it is funny though how kids' shows are so so so careful about death, no one's ever killed except MAYYYYBE the big bad, all those random side characters are fine, here have a quick shot of them before we leave just so you know they really did survive that 50-foot drop into a stormy sea,

and meanwhile kids' books nearly all agree that it's not an adventure until it has a body count.

#to be clear I don't mean the heroes killing people #that's frankly a separate question #but bad guys come with collateral damage #even if they're nameless extras who are never described as more than a body in the street #and quite often the friends the hero meets along the way #will not all make it to the end #edit: actually I do also mean the heroes killing people #atla being so so so careful to show random mooks surviving and having the fire nation take prisoners all the time #vs animorphs going 'yeah we kill people. yeah we've got ptsd. what of it'#vs that one vivian vande velde book I read where the protagonist is really really stressed #about creeping up on a mook with a rock to bash him on the head #bc *what if she kills him?* she's just a teenager she doesn't know how brain trauma works she doesn't want to be a murderer #to be clear animorphs and this book are on the same page

#mine musings #liveblogging link click #link click #link click spoilers #yingdu episode 2 spoilers in the next tags:#for a show whose whole schtick is about resolving personal regrets #we never actually. found out what the deal is with S1E1's client #like we know about emma but emma is just incidental to the case. she's not the client #the client wanted the que de games scandal #all other cases had a pretty clear “reason” for the job and they're all personal regrets #noodle shop. earthquake arc. siwen. doudou case. even xu shanshan. EVEN LI TIANCHEN #cosplayer girl and the rich friend who got scammed and even vivian #might just be overthinking it but. you know #in hindsight it's just odd we never found out who the S1E1 client was. they're the only ones we don't know #but link click will spend a whole episode talking about every client's backstory if they could #i'm thinking the vein attack is what should've happened normally but for some reason in S1 #the “trap liu min in the darkroom” plot happens instead #and that only ever really happens as a domino effect of S1E1 case #so i'm thinking it's like #liu xiao getting someone arrested in bridon -> leads to cxs going to bridon. somehow #liu xiao giving them the S1E1 case -> leads to cxs meeting red eyes #(phone beeping) you should really stop thinking 'bout it. stop thinking 'bout it. stop stop thinking 'bout it why your mind overclouded #EDIT: OH AND ALSO WASN'T THE TRIO BEING MYSTERIOUSLY PROFILED BY SOMEONE LIKE #THREE DAYS BEFORE THE S1E1 CASE #and then they destroyed those dossiers on april 18th the day S1E1 case concluded

link click yingdu ep 1 is truly the gift that keeps on giving the more you think about it the more layers you unlock. at first i thought the 'video call with phone in shirt pocket' trick is a pretty effective way of replicating their dives with like.. normal human technology without their powers and then i realised that's probably because lu guang specifically thought 'this is a situation that would call for a dive except cheng xiaoshi doesn't know about the whole time travel powers thing yet, what would be a good and reasonable approximation of that that i can spring on him rn'. also, we know this is not the first time he's experiencing this day because he was checking the clock before he proposed the whole video call phone camera thing, implying that he had the 'script' for this day just like he did with the anime convention, but even then he could only warn cheng xiaoshi about the guy behind him with the bat right before he was about to get hit - probably because cheng xiaoshi kept 'doing unnecessary actions' and messing up the timeline/lu guang's 'script' and forcing him to improvise. once again, lu guang's trying to protect cheng xiaoshi while also hiding information from him and cheng xiaoshi's failing to follow lu guang's instructions and putting himself in danger because of his own kindness and impulsivity - their entire dynamic moving forwards, captured in their first (arguably more like.. the 0th) 'job' together.

'people's need for (romantic) love' (i forgot the exact phrasing idk i wasnt looking at the english subs)#like i was thinking abt this and then she brought up 'the person calling your name on the other end of your phone' and cxs immediately goin #'dont you dare hurt my FRIEND' is just. im sorry its such a funny transition. like sure my guy #i also like that the scammers knew cxs's name bc of lg's yelling through the phone i thought that was a nice touch #once again the idea that cxs's safety is the one thing that makes lg drop all his rationality and start making Poor Decisions #(and also confirms that he did Not have the script for cxs getting knocked out lmao poor guy)#guy honestly trying his damn best to maintain the timeline vs guy who's just really talented at creating butterfly effects #asto speaks
