Antho: how long is our break?

Neta: well this is a 5-hour shift so your break is going to be 30 minutes during an 8-hour shift. You know when you finally get the acclimated to everything it will be an hour. Any more questions?

Neta: any questions that pertain to the job and not my physical appearance?

Neta: All right then. So I'm going to be in the back to-

but the video is sparking a lot of conversation about the relations between people who were once below the surface and those who lived on the surface

(random jellyfish): I think the relationship between those who lived in the sewe- underground and those who lived on the surface it seems pretty good. I haven't seen any conflict. I haven't seen any....... Ill will from any group or party.

(Random sea urchin): I feel like we want to pretend that everything is okay and it's not. I will acknowledge that we have made a lot of progress but there is still tension that and still needs to be addressed.

As an octarian business owner I always thrive to make a safe and welcoming environment for everyone who walks in and today was not that day. The shocking and upsetting comments that were said by a customer was unacceptable and heartbreaking and just not the energy that I thrive to have. She will no longer be allowed in any of my locations starting today.

Thoughts on the live action one piece

Spoilers 😉

Yes, I binged all 8 episodes, and have work today and can’t see out my eyes but worth it.

I’ll try to keep it short.

Luffys character was immaculate. The way Inaki portrayed him and brought this man to life was so amazing to see. Oda really saw Luffy in him and he did not disappoint. The moves looked great, CGI was on point for a live action, and they really did break the curse.

Zoro’s character was beautiful. I love that he was more serious, and him throwing up the finger in his first scene?! I’m star struck. You can say what you want about the live action, but theres no denying this cast was perfect for these characters and the fight scenes were choreographed to the point where it looked so clean.

Nami 🥳 The emotion! The conflict! I absolutely love the way she had more action scenes and was more open with her care for the crew early on. Nami has always been my favourite character, and Emily did her justice.

I will be listening to her song on repeat.

Ussop! Ussop! Are you serious! Why do I love you in every reality! And Ussop and Kaya! The kiss! The scream I let out! I died😵‍💫 I wish he had more shooting scenes, but his true potential wasn’t seen until later in the anime so I can’t complain, cause season two Ussop is gonna pop off.

Sanji😳 First off, live action Sanji has a hold on me😮‍💨 Like what happened to the guy who couldn’t get any girls. Ngl, was keeping an eye out for the blonde at table 8, looking out for my competition👀 His kicks were so smooth and all, and I mean ALL, his fight scenes were perfect. Like how did they do this. You can see the care and effort he put into his character.

Buggy? I love our unhinged clown. His making a circus with trapped towns people. His CGI? Amazing. The little goof we were left with when they trapped his parts in the chest made me cackle!

The pacing of the show was done so well. I was worried that 8 episodes wouldn’t be enough (and I was right where’s season two I want Vivi), but the retelling was more then I hoped for. I will always love the anime more, as most of us know there’s not enough episodes in the series, but the live action did great in that respect. I did miss some of the characters they had to cut to make it flow better though. The ussop pirates live on in our hearts

Don’t get me wrong, there was some scenes I missed from the original show, like Zoro lifting Luffy’s cage, Nami burning her hands on Buggys cannon fuse, Nami stabbing Ussop. BUT, they wouldn’t have fit in this version of the show.

They did give us Zoro lifting the safe like he did Luffys cage which was cool. And Nami holding Ussops hand when Zoro was fighting, Nami showing up for the fight rather then leaving. I love her. Even though Nami didn’t get to show her care through the actions of saving Zoro or stabbing her own hand, she was still able to show those emtions through different actions. The hand holding with Ussop rather then the stabbing of her hand was so good to see. This version of Nami seemed more fragile in a way, so this suited her version well.

It was like watching One Piece for the first time all over again. I didn’t know what would happen. Getting more marines, and Garps relationship to Luffy being revealed so early in the series to cause tension within the crew *chef’s kiss* And Koby? ‘Be a good pirate.’? Like I love you? Not doing what Garp asked? Standing up for his beliefs? You are going to be a good Marine. You’ll be the greatest 💕

The relationships they explored?

First off Ussop and Kaya 😵 I love them so much. Them talking to the straw hats about their relationship was so cute, and Zoro saying it wasn’t his area of expertise 💅🏻✨ Jokes 👀

Nami being besties with Kaya😍 Her telling Kaya not to let someone tell her how to run her life, drawing connections to her own situation, telling Kaya not to be trapped. Her returning the treasure! I loved it so much. Ussop’s and Nami’s friendship has always been the one I cherished in the crew, and for Nami to support Kaya, and Ussop to see how Nami was good to his girl I feel will only strengthen their relationship.

