–A little while after I began helping Lucas and became friends with Nadia.

The weather had been good recently, and gentle sunshine unceasingly shone down even into the room where Nadia was hospitalised.

When I went there with Lucas to visit her in her well lit sickroom—that was when it happened.

‘Um, you know, recently I’ve been able to see “fairies.”’

‘’—............???’’

At her words, Lucas and I both couldn’t help but tilt our heads in doubt.

However, as if she had expected our reaction, she giggled with a sweet smile on her face.

‘Nadia—? By “fairies”, you mean those kinds of fairies…..?’

‘That’s right. They’re really, really cute!’

‘Cute fairies…..’

As Nadia confirmed the existence of the fairies, Lucas looked even more doubtful.

For my part, since something like the death curse existed, I thought it wouldn’t be strange even if there really were fairies. More than that…..

‘Certainly…..I wouldn’t be surprised if someone who is cute as a fairy like Nadia could see them.’

‘Fufu, you look so earnest when you say that. So much so that even I, her brother, feel bashful.’

I really had meant every word of what I had said.

‘Fufu, too bad, but that’s not it. They’re fairies that anyone can see. I think you and brother are looking at them even now.’

‘Oh, then perhaps you mean….for us to solve a riddle, Nadia?’

‘A riddle….?’

‘Not a real fairy, but a metaphor—something like that. Nadia is saying she wants us to find “something” that looks like a fairy.’

‘Something that looks like a fairy….’

I tried looking around the hospital room. And as I did, something caught my eye in the window from which tranquil sunshine entered the room. As I casually directed my gaze towards the scenery outside—

‘....Ah.’

I immediately became aware of the identity of the “fairies.”

‘What is it? Have you found a clue?’

‘Rather than a clue—I’ve found the “fairies” themselves. ….You mean those flowers, don’t you Nadia?’

Calling Lucas’s attention to the window, we looked outside together. What lay there were—very small, gold coloured flowers blooming all in a row.

‘Fufu, correct. You’re pretty amazing to find them so quickly.’

‘My, they really are lovely. If I saw them at night, I might mistake them for fairies myself.’

As if the three of us were out there walking in the peaceful garden….we gazed out at the flowers from the window.

‘—Nadia, if you like, shall I pick some of the flowers to decorate your room with?’

Nadia’s face lit up at Lucas’s suggestion. However, immediately after she shook her head.

‘I’d like that, but I think I’d feel a little bad picking flowers that look like fairies. I can see them from my bed, so it’s alright.’

Nadia murmured as if disappointed. Seeing her like that, I—

‘That’s it, then, why don’t we make “fairy flowers that won’t wither”?’

‘“Flowers that won’t wither…..”?’

‘What do you mean?’

‘Let’s recreate the flowers using cloth. If we do, we won’t need to pick the real ones, and we can use them to decorate Nadia’s room.’

‘’!!’’

Hearing my suggestion, both siblings simultaneously turned to look at each other.

‘That is a very good suggestion. If you don’t mind, would you be able to teach me how to make them as well?’

‘Yes of course. Let’s make them together, Lucas.’

‘C-Can I….help too? Doctor Capucine has forbidden me from holding things like needles since they’re dangerous, but maybe there’s something else…’

‘Of course. You can choose the cloth we’ll use, and pile them up…..There are plenty of things you can do to help.’

‘.....!’

Nadia smiled like a flower coming into bloom. Seeing her look so happy, I turned to face Lucas who was beside me—

‘....As I thought, Nadia’s smile really is like a fairy’s. …..No, even cuter than a fairy’s.’

‘Haha. People may call me an overly doting brother but—I agree.’

While chuckling, we whispered to each other in low voices.

A few days later. With all materials ready, I came once more to visit Nadia with Lucas.

At her bedside, I spread out the many various items—-.

‘Th-this is….quite difficult. All the more, because these are small flowers we’re replicating—ouch-!’

‘Lucas, are you alright….!?’

