"The unmarked Crown Vic rolls north on Amsterdam and now they’re not handing out turkeys, they’re about to dish out the pain."
Quote selected randomly from page 111 of the large print edition of Don Winslow's The Force.
Additional notes: "They" refers to characters Malone and Monty.
Quote was selected at random from a book chosen at random from my local library.

List 5 facts about a favorite sim of yours, and send this to 10 simblrs whose sims you adore ♥♥♥
Hello!
I'll choose the soon-to-be newest Lancaster, Ms Alexandra!
Alexandra is the only child of the Earl and Countess of Winslow. Her Father is a very liberal member of the House of Lords, which often gets him off-side with other members of the aristocracy.
Unlike other aristocratic young ladies (like Victoria) she went to Frederick University and studied anthropology and business.
She currently works at Global Woman, a Charity that works towards supporting and developing women in leadership roles.
Her hobbies include gardening, shopping, and visiting museums. Every year her goal is to read more books but never quite manages it!
She is more on the quieter side, not because she has nothing to say, but because she chooses her moment to use her voice. She is scared that this voice will be stifled by entering the Royal Family.
p.s, I'm back to working on my story! 🎉🎉🎉 which includes planning her wedding (!!) - and I'm looking forward to showing what I have picked for her wedding outfits! ❤😍

I'm going to rant about some characters now because I just got pissed about something. Victoria, I really want to pike but she almost universally comes off as a brat with to much power using her aura as a way to get out of everything, I understand there is probably some stuff for why she is like that, but it never feels like she tries to be BETTER. And Dean? Just fuck him, a empath not being able to tell someone is a psychopath means he is incompetent, and if he did and didn't report it, that just means he is moron who believed in being "polite" over genuinely being a good person. He, in my opinion, is basically as bad as Sophia in causing Taylor's trigger. He saw that she was unstable, saw that she was sadistic and got off hurting others, and didn't think for a second to go by Winslow to see if something is up, there is a difference from being polite to a normal person and making sure a LITERAL MURDERER isn't doing anything fucky. I just want to fucking shoot him in the head, or put him in a Gray Boy bubble with some suitably ironic event forever. Now this is all colored very negatively towards Dean, but he is the reason I got pissed in the first place so a majority of my rage went into him.

Born in 2049 to Melissa Kane, Vax was born in the underbelly of Night City. Vax’s life was not easy growing up, their mother leaving them when they were five. They were passed around from some people their mother knew until they were 12 and had to start fending for themselves.
At 13, Vax came out as trans. They’d meet Viktor Vektor two years later after Vax got into a fight with a drug dealer. The fight nearly costed him his eye. Vik offered them a place to stay for a few nights after discovering Vex was pregnant. And after making sure he didn’t have to kill anyone in her honor, they stayed until Vex had her baby.
Vax never left, staying with Vik and learning the life of a merc. Vik taught him to box and how to shoot a gun, how to defend himself. Vax loved the life he had despite his sister leaving after she had her baby. He was already making a quiet name for himself in the streets.
And caught the attention of Nicky Brookes.
At 17, Vax had been walking home after playing some street ball with his friends when he was knocked out and thrown into a car. Winslow Brookes was one of the kidnappers. This would be the start of his downfall into drugs and alcohol. Nicky turned out to be a massive creep and tried to kill Vax by the end of the encounter, to which Vax set the building on fire in his escape, and burning his left hand. It’s still visible to this day.
At 20, Vax left for Atlanta to try and escape Vik’s worry. The man was his father of course but he was ashamed of the life he had taken. He ODed in Atlanta and ended up coming back to Nighy City a year later. In hope of getting clean and reuniting with Vik.
The night he got back was the night he’d meet his savior, Jackie Welles. It started with a simple car job, Jackie aiming a gun at him. The two were then arrested. After being let out, Jackie introduced Vax to his mother, who saw the condition that Vax was in and offered to let him stay. She had dealt with this before, and could do it again. But Vax wasn’t going to just sit there, he helped around the house and became Jackie’s partner in crime. Quickly, he was family.
In 2077, Vax is now 28 years old and three years completely clean and sober. He has his own place and has reunited with Vik on good terms. He and Jackie are making names for themselves. They have a meeting soon with a woman named Evelyn Parker. What could go wrong?

Undersiders and wards Go Live!