Nami and Zoro besties? Didn’t know I could love them more.

Nami caring so much for Zoro after his fight with Mihawk showed her love for her new friends, and mirrored her care she had in the original series where she saved him from drowning at Arlong park. Even though we didn’t get the original scenes, they were supplemented with new scenes that held the same feelings.

Zosan- I mean Zoro and Sanji. The wings of the pirate king? I love their bickering in any universe it seems. The fish men fight was so good, them being unbothered with the guys trying to kill them as they fought with each other was so them. And Zoro licking his plate clean and saying Sanji’s food was okay? Not bad for a waiter huh?

And the most important pair. Captain and his first mate. I just loved how many times they reiterated that Zoro is Luffys right hand man 🥰 Luffy not stepping in the way of Zoros dream was beautiful, and his care afterwards reminded me of how he cared for Nami when she got sick in the original series. Asking Sanji to cook his favourite? So cute. He couldn’t decide if it was best for Zoro to eat or sleep or drink and him stressing for Zoro. All amazing. I’ve used amazing so many times but its just the word I need to explain it. Zoro waking up, Luffy engulfing him. I could go on and on.

Nami and Luffy? The amount of love I have for them. They were everything I wanted from them. The scene. THE scene. Beautiful.

I could go on and on about this show, but sadly I have work. Please show this version love, and don’t go into expecting the same series. It is different. It’s its own version and deserves its own category.

Characters: female reader, Strawhat crew, Vivi Word count: 2.3 Cw: Alabasta Spoilers A/N: After months of being on hiatus!!! Shes back :) A short one, but the updates will hopefully be coming more frequently!

You slept with the Strawhats that night, though it was considerably more cold without Ace present. You cursed him for not waiting until morning to depart, but you managed to fall asleep for a few hours despite the desert chill. 

The Strawhats trekked quietly through the desert for the entirety of the next day. Most people were too exhausted to speak, but Sanji offered several times to carry you through the sand if you wanted. You politely declined, though every time he asked you got a little bit closer to saying yes. 

It wasn’t until sunset that you came across another town. At first you thought it was rubble like the first one you had come across, but Vivi explained that you were now resting in Yuba, an old oasis town. 

“I know it’s a little dried up,” an old man called from the bottom of a hole, gathering your all’s attention. “But you’re welcome to stay if you need a place to rest.”

“We’re looking for the rebel army,” Vivi explained. “We heard they were in this city.”

The old man scoffed. “Those fools left a long time ago.”

Luffy’s mouth dropped to the ground. “They WHAT?!”

“With the oasis and the supply runs dried up, the rebel army packed up and moved its base to Katorea. Hope you’re not planning to join it. They’re a bunch of no good, rotten-”

“Katorea?” you questioned. You were fairly certain you knew where that was on a map. It was back where you started. And judging by Vivi’s face, you were correct. 

“That’s impossible,” Vivi muttered, tears welling up in her eyes.

“What’s wrong Vivi?” Luffy asked. “Is Katorea close by?”

“No.” Vivi’s lip was trembling, confirming your suspicions. “It’s an oasis near Nanohana.”

“Vivi?” The old man climbed out of the hole and walked closer to the princess. “Did you say Vivi? Is that you?”

Tears of familiarity streamed down the old man’s face. “You’re alive! Thank goodness! I have faith in his majesty. He’s not someone who would ever betray the kingdom! Oh, Vivi! Please tell me you recognize me. I may have lost some weight, but…”

“Toto?”

“Yes! Oh Vivi, I’m so happy to see you alive and well!” The old man grabbed Vivi, pulling her in for a hug as they both cried. 

“This rebellion is ridiculous,” Toto said, holding the princess tight. “They intend to settle things once and for all with their next attack. Their backs are to the wall. You must stop their foolish behavior, I beg you!”

“We’ll stop them,” Vivi promised. “We’ll find a way.”

“Oh, thank you!” Toto cried. “Please, you all rest at the inn. You can get started on your journey tomorrow.”

You changed into the pajamas the old man had offered you and gave yourself a good, long stare in the bathroom mirror. You had only been with the Strawhats for a few days, and you were already so unsure of yourself and your decisions thus far. You knew that not every pirate was like this crew, but they made you feel hope. Maybe they weren’t so bad after all. Maybe you could give them a chance. 

That chance was ruined the moment you stepped into the bedroom, when a pillow came hurling at your face and smacked into you with surprising force. You shot a glare around the room, but nobody seemed to notice. All of the boys were screaming at each other, beating one another with their own pillow. The girls were hiding in the loft, and you made a sprint up the stairs to safety, dodging a few flying pillows on the way. 

