Propaganda
Audrey Hepburn (My Fair Lady, Sabrina, Roman Holiday)—Growing up, Audrey Hepburn desperately wanting to be a professional ballerina, but she was starved during WWII and couldn't pursue her dream due to the effects of malnourishment. After she was cast in Roman Holiday, she skyrocketed to fame, and appeared in classics like My Fair Lady and Breakfast at Tiffany's. She's gorgeous, and mixes humor and class in all of her performances. After the majority of her acting career came to close, she became a UNICEF ambassador.
Jean Seberg (Breathless, Saint Joan)— Some of us watched À bout de souffle as a lil French undergrad and had the trajectory of our lives changed by Jean Seberg. She IS French new wave!! She is the moment!! She sadly had to work with a lot of shitty directors in her career but even so, she has this magnetic energy whenever she’s on screen. In her personal life, she was also very supportive of civil rights causes, and was even targeted/harassed by the FBI for financially supporting the Black Panther Party.
This is round 4 of the tournament. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage woman.
[additional propaganda submitted under the cut.]
Jean Seberg:

anyone who plays Joan of Arc is kind of hot by default tbh
she's gorgeous, she's cool, she has the original blond pixie cut
She donated a lot of her money to civil rights organizations such as the NAACP and the black panther party as well as Native American school groups, as a result of this the fbi ran a smear campaign against her and a surveillance campaign which is thought to have led to her suicide tragically.
idk if this is propaganda but the COINTELPRO and the FBI are widely blamed for her death. If the FBI was after her for supporting the Black Panther Party you know she was good

Audrey Hepburn:

"She may be a wispy, thin little thing, but when you see that girl, you know you're really in the presence of something. In that league there's only ever been Garbo, and the other Hepburn, and maybe Bergman. It's a rare quality, but boy, do you know when you've found it." - Billy Wilder

Raised money for the resistance in nazi occupied Hungary. Became a humanitarian after retiring. Two very sexy things to do!

where to begin......... i wont her so bad. i literally dont know what to say.

My dude. The big doe eyes, the cheekbones, the voice. The flawless way she carried herself. She was never in a movie where she wasn't drop dead gorgeous. Oh, also the fact she raised funds against the Nazis doing BALLET and she won the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her humanitarian work.

"It’s as if she dropped out of the sky into the ’50s, half wood-nymph, half princess, and then disappeared in her golden coach, wearing her glass slippers and leaving no footprints." - Molly Haskell
"All I want for Christmas is to make another movie with Audrey Hepburn." - Cary Grant

I know people nowadays are probably sick of seeing her with all the beauty and fashion merch around that depicts her and/or Marilyn Monroe but she is considered a classic Hollywood beauty for a reason. Ironically in her day she was more of the alternative beauty when compared to many of her contemporaries. She always came off with such elegance and grace, and she was so charming. Apparently she was a delight to work with considering how many of her co-stars had wonderful things to say about her. Outside of her beauty and acting ability she was immensely kind. She helped raise funds for the Dutch resistance during WWII by putting on underground dance performances as well as volunteering at hospitals and other small things to help the resistance. During her Hollywood career and later years she worked with UNICEF a lot. Just an all around beautiful person both inside and out.
youtube
No one could wear clothes in this era like she could. She was every major designer's favorite star and as such her films are time capsules of high fashion at the time. But beyond that, she had such an elegance in her screen presence that belied a broad range of ability. From a naive princess, to a confused widow, to a loving and mischievous daughter, she could play it all.
Look at that woman's neck. Don't you want to bite it?

