Here's the thing I could do to draw Marko's family for the first time :D
Ramble under the cut uhhh
My English it's not the best I hope it's understandable :'D
Sooo, Vicente is a Peninsular (A child full Spaniard heritage but born in America), and Sole is Mestiza (Child half Spaniard half native)
Sole's family were merchandisers and Vicente's family (vieng full Spaniard) owned lands, crops and slaves
It was very rare at the time but both Sole and Vicente fell in love with each other, so they married and had children :D
Vicente's parents end up going back to Spain with their other children (so Marko's cousins are full Spaniard), but Vicente wanted to stay in New Spain with Sole
They are not rich, but they have some land in Mexico (in that time, a New Spain state), but as their children were mestizos, for Vicente it was important them to make themselves worthy, so after Maria was born, they moved to Florida closer to United Colonies
So, even if their first four children were girls, Vicente made sure they all were well educated both in Spanish and English
When Marko was born, Florida went from belonging to Spain to Britain, and Vicente started pushing Marko a lot more for being the first boy, now born in a British Colony
(The children were already less worthy than full Spaniard or even Peninsulares, now being foreigner in a British colony it would be hard for Marko to build a worthy life)
Sole got weak with Marko's birth and he was sick during all Marko's childhood, until Marko was five and she died
Vicente loved Sole so much it was difficult not thinking she died because of Marko, and the boy wasn't good at all (he couldn't read, he was clumsy and was too attached to his mother)
So he went from calm but firm man, to a strict and emotionally distant. Specially when in the same year Sole died, Marko started with vitiligo symptoms
Fran was the oldest and biggest proud of Vicente, so he just focused on her and let Marko under the care of his three other sisters
When Marko turned 15 Vicente decided it was about being time for him to be a man, and send him to the war to fight for the country they were living in and then moved back to Mexico, forcing Marko to join the army or find a way to survive
Marko tryed to scape to Spain because he remembers he had some family there, but while he was making a stop in England, he was forced to join the royal army
While Marko's in the war, their sisters and father were in New Spain. They weren't that rich, but they keep studying
Till Maria and Bell mainly, decided they wanted to do the same as their mom, an started moving all around the country together, selling clothes and clay stuff
Fran and Bea got married not very long after Marko was left behind
When 1783 came and Marko didn't appear, they all assumed he had died either in war or in any other scenario. It was just Marko not being willing to go back. He missed his sisters but he was angrier with his father than he loved his sisters (they were way older than him, and they were always loved by Vicente, the opposite of what Marko felt)
So it wasn't till 1798 when Marko met his family again :D
#Sorry if this is so long ah-#And maybe this doesn't make sense idc#I do have ideas for Marko's sisters life BUT#I don't want to just say everything#I WANNA DRAW#amrev oc#My art#Drawings

OUTRUN OUTRUN OUTRUN INSPIRED WORLDBUILDING PROJECT
feel free to ask me anything about it :)
(please oh please pay attention plz give my hyperfixation attention plaessssssss!!111!!11!)
My best friend made me watch kung fury and its consuming my life guys. I'm revamping all my sci-fi worldbuilding into an outrun style project. It entails a lot of scrapping of scientific explanation's and letting things exist just cause they can. And letting stupid things be cool things. Y'know? I decided to start with a long neglected OC. Detective Ray! :D
He is stationed on Old Earth because of the much more kind atmosphere and conditions that will help slow the degradation of his body from his illness. As opposed to his home planet. This condition shares a lot of visual similarities of vitiligo. Though the loss of pigmentation in the hair, eyes, wings, and skin is a symptom of disease that weakens the body. While the disease does attack muscle mass, it is able to be slowed with preventative measures such as exercise, physical therapy, a specific diet, and modern medicine. The condition can even be slowly reversed, although it is not easy.
I'll leave it on that, here's the sketch and crisp version of the art!

octavinelle hcs and projections 🦑🦈
⚠️ warnings: self harm, restrictive eating disorders, self destructive behavior below the cut! there are wholesome hcs too i swear
last updated: nov 10, 2023
collective headcanon: jade and azul learned the common language from textbooks (which is why they talk formally), but floyd learned from listening to sailors speak.
