Shoutout to paralyzed people. Those with complete paralysis, incomplete paralysis; Those whose paralysis was caused from accidents, brain injuries, strokes, spinal cord injuries, neurological illnesses; Those with paraplegia, quadriplegia, hemiplegia, tetraplegia. Who were born paralyzed or became paralyzed later in life.
Those who have a carer, those who use a wheelchair full-time, those who use crutches or canes and those whose mobility aid is a hospital bed. Those with incontinence, who wear adult diapers, ostomy bags and catheters. You are not "lesser" for needing care or not being able to live independently. You deserve to live a comfortable life with autonomy and dignity.
We rock. We're fucking amazing. I love you.

can i ask how your quadriplegia works if you’re also able to walk (with a cane)?
Many people think that all quadriplegics are the same—that none of them are able to move their arms and legs at all. However, there are several types of quadriplegia—including incomplete, complete, and spastic quadriplegia that have some key differences.
Incomplete Quadriplegia
An “incomplete quadriplegic” is different from a complete paraplegic in that they may still retain some function and/or sensation in their arms or legs. This may be the case with incomplete or "partial" SCI, some TBIs, and some inherited conditions that cause quadriplegia.
Depending on the cause, some people with incomplete quadriplegia may see improvement in their ability to control their limbs with certain quadriplegia therapies and exercises. However, others may see their incomplete quadriplegia progress into complete quadriplegia as their condition progresses. (I personally fall into the latter category)
Complete Quadriplegia
Complete quadriplegia is characterized by a complete loss of control over the arms and legs. This is a near-total form of paralysis where a person is wholly unable to move their extremities aside from their head.
When comparing complete vs incomplete quadriplegia, the complete version of the condition is usually considered more severe. Complete quadriplegia is often caused by severe, complete SCI in the cervical vertebrae or traumatic injuries to the brain.
Recovery and exercise will be more difficult for a complete quadriplegic than an incomplete quadriplegic, though there are still quadriplegia therapy options!
Spastic Quadriplegia
Spasticity (or spastic hypertonia) is a common side effect of spinal cord and brain injuries caused by trauma or disease. A spastic quadriplegic is someone who, though they can not consciously control their arms or legs, may experience muscle spasms in their paralyzed limbs.
Quadriplegics experiencing spastic hypertonia may experience hyperactive reflexes or involuntary muscle tightness that makes it hard to move into a relaxed posture.

NPR: N.C. hospital sues an 18-year-old quadriplegic to make her leave
"Ratcliff, a quadriplegic who uses a ventilator, has lived at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist since she was 13. She wants to leave, too. But not to the nursing home the hospital found for her in another state.
She wants to live in a home nearby, close to her family and school.
When she refused to move to the distant nursing home, the hospital sued her for trespass."

Re-design of SABOH! 💚🎨
He has a chin-attachment as well for his Powerchair which allows him to move around with chin movement, if his arm is “not working”, or is particularly weak.

40 days from now is the 8th anniversary of my spinal cord injury. The end of my 8 mile road, so to speak. Because I am of course in love with Eminem.
I’m eating small handfuls of dried blueberries. I wish I could eat the world.
I have a good sense of humor, so plenty of times in the last 8 years I have thought of my abandoned in a nursing home paralyzed life as a crafty simulation and so ‘hilarious’ and ‘not real’.
Oh but these 8 years have been the cruelest and most romantic years of Sheryn’s lifetime. Because of course I have past lives. You wouldn’t believe how many lives my soul has shared with humanity. These lives are coming back to me.
I want to absorb my past selves karma, but right now I’m stagnant and having trouble convincing myself some fresh water in my pond would feel good and encourage lake-ness.
Naturally I’m laying awake thinking about the future of our species at 12:30am.
Oh my. It’s already too late.

3 hospital security staff were arrested for dumping a quadriplegic patient in a park, who was later found laying on the ground by their mother who called 911
I’m glad these fuckshits got arrested because nobody ever seems to care when quadriplegics get abused in this fucked up country. Literal dogs get treated better

Act 1: Breaking Bad Neck
I woke up, or rather came-to, on the tile floor of the hotel room in Goa, India.
I had suggested a girls’ trip, the 3 other girls planned drug use and dancing at a rave in Goa over my mother’s birthday weekend. They were experienced drug users. LSD. Molly. DMT. Ketamine. Cocaine. Even a heroin-by-needle sampler (once, allegedly) amongst them. I LOOKED UP to these petite, younger ladies as though they were Timothy Leary and Ram Dass -led intellectuals.
Drug use as a means to spiritual enlightenment, sure, it’s a thing! These girls have their shit together and have traveled to Goa before, and the psychedelic community is very loving (old Sheryn’s rose-tinted glasses and naïveté - laughable!), *they’ll look out for me and won’t let anything bad happen.*
Was that the voice of the devil?
Anyway, when I came to I was on my left side, facing a cold wall. I was slapping the wall, moving the only part of me I could move, my right arm and hand. My hair was wet. My upper neck hurt badly, a splintering pain. I was bottom-naked. I couldn’t get up. I was covered in scratches and bruises. I had two black eyes, blood around the iris in one. I was still tripping on LSD from the night before.
My first time at a rave. My third time with acid. Three sugar cubes of consciousness ammunition, chewed and swallowed, a fleeting thought during ‘wow I’m eating pure sugar, not very paleo of me’…
Nag was on the bed, complaining loudly about me - “We tried to show her a good time and she ruined everything! Anything could have happened!”
The lighting and vibe in the room reminded me of the aesthetics in Breaking Bad. A putrid green life stench in the air.
I heard Ade ask Nag “What about compassion? This book (Be Here Now by Ram Dass, the girls were reading it as I lay with a broken neck - Nag thinks it’s a book you have to read on acid. I read it sober just fine.) This book speaks of compassion”, Ade said…
“Sheryn doesn’t deserve compassion!” Nag barked.
I spoke up. “If I could just get up I think I’d be ok.”
“THEN GET UP!” Nag said.
I couldn’t get up.
The last selfie on my phone, from hours before I broke my neck:
