Slow Dancing
Pairings: Bucky Barnes x male reader
Summary: it's nearly three in the morning, you and Bucky dance across the living room under the candle light as soft tunes play.
A/n: Something short and sweet. Requests open.
âŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻ
The antique grandfather clock in the hall chimed three times, its deep tones echoing through the quiet house. Moonlight, pale and ethereal, streamed through the sheer curtains, illuminating dust motes dancing in the single shaft of light. The cozy living room was bathed in the warm, flickering glow of a few strategically placed candles, casting long, dancing shadows across the worn wooden floor.
A melancholic melody, a timeless jazz tune, drifted from the old, well-worn record player perched on a vintage side table. The needle occasionally skipped, a momentary stutter in the smooth flow of the music, but the rhythm continued, a comforting heartbeat in the stillness of the night.
Bucky, his face etched with a lifetime of stories, held his husband close. Their bodies moved in perfect synchronicity, a practiced dance born from countless evenings like this. His husband, a picture of contentment, rested his head against Bucky's chest, a soft sigh escaping his lips. The steady thump of Bucky's heart, a comforting rhythm against his ear, mingled with the music, creating a lullaby of love and peace.
Bucky, his gaze fixed on the shadows playing on the walls, whispered, "Remember the day I married you? As handsome as ever."
His husband chuckled, his head still nestled against Bucky's chest. "Could say the same for you, James. Just a little less rugged." He teased, his voice a low rumble.
He loved everything about Bucky, the gruff exterior that masked a heart of gold, the way he always insisted on certain traditions, a holdover from a bygone era, a time before the war, a time before... everything. It was how Bucky showed his love, a stubborn insistence on the past, a way to cling to a semblance of normalcy in a world that had tried to shatter him.
The record skipped again, the music faltering, but they continued to dance, their movements fluid and effortless. Bucky gently dipped his husband, a slow, graceful motion, before pulling him back close. It was a ritual, this nightly dance, a cherished tradition born from the joy of their wedding day. Every weekend, without fail, they would pull out the old record, the one that had played during their first dance, and dance beneath the soft glow of candlelight, lost in the magic of the moment.
Alpine, their snow-white cat, a majestic creature, observed them from his perch atop the velvet armchair. He occasionally rubbed against their legs, a soft, furry purr rumbling in his chest.
It was a simple moment, a quiet dance under the watchful gaze of the moon, yet it held a profound beauty. A testament to their love, a reminder of the joy they had found in each other, a promise of countless more evenings like this, filled with the music of their love and the warmth of their shared memories.

Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Female!Reader Word Count: 2.7k T/W: none, fluff! A/N: Sam sets up reader & Bucky at a Christmas party Bucky taglist // @anreeixcobra â€ïžÂ @tsnelf7 â€ïžÂ @fandom-princess-forevermore â€ïžÂ @elainavmarie
âListen, I know youâre being nice, but you didnât have to invite me,â Bucky said for the seventh time as Sam led the way up the chestnut apartment stairs, which were decorated in garland and fairy lights that glow red and white.
âAnd if I hadnât, you would be doingâŠwhat?â Sam looked over his shoulder with a smirk on his face.
Bucky staggered for an answer, âI would beâŠâ âWatching some baseball reruns, alone?â Sam had to chuckle this time as he took the last step, turning onto the right floor.
âWow,â Bucky mumbled, knowing it was true as he half-heartedly walked along behind Sam.
He wasnât exactly thrilled to be going to a Christmas party, especially when he only knew one person. Sam had told Bucky all about you, and from a distance Bucky had formed a bit of a crush on you although he wouldnât admit it. What Sam didnât tell Bucky was that this was your Christmas party. So there they stood dressed in their Christmas casual best, Bucky sighing as Sam knocked on your door, a small gift in one hand.
Opening the door, you came into view, smiling brightly, âSam, hi!â
âHey, how you doing?â Sam embraced you, hugging tightly making you smile even wider.
âGood, good. I almost thought you werenât going to show,â you said pulling away, âyou know with all your hero duties, which I totally understand, thatâs whatâs important.â You spread your hands out for emphasis âMe? Miss your annual Christmas party? You kidding me, never,â Sam waved a hand assuring you, âOh, and this is my friend, Bucky.â
Looking just past Sam with a bright, warm greeting smile, you found Bucky, with his jaw slightly dropped, and staring right at you. Admittedly, you felt a warm sensation come to your cheeks when you saw him.
âUhhumm,â Sam faked a cough, nudging Bucky in the arm, âBuck, Iâd like you to meet my friend.â
Bucky did his best to compose himself, but you were simply that stunning in a deep red velvet cocktail dress, with off the shoulder sleeves accompanied by white heels. He felt a slight rush to his head when you said his name and introduced yourself as you reached out a hand. A nervous smile pulled at the corner of Buckyâs lips when he introduced himself, after already being introduced by Sam, you giggled softly.
âWell, donât let me keep you in the doorway, come in, come in,â you opened the door a little wider and stepped back with it.
Sam smiled contently at Bucky, who was glaring at him for keeping the fact that you were the host a secret. Upon entering, they were met with the smell of holiday sweets: peppermint, cocoa, and vanilla. The apartment was warm, but not hot, just enough to feel cozy. You had candles lit and Christmas lights dimly lighting the apartment. A stereo was playing records of vintage Christmas music, with songs by Ella Fitzgerald in between them.
âSam, you want me to take your gift? I can put it by the others,â You offered.
âOh, you know I know my way around,â he smiled, âI already see some people I want to say hi to by the tree anyway,â he gestured across the room, and headed off, lightly tapping Bucky on the arm with a âsee you in a minute.â
Bucky swallowed, realizing you stayed, âso uh-â he got nervous when you looked up at him, perking your eyebrows, awaiting his next statement, âhow do you know Sam?â
âSteve Rogers introduced me to him,â you stated with a nod, making Bucky pause.
âYou knew Steve?â he asked with an eager smile.
