyes closed as if he were trying to shut out the world around him.
Your breath hitched in your throat, and a wave of panic washed over you. âSatoruâkun! Suguruâkun!â You rushed to their side, your hands trembling as you reached for them. Satoruâs gaze flickered to yours, a flicker of reassurance in his eyes, but it was overshadowed by the pain etched across his features. Suguruâs lips curled slightly in a weak smile, but it didnât reach his eyes.
âHey, weâre fine⌠just a little banged up.â Satoru managed, his voice hoarse, but it did little to assuage your fear. You heard that he was stabbed in the throat and that concerned you the most. You could see the blood dried soaking the bandages and the shadows under their eyes. Panic turned into a cold grip around your heart.
âNo, youâre not!â You barely managed to keep your voice steady as you felt your chest tighten. âYouâre injured! You shouldnât have gone on that mission at allâŚ.This should have been my mission, I told them soâŚ.âÂ
âGenâsenpai, weâreâŚ.weâre alright.â Suguru whispered, but you can tell that he wasnât alright. Everything about him was out of place, shaken and beaten. Exhausted. Broken. âReally.â
âYouâŚyou donât have to lie to me, Suguruâkun.â
Your eyes darted around the room, taking in the chaos, the frantic pace of the other healer staff in the room as they worked to clear out the equipment. You turned back to Yagaâsensei, who stood nearby, his expression stoic, but the concern in his eyes mirrored your own. The more you looked at him, the angrier you got. If he had decided to fight against the decision by the higher ups, by Tengenâsama, then maybeâŚ.just maybe â he wouldnât have that look on his face.Â
âIâm willing to take the next few months of missions for them.â you blurted out, your determination taking Yaga by surprise. Your exhausted eyes lowered. âThey canât go back out there like this. Itâs too dangerous. I can handle it; Iâll do whatever it takes.â
Yaga looked at you for a long moment, the weight of your words hanging in the air. âYou know the risks of this to you. Youâre already doing so muchâŚ.â he said finally, his voice low and serious. âPrincipal Gakuganji would be displeasedââ
Your eyes looked up and narrowed. âSo? Heâs always displeased with me and my so-called insolence anyway. Let him get angry.â
âGenmei, if you were seriousââ
âI am. I never joke around about things like this. You know that too well.â you insisted, crossing your arms defiantly. âI wonât let them put themselves in danger again while theyâre like this. They need to rest and recover.â
As Shoko continued to work on Satoru and another worked on Suguru, you sat down beside them, taking one of Satoruâs hands in yours, squeezing it tightly. âJust hold on, okay? Youâll be alright.â
Satoruâs eyes softened as he gazed at you, and for a moment, the pain seemed to fade away, replaced by the warmth of your presence. âYou really worry too much, Genâsenpai.â he said, a small, teasing smirk trying to break through despite the pain. âBut I appreciate it.â
Suguru shifted slightly, his eyes fluttering open. âYouâre taking the missions?â he asked, his voice barely above a whisper, filled with concern. âYou shouldnât have to carry that burden alone, Genâsenpai. Thatâs not something that you should concern yourself about.â
âI can handle it, Suguruâkun.â you replied firmly, forcing a smile despite the tears threatening to spill over. âYou both need to heal. Iâll make sure everything is taken care of while you rest.â
Satoru and Suguru exchanged a glance, an unspoken conversation passing between them. Then Satoru looked back at you, his expression serious. âPromise me youâll be careful, okay? You canât push yourself too hard either, Genâsenpai.â
âI promise.â you replied, your voice trembling with emotion. âIâll do whatever it takes to keep you both safe.â
As the medical staff and Shoko continued their work, you stayed by their sides, your heart swelling with a mix of fear and determination. You mouthed a thank you to Shoko, who nodded at you. She didnât want to talk about it, not yet. But maybe soon. Not everything had to be continued in words. And so silence remained.
YOU WERE GOOD AT NOTICING THINGS. And yet, you didnât notice this before it was too late. It was subtle at first, so faint that you almost didnât notice it. The way Satoru would flinch, ever so slightly, when your hand brushed against his.
How Suguru's usually calm and confident demeanor would flicker off with hesitation whenever an argument arose. He would immediately snap and tell you to drop it off. It was small enough to ignore in the beginning, but as the days turned into weeks, the changes became impossible to overlook.
You couldnât find yourself to come and visit them today, even if you were on campus. As you sat at the edge of your staff room, you sighed as you smoked out your French cigarettes. You had just gotten back from a mission and now you couldnât fall asleep.
You shrugged as you kept staring at the soft glow of the setting sun filtering through the window, the weight of the growing distance between you, Satoru, and Suguru pressing down on your chest like a vice. They were right there, just within reach, but they felt so far away.
Satoru had always been the one who reached out, pulling you into his orbit with his magnetic energy. He was the one who would tug you close without a second thought, his arm draped lazily around your shoulders, his touch playful and comforting. But now⌠now he barely touched you at all.
You remembered the last time you tried to hold his hand. It was a small gesture, one born out of habit more than anything, but the moment your fingers brushed against his, you felt him pull away. He tried to cover it up, laughing it off with a joke that was too sharp, too brittle. But you saw the flicker of discomfort in his eyes.
