Media Preservation Monday

Yeah, yeah, as of this original post it's actually only Wednesday but hey, take this as a sign to take some initiative, and keep to it each Monday at minimum if you're actively writing!

What's Media Preservation Monday, you may ask?

MPM is your reminder to back up your writing at least three ways at least once a week or whenever you make major changes to your document(s).

Here's some incredibly easy ways to back up your writing:

One your Master Document(s), put a date on the file name, and every day you make changes, "Save As" the Document and change the date. Do this every time or day you make major changes.

Example: You start writing your Novella November Story on November 1st.

You name your master document "Novnov Project 11-01-2024"

The next day, you write some more, and at the end of your writing session, you go to save your document, and instead of simply hitting "Save" you choose "Save As" and save the new copy of the Document as "Novnov Project 11-02-2024".

You now have two copies of your project, and if you keep this up throughout the whole month, you will have a live snapshot of your writing progress.

Each day or after each major writing session, open up the folder containing your document, and back it up. The Easiest and simplest way to do this is to simply email it to yourself, but you can also create multiple backups by:

Save a copy of your dated Master Document(s) to different locations on your Hard-drive, to an external hard-drive, to a thumbdrive, etc.

If you're writing offline on a writing program like Libreoffice, upload a copy of your Master Document(s) to your preffered Cloud-based Writing Program of your choice.

Vice Versa: if you write on a Cloud-based writing program, download it to various offline-based locations.

Download the base document as well as download it as various ebook formats and send them to your ebook library on your phone or kindle or nook or reading app.

Make a personal discord server and upload the document/epub form of your Master Document(s) there [this is also a good way of making a kind of personal journal / diary etc]

Whatever you do, do not be complacent and assume nothing can happen to your writing. Back it up. Preserve it.

Don't have all of your hard work go down the drain because of one tiny unforeseen accident.

When it comes time to clean up your hardrive, always assume you don't have it backed up. Before deleting anything always take the time to copy it over to another physical drive or a cloud drive.

How to Farm and 100% Master Chef

Optimal Excursion Time

On average, you get more ingredients with 20 minute excursions. However this isn't realistic for most people. 150 minutes lines up perfectly with the LP regeneration. So if you are using LP the moment it tops off, send out the characters and then use your LP. However, it's more important to pick the time that works best with your schedule.

RNG is a big factor since most locations will have 3+ ingredients and you need to gather from multiple locations for one dish. It's better to do longer excursions on the areas with multiple items and do the shorter excursions on the featured ingredient. When I have to cook a lot of dishes or start charcoaling, this is when I would do the 20 minute excursions cause I'll likely still be cooking by the time the group returns.

Starting to Cook

It is best to start cooking as soon as possible using mainly Bronze and some Silver ingredients if you have an excess. There could be many recipes that need a lot of ingredients from an area you unlock later. If you wanted one of the chef cards, I recommend that you try to purchase the SR key as soon as possible. By sending out the featured chef cards, you can get additional ingredients but this is a small bonus. Only the two featured chef cards have this bonus. You can still complete the event without owning one of the featured chef cards as long as you don't miss too many excursions. The chef cards from the previous master chef events do not have a bonus.

Earning Tokens

Each ingredient quality can be assigned a value. At 100% skill, you can make a 3* dish as long as the sum of the ingredient quality is equal to or greater than the minimum quality score for that recipe.

Ingredient Quality Points

Gold - 3

Silver - 2

Bronze - 1

Minimum Quality Score at 100% to guarantee a 3* dish

2 Ingredient Recipe - 4 points

3 ingredient Recipe - 5 points

4 ingredient Recipe - 7 points

5 ingredient Recipe - 9 points

For example, you can make a 3* dish with 5 ingredients using 3 bronze and 2 gold (9 points).

Earning Money

Master Chef is the one of the best events to earn money and it only costs you time. You earn more per ingredient in a dish but the most optimal is the 2 ingredient dish. You will end up with a lot of extra ingredients if you are only gathering from two areas. But you can manually select the any two of the extra ingredients to create a failed dish/charcoal. Failed dishes will earn the same amount of thaumarks as successful ones.

For the completionists, this is the most effective way to 100% and 3 star any dish. This is important if you care that everything is complete for your album.

Reruns

You can 3* recipes quicker during reruns following the table below. The reruns create a new entry in your album so you will have to 3* the recipes again.

Virus

The soft sound of whirring fans could be heard from the android as he sat on the ground of the somewhat abandoned factory. He always liked to spend time here when not in the elevator, as it brought them peace, or what that would feel like if he wasn't a robot. They were powered down in sleep mode, a thing he did quite a bit since it does take quite a bit of power just to run.

Yes he could always power fully down, but never did for some strange reason, only doing it when needing major repairs. Plus, it was much quicker to boot up from sleep rather than from shut-off, so it helps. Though, it's not always the best thing, as he was still connected up to the internet, leaving them vulnerable to viruses that could infect his system.

But, he had a good Anti-Malware system, right? They had a strong one installed when they were created, and never had any problems with malware before. Surely the little android wouldn't have to worry about anything. They were safe. His system was protected.

Few of the lights that were powered on flickered every once in a while, adding to the soft noises of still running machineries. The flickering of the lights picked up, before being turned off, along with the area around the robot being filled with a black smoke. Never a good sign.

Bright, piercing red eyes were all that appeared in the smoke, looking down at Prototype with such resentment. The smoke slowly disappeared, revealing the dream parasite right in front of the robot, lights turning back on, though now much dimmer than before.

The parasite kept her piercing gaze on Prototype. Oh how she wanted to just rip the poor, helpless bot limb from limb, destroy any and every piece of him. But no, she was here for a reason; she needed them. Not to just mess and torment the android, though that would come with it, she knew how close he is with Pest so it's perfect.

She could never fully get into Pest's mind unlike the others, no matter how hard she tried, she could never seem to. She thought that maybe hijacking the bot in a way could get her closer to that insect. It shouldn't be too hard; she was powerful, so how hard could it be. Though not as simple as going into dreams, it should be at least somewhat similar in some way.

There are lots of ways she could go, she just had to stay undetected, both by Prototype's system and Pest. Viruses do it all the time! Yeah they'll eventually get found, but if it says undetected they can really do some damage. Not that she did want to cause immediate damage, she needed to take this slowly.

With that, the parasite disappeared again, black smoke appearing from where she was. The smoke trailed up close to Prototype, going through and into one of the vents on him. All the inner workings, wires, hard drive, SSD, everything.

Smoke traveled all throughout the parts, it seeping in more into everything. This was much easier than she thought, she should've tried this ages ago! Having access to everything in Prototype's system, being able to do whatever she wanted. Soon, the smoke left in the air fully disappeared, just as if she was never there.

Without warning, the fans on the little android stopped, more following behind it. He shut down.

Oh this is going to be fun.
