We have arrived at our final point: the importation of clinical Freudianism to stem the flow of feminism. Girls in the twenties and thirties found themselves halfway in and halfway out of the traditional roles. Thus they were neither insulated and protected from the larger world as before, nor were they equipped to deal with it. Both their personal and work lives suffered. Their frustration often took hysterical forms, complicated by the fact that they were despised the world over for even the little false liberation they had achieved. Mass confusion sent them in droves to the psychoanalysts. And where had all the psychoanalysts come from? By this time a war was going on in Europe, and much of the German and Austrian intelligentsia had settled here in search of a practice. It was ideal: a whole class of suffering people awaited them. And it was not just a few bored, rich women who were sucked into the new religion. For America was undergoing serious cramps from withholding a sexual revolution already well beyond the beginning stages. Everyone suffered, men as well as women. Books came out with such titles as How to Live with a Neurotic (because that oppressed class is right there in your kitchen, whining and complaining and nagging). Soon men, too, were turning up at the psycho-analysts. Well-educated, responsible citizens, not just psychos. And children. Whole new fields were opened to deal with the influx: child psychology, clinical psychology, group therapy, marriage counseling services, any variation you can think of, name it and there it was. And none of it was enough. The demand multiplied faster than new departments could be opened up in colleges.
That these new departments were soon filled up with women is no wonder. Masses of searching women studied psychology with a passion in the hope of finding a solution to their "hangups." But women who had grown interested in psychology because its raw material touched them where they lived soon were spouting jargon about marital adjustment and sex-role responsibility. Psychology departments became halfway houses to send women scurrying back "adjusted" to their traditional roles as wives and mothers. Those women who persisted in demanding careers became in their turn instruments of the repressive educational system, their new-found psychological “insight”—that babble of Child Psych., Social Work 301 and El. Ed.—serving to keep a fresh generation of women and children down. Psychology became reactionary to its core, its potential as a serious discipline undermined by its usefulness to those in power.
And psychology was not the only new discipline to be corrupted. Education, social work, sociology, anthropology, all the related behavioral sciences, remained for years pseudo-sciences, overburdened with a double function: the indoctrination of women, as well as the study of "human" behavior. Reactionary schools of thought developed: social science became "functional," studying the operation of institutions only within the given value system, thus promoting acceptance of the status quo.
It is not surprising that these remained "women's fields." Men soon fled to (exclusively male) "pure" science; women, still only semi-educated, awed with their new entrance into academia, were left to be snowed with the pseudo-scientific bullshit. For, in addition to role indoctrination, the behavioral sciences served as a dike to keep the hordes of questing "nouveaux intellectuelles" from entering the "real" sciences—physics, engineering, biochemistry, etc., sciences that in a technological society bore an increasingly direct relation to control of that society.
As a result, even access to higher education, one of the few victories of the early W.R.M., was subverted. More average women went to college than ever before, with less effect. Often the only difference between the modern college-educated housewife and her traditional prototype was the jargon she used in describing her marital hell.

Anima mundi
Thus, then, in accordance with the likely account, we must declare that this Cosmos has verily come into existence as a Living Creature endowed with soul and reason [...] a Living Creature, one and visible, containing within itself all the living creatures which are by nature akin to itself.
— Plato, Timaeus 30b–d, translated by W.R.M. Lamb
Plato's Timaeus describes this living cosmos as being built by the demiurge constructed as to be self-identical and intelligible to reason, according to a rational pattern expressed in mathematical principles and Pythagorean ratios describing the structure of the cosmos, and particularly the motions of the seven classical planets.
To the Stoics, the cosmos is a single pantheistic god, one which is rational and creative, and which is the basis of everything which exists. Nothing incorporeal exists. The nature of the world is one of unceasing change, driven by the active part or reason (logos) of God which pervades all things. The active substance of the world is characterized as a 'breath', or pneuma, which provides form and motion to matter, and is the origin of the elements, life, and human rationality. The cosmos proceeds from an original state in utmost heat, and, in the cooling and separation that occurs, all things appear which are only different and stages in the change of primitive being. Eventually though, the world will be reabsorbed into the primary substance, to be consumed in a general conflagration (ekpyrôsis), out of which a new cycle begins again. Since the world operates through reason, all things are determined. But the Stoics adopted a compatibilist view which allowed humans freedom and responsibility within the causal network of fate.

Zakharik Gilmanovich Bekhterev. May he rest in peace. When our probes continued to fail, when my report remained our only positive finding, he volunteered to use the device. One minute of subjective experience inside.
We took precautions. They worked. Bekhterev’s experience left no physical damage.