╰ underwater merfolk communicate through clicks + other sounds
FLOYD LEECH !! 🦈🫧
🇯🇵🇧🇧🌺 UNLABLED + GENDERFLUID (he/any)
APPEARANCE HCS:
floyd is mixed with black and tan (#D9AD91- Salmon Sand in the winter)
i think he has really large freckles across his body. i hc him to be bajan because this is the species of moray i hc the tweels to be
╰ i also made a deranged twitter thread about this
floyd has a shit ton of scars and even bite marks from old "play fights"
his two rows of moray teeth manifested in his human form as extra overgrown teeth. he doesn't mind because he thinks they look cool
in merform, both he and jade have two sets of teeth and a pharyngeal jaw
RANDOM HCS:
floyd is 1 inch taller than jade and makes sure jade knows it
bites his tongue and the inside of his cheek on purpose and on accident
she has been banned from painting her nails or doing anything messy other than cooking inside of the lounge ever since The Incident.
floyd has ataxia symptoms on land and is a part-time cane user
has severe mamas boy syndrome and will freak out if he cant talk to her at the end of each week about what he accomplished (didnt bite anyone for the WHOLE day)
he thinks its so cool you can put colors in your hair and on your face above water (why i think he'd be into decora and scene)
enjoys okinawan gyaru styles and traditional hawaiian culture/fashion also
it has BPD, GAD, and separation anxiety!!!
triggering content ahead !!
has been a "delinquent" for half his life and has run away a few times
during his depressive episodes he'll forget to eat for days on end
he can also be self destructive during these episodes (self harm)
he can also get really quiet and it scares the shit out of azul (jade is used to it)
gets really (and reasonably) upset when people other than jade or azul mention his mood swings negatively because he's sensitive about it
channels his anger into cooking rather than fighting or cutting
AZUL ASHENGROTTO !! 🐙⛵
🇮🇹🇭🇹🌺 BISEXUAL INTERSEX + TRANSFEM (she/he)
APPEARANCE HCS:
AZUL IS FAT AND HAS BREAST TISSUE (my azul hc art for reference)
in my head she looks like mama morton from the chicago musical
i base azul off of the octopus hawaiiensis, thus the vitiligo
he has longer front teeth and sharper teeth, resembling an octopus beak
rectangular pupils
has splatoon hair 🔥
RANDOM HCS:
i am a drag queen azul believer. one of his dreams is to preform in the lounge
extremely double jointed/a contortionist because. octopus.
doesnt make food in the lounge anymore because its so spicy and ethnic it started scaring the pomefiore customers </3 its not her fault shes haitian...
has severe claudication/phantom limb pains and is a part-time wheelchair user, sometimes she uses a cane. book 6 was really taxing on her legs
GAD, ASPD, and gender dysphoria
triggering content ahead !!
has a restrictive eating disorder
back at his moms restaurant, he would purge after being a taste tester
used to self harm when she was younger but is years clean now!
JADE LEECH !! 🐬🌊
🇯🇵🇧🇧🌺 ASEXUAL AROMANTIC + AGENDER (they/he)
APPEARANCE HCS:
pretty similar if not the same as floyd's
jade is a bit paler than floyd despite going outside more (theyre anemic)
i think his makeup and fashion styles interchange at breakneck speeds
monday evil emo ecopunk , tuesday dainty fairy mushroom enjoyer (still evil)
shaved eyebrows
RANDOM HCS:
similarly to floyd, they use a lot of petnames, but normal ones
╰ instead of "goldfishie," he might call riddle dear/honey
also has extra overgrown teeth in human form but hes self-conscious about it
has milder symptoms of ataxia, also a part-time cane user
really good listener and a really good talker. theyll go on hour long rants about what he found on his daily trek, a new recipe he tried, etc
has a lot of random hobbies! the main ones are swimming, stamp collecting, going on walks, and journaling/scrapbooking
owns those DIY jar terrariums as well as a few mini-aquariums
also owns multiple exotic pets/bugs! i think he owns leeche
GAD and autism. his special interests are botony and wildlife

i think i might have vitiligo. my dad and older brother have it and i've started noticing a few white spots on my hands and maybe a few on atleast one of my arms? it's hard to tell though since im so pale after the winter and barely having been outside since the cold worsens my pain and other symptoms plus the sensory nightmare of both the cold and the white sky and sunlight reflecting on the snow, and even before the winter i haven't really been outside a lot at all since my chronic illness symptoms got bad. basically i haven't gotten barely any sunlight in a very long time.