SWV
An important thing to note.
As previously mentioned Shards have been turned into sponsors. Since the first scenario is before sponsor selection, this means all Parahumans have lost their powers. Anyone that would die or be injured by this is able to access that part of their power that keeps them alive
There is no known facts about where anyone is at this time in cannon. So I’m just going with any good ideas I have.
The undersiders are all in the loft
They are initially ready to kill each other
Bitch ready to get her dogs to help kill regent who provoked her.
Regent puts together that the dogs would count and taunts more:
Tattle realizes bugs or other life forms would work and they all survive after killing some spiders on the first floor
Meanwhile at Arcadia.
Amy’s having a little freak out about the whole thing, alongside Dean over what is the morrally correct thing to do as a ward.
Kill someone to survive and help save more, or sacrifice himself to save someone else.
Before much can happen a student lunges to choke another and chaos sets off.
People are dying and Amy goes to save them only to realize that 1, she doesn’t have a power, and 2, people are threatening that if she saves anyone she’ll be killed next as it would ruin their chances.
This then devolves into a fight Amy winning thanks to knowledge of human body and more than 0 combat knowledge due to her family. She doesn’t kill though until Dean who has decided he should survive to help more (which while not true, he really just doesn’t want to die) talks to her and forced her to kill the other kid as he knows Victoria would never talk to him again if he let Amy die, he Alos jsut doesn’t want her too.
This of course goes very very not well because, its Dean, and he doesn’t even have emotion powers to make him say the right thing.
Here I debate over wether it’s better for Amy to kill the kid and jsut hate Dean for it letting that fester and build even more, or to have her kill Dean and then freak out over what she did driving her further into her spiral immediately.
Up in the air until I find a reason either way.
Speedround!
Clock blocker couldn’t find it in himself to kill someone
Kid win just failed to
Vista being younger had a later start time and was in the car with her father who she killed.
Aegis wanted to sacrifice himself but ended up being the one to killl ClockBlocker once ClockBlocker asked him too
And Browbeat went into a panic attack without their power and though wasn’t killed, didn’t kill anyone else and died.
O!
Back at Winslow a lot of classrooms get turned into mini gang wars.
Aisha is in one of them and of course stabs a nazi in the chaos, and because the abb members are taking care of the rest. Luckily they win so she’s safe for now.
Villains and Protacterate next time!

A cape with superfast running, where their visibility, audibility, and tangibility increase with speed.
While unmoving, they are invisible, inaudible, and intangible. While moving very slowly, they have some presence in the world, but can still do stealth and slip through some materials. While at a fast-walking pace, they are normal. While at their top speed, they are so visible their colours are oversaturated and seem to emit blindingly bright light, so loud their footfalls can shatter glass at short range and their yell can be heard across several kilometres, and so tangible they have a minor brute rating.
This power extends to whatever they're wearing and carrying.
They don't have to be at top speed. For example, half-speed is very bright, loud, and present, but not damaging to those around them.
Sorry for taking so long to get around to this, I had ideas as soon as I saw it; but it was a busy day.
Okay so it's a Mover with a Brute sub-class (Also arguably a pseudo shaker/blaster depending on range and application) but something about this made me think of a mental trigger, the kind of stresses that would normally create a Thinker.
I'm thinking very specific mental stress that was tied to and during a physical activity.
Specifically, this is a Ward age cape; a black mid growing up in Brockton Bay and an athlete (They might even know Sophia outside of the Wards if they go to Winslow).
Brockton Bay is not safe for them and they know that, it's proven every single day and there's no black gang that's really a competitor for E88 or ABB offering protection....Not that this kid would take it. They're poor, a star athlete for whatever teams they're on and straight A student raised by parents who are controlling and demanding who routinely reinforce the idea that it will never be enough because they will have to work twice as hard as a white kid to get half as far and the sad part is that they're parents are right and they know it.
There was a chance to get out, full scholarship through a sports team and talent scouts were watching; everything was riding on it....And they just couldn't deliver, they were more nervous than they'd ever been in their life and they cracked.
Their power is a manifestation of two conflicting needs: To be seen being incredible and exceptional, but also to just get away
They joined the Wards, because of course they did. Anything else would be letting their family down; transferred to Arcadia (Pissing off Sophia and leaving her as the only Ward in Winslow again) and managed.tk find their niche within the team really well despite the limitations of their power, they're fit enough to keep moving so that they're never actually fully invisible or intangible....Also fuck it, the team they were on was the basketball team, just because Dean introducing them to Victoria would be great.