Hi, pinkie!! This may be weird but happy birthday :D wishing you all the best things and wishes 🫶🏻
(Silly Hobie wishes you happy birthday as well)

(Look at him being silly)
Like The Movies
Hobie Brown x fem! reader (college au)
Hi my love! 🤍 Thank you so much for the well wishes. It isn't weird!! 😠 Who told you that?? As promised, "loser" Hobie to celebrate. (I love my silly little guy. I'm putting him in my pocket).
I just want to say, to everyone who asked what would happen if I didn't win ( @hyperfix-wip )- I guess we'll never know 🤷♀️
word count: 1,7k+
cw: dorks, the lot of them
~
The smell of butter soaked popcorn has been stuck to Hobie’s clothes for hours now. Along with a straining headache. Rubbing his temples he tries to focus on the ugly red carpet instead of the screen at the cash register.
Ten more minutes then he was home free. Excluding the quick stop he was going to make to the video game store across the mall. The missing piece for his game cube was finally in stock.
He was debating grabbing pizza from the food court too but with his roommate gone for the weekend what was the point? Hobie really wishes Ned well but he’s disappointed that he’ll be spending his time off without his best friend.
It’s times like these that he wishes he was closer to his family. Deciding and then being accepted to attend university here in New York is a mixed blessing.
He’s learning incredible things, meeting new people, and living on his own. On the other hand, he’s still new to the US and its customs.
It’s exhausting after a while and he can’t even be comforted by anything other than the things he brought with him from Camden.
A beep from his watch alerts him that his shift is over and Hobie doesn’t waste a second in clocking out and discarding the thing he calls a uniform. He’s still polite of course. Says his goodbyes and wishes everyone a happy holiday despite not celebrating Thanksgiving himself.
He must look tired because most shoppers steer clear of him. At the most he’ll receive two or three compliments on his outfit. Or maybe they’re just preoccupied with the sales and discounts going on in various stores.
He mutters an apology as he brushes past a group to step inside the brightly colored store with posters and ads for the newest game. Hobie has learned Christmas lights in November is normal. He cringes as he hears a popular pop song play through the speakers. It’s maybe the twentieth time today he’s listened to it.
“Hobie, hey! Give me a sec.” Ganke pushes his glasses up the bridge of his nose. Gesturing to the box Hobie presumes holds his order. “I’ll ring you up as soon as I can.”
“Course, no rush.”
And Hobie means that sincerely. There’s more than four customers in line with a dozen more circling figures and t-shirts. He may be tired but he knows well enough how demanding customer service can be.
To add a little more reassurance to Ganke’s mind, Hobie points to a random section of games. “I wanted to take a look around anyway.”
Ganke nods with a grin that never seems to fall from his face.
Hobie would consider this store his second home. He is on a first name basis with Ganke and he was even invited out by the younger boy to a flea market. They both shared a love for retro and vintage. Hobie met a friend of his too, Miles. It was the most fun he’s had since his arrival in August.
A sigh leaves his lips as the section he had planned to browse is blocked by a group of teenagers and yes, he himself is a teenager but something about American air made people lose their common courtesy.
He spins, planning to give up and just wait by the counter when something smacks into his chest. Not hard but definitely strong enough that the person who walked into him is sent stumbling back.
An apology spills from his lips and he’s met with one himself. The air from his lungs leaves his chest as he comes face to face with a girl. He knows you.
He knows because he shares a music composition class with you. He remembers because he embarrassed himself in front of the class. Hobie’s only ever written baselines so orchestral music has been a struggle for him.
“Why are you sorry?” You laugh softly. Fixing the bag on your shoulder full of pins and charms. “I bumped into you.”
“Are you ok?” You ask and Hobie isn’t sure what to do next.
He’s mortified that the only interactions he’s had with you (which are far and few) are so embarrassing.
Hobie may or may not think you’re cute. It would be stupid of him not to notice you.
It’s not like he has a chance with such a pretty girl but he can at least not look like a fool in front of you every chance he gets.
“Uh yeah,” he falters, “I’m fine. Are you…ok?”
“Me?” You point to yourself in confusion.
“Yeah,” he repeats. “Did I nick you or something?”
“Oh.” You laugh again as you take in the patches and safety pins on his vest. “I think we’re good.”
When you stand on the tips of your toes Hobie understands what you mean and his ears grow hot with embarrassment.
Hobie is aware he’s tall enough to be a basketball player but compared to you he’s never realized quite how tall he is.