i've gotten slightly more tan the recent weeks though and it's going to be interesting to see if it's more noticeable after i've gotten more tan since i'm really trying to be outside more this summer! my goal is to not have to take any vitamin d pills in the summer, i take one twice a week in the summer and one every day in the winter.
either way it's probably not ever going to be very visible (not that there's any problem with that, i actually think it looks really cool) but both my dad's and my brother's vitiligo isn't very visible since it consists of small spots in different places of the body. it's more visible on my dad though since his skin is a lot more tan and my brother is basically as white as you can be.
i know vitiligo isn't just a cool aesthetic thing and that it is an actual autoimmune disorder that affects your immune system and it's to be taken seriously! but out of the autoimmune diseases i have/might have, this one doesn't seem too bad.

Any way we could get a comprehensive list of all the conditions, allergies etc. that you HC Melone with? Your characterization of Mel is my absolute favorite!!
First, thank you for the kind words, I'm very happy you like my characterization so much! <3
Your ask made me realize that I actually had something from my CuriousCat, so I will put that whole thing here! I also found some other drafts of mine that hinted at Melone stuff, so I will look those over and add anything that isn't here (and after that I will hopefully also finish up and queue those drafts just to stay on topic!)
From My CuriousCat
"What are all your medical HCs for Melone?"
The first time I discussed Melone's potential health issues was when I listed some conditions for him in my La Squadra headcanon/drawing meme, the full version of which is here. For this post I'll include my original portrait of Melone separately since it demonstrates some of what I'll be talking about:
(For the meme, I listed the following conditions: comorbidities, amblyopia, allergies.)
Originally I didn't think a lot about medical conditions, but after listening to some friends talk about potential clues to Melone having poor health (his mask hinting at eye problems, the fact that his Stand works remotely so he doesn't have to engage his targets directly, and even things like his stiff gait in the now-defunct JoJo's Pitter Patter Pop mobile game), I decided that this reading of Melone made sense, and started thinking more about it. That said, since I'm not chronically ill and have little experience with chronic illness in my everyday life, I can only talk in vague terms.
As mentioned above, I had amblyopia listed in the drawing meme, meaning one "lazy" eye that Melone might also be mostly blind in. I've seen others say that his covered eye could be an implant, which is also interesting! In the end I went with amblyopia for the aesthetic.
By comorbidities, I was thinking an autoimmune disorder and some comorbid conditions exacerbating it and causing symptoms like joint pain, chronic pain, or insomnia. My portrait shows Melone with vitiligo both as an aesthetic choice (adding even more visual interest, which makes his portrait one of my all-time favorites I've done) and as a way of reflecting this condition, and an added motive was that I just feel like these little things make a difference and might make people with vitiligo feel more seen. Basically Melone is usually in mild to moderate pain, and on his bad days, it gets progressively worse, so he takes a lot of medication and indulges in hot baths. I would also add in retrospect that I could see him having occasional seizures, which tend to land him in the ER from time to time - along with stuff like minor accidents, having alcohol too soon after taking medication, or allergy flare-ups.
Speaking of allergies, my headcanon came from talking to a friend and joking about Melone figuring out through trial and error what he can and cannot have. Lactose intolerance is definitely among those in my land, so Melone has to take his lactaid if he wants a milkshake. Other allergies that I can remember later thinking about were to gluten, possibly sea food, and maybe even stuff like latex.
I didn't go into more detail in the original draft because it sometimes makes me feel sad to think about these things (and as I am editing this, the sentiment holds true), but because of Melone's general design and Stand design, these do make sense to me and honestly, it also helps to flesh out other aspects of his character. Thinking about potential medical conditions for him led to my absolute favorite headcanon for Melone, which is him taking ER selfies of himself and with friends, so for every trip to the emergency room, he has a few photos of himself flashing a victory sign while hooked on an IV, etc. It's funny and eccentric but also heartwarming and heartbreaking in a way: he is just making the most out of his condition and he has friends to help him and make the journey feel less harrowing.
