OH. okay so normally i dont touch discourse with a 20 ft pole, but this has been niggling at my brain tonight and i finally realized why

the people who are mad at qbbh for the memory loss and “dodging consequences” dont understand that he doesnt want to dodge consequences. Like they cant know that, they werent focused on him when he was literally feeding himself to the soul vultures and planning his eventual imprisonment and also. The Many Many Many hints he made towards suicide/sacrifice/Just Fucking Dying.

ccbbh is a subtle roleplayer, he’s been building this shit up for two whole months- it was day FIVE of the eggs going missing that he resolved to do whatever it took (hurting his friends) to get the eggs back. It was day three that he followed in dapper’s footsteps and started feeding himself to the soul vultures (and gaining a Massive headwound beneath his hood in the process- you can only see it if you go on namemc and remove the layers). He’s got impaired judgement. Even the memory issues arent a new thing- i cant remember exactly when they started, but one of the first big moments i remmeber was september 30th where he spent an hour falling into a delusional frenzy searching his base for cameras that he forgot he asked aypierre to plant.

The super murder of purgatory and the memory loss afterwards probably all feels very sudden for people who havent been following his story, but as someone who has been- all of this has been true to character. The only cheap swings he’s made have been combat-based in purgatory, and even the motive for those was built up in rp.

People are calling for consequences, but he has alrwady been experiencing self-inflicted consequences for months. The blue on his usual outfit is blood. This recent memory loss isnt a restart to get away with the atrocities - it is yet another consequence of his egg-protecting complexes and the ways he punishes himself for failing them.

he is NOT a moral character. he’s a demon hiding in plain site. he has eaten people. he has killed people. he understands the cruelty of his actions, and the consequences of them for the loved ones of his victims. but it matters when that harm is being done to his loved ones. he’ll still do it, because he will do anything for the eggs, but it matters, and that means that he has already started the process of self-inflicting those much-demanded consequences

honestly I think if we weigh evils done by both sides, it starts out equal until you get to things like Saint-14 straight up slamming his fist on the scale because while he's generally a very good guy and he thought he was doing the right thing, he singlehandedly slaughtered an untold number of Eliksni, undoubtedly far more than any single Eliksni had ever killed of humanity by a very wide margin. that and, of course, the Vanguard had people in positions of power who just outright hated the Eliksni and straight up made shit up about it. People like Lakshmi and The Exceptionally Racist Hidden, obviously, but even the Speaker was telling people the Eliksni ate children, which now that I think about it and about how Lakshmi and TERH were talking calls to mind some unpleasant parallels with real life

Yeah, and let's not forget that the Speaker also actively encouraged Saint's crusades, even though Osiris disparaged them. Like sure, this was during the worst of the Eliksni-human wars, but setting a Lightbearer on someone is equivilant to setting an intelligent nuke on your enemies.

Iirc Saint himself saw drekhs eating children, but here's the thing- that's not exclusive of humans. They were forced to eat their dead to survive the Drift, including their own dead hatchlings. Just check this shit out from Achilles Weaves a Cocoon:

The fact of the matter is that the Eliksni suffered just as bad, if not worse, than humanity during the Collapse. We at the very least were never driven to this low, and we have the luck of not being long-lived enough to remember what we lost. Doesn't excuse first contact going so fucking badly (thanks Namrask!), but the fact of the matter is that we've had the upper hand over them for at least a few centuries now, and everything we've done since is just kicking them when they're down. There hasn't been an equal power dynamic since the Final Attempt and the amount of Eliksni that Saint killed purely out of misplaced grief is frankly fucking horrifying when you think of it. This war was a bloody fucking disaster, and it's important to understand why lots of other Eliksni aren't exactly jumping for joy at the idea of allying with us.

Real talk, in the recent years of fandom, I've noticed a trend of people decrying problematic subjects without acknowledging why it's bad or how it hurts real people. And I feel part of the Moonpaw Ableism Shit stems from that.

We know incest is bad. We know inbreeding is bad. But when you don't critically think of why it's bad beyond "it's icky and produces icky offspring :((((", it often leads to rancid behavior like this. Or worse.

It's not bad because it leads to "ugly disabled kids". It's bad because it hurts people and stigimazing people this way only makes it worse.

This is less of a general ableism issur in the wc fandom and more of a broader, more insidious issue within fandom culture imo. I think we should be more mindful about how we approach problematic subject matter like this.

like. jesus. looking at old dms with people who also have noticed dan has gender going on is amazing because i love this community and we've always been seeing the same things and we've always been right.

i was having private conversations in late 2019 about how it was likely dan was processing some gender things in private after coming out, or would be soon. and then earlier this year dan mentioned unprompted that she could've come back from lockdown with a different haircut and gender but got scared and it didn't happen.

but it also sucks because every single mutual i had who dan gender posted before the gaming channel return got loads of backlash. it forced multiple of them off this website. some stopped using tumblr for other reasons. but people got hateful and i think i'm the only one left who's been publicly posting about it since before dnp came out.

and it breaks my heart. there's joy in those old messages but more than that it breaks my heart.

another day and another thought about how much i fucking loathe IWRY. The episode itself is soooooo emblematic of a problem that I think is pretty rampant in AtS in general, which is the way it treats Buffy Summers as little more than a prop The Actual Most Specialest Of All: Angel, that one vampire guy who sucked so bad someone cursed him. The episode is meant to be the grand send-off to b*ngel and yet... it isn't, is it? Because only Angel gets the closure here. It's useless to Buffy; she learns NOTHING from this experience because she isn't allowed to remember it. Her misery (which he pointlessly chooses to subject her to, but that's another topic) is nothing more than a prop to elevate Angel's own tragedy. Then at the end, her memory is erased and she's in the exact same state she was in at the beginning of the episode.

She takes nothing back with her, she was just a pretty little doll for Angel to sleep with and emote in front of and now the story is done with her, so she can leave. Bleh.