You smile and think about how cute his reaction is. Hobie isn’t shy, not by any means. You’ve seen him with his friends around campus. But you can understand how being out of your element can leave you walking on eggshells.
Classical music is the soul of your being. Movie scores to be more specific, not to mention game sources. You haven’t quite decided what route to take but for now you’re content with going back to the basics and writing Bach inspired pieces.
“Hey, I really liked your presentation. Did you get a good score?”
“I did, yeah.”
Hobie thinks you must be lying to avoid making him feel bad. The professor too because he earned almost full marks.
He doesn’t understand why when his piece was so…awful. Nothing like yours or Flash Thompson’s.
“That’s great! I liked the third movement. It reminded me of um…” You snapped your fingers. “Bowser’s theme. You know, from the first Mario game?”
Hobie doesn’t mean to, he really doesn’t, but he laughs.
“What? I’m serious!” You grin as you reach for your phone. Insistent to make your point and be proven right.
“You can’t be.” Hobie almost guffaws. “It was a dumpster fire!”
“Was not!” You argue. Bringing your phone up to his ear after furiously typing.
Hobie looks at you in surprise. Stuck between your outstretched hand and your determined face. After a supportive nod from you and a smile he slowly leans down to listen.
You pause on certain points of the video. Rambling on about concepts the two of you have learned but obviously you know better.
The video takes exactly three minutes and fifty three seconds but you managed to lengthen the amount of time it would normally take to finish and soon enough he realizes you’re not just cute. You’re cute and you like games.
You weren’t trying to make him feel better you were making honest and valid points.
Now he feels like an ass for laughing so he’s quick to wave his white flag in surrender.
“Alright, alright. You win love. Has anyone ever told you you’re a bold little thing?”
“I have been called that on occasion, yes.”
Hobie hums. His lips tugging into a smile. “Don’t ever change.”
Butterflies erupt in your stomach as you return his smile. “I won’t, promise.”
“What are you in here for if you don’t mind me asking? Aside from analyzing my music.”
“I don’t mind at all,” you answer. Feeling giddy. “There’s a poster I’ve been looking for and- tada.”
Hobie chuckles at the glee on your face as you hold up your prize.
“Is that right? Congratulations.”
“Thank you kind sir,” you giggle. “I was just heading over to pay when I bumped into you.”
“Guess it was a good thing I kept you occupied,” Hobie replies. “Line is gone now.”
You turn your head. Peeking over his shoulder to see the register is indeed free now.
“It appears so.” You tap his shoulder with the end of the rolled up poster. “Thank you again. You’ve done me a great honor sir.”
You relish in how much you’ve made Hobie laugh in the last few minutes you’ve talked. You’re disappointed this all has to end now.
Hobie snickers before bowing mockingly. “After you.”
You curtsey in return before walking over to Ganke. You’ve seen him a few times. Normally you come to the mall on weekends not weekdays but with the holidays coming up you had a few days off. Best to take advantage right?
Declining a bag you wait patiently for Ganke to finish the transaction but then he interrupts you from paying.
“Wait hold on, you have a birthday reward today.”
“Do I? Huh, I didn’t know the store had one.”
“Well, now your total comes down to less than ten dollars.”
“Sweet! Thank you.”
You step aside, thankful for Ganke’s chatty behavior because it give you an excuse to stay though Hobie’s own purchase. Both boys including you in their conversation about Hobie’s soon to be fully functioning game cube. Then you’re both walking out the door.
“So…” Hobie clicks his tongue. Anxious as the plastic bag he carries weighs down his hand. “Where are you off to now? Friends waiting at that nice restaurant?”
You shake your head, pointing to the direction of the movie theater. “Nope, there’s a screening for one of my favorite movies. It starts in about…ten minutes.”
Hobie’s eyebrows raise. “By yourself?”
“Mhm, was just killing some time.”
Hobie is at a loss for words. Spending your birthday alone sounds cruel. You deserve to have cake and gifts—the whole package. However it’s then that Hobie realizes he isn’t the only one who could be away from home.
“Mind if I come with you?” He blurts out.
Your eyes widen and in your stunned silence you feel the excitement build.
“Yes- I would love that!”
Gingerly clasping your hands together you happily tug him along. Explaining what movie you had bought a ticket for. Outwardly wondering if there were still seats available.
Hobie doesn’t feel dread walking back to the theater. He isn’t even upset when he smells popcorn again. With a soft smile he keeps his eyes on you. Only getting annoyed when his co-workers whistle behind his back and make exaggerated faces.