It wasnât that he didnât care about you or how you feel. You knew he did. But something had changed. Something inside him recoiled from physical contact, and no matter how hard you tried to ignore it, it was impossible not to feel the sting of rejection.
Suguru, on the other hand, had always been your anchor, the one who brought calm to the storm. When things went wrong, he was the one who would sit with you, listen to you, face the problem head-on. But now, whenever there was even the slightest hint of conflict, he would retreat, closing himself off from you in ways that were so unlike him.
The last argument you had was over something smallâan errand left undone, a moment of miscommunicationâbut instead of addressing it, Suguru had simply walked away. No discussion, no confrontation. Just silence. And it hurt more than the argument ever could have.
Ieiri Shoko pushes the door to your room open without knocking, her usual nonchalance on full display as she steps inside. The familiar smell of tobacco clings to her, the faint scent of cigarette smoke tracing behind her like a signature. She waves at you, smiling.
"Hey." she greets, tossing a small box of cigarettes on your desk. "Can I have one?"
You glance at her, then at the cigarettes. A brief hesitation flickers through your mind before you shake your head. "Shoko, I can't give you one."
She snickers, a knowing smirk tugging at the corner of her lips as she takes a seat on the edge of your bed. "Yeah? Like you didn't start smoking at my age." She pulls one out for herself, lighting it expertly and inhaling deeply.
You sigh, realizing sheâs got you there. The years have passed, but that particular truth hasn't changed. "Fine, fine. Just one." you mutter, reaching over for a cigarette. "But donât act all smug about it."
The two of you settle into a comfortable silence, the soft crackle of burning tobacco the only sound for a moment. You take a slow drag, letting the smoke swirl lazily in the air between you. You wonder why Shoko was already up â but you knew better than to ask. She probably hasn't slept yet either. Knowing her, sheâs studying up for her RCT with some of the other healer focused sorcerers. You sighed. You were in no position to tell her to go back to sleep.
"So... howâs Geto doing?" Shoko asks after a while, her tone casual but with an undertone of concern.
You exhale, watching the smoke dissipate into the air as your thoughts drift to him. "Heâs... managing. Itâs not easy, but weâre working through it. I think he's finding his balance again, little by little. There are still tough days. Sometimes we talk, sometimes we donât. If we do, sometimes he snaps. But no more than usual, I suppose.â
Shoko nods, taking another drag from her cigarette. "Yeah. That makes sense. And Gojo?"
"SatoruâkunâŚ" You pause, unsure of how to summarize the mess of emotions tied to his name. "Heâs still overseas, doing his thing. Same old Gojo, honestly. But there's something... I donât know. I worry about him sometimes."
She blows out a slow stream of smoke, eyes narrowing slightly as she considers your words. "Gojoâs always been hard to read when it comes to his own well-being. He hides it well. Guess thatâs why weâre all stuck worrying about him."
"Yeah, I suppose so." you agree softly, feeling a pang of concern settle in your chest. "It's like he carries everything but never really shares the weight."
Shoko chuckles lightly, her cigarette burning low as she stubs it out. "Guess we all have our ways of dealing donât we? But at least weâve got each other."
You nod, flicking the ash from your cigarette into the tray. "Yeah... we do."
At least thatâs what you hoped.
The more they withdrew, the more you found yourself pulling away, too. It wasnât what you wanted. Every fiber of your being screamed for you to reach out, to grab hold of them, to bridge the gap that was forming between you. But each time you tried, it felt like you were met with walls that neither of them were willing to break down.
You found yourself spending more time alone, avoiding the spaces where the three of you used to be so comfortable together. The living room, once filled with easy laughter and teasing banter, felt too cold, too empty.
The kitchen, where Satoru used to steal snacks from your plate, now felt like a place of quiet avoidance. Even your bedroom, the sanctuary where youâd all shared late-night talks and quiet moments, seemed foreign now.
And they didnât seem to notice the way your distance mirrored theirs.
Satoru still cracked his usual jokes, but there was an edge to them that hadnât been there before. He seemed more focused on keeping up appearances, hiding behind his sarcasm and grin, as if pretending that nothing had changed would make it true. Suguru, too, was quieter, more withdrawn. When you tried to talk to him, really talk to him, his responses were vague, his eyes distant, as if he wasnât entirely present in the conversation.
It broke something inside you.
You wanted to ask them what was happening. Why Satoru couldnât stand to be touched anymore, why Suguru avoided confrontation like it was a plague. But every time you opened your mouth to ask, the words got stuck in your throat. You were afraid of what the answer might be. Afraid that acknowledging the growing rift between you would make it real in a way that was irreversible.
So, you stayed silent. You put on a smile when they were around, forced laughter where it didnât quite fit, and pretended that the distance didnât hurt as much as it did.
But late at night, when you were alone in bed and the silence was deafening, you couldnât stop the ache in your chest from spreading. The realization that you were becoming a stranger to the two people you loved most in the world was suffocating, and no matter how hard you tried to hold on, they were slipping away from you.
You knew you couldnât keep pretending forever. Something had to give. But until then, all you could do was watch the space between you grow wider, feeling more alone with each passing day.
YOU RARELY DRINK NOWADAYS. Not because you canât, but because you had too many vices already. And it worried your mother a lot, how the alcohol had changed you as a person. You would not give up the cigarette, not yet. But giving up the drink was easy. But there were days where it was hard to keep that promise.Â
Today was one of these days.
