Effective Note Taking: Tips to Improve Your Study Habits
Note taking is an essential part of studying, and developing your own note taking style can significantly improve your learning experience. However, note taking should not just be a process of copying information from the board or textbook. It should be personalised to your learning style and optimised for effective retention and understanding. Here are some tips to improve your note taking habits:
Structure Your Notes for Organisation and Revision
Your notes should have a clear structure with headings, subheadings, and lists for better organisation and revision. Writing notes as if you were explaining the topic to someone who does not take the course is a good practice to ensure that your notes are clear and logical.
Additionally, labelled diagrams and concept maps can help you visualise and understand complex information. Studies have shown that visual aids, such as images and diagrams, are easier to remember and recall than text alone.
2. Highlight and Use Colours to Emphasise Key Points
Highlighters and coloured pens are not just for making pretty notes. They can also help you categorise and emphasise key points, making them easier to remember. Develop your own colour coding system, using different colours for different topics, definitions, or important information. Symbols, such as stars or underlines, can also be used to create your own coding system.
3. Use Your Own Words and Avoid Copying Verbatim
Avoid the temptation to copy everything word for word from the board or textbook. Instead, focus on deciphering the key information and paraphrasing it into your own words. This not only saves time but also helps you consolidate your understanding of the topic. You can still incorporate high-level vocabulary and terminology into your notes but try to write most of the content in your own words for better comprehension.

4. Consider Using Cornell Notes
Cornell notes are a popular note taking system recommended by universities such as Cornell and Harvard. They include a heading at the top, a column on the side for keywords, main ideas, and questions, a large section in the middle for class notes, and a summary at the end for revision. However, note taking is a personal process, and you should incorporate elements that work for you.
Tumblr media
In conclusion, developing your own note taking style can significantly improve your study habits. Remember, note taking should be a personalised process that suits your learning style and helps you retain and understand the material better.

1/12 στο αμόκα! Don't miss!
For Day With(out) Art 2024, Visual AIDS announces Red Reminds Me…, a program of seven videos reflecting the emotional spectrum of living with HIV today. The title is drawn from the words of Stacy Jennings, an activist, poet, and long-term survivor with HIV, who writes: “Red reminds me, red reminds me, red reminds me…to be free.”

Aim for clarity and brevity to convey the essential information while ensuring it reflects the organization’s accomplishments and direction.

Present data and findings concisely, include relevant charts or graphs, and analyses the information. Conclude with actionable recommendations. Ensure proper formatting and proofreading for clarity and professionalism. Example reports can be found online for reference.
3. How to present a report?
To present a report, start with a clear introduction outlining the purpose and key points. Use visuals like slides or charts to enhance understanding. Speak clearly and confidently, summarizing each section as you go. Engage your audience by inviting questions and encouraging discussion. Conclude with a summary of findings and recommendations, ensuring clarity and impact.
4. What is a PPT report?
A PPT report is a presentation created using Microsoft PowerPoint (PPT) software. It typically consists of a series of slides that convey information, ideas, or data visually. PPT reports are commonly used in business meetings, educational settings, and conferences to summarize findings, present proposals, or share updates in an engaging format.