âSure did, he lived a floor below me,â you explained, pointing to the floor. Noticing Buckyâs smile and eyes widen, you continued, âyeah, when he moved in I said a quick hello, you know, but then I had to move some furniture down when and out when- well thatâs not important, but Steve saw me struggling with a table chair and helped me the rest of the day.â
Bucky crossed his arms for a moment, unable to stop smiling at the picture of Steve always helping, âand- then you met Sam?â
âYeah, heâs actually helped me through a lot, heâs a really great guy,â you were going to continue but a knock came to the door, âOh sorry, excuse me,â you started towards the door, âmake yourself at home, there are drinks in the kitchen,â you called back.
Bucky watched you greet some more friends you knew, before looking over a few people to find Sam. Making his way over, he grabbed Sam by the arm, pulling him aside as casually as possible, which was not very much. With a drink already in his hand, Sam asked if something was wrong.
âOh, no, nothing, just the fact that you failed to mention that she knew Steve, that she was the host, that I have no chance with her because sheâs way too nice,â Bucky said all in one breath.
âWhoa, whoa,â Sam chuckled, holding his hands up, but sympathizing with Bucky, âlook I didnât want to tell you because youâd get all macho and that just isnât you. Also, why couldnât you be with a nice girl? Câmon man, youâve got to get some confidence, whatâs with you?â âI donât know,â Bucky placed his hands on his hips sarcastically, âmaybe the 20th brainwash was just one too many. I havenât done this in a long time and she- she knew Steve, she knows you, sheâs not gonna pick me.â
âStop, stop,â Sam shook his head, looking down for a moment, âOkay, Iâm not really supposed to tell you this, but⊠sheâs got a bit of a crush on you.â
âNow youâre just being mean,â Bucky said with a deadpan expression.
âIâm serious,â Sam dropped his shoulders, âlook man, Steve talked about you a lot, I talk about you, and then when you came back, to the good side I mean-â
âThanks, didn't have a choice before,â Bucky grumbled.
âSheâs kinda been crushing, you know, like you,â Sam tapped Buckyâs chest with a smile.
âOkay, but nothingâs going to happen at a Christmas party,â Bucky rolled his eyes.
âThat you know of,â Sam raised his eyebrows knowingly, while he lifted a decoration of mistletoe.
âDid you steal her Christmas decoration?â Bucky whispered aggressively.
âNo,â Sam shook his head, âshe didnât have it up, it was just lying there so-â
âNo, donât- donât interfere with this. Sam, Iâm serious,â Bucky pointed to Sam who was already walking away casually.
Sam found you in the kitchen, putting out more snacks and cookies. It was just his nature to offer to help with refilling the drinks.
âIâm really glad you came,â you commented, keeping your gaze down.
âGlad I came or glad I brought someone else, huh?â Sam playfully dipped to tap your shoulder with his, âHuh?â
Unable to hide your smile, you laughed, âalright, I am glad to finally meet him, yes. I canât believe you didnât tell me he was coming, but thank you for inviting him.â âMhmm,â Sam was satisfied.
âBut come on,â you turned serious again, âitâs not like heâs gonna-â âYou know that is the second time I have heard this tonight,â Sam stopped pouring the drinks, looking directly at you now, âyou are a beautiful woman, youâve got a great soul, trust me any guy in this room would be lucky to have you. Donât dash your chances before you even take them.â
âYouâre too nice for your own good, you know that Sam?â You smiled at him, leaning shoulder to shoulder with him.
âYeah, I know,â he chuckled as you laughed too, âbut seriously,â he tapped your arm with the champagne bottle, âgive it a try, you never know, maybe try under the mistletoe.â
âI didnât put any out,â you shook your head, confused.
âYeahâŠI noticed that,â Sam smiled, setting the bottle down and giving a very obvious wink to you.
After Sam left, you took a drink for yourself, and then tried to guess what Bucky might like. Not wanting to come across too pushy on one drink, you grabbed the three options, plus yours and tried to balance them as you made your way through the room to try and find Bucky again.
You said hi to friends and made conversation on your way, naturally trying to carry four champagne glasses drew a lot of attention, but you explained and eventually made your way to Bucky, who was crouched near the stereo, looking at your record collection underneath the player.
âHi,â you said, leaning forward.
Looking over his shoulder, he smiled when he saw you, âhi,â standing up he put a hand in his pocket, âhope you donât mind, I should have asked.â
âOh, no itâs perfectly fine,â you smiled, âtheyâre on display for a reason.â
âI uh, I like your taste in music,â he said sincerely, which was almost enough to make you blush candy cane red.
âThanks,â you practically whispered, staring up at him.
âYou planning on drinking all those?â He asked, pointing to the glasses in your hand.
âHmm? Oh, no,â you laughed a little nervously, âI um, I didnât know which you might like so I brought them all and thought you could pick.â
âDonât mind if I do,â he half smiled and took two from you, shotgunning them both, leaving you stunned, when he took the third, this time just holding it.
âLiquid courage?â you asked shocked.
âI wish,â Bucky bounced an eyebrow looking to the side, knowing alcohol did absolutely nothing since the serum.
âOh,â you nodded, heart dropping, assuming heâd found someone else he liked at the party.
âNot that-â Bucky immediately stuttered, âit's just- social settings,â he gestured around as you listened intently, âIâm not used to them, soâŠâ âTotally understand you there,â you nodded.
âReally, youâre doing a great job as host,â he said.
âYeah, well, I just like to see other people happy, you know bringing others together,â you looked around seeing people chatting, âI think they enjoy talking to each other sometimes more than me, but thatâs okay, Iâm just happy to see people happy.â
Bucky gazed over your expression, a sentimental gladness, âand what about you? Do you ever make sure youâre happy? Always have someone to talk to?â
You flustered at the question, it felt so personal, but you worried you were taking it the wrong way, âWell,â you changed hands with your glass, âI guessâŠI at least know all of them, soâŠyou knowâŠâ
âNo one special though?â Bucky casually asked, âpretty woman such as yourself?â
You smiled widely, âno,â you almost whispered again.
Bucky stared at you while he took a sip, seeing your eyes shift and a smile hesitantly on your lips. A few moments passed of the two of you exchanging glances, before Sam called out to you, âdo you have any more of this sparkling stuff?â
âOh, shoot,â you said quietly, âI forgot,â you looked at Bucky before turning around.