‘N-Not to worry…..No, although I have experience with needlework itself, I do not seem to have the skill for it at all. Each time I end up putting a hole into my finger like this. ….Is there some kind of trick to it?’

‘Hmm, let’s see, it might be a little difficult to explain with words…..might I borrow your hand for a moment?’

I covered Lucas’s hand with mine, and reenacted the fine movements of using a needle.

‘Like this, one by one, you sew firmly, checking as you go.’

‘I-I see….. I’m not sure how far I’ll get with it, but I shall try.’

A serious look on his face, Lucas once more faced down the needle and cloth.

As he did so, Nadia, who had been choosing the cloth for the leaf part, giggled while looking at the two of us with her beautiful eyes and said, ‘Fufu. Looks like you’re the teacher today, Ceres.’

‘Listen, both of you. I’m really happy right now. ….Will you keep spending such lovely times as these with me from now on too?’

In reply to Nadia’s question—

‘Of course.’

‘The bonds between us will never change, Nadia. …..Let us spend more peaceful times together in the future, all three of us.’

At our answer, our beloved fairy responded with a happy looking smile that was from the heart.

I just finished Virche Evermore about a week ago, and because I loved it so much, I thought I'd do a personal ranking of the characters and throw down my thoughts on all of them.

To be honest, I'm partly inspired to do this because I heard Mathis is the least popular love interest to the point where he even got rated beneath a few side characters in the Japanese official popularity poll, which I think is absolutely criminal.

Needless to say, major spoilers for the entire game below the readmore!

Mathis became an instant fave for me as soon as he was first properly introduced in the common route. He's so, so cute. I pretty much lost my mind from sheer cuteness at the CG of him being flustered when Ceres walked in on him writing his novel. His romance is sweet and I feel like he and Ceres go well together. His actual situation is tragic. Since he was my first route, I was so glad when I unlocked the salvation ends and could finally get a happy ending (by Virche standards) for him; he deserves a million times better than the death of personality he suffered in his main bad end, and his salvation end, while bittersweet, was beautiful.

Lucas is my poor little meowmeow. I feel so sorry for him, even when he's at his worst, not least because he's been dealt such a shitty hand in life. His route might be the biggest pain train of them all, especially given that even his salvation end is tragic as all hell; he and Nadia and Ceres deserve so much better. (It sure was a narrative choice to have the branching point for his endings be after Nadia's turned into a monster and he's been drugged into going on a murderous rampage, though...) I was a little bit skeeved by his romance at first when it was initially revealed that he'd been in love with Ceres for years, but it became more understandable when the circumstances behind it came out (guy was 15 at the time and in a very bad place) and by the time Ceres got to see the full truth of Lucas's situation I'd become way more invested in their relationship. The "goodnight kiss" CG in his salvation end absolutely broke me.

Yves is very cute and very sweet and has the best romance with Ceres and deserves so much better than he's gotten from shitty randos. The scene with Ceres kissing his facial scars while he's crying is my favourite romantic moment in the whole game. I like that he cries a lot, even if it puts me through the emotional wringer as much as he goes through it in his route. (This game's great for crying vulnerable long-haired pretty boys. I swear this isn't me being a sadist.)

Ankou is evidently the top husbando in this game's fandom, and besides his looks and voice, Le Salut certainly let me see why. He has one of the cutest blushing sprites, and after 600+ years of misery I really think he deserves way more happiness than he can get in any of the canon routes; he's a big reason why I'm hoping the fandisc will get licensed for an English release. His death in Le Salut's salvation end is the other most heartrending moment in the game for me.

Ceres isn't my favourite otome heroine ever, but I do like her quite a bit. It's easy to feel for her when everything she's been through has taken such a toll on her self-esteem, yet I love how her resolve to be less resigned and more proactive gets reflected in most of the right choices in the common route. She has nice moments of strength beyond that, too; I particularly enjoyed how indignant she could get at Capucine, and her defiance in the face of Jean hoping to capture her despair on camera was metal coming from someone like her.

Hugo is my favourite side character, regardless of how controversial he apparently was with the Japanese fanbase when the game originally came out there. (Heaven forbid that a gay character exists in an otome game, amirite? Especially one who happens to have feelings for one of the love interests...) The "Resemblence" bad ending with him is my favourite game-over, heartwrenching though it may be. I do wish his death on Yves's route didn't come immediately after my favourite romantic moment, though; that was a bit too on-the-nose for my comfort. I liked what Le Salut did with him towards the end, including him deciding to join Yves on his journey to Japan and the possibility being left open that maybe, just maybe, if Yves doesn't remain stuck on Ceres forever, Hugo's feelings for him could have a chance of eventually being reciprocated. (Yes, I ship this too even though I love Yves/Ceres. I feel like the part of the fandom Hugo was so controversial with might tear me apart for this, but I don't even care.)

Nadia is the sweetest little cinnamon roll who's too good for this world, too pure, and she deserves only good things and no bad things... which is a major reason why Lucas's route is such a pain train. Still, I'm glad that at least in Le Salut's salvation end she and her brother get to live and be happy. ;.;

Adolphe's okay; I like him well enough. In fact, I don't think it makes a whole lot of sense for an Ankou fan to dislike Adolphe too much, considering that Ankou is Adolphe from another timeline, even if Ankou has been through more than enough of his own experiences that he 100% qualifies as his own person. I don't think his angst over being "normal" is that hard to get behind in the context of this kind of story; he's the one "normal" person in a place like Arpéchéle, which from their point of view would make him the oddity if they knew, so I can't blame him for being afraid of what might happen if the truth about him got out (with Ankou's backstory being proof of the possible consequences).

Salome turned out to be a very interesting and complex character, and she looks so lovely without her habit, though I also can't help feeling like her writing was a little bit untidy in places. That said, the fact she got rated the second-least-popular character on the official poll, even below Jean of all people, is criminal.

Scien is my least favourite love interest by a big margin, and his route was also my least favourite by far. I realise that this is an extremely unpopular opinion, given that he's one of this fandom's biggest darlings, so I can't say I'm not wary of potentially getting some backlash for this. =/ I'm not opposed to asshole characters in the slightest, and Scien has his enjoyable moments, but he just doesn't do it for me on the whole. Furthermore, I tend to dislike characters who come across as "creator's pets", and Scien definitely feels like one to me between the favouritism he gets from the narrative and how his route acts like he can do no wrong to the point of bordering on double standards. I'll spare anyone reading this too much more crankiness from me, but I do want to add that it was super satisfying when he got called out for a change in Yves's route.

Dahut gave me very mixed feelings in the end. On one hand, he's a pretty good "final boss" and I have no issue with how he's written. On the other hand, his hypocrisy drove me up a bloody wall and I wish he was more sorry for his role in screwing up the Proust siblings' lives. Good character, but too frustrating as a person for me to really enjoy.

Jean is a scumbag, and as a Mathis fan I feel no remorse in hating him for the lies and abuse and other bullshit he put my boy through. Also as a Mathis fan, I felt enormously frustrated by how Le Salut was way too forgiving towards him and basically gave him a slap on the wrist for everything he did, even to the point where it felt like Mathis was being made to pander to his abuser; it's my one big complaint about that route, which I otherwise enjoyed. I was much more okay with how Jean was handled in Mathis's own salvation end; it wasn't perfect, but at least he wasn't a karma houdini there.

Capucine is an even bigger scumbag and thoroughly deserves his place as the most hated character. I lost count of how many times I went "fuck you" at him for his treatment of Lucas and Nadia. Every death he can get, whether it's being blown up offscreen or being butchered by Lucas offscreen or being mauled by Nadia onscreen, is cathartic and very well-deserved.

Capucine from Virche Evermore.

Genuinely fuck that guy with a chainsaw. Literally the worst guy in the game. I will protect the Proust siblings from him. Capucine is disgusting and cruel and a monster.

I hate Capucine so much that I straight up muted his voice in the game. I don't want to hear from him. I delighted when Scien bullied him and used him as a pawn. Capucine deserves nothing.

From the game Variable Barricade, my favorite is Shion Mayuzumi.

He is delicate and beautiful. A chronic kept man and firmly believes in living in comfort and indulging oneself with what one likes.

He does say some questionable things at times and doesn't like to work (which he actually has a good reason for). But! But he wants to devote himself to one person and give them all the attention they could ever ask for. And that's romantic in a way.

And I love him for that.

VIRCHE EVERMORE › ANKOU + canon divergence.

absolutely in no way connected to adolphe because i can do what i want on my blog ty. he is his own person, with his own story & connections to the main cast, esp regarding his interest in all of them. › ankou is the GATEKEEPER of hades, acting as watchman and ferryman to those who meet their ends whether through natural or unusual means. following a gruesome uptick of deaths in arpéchéle, he takes a special interest in ceres, the so-called "maiden of death" on the island. forbidden from interfering in human affairs, he's not able to simply give her the answers to solve the mysteries of the murders + suicides taking place, so he takes on the role of a semi-helpful observer, trying to nudge her in the correct direction without interfering too directly. that is, if she doesn't accept his contract.

he is :

not human. he's a god of death, however much he denies it.

not death himself, but rather, one of death's reapers.

immortal and unkillable. no matter how drastically he is injured, he will always be restored physically.

morally ambiguous, though he seems to have the best interests of certain people in mind at all times ( read : ceres, yves )

indeed gathering the lycoris flowers as yves tends to them for the purpose of crafting a bouquet, though the truth behind the story of whether or not it's meant to ultimately be the means to a proposal from death or not is something he lets remain steeped in myth, never confirming nor denying.

not omniscient, but knows quite a lot about others, including things they have not told him.

aware of ceres' personal affliction that makes her death incarnate, but is unable to tell her nor would he bother. his promise to help her become a normal girl is genuine. likewise, he is aware of the truth behind the death curse on the island.

he is also aware of many of the identities of characters hidden to the core group throughout the story and does meddle in all their lives in small ways, at times. this includes lucas as bourreau, capucine as ortie, and jean as camille.

powerful, but not violent without reason. he seems to be capable of magical / miraculous feats, but chooses not to interfere with the world around him as per his duty. still, he does lesser tricks rather frequently : disappearing into a mess of flower petals, invisibility among mortals, healing minor wounds for others, and giving them immunity to toxins if they drink his blood.

As I mentioned in my previous post, I bought the June copy of B’sLOG on kindle because I wanted info on Otomate’s new otome title Shuuen no Virche -ErroR:salvation- Below the cut is all the info with HQ photos~

Arpecheur is a small country in western Europe. He believes in God and treats all his students as precious gifts.

He’s an extraordinary scientist and the director of the National Research Institute, responsible for the creation of the “memory download”. Because he sees people as object, he looks at the lives of himself and his family as research material.

He grew up in the same orphanage as the main character, Ceres, and is the leader of the vigilante group. Is now living alone on the outskirts of the town. Has a blunt personality but is actually kind and always willing to help those in need. He is like a dependable older brother to the main character.

This otome looks and sounds so great! The story is interesting and the art is beyond gorgeous! It’s very pretty, actually. Also, I’m so excited to hear some of my fav seiyuu together in an otome~ You already know I get anything with Hirarin in it but I had no idea he’d be in this otome when I got hooked from the ! Ngl, I’ve been missing Hosoyan in otome lately lol. I’ll be playing this one in Japanese because I’m not waiting for a Western release! If it gets released here, I’ll just have 2 copies (like I do with Period Cube, Amnesia and Nightshade). Also, they’ve updated the official website with some new sections and the character bios I translated here! I’ve always loved Halloween but now I’ve got a new reason to look forward to October~

On a side note, I wonder if Hirarin’s character will have a deep voice?? That tends to be the case when he voices characters that look more feminine, and I’m here for it!