I hope this answers your question, and thank you again for your kind words! It always makes me so happy when people enjoy my version of the characters! <3

In Baltimore County, MD: FINAL PLEA: Akita with Uveodermatologic Syndrome Seeking Rescue ASAP
Baltimore County Animal Services is seeking rescue placement for Ava Kisses, a 3.5 year old, 82 pound Akita that has been previously diagnosed with Uveodermatologic syndrome. This is an auto-immune disease characterized by eye, skin and nervous system symptoms. Affected dogs usually suffer eye problems, premature whitening of the hair, and skin depigmentation (vitiligo). Its cause is understood to be related to the immune system's auto-destruction of melanocytes (pigment-making cells) which are concentrated in the skin and eyes. Due to this condition, this pet’s eyes have previously been enucleated (surgically removed) to prevent suffering. Ava was found to have a skin infection (dermatitis), most likely secondary to her auto-immune disease. Her skin is covered with crusts and scabs and she has hair loss on her back, sides, and legs. Antibiotics and steroids have been started to combat this condition. Ava has shown no behavior concerns and is eager to make friends with new people and will sit and offer them her paw for attention.
Ava Kisses is up to date on vaccines, heartworm tested negative, and spayed. If you are interested in pulling Ava, or have any questions, please let us know!
Thank you,
BCAS Rescue Team
Baltimore County Animal Services

Posting to expand on just what my au is/what's going on. It's not simply a human remake, though it did start out that way. Chronologically:
Draxum hates humanity. That much is canonical to the show. But where it diverges in my au is his process of making mutants. Instead of taking animals and mixing their DNA with people(Lou specifically), he took "abandoned" human eggs to mix with Lou's DNA to form an embryo and *then* mix it with animal DNA. However, after doing the Lou portion first is when Yoshi was able to break free, taking the test tube babies with him. So they weren't able to be mutated, and neither was he.
The age differences went like this: Draxum used Raph's egg as a test to see if it worked. Once the embryo stabilized, he then did Donnie and Leo, and a few months into their incubation was Mikey. He had been waiting until they were born babies to mix them with animal DNA, but due to his ignorance on baby care Raph had a sickly period and the entire thing was shoved off.
How did they not recognize their father as Lou Jitsu? He's old! In my au he was Lou from age 20 to 28, trapped in the battle nexus until age 34/35, and then it's another 13 years until his sons find out he's Lou Jitsu. So he definitely looks different. And that's intentional, on his part. He was wanted by not only Draxum but Big Mama, and thus the entire Hidden City authorities on her payroll. He grew out his hair, restyled it, dressed much less flashy. And raising 4 sons all alone as a criminal put some greys in his hair, for sure.
Are there still mutants in the au? Of course! That entire aspect is the same, minus the fact the boys and Splinter are mutants. Though, because of their whole "we're the children of two presumably dead people and also live in the sewers", they're just as tolerant. Also, Piebald is a mutant still.
Who is their mother/egg donor? An original character named Cyra Raheem. She was a founder and data analyst for a software development company, which is a fancy legal way of saying she was a "hacker". She'd stored and frozen her eggs in the hope that she'd one day have the free time for children, but disappeared sometime shortly after Lou Jitsu was taken into yhe Battle Nexus. The eggs stayed frozen for a few years after, until Draxum sought a maternal "donor", and her past high status in illegal spaces caught his attention. Finding out she had eggs in cryopreservation was a treat, really.
What happened to Cyra? She was looking into Big Mama(who she thought was human) after Lou went missing, by request of Sho, and when BM caught wind of it, Cyra went missing for quite a few years.... And who knows what happened to her in that time?(I do. I know)
Why are they in the sewers if they're human? As previously mentioned, both Cyra and Lou are considered legally dead. The boys' existences are unexplainable to the average person. And Yoshi is wanted by BM and her police force, which can and do roam the surface. Just to be safe, he kept them underground.
How'd they meet April? The same way I consider their meeting in the show, which is basically PHEEBS fic. But obviously Leo isn't kidnapped as a giant turtle spectacle, so in this it's a bit darker..he was kidnapped for human trafficking reasons because of his "unique"(barf) skin and eyes.
If they're not turtles, how will they withstand the fights? Uhh.. fiction magic...? They do the same stunts they would in the show and everything, but as humans they'd get hurt significantly worse. So a mix of fiction magic and unseen recovery periods.
How can they take blows to their back that a shell would protect? See above question.
What's the equivalent to Donnie's shell being weaker/softer? A few things, actually. More sensitive skin and nerves on his back, for starters. His mother, with more widespread/"stronger" vitiligo, had a few other health issues/autoimmune disorders. Donnie unfortunately inherited them: mild rheumatoid arthritis and symptoms of multiple sclerosis(mainly affecting his eyes, bones, and balance).