Costume wise.... Something that's a cross between classic cape and team jersey (Also, definitely hi-tops, sponsored....Maybe go full Miles Morales and give em some Jordan 1s) in colours that are deliberately muted, but also an homage to a team in Brockton Bay; the dull pallette makes the moment they kick their powers into gear all the more eye-catching.
Outside of the usual patrol duties that Wards are limited to as much as possible they're used as a rapid response heavy hitter that's sort of a mix of Triumph and Glory Girl in a weird way.....Come in screaming and glowing to disorient them and then shoulder-check the nearest brute or striker at high speed, but then they need time to build it up again, provided they're not out of breath or stunned from an impact that left them open to a counter.
Also they combo really well with Vista with a trick they call the "Infinite runway".
As for their Cape name....A glowing mover who was a Basketball team "All-Star"

Persuasion
Adaptions from 1971, 1995, 2007, 2022
The sixth of Jane Austen’s novels, first published in 1817, posthumously, has had many adaptions over the years. The ones pictures above are detailed below:
Persuasion (1971 Miniseries)

I’m not big on Persuasion but I prefer the 2007 version myself. Then 1995. I also like 2022, but it feels different.

"PERSUASION" (2022) Review
"PERSUASION" (2022) Review The years between 2009 and 2020 saw a few television and/or movie productions about various Jane Austen novels. Yet, these productions were either sequel, spoofs or other takes on her novels. Then 2020 arrived and two straight up movie adaptions appeared for Austen fans - "EMMA" and "MODERN PERSUASION". Another two passed before the streaming service Netflix released its own straight Austen adaptation, namely "PERSUASION".
Anyone familiar with Austen's works should also be family with the plot of her 1818 novel and this movie. Eight years before the story's beginning, a baronet's daughter named Anne Elliot had fallen in love with a young Royal Navy officer named Frederick Wentworth. However, her godmother Lady Russell, had convinced her to reject Frederick's marriage proposal out of family duty and his lack of social rank and fortune. During the eight years that followed, Anne had become an ignored and faded spinster. When her father, Sir Walter Elliot, finds himself in financial debt, and Anne's older sister Elizabeth move to Bath to live in style with less finances. Sir Walter also leases his estate, Kellynch, to Frederick's older sister and brother-in-law, Admiral and Mrs. Croft. Anne visits her married younger sister and brother-in-law Mary and Charles Musgrove at the estate of the latter's family, Uppercross. During her visit to the Musgroves, Anne becomes re-acquainted with Frederick after eight years and becomes convinced that he has emotionally moved on from being rejected and from her. When I saw the trailer for "PERSUASION", I never thought I would like it. What can I say? I had not been impressed by the film's trailer. It seemed to emphasize the film's worst aspects. And if I must be honest, this version of Austen's 1818 novel, like the other adaptations, had its issues. I did not care how screenwriters Ronald Bass and Alice Victoria Winslow occasionally utilized modern English in the film's dialogue. It felt out of place, and I am thankful that it did not dominate the movie. I rather enjoyed Stewart Scudamore and Agni Scott's natural portrayals of Admiral and Mrs. Croft. This is why I was very disappointed by their lack of appearances in the film's Bath sequence, especially since it was the former who had revealed an important piece of information about his brother-in-law, Frederick Wentworth. I also had a problem with the portrayal of Henrietta Musgrove in the film. I did not have a problem with the actress who portrayed her - Izuka Hoyle. I had a problem with how Bass and Winslow had re-written her character. Henrietta went from a slightly shy and reserved young woman to a more self-assured and forthright personality. Why did they change her personality? Nor did I see the need for a brief scene featuring Anne Elliot preparing to take a piss near some bush before overhearing a conversation between Louisa Musgrove and Frederick. I really did not need to see that. There were other minor aspects of "PERSUASION" that I did not like. I had no problems with Marianne Agertoft's costume designs for the film - with one exception. I did not care for some of Dakota Johson's costumes. With the exception of a few, most of them seemed bland in compared to the costumes for the other female characters. They brought back memories of Sally Hawkins' costumes in the 2007 adaptation. Considering Johnson served as the film's leading lady, I found this particularly irritating. One of her costumes looked as if it was suited for a period drama set in the early 1910s, instead of the mid-1810s. Yes, I could