“Those morons,” Nami groaned, and you grabbed another stray pillow that flew at you all. 

“I have a pillow, shall we call it a night? The boys can figure themselves out, I think.”

Nami and Vivi both looked at you for a moment, and then burst into laughter. The three of you receded into the loft room, which held an extra large king bed.

Normally you would’ve opted to sleep on the floor, but after a few nights on the sand, your back was begging for the relief of a soft mattress. 

“Do you think we can all fit?” you asked, trying not to get your hopes up. 

“Of course!” Vivi and Nami said in sync, which caused you all to laugh. Those two were always in sync.

“I’ll sleep in the middle,” Vivi offered, jumping onto the bed. 

Both you and Nami quickly followed suit and joined her beneath the covers. The bed was plenty big for the three of you to sleep comfortably, and you could feel your eyelids starting to close the moment you laid down. Nami clicked off the bedside lamp, and the three of you were plunged into darkness.

“The boys won’t ask, but I’m not scared,” Nami said to the darkness. “You’re not going to betray us once we get back to civilization, are you?”

“No,” you answered. 

It was the truth, too. You were pretty sure you’d do almost anything you could to make sure the Strawhats got away from the Navy unscathed this time. Not because of your promise to Ace, but because of how much you believed in them. Even if it wasn’t conventional, their hearts were mostly in the right place.  

“Good,” Nami whispered. “Because I don’t want to have to make Zoro beat you up. I kinda like having you around.”

“Don’t get used to it,” you mumbled, and you closed your eyes. You could hear Nami and Vivi give a light giggle as you swiftly slipped into sleep. 

You didn’t mind sleeping with the Strawhats anymore. Despite the noise the boys caused, you found it easier to fall asleep amongst them than any night on your navy ship. You chose to blame it on the amount of energy you were exerting each day. You refused to believe it was any other reason.  

When you woke again, you could feel a person pressed against you. As you opened your eyes, the soft morning light shone in from the window to reveal the blue haired princess curled tightly against you, Nami pressed against her. Between Nami and Vivi was a ball of brown fur: Chopper, you realized after a moment. He must’ve crawled into bed with you all at some point during the night. 

You shifted slightly, trying to find a way to silently escape the bed without waking anyone up, but the moment you moved, Vivi’s eyes instantly popped open. 

“What time is it?” She sat up, looking around for any indication of the answer to her question.

“The sun just started to rise, I think.”

“We need to move,” Vivi said. “It’s going to take at least three days to get to Katorea. If we hurry, we can get there before the rebellion leaves.”

You hopped out of bed and towards the steps to the bunkhouse. “I’ll go wake the boys, you take your time getting ready.”

“Y/N?” 

“What’s up?” You looked back at the princess, who seemed to be nervous. 

“I’m sorry for the things I said in frustration about the Navy the other day,” Vivi said. “I don’t think you’re like that.”

You gave her a genuine smile. “Don’t sweat it. The Navy is far from perfect, I can acknowledge that. I hope I can make it better in the future. But I’m glad that you found help in the meantime.”

Vivi looked over at Nami and Chopper, who were still fast asleep. “They are an unusual group, aren’t they?”

You gave a light chuckle. “They are definitely not what I was expecting.”

Waking the boys was harder than you could imagine. Nobody would move for anything you said or did. You screamed, threw pillows at their head, and even smacked them a few times. You weren’t making any progress at all until Nami came down to assist. She took one glance at them and shook her head in disappointment. 

“What’s that?” Nami yelled. “There’s a helpless girl cooking meat in Sanji’s kitchen with a sword? And now the Merry is on fire?!”

All four eyes snapped open and the boys stood in front of their navigator with full attention. 

“What’s happening?!” they cried in unison, all equally panicked. 

She gave them a glare. “We’re leaving.”

The boys all grumbled, but they gathered their few belongings and packed up to set off across the desert back to Nanohana. You all thanked the old man for the hospitality, and he gave Luffy some Yuba water, straight from the oasis that had been buried by sand long ago. 

You hadn’t walked more than an hour before Luffy began another one of his temper tantrums. He sat down in the sand, folded his arms, and began to pout. 

“I quit.”

You stared at the pirate in shock as Vivi scoffed. “What do you mean?”

“I want to kick Crocodile’s ass. We can’t do anything in Katorea anyway. There’s a rebellion. That rebellion won’t stop Crocodile. Stopping a rebellion is more of Marine work. I’m a pirate and I want to beat up Crocodile. Vivi, you want it so nobody gets hurt. You want everyone to stay safe and sound. But we're up against a warlord and a rebellion. Don’t you think you’re being too optimistic thinking we can do both?”