After we extracted him, he said that he felt determined. I asked him what he meant and he said that he meant it, he had been determined, he could feel all his choices set out before him like a railroad. Deviation was impossible.
He died by suicide. I wonder if he was trying to make a point.
In [Gnosticism] the original cosmogonic significance of the Sophia still stands in the foreground. The antithesis of Christus and Sophia, as He of the right (ho dexios) and She of the Left (hē aristera), as male and female, is but a repetition of the first Cosmogonic Antithesis in another form. The Sophia herself is but a reflex of the "Mother of all living" and is therefore also called "Mother." She is the formatrix of heaven and earth, for as much as mere matter can only receive form through the light which, coming down from above has interpenetrated the dark waters of the hylē; but she is also at the same time the spiritual principle of life in creation, or, as the world-soul the representative of all that is truly pneumatic in this lower world: her fates and experiences represent typically those of the pneumatic soul which has sunk down into chaos.
Sola could feel the Light twisting from her prey's core. She jerked her hand, which dripped with hungering power, and plucked at something deeper. Sola worked her power between her prey's ribs and felt them give way. She dug in, in spite of the pleas, feeling for a grip to hoist their Light to the surface and find what hid underneath.
"So…" Sola's intent bit deeper, malleable claws that flexed against her prey's Light. They probed through blood and muscle to an umbral center. "…it's within you too||And you. And all.||."
We live in succession, in division, in parts, in particles. ||In fractals. In spirals.|| Meantime within man is the soul of the whole; the wise silence; the universal beauty ||Majestic. Majestic.||, to which every part and particle is equally related, the eternal ONE. And this deep power in which we exist and whose beatitude is all accessible to us, is not only self-sufficing and perfect in every hour, but the act of seeing and the thing seen, the seer and the spectacle, the subject and the object, are one. We see the world piece by piece, as the sun, the moon, the animal, the tree; but the whole, of which these are shining parts, is the soul.
The Supreme Critic on the errors of the past and the present, and the only prophet of that which must be, is that great nature in which we rest, as the earth lies in the soft arms of the atmosphere; that Unity, that Over-soul, within which every man's particular being is contained and made one with all other; that common heart.
—Ralph Waldo Emerson, "The Over-Soul"

"So all being is a one and only being; and that it continues to be when someone dies, tells you, that he did not cease to be." —Schrodinger's epitaph
"We are unique emanations of the same shared Light."
Collective unconscious refers to the unconscious mind and shared mental concepts. It is generally associated with idealism and was coined by Carl Jung. According to Jung, the human collective unconscious is populated by instincts, as well as by archetypes: ancient primal symbols such as
The Great Mother
The Shadow
"Shadows were cast here. History made.”
“Am I to cast a Shadow?”
“Yes. You were bred to be a sorrow-bearer. I seek a Hive commander, but those are not so readily available. So I made you.”
"The shadows, showing the truth by their casting."
The Tower
Water
"...wellsprings and rivers..."
The Tree of Life
Jung considered the collective unconscious to underpin and surround the unconscious mind, distinguishing it from the personal unconscious of Freudian psychoanalysis. He believed that the concept of the collective unconscious helps to explain why similar themes occur in mythologies around the world.
O: [sighs] I do not fully understand what I saw, and for a Human to understand a Hive mind... How many legends of katabasis do we have, Ikora?
I: We currently have dozens of stories about descending to the realms of the dead, though research has indicated many more must have existed, lost in the layers of Human history we will never lay eyes on. Mathematically, there were likely hundreds.
I: [pauses] Inanna and Dumuzid and Geshtinanna, Orpheus and Eurydice, Izanagi and Izanami, to name a few. Gods and goddesses, mortal and immortal lovers, always seeking to descend and return with the lost.
O: And neither the lost nor those who searched for them were ever returned the same.
He argued that the collective unconscious had a profound influence on the lives of individuals, who lived out its symbols and clothed them in meaning through their experiences.
"They evidently live and function in the deeper layers of the unconscious, especially in that phylogenetic substratum which I have called the collective unconscious. This localization explains a good deal of their strangeness: they bring into our ephemeral consciousness an unknown psychic life belonging to a remote past. It is the mind of our unknown ancestors, their way of thinking and feeling, their way of experiencing life and the world, gods, and men. The existence of these archaic strata is presumably the source of man's belief in reincarnations and in memories of 'previous experiences'. Just as the human body is a museum, so to speak, of its phylogenetic history, so too is the psyche."