âI can help,â he followed happily at your heels.
Entering the kitchen, you set your glass down and Bucky followed suit, watching you open the fridge door and quickly shutting it, bottle in hand. He had come to meet you at the fridge, you had turned to head to the small counter, and wound up actually meeting in the middle.
âOops,â you exclaimed running right into his chest.
He instinctively braced you by the arms to keep you from falling back, but also wound up keeping you close. With your hands around the bottle, you were completely in his embrace. Looking up you met his eyes, before looking up beyond him. Bucky trailed with your gaze, looking upward. Hanging from your kitchen light was a bunched piece of mistletoe. You both stared at it for a moment.
When Bucky looked down to you again, you swallowed harshly, completely nervous that heâd think you did it, âI- I didnât put up mistletoe.â
âSometimes things just happen,â Bucky smiled knowingly, before asking, ââtis the season?â
You bit your lip and smiled, nodding softly to let him know it was okay. He returned your smile, before bringing a hand up to caress the side of your neck, the other hand slid to your back, pushing you closer to him as his lips met yours. Practically melting into the kiss, you relaxed your tension. Feeling a little bold, you pushed onto your tiptoes when he began to pull back, you could feel his smile before he continued, hand making its way down to your shoulder before you came down off your tiptoes, slowly and softly breaking the kiss.
âTis the season,â you said, perking an eyebrow.
He chuckled, âmaybe this could last even out of season?â
You couldnât contain your smile, âI think some things certainly should. Itâs worthâŠa try at the very least?â
âCouldnât agree more,â Bucky tilted his head, dipping down for another kiss.
âAye, where the- oh,â Sam came in, acting surprised, as if he hadnât sent you on a mission to the kitchen, knowing Bucky would follow, âdonât mind me, I just wanted more of theseâŠchocolate dipped pretzels.â
Bucky looked up half annoyed, and half thankful for him in the first place, âit was sparkling champagne, Sam.â
âOh, right,â Sam acted again, âgot any more of that?â
You looked down to where you had been holding it, against your chest which had been pressed to Buckyâs, you giggled, looking around Bucky to Sam, âI think it needs to chill a bit again.â
Sam absolutely glowed at your answer and Bucky nearly blushed himself.

pairing: bucky barnes (bookstore au) x reader
summary: eager to escape the heat, you find yourself in the presence of a mesmerizing bookstore and an irresistibly beautiful man.
word count: 2.3K
authorâs note: hello! welcome to my third ficđ Iâm eager to share this with you all! I now have a taglist (the link is also in my bio) if youâre interestedđ„° thank you to @certainaestheticâ for helping me workshop this idea, @fuckandfluffâ for the grammar help, and @midnightfâ for hyping me up as I wrote it! likes, reblogs, messages, replies, and comments are cherished! the header images are from pinterest and the divider is from here. I hope you like it! đ
Youâre desperate to escape the smoldering heat. Itâs too hot to rest in the car; itâs been baking all day beneath the sweltering summer sun, parked just outside your place of work. If you attempt to sit in it now, youâd only be greeted with a wave of torrid air, stung with the touch of your seatbelt, and burnt from the searing leather of your steering wheel.
Youâre off from work earlier than usualâthe blinding sun is usually long beneath the horizon before you head home for the day. The pathetically small sun visor does nothing to shade your eyes from the blazing sunlight. Rather than driving half-blind, you decide to wait out the setting sun.
As you ponder how to spend the rest of your afternoon, you realize that now is an opportune time to visit the new bookstore, The Book Haven, that opened last month. After changing out of your uniform and throwing your work stuff in the trunk, you walk across the plaza to the shop entrance.
The bookstore greets you with the chime of a bell and a rush of cool air as you step in, a blissful contrast to the scorching outdoors. The welcoming scent of coffee grounds and the tangy aroma of old books accompany the refreshing breeze. You take a deep breath, appreciating the convivial atmosphere. The bookstore is a sublime sight; words almost canât describe its charm.
Shelves like skyscrapersâstuffed to the brim with books, magazines, and comicsâgraze the ceiling. An intimate reading nook lies next to the door; an inviting window seat dwells beside a floor-to-ceiling window. Clear mosaic window clings cover the glass, casting beautiful rainbows throughout the store. Stringed vintage light bulbs illuminate the shelves; candle-lit sconces adorn the top corners of each one. Oriental rugs lay between the shelves, covering a dark mocha floor. Tucked in the back of the store is a small coffee cranny, hidden at first glance. Frank Sinatraâs charming, rich vocals travel through the air, tickling your ears. The owner clearly put the utmost time, energy, and love into the creation of their shop. It is unequivocally perfect and already one of your favorite places.
You wander to the classics section, enthralled by the exquisite covers. Sensing someone nearby, your eyes glance at movement caught in the corner of your eye. Your stomach somersaults at the stunning stranger. The instant you lay your eyes on him, you forget to breathe for a momentâyour breath engulfs your throat. Youâre astounded by the Adonis of a man before you.
Bristles of scruff grace his defined jawlineâhis low man-bun neatly styles his dark chestnut hair. A grey short-sleeve button-up shirt hugs his toned arms; a white tank top clings to his lean, fit frame; cuffed slim-fit khaki pants, help up by a bronze braided belt, embrace his thick thighs; and weathered, chunky brown leather shoes don his feet.
Through the rose-colored glasses that surround your heart, your soul imagines a life with a perfect stranger. The hopeless romantic in you canât help but steal glances, hoping to catch a better glimpse of him. The moment he turns to walk away, your heart sinks to your stomach. You hope this isnât the last time you see this gorgeous man.
A few minutes later, youâre mulling over a collectible edition of The Catcher in the Rye, attempting to justify purchasing yet another copy of your favorite book. A melodic voice interrupts your pondering. âThatâs a pretty edition of The Catcher in the Rye youâve got there.â
You turn towards the charming voice. Lo-and-behold, itâs the love of your life: the handsome stranger youâve mentally lived a lifetime with. His beauty is even more profound up close: now you can see that his eyes are a lovely shade of blue. His eyes, haunted by a subtle sadness, draw you in, unlike anything youâve experienced before. You find yourself entranced in his sea-blue current; you could easily drown in his gaze. You attempt to hide your awestruck expression and converse with him like a normal human being. âI agree! I already own a copy though, do I really need a new one?â
âI think we both know the answer is always yes,â he assures.