What happens to the turtles left behind? Draxum hadn't bought them yet! So no turtles were harmed in the destruction of the lab
And as for anything in the future or plot related, I can't/won't answer..

Yuta Kosuke is Masumi’s primary alter, though it’s safe to assume he probably has more headmates than just Yuta. However, when Masumi’s distress gets the best of him during the killing game following the unfortunate death of a dear f…riend, he starts experiencing bouts of dissociation, depersonalization and derealization, which aren’t focused on, but shortly after said death, Khenan Reed, the ultimate filmmaker, comments Masumi has been wandering around at night, talking to himself, and this raises suspicions around Masumi. However, upon being pressed about this it becomes apparent he has no memory of it. Over time, Masumi’s demeanor becomes unlike him far more often, and in chapter 5, it becomes apparent Masumi is literally a completely different person.
It’s implied that Yuta is a male introject (alter in a DID/OSDD system based on an outside source, like a real person or fictional character) of Yuri from Doki Doki Literature Club, but this is never explicitly stated because I feel like that might raise some sort of copyright issue?? Either way, it’s also not really relevant enough to the story to confirm anyway but I do intend to imply it with Yuta’s personality, being a quiet “tortured artist” type, similar sounding name (though Yuri means lily and Yuta means gentle) and his affinity for the color purple.
The most explicit reference to it though is that when they’re discussing the fifth death, despite that it’s pretty tame compared to some of the murder scenes, executions and the states of the bodies, Yuta becomes disturbed to the point of becoming physically ill when they begin discussing the manner of death being repeated stab wounds, so much so he starts gagging and coughing like he’s about to vomit.
While Masumi wasn’t unbothered by death, he saw little value to his own life, and could handle the trials fine as a result of that amount of desensitization. However, Yuta isn’t like Masumi, and while he can handle death, several specific manners of death cause him heavy amounts of stress, including suffocation, which is one of the big things that tips the survivors off to the fact that they’re… not talking to Masumi. Masumi had helped solve a strangulation case fine, and only became upset when he realized who the killer was.
Yuta doesn’t actually know he has DID, just that he isn’t Masumi, and in a less unbelievably ableist version of THH chapter 2’s turn of events in trial 5, Masumi and Yuta’s “strange” behaviors cause him to be a suspect as Yuta is unlike the boy they know. However, while Yuta promises he’ll accept any punishment they see fit for any dishonesty including torture, he hesitantly and worriedly refuses to speak of his symptoms at all, despite acknowledging silence as dishonesty. Alice once again being the one to save the trial with psychological prowess, realizes Yuta seems to be a different identity state, and the holes in Yuta’s alibi against allegations of being the killer or even the mastermind are filled in as it becomes clear Yuta has no malicious intent, but a wholly different person with his own personality and rituals that Khenan had happened to capture snippets of. The name Yuta comes from its similarity to Yuri, and Yuta ends up essentially becoming the new host of Masumi’s system. But because of the life Masumi had been crafting, Yuta finds himself suddenly being expected to be someone he absolutely isn’t, an actor instead of an observer, someone supposed to put himself into fire for others’ entertainment. He’s even met with shock when he begins outwardly complaining about pain in his hands and wrists, which Masumi had been dead silent about, and willingly taking anti-inflammatory drugs and wearing braces on his wrists and hands.
Turns out, Yuta and Masumi’s body’s immune system has more problems than Masumi ever let on. While his vitiligo was obvious, what never seemed to occur to anyone in the class and what he kept totally quiet about was the fact that he had another condition caused by his immune system attacking itself- early onset rheumatoid arthritis. Unlike Heiran (maybe I should talk abt her next if ur ok w it—) who has piebaldism, a skin condition that doesn’t pose any serious health risks, but creates heavy stress and self esteem issues for Heiran, Masumi’s condition is indicative of an underlying stress and health issue. Heiran’s condition is genetic and causes her vanity and self esteem issues, which is her biggest problem, but Masumi’s is from environmental stress. Masumi doesn’t hate himself, the world seems to hate him, but while the world seems to love Heiran, she hates herself.