Sanji stepped in front of Vivi, trying to shield her from his captain’s words. “Now hang on a minute, Luffy-”

“How can you say that!?” Vivi cried, storming past Sanji and to Luffy. “What’s wrong with not wanting people to die?!”

“People die.”

Vivi slapped the pirate so hard she made him fall backward. “Stop talking like that! That’s exactly what we’re trying to stop here! Nobody has done anything wrong except Crocodile! Nobody deserves to die!”

Luffy grabbed her arms and pulled her down on the ground, and then rolled over on top of her and pinned her against the sand. “Then why are you putting your life on the line?!”

You started to move, desperate to protect the Princess, but Zoro held you back. “Hang on a minute,” he mumbled, his eyes on the fight. “Trust him.”

You were tense against his grip, but you stayed where you were.

Vivi pushed Luffy off of her and pounced on top of him, immediately beginning to punch his face. 

“As if putting your single life on the line is enough!” Luffy spat at her, taking the punches. 

“What else should I put on the line?” Vivi shrieked, her fists still making contact with Luffy’s face. “I don’t have-”

Luffy grabbed her hands, stopping her mid punch. You could see the princess was completely defeated by the massive undertaking that was bestowed upon her. 

“I don’t have anything else I can put on the line,” she whispered, her voice breaking.

Luffy pushed the princess off of him, more gentle with her this time, and sat up to face her. “At least try putting all of our lives on the line together! Aren’t we friends?!”

Vivi finally let out the tears that had been welling up in her, sobs coming from her as she buried her face in her hands. Nami rushed to her, rubbing her shoulders in an attempt to comfort her. 

Luffy however, was not one for comfort. Instead, he stood up and brushed his hat off. “You can cry those kinds of tears. I know this hurts you most of all. Now tell me where Crocodile is.”

Zoro finally released you, and you nodded to him in thanks. It seemed that Luffy knew what he was doing, even if nobody else did. You wondered what kind of bond had been formed between the swordsman and his captain for trust to exist so easily. 

Once Vivi settled down, you all changed course slightly, heading for Rain Dinners and Crocodile now. The walk was spent in silence until you saw the pyramid that signified your arrival to Crocodile’s territory. Surely there would be navy men here. You couldn’t be spotted wandering in with the Strawhats during your arrival. 

You cleared your throat, hanging back from the group. “Thank you all for your hospitality, but I can’t arrive with you.”

“What do you mean?” Luffy asked, clearly confused. “Aren’t you joining my crew?”

You gave him a shocked laugh. His question no longer irritated you, but it still did surprise you. “No, Luffy. I’m not.”

“But I want you on my crew!” Luffy whined. 

“She’s Navy, Luffy. Just drop it,” Zoro said, watching you carefully. You gave him a respectful nod. 

“You can come with us!” Sanji fawned. “I’ll protect you and feed you forever!”

“She said no!” Nami yelled, smacking both Luffy and Sanji simultaneously. “Leave her alone!”

You looked to Vivi now, letting the crew fight amongst themselves. “I’ll do what I can to get the Navy involved. I hope we can make a combined effort to take down Crocodile.”

“The Navy?” Zoro scoffed. “Fighting on the side of pirates?” He gave you a smirk, clearly aware of what kind of hole you’d be digging yourself if you presented it that way. 

“I’m not making any promises,” you explained through clenched teeth. “But I’ll do what I can.”

“Thanks for all your help,” Luffy said. “I’m sure we’ll be seeing you soon.” 

“We’ll be enemies,” you warned. 

“Nah!” Luffy flashed his signature smile and readjusted his hat. “We’re friends now!”

Everyone turned away from you and headed off to the city, leaving you alone with flustered cheeks. A pirate shouldn’t be calling you a friend. And yet, that’s exactly what they were. Your heart ached watching them leave, but you were fairly certain Luffy was right: you would meet again soon. The sea had a funny way of making that happen.

I'm so curious about your favourite books (dark romance and otherwise) outside of the devils night series? Are there any other dark romance series that have stood out to you like devil's night? Any standalone that you liked?

Hey!! I wish I had something for you; a long list of recs that we all lose our minds over. That’s the best part of reading and fandoms is the community.

Unfortunately, I don't really.

Devil’s Night caught me at a weird time, when I was going through something. I read a lot of dark romance fanfics when I was an unsupervised teenager with unlimited internet access, and sort of got over it after a while. After I finished DN, I still had time left on my KU subscription, so I tore through a bunch of what was offered. None of it sticks out now, and it’s been a few years since then.