âOkay, youâve convinced me. I'll get it! Thank you for justifying my unnecessary purchase.â
Your words hang in the air, everything going quiet as you wait for the ravishing stranger to introduce himself. The two of you stare in silence at each other, the tension thickening as the seconds pass by. After a few moments, his face flashes in realizationâyou were waiting for his name.
âIâm Bucky,â he offers with an enchanting smile, extending his hand out to you. You share your name as the two of you shake hands. Your eyes stare down his veiny arm to his ring-studded fingers grasped around yours. You allow yourself to imagine for a few moments how amazing those fingers would feel tracing your arms, tangling your hair, and teasing your inner thigh. Your lustful reverie comes to an abrupt halt at the sight of the book nestled inside the crook of his elbow: The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka, the bane of your existence. You scoff with furrowed brows; of course, Mr. Handsome Stranger would be interested in the one book you despise.
âGot something to say there, sweetheart?â he questions with an amused grin.
âOut of all the classic novels in this entire store, thatâs the one you chose? The Metamorphosis?â
âWhatâs wrong with this one?â he jives.
You pause for a second, debating whether itâs worth it to argue with a stranger. The pondering lasts only a few seconds; the exhaustion from your day disintegrates your filter. Besides, you loathe The Metamorphosis.
âWhat isnât wrong with it? The dude wakes up thinking heâs an insect? The reader has to sit there throughout the entire book, wondering whether heâs a man or a bug? What the actual fuck? I didnât appreciate the existential crisis that book gave me at fifteen; if I can help someone else avoid the suffering caused by that monstrosity, I'm going to do my part,â you huff, unamused by the joy Bucky seems to gain from your zealous analysis.
âWow, what a passionate review! Perez Hilton would be envious of your slander. Okay then, what classic would you recommend instead?â
You cross your arms, expecting him to challenge your response. âThe Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde.â
âThatâs a play,â he counters.
âItâs published as a book; it counts! Itâs witty, playful, and has a happy ending, which is the most important point of all. It also doesnât make you want to pull a Fahrenheit 451 and burn every copy in existence,â you attest.
He steps closer to you, tucking loose strands of his hair behind his ear. âLife doesnât always have a happy ending, sweetheart.â
Great, there he goes again with that freaking pet name; itâs going to be the death of you. He knows your name, you just gave it to him, yet here he is, infuriatingly insisting on calling you sweetheart instead. Stupid pretty boy with his ocean blue eyes and amorous smile.
âThatâs exactly the point,â you sigh, pinching the bridge of your nose. âSo, why would I want to read something that doesnât end well? If Iâm going to escape this reality for a while, it better be for a happier one.â
âAnd if it's not?â
âThen Iâll throw the book across the room and make up my own happy ending!â
âOoh, aggressive,â he tuts. âThe owner of this place might not be too happy with you if youâre throwing books all over the place; itâll scare away the customers.â
âThen itâs a good thing the owner isnât here,â you interject confidently, knowing full well you have no idea who the owner is.
âWell, that just isnât true, sweetheart. Youâre looking right at him.â
Heâs lyingâhe has to be. Why would a dreamboat like Bucky own a bookstore?
You scoff, âyouâre not the owner of this place.â
âIâm not? What makes you say that?â he banters.
âPeople like you donât own bookstores!â you exclaim.
âPeople like me?â he goads, cocking his head to the side. The action erupts butterflies in your stomach.
âAttractive people!â you groan.
âSo you think Iâm attractive?â he plays, stepping to close the gap between you.
âPsh, no, you wish,â you muster. The heat spreading across your cheeks betrays your bluff.
There are mere inches between the both of you now; you hope he canât hear your racing heartbeat. You watch his eyes go down from yours to your mouth and back up again. He eyes you with a smirk, his teeth playfully tugging his bottom lip. It takes everything in your power not to give in to his spell.
âIâve known you for what, five minutes? I donât go around kissing strangers, Bucky,â you falter, taking a step back from his closeness.
âThen letâs not be strangers, sweetheart. Grab a coffee with me; I know a nice place, not far from here,â he flirts, gesturing to the counter at the back of the store.
âLet me learn more about what goes on in that pretty little head of yours,â he purrs, his breath tickling your cheek.
âOkay, fine. Iâll have a coffee with you,â you surrender.
A bright, honeyed smile dons his face. Â
âIt better be good, though. Not the stale crap you usually get in the middle of the afternoon.â
âIâd only give you the best, sweetheart,â he winks, extending his right hand. You take it; he gives you a soft squeeze before weaving you through the towering shelves.
Your discussion continues with another passionate book review as he prepares your drink. Heâs a sucker for gritty dystopian novels while you gravitate towards sappy romances. He shares his passion for painting as he guides you to the reading nook. The artwork hung on the edges of the bookcases is crafted by himâa detail you hadnât noticed at first glance. His stunning work features both landscapes and people. He loves to sit in a picturesque landscape and paint for endless hours. Occasionally, he takes his old polaroid as he explores the town, snapping moments between strangers, translating their intimacy to canvas when he gets home.
He gestures for you to take a seat in the reading nook before handing you our steaming cup of joe. You sit with your legs crossed, your hands hugging the mug in your lap. Bucky sits with his leg draped over the side of the bench, his left foot pressing into his right thigh. The conversation shifts topics; the two of you divulge your desires and unfulfilled ambitions. You arenât sure if itâs the look in his eyes, the sweet cup of joe in your palms, or the aroma of coffee surrounding you, but in his presence, your senses feel wide awake.
Before you know it, the mesmeric moon replaces the sizzling sun, melting away the blistering heat, and the steaming cup of coffee in your hands has long chilled. Buckyâs employee interrupts the blissful rendezvous, informing him that all the closing duties are complete, and heâs headed home for the night.