Here’s something I’ve been translating on and off for the past week or so! I was looking at old German youth magazines in order to find interesting articles about classic rock bands (specifically Pink Floyd) and came across this in the 01/1978 issue of BRAVO magazine (One of the most famous teen/young adult magazines in Germany that’s been there since 1958 and is still going strong today!) A lot of youth magazines back in the day had articles and posters about rock bands because, well, that’s the people who were celebrities at that time! This page includes both short descriptions of the band members and a short history of the band up until that point when the issue came out! Enjoy ;)

Here’s the original picture
And here is the translation! (Italized text are context comments added by me to add to the understanding of this text!)
Warning: Some of the information here is obviously incorrect!
Pink Floyd: Their profiles
Nick Mason:
Born on the 27th of January 1945 in London, plays drums, has black hair, brown eyes, is 1,72 m tall (for non metric peeps it’s approximately 5 foot 8), is married to Lindy, has two daughters, owns a vineyard and collects old cars (old timers in German means old/vintage cars)
Rick Wright:
Born on the 28th of July 1945 in London, plays the organ/keyboard, piano, cello, and Moog-synthesizer; has blonde hair, blue eyes, is 1, 74 m tall (approximately 5 foot 9), is married to Juliette, has a son named Jamie, and a daughter named Gaia, loves football (or soccer for American peeps)
Roger Waters:
Born on the 6th of September 1944 in Great Bookham near Cambridge, plays bass, Moog-synthesizer, and sings as well; has blonde hair, grey eyes, is 1,83 m tall (approximately 6 feet), is married to Caroline, and has a 15 month old son named Harry.
David Gilmour:
Born on the 6th of March 1946 in Cambridge, plays lead guitar and sings; has brown hair, blue eyes, is 1,78 m tall (approximately 5 foot 10), is married to Ginger, and has a 2 year old daughter named Alice.
The diary/summary of their career; All their albums
1965
The three architecture students Roger Waters, Rick Wright, and Nick Mason meet and get to know each other, establishing the band Sigma 6.
1966
February: Sigma 6 gets their first fee for a performance in the London Marquee Club and mostly cover popular rock and blues songs. During this time they meet art student Syd Barrett. He writes songs and joins the band as a guitarist and singer. Under his influence Sigma 6 evolve into their own music style: The group does electronic experiments and uses spotlights, reversal film, and recorded footage as part of their stage shows. Thus psychedelic music is born. Syd Barrett is as well (psychedelic), who now comes up with new names for the band almost every month — they call themselves “T-Set,“ “Abdabs” — and in this group a girl sings as well from time to time: Juliette Gale. She later marries keyboardist Rick Wright.
June: The group could pay for a band bus for approximately 200 Mark (the German currency at the time of this article), but decide to separate for the time instead. No one is interested in performing, since the boys want to enjoy the semester holidays as well as after them improve and work harder on their studies; music is fun but a real job is more important. Syd Barrett then has a new idea for a band name: The Pink Floyd Sound. He comes up with his idea through combining the names of two American blues singers: Pink Anderson and Floyd Council. The owner of an artist agency, Peter Jenner, sees a performance from The Pink Floyd Sound in the Marquee, and then from there on decides to manage the band, not knowing the band wanted to break up.
July: Peter Jenner gets the band gigs, and thus Pink Floyd stays together.
October: Pink Floyd are now the stars of the London Underground. They perform in the Roundhouse to 2000 fans, with even Paul McCartney being there to see them.
December: On the 23rd of December the UFO club opens, with Pink Floyd performing there daily henceforth.
1967
January: The English music magazine “Melody Maker” write an article about Pink Floyd, which makes record companies curious about the band. The band accepts the best offer, and as they sign the record label contract, they cash in an advance payment of 40 000 Mark.
February: The first single “Arnold Layne” gets recorded.
March: Arnold Layne goes to the English hit charts.