Ego | Shadow
Sacred Progenitor | Tyrannical Progenitor
Old Wise Man | Trickster
Animus | Anima
Meaning | Absurdity
Centrality | Diffusion
Order | Chaos
Opposition | Conjunction
Time | Eternity
Sacred | Profane
Transformation | Fixity
Light | Darkness
"And the essential thing, psychologically, is that in dreams, fantasies, and other exceptional states of mind the most far-fetched mythological motifs and symbols can appear autochthonously at any time, often, apparently, as the result of particular influences, traditions, and excitations working on the individual, but more often without any sign of them. These "primordial images" or "archetypes," as I have called them, belong to the basic stock of the unconscious psyche and cannot be explained as personal acquisitions. Together they make up that psychic stratum which has been called the collective unconscious. The existence of the collective unconscious means that individual consciousness is anything but a tabula rasa and is not immune to predetermining influences. On the contrary, it is in the highest degree influenced by inherited presuppositions, quite apart from the unavoidable influences exerted upon it by the environment. The collective unconscious comprises in itself the psychic life of our ancestors right back to the earliest beginnings. It is the matrix of all conscious psychic occurrences, and hence it exerts an influence that compromises the freedom of consciousness in the highest degree, since it is continually striving to lead all conscious processes back into the old paths."
Every weapon wielded and scrap of armor worn, every place visited, person met, symbol seen and pondered, every thought formed and lost and formed again... each one has a place in this story. Haven't you ever wondered what it all means? Where the path leads? Many have followed it before, countless numbers. And soon, it will be your turn. To walk. To see.
To understand.
A dream of a metaphor made starkly, an allegory discussed in study of ontology, in Darkness not unkind. It leaves behind a warped, barely-real data fragment to mark its passing. There is a voice that echoes across the Darkness, and it asks this question: what is the purpose of it all? And there is another voice that calls back and says: listen, I will tell you a purpose. I will tell you of a Final Shape. Look: there are a hundred gildings for this story. It comes down to one key matter. Beings in suffering crave purpose to carry them through. The tyrant consumed by ennui or the disenfranchised struggling simply to survive—it is the state of mind, the pain which cries out: give me a reason I should suffer so! Let us speak of power and choices. A man comes to a crossroads and asks of the sky, "Which road shall I take?" There is no answer from the sky, nor the wind, nor the earth beneath his feet. But another wanderer on the road, coming from behind and hearing the question, says, "I know the way. You should take the dexter road." If the man agrees, he puts himself in the wanderer's power, ceding his own choices for the implicit promise that this is the correct road, the safe road. And if he disagrees? Let us say that the wanderer draws a knife. The man may therefore be made to take the dexter road. But now if the knife goes away, the man will certainly flee. And perhaps even if the knife remains, the man may tire of being threatened and decide the risk is worth fleeing. In this way, the wanderer erodes their own power. If the wanderer says, "The wind has said that you should take the road of my choosing," will the man accept the choice made for him? And if the wanderer says, "Behold, I have seen that the meaning of suffering lies along the dexter road," will the man give away his own power for longer? Is it not easier to accept the guidance of a stranger when the path ahead is unknown?

METHOD_MESSELA/.- Lyrics
This is my translation of Stellatram’s rendition of the Song METHOD_MESSELA/. from their album Hymmnos Chronicle. It is a very context-heavy song, as well as one that’s very important to me, so I wanted to do my own translation of it. I included the original Hymmnos and Japanese lyrics if anyone is curious.
For those who don’t know, Messela mode is a forbidden mode shift of Infel Phira that essentially gives the Maiden of Mio control over all the IPDs. It is very heavily implied that Infel used it to start her war of revenge against the Goddess and the people, given the circumstances, the description in the setting book, and Toukousphere 85, where she evades a question about it.
The lyrics on the left seem to be Infel’s parts, while the indented lyrics are the IPDs she is controlling. I suspect they wrote it as a fusion, which makes sense given the context, and also there are two feelings contained sections for it (one that seems to be the story programmed in the hymn crystal, one that’s clearly Infel’s own feelings) Thus I translated 神 as “Goddess” here.
I also did a translation of the feelings contained section as well as the explanations Stellatram provided, but this got long, so I’ll be putting them in another post, right here: LINK
The flame’s blazing light shines to wipe away sorrow
The exalted voices gather under the guide of Mio
The cracked land whispers to me-
Place judgement on this lowly world
The sound of despair reverberates
It is the breath of the evil Goddess that weaves the night
The girl places her hand on the forbidden box, and makes a wish to dispel the night-
Grant me the power to kill death
It is a forbidden box
It must never be touched
Or else the world would be stricken with fear
A form emerged from the forbidden box- it was another me
Another me who wished to shatter the canopy enveloping this ugly world
Inside that box were 1000 gears for weaving a new land of ideals
With this, we’ll make our paradise a reality
The awakened fear weaves the Holy Maiden’s form
She whispers in the girl’s ear-
With this, we’ll make our paradise a reality
The assembled gears desiring revolution grant the girl the power to bring forth a dark order
Give punishment for crime
Give despair!