You stare at your watch in shockâit's five past nine. Where did the time go? You apologize profusely to the poor kid who had to close up alone; he assures you itâs no problem.
A melancholic pit in your stomach forms as you turn back to Bucky. Heâs nestled himself into your soul; you donât want to say farewell to him so soon. He has a sad glint in his eyes; you hope itâs because heâs also dreading the end of this perfect night.
âCan I walk you to your car?â he asks timidly, his earlier suave demeanor gone from his voice. He stands up in front of you, offering his arm to escort you.
âIâd love that,â you reply with a shy grin, grabbing his arm and hugging it tightly.
In the blink of an eye, youâre in front of your car. You let go of his arm and lean against the trunk. You stare into his eyes, hoping that he can see without the use of words how much you donât want this moment to end. Thereâs a few moments of painful silence before Bucky clears his throat.
âSo, now that weâre not total strangers, how about that kiss?â he flirts with pleading eyes.
âOkay,â you reply with a bashful smile.
He slowly reaches his hand towards your cheek, softly stroking it with his thumb. He presses his forehead against yours. âAre you sure you want to do this? âCause if we do, you might not be able to get rid of me, sweetheart.â
âYes I do, Bucky,â you giggle.
He grins as he gently presses his pillowy pink lips on yours. The kiss steals all the air from your lungsâhis touch sends tingles throughout your body, electrifying your veins. Youâre breathless when your lips finally part.
âLet me get your number before I let you go,â Bucky insists. You nod and hand him your phone, unable to form a coherent thought. Â The ghost of his lips and fingers trace your figure. Youâre barely acquainted with his tender touch, yet you feel naked without it, yearning to once again be within his grasp.
You exchange phonesâadding your number and name with a sparkling heart emoji and swiftly passing his phone back before you can change your mind. Bucky snaps a quick selfie for his contact, smirking for the camera. You grin when you see he also put emojis by his name: a beetle and a kissy-face.
He pecks your cheek before opening the car door for you. âHope to see you around, lovebug.â The new pet name burns your cheeks and erupts butterflies in your stomach.
He doesnât leave the parking lot until your car disappears completely from his view.
You drive home with thoughts of Bucky swirling in your mind. You send a silent thanks to the universe for bringing this beautiful man into your life. His voice, touch, and smile echo in your thoughts for the remainder of the eveningâhis presence paving its way through your dreams. Youâre falling hard and fast; you only hope heâll be there to catch you.

The Little Red Tree House
This adorable playhouse belongs to my mother and her dolls. It was a gift from her sister and nephew, who are both talented woodworkers.Â
This is based on Kitâs tree house from her retired collection.Â
This was released in 2008 as a tie-in product to Kitâs movie, and so bears more resemblance to the treehouse featured there. It was first introduced in the short story âKitâs Tree Houseâ. In the story, Kit is longing for a tree house, after her plans for one were derailed when the wood was needed instead to build an addition onto the house to hold more boarders. But Stirling gets some free wood scraps from a boarded-up store, and he and Kitâs dad build her a tree house. Itâs nothing near as fancy as Kit had hoped for, but in the end she makes it work.Â
My mom liked the concept of a doll-sized treehouse, but didnât want to pay scalper prices for it, which is common for items that had a limited run and were retired years ago. American Girlâs version is also a little smaller than sheâd like; she wanted something that would hold more than just two dolls.Â
This is what it looked like until I arrived for a visit with my parents. My mom wasnât sure how she wanted to paint or decorate it, so she asked for my input. I suggested red with white trim, to make it look like it might have come from weathered scrap wood used to build a barn, sort of like it was in Kitâs story.
Jojo and Sierra pitched in to help paint! What we did was paint it a bright red color, then very lightly go over it with a big brush dipped in white paint, to give it that weathered antique look.Â
Then we painted the trim white, left the roof unpainted, then stained and varnished the two pieces of wood that make the balcony.Â
Here it is all finished!Â
While this was originally supposed to be Kitâs tree house, my mom isnât quite sure yet how she wants to incorporate Kitâs furniture or decorate it like Kit and Ruthie might like. By the time I go back in a few months to visit again, sheâll probably have it decorated for them.
So in the meantime, this will be Rachelleâs cool little hangout!Â
Rachelle is Sierraâs cousin who is the same age as her. She was thrilled to have her cousins come from New Mexico to Arizona and visit her during spring break. They had tons of fun playing in the house and getting it looking just right. (Rachelle is a Truly Me #56 customized with a #32 wig).Â
Keep reading to see the interior lights and decor!Â
The nice thing about this tree house is that itâs open in the back.
This makes decorating and posing dolls inside very easy.Â
Rachelle let Jo bring the furniture in and get it all set up (sheâs athletic and so is pretty strong!).Â
The table in the corner is an off brand that came from the thrift store. The little bureau is another thrifted find. The lantern on top is a WellieWisher accessory and the cactus is a candle. The hobby horse in the corner is homemade, and so are the posters. On the left is a constellation map and on the right is a vintage Saguaro National Park poster. The park is pretty close to where Rachelle and her family live, so sheâs been there lots of times!Â
And Licorice the cat likes to visit and nap in the tree house too.Â
On this wall is an easel from Tarynâs (Maplelea brand) collection. The shelves are a thrift store find, and on top are Rachelleâs dolls Addy and Luciana. To the left is an art print I found on Pinterest. And the rug is I think a woven placemat.Â
For lighting, right now the tree house has a string of blue fairy lights.Â
At night, they moved all the stuff to the balcony and set up their sleeping bags!
The nice thing about sleeping out here is that they can be as loud and boisterous as they want!

Lars and Kickiâs elegant rustic holiday house was built in 1746. Inside, you can see some of the ancient features still intact.
The fire from the old hearth stove in the kitchen sends a warm glow to the dining room.Â
A vintage armoire holds a large collection of tea pots, cups, saucers, and pitchers.
Elegant living room. Love the patina on the shiplap wall and the lush velvet sofa.Â
The bedroom is elegant as well. I like the look of the gloss white ceiling.Â
This part of the home looks like it was once a barn, and they left the animal stalls intact.