April: The single is on number 20 in the charts and then falls off. But this beginning success gives them the push they needed to record their first album “The Pipers at the Gates of Dawn.“ Norman “Hurricane” Smith serves as producer for this album, and began his career as a recording engineer for the Beatles. While Pink Floyd work on their album in studio 3 of Abbey Road studios, the Beatles work on their album “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” at the same time in studio 2; two decade defining groups working next door.
June: Pink Floyd join as a supporting act along with Jimi Hendrix and the Move (runner up band to Electric Light Orchestra) for an England tour, but only get to play 17 minutes.
July: The second single “See Emily Play,“ becomes part of the English hit charts, coming in at number 6, and the first album “The Pipers at the Gates of Dawn” releases.
September: See Emily Play also goes into the German hit charts and reaches number 28. Syd Barrett at this time also creates a speaker system which is still useful today, where the speaker boxes are placed all around the room.
1968
At this time, it is practically impossible for Pink Floyd to continue performing with Syd Barrett. He is more and more off in his own world and mind, often not knowing where he is. Out of necessity, the band thus searches for a second guitarist who could join the band.
February: David Gilmour joins Pink Floyd. Syd is still part of the band, but during concerts his amps are often not even turned on, so that the audience doesn’t know any better about his mistakes.
April: On the 6th of April Syd definitively leaves the band, with manager Peter Jenner going with him. Pink Floyd begin working on their second album “A Saucerful of Secrets.“
June: At a free open air concert on the 29th in the London Hyde Park the band officially announces and debuts David Gilmour as their new lead (and only) guitarist. On the same day the new album releases as well.
1969
July: The soundtrack album Pink Floyd worked on for the film “More,” releases.
October: Pink Floyd have their first concert in Germany on the 11th of October at the Pop and Blues Festival in the Essen Grugahalle venue. On this day, Deep Purple celebrate their first concert in Germany as well.
November: The double album “Ummagumma” releases and makes the group successful worldwide for the first time.
1970
March: The soundtrack album Pink Floyd worked on for the film “Zabriskie Point” releases.
June: Pink Floyd perform the title track of their upcoming new album “Atom Heart Mother” worldwide at open air festivals with recorded footage, dry ice fog, and light bombs as part of their special effects on stage.
October: The album “Atom Heart Mother” releases and leads the album charts in England and America.
1971
The album “Meddle” comes out. This year Pink Floyd is particularly busy; they go from one concert to the next and have multiple tours worldwide.
1972
The soundtrack album Pink Floyd worked on for the film “La Vallée” releases under the title “Obscured by Clouds” as their new album. The rest of the year the band spends inside the studio.
1973
March: The album “Dark Side of the Moon” releases and is on the English and American album charts for over two years, and also goes gold in Germany. It is to this day the band’s most sold album.
October: Pink Floyd perform their last German concert for a long time on the 12th of October at the Olympiahalle in Munich, and it becomes the sensation of the year. Pink Floyd also make their way into the English and German single charts again with the single “Money.”
1974
Pink Floyd are tired of success and go back to their private family lives, with rumors appearing that the group will break up. In autumn, the double album “A nice pair” comes out, which is a rerelease of their first two albums.
1975
September: The album “Wish You Were Here” releases.
1976
This year, Pink Floyd doesn’t appear publicly that much as well, except for some performances at festivals.
1977
January: In Dortmund Pink Floyd start their first German tour since 3 years ago on the 23rd. They have 2 concerts each for Dortmund, Frankfurt, and Berlin, with Munich having 3. All concerts were sold out 2 months before the tour started. Simultaneously the 11th album of the band, “Animals” releases. Even before the album released, “Animals” goes gold, with 250 000 records being preordered. This German tour is also the starting point of a months long worldwide tour — the most comprehensive one that Pink Floyd have undertaken yet.