But for you, I went through my old kindle account. These are in no particular order, just as I found familiar names that I've read various series/books from:

Monica Murphy LJ Shen S. Massery Elle Kennedy Saffron A. Kent Callie Hart Sav R. Miller Selena

There's probably a few others that I didn't find, and several authors that I tried but ultimately didn't like anything I picked up enough to finish. I hope that helps, however vague it is.

There is one series that still comes back to me from that time, other than DN. I’ve spoken about it before, but it’s the Crown Pointe series. I would technically call it a dark romance, because of it’s tropes, but I know much darker things are published daily on KU.

Heartless Hero and Stolen Soulmate are great, and I honestly wish that DN’s writing and plot development were similar to Crown Pointe. CP, in general, uses its pages and time to serve the plot and characters better than DN, in my opinion. In CP, after every interaction between the main characters, I knew something had changed or progressed in some way. Even the sex served to change the dynamics, either to the reader or the characters, which made it feel more useful to the story, rather than just shoved in because it’s what’s expected.

(as a bonus point, the couple in Stolen Soulmate is interracial. I know some people were complaining about that with DN.)

The thing that CP lacks that DN has is an interesting cast of characters. I like the main characters for each book well enough. There were some minor characters I would like to get to know better. There were plans for those characters to get their own books, but they were never published for some reason. As you can probably tell, because my conversations about DN usually circle around character relationships and dynamics, interesting characters and plot are more important to me than the overall romance.

I’m currently reading A Walk to Remember. A friend said that the ending is different than the movie. I think it’s probably just their interpretation. Still, I’m reading to find out if I feel the same. So far, I much prefer the movie to the book. The updated setting, the changes made to the characters, and how they interact and progress are more engaging and, honestly, make more sense. As it is, the movie took the basic premise and characters names. But we’ll see. Maybe my thoughts will change. It’s my first Nicolas Sparks and I think it’ll probably be my last.

A few weeks ago, I finished a re-read of Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood. I was once again struck by how successfully the author was able to convince me of the close, lifelong friendship between the four girls, while keeping the focus on Vivi, and her eldest daughter, Sidda, front and center. The movie doesn’t do it justice. Last year sometime, an anon that went by Z asked for stories that featured female friendships, and I still hold this one up as a good example.

Below is a scene that made me want to read the first time the Horsemen were arrested. Was Will excited? Kai stressed? Damon annoyed? Did their dad's fight in the Thunder Bay police station lobby? Was Martin just a baby cop?? Give me all the moments.

But I'm also really fond of this scene on its own.

Don’t know what I am going to read next. I’ve debated before about whether I should post more about what I’m reading or watching. I know that the followers I have are here for DN stuff, though I never meant to limit it to that. As the DN fandom goes quiet on tumblr, I question whether it’s a good time to archive this blog, and leave it as it is. I’d keep it active, but only as a collection of Devil’s Night stuff. Or if I should divert to other topics as I go.

Since you’re following for a reason, I’ll ask you. Keep in mind, if I really wanted to spend the time building a new blog for what I'm reading, I will. It's not a huge deal.

Can I request a ficlet? Group of women (Nami, Robin, f!OC. Tashigi? Vivi? Ikkaku? Anyone you want) + Zoro/Law are stuck on an island with extreme weather: Tropical heat during the day, winter cold during the night. They all wore light clothes during the day, but now when night falls they have to pile up and share body heat. (Basically, a puppy pile of scantily clad women draped over Zoro or Law.) His POV. Bonus round: Sanji is the one who finds them in the morning :D

I'm going with Zoro because I haven't written for him in forever, plus seeing Sanji's face when he finds out Zoro of all people had a bunch of beautiful women around him would be hilarious-

It was hot earlier, but now he could feel his skin getting goosebumps. They had managed to start a fire and were all sitting around it. The crew had decided to split up and of course he had to get stuck with these four: Nami, Robin, Vivi and you.

It's not like he didn't mind being with his friends, but between Nami complaining about the cold and his own hunger, he didn't have the time to be so joyful. He only hoped the others were just as miserable as him (especially the annoying cook-).

Robin was the one to suggest the idea, and in the moment no one seemed to mind or care. Body heat was the best way to stay warm after all, plus he'd fall asleep before any of the girls decide to complain about his alcohol smell or dirty clothes.