tell the difference. Also, Johnson's hairstyle seemed to be all over the place in some attempt to infuse a loose modern take in her hairstyle. Why? Perhaps the filmmakers wanted to single her out in compared to the other actresses due to her being the leading lady. Or perhaps Johnson did not want a strict early 19th century hairstyle. Whatever the reason, I disliked her hair. I had considered pointing out Cosmo Jarvis' day-growth beard. However, I discovered that the Royal Navy has always allowed its men to wear beards. So, Jarvis got a pass. Almost. I believe he should have worn a full beard or be clean shaven. That day-growth beard looked a bit too modern in my eyes. Many have issued other complaints about the movie. However, I found myself disagreeing with them. I had no problem with Johnson's Anne Elliot breaking the fourth wall every now and then. In fact, this narrative device had been used in the 2007 adaptation with Sally Hawkins, but with less frequency. The same could be said for using Anne as the story's narrator. Again, the 2007 adaptation used narration a lot less than this adaptation did. But I must admit that I found Anne's narration in this movie at times entertaining and rather poignant. Speaking of Anne's narration, many have complained about the character's sense of humor, pointing out that she seemed less like Austen's Anne Elliot and more like the author herself. One, I thought Johnson handled Anne Elliot’s wit with such subtlety that the character did not come off as a Jane Austen 2.0 like the Fanny Price character in 1999’s "MANSFIELD PARK". Even the Anne Elliot character in the 1971 adaptation of Austen's 1818 novel had expressed flashes of wit every now and then. Also, Anne had only expressed her wit in those moments when she broke the fourth wall. I take that back. There were a few moments when she tried to be witty with her sisters, but they tend to either ignore her, criticize her humor or take her words seriously. Although I had complained about the lack of Admiral and Mrs. Croft in the Bath sequences, two other characters from the novel were missing - Anne's old school friend, Mrs. Smith and the latter's aide, Nurse Rook. If I must be honest, I did not miss them at all. I have never liked the scenes featuring Anne with this pair. Only her defiance against accompanying her family to Viscountess Dalrymple's house in order to visit her old friend was the only aspect of Mrs. Smith I liked in Austen's story. But one would point out that Mrs. Smith had served as the catalyst for Anne's discovery about her cousin William Elliot's villainy. My response? Who cares? One of my major complaints about "Persuasion" had been the portrayal of William as a villain. I have always found it unnecessary. And apparently, the filmmakers, along with screenwriter Nick Bass and director Carrie Cracknell felt the same. That is correct, I have never cared for Austen's portrayal of William Elliot as a villain. Nor have I ever saw the need for such a portrayal for the character. I thank God the screenwriters had decided to simply portray William as a roguish man who enjoyed tripping up with his sharp wit every now and then. More importantly, William openly admitted his intent to prevent Sir Walter Elliot from ever marrying Elizabeth Elliot's companion, Mrs. Penelope Clay in order to remain the older man's heir to Kellynch and the baronetcy. One might believe this admission went against William's pursuit of Anne in the story's second half. But William has always been genuinely attracted to Anne - in the novel and in all of the adaptations. If Louisa Musgrove could be a threat to the potential Anne and Frederick reconciliation without being a villainess, surely William could serve a similar role without being the story's villain. For me, the true barriers to Anne and Frederick's romance have always been her rejection of his first marriage proposal and Frederick's long-lasting resentment of her rejection, not Louisa Musgrove or William Elliot. One scene that had never been featured in Austen's novel appeared in this movie. It featured Frederick's attempt to establish a friendship between him and Anne at Lyme. In this scene, Frederick gave a speech to Anne, expressing his "desire" to end the resentment and regret between them and become friends. I thought it was one of the most deliciously awkward moments I have witnessed in a period drama. This scene was capped by one of my favorite lines spoken by Anne: "But a heartbeat ago, there were no two souls more in rhythm than Wentworth and I. Now we're strangers. Worse than strangers. We're exes." In other words, Frederick had just friend-zoned Anne. And it was the film's only moment in which I had no problem with its use of modern dialogue. Aside from my complaints regarding Dakota Johnson's costumes, I had no problems with the film's other artistic and technical aspects. I found Marianne Agertoft's