The air was cold and still, the kind of night where even the wind held its breath. The Mikoto family tomb stood silently under the pale light of the moon, a forgotten place tucked away in a corner of Kyoto, where old memories and ancient grudges rested.
You staggered through the entrance, the alcohol heavy in your veins, numbing everything except the ache in your chest. Your breath hitched as you made your way deeper into the tomb, past the grand marble slabs of ancestors long gone, until you reached the place where the weight of your heart seemed heaviest.
Fushiguro Toji.
His name was etched onto the stone beside your fatherâs, a simple marker for a man who had lived his life in defiance of everything. Of the Zenins, of fate, and of you. The bottle of sake in your hand swayed dangerously as you stopped in front of his grave. The cold stone of the tomb pressed into your back as you collapsed in front of it, your fingers trembling as you poured some of the drink over his grave, a bitter offering.
âYouâŚâ your voice cracked, the alcohol giving it a sharp edge. âWhy did you have to do the things you did?â
Your chest tightened as you stared at the name on the stone, blurred by your drunken haze, by the tears that you didnât even realize were already streaming down your face. âYou couldâve come to us! You shouldâve come to us, Toji. You didnât have to⌠you didnât have to ruin everything.â
Anger boiled in your veins, mixing with the hurt, with the deep sense of betrayal that had festered inside you for so long. Toji had been family, in some strange, fractured way. You looked up to him in your youth. He was the brother you never had. You missed him, you longed for him. He was a missing piece of your family. And yet he decided that he didnât want to have that.Â
He could have sought refuge, he could have swallowed his pride, but instead, he had walked a path of destruction, dragging everything and everyone down with him.
âWhy didnât you come to us?â you demanded, your voice rising as you clenched the bottle tighter. âYou knew the Zenins were trash. Us who left, we were all we had! You knew! My fatherâhe would have helped you. He would have protected you, taken you in. YouâŚ.you were like a son to him. You knew that! We could have given you a real home, a place where you didnât have to keep fighting⌠but no. You had toââ Your words broke off into a sob, your breath ragged as the weight of your pain crushed your chest.
You leaned forward, your forehead resting against the cold stone of his grave. The anger was still there, burning beneath the surface, but now, all you could feel was the deep, aching sense of loss. âWhy did you choose pride over everything else? Why, Tojiâniisama? Was it really worth it? All the blood, all the painâŚâ
The tears fell freely now, soaking into the ground beneath you. You had carried this hurt for so long, this question that you had never been able to ask him in life. Why couldnât he have trusted you, trusted your family? Why had he chosen the hard path, the one that left him broken and alone, when he could have had something better?
You slammed the bottle against the stone, your frustration bubbling over. âDamn it, you fool!â you cried, the sound echoing through the tomb. âYou could have had a family! You could have been safe. YourâŚyour kid would have been fine with you and us!â
But he hadnât. And now, he lay here, next to your father, in a cold, silent grave, while you were left standing in the wreckage of the life he had refused.
The alcohol had stripped away your composure, leaving nothing but the raw hurt, the years of wondering what could have been, if only he had been able to put aside that stubborn, destructive pride. Your voice was quieter now, trembling.Â
âWhy couldnât you let go of your pride? Why couldnât you come to us?â
The tomb was silent, offering no answers, no closure. Only the stillness of the dead.
You wiped the tears from your face with the back of your hand, but it didnât matter. They just kept falling, spilling out all the hurt, the anger, the love that had been twisted into something unrecognizable over the years. Tojiâs grave remained still, his choices set in stone, and you were left there, alone with the weight of it all.
âI could have saved you, niiâsama.â you whispered, your voice barely audible. âWe could have saved you.â
But it was too late. The man who had stood tall and unbreakable in his pride was now buried, his name carved into the stone, the answers to your questions buried with him.
TSUKUMO YUKIâS OVERABUNDANCE OF MESSAGES WERE QUITE TOO MUCH. But the more you ignore her, the moreâs going to go and continue her cheeky messaging. So the moment she sent you her location, you went there as you finished your mission. You can file the report tomorrow, you supposed.
The pulsating rhythm of the music hit you like a physical force the moment you stepped into the nightclub, lights flashing in dizzying colors, shadows shifting in every corner of the packed space. The beat was loud, relentless, but it did nothing to shake the exhaustion that clung to you like a second skin.
After three months of endless missions, your body had moved beyond exhaustion into a state of numbness. Sleep was a distant memory, buried under the weight of six missions a day, the faces of cursed spirits, and the suffocating silence that followed each exorcism.
You stumbled toward the bar, the world blurring slightly around the edges. Maybe it was the lack of sleep, maybe it was the fatigue, or maybe it was the overwhelming feeling of being completely, utterly alone despite the crowd. The bartender shot you a glance, but you waved them off, searching for the one familiar face you were here for.
Tsukumo Yuki.
It didnât take long to spot herâleaning casually against the bar, her golden hair catching the light as she turned her gaze toward you. She raised an eyebrow, a knowing smirk tugging at the corner of her lips as you approached. But behind her usual teasing expression, you could see something elseâconcern, perhaps, or something heavier that she wasnât showing.