The order seemed fine to him: Nami, Vivi, himself, you and then Robin. Nami stating she refused to sleep by the man in case he cops a feel (he had no intention to--) so Vivi quickly interjected she would sleep next to the ginger, which quieter down quite nicely. That only left you and Robin, he didn't understand why Robin had an odd look in her eyes when she suggested to sleep behind you, but again he didn't care, just find a place to sleep and shut up right?

After everyone seemed appeased with the arrangement, he quickly got to sleeping, however he could feel eyes on him from his left side, where you were stationed.

"If you're gonna complain about the smell, shut it. I haven't had a chance to shower yet, I ain't as lucky as girls to smell nice on my own."

You shook your head at his words and smiled softly. "No I was just wondering if you were comfortable, no one really asked you for your opinion on the matter."

He shrugged and continued to keep his eyes closed, it didn't really matter to him, whatever they decided on was fine as long as he could sleep. He appreciated your concern for the matter however and gave you a silent nod in thanks.

As the night continued on, he found himself waking up from the feeling of skin touching his own. Somehow, the other two hand jumbled themselves to be part of yours and Vivi's limbs while they did the same to his. He wanted to move, stretch his body from the awkward sleeping position, but he couldn't. Part of him didn't want to wake any of the girls up, especially you who had happened to fall asleep on his chest. Huffing in annoyance the man laid there for a bit longer before sleep finally found him again.

By the time morning came, he heard a scream making him jolt awake. It wasn't s usual high pitch scream of a girl he expected, rather it sounded very manly. Opening his eyes and looking up, he was faced with a fuming blond who began to demand how he was able to get so lucky. Glaring at the other for waking him up, he only stated he didn't feel like it.

While the girls all woke up from the noise, a part of him was feeling a bit lonely the second after you removed yourself from him. He didn't quite understand why he felt so off, but decided to keep this news to himself, perhaps maybe they will spend another night here and he can find out just for sure why he seemed to miss your body the most.

Tarny part 2 (during the missing time/judes exil.)

I’m assuming that things got worser and worser whilst jude was in exile. The parties and revels Locke held and that Taryn had to host grew larger and larger and more chaotic as time went on, and Locke continued to push and push Taryn boundaries more and more and maybe at first she excused it, since the “fae don't love the way we do.” as Locke always so keen to remind her and love in her eyes comes hand in hand with pain.

I think a part of her felt that if she suffered enough, she would grow more beautiful in Lockes eyes, like the princesses in her stories. Where the prince "finds her beautiful. Beautiful, not despite her suffering, but because of it.” (tls, Pg 70).

Another example of her equating love to pain, is when she meets/talks about Heather and she doesn't understand how

“Vivi could possibly love a mortal girl. She didn’t know anything. She had no magic. She didn’t even seem like she’d done much suffering.”(tls pg 302) I think that the reason their meeting shook her up a little was that it put in to question her views and understanding of love.

She's convinced that if she tries hard enough, suffers hard enough and works hard enough. She can orchestrate her own happily ever after. Which probably entails being married with a nice house and a husband who kissed her when he came home, and a family of her own.... but that’s not Locke for him that would be a boring ending.

Like he mentioned in the lost sisters for him pain, sadness, suffering, anguish are all simply just spices (which are needed for a good story). Which is probably (again l am just assuming) that there marriage was a tug of war. Both of then trying to course correcting there story and trying to mould it to go down the root or path they desire.

Locke pushing her to get a reaction whether its with more extravagant parties, parading new lovers, belittling her to there guests, inviting people she hates or that mock her for being the daughter of a traitor, pushing her take part in things she hates, emotionally manipulating her or just leaving her alone for weeks on end to be with other lovers and to test her love.

I think he gets a rush out of her losing her composure since he says “There it is. That temper you try to hide. You know what fascinates me about you? You’re a hungry person sitting in front of a banquet, refusing to eat.” (tls, Pg 368)

I think maybe at first Taryn was coping with what he was throwing at her but it got harder as time went on, since even before things got real she says.

“Jealousy wasn’t a spice to me then. It was the whole meal and I was gagging it down.”

And that’s not even mentioning his scheming and the darker things he was hiding. That even we as the fans were surprised about, he gave the Ghost as basically a dowry present to Madoc, who by the looks of it had no problem also treating him like a pet and keeping him in his cell until he was needed.

(Imagine what it would have been like, when the ghost came by as Madocs and Lockes messenger boy/errand boy/play thing.)

I think she grew numb along the way, started losing hope and realised that this is it. This is what its always going to be. There no happy ending and probably went from eating fairy fruit as a dare/proof she can fit in, to consuming it as a kind of daily drug, to go into auto pilot mode/escape, to still be the perfect wife and to focus on other things like the house and the garden.