costume designs for the other characters solid and properly aligned to the movie's mid-1810s setting. But I could not think of a particular costume that blew my mind. However, I was very impressed by Joe Anderson's photography. The movie's scenes featured sharp colors and engaging vistas of locations such as Salisbury, London, Lyme Regis and Yeovil in Somerset, and Bath. And I am utterly grateful the movie did not feature dark interior shots that made it difficult for me to see a person or object. I realize I might attract a good deal of flack for this, but I found Carrie Cracknell did a better job in filming Louisa's accident at the Lyme Regis Cobb than any other adaptation of "Persuasion". I kid you not. There seemed to be something about that particular scene that led previous filmmakers to film it in the most awkward manner. As for the movie's performances, I managed to enjoy them. I have already commented on Stuart Scudamore and Agni Scott's warm portrayals of Admiral and Mrs. Croft. The movie also featured solid performances from Lydia Rose Bewley as Penelope Clay, Izuka Hoyle as Henrietta Musgrove, Jenny Rainsford as Mrs. Harville, Nia Towle as Louisa Musgrove, Gary Beadle as Mr. Musgrove, Eve Matheson as Mrs. Musgrove and Edward Bluemel's very outgoing portrayal of Captain Harville. But there were performances that I particularly enjoyed. When I first viewed "PERSUASION", I had judged Richard E. Grant's portrayal of Sir Walter Elliot as a bit over-the-top. Upon my second and third viewing, I finally appreciated how entertaining and hilarious he was as the self-involved baronet. And . . . I thought he had one of the best lines in the film. I found both Yolanda Kettle and Mia McKenna-Bruce's portrayals of Anne's sisters - Elizabeth Elliot and Mary Elliot Musgrove - to be equally entertaining and funny. Ben Bailey Smith gave a very amusing performance as Mary Musgrove's long-suffering husband, Charles Musgrove. Nia Towle's portrayal of Louisa Musgrove struck me as both charming and ebullient. Nikki Amuka-Bird gave a warm and poignant performance as Anne's godmother, Lady Russell. I might as well say it. Henry Golding's William Elliot has proven to be my favorite version of the character. I have already expressed my pleasure at the screenwriters' decision to avoid Austen's more villainous portrayal of the character. But I also enjoyed Goulding's funny, yet sly performance as Sir Walter's heir. Golding had projected so much charm into his performance that he made it easy for me to see why Anne would briefly consider a future with her cousin. Cosmo Jarvis gave an interesting performance as Captain Frederick Wentworth . . . and I mean that as a compliment. I thought he did a fine job of weaving between the charm and wit Frederick directed at the Musgrove sisters, his continuing anger at Anne's past rejection through the occasion sharp barb or caustic criticism of her character. Once Frederick's anger began to dissipate, Jarvis skillfully managed to convey Frederick's awkwardness at trying to hide his love for Anne via friendly dialogue. I was especially impressed by that moment when he tried to place Anne in a friend zone. Many critics and Austen fans have criticized Dakota Johnson's for being too modern and too witty. I have already complained about the movie's use of modern dialogue and Johnson was not the only actress or actor who used it. As for Anne's wit, I have already discussed Johnson's portrayal of Anne's sense of humor. But I also enjoyed how the actress occasionally utilized facial expressions to convey her amusement or any other emotions toward her family and other characters in the story . . . while breaking the fourth wall. I really enjoyed that. Yet, I also enjoyed Johnson's portrayal of Anne's frustrations and despair over the continuing wall between her and Frederick and the possibility of continuing loneliness in her life. I was almost inclined to regard Henry Golding's portrayal of William Elliot as my favorite performance in this film. But you know what? I have to give that honor to Dakota Johnson's performance as Anne Elliot. How can I put this in a nutshell? This new version of "PERSUASION" is not perfect. It has flaws that include some modern dialogue, the transformation of the Henrietta Musgrove character and some of the costumes worn by the leading actress. But despite these flaws, I still enjoyed watching "PERSUASION" very much. I enjoyed it as much as I had enjoyed the 1995 and 2007 adaptations. Only the 1971 miniseries is superior in my eyes. It is a pity that the movie had received so much negative reactions upon its release on Netflix. But I have no control over that situation and frankly, I do not care. I know how I feel about "PERSUASION" and I look forward to many re-watches of it for years to come, thanks to the screenwriters, director Carrie Cracknell and a wonderful cast led by Dakota Johnson and Cosmo Jarvis.