Less Than Zero
Director Marek Kanievska Stars Andrew McCarthy, Robert Downey Jr, Jamie Gertz, James Spader USA 1988 Language English 1hr 38mins Colour
Oooh, aren’t these rich kids screwed up? Tsk, tsk
For a few minutes at the start, it’s possible to believe that this movie’s stinking reputation was undeserved, that like, say, Absolute Beginners, it’s worth a more sympathetic look now that time has passed… A college kid somewhere in America’s snowy east gets a phone call, The Bangles’s propulsive cover of Hazy Shade Of Winter accompanies him as he flies back to LA, goes to his huge midcentury family home and then to a party that has been decorated with (nothing could be more ’80s) hundreds of TVs.
If Andrew McCarthy always had a somewhat blank screen presence, that’s maybe OK for one of those observer/narrator characters. James Spader as a suave coke dealer who calls people ‘old sport’ is just about perfect. Jamie Gertz at least wears the clothes impeccably. And who could be more suited to playing a charming, indulged addict than Robert Downey Jr, a man whose career somehow survived his many substance-fuelled fuck-ups? (We’ll get back to that.)
But, alas, this movie does stink. In two different ways, one of which matters more than the other. It stinks as an adaption of Bret Easton Ellis’ novel, adding a clunky sense of morality, turning the main character, Clay, from a kid who very slowly comes to realise how much his time at a New England college has left him out of sync with his old friends to a prissy guy who arrives in judgement mode. It forces BEE’s drifty, episodic book into a simple, finger-wagging story about two boys, a girl and the dangers of DRUGS.
Just say no, kids
That it very much isn’t the book – and frankly, there was no way that anything resembling the novel could have been made by a Hollywood studio in the mid-80s* – isn’t a fatal flaw. There are unfaithful adaptations that are good films. But it’s worth asking what you would want to take from the novel: as I’ve said, it doesn’t have a story structure that lends itself to conventional filmmaking, nor are the characters carefully constructed.
What made the book such a phenomenon – and believe me, people went nuts about it (and I was one of them) – was the way the distinctive present-tense prose style immersed the reader in this world of numb, spoilt, rich brats who are sensation-seeking but not sensation-finding because nothing, it turns out, is so screwed-up it actually manages to wake them up. When I read it, aged 15, I wasn't sure whether it was any good or not but I did know that no writer – not even Raymond Chandler – had insinuated their rhythms and phrasing into my thought train so completely. Whenever I read a couple of chapters of the book, my brain would shift into continuous flat narration for the rest of the day.
One of the many excellent decisions Mary Harron made in her great adaptation of Ellis’ American Psycho is understanding that we need the writing, that without the sensibility of the prose this is a just a horrible story about a rich guy murdering people that tells us nothing. I’m not sure that having Clay narrating would fix Less Than Zero, but I do know that without it much of what makes the book work has gone.
And so what do we have in its place? In LTZ-the-movie, Clay (McCarthy) is summoned home during the Christmas holidays by Blair (Gertz), his ex-girlfriend. He’s thinking she might want to get back with him, but in fact she’s worried about Julian (Downey), Clay’s bestie but also the guy Blair left Clay for. Will Clay forgive them both? Can they help Julian, whose bottomless appetite for freebasing coke has him 50G in hock to the elegant but dangerous Rip (Spader)?
They go to lots of clubs and spend much time driving through the LA night in Clay’s vintage Chevy Corvette. There are a couple of terrible, terrible 1980s movie sex scenes. Parents just don’t understand. Clay disapproves – he would be pouting but I’m not sure McCarthy’s tiny mouth can manage a pout.
And Downey is incredibly annoying. God, is he annoying. He’s this whirlwind of puckish energy, constantly doing something to remind us he’s on screen. He’s as overactive as McCarthy is inert. Considering that to some extent, Downey was the guy he’s playing, it might be true to life. But it’s pretty near unwatchable.
Some of it looks pretty. Gertz gets some good outfits, as do McCarthy and Spader. Some of the songs on the Rick Rubin-masterminded soundtrack are great, some very much not. But the story is so clumsy, so basic and so obvious.
The director is Marek Kanievska, who I will willingly say I had never heard of. Before this, though, he had directed Another Country, a film about gay Marxists at a posh British boys school in the 1930s starring Rupert Everett and Colin Firth, and which – perhaps ironically – had its biggest impact encouraging the fashion for interwar clothes and hair styles. And that’s a pro-gay film, at least by 1980s standards, whereas LTZ-the-movie is homophobic – making Clay, who is casually bisexual in the book, aggressively straight and seeming to suggest that the sex-with-men aspect is one of the main issues why the fact that Julian is turning tricks is disturbing. I wonder if the director started this with very different intentions.
So, then, no, this is not a lost classic. Its reputation as a classic instance of Hollywood taking a book and forcing it into both an ill-fitting structure and an unnuanced moral stance is well-earned. Not even a fun, trashy watch, even.
*This film, the thoroughly sanitised version of the story, still got an 18 certificate in the UK; in the US it was an R at a time when studios certainly did not dabble in X-ratings.

