This example is all original, with neck-through body, ebony fretboard, split single coil DiMarzio pickups, and weighs a scant 8.5 lbs which is pretty light for that giant hunk of pointy wood! My friend Guy at #CapsuleMusic said “you have to post this for #thumpinthursday...everybody loves these!”. Hmm, I thought. Everybody, eh? I was dubious. I know this is a pretty polarizing design from a pretty polarizing era of guitar production, but Guy was so convincing and enthusiastic about this darn thing! So this post could go either way for me: suicide or glory. It’s up to you... 😆 BC Rich made both guitar and bass versions of the Mockingbird. In 2010 Guitar World magazine called it the coolest guitar ever made. @slash has been known to play the #guitar version, which lends it considerable credibility. But being from Toronto, my #bassguitar archetype is @geddyimages and I don’t think I have seen him playing one of these. And I’m certain I didn’t see one in his collection, as shown in his #BigBeautifulBookOfBass (although he does, for example, have a Steinberger and some other modern basses!). So the jury is still out for me. I have some pretty ambivalent feelings about #guitars, and design in general, from the 80s, having lived through them...😀 So: is it suicide or glory?