I think the moments she was alone, with only the staff and her enemies and Locke never came home. She finally understand what her mother went through. How she grew to hate the place that she once loved, as it became more like a beautiful cage then a home. A cage she was soon going to be sharing with a baby, who she will have no means to protect, not fully anyway and how all this time she misjudged her and didn’t want to be anything like her. Yet out of all three of her sisters she ended up like her the most.

I think the baby was what changed her and made her snap out of her daze. Realising that it’s not just her anymore, she might be able to settle for Lockes version of love but the baby doesn't deserve to, he/she didn't chose this.

Which led to her confronting Locke, maybe after coming back from being with mistress or partying all night. She probably tried to put her foot down and said things had to change and just let everything she had pushed down out. I think she tried to reason with him but he wasn’t having it and probably tried to convince her to give the baby away (Changling). Swap it with a human family and have the human baby go where all the other human children taken away go. I can imagine him coming up with a bullshit excuse like “this is for us, if you love me you will give it away. A baby is only going to get in our way and we’re not ready for it, years from now it will come back to us. If you love me prove it. its me or the baby.”

Then when flattery didn't work, he tried to tear her down with words and maybe even tried to man handle her or maybe hit her. (Okey so this part may be a bit of a stretch but)

A part of me questions if maybe it wasen't just anger at what he said that made her snap... maybe just maybe he tried pushing the boundaries and she snapped/her training kicked in.

"You got the same instruction in swordplay she did; you must remember some of it. I was never very good. I kept apologizing when I hit anyone,” I reminded her." (Tls)

(Tqon) (ldk for me it gave me the vibe, that there was alot more Taryn left out of the story. That maybe she wasen't ready to talk about yet).

Since she never come off as violent (manipulative..yes at time... but violent not so much). Since she turned out more like Oriana then Madoc and even admitted she looked down on Jude for resorting to violence.

I think if Jude had killed him it wouldn't have been the same. (I think even if it was for her own good she might have resented her.) Since she'd probably wonder if she could have changed him, made it work. Also l don't think Jude or Cardan would have killed him since he's Nicasia and Cardans friend and Jude and Cardan where feeling forgiving in tqon. *l shudder at the thought of him being alive at the end* If he had lived Locke and Tarny would have probably still been in the same vicious cycle and my new favourite baby ship (txg)💓, woulden't have even had a chance to even touch the water.

........moving on.........

For me l now see the lost sister as an apology letter/story that Taryn is going to give to Jude after the queen of nothing. It's her way of apologising in the best way she nows how, through story. I think its something she's written and rewritten and has added to as time/events unfold. 🤔

I think the reason why some fans had trouble forgiving Taryn is because of how its kind of left to interpretation/open ended, our experiences shape how we see it. Reflecting on the book l think that maybe the reason why we never got to see it properly or talk about in the book was partly because of time, the book had alot to cover in only 300pgs and who knows maybe the reason why was that Holly realised that since its a delicate story/senstive topic, it needs its own book to fully do it justice. If it is how l think it is, its an arc that you either have to see for yourself or have some experience in.

If you read this far, l'm surprised, l really tried to keep it short but there was alot on my mind. Thats why it ended up being split into two posts. 😂

Human Shield 

Above all else, there’s a tense silence. Neither person spoke, focused only on the other. Taking in their facial features and body language, gauging each other based on the small actions and twitches of their hand. 

How exactly did Death expect either to respond. One a towering spectator with a thirst for blood and a coward dressed in yellow. 

The walls exudes a sinister scent. Nearly frigid. 

The specter- Lewis glares at Arthur, doing nothing to conceal the fury burning in them. Infact- their fists smoked and burned, their plates of bone glowing pink. Resisting every temptation to subject Arthur to the peril they planned. 

The only reason Arthur wasn’t burnt to a crisp right there-

Was because Death forbade it.

Death, Arthur swallows tightly, blinking back a shudder as he thinks back to the numbing void outside of the walls, an all powerful being who- for some reason- patiently waits for all the souls to return to them. The one who brought both him and the dead spectator into its walls. 

*Why... is it because this spectator wants to kill him?* 

Arthur didn’t know how much of that glare he could handle. 

“S-So...” Arthur swallows, remembering how Death *promised* that no harm shall come to Arthur within their home, but this is a risk sigh the probability of a bomb exploding, but he needed to know, “Why are you after us...?” 

The spectator blinks, pink rings flaming. The fire within them growing by the pinkish glow now coming into their sockets. Muscles tightening, it speaks, “You have a lot of nerve to ask such a thing, Arthur.”

