Toronto - gentrification of Eglinton West

under the false promise of a subway system being built (which was later revealed to be a streetcar that just runs partially underground) Eglinton Avenue has been left in disarray for nearly 14 years.

This has lead to displacement of residents, forced closure of businesses, gridlock and un-forseeable event such as the 2020 lockdowns taking a toll on businesses/significant spaces

Eglinton West is considered "prime real estate" specifically the struggling Little Jamaica stretch and many developers have had their eye on turning the entire stretch into condos. Eglinton Avenue could've been saved if the city declared it an official protected neighborhood like China Town sadly it was only declared as such after a decade of construction impacted businesses

"i happened to not find this character very interesting or likeable" doesn't automatically mean they're an objectively bland and boring character it just means you have a personal opinion

#jane is a very nuanced character who suffers from both violent childhood trauma and grooming #she's a clumsy teenager still trying to navigate her friendships and social life with her other clumsy teenager friends #and she's not great at it all the time and neither are they but she still cares about them! that's an interesting character concept!#again you don't have to find her interesting if that's not your preference. but that doesn't mean everyone feels the same way #also she is more similar to the fandom's most specialest boy (dave) than a lot of people realize but she's a Girl so she's not allowed to #be treated or viewed in the same ways as him. but i won't get into it #now. if you want to argue that her character arc got cut short and didn't really amount to much? that's a valid argument to make + i can #see how that might make people like her less. but it's less of her being a bland character and more ''uh oh the story had to end'' flavor #of weird act 6 writing that a lot of characters got shafted with #tldr you're allowed to not like jane but don't be surprised when other people do <3

Spawn’s Paradox; The Ship of Theseus

“The Ship of Theseus, also known as Theseus's Paradox, is a thought experiment and paradox about whether an object is the same object after having all of its original components replaced over time, typically one after the other” (Wikipedia).

How many times can spawn be blown up then rebuilt, before it isn’t the same spawn that it was to begin with? If this destruction continues, then inevitably every original block will eventually be destroyed and then replaced, over and over by weary hands.

The blocks that you placed together with your friends, the grand monuments that you built in exchange for still-warm hearts, the wooden path you laid plank by plank are not there anymore. It's something entirely new, and yet somehow still the same.

Zam is fighting to protect and preserve spawn, saying that he’ll keep rebuilding however many times he needs to, but is it even still “spawn”? Does spawn, as it was before the bombing, still exist? Sure, he has the Litematica schematic and he can grind out as many resources and blocks as he needs, over and over and over again, but if every original block is broken and then replaced, is it still the same?

Is there even anything worth protecting anymore?

I would love to understand why my brain and body are desperate to not shower in the safety of my own home but perked up at the offer to go shower at the gym that’s full of people I don’t know and men who could pin me and locker rooms with open doorways and less control over cleanliness than I can get in my own apartment. Something something the years of swim practice and swim meet locker room showers being safe I guess?

#I’ll allow it #I’ll even encourage it if it can help me get over 6 miles walked per day again #but can I please fucking shower? I feel so gross #I have never in my life had as hard a time showering or bathing as I have this year and it’s been killing my self esteem #I feel like everyone knows I’m gross and I KNOW I need to shower #it’s important #and I don’t want my hair greasy or anything #but I go out of my way to avoid it except for an occasional hair wash or body shower when I need to go to an event #and it’s driving me CRAZY #cleanliness is really really next to godliness in my family and also I know everyone in the world views hygiene as a moral issue #and I CAN SHOWER I did it for YEARS I even did it daily for years I used to be SO good at always always doing at least the minimum #even if sleep deprived or sick #but now it’s like I’m stuck SCREAMING and slamming my palms bloody in a containment cell somewhere in the center of my concept of a body #BEGGING to just stop being so gross and to do a daily face routine and use lotion and keep my teeth healthy and keep my hair clean #and it doesn’t even matter #I’m so ashamed all the time #but my brain doesn’t give a shit about it anymore #it views the endless shame as a lesser evil and god I hope I figure out how to get that stopped #I don’t even get triggered in the shower!!! jason todd has so many underrated canon love interests. essence, isabel, artemis, and rose are all characters i love with him. like those are good ships. why is everyone ignoring them?