âYou look like hell, Mei-chi.â Yuki remarked, her voice cutting through the noise as you finally collapsed onto the stool next to her. She grinned. âI thought you would dress up for me.â
Sheâs called you Meiâchi for a long time, maybe longer than you could remember. Kaiko kept telling her off about it. But you just let her be. She called you her âlightâ after all. She ordered you both drinks without asking, sliding one toward you. You ignored it for now, instead fixing her with a tired look.
âI just came from a mission, Yuki.â you muttered, rubbing a hand over your face. âOr five. I donât even know anymore.â The words came out slurred with fatigue. âI canât dress up for you, sorry.â
âYeah, I heard, you know?â she said, her smirk softening into something more serious. She leaned closer, her hand resting lightly on your arm. âThatâs why Iâm here.â
You frowned, blinking at her in confusion. âWhat do you mean?â
âIâm worried about you. Well, I always worry about you, Mei-chi.â Yuki said simply, her bright pinkishâdoe eyes locking onto yours with an intensity that made your breath catch. âIâve been hearing thingsâhow youâve been taking on six missions a day, running yourself ragged all over Japan. You havenât slept properly in months, have you?â
Your heart skipped a beat. âYuki, seriously, this isââ
She cut you off with a shake of her head. âIâm not here to lecture you, Mei-chi. I just wanted to see you. Thatâs enough to halt my research for a bit. Youâre more than enough reason, always.â
The weight of her words hit you harder than expected. You had always known Yuki to be focused, obsessed even, with her goals and research. But to hear that she had paused all of it just to check on youâit made something tighten in your chest. You purse your lips into a flat line, your eyes not leaving her own.
âIâm fine, Yuki.â you said, but even to your own ears, the words sounded hollow. You took a long swig of the drink she had ordered for you, the alcohol burning its way down your throat. The lie lingered in the air between you, and Yuki didnât bother trying to hide the disbelief in her eyes.
âAre you? Or are you just going to lie to me again through your teeth?â she asked quietly, her hand still resting on your arm, warm and steady against your skin. âBecause from where Iâm sitting, youâre anything but fine.â
Her words cracked something open inside you. The exhaustion, the relentless pressure you had been putting on yourself, the weight of every curse exorcized, every mission completedâall of it felt like it was crashing down on you at once. And now, here she was, this person who always seemed so untouchable, so above the chaos, sitting next to you and telling you that she cared.
âWhy do you care so much?â you asked, your voice hoarse as you looked up at her, meeting her gaze head-on. The alcohol was starting to hit, your mind fuzzier, but her presence was clear, grounded, like a tether in the storm of your exhaustion.
âBecause I care about you the most.â Yuki replied, with no hesitation in her voice. The sincerity in her words made your chest tighten, your throat constrict with emotions you werenât ready to face. Her hand slid from your arm to your hand, squeezing it gently. âBut donât you know that already? Or do you need a reminder?â
You stared at her, the noise of the club fading into the background as her words hung between you. You wanted to say something, but no words came. Instead, you took another long drink, the alcohol dulling the sharp edges of everything inside you. It was easier that way, easier to drown it all out, to let the numbness spread.
Yuki stayed by your side, patient, her eyes never leaving you. She didnât push, didnât demand anything from you. Instead, she was just⌠there. And for the first time in months, you allowed yourself to lean into that presence, to let someone else carry a bit of the weight youâd been holding onto.
âI appreciate it. You should know that.â you muttered, your voice barely audible over the music. âI really do.â
Yuki smiled softly, her thumb brushing over the back of your hand. âI know.â
Drink after drink, you let yourself sink deeper into the warmth of the alcohol, into the comfort of her presence. You werenât sure when it happened, but at some point, the distance between you two vanished. The lines blurred, and before you knew it, your lips were on hers.
It was soft at first, tentative, as if you were both testing the waters, but then something broke open between you, a flood of pent-up emotions, exhaustion, and longing. The kiss deepened, and suddenly, the world around you ceased to exist.
You didnât remember how you got back to the hotel. Everything was a blur of heat and tangled limbs, of whispered names and shared breaths. It was a desperate need to forget, to feel, to lose yourself in somethingâsomeone that wasnât the constant burden of your responsibilities.
When you woke the next morning, the early light creeping through the window, you found yourself in bed beside Yuki, her golden hair spread across the pillow. For a moment, you just lay there, staring at the ceiling, the weight of last night sinking in.
You hadnât planned for this. You hadnât expected it. But somehow, in the quiet hours of the night, you had found something you hadnât realized you were looking for.
Yuki stirred beside you, her eyes fluttering open as she turned to look at you. There was no regret in her gaze, only quiet understanding.
âMorning.â she murmured, her voice still soft with sleep.
âMorning.â you replied, your voice rough but steadier than it had been in a long time.
And for the first time in what felt like forever, you allowed yourself to breathe.
WHEN YUKI LEFT, YOUR LIFE RETURNED TO ITS DAILY PATTERN. The quiet of your apartment in Kyoto was a rare luxury, a silence you had grown unaccustomed to after months of constant missions.
It was one of those rare days off, but even then, you couldnât relax. Your mind was still racing, still thinking ahead to the next mission, the next cursed spirit that needed to be exorcized. The dim light filtering through the curtains gave the space a muted, almost serene feel, but it did nothing to calm the storm inside you.
