A couple of concept doodles for Damien, a pivotal character in Inertia :)
I have the idea for him to be a photographer and close with Leo (“close” he says, knowing my plot has them very gay). Just two chill guys, probably in a school paper club or something
Very much a character inspired by artist Jhariah’s music, I’ve been having a lot of fun fleshing out and experimenting with his story!

I saw today's prompt for Fat Liberation Month was "Centaur," so I thought I'd knock this one off my to-draw list! They are boyfriends.
Prints available on Inprnt!
[Image Description: Digital artwork of a centaur and a dwarven man sitting together on the grass. The centaur has the torso of a fat black man with vitiligo, his hair in long twists, and he wears a flower crown. His body is that of a paint horse (brown with white splotches). The dwarf is a fat South Asian man with small braids in his beard. He wears a white shirt with the sleeves rolled up and light brown pants. The dwarf is seated in front of the centaur, working on a second flower crown, while the centaur braids his hair. Both are smiling peacefully. /end ID]

Unnamed Celestial elf does indeed have vitiligo. I know there are some characters in anime that do but I can't think of anyone in a Western cartoon that does! Very cool

Meet Jay! An old Minecraft OC I roleplayed as during 2020-2022 as a coping mechanism based off the dsmp, they weren’t written very well (or designed well, just being a Minecraft skin with an elytra to simulate being an avian) so I decided to redraw her and redo her backstory! A little bit of that is shown in the bio :> I’ll make a Minecraft build of her house soon!
Let me know if the vitiligo looks good! I’m always a bit worried drawing vitiligo because I want to portray it well :>>

while i think there has been good done by the normalization of vitiligo through fashion and beauty models, changing ideas of vitiligo spots as blemishes or some kind of contagious disease… it has not helped the broader public understand vitiligo, i feel? it’s not just a visual difference. it also impacts that person’s life.
my mom cannot enjoy the sun at the beach the same way people without vitiligo can. she wears a sweater and socks Everywhere, to cover her spots on her arms and feet. she also always needs to have an umbrella if we go walking. she wears shades indoors because her eyes are sensitive to the fluorescent lights, and of course she always wears them outdoors.
like, it’s not just some little quirk you can add to a character and have them be exactly like someone without vitiligo in all other ways. i’m not sure if one could call it a disability, but it definitely is a condition that requires accommodations and lifestyle changes.

hello my fellow artists. If your not willing to do research or be respectful then stop drawing vitiligo. Just stop. Stop drawing it. It’s a skin condition, not just some cool accessory.

Hey, I have two questions about an OC with vitiligo. He's written in a group of other morally grey characters and has a past of being an assassin and thief. This isn't hidden from the other characters nor intended to be a surprise to the audience, but one of his vitiligo marks looks like a thief's mask. I thought this would just be a cute nod to his history and think it's subtle, but thought I'd check just to ensure this didn't fall into negative territory.
I was also wondering about including vitiligo in his past more. Right now he's more so a character who happens to have vitiligo rather than a character with vitiligo if that makes sense. I've considered giving him comorbid health problems or make him HoH but as his line of work still includes a massive amount of fighting so I don't think this will be possible- though I'm happy to be proven wrong. I'm wondering if you had any ideas on how to include vitiligo in his past? Although i understand if this would be a difficult question to answer.
Thanks for you're time, I hope you have a good day!! :D
Anything that resembles shapes, objects, patterns, or anything that wouldn't naturally occur as vitiligo should be avoided.
I would also urge you to be weary about accidentally villainizing or negatively associating vitiligo due to their characterization.
Having vitiligo around the eyes is pretty common so making it in the shape of a thief's mask could be seen as a jab.
Not all people with vitiligo experience comorbidity (in fact less than a third do), but if you do plan on giving them something I suggest looking into which things commonly occur.
While I myself am not HoH (I have tinnitus but it's mild and I'm not sure if that counts or is even associated with HoH) I do know that that doesn't automatically bar you from being able to fight.
"He feels like a character who happens to have vitiligo, rather than a character with vitiligo"
There's nothing wrong with a character who just happens to also have vitiligo, but, including it in his past would add more depth and make it feel more realistic/relatable.
I do have some questions I would like you to think about though:
Does he have vitiligo purely to act as a nod to him being a thief and assassin ? Are there any other reasons that drew you to him having vitiligo?
Are there any other characters with vitiligo that can disperse any implications of vitiligo being villainized?