While Yuta’s body’s arthritis was known by doctors, Masumi had never done anything about it and was willing to risk ruining his future to not feel like he was nothing in the face of his condition the way the world did- an extremely unhealthy outlook. Yuta knows how the world sees him and hates it, but doesn’t want to crumble and obsess over it and ruin his life. He feels both bad for Heiran and slightly judgmental as she allows herself to obsess over it with a desperation for everyone else to see her differently. Yuta in that sense is an opposite to Heiran, who was born at the top, but she hates herself because the beauty industry thrives off of making people hate themselves. Yuta came from the bottom, literally formed because his brain and body could not cope with any more stress, but he is fine with what he is, and he doesn’t want to chase anyone else’s love.
If it’s ok with you I might talk abt another character next too-
Yuta being an introject of Yuri is interesting, and I don't think you have to worry about copyright all that much like by just vaguing what his source is

I live in Ohio and I am underage. I always let people know in the ask box. Things are still not back to normal and we have not been able to go back home. I had to receive treatment at the hospital. I have very sensitive skin anyway. I have allergies and vitiligo. A few days before we had to leave, I took a shower and when I got out my whole body started itching and burning like crazy. I knew it wasn't anything that I used. Later that evening is when we noticed the water didn't look right. My parents took me to go get checked out and at first they said it looked like I was having a allergy reaction. I was getting red and splotchy. They was about to hit me with a epipen. Another doctor came in to examine me and told us there was a few other people in the ER with the same symptoms. They ran a bunch of tests and hit me with some kind of solution that calmed the itching and burning down. They believe it was the water and it looked like I had 1st degree burns. Right now, my skin is fine but I am peeling :\ It's almost like I got sun burned.
Sorry here that anon :c

Finding the Best Treatment for Vitiligo: What You Need to Know
Understanding Vitiligo
It's a long-lasting skin condition that is autoimmune and characterized by the loss of color that causes spots of white skin. These spots or patches may appear everywhere on the body, including sensitive areas such as the lips. Although it isn't dangerous, vitiligo may affect the appearance of a person and self-esteem. Knowing the cause and the treatment options available, as well as ways to manage it through vitiligo treatment naturally, can help those affected by vitiligo make educated decisions regarding their health.
Who is at Risk for Vitiligo?
Vitiligo is a condition that affects any person, but certain conditions can increase the chance of getting the disease. Anyone with a history of vitiligo or an autoimmune disease, like the thyroid condition or Type 1 Diabetes, is at greater risk. It is believed that it is caused by a mix of environmental, genetic, and autoimmune triggers. It isn't a contagious disease, which means it can't be transmitted through contact or other types of contact. However, vitiligo disease treatment will help you manage or eliminate your spots or white patches.
The time of onset for vitiligo is generally unpredictable. It can start at any age. However, it is most common to see symptoms prior to the age of 30. Stress, emotional stress, skin injuries (from sunburns or cuts), or exposure to certain chemicals can cause or worsen the condition in some people.
How is Vitiligo Confirmed?
It is usually diagnosed using a combination of medical background, physical examination, and laboratory testing. Dermatologists can look at the skin using Wood's light, which is a specific type of ultraviolet light that can detect spots of depigmentation that are not obvious to the untrained eye. In certain cases, a skin biopsy may be performed to rule out other skin disorders. If you wish to reduce or control the symptoms, it is possible to adopt the vitiligo disease treatment at Bharat Homeopathy Hospital.
Tests for blood can be done to identify autoimmune conditions or thyroid issues that are frequently associated with Vitiligo. It is vital to identify the problem early in to determine the most efficient treatments. If the diagnosis is confirmed that the spot is white, treatment for white spot on skin may begin according to how severe the problem is and the impact it has on the patient.
Where Does Vitiligo Start?
Vitiligo may begin in various parts of the body. However, it is most often seen in areas that are exposed to the sun, like the hands, face, Vitiligo on lips, and arms. Lips-related vitiligo is common because the skin around these areas is more fragile and susceptible to loss of pigment. It could also start at the eye, in the nostrils or around the extremities such as fingers and toes.
In certain cases, the vitiligo disease can develop slowly and affect large areas of the skin in time. However, it is also possible to be confined to small areas. Vitiligo's spread can be in flux, and there is no way of knowing the speed or extent to which it can progress in any person.
Is Vitiligo Painful?