The soft knock at the door startled you, breaking the quiet. You sighed, already knowing who it was before you even opened the door. When you did, there he stoodâSatoru Gojo, leaning casually against the doorframe, his signature smirk in place, but his cerulean eyes told a different story, something more subdued, something that softened his usual bravado.
âHey.â Satoru greeted, his tone lighter than his eyes. âIâm glad to finally see you.â
You crossed your arms, leaning against the doorway, your eyes narrowing slightly. âYou should go home, Satoruâkun.â you said quietly, your voice devoid of its usual warmth. âIâm sure you have better things to do.â
He tilted his head, not moving from where he stood. âI could go home, thatâs true.â he admitted, shrugging. âBut I wanted to see you. Iâm staying here, just so I can spend time with you.â He stepped inside without waiting for permission, his presence instantly filling the space as if he belonged there.
You sighed again, closing the door behind him. âYou only have a few minutes, then.â you said, glancing at the clock on the wall. âI have to leave. Thereâs another mission soon.â
Satoruâs expression faltered, but only for a moment before he plastered on another playful grin. âA few minutes, huh? Well, Iâll take what I can get.â
He wandered around your apartment as if inspecting it. It changed the last time since he visited. But you were quite certain that he knew that already. He just doesnât care about it now.His gaze kept drifting back to you, his hands in his pockets, shoulders relaxed, but you could sense the tension just beneath the surface.
You sat down on the couch, folding your arms over your chest, trying to put some distance between you. âYou know Iâm not in the mood for this, Satoruâkun.â you muttered, not meeting his gaze. âYou should be resting, not chasing after me.â
âMaybe I donât want to rest, Genâsenpai.â he said, his voice softer now, the teasing edge gone. He took a seat beside you, not too close, but close enough that you could feel the warmth of him. âMaybe I just want to see you. Itâs been⌠a while.â
Your heart clenched at his words. He wasnât wrong. It had been a while since you had seen each other, since you had shared any real time together. You had both been buried in missions, in responsibilities that seemed never-ending. And now, even when you had a sliver of time, you were already thinking about leaving again.
âSatoruâkunâŚ..â you began, your voice wavering, âI donât have time for this. For us. At least right now. You know that.â
He didnât respond right away, just stared at you, his usual cockiness replaced by something softer, something more vulnerable. âI know youâve been busy.â he said slowly, looking you in the eyes deeper. âAnd I know Iâve been⌠distant. But Iâm here now.â
You swallowed hard, your resolve starting to crack under his gaze. His eyes, usually so bright and full of life, seemed a little dimmer now, weighed down by the same exhaustion you felt. You wanted to tell him to leave, to walk away and forget about whatever this was, but the words wouldnât come.
Instead, you looked away, your hands tightening into fists in your lap. âA few minutes. JustâŚ.a little bit more, okay?â you repeated, your voice barely above a whisper.
Satoru reached out, his hand brushing lightly against yours, a touch so fleeting it almost wasnât there. But it was enough to make you freeze, to make you feel the ache in your chest that you had been trying so hard to ignore. He didnât push, didnât try to hold on. He just let his hand linger for a second before pulling back.
âI donât need more than that. Even if it isn't enough, Iâll tell you it's enough.â he said softly, his eyes searching your face as if trying to memorize every detail. âI just⌠I miss you.â
The words hung in the air between you, heavy and loaded with the things you both werenât saying. You wanted to tell him you missed him too, that you hated the distance between you, but the missions, the constant fightâit had become a wall between you, one that you didnât know how to tear down.
âI miss you too.â you finally admitted, your voice small and tired. âBut that doesnât change anything.â
Satoruâs smile was sad, a rare expression on his usually carefree face. âI know it doesnât. But for now⌠can stay here for a little more? Even if itâs only for a few minutes.â
You didnât respond, but you didnât push him away either. The two of you stared at each other in silence, the sound of the ticking clock the only thing filling the space between you. The weight of your responsibilities still loomed large, but for a brief moment, in the quiet of your apartment, you allowed yourself to forget.
Just for a few minutes.
The soft clink of your lighter echoed in the quiet room, breaking the stillness as you lit a cigarette and took a slow drag. The smoke curled lazily into the air, swirling around you in a haze as you moved around, packing some essentials into a worn duffel bag. The apartment felt heavier these days, the walls somehow closer, as if the weight of everything that had happened had pressed in on you both.
Satoru was back. He was healed, physically at least, but something in him had changed. He had grown quieter, more serious. The once carefree, arrogant smirk that used to greet you was replaced by a grim focus. His obsession with Jujutsu had deepened, consuming him in a way that was hard to watch.
He stood by the window, his back to you, his posture tense. His gaze was distant, fixed on some point far beyond the cityscape, lost in thoughts you couldnât reach. It had been like this for weeks nowâ Gojo Satoru in the same room but feeling a thousand miles away.
You took another drag, letting the smoke fill your lungs before slowly exhaling. The bitter taste grounded you, kept you awake, kept you from getting lost in the same fog that had swallowed him.
