Nếu con có một tương lai “tươi sáng” theo định nghĩa của người lớn nhưng trong ký ức tuổi thơ lại thiếu vắng đi sự hiện diện của bố mẹ thì cũng chẳng còn ý nghĩa gì nữa!

Can you believe the year that just passed in BL?

When we went from seaweed snacks to masarati, from gay for him to marriage equality, from banal university to absolutely everywhere, from bubbles of acceptance to queerness, from singing to waltzing.

We've had gay arranged marriages and arranged marriage broken on account of gay, star crossed lovers get their happy ending and sweet boys discovering true love, messy boys that ache and consent at every turn, cheating messes and near-poly, reincarnated pets and hemp ropes that we build, beloved boys and needed boys and hurting boys and healing boys.

This year has been a year of BL everywhere and countries making more BL and BL growing and changing and becoming so much more and I am so, so happy to have shared this year with all of you.

Thank you for your asks and your comments and your debates and your gifs and your explanations and your agreements and your tags and your chats and every moment that reminded me that people are truly wonderful and that loving something, being passionate about something, matters no matter what that thing might be.

ok i drew the twst boys with my headcanons so i could practice drawing them BUT i dont think im EVER going to finish this (the full image is all nrc boys + staff + rollo + fellow and gidel... except i only got to malleus before i quit) so just take the only ones i am even SLIGHTLY happy with!! headcanons r under the cut!

Yeah that's how some of the twst boys act when you cook them any cultural dish for the first time, ESPECIALLY Deuce.

deuce my darling...he enjoys whatever new foods you place in front of them and is ur human garbage disposal for foods u don't like tbh. ace can make fun of him all he wants but he's just jealous he doesn't get portions of your home cooking after making a comment about how your kitchen smells weird. nước mắm (fermented fish sauce) is particularly pungent but it is a staple of viet food and if he insults it he will never taste my cooking again <333

truly deuce is the ideal bf. even if he doesn't like it or thinks the food smells unusual to him he'll try it at least once. and if he likes it? he doesn't even leave a grain of rice on the plate. not even a crumb. its an act of appreciation and its soooo endearing. just don't tell him about balut.

praising him by how well he eats...he feels so happy afterwards and he's so genuinely enthusiastic to learn more about your culture and augsihfd . . . also if u make kimchi or other labor-intensive foods he will be ur perfect helper. just tell him what to do and he can do most of the manual work of scrubbing and making sure each leaf is coated in paste. even asks to taste a bit of the paste if u offer him and gets starry eyed at how good it is.

also unfortunately. i think deuce might be weak to spice HSIDFJO. u can't feed him smthn too spicy without gradually building his spice tolerance or else he'll cry. he'll choke it down bc it tastes good and doesn't want 2 insult ur cooking. but he Will Cry .

ruggie is also someone who will be excited 2 try ur cultural foods but he will be able to handle spice and will lick the plate clean after eating <33 is also ideal bc he'll go out to the store and grab ingredients you're low on stock on <33 (however he grew up in an area where there was more ethnic diversity food-wise so he can tell u about similar dishes he's had lol)

Hi! 💙 I partly know the answer to this question regarding Sunan’s hair colour, but other than that, are there any other characters (from books, films, etc) that were references for Sunan or influenced his traits, lore and/or design?

I don't think I referenced anything for Sunan specifically. The goal was to write someone who's nice and easygoing but sort of has a wall up coz he's scared of opening himself up.

In that regard, actually, Sunan reminds me of Allen Walker from D Gray Man. They're both in their teens but forced to grow up very fast; they are the keys to the war that's going on in their respective worlds, and carry this unreasonable burden to resolve conflicts and save lives. They also share a deep fear of being rejected by their loved ones due to their past. I remember being really fascinated by Allen as a teen myself so I might have drawn inspiration from him unconsciously.