Give judgement to sinners
Give judgement!
Give servitude to the incompetent
Give faith!
Give the iron hammer to malice
Give war!
The 1000 gears gather under 1 guide, and the Song leads the way to the seed’s desired form
Rejoice and Sing
Under the sacred theory of love, in which the world’s irrationality bug-will not be permitted
The world weaves grief anew
The chain of sadness remains unbroken
Only destruction will heal the land
The sound of control reverberates
It is the breath of the powerful people that wards off the night
The girl uses the power of the box to slay the night
Grant me the power to command death
It is a forbidden box
It must never be doubted
Or else the world would be stricken with despair
The girl has nothing to lose if the one that should have been saved is dead
O retainers
Rage, cry out, and awaken
Now conquer, let the footsteps of this army resound in the inviolable sanctuary
Sing, use all the power you have
We will take back that which was stolen
We are of the Divine Maiden
We will happily become a Song
We are the Divine Maiden’s spear
We will happily Sing
We are the Divine Maiden’s hope, as well as her grief
Give death to death
Give fear!
Give pain even further pain
Give suffering!
Give control a leader
Give grief!
Give atonement for fault
Give condemnation!
The 1000 gears gather under 1 guide, and the Song attains the seed’s desired form
Rejoice and Sing
Under the sacred theory of love, cast away by paradise
The world strives for a new countenance
The awakened transformation will remain unstopped
Only sleep will heal the land
The clattering of the gears advances the second hand towards a new world
Even the Goddess is entranced by the Song conducted and tuned with care
Thus the ancient canopy is repainted under a new theory

Pharm House maybe producing a re-press of this LHP-024 - W.R.M. - Into The Gaping Maw of the Summer Solstice Initially slated for release Fall 2016, this cassette was pushed back substantially. Recorded in June of 2016, this is W.R.M.’s noise debut, recording the sounds of a forest dying and cranking them into oblivion. Twenty copies made in over sized bags, a few remain in the new webstore LHP-025 - Gag - ! LIVE ! VHS of Gag playing in Fort Worth summer of 2014. Unknown quantities made. But, as we have seen, suffrage was only one small aspect of what the W.R.M. was all about. A hundred years of brilliant personalities and important events have also been erased from American history. The women orators who fought off mobs, in the days when women were not allowed to speak in public, to attack Family, Church, and State, who traveled on poor railways to cow towns of the West to talk to small groups of socially starved women, were quite a bit more dramatic than the Scarlett O' Haras and Harriet Beecher Stowes and all the Little Women who have come down to us. Sojourner Truth and Harriet Tubman, freed slaves who went back time and again, with huge prices on their heads, to free other slaves on their own plantations, were more effective politically than the ill-fated John Brown. But most people today have never even heard of Myrtilla Miner, Prudence Crandall, Abigail Scott Duniway, Mary Putnam Jacobi, Ernestine Rose, the Claflin sisters, Crystal Eastman, Clara Lemlich, Mrs. O. H. P. Belmont, Doris Stevens, Anne Martin. And this ignorance is nothing compared to ignorance of the lives of women of the stature of Margaret Fuller, Fanny Wright, the Grimké sisters, Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Harriet Stanton Blatch, Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Alice Paul.
And yet we know about Louisa May Alcott, Clara Barton, and Florence Nightingale, just as we know about, rather than Nat Turner, the triumph of Ralph Bunche, or George Washington Carver and the peanut. The omission of vital characters from standard versions of American history in favor of such goody-good models cannot be tossed off. Just as it would be dangerous to inspire still-oppressed black children with admiration for the Nat Turners of their history, so it is with the W.R.M.: The suspicious blanks in our history books concerning feminism—or else the confusion of the whole W.R.M. with the (conservative) suffrage movement or the reformist women's groups of the Progressive Era—is no accident.