âI donât like seeing you smoke, Genâsenpai.â Satoruâs voice cut through the silence, soft but firm. He hadnât moved, still staring out at the city, but you could feel the weight of his words. âItâs bad for you.â
You glanced over at him, your eyes narrowing slightly. âIt keeps me upâŚ..you know that.â you muttered, flicking the ash off into the tray beside you. You didnât want to get into thisânot now. Not after everything.
He finally turned to face you, his pale blue eyes catching the dim light filtering through the curtains. His glasses sat perched on his nose, shielding his gaze, but you knew he was watching you closely. âJust do coffee jelly, like you used to.â
You smiled at him softly. âItâs not enough, Satoruâkun.â
In a few quick strides, Satoru closed the distance between you. His fingers wrapped gently around the cigarette in your hand, not pulling it away, just holding it there, his touch light but firm. The sudden proximity sent a jolt through you, and you glanced up at him, meeting his gaze.
With a slow, deliberate motion, Satoru removed his glasses, setting them aside. His bright blue eyes were clear now, piercing, full of a raw emotion he had been hiding behind his usual aloofness.Â
âIâm sorry.â he said, his voice quieter than before, but more real, more vulnerable. âIâm sorry I ignored you. That wonât happen again.â
You stared at him for a long moment, the tension between you heavy and thick, the smell of smoke still hanging in the air. His apology hung there, an unspoken plea behind it. It wasnât just about the cigarette. It was about the distance, the silence, the way he had shut you out.
You sighed, long and heavy, and without a word, you crushed the cigarette into the ashtray. The glowing ember dimmed and died out as you turned away from him, continuing to pack your things.
âI just needed time.â Satoru continued, his voice soft but insistent. âIâm trying to figure everything out, but I know I pushed you away. I shouldnât have.â
You paused, your hands stilling over the bag, but you didnât turn to face him. âYouâve changed.â you said quietly, your voice barely above a whisper. âYouâre different now. Obsessed.â
âI know, I know.â he admitted, his voice steady but lined with exhaustion. âI have to be. Jujutsu⌠itâs all I have left to keep this world in check. If Iâm not strong enough, who else will be?â
You closed your eyes, taking a breath to calm the swirl of frustration in your chest. âYou donât have to do it alone, Satoruâkun.â
âI know that too.â His voice softened, and you could hear him moving closer, his presence a warm but overwhelming force behind you. âBut I donât want to lose anyone else. Not SuguruâŚ.Not you. Especially not you.â
His words cracked something inside you, and before you could stop yourself, you turned to face him, your eyes locking onto his. For a moment, neither of you spoke, the silence filled with everything you werenât saying.
Satoruâs gaze softened, and without hesitation, he stepped closer, closing the remaining distance between you. His hand brushed against your arm, a touch that was meant to be reassuring, grounding, but instead, it sent a shiver down your spine.
âI wonât ignore you again, donât worry.â he repeated, his voice a low promise. âI canât afford to.â
You sighed, letting the tension drain from your shoulders. âJust⌠donât lose yourself, Satoruâkun.â
He nodded, his expression still serious but with a flicker of his old self breaking through. âIâll try.â
For the first time in weeks, you allowed yourself to believe him. Just for now, just for this moment. You couldnât predict what would happen next, but for now, at least, he was here. With you.
The quiet stretched between you like a chasm, uncomfortably familiar in the way it pressed on the spaces that once held laughter and ease. Satoru stood there, looking at you with a mix of uncertainty and something else you couldnât quite place. The tension, though subtle, hung heavily in the air.
âAre you mad at me?â he asked, his voice low, almost hesitant, as if the answer could break whatever fragile connection remained between you.
You looked at him for a long moment before shaking your head. âNo, Iâm not mad.â
His gaze softened, but you could see the hint of relief flicker in his eyes. He always feared the worst in moments like this, despite the bravado he carried like armor. âGood,â he breathed, his shoulders relaxing slightly.
âButâŚ.â you continued, your tone steady but carrying the weight of unspoken expectations, âI just hoped for more from you.â
Satoru didnât flinch at your words, but his face hardened just a fraction. He stood there, absorbing what you said, before giving you a slight nod. âI know.â he said quietly. There was no argument, no defense, just a simple acknowledgment.
You sighed, looking down at the floor, the quiet filling the room once again. You werenât angry, not really. Just⌠disappointed. You had always seen Satoru as something more, something larger than life, someone who could shoulder the weight of the world and still be the person you needed him to be. But the cracks were showing, and they were starting to feel too deep to ignore.
âI justâŚâ You trailed off, unsure of how to finish the sentence. Your mind wandered to Suguru, to the growing distance you had sensed between him and Satoru. Something was off. You didnât know what exactly, but you felt it. And it made you feel like you were on the outside, unable to help either of them.
âHave you talked to Suguru?â you asked suddenly, your voice sharper than you intended. âAsked if heâs really fine?â
Satoruâs expression shifted, a flicker of confusion crossing his face. âSuguruâs fine, you know that.â he said, his tone dismissive, as if the question itself was unnecessary. âWhy wouldnât he be?â
You frowned, your stomach twisting at his nonchalance. âAre you sure?â you asked quietly, searching his face for any sign that he might understand what you were getting at. But Satoru just shrugged, his easy confidence never wavering.
