it’s kind of ironic (and annoying) when some of GA watchers call buddie shippers “fetishizers” because we ship two best friends, but they root for bucktommy
when from what i’ve seen on my screen is that their relationship is just so freaking bad - they kiss, then they go on a date where tommy shames and dumps buck instead of being more supportive and empathetic, despite knowing that this is buck’s first queer experience. he doesn’t show up in the right costume for the bachelor party, he makes a weird joke about buck’s daddy issues (some people find it an icebreaker, but to me it felt inappropriate), they have a 6-month anniversary date where tommy gives buck a present he doesn’t like because he knows almost nothing about him, as proven by the hospital scene where buck’s best friend fills in on the lore. he breaks up with him because he’s insecure. he then tries to shoot his shot once again after their drunk hookup and reveals that he sees buck’s best friend as competition and is glad he’s gone, etc
there’s literally nothing for me to root for
like, if someone does ship two guys just because they’re hot together, then it’s the bt shippers
and they think that we want buddie because we want to “turn everything sexual,” but from all the buddie analyses i read, it’s not even the right point, ‘cause what we actually want is for them to be romantic (which they already are, but an actual confirmation would be nice)
and this whole issue of pairing buck and eddie with people just because they’re hot and available?? it happens with all their past relationships, actually
with ali, natalia, ana, and marisol there was no emotional connection shown - they were just so insignificant and the show just said, “yeah, this is his romantic partner. whatever”
and with shannon, taylor, and tommy, there were too many misalignments and conflicts, so i couldn’t like them either
i won’t say anything about abby ‘cause she was always meant to leave the show and be only at the start of buck’s journey
meanwhile, if i found what buck and eddie have with someone in my real life, i’d literally marry them. and i’m not even that into marriage - but with them, i would
and i would think that maybe the writers don’t know how to write a healthy and interesting relationship between a man and a woman and that’s why the strongest bond is between two male characters (like spn and its poor treatment of the women in dean and sam’s life), but it’s not the case either?? ‘cause bathena and madney exist
hell, sometimes they even make me emotional over random couples during emergencies
so the writers really wrote themselves into a corner with how they’ve portrayed buddie
and i’d think that maybe they’re against it, but all the scripting, acting, and promoting choices starting from season 7 tell me otherwise
either the people who are directly involved in the ship (tim, oliver, ryan, maybe someone else) are that stupid that they don’t see what they’re doing, or the bt fans are stupid because instead of shipping the two characters that actually have a beautiful connection with each other, they are more invested in some random couple just because tommy is hot and very clearly gay
buck and eddie can kiss and sleep with other people all they want, but the truth is, that romantically and emotionally, no one can compare to what they have with each other
and again, this is actually a classic friends-to-lovers trope, when no matter how much you try to build a relationship with other people, you always come back to your best friend because turns out they’re actually the right person for you
there are hundreds of songs, books, and tv shows written about this, and it happens quite often in real life
and if for some stupid reason (like tim minear maybe losing his mind), buddie doesn’t become canon, then i’m still gonna think that i’m right about my interpretation of their relationship and that he is wrong, because it’s the only development that makes sense for their story and for their feelings
and i’m anti-bucktommy till the day i die ‘cause something about people hating all of buck’s previous female love interests, but suddenly loving tommy - even though he’s just as bad for buck as they were - really pisses me off as a bisexual
it just screams biphobic and misogynistic to me
and like, yes, thank you for bi-buck-canon, but tommy is just a placeholder, because the only one who makes buck actually happy and gives him what he needs is eddie
after they get together, the writers can build other close platonic male friendships for “healthy male friendship representation” - like buck and ravi, or eddie and chim, for example
but buck and eddie? these two are in love with each other and they make sense as lovers

I NEED YOUR COLOR THEORIES ON BUDDIE MATCHING AND TOMMY LOOKING OUT OF PLACE COLOR-WISE AND THE "YOU WANTED THE RED ONE?" COMMENT THAT BUCK MADE LIKE I NEED IT RIGHT NOWWW
Hello my love, welcome to the madness!
First of all, this scene is 100% about Eddie, but for a second they try to make you think that it is about bt. They start with a very odd angle of Eddie's living room, I did not recognize it at first, so it kinda leads you to believe that we are about to get some domestic bt but then the camera quite literally does a 180 and we are suddenly focused on Eddie with Eddie in the middle, they are there to help create this illusion that Eddie is okay and everything is fine, just as much as the decorations that are only placed where Chris would be able to see.
We're also back to the triangle formation they were being put constantly during Buck's coming out arc, which is interesting in many ways, because they put Eddie in the middle, and while I don't love to put a lot of weight into interviews, both Tim and Oliver have talked about the way Tommy is not gonna interfere with buddie, so I'm intrigued about the role Eddie is gonna play within whatever "finding out uncomfortable truths" means.
I don't know how to fully form my thoughts about the scene as whole, but I know yall want me to talk color, and boy, do I have shit to say.
First off, Tommy's hat. I've been going kinda crazy trying to figure out if that damn hat is green or blue, because when I swatch it from different points of the scene, I get different undertones.