The travel industry is constantly evolving to meet the needs of a diverse guest population. Recognizing a growing demographic with unique needs, Hyatt Hotels Corporation is taking a significant step towards creating a more inclusive travel experience for neurodivergent individuals. This article explores the findings of a recent Hyatt-led survey conducted in collaboration with KultureCity, a leading non-profit focused on sensory accessibility, and NYU's Tisch Center of Hospitality. The survey aimed to understand the challenges faced by neurodivergent travelers and caregivers, paving the way for improved hotel stays from pre-arrival to check-out. Hyatt Opens Doors Understanding Neurodiversity and Its Impact on Travel Neurodiversity refers to the natural variation in human neurodevelopment and cognitive function. This encompasses individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), dyslexia, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and other conditions. According to KultureCity, one in four individuals in the US has a sensory need or invisible disability. The survey revealed that over 90% of neurodivergent travelers and their caregivers plan to travel at least once this year, highlighting a significant market segment seeking a more accommodating travel experience. Smoother Sailing: From Booking to Arrival Self-Disclosure: The Key to Personalized Care The survey found that nearly 70% of caregivers and over half of neurodivergent travelers are willing to disclose their neurodiversity during the booking process. This openness allows hotels to provide a more tailored experience. Hyatt, for instance, offers skills training to its staff to enhance the understanding and inclusion of neurodivergent guests. Properties like Hyatt Regency Aqaba Ayla in Jordan, a Certified Autism Center™, demonstrate leadership in this area by equipping staff to cater to guests with sensory sensitivities. The Power of Visuals: Setting Expectations More than half of neurodivergent respondents expressed a desire for enhanced visual aids during the booking process. Hyatt has responded by incorporating 3D virtual tours and detailed floorplans on its website properties like Thompson Central Park New York and Grand Hyatt Vail. These features allow travelers to familiarize themselves with the layout and prepare for their stay, reducing potential anxieties. Creating a Comfortable Space: Room Selection and Flexibility Location Matters: Accommodating Individual Needs While pre-assigned rooms can be convenient, the survey indicates that flexibility is crucial. Over 60% of caregivers believe the option to choose a room location would enhance the check-in experience. Both neurodivergent travelers and caregivers agree on the importance of selecting quieter rooms, such as those at the end of hallways or on higher floors. Hyatt empowers travelers with the ability to choose room types, amenities, and even specific locations on its website and app. Clear Communication: Building Trust and Comfort While email remains the preferred communication method, the survey highlights a desire for personalized contact. Approximately 30% of neurodivergent travelers value phone calls to discuss their upcoming stay. This preference is even stronger among neurodivergent business travelers. Hyatt addresses this need by offering phone, chat, and social media communication options for pre-arrival inquiries. A Personalized Welcome: Setting the Stage for a Positive Experience Digital Check-In/Out: Minimizing Interaction The survey indicates that over half of neurodivergent travelers prefer to limit interactions with front desk staff upon arrival. Hyatt addresses this by offering digital check-in and check-out options through its app, streamlining the arrival process. Promoting Wellbeing: In-Room Amenities and Dedicated Spaces The survey also highlights the importance of in-room amenities that promote relaxation and well-being. Approximately 60% of Millennial and Gen Z neurodivergent travelers and caregivers expressed interest in sleep aids like noise-canceling headphones or white noise machines. Additionally, over half of neurodivergent travelers indicated a desire for access to spaces and resources for self-care practices. Hyatt recognizes the importance of personalized well-being and offers a range of amenities and partnerships, such as access to Headspace content, to cater to diverse guest needs. A Commitment to Continuous Improvement Hyatt acknowledges that creating a truly inclusive travel experience is an ongoing journey. The company is committed to working with its disAbilities Diversity Business Resource Group and collaborating with experts like KultureCity to continuously improve its services and offerings. By prioritizing accessibility, clear communication, and personalized care, Hyatt is paving the way for a more welcoming and enriching travel experience for all guests, including those with neurodivergent needs.

Today, December 1, the Cultural Arts Building at UNCW joins museums, galleries, and arts institutions around the world to observe Day With(out) Art. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The first Day With(out) Art was organized by Visual AIDS* in 1989. Coinciding with World AIDS Day on December 1, it was a call for action and mourning that would draw attention to the devastating impact of AIDS on the arts community. Hundreds of museums and galleries participated in the one-day moratorium on exhibitions, shrouding works of art and replacing them with information about the virus. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Thousands of arts institutions and organizations around the world continue to unite on December 1 to demonstrate the power of art to raise awareness about the AIDS crisis, which is far from over. Since the onset of the epidemic in the early 1980s, 79.3 million people worldwide have been infected and 36.3 million have died of AIDS. In 2020, 37.7 million people were living with HIV and 1.5 million were newly infected. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ To recognize Day With(out) Art 2022, a symbolic piece of fabric has been installed over a mural in the lobby and the CAB Art Gallery lights will be dimmed for the day.   ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Learn more about Day With(out) Art 2021 by visiting www.visualaids.org/blog/enduring-care  ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ *Visual AIDS provides free services to HIV+ artists, including artist web pages, documentation of artwork, advocacy, exhibition opportunities and Artists Materials Grants, to empower artists to create. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #DayWithoutart2022 #daywithoutart #visualaids #cabartgallery #uncwartgallery #uncwculturalartsbuilding #uncw #uncwilmington #wilmingtonnc #gallery #art #exhibition (at CAB Art Gallery at UNCW) https://www.instagram.com/p/CloqJVFPqX6/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