âIâve seen him. Heâs fine.â he repeated, this time with more certainty. âJust exhausted, you know? Heâs back to his missions.â
But you werenât convinced. Something in Geto Suguru had been different lately, something you couldnât quite put your finger on. Maybe it was the way he avoided certain conversations, or how his smiles didnât reach his eyes anymore. Whatever it was, you knew it wasnât as simple as Satoru made it out to be.
You looked at Satoru, feeling the weight of the silence between you again. You werenât sure what to say. How could you explain what you felt without sounding like you were imagining things? And yet, the growing distance between all of you gnawed at your gut like an ever-present ache.
Instead of pushing further, you just sighed and shook your head. âI hope youâre right.â
Satoru watched you for a moment longer, his eyes searching your face as if trying to figure out what you werenât saying. But he didnât push, didnât press you for more.
You looked at Satoru, feeling the weight of the silence between you again. You werenât sure what to say. How could you explain what you felt without sounding like you were imagining things? And yet, the growing distance between all of you gnawed at your gut like an ever-present ache.
For a moment, the tension between you and Satoru lingered, a thin thread that neither of you seemed willing to cut. He stood there, quiet but expectant, as if waiting for you to say something to fill the silence. You glanced at him, then back down at your bag, your hands absentmindedly fidgeting with the zipper.Â
Everything about this, it was like a kaleidoscope. A pandemonium of colors, colors you see and donât want to see all at once. It was just that way, you supposed. Your world, it is more colorful with all these colors in it. And slowly, you were just waiting, Waiting to find out more. To see more. To reach for it.
âMaybe you should ask Suguru if he wants to come eat with us sometime. Shoko too. I heardâŚ.her RCT teacher is brutal with work. We can relax together.â you said softly, breaking the silence. The thought had been nagging at you for a while now, ever since youâd heard the rumorsâboth of them skipping meals, barely taking care of themselves. âIâve heard neither of you are eating much lately. You and Suguru.â
Satoruâs expression shifted, a small frown creasing his brow. He didnât deny it, didnât argue, just let your words hang there for a moment before giving a slight nod. âSuguruâs⌠heâs been busy.â he murmured, his voice distant, as if there was more to the story than he was willing to admit.
âBusy or not, tell him to come. I can cook andâŚ.â you continued. âyou both need to eat. My day off is tomorrow, so Iâll cook zaru soba.â You glanced at him, gauging his reaction before adding with a small, lazy smile, âAnd Iâll bake cookies too.â
Satoruâs frown eased, and for the first time in what felt like weeks, you saw a hint of the old Satoruâthe one whoâd light up at the mention of food, especially if you were the one cooking. He loosened up, his posture relaxing slightly as the corners of his mouth lifted into a small, genuine smile.
âI missed you/â he admitted, his voice soft but sincere. There was a vulnerability in his words that made your heart ache. He had always been good at hiding behind jokes and bravado, but in moments like this, the cracks showed, and you could see the real Satoru underneath.
You sighed, the sound heavy but not without warmth. A lazy smile tugged at your lips as you reached for the cigarette youâd left in the ashtray. You put it between your lips, not lighting it this time, just holding it there as you looked at him.
âI missed you too, Satoru.â you said, your voice quiet but filled with an honesty you hadnât allowed yourself to express until now.
He stared at you for a moment, his eyes softening as the tension between you both seemed to dissolve, if only for now. The silence that followed wasnât uncomfortableâit was filled with something else, something familiar and comforting.
Satoru stepped closer, his hand brushing against yours as he reached for the lighter you had set aside. For a brief moment, his fingers lingered on yours, a small gesture that spoke louder than words. You didnât pull away.
âWeâll talk to Suguru. Shokoâs pretty easy to convince.â he said quietly, his eyes never leaving yours. âAnd⌠Iâd like that. The soba and the cookies.â
You smiled around the unlit cigarette, feeling the weight on your chest lift, just a little. âGood.â
As you grabbed your bag and slung it over your shoulder, the familiar weight of another mission ahead pressed on you. You glanced at Satoru, who was still lingering by the door, watching your every move. There was something in his eyesâplayful, yes, but tinged with something deeper, something almost like reluctance to let you go.
âYou heading out already?â he asked, his tone casual, but you could hear the disappointment beneath it.
âYeahâŚThe sooner I finish, the faster I can go home. I can buy the ingredients for tomorrow in the morning too.â you replied, adjusting the strap of your bag.Â
Satoru shifted from one foot to the other, hesitating for just a moment before blurting out, âIâll tag along.â
You blinked at him, surprised. âNo, you wonât.â
But Satoru, in typical fashion, wasnât ready to take no for an answer. He pouted dramatically, crossing his arms as if you had just denied him his favorite treat.Â
âWhy not? I wanna come. Iâll even take pictures and send them to Suguru and Shoko.â he added with a childish grin, his eyes gleaming with mischief. âGonna make them jealous.â
You shook your head, exasperated. âYouâre insufferable, you know that?â You tried to hide the amused smile that tugged at the corners of your mouth, but you knew Satoru could see through it.
âInsufferable? Me?!â he gasped theatrically, placing a hand over his heart as if wounded. âI just missed you,â he whined, his voice taking on that exaggerated, almost comically tearful tone that he often used when he didnât get his way. âIs that so wrong?â
You rolled your eyes, sighing as you made your way toward the door. âYouâre such a child, Satoruâkun.â
âAnd you love it!â he called after you, his grin widening. He trotted after you like an eager puppy, his energy somehow never fading, even after everything the two of you had been through.