Currently, I'm working under the assumption that it is supposed to be a shade like this, like a dark petrol color, that is meant to be ambiguously blue and green.
Why would it be relevant for his color to be ambiguous in this context? Well, the complementary color to red is green and the complementary color to orange is blue.
I've talked about this a lot when talking about Buck and the way they use green as his something is wrong color, but the goal with complementary colors is to create contrast, so they are making Tommy contrast Buck and Eddie's, red and orange, hats. And there's also the way the letters and the streamer Eddie is holding are red. So while Buck and Tommy are the couple and Eddie is supposed to be the one outside, visually, Buck and Eddie are presented as a unity while Tommy stands out. There's also the way Tommy's lighter shades contrast Buck's darker.
They did something similar at the bachelor party, while the green and pink aren't exactly matchy from a color theory view, their outfits are explicitly stated as a matching costume, in pastel colors, contrasting the choice to put Tommy in a dark blue color, again with Eddie in the middle.
There's something about the way that Buck asks "I'm sorry, did you want to red one?" and Tommy completely ignores it in favor of turning the cones into a flirty comment, is that on a meta-level, since the party is red, and Buck himself wears red a lot, Tommy is yet again rejecting Buck's attempt to bring him in deeper into his life, to find that space where he would fit.
Something else just because this made Alli laugh, the decorations are red, but Tommy is blowing up a green balloon, and well, green is the breakup color and that is funny on its own, but considering the way the party is red, to have him with the opposite color balloon is yet another way to show the lack of effort, to make you aware he does not fit in with the Buckley Diaz family unity, and by consequence doesn't fit in in Buck's life.
But now talking Buck and Eddie specifically. Eddie is in a warmer version of the colors Buck is wearing. They match.
Even the red and orange thing we have going with the hats. Because red and orange are analogous colors, that means they are side by side in the color wheel, and they are meant to create a harmonious look, it's about cohesion, creating visual unity, it's the same principle the show uses to make the blue and green thing work (way too long meta on the blue and green), because since you have the same base color, it's easy to make them make sense together. (Also orange is red with yellow 👀 Eddie working his way to his yellow shade queer arc, I believe in you).
About Buck and the brown. Not a very Buck color. But it is interesting that we have Buck in brown when Eddie needs support and Buck wasn't there, when Eddie needs support and Buck is trying his best to fix it, and when Eddie needs support and finally asks for it.
Buck is here to be something for Eddie to rely on, and the color brown is used for comfort, stability in a positive setting. But also, negatively, brown is used for loneliness, so they are playing with both meanings here with the way they are both in brown.
Also about Eddie and the brown. Eddie wears a lot of earth tones, but that brown is entirely way too reddish for him. And it's something because during the whole Kim fiasco and when Chris leaves, he is in maroon, they used the color as an indication something is wrong.
So while Eddie is still trying to pretend he's fine, he is still partially in that red, from the shade to everything about the decorations.
So this was yet another way to establish Buck as Eddie's support system, and that Tommy doesn't fit in.
I think this is all, if you read all this, I love you 💜

Personally, I like Tommy as a character, and I’m okay with BT for the time being, though I don’t really ship it. The biggest feature Tommy brought to the table this season was to make Buck realize he’s bi. But you could have replaced him with any random guy and I would have been just as happy about it.
My biggest issue is the toxicity from the BT stans. As in, I don’t appreciate being called a homophobe for thinking that the daddy-kink comment was out of place at the dinner date.
Look, we’re all part of the same fandom and if it makes you happy, go smash your Barbie doll’s faces together. Have fun with it. I support you 100%.
But the fact of the matter is that up until now, most of the things relating to Tommy come from head canons and Lou’s cameos. There isn’t much in the source material to go by. Mostly because he didn’t get a lot of screentime, and the writing of the scenes he’s been in, has been questionable. It’s not a very realistic show so why couldn’t they dress Tommy up for the bachelor party? It would have meant the world to Buck. (Oh, but guess who suggested matching outfits because he cares a whole lot about him?)
Yet, people are out here celebrating these two like it’s the most romantic thing since sliced bread. It’s jarring to see, how many people - especially former Buddie stans - jumped ships at the first opportunity they got. I don’t know if it’s a thing of instant gratification of having Buck in a queer relationship canonically or something else, but I don’t like it. The whole thing makes me worry, the show runners will change course to cater to the BT supporters and push for BT endgame. That would be the least satisfying ending to both Buck’s and Eddie’s story.
I will be honest with you, I think most of my dislike of Tommy comes from the way I am being called names because of him all season, it kinda kills a character's chances when the following of them gets so aggressive, he aggravates me more because of the way fandom treats him than because of anything he did this season because he was barely there this season beyond showing Buck he's bi, like you said. The fandom created this version of him and his relationship with Buck that's not backed by canon, because his scenes lack depth and the writers are not helping him at all and the way people flipped is actually disconcerting. Especially with how willing they are to attack everyone who doesn't agree they are the best thing to ever grace their television. But honestly, considering the way that buddie was still very much present and very much displaying the partnership and love they always had, I still think Tommy is a stepping stone that they are dragging out because it gave them better publicity that they were expecting. Buddie was the only thing that was handled carefully in both Buck and Eddie's storylines the whole season, they know the potential they have there, so I will keep the hope that they'll let this story unfold in a satisfying way. And yeah, it would be extremely unsatisfying to see Buck end up with Tommy with the way Buck was constructed and I like to believe they were way too careful with the construction of Buck in the love interest archetype to fumble the pass in the 2 yard line (I know that's not a saying but my brain is in football mode for some reason bear with me) and not give Buck the conclusion of that when they have been building Eddie in the way to fight that archetype by giving Buck someone who just loves him. And because no one they introduce for Eddie is gonna feel as satisfying as Buck with the way they kept playing up the way Buck is Eddie's life partner. And Buck is quite literally the only thing the show is allowing Eddie to keep. It would be unsatisfying to watch them end up with other people and that was very clearly exemplified by the season 6 finale and the way their ending were very 😬😬 yk? I have faith we will get there.
#my biggest fear is the show smashing them together in the last 10 minutes of the last episode#but i think if it all failed they would be smashed together in the last 10 minutes of the last episode#just so they can say they did it#but yeah#i have faith#queer eddie is coming and things will evolve#hopefully lol#911#911 spoilers#i really need a tag for asks#anon 😌#anti bucktommy