Voice gravely, echoing and sharp, the familiarity punches Arthur in the gut. It was so close to Lewis... Please don’t do this to me And yet, the only thing Arthur can ask himself is Why does it know his name?

“Is it?” Arthur challenges shakily, “you’ve been following us for a while. Are you - you’re after me at least, right?” 

”Who else?” It snaps.

Don’t flinch, Arthur. Don’t flinch. Stay strong.

“The girl.”

”Vivi,” Fuck it knows HER name too? ”I must say, I’m horribly disappointed in you. Disrespecting her that way.” The ghost scowls- seems to, and Arthur can’t help his flinch. 

“If you know anything about the world of supernaturals, then you know the importance of a name.” 

Eyes widen, the spectator tenses, now anxious and ... embarrassed? Holy shit did I actually manage to one up them??

They also notice Arthur’s victory, ”Fine. Whatever.” hissing, the flame of his hair ignites, growing tall and gaseous, ”You’re correct, I have business with you first and foremost.”

“O-kay!” His spine strains from tension, “Well. Uh- who are you?”

”You know who I am.”

Arthur bites his lip, swallowing back, “Mmm... no, no I don’t. Unless it’s from a case that I forgot! Then maybe?” He shrugs, really really hoping that the spectator doesn’t break its one restriction. 

”Excuse me?”

Should he say this? Should he really- oh well! “We- we lost our memories a while ago! A lot of past cases are completely gone for me, and - Vi doesn’t even remember one of our members or-“

”Which.” They take a step closer to him, far too close than Arthur would have liked.

They’re practically chest to chest, and Arthur needs to strain his neck to look past their tie. 

He didn’t know what compelled him to say it, share this crucial information with someone so dangerous.

“Our best friend. He went missing the same night we lost our memorie- AH!” 

When they snatched his wrist, Lightning bolts shoot through his arm. Amplified by the metal joints twisting under the iron grip of the spectator. His wrist now arms length away forcing Arthur impossibly close.

“S-stop..”

”Why should I? Your best friend is missing? You coward! Parading around like you’re innocent! And you feigning ignorance won’t get you anywhere, you knew who I was in the cave, so what’s different?”

The shooting ripples of pain rocket through Arthur’s arm, electrifying his fingers and frying the nerves of his shoulder, but it was far easier to deal with in comparison to the heart pounding anxiety coursing through the rest of him. 

The chase, the drive. Each horrible second of running down that horrifically warm cavern, met only to the blood stained, magenta burnt stalagmites that seared themselves to his memory. Overlapped with the horrible night where Lewis’s screams echoed through every wall. Where the only thing he felt was a cold numbness and endless agony.

What was different? What WAS different?

Voice strained and shrieking, Arthur squints through the tears, “Stop it! Death will-“ 

”I’m already DEAD, Arthur! I fell to your hand, why do you keep running from the truth-?!” Lewis’s burning scalp burst into flame, melting away to reveal the same face Arthur winced at many times before- from photographs, to missing photos, to voicemails, to the cave.

NO! NO NO NO- DONT-!

His grip didn’t falter. 

“Lewis, have you already forgotten our deal?”

Lewis’s grip on his arm releases, allowing Arthur to tumble back- landing on his ass and pinning his metallic arm to his side, praying he could make the electrical sparks hurt any less. So much so that he completely missed the parental tone whispering in his ear. Soothing him with comforting words and encouraging him to- 

Not thinking straight, Arthur lets his metal arm fall numb- ignoring its jittery sparks- and reaches to his prosthetic shoulder. Disengaging the locks far quicker than he should have been able to. 

None of those thoughts came to mind, not until the arm clatters to the floor, and Arthur is left weak and gasping and sobbing from the electrifying burns encapsulating his bones and heart.

“Didn’t I make my conditions clear, Lewis Pepper? Bring you two here, to allow you both peace. And yet, you’ve broken my only rule. What do you have to say for yourself?”

Arthur does his best to not fall over, the horrible pain barely subsiding and offering any leeway for him. 

In fact, if he didn’t hold his breath, he wouldn’t have heard Death’s voice surrounding him. 

Something grazes his fried shoulder, what felt like a hand. Anywhere it’s palm rubs, a soothed feeling simply... took the pain. Relaxed his heart. Brought the overwhelming thoughts to a soft hum and not a powerful shriek. 

Allowed him the strength to turn back and see what scene had taken shape around them. 

No longer was their wall paper and stained glass murals on the wall, instead, everything took on a much more... angelic appearance. Each wall covered in faintly drawn eyes, all blinking and focusing on them all.
