Been four years, time for this again.

With the trajectory these redraws are going, Merlin and Gwaine are going to end up just,,, making out. Full on sloppy style right in front of Arthur.

Everything about Style is just driving me feral with want to have THK right now, immediately.

The way he's all big, bold gestures and confident swagger; the way his introduction includes a literal arms-wide-open welcome. The overalls unbuttoned until nearly the middle of his chest and how he's the only one in the main cast to be (literally) this uncovered (everyone else has 2-3 layers on).

I wonder if this hints to how vulnerable his character is, narratively speaking: how he potentially is the one that starts out with the least information (apparently Kant doesn't tell him who Fadel and Bison are when he makes that deal with Style?); how he may be the least physically familiar with violence because he's just a mechanic (vs Kant's background with crime/the police. Also the way in the trailer Style is constantly in shock when Fadel does something violent around him); how he chooses with his heart even after he finds out the full truth about Fadel ("You know I know everything").

When he describes his life, it's so... innocent? We get a snapshot of what he thinks his life is about and it's: fixing cars, collecting vintage cars, bowling and hanging out with his best friend. Every other character's answers are layers of subterfuge and double meanings but Style's answers create such a contrast by being so unfiltered. This is a character that (at least at this point) is guileless and without agenda.

I'm so excited to see Style pursing Fadel. I'm so excited to see Fadel try to remain stoic and unmoved in the face of Style's unabashed interest and enthusiastic flirting. I'm excited to discover why Style goes from attraction to being willing to risk it all for Fadel.

But also -- in a very different way than what Kant will doubtless be to Bison -- I'm excited to see how Style will become an escape for Fadel. Fadel, who just wants to sleep for 25 hours (he's so exhausted) and live a normal life, maybe open a restaurant that isn't just a front and a cover for the illicit job he maybe no longer wants, who enjoys solitude but wants to find someone to spend it with (he sounds so desperately lonely, my heart breaks for him).

Someone uncomplicated, who lives life fully, who isn't afraid to go for what he wants and who wears his heart on his sleeve.

In less than 5 minutes, this interview shows us the ways they could fit together like missing puzzle pieces, and I am so, so excited to see it fall apart and come together.

I started listening to Worlds Beyond Number and it's so good. I listened to the preludes and I'm about halfway through episode 1 (and trying to figure out the best point to subscribe and listen to the Children's Adventure) and it's so different and immersive. Absolutely perfect cast and I knew it was going to be something special when I saw everyone on here losing it over the sound design and THEY WERE RIGHT.

Also just works as a very large reminder that I love Aabria Iyengar.

a section of fringe from my new weaving project. it took so fucking long to tie those 3 different colored bow ties on each strand of black yarn (which i did so the bright colored strands wouldn't get overwhelmed). it was tedious but it's finally done and i love it

shout out to one of the dice sellers at the con who was chatting with me about the metal dice I was looking at, paused for a second and gave me a strange look before saying 'do you like vampires by chance?'

to which i responded with 'it depends' and he was like 'I'll be right back I think I have a dice set for you'

and he came running back with this heavy dark metal set that had blood droplets along the spikes .... and was exactly the aesthetic i was looking for.

he said they didn't have that set out on display because they had so few of it and they were only showing them to people with a certain vibe LMAO which idk if that was a read or a compliment but I instantly bought them

Halfway through Summer and I'm only now realizing that this is the first Summer in a few years that I haven't had seasonal depression. I've actually been pretty good? Maybe it's because I'm too distracted thinking about my Belgium trip in September to be sad.

Anyway it is lovely that it's also 20 years since Summer 2004 which is the summer from my childhood that I remember the best and have the fondest memories of. At least 5-year-old me and 25-year-old me were both happy at this exact time of year, 20 years apart. It's like we're saying hello to each other across time.

For fellow flimsy seat-of-the-pants artists and writers, I feel like my best advice to get shit done is just this: know what your next step is. If that changes your broad-strokes goal/thumbnail for the piece because you come up with a great new idea for your next step, great! No stress! The broad strokes thumbnail will adapt, you can always dial anything back or paint it over, but always know what you're planning on working on in the immediate future. What you'd like to do.

It makes you feel accomplished when you get it done. It gives you direction while you're working. It helps you tune in to what excites you about your project. Is it going to help you grow to tackle something you don't usually draw? Is it something easy that you've done a million times before, but maybe can try something new with this time? There's always something that's going to reward you in the process.

And if you catch yourself just menially poking and prodding at a WIP without much direction, or scrolling mindlessly through references, gather everything you've got done, your notes or whatever, save it in a decently organized setup, then take a break from it. Do something else.

Either you'll come up with something to be excited about and your next step with it while you're away, or you'll come back with fresh eyes and figure out what needs to get done. Either way, you win.