A common and commonly-held misconception regarding vitiligo is that it causes physical discomfort. It isn't a painful problem, and it generally does not cause discomfort or itching. However, people suffering from this condition might be more prone to sunburns due to the fact that the affected skin areas are deficient in melanin, the pigment that helps protect against UV radiation. If you are looking for an effective natural remedy, it is recommended that you select the best treatment for vitiligo. This is homeopathy.
Although vitiligo isn't painful, its psychological effects can be a significant one. The visible skin changes can cause anxiety, self-consciousness or depression, particularly when people have noticeable areas of depigmentation. So, treatment for vitiligo often involves not just dealing with the physical signs and symptoms but also providing emotional aid to help patients cope with the changes.

Vitiligo: Types, Causes, Symptoms, Diagnosis and Treatment Options
Introduction: Vitiligo is a skin condition characterized by the loss of pigment, resulting in white patches on the skin. While it’s not life-threatening, vitiligo can significantly impact a person’s emotional and psychological well-being. This blog explores the types, causes, symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment options for vitiligo, offering insights for those affected by the condition.
What is Vitiligo?
Vitiligo is a chronic skin disorder where melanocytes, the cells responsible for skin pigmentation, are destroyed. This leads to the development of white patches on various parts of the body. The condition affects people of all skin types but is more noticeable in individuals with darker skin.
Types of Vitiligo:
Generalized Vitiligo: The most common form, where depigmented patches appear symmetrically on both sides of the body. Common areas include the face, neck, hands, and knees.
Segmental Vitiligo: This type affects only one side of the body or a specific area, often developing at a younger age and progressing for a few years before stabilizing.
Focal Vitiligo: Characterized by a few scattered white patches that do not follow a specific pattern and may not spread extensively.
Acrofacial Vitiligo: This type primarily affects the face, hands, and feet, with patches appearing around the mouth, eyes, and fingers.
Universal Vitiligo: A rare form where nearly all of the skin loses its pigment, covering over 80% of the body.
Causes of Vitiligo:
The exact cause of vitiligo is not fully understood, but several factors are believed to contribute:
Autoimmune Factors: The immune system mistakenly attacks melanocytes, leading to their destruction.
Genetics: Family history of vitiligo or other autoimmune diseases may increase the risk.
Environmental Triggers: Sunburn, stress, or exposure to certain chemicals can trigger or worsen the condition.
Neurogenic Factors: The release of harmful chemicals from nerve endings may also contribute to the destruction of melanocytes.
Oxidative Stress: An imbalance between free radicals and antioxidants in the body may play a role in the development of vitiligo.
Symptoms of Vitiligo:
White Patches on the Skin: The primary symptom, these patches can appear on any part of the body, including the mucous membranes and retina.
Premature Graying of Hair: Hair on the scalp, eyelashes, eyebrows, and beard may turn white early.
Color Loss in the Tissues Inside the Mouth and Nose: Some people experience depigmentation in the inner tissues.
Treatment Options for Vitiligo:
While there is no cure for vitiligo, several treatment options can help restore skin color or even out skin tone:
Topical Corticosteroids: These creams may help return color to white patches, especially if started early.
Topical Calcineurin Inhibitors: Useful in areas with thin skin, such as the face and neck, these creams help reduce inflammation and the immune response.
Phototherapy (Light Therapy): Narrowband UVB therapy is a common treatment that helps stimulate melanocyte production. It is often combined with topical treatments for better results.
Excimer Laser Therapy: This is a more targeted form of light therapy that focuses on specific areas, making it ideal for smaller patches.
Depigmentation Therapy: For those with extensive vitiligo, depigmentation of the remaining pigmented skin may be considered to achieve a more uniform appearance.
Surgical Options:
Skin Grafting: Involves transplanting small sections of normal, pigmented skin to areas affected by vitiligo.
Blister Grafting: Blisters are created on the pigmented skin, and the tops of these blisters are transplanted to depigmented areas.
Camouflage Therapy: Cosmetic products, such as skin dyes and makeup, can help cover up the white patches and provide emotional relief.
Psychological Support: Counseling or support groups can be beneficial for those struggling with the emotional impact of vitiligo.
Conclusion:
Living with vitiligo can be challenging, but understanding the condition and exploring available treatment options can help manage its effects. While there’s no definitive cure, ongoing research and advances in treatment continue to improve the quality of life for those with vitiligo. If you or someone you know is affected by this condition, consulting with a dermatologist to explore personalized treatment options is the first step toward managing vitiligo.
