What a difference 64 years makes juxtaposition of Volkswagen 1500 Variant, 1961 & Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer, 2025. The Type 3 was VW's first long roof station wagon, it was called the  'Squareback' for the US market. The ID.7 Tourer is their new electric wagon that becomes the flagship among electric Volkswagen models. The ID.7 Pro comes with a new 86 kWh power pack that provides a  WLTP range of 685 km (426  miles).

P.S. In Latvia, our local Volkswagen dealers made a little bit more reasonable price tag -35 000 euros with a subsidy included for ID.3 Pro with 63 / 59 kWh battery... Previous price - 46 040 euros was absolutely insane... and unrealistic...! Competition works - Chinese GWM ORA 03+ with 63 kWh battery has a price tag - 32 995 euros...

Volkswagen ID.3 Harlequin Edition, April 1, 2024. The Harlequin paint made famous in the 1990s with the Volkswagen Polo is to return as an option for the electric ID.3 with an electroluminescent twist. The ID.3 Harlequin’s panels will light up and pulse in response to beats from the car’s sound system and integrate with the new ChatGPT functionality being rolled out across the Volkswagen range. According to data released by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), the Volkswagen brand sold 16,611 EVs in China during the first quarter of 2023. This is a significant decrease from the 27,101 units sold in Q1 2022 and a 56% decrease from the 38,437 units sold in Q4 2022(..)

P.S. European legacy automakers, who ignored affordable electric car mass production technologies, are not ready for a real competitive battle with local leading electric car manufacturers, neither in terms of price nor technical parameters of new cars. Most likely, the new trend that has appeared in China's domestic car market will soon spread to other car markets as well. With Chinese electric car companies entering the European car market, as well as Tesla expanding production volumes, VW will soon start losing market share and profits in its own home market as well...VW ID.3 is way to expensive...