(I didn't realize this but D Gray Man also takes place in 19th century... And Allen is presumably British)

But what I can say for sure is that the fic is loosely inspired by Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger. The book's about a 16 year old boy, Holden Caulfield, who's basically stuck between childhood and adulthood. He feels rejected by the society and neglected by adults around him; he refuses to grow up and become one of them. This is the interpretation i take with not just Sunan but Sebastian and Ominis as well. Those of u who read the fic might recall the rye field and the cliff scene. That's meant to be a nod to this book (though it's pretty vague). I'm planning to use this imagery throughout the fic. We'll see how many times I can squeeze it in

Oh I also wanna mention The Sympathizer by Viet Thanh Nguyen. This book is about a double agent who's half Vietnamese, half French. Some of its key themes are, surprise surprise, dealing with one's conflicting cultural/political identities; the idea of belonging to both and neither.

Now Sunan's also mixed (Chinese Thai / British), and spent time as both a Squib and a Wizard. He has to lie and pretend a lot for his goal (protecting the Repository), which he doesn't particularly feel loyal towards. I guess being a 1.5 gen immigrant I've always been drawn to these themes, so I'm trying to explore them in my writing. And that's how Sunan became a deeply troubled teen

(In fact Natty is a perfect character for this; she's an immigrant who had to move to a different society and adapt to new ways. It'd be fun to write a one shot about her... if I ever get time 🤪)

if….if we’re doing headcanons,,,,,jude + willem domesticity?? 👉👈

Gonna hijack this ask a little bit and give you domesticness from their college days + including JB and Malcolm (partly bc I don’t really have any domestic headcanons from Jude + Willem’s middle age years, partly bc I’m an absolute fiend for the boys and their college days)

- Late night talks as they lay in their bunk beds, hands reaching out for each other in laughter, voices growing quieter when one of them falls asleep

- Jude bringing back leftover cookies and sweets from Batter that Allison gives him

- Leaving each other notes on their desks, reminders and bits of encouragement when they have exams. JB draws crude doodles on the notes.

- Sharing EVERYTHING with each other. They often don’t even have to ask to borrow something

- Being unable to remain in fights/arguments for long, by the end of the night they’re back to talking with each other

- Taking care of their friend when one of them inevitably gets sick from Pho Viet Huong

- Inside jokes! So. Many. Inside jokes. Gets to the point where their other shared friends outside of their little group begin to get annoyed

- Making abhorrent food combinations together because they’re broke. Jude’s always turns out the best, and they marvel at how he can take the most dismal, meagre ingredients and create a delicious meal.

- Evening walks around Boston. Sometimes they’re very talkative, jumping from one topic to another. Sometimes, they just enjoy the quiet and each others company.

- Constant, endless, silly teasing. Ex. Calling Willem their “diversity hire” for being the only one of them who is white.

- On that note, being incredibly defensive of each other when outsiders overstep the boundaries. No one’s allowed to talk shit about them except each other, especially Jude. So much as look at him and his crutches in a vaguely judgemental way, and your life will be ruined by dawn break

- Getting tiny potted plants to keep in their room and taking care of them. They keep little schedules for who waters and when, marvelling at the plants as they grow

- Going to plays and movies and events together, the four of them attached at the hip, moving as a monolith, smothering their laughter behind their hands as people around them glare but not caring because they’re so enamoured in the joy and pleasure of each other

- After wild nights out, taking care of each other when they’re drunk/hangover, whoever’s the most sober dragging the others down the block or onto the subway, cleaning them up and tucking them into bed, in the morning sitting by their bed as they get ill.

- Taking Jude’s crutches (with permission of course) whenever they need an excuse for something. “Oh, I missed the midterm because I got injured, can I retake it?”

- Being each others family for graduation, whooping and whistling loudly in the crowd, taking thousands of silly pictures afterwards

- Talking shit about the professors, the TAs, the staff that they hate. Snickering to each other whenever one of them walk past them in the hallways

- Reading with each other, reading to each other, leaving notes in the back pages of books, swapping novels and magazines

- Late night subway rides, trying to make themselves heard over the clunky clatter of the subway trains, swaying in their spots as they clutch the hanging straps