You stopped at the doorway, turning to look at him one more time. He stood there, still pouting, but there was something about the way he looked at youâsomething vulnerable beneath all that playfulness. You sighed, shaking your head as you smiled lazily.
âGo home, Satoruâkun.â you said softly, your voice carrying a warmth that betrayed your words.
But even as you stepped out the door, you could hear him calling after you, still determined, still wanting to be near you, as if afraid to let you slip away again. And despite everything, you couldnât help but smile, knowing that no matter how much you resisted, Satoru would always find a way to stay close.
epilogue
It was one of those rare weekday afternoons when the world seemed to slow down, a precious day off for Satoru that he intended to make special.
While you were out picking up Megumi and Tsumiki from school, he had taken it upon himself to surprise you by cleaning your office. With Satoshi strapped snugly in a baby carrier on his chest, Satoru moved about the space, a little clumsily, as he picked up stray papers and tidied up the scattered toys that somehow always found their way there.
As he cleaned, he noticed a drawer slightly ajar and, out of curiosity, pulled it open. Inside lay a treasure trove of memoriesâold photographs that instantly transported him back in time. He reached for a stack, and as he did, Satoshi, fascinated by the colors and shapes of the pictures, began reaching for them with tiny, eager hands.
âHey, little guy, not so fast!â Satoru chuckled, stumbling slightly as Satoshiâs excitement threw him off balance. In his haste to keep the baby from pulling the pictures out of his hands, he ended up dropping a few, and they scattered across the floor.
One photo landed face-up, capturing a younger version of you, Suguru, and Shoko, all grinning wide and carefree, the sunlight casting a golden hue over the moment. Another showed a laughing Kaiko and Namie, arms thrown around your shoulders. Satoru felt a warmth spread through him as he admired the faces of your past, each picture telling a story of friendship and laughter.
As he knelt down to gather them, he couldnât help but smile at the nostalgia. âHow nostalgic youth is, hm?â he mused aloud, glancing at Satoshi, who cooed in response, as if he understood the sentiment. âGlad you agree, little dawn.â
Just then, the sound of the front door creaking open signaled Megumi and Tsumikiâs return. They came bounding in, backpacks slung over their shoulders, chatting excitedly about their day. When they spotted Satoru on the floor surrounded by pictures, they exchanged curious glances.
âWhat are those?â Tsumiki asked, peering over at the scattered photos.
You entered just in time to hear her question, a smile blooming on your face as you knelt beside Satoru. âThese are some old pictures!â you explained, picking one up to show them. âThis is me with some of my friends.â You pointed at the smiling faces in the photo, watching as your children leaned in closer to get a better look. âThen me and Satoru with everyone we love.â
Megumi studied the picture intently. âYou all look so young then,â he remarked, a hint of surprise in his voice. âAnd happy.â
âYeah, we were.â you said, your voice warm with fond memories. âWe had some good times back then.â
As you sorted through the photos, Gojo Satoru couldnât help but beam with pride, watching you share your past with the kids. You pointed out Kaiko and Namie in another picture, explaining who they were and how you had all met. The joy in your voice was infectious, and he felt a swell of happiness just being there, part of this moment.
âWow, you were cool back then, too!â Tsumiki teased, giggling as she spotted a particularly silly pose youâd struck in one of the photos.
Satoru joined in on the laughter, his heart swelling with love for the life you had built together. âIâd say youâve only gotten cooler.â he said, giving you a playful nudge. âAnd to think I get to be here for all of it.â
Megumi snickered. âYouâre still as lame as back then.â
âHUH!? Megumi! You think of your dad as lame!? LAME!? Darling! Our son thinks Iâm lame!â
You laughed. âButâŚ.Isnât that the truth, Satoru?â
âThatâs not true at all!â Your husband decried, pouting heavily in response. âI canât believe it, even you?â
âYou make it easy for me to think that way, dear.â
âNow thatâs just flat out rude!â
âGenâsan, where was this?â Tsumiki excitedly asked. âIsnât this a theme park?â
âOhhhh, thatâs the first time we brought Satoru to Parque EspaĂąa! Satoru, didnât you cry at how you got to ride the Pyrenees?â
âIt was terrifying, you knew that!â He blushed, recalling the memory.
Megumi blinked and then grinned. âGenâsan, tell us more!â
âOkay, okay~â
âDarling, donât tell the kids about my uncool moments!â
With the excitement turning to you telling stories about the pictures, Your son Satoshi wanted to go eat some snacks â so Satoru went to the kitchen with him. Satoshi was gurgling happily in the carrier, Satoru felt an overwhelming sense of contentment.Â
Moments like this, no matter how rare or brief, just surrounded by family, reminiscing about the past, and sharing laughterâwere everything he could have ever wanted. In the warmth of your smiles and the joy of your children, he found a sense of belonging that filled his heart to the brim.
âLife is pretty great, donât you think?â he said softly, catching Satoshiâs eye and sharing a smile that spoke volumes. Satoshi giggled. âHm, Iâm glad you think so too, little dawn. Weâll have more and more!â
