IT'S ART ANALYSIS TIME

so, I am not an 'official' analyst by any means. However I have many (amazing) opinions on this piece of art.

1. The collaboration is beyond amazing. I can tell the difference between the two art styles, but the way you two synchronized your styles, it matches and blends beautifully.

2. I want to hop straight–or not straight ;)–into the FACIALS. Oh my stars...this art has beautiful facials. The face of the character is probably (if not definitely) the most important part when drawing fan art of a character. Maybe not always, but certainly for this piece. We see hurt in Baz's eyes, definitely some confusion coming from him too, because he wasn't expecting Simon to kiss him, and I don't think Simon was expecting to kiss him either. We see on Simon's face, even though his eyes are closed, a sense of hurting, and not just from the tears drawn. This might just be me, but I see/feel a sense of 'finally!' coming from Simon, but that might just be me. I'm sort of strange. I would also like to compliment the way our lover's lips meet. It gives me butterflies in my stomach!

3. HANDS, HANDS, HANDS! I absolutely ADORE the hands. The way Simon is grasping Baz by the side of his head/neck...chef's kiss. And then...Simon's other hand is on the other side of Baz's face and that sets me off with joy. Like I said before, I'm sort of strange. Little things excite me. And now we take a look at Baz's hands. He was clearly clutching himself before due to the whole Nicodemus scene, but as Simon is kissing him, his left hand comes up, possibly in surprise. But it also looks as though he's ready to close his own eyes and put his own hand on Simon's face. Surprise or readiness? You can pick :).

4. alright, I'm pretty sure that this has nothing to do with the art, but I just wanted to say I LOVED how Simon was wearing Baz's jumper/sweater. Kissing Baz in his own sweater...GAH! I'm in my feels.

5. The fire. Oh my stars! The fire was a substantial part of that scene in the book because...well, Baz's said 'suicidal funk'. The way you two have added the perfect drama to the piece is incredible. Hands down, this kissing scene will be one of my favorites in all of book history. the fire is dramatic and the way it reflects off our lover's skin and clothing...another chef's kiss to you both.

6. This is simple, but the body positioning is impeccable. I truly mean that. It's not awkward but it's not unrealistic. It's perfectly put at a logical and accurate angle. Nothing looks out of place. It's harmonic. (maybe I'm going overboard, but once again, little things excite me.)

7. Hair. I don't know what else to say to this. The hair is beyond marvelous. I don't know how else to put it. Marvelous. Accurate. Creative, in a sense. (maybe I do know how else to put it.)

OKIE DOKIE!

well, that was my input, and I don't know if it could even be called an analysis. maybe this was me spitting my opinions. regardless, lots of love and praise to these amazing artists on EVERYTHING they do. This was truly an amazing piece.

Ow. V. This one gives me *feelings* you know how I feel about feeling things. 🤨😜. Seriously tho. This was always a particularly painful scene in WS that I tend to skim over in my deep seated quest to avoid negative emotions. You made me stop & look. (Of course my favorite part is Simon’s fantasy about actually comforting Baz because that’s what I craved while reading that god forsaken book...for them to love & take care of each other) Your depiction got me to look at the scene as a whole, the good and the bad. This is lovely.

He’s walking past me on the way to the bathroom. I catch his arm. “Are you bleeding?”

I started drawing this ages ago, but only recently, with Rainbow’s tweets about AWTWB being about emotional and physical intimacy, did I think it was time to finish it. This is one of those unsung intimate moments between Simon and Baz in Wayward Son, notable for all the ways it shows that there is indeed intimacy there, but it’s stunted by their individual issues. Baz resists being undressed because it will reveal both his indestructibility and his wounds. Simon wants to comfort Baz but has no idea how to cross that threshold. And yet, despite everything, the wounds are laid bare and Simon’s hands are coated in the evidence of their inescapable proximity to each other.

Hi! Do you have any advice on drawing hands, for some reason I really struggle.

Hello! First of all, YOU ARE NOT ALONE. Hands are difficult because they aren’t quite as easily broken down geometrically when they’re at their most expressive, but I’ve learned a few tricks that have helped my brain wrap itself around hand anatomy.

Disclaimer: This is EXTREMELY distilled because I’m trying to fit it in a single ask. There are, as always, more granular tutorials you can look at on the web, and I recommend you take a look at them as well. Consider this a very quick cheat sheet for when you have taken some time to immerse yourself in the detailed exploration of drawing hands.

Also, forgive me for how quick and dirty this is. I didn’t have enough time to deliver DaVinci. LOL

Some things this graphic glosses over that you’ll want to remember: The length of each finger’s segments (the proximal, middle and distal phalanxes for you anatomy fans out there) gets progressively shorter. Do yourself a favor and examine a skeleton hand, which will give you a sense of finger movement and proportions.

That said, practice drawing hands A LOT. A google search will give you a lot of pictures of hands to draw from, and you can employ the tips above in nailing the correct alignment and gesture.

Wishing you loads of luck, my friend! Be PATIENT with yourself and remember that even seasoned artists struggle with hands all the time. Do your best and, if you feel so inclined, share your progress!

😭😭😭LOOK AT THIS GORGEOUSNESS!

Am very excited, because this was my first image colored in Procreate! Looking forward to playing with this tool a lot more (because boy do I still have a lot to learn). That said…

Baz pulls off the road suddenly and hits the brakes, fishtailing halfway into a ditch, then gets out of the car like he’s just parallel-parked it, and walks towards the trees.