January in America: how a Kaiju backlogged the Western world
18th February 2025
Written by Theodore Williams
And God said, “Let there be light!”
If you haven’t been in Metropolis over the past month, carnage has rampaged the city as an electronic Purge took place. On the 17th of January, 2025, ringing in the New Year, yet another large, Kaiju-esque beast attacked our beloved New Troy borough, resulting in a complete power-cut of the entire city.
For citizens, this meant returning to the olden days of Cable TV, or helping rebuild the many offices destroyed in the New Troy area, or even escaping Metropolis to spend time with family outside the city. I know one of our own, Clark Kent-Lane, spent the week with his mother and nephew in Smallville, Kansas. I, myself, also escaped to the beautiful Star City where I bothered my darling aunt, begging her to let me write on her gorgeous, vintage Acme typewriter. I am afraid to report I was unsuccessful.
However, I also know many of my colleagues were unable to leave the city or merely felt no need to do so and, unless they also owned a beautiful teal typewriter missing the letter ‘P’, were committed to spending the sudden holiday doing anything but writing.
Often, a Tuesday is a ‘slow news day’. However, with the influx of fighting and disasters that have happened in Metropolis, it only feels right to dedicate this sunny day summarising the past month to the City of Tomorrow.
Let us begin with January 18th, the day after the initial attack.

Major Disaster and Superman facing off in New Troy, Metropolis, Jan. 2025 (credit: Stephanie Brown)
Major Disaster appeared in Queensland Park, causing a minor Earthquake throughout the city and resulting in the death of one man, criminal psychiatrist Max Boykin. Yet in a strange turn of events he handed himself in to the beloved Superman and was admitted to Stryker’s Island Penitentiary. Disaster claims to have been robbing a bank at the time and says it “went South”. However, his friend Mighty Bruce says he was shocked “he was able to keep straight so long”, describing the less-than-ideal relationship Disaster had with his wife and child. One can only hope Disaster is telling the truth, a strange truth in itself.
Even stranger, however, was the lack of remorse Superman seemed to have for Disaster - witnesses claim he was seconds away from blasting the criminal with his Heat Vision, and others claim he was flying around “like a mad-man.” What could be bothering the Son of Metropolis so bad?
January 23rd saw ex-reformed villain Killer Frost attack New York with a mass snowstorm. Witness reports claim that Miss Frost felt unwelcome in the Justice League and as though she was still their enemy. Luckily, the Titans were able to quell the attack by Tuesday afternoon, less than 36 hours after the initial snow.
January 27th was an unusual sight in Metropolis. A large alien ship appeared in the sky, frightening onlookers from around the city. Superman and the second Superwoman entered the space ship and, less than an hour later, the ship exploded and the fighting began mid-air. Shockingly enough, the Man of Tomorrow was joined by former mass murderer and alien menace Doomsday. We at the Daily Planet don’t know what’s more interesting: Doomsday’s sudden change of heart, or the new Superwoman that is taking over our skies.