It is part of a backlash we are still undergoing in reaction to the first feminist struggle. The few strong models allowed girls growing up in the fifty-year silence have been carefully chosen ones, women like Eleanor Roosevelt, of the altruistic feminine tradition, as opposed to the healthily selfish giants of the radical feminist rebellion. This cultural backlash was to be expected. Men of those days grasped immediately the true nature of a feminist movement, recognizing it as a serious threat to their open and unashamed power over woman. They may have been forced to buy off the women's movement with confusing surface reforms—a correction of the most blatant inequalities on the books, a few changes of dress, sex, style ("you've come a long way, baby"), all of which coincidentally benefited men. But the power stayed in their hands.

One of our favorite audiobooks is Herman Melville’s Moby Dick read by William Hootkins. I have to admit that the first time I sat down to read Moby Dick I didn’t get very far but after listening to Hootkins’ audiobook, it has become one of my favorite novels. He manages to bring out all the humor and excitement in this great work of American Literature.
I learned several new words in the process of listening to Moby Dick. One that I especially enjoyed was dyspeptic.
In the course of his novel, Melville refers to both dyspeptic whales and dyspeptic people.
“So soon as I hear that such or such a man gives himself out for a philosopher, I conclude that, like the dyspeptic old woman, he must have “broken his digester.”
“Who would think, then, that such fine ladies and gentlemen should regale themselves with an essence found in the inglorious bowels of a sick whale! Yet so it is. By some, ambergris is supposed to be the cause, and by others the effect, of the dyspepsia in the whale. How to cure such a dyspepsia it were hard to say, unless by administering three or four boat loads of Brandreth’s pills, and then running out of harm’s way, as laborers do in blasting rocks.”
Dyspepsia is a Greek word:
δυσπεψία, ἡ (Noun), indigestion
δύσπεπτος, ον, (Adjective) hard to digest
Plato uses it as an adjective in the Timaeus (83a) when he is discussing anatomy and diseases.
Plato. Platonis Opera, ed. John Burnet. Oxford University Press. 1903.
[82e] … For when all the substances become reversed and corrupted, they begin by destroying the blood itself, and then they themselves cease to supply [83a] any nourishment to the body; for they move through the veins in all directions and no longer preserve the order of their natural revolutions, being at enmity with themselves because they have no enjoyment of themselves, and being at war also with the established and regular constitution of the body, which they corrupt and dissolve. Therefore all the oldest part of the flesh that is decomposed becomes tough and is blackened by the continued combustion; and because it is eaten away on every side it is bitter, and therefore dangerous [83b] in its attack on any part of the body that is not as yet corrupted.
Plato. Plato in Twelve Volumes, Vol. 9 translated by W.R.M. Lamb. Cambridge, MA, Harvard University Press; London, William Heinemann Ltd. 1925.
It is a compound word. That is, it is composed of two parts that work together to express one overall meaning. In this case we have a prefix attached to the main root. The stem – πεπτ-ός, ή, όν – means cooked. You may also be familiar with ‘pepto’ from the over-the-counter medication used to treat digestive problems – Pepto-Bismol. I’m not sure that’s where the ‘Pepto’ part comes from but it’s certainly an interesting connection.
The prefix - δυσ- negates the word that follows. This prefix is used commonly in Greek in examples like:
ἥλιος, ὁ - Helios – is the Greek word for the sun (cf. Helium, heliocentric …)
δῠσ-ήλιος, ον means sunless
γάμος, ὁ, - A wedding
δύσγᾰμ-ος, ον, - ill-wedded,
We use this same prefix in English in words like:
dystopia - the opposite of utopia
dysphemism - The opposite of euphemism.
dyslexia - from δυσ + λέγω – difficult to read
Apparently dyselxia comes about from a confusion of Greek λέγω ‘say, speak’ and Latin lego – ‘read’
and other medical terms like dysentery, dysplasia …
So literally δύσπεπτος, ον refers to food that is difficult to digest because it is not cooked. Then it comes to mean food that is generally difficult to digest and therefore as a noun, the condition of indigestion. It is also used metaphorically in Greek to refer to people who refuse to be assimilated and as we’ve seen in Moby Dick – to be used of people who are generally irritable, grouchy, or disagreeable whether or not this is caused by indigestion.
Let us strive not to be dyspeptic! And next time you are feeling sick, whether or not you reach for some Pepto-Bismol, perhaps reflecting on the history and etymology of your dyspepsia will make you feel a little better ☺

Wondering if I should write her a song back... Anyway. Reading the Meno. This is how Socrates responds to being called a 'torpedo ray'. If I remember correctly, Plato wanted to be a tragedy writer before he met Socrates. There is a lot in his dialogues which is funny. I picked out this small fragment. Just two people talking. Philosophy is not a mystery. Best wishes! Quote from: 'Plato in Twelve Volumes, Vol. 3' translated by W.R.M. Lamb.