Christmas greens and candles line the floor in front of the window wall.Â
The old wood is amazing.Â
Pretty potting area.
What a dreamy old home.

Man of the House | one
Sam Wilson/fem!Reader, future dark!Bucky Barnes/fem!Reader | 18+
Moving day is finally here! Private and public celebrations are in order.
âș warnings(!): nudity, non-graphic sex scene, alcohol, slow burn. eventual dubcon/noncon, eventual choking in future chapters. this is a dark fic.
|| Series Masterlist ||
a/n: taglist is open for this series, just hmu with an ask.
đđ đ§đđđ đ»đđȘ
Boxes and boxes filled the hallway as men in uniforms brought them in, the moving truck parked in front of the house. The stench of sweat invaded your nostrils as you guided the men on which rooms to settle them. Sam was doing his fair share, gathering your more personal boxes upstairs.
It was moving day, finally.
After two weeks of preparing and prepping, you finally took the step into your new home. A day earlier found you busy with cleaning; sweeping and mopping the floors, wiping the windows, and dusting the furniture among others. You even took the time to pick up some ornaments to decorate your new house. The scented candles and key bowl looked great next to the antique lamp.
When all the boxes and furniture were settled, you paid the movers a hefty sum and left them on their way. Now that left you, Sam, and a load of boxes to be unpacked.
âIâll start with the ones in the kitchen,â Sam said, âAnd then maybe we can have a quick lunch later.â You nodded, walking towards the parlour.
Seeing the clear windows elated you, free of dust and stains, permitting sunlight which illuminated the room in a warm glow. The velvety feel of the red Chesterfield sofa was satisfying, letting your mind wander to extravagant wine parties.
Riffling for the retractable knife in your pocket, you started slashing through the boxes, uncovering your book collection over the years. One by one, you arranged them on the pine wood bookshelf; a new addition brought from your previous dwelling.
After the boxes were emptied, you stood and admired your work. The parlour would make a great room for reading, you could imagine relaxing with a glass of wine and a good book after a day's work.
Ding dong!
You swerved to face the hallway, startled. The ringing of the doorbell audibly loud, reverberating through the entire house.
âWho is it?â Sam stood in the entryway, coming from the kitchen. You shrugged.
Entering the hallway, Sam opened the door, standing face to face with their visitor. On the other side stood Mr Rogers, his weathered face smiling. He looked pretty dapper for a man standing on your doorstep. In his hand, he seemed to be holding a small box. Of what, youâre unsure.
âMr Rogers! Nice to see you,â you greeted. âWhat brings you here?â
âHello, dear. Just wanted to drop off some extra keys I had since I donât really need them,â he said, jiggling them into your hands. âSeems like you have a fella, heâll probably need it.â Sam laughed, appreciating the humour.
âSam Wilson, sir,â he introduced himself, offering a hand, âNice to finally meet the man of the house.â
âLikewise, son,â Mr Rogers shook. He seemed to still for a moment before knocking out of it. âBefore I forget, hereâs some tea. A housewarming gift, if you will.â He handed you the small box, âItâs chamomile, good for aiding sleep.â
You were humbled by the kind gesture of the elder, thanking him. Before he could leave, Sam invited him in for lunch, âI was about to fix up something quick.â
âItâs okay, son. I have places to be and people to meet today, you two have a good day,â he bid farewell, got in his beetle, waving as he drove away.
âThat's a very thoughtful landlord right there,â Sam whistled. You agreed, reminded of how lucky you were, again. Sam closed the door, lulling the house in silence once more. âYou hungry, baby?â
âNot yet, really,â you turned to him. âWhy?â
ââCause Iâm currently hungry for something else,â he smirked, mischief swimming in his pools, âHow about we christen the place, starting with,â âhe startled you, lifting you by the hipsâ âthe kitchen!â Â
You chortled, as Sam carried you, hands supporting your buttocks, at the same time  giving them a squeeze. The cheeky bastard.
Clothes were shed. Hands roamed, mapping every inch of uncovered skin. The exchange of fierce kisses and the battle of tongues left you both frenzied.
Sam settled you on the island countertop. The cold granite chilled you. He marveled at your form, hungry eyes taking in everything; your stiff peaks, your mussed hair, your enticing throat.
âIâm starving baby, let me taste you,â he husked, descending to his knees. Calloused hands pushed your thighs apart, serving you to his greedy eyes. True to his words, like a man starved, he helped himself. He was ravenous.
You cried, moans carrying through the halls, echoing. You had no care for the world.
The both of you continued your escapade, carrying to other parts of the house; unaware to the lone shadow.
Watching your every move.
đ»đđȘ đđđ
The entirety of yesterday was pure bliss as far as you remembered, waking up in bed to sunlight barely peeking through the glass door. Samâs hand draped across your hip as he lightly snored behind you.
You sighed, feeling sated. What a way to start the morning.
Lazing for a bit, you admired your new bedroom. The once bare four-poster is now draped in delicate tulle, akin to a large veil. The vanity across the bed looked regal, adding to the opulence. This was by far your favourite room. Besides the parlour, of course.
You gave a kiss to Sam between the brows. Slowly slipping away, you got out of bed. Grabbing your robe, you padded across the hall and headed downstairs.
The house was eerily silent in the mornings. Only the creaking of stairs audible as you descend.
In the wee hours, the little sunlight and heavy curtains casted long shadows on the walls. The furniture in the dark stood, creating the illusion of people, making the parlour seem frightening to the average eye. The hallway seemed long and never-ending, getting darker the further it went.
The look of the house in the dark could have been what considered it so terrifying. The mind does tend to wander when in darkness.
Passing by the hallway, you setted on fixing breakfast in the kitchen. Before you could step a foot further, something faint caught your ears.
Scrrrt. Scrrrt. Scrrrt.
It repeated. Again and again. Like nails on wood.
Scrrrt. Scrrrt. Scrrrt.
You squinted, searching for the source. The low visibility was not helping. Fumbling the wall, you turned on the lights.
Scrrrt. Scrrrt. Scrrrt.
Nothing was in your vicinity, yet the noise never ceased. Using your sense of hearing, you listened, tracing it.