Donna Troy pictured battling Giganta in Washington D.C, Feb. 2025 (credit: James Olsen)
February 1st - the second month had officially begun and kicked off with another attack from the Wonder Girls. Donna Troy, Cassandra Sandsmark and Yara Flor joined forces to fight many iconic rogues, including: Giganta, Silver Swan, Angle Man, Doctor Psycho, and the daughter of Darkseid Miss Grail.
Amazonian-American relations are still in shatters after the West Billings Massacre in September 2023 and are declining at a steady rate. Amongst all this, Wonder Woman is still yet to be seen.
February 8th saw an attack on Stryker’s Island Penitentiary that resulted in the release of 3 well-known villains within Metropolis - Livewire, Amalgam and Shockwave. The break-out seemed to be initiated from the outside by Sprig and Aquus of the Void Three. Luckily, Power Girl was able to stop these rogues.
Unluckily, however, minutes later dinosaurs began to appear over the Brooklyn area, where Power Girl is known to reside. We wish her luck in her Jurassic park.
Luckily, Metropolis has been quiet for the past 10 days, but we can only fear for the future. Whether we’re anxious about the next Kaiju-esque attack, where Wonder Woman is, or if the Metropolis Metros are going to beat the Gotham Knights for a 6th year in a row - I think we can all agree that whatever the future has in store is nothing in comparison to the last month.

Propaganda
Jean Harlow (Red-Headed Woman, Dinner at Eight, Libeled Lady)— The original blonde bombshell. There would be no Marilyn Monroe or other funny blonde starlet without her! She was still an up and comer when cast in Platinum Blonde and at the time the film was either gonna be called The Gilded Cage or Gallagher (after the other female lead in the film) but after casting Harlow her role was expanded and the film titled after her. That's starpower!!!
Marsha Hunt (The Human Comedy, College Holiday, These Glamour Girls)—To be honest, I haven't had the chance to see a lot of her films, but she was an amazing person. A beautiful, popular actress during the 30s and 40s, Marsha was unfairly blacklisted during the Red Scare for speaking out against McCarthyism. Instead of letting that stop her, she focused her efforts on humanitarian work for causes such as world hunger, poverty, and pollution. She was also a support of same-sex marriage. Side note to any fellow fashion history nerds, she wrote a book on 30s-40s fashion. She stayed true to her beliefs through the years, and passed away at the age of 104 in 2022.
This is round 1 of the tournament. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage woman.
[additional propaganda submitted under the cut.]
Marsha Hunt:
Marsha Hunt first signed with Paramount in 1935 at the age of seventeen, kicking off a prolific career as a beloved Hollywood star and fashion model. Her distinctive profile and facial structure earned her the nickname “Curly Lips”: “Besides a rounded forehead, almost no nose bridge, and a nose that curved upwards, even my lips curled up at the corners. Ronald Coleman and his wife Benita told me they used to describe me to each other as ‘Curly Lips.’ I decided that anything that helped two people I adored take notice of me would no longer keep me awake at nights.” (The Way We Wore, p.95) Marsha appeared in about seventy films over almost eighty years, including Hollywood Boulevard, College Holiday, Easy Living, These Glamour Girls, Irene, Pride and Prejudice, Blossoms in the Dust, Thousands Cheer, The Human Comedy, and many more. She was blacklisted during the McCarthy era for publicly defending Hollywood from the accusations of the House Committee on Un-American Activities, alongside Lucille Ball, Humphrey Bogart, Deanna Durbin, Henry Fonda, Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra, and many other members of the Hollywood community.
Jean Harlow:
what is there to say just look at her. the blondest woman to ever live. a sort of prototypal marilyn monroe. has a cocktail named after her so you know she was really that beautiful. dated longie zwillman. godmother to bugsy siegel's daughter. if we really want to bring back being a mob wife we have to start here.........

She was the OG Blonde Bombshell. People don't give her credit, but she was actually a sweetheart and had a great flair for comedy. And she worked those pencil thin brows! And even though she's known for the Blonde, she is deliciously evil in Red-Headed Woman, I highly recommend!