A selection of the correspondence between Robert and Alexandra over the last 18 months
AN: Trying something a bit different with the narrative style! 😬 Their relationship has been slowly growing in the background but haven't actually seen each other since the wedding.
Previous| Beginning | Next
Transcript under the cut
Dear Alexandra,
I hope you were serious about writing those letters, unfortunately it is the most reliable form of communication out here on the ship - the internet is terrible and with 300 crew members trying to contact their loved ones…well lets just say it can turn into an all out brawl sometimes. Being a prince gives me no special privileges on this ship - it's actually something I love most about serving. I'm not Prince Robert, I’m just Lieutenant Lancaster.
Re-adjusting to life on board after the wedding has been interesting - but it always is after I go home for any length of time.
The guys gave me shit for all the fancy dinners and dancing - they all watched the wedding broadcast on board apparently and said that my hat was 2 degrees off centre. Like they could tell from a live feed!
I enjoyed showing you Lancaster Palace in my last days on shore, it's a special place to me. Kissing you in the moonlight at the music pavilion will stay with me for a very long time.
Robert
Dear Robert,
I was half convinced you were joking about the letter writing, but I am glad to be proved wrong for once! Things have really quietened down here - Charles and Vic have left for their honeymoon, and the city is going back to normal after the frenzy of events.
It's surreal going back to my little job after being a part of something so massive. I think my colleagues now look at me differently. They haven’t been all jokes like yours, more like there's this invisible wall that has come down between us. I think they see me as ‘different’ now. Even though they already knew that my father is the Earl of Winslow! I guess it's a bit more real for them now.
I also enjoyed the personal tour of Lancaster Palace. It's quickly becoming special to me too.
Alexandra
Dear Alexandra,
I'm sorry to hear things are awkward at your job. Would it help finding a new place? I remember you saying that there was only so far you could go at this charity organisation and that a bigger one would give you more space to grow.
I can sympathise with the whole ‘looking at you differently’ thing. But in my experience they often settle down soon and remember that you are actually a person, and more than a picture on TV..
Robert Robert,
I did it! I got the job at the Global Women in Business Foundation! I start in two weeks and it cannot come soon enough. The people here are still not gone back to the prewedding state like you promised and I'm looking forward to escaping the staring.
I don’t know how much you see of the news out there but Vic is coming under some heavy criticism at the moment and I don’t know how she keeps that smile on her face during engagements. I went to visit her and she's pretty distraught.
No one seems to be helping her - is this normal? I don’t know what to do.
Alexandra
Alexandra,
I'm sorry to hear that Victoria is struggling, I know that it can’t be easy coming into this particular family. I'm also concerned about the fact that she doesn’t have any support. I’ve contacted Charles to see what the hell is going on. From my experience the staff around you make or break you as a royal. So tell her to get going on that part and the rest should follow.
Robert
Robert,
That was some sage advice you gave. And I don’t know what you said to Charles but all of a sudden the roadblocks seemed to clear! I don’t know if Charles was the roadblock but someone was and he may have just pushed them aside. Whatever the reason - thank you. Victoria seems more like her old self again.
Things are going well at the foundation, I've managed to even make a couple of friends! Which is helpful since Vic isn’t exactly free for after work drinks anymore.
Have they told you yet about your next leave? Maybe we could have dinner?
Love, Alex
Dear Alex,
Dinner with you sounds like the most perfect thing in the world to me right now. But it doesn’t look like I'll be back this year. My mother is, of course, devastated that I won’t be home for Christmas. It's her favourite time of year, and with Victoria being pregnant she seems to have put the ‘perfect family’ lever in overdrive.
Maybe she is over compensating for all the Christmas' that we would spend in separate parts of Sanderton House. Margaret and I would hide up in the nursery and bribe one of the maids to bring us snacks while we played board games.
So while dinner is off the cards, for a while at least, maybe I could call you? We will be in port next week and with most guys going on shore I will actually have a chance at having a semi-private phone call.
Love, Robert
Dear Robert,
I will be waiting by the phone!
Love, Alex