Scrrrt! Scrrrt! Scrrrt!
It became audibly louder and erratic as you neared. Your feet found you under the stairs. In front of the black door.
Scrrrt! Scrrrt! Scrrrt!
Faster and faster. As if a desperate call for help.
Grabbing the nearest object âan umbrellaâ you gripped it tight. The fear of it being a wild animal overcame you.
Scrrrt! Scrrrt! Scrrrt!
Slowly turning the knob, umbrella at the ready, you pushed the door, expecting to be pounced.
Instead, what greeted you was a white fluffy creature. A cat. The same cat you met weeks ago. Waiting on the steps, as if it were expecting your arrival.
âNow, how did you get in here,â you cooed, squatting. The cat murmured back.
Up and down. Left to right. You tried theorising how the cat came to be in the basement. The door was closed, too heavy for a cat. The small windows were shut tight, only allowing light to pass through. The last one here yesterday was Sam, and he wouldâve noticed a cat. Yet, it managed to sneak in. How peculiar.
âWhat are you doing down here.â
You jumped, startled. Your heart almost gave out. Facing the door, Sam stood on the stairs, crusts still in his eyes.
âYou startled me!â you grumbled. He put his palms up, wearing his toothy grin.
âI heard scratching sounds and found this cat,â you explained, âWhich by the way, did you see yesterday?â
âI think I wouldâve seen if there was a cat, but no,â he replied. âIs the little cutie hungry?â he cooed, in a babying tone.
Unexpected to the both of you, the cat hissed. Eyes turned into slits, fur standing, claws out, like a being possessed. You worried it might attack Sam.
Before you could intervene, it sped off. Zooming between Samâs legs, and headed upstairs, meowing uncontrollably.
âItâs never done that before,â you mumbled, surprised. âIâll go let it out.â
You followed upstairs, nearly missing the faint scent.
đ»đđȘ đđšđ
Light chatter permeated the space as guests began filtering into the parlour. Wine glasses in hand, they mingled around, exchanging conversations, with the occasional boisterous laughter. It was a light and cozy setting, with every tummy sated, just catching up with long time friends.
âOkay, can I just say, that despite being a 100 year old monument, this place is actually nice?â Tony starts, âLike when I looked outside it was like something out of the Addamâs Family, but then I went in and wham! Itâs like a cute lilâ antique store.â
Perplexed, you really didnât know how to reply to that. âErr, thank you?â
âStop it, Tones, that wasnât a compliment,â Rhodey slapped Tonyâs back, âItâs a really nice house, very fancy.â
âThe house is lovely, I love the vintage feel of it,â Pepper piped up, shooting Tony a look.
You smiled, âThank you guys, itâs been a dream to live in a house like this.â Just then, Sam came, curling an arm around your waist.
âAnd my girl here got it for a steal too,â Sam intervened, jovially. âIâm just the lucky guy who gets to stay over some nights.â
You slapped Samâs chest as he laughed, the trio joining. You reveled in the warmness of the moment, surrounded by friends. Sharing the start of a new beginning.
Everybody else in this room lived in the city, preferring the closeness to their work. You preferred the same. Itâs been a long time since you all got together in the same space. You missed it.
After a few minutes of chatting, you excused yourself. A new bottle of wine and light dessert was needed.
Passing through the dining room enroute to the kitchen, you saw Wanda at the end of the hall. She was standing stock-still, staring downwards. You walked closer.
Stopping next to her, you saw that she was staring down at the entrance of the basement. Unmoving.
âUm, Wanda, is there anything wrong?â you asked, confused.
That seemed to snap her out of her stupor. She looked at you, face impassive before giving a thin smile.
âOh, itâs nothing,â she said. âWhere does that lead to, by the way?â
âThatâs the basement,â you replied. âCome on, do you want more wine? Dessert?â
âDessert sounds nice.â
Arriving into the parlour, you brought out the mini pavlovas with Wanda and set them on the coffee table. The wine bottle was handed off to Sam as he refilled glasses for your guests.
Immediately, everyone began to congregate in the middle to where the sofas were, taking a pavlova and having their refill. Your pavlovas were a favourite among your friends. You even had to swat Scottâs hand from taking more than one at a time.
The chatter turned up again, everyone catching up within the confines of your home. You relaxed beside Sam as he chatted with Vis about football of all things. Vis looked bored, yet was too polite to switch topics.
âSo, a little birdie told me that this house is haunted, that true?â you heard Tony as he came to stand beside the sofa, pavlova in hand, âIf so, then damn! It really does live up to the Addamâs Family aesthetic it has going on.â
âTony!â Pepper hissed from across the room, reprimanding him. She turned to you, âIâm so sorry for him.â
âItâs okay, Pep,â and you were, Tonyâs just being, well, Tony. âWhere did you hear that though? Even I didnât know at first.â By now, everyone was paying attention to you two.
âSaw it in a blog when I was looking for navigation, apparently they only managed to live here for two weeks,â he said, taking a bite of the sugary confection. âSo it is true? Feeling watched? Things disappearing? Ghostly apparitions? Oooh.â
You heard Scott whisper yell, âSo we went willingly inside a haunted house? Are we cursed?â in the background. Hope shushed him.
âNone so far, the landlord even told me that he had never experienced anything living here. Iâd take those blog posts with a grain of salt if I were you,â you said, sipping your glass. âBesides, I donât really believe in ghosts. Ever heard of infrasounds, Stark?â
Tony smirked, âI expected no less from a woman of science.â He finished the rest of his dessert. âSay, how âbout we make a bet? If you can live here past two weeks, iâll give you $400.â
âUgh, Tones,â Rhodey grumbled at the back.
âMake it $500 then weâll have a deal,â you smirked, not backing down.
â$450â
âNo, $500.â
âUgh, fine! $500.â He eye-rolled, holding out his hand. âLetâs shake it.â
âDeal.â
You both shook hands, sealing the deal in front of a live audience that is your friends. 500 dollars, two weeks.
âWhy do I feel this wonât go well,â Vis sighed, holding onto Wanda. She nodded absently, eyes locked to a different corner.

You grinned as you loaded the last of the bins onto the cart you got at Costco ages ago for when you needed to move a lot of things...which with the way you went all out at times at the grocery store was often enough that it had been more than worth it. Sam and Bucky wouldnât know what hit them. You loved the holidays, more than anyone you knew. There was something magical about the decorations and the atmosphere that the last three months of the year brought.Â
The three of you shared a house on the grounds of the Avengers compound. When the team started settling down and more agents with families started being brought on, it made sense to create a place for them where their families would be protected. In a sense, a new town had sprung up, with the Avengers having their own neighborhood. You had enough room to have spacious yards and soon enough, trick or treaters would be knocking on your door, the children of agents who were excited to show off their costumes.Â
Bucky and Sam had both been away on a mission. You were still out with an injury. It was October 1st and no one could tell you no, you cannot put the Halloween decorations up yet. You had started putting out small, autumn themed decorations as soon as the seasons changed. Sam and Bucky had barely noticed the appearance of pumpkin spice, apple, and cinnamon scented candles that replaced your more summer scented ones. Nor did they seem to notice the sudden appearance of garland made of faux autumn leaves that now adorned the railing of the balcony, white fairy lights strewn throughout.Â
You set about unpacking the boxes and organizing the decorations more than they already were. The witch with the cauldron that said a rhyme about the brew she was making was set to the side for the scene youâd create by the rarely used fireplace, a throwback to your childhood. You were so lost in what you were doing, you never heard the front door open or the two of them walk in.
âWhy does it look like Halloween came to town and trashed our place?â Sam asked. You jumped, almost dropping the ceramic ghost you were holding.Â
âYou scared me,â you said before continuing, âIâm starting to decorate for Halloween.â
âDoll, Halloween isnât until the 31st. Do we really need to decorate now?â Bucky asked. You glared at him.
âYes. The holiday season has officially started. Since you two are homeâŠ,â you said trailing off.
âYou want us to help, donât you?â Sam asked.
âPlease? I have so much I want to do and so little time. Besides, Wanda and Steve have started decorating their house. I saw Steve cleaning the gutters out this morning to hang up those purple and orange lights they bought last year,â you said. There was something refreshing about having a slice of normalcy in the midst of a life that was far from normal. The three of you were still relatively new to the dating thing, having opted to live together as friends for so long before one day, the feelings came out.Â
Steve had settled in with Wanda, something that had surprised you at first. With the security provided by living on the compound, Clint had brought Laura and their kids out. If Natasha lived with them, well, no one was batting an eye at that. Thor had a house in the neighborhood, one he shared with Bruce. Tony and Pepper maintained one too, even if Tony was more hands off from the team these days. The Avengers were still a family.Â
âWhat do you need us to do, doll?â Bucky asked. You smiled, and saw the look Sam gave Bucky.
âWeâre going to regret this, arenât we?â Sam asked.Â
âYou can start by grabbing the batteries I bought off the kitchen counter, please. Bucky you can start testing the lights for the bushes,â you said. Both men shared a look before going to do as you asked. Bucky set about continuing to untangle the lights for you, while Sam handed you the batteries.Â
The witch was the first thing you wanted to power up. Your mother had sent it to you a few weeks prior at your request. As soon as the batteries were in, you pressed the button, bringing her to life.Â
âHappy Halloween. Letâs see, thereâs eye of newt, liver of muskrat, venom of snake, garlic powder, delicious yes, itâs my very own chowder. Happy Halloween,â the decoration said, complete with a witchâs cackle. You laughed at the look on Sam and Buckyâs faces.
âThatâs creepy,â Bucky said.
âThatâs vintage. 1995. Been in the family almost as long as I have,â you said with a smile.Â
âWhere are we putting it?â Sam asked.
âBy the fireplace. I have a whole scene to set up there,â you explained. The three of you set about setting up the decorations. This year, you had gone out and purchased wood to make your headstones. The foam ones didnât hold up well. When your boys saw what you had stashed in the garage, they shared a look. You had drawn out where the cuts needed to go, but hadnât touched the wood.
âDoll, you werenât planning on cutting that yourself were you?â Bucky asked. You shook your head. There were very few things you agreed to being off limits. Using any kind of saw was one of them after the first and last time they had you handle cutting something. You may have been on it on the field, but when it came to the day to day, there were some things it was safer not to let you do.Â
âOf course not. If one of you could? I have the designs sketched out too on the paper I taped up. Just call me out when itâs done so I can start painting,â you said.Â
You headed back in the house, putting the window decals up before Sam came in and helped you bring the lights outside. You could hear Bucky at work on the saw as you and Sam pulled the lights over the bushes and placed âcobwebsâ over it. Sam grabbed the ladder to put the lights up on the front of the house, along with your ghostly decorations that hung down.Â
You almost forgot that Bucky was tasked with cutting the headstones until you realized it was far too quiet. You walked toward the garage to see him hard at work painting. He had already done the work of putting the poles into the decorations.
âYou like it?â he asked you as he heard you approach.
âItâs perfect,â you said, wrapping your arms around him from behind and letting your head rest against his shoulder. You jumped slightly when Sam joined in, the three of you content to enjoy the moment.Â
âI was thinking we could have a skeleton hand reaching up from one of them,â Bucky said.Â
âYeah? What other ideas do you have?â you asked him. He explained his plan, before setting to work with Sam. You took the opportunity to head back inside and continue your indoor decorating. There were plenty of things that still had to be done.Â
The sun had set before the three of you retired for the evening, opting to order out instead of cook. One of Tonyâs Iron Legion would pick up the food, something the locals outside the compound had long since grown used to. The lawn now had a dozen headstones, complete with scenes of skeletonâs attempting to escape and a scarecrow caretaker that Sam made.Â
âWell?â you asked as your boys looked around the house. You were practically bouncing on your feet, wanting to know what they thought.Â
âItâs perfect, doll,â Bucky said, placing a kiss on your forehead. Sam nodded in agreement.
âIt really is,â Sam said. The three of you settled in for dinner with the arrival of your food a short time later. You couldnât wait for what the rest of the month would bring.Â
