30 Days of Autism Acceptance 2023
April 5
Did/do you have accommodations at school/IEP? If not, do you think it would help/have helped you?
I didn't have any autism specific accomodations since I wasn't diagnosed when I was in school but in my early years of elementary school I had a little bit of accommodations for my skin condition. When my skin was very bad I didn't have to participate in P.E. or go outside between classes, because sweating was really painful for me. That indirectly helped some of my sensory issues on hot days, such as sunlight. It also gave me more moments to spend alone, which spared some of my social energy sometimes. My skin got better towards the end of elementary school though, so I didn't have any accomodations beyond classes 1-3.
I definitely would have benefited from it if my other sensitivities had been recognised as something that isn't going to go away. Having to try to get used to things you will never get used to is just traumatizing. Teachers saw me as too sensitive, so each time I failed to not cry when I had to do something that was too much for me, they just had all the more reason to make me do it more often. Of course I would then try to suffer in silence and not draw any attention to myself and eventually just started to chronically disconnect from my senses.
One specific thing I definitely would have needed was more time to eat since I was a slow eater because of sensory issues and I just couldn't eat faster. We sometimes had only 15 minute lunch breaks and I was always late if that was the case, which was stressful because I was just told over and over it was something I had to learn or I would get detention. My solution: eat less, be hungry, and don't let anyone notice.
I also have joint instability due to hypermobility which is probably not unrelated to autism, and I would sprain my ankle almost every day in P.E. but it took years for anyone to take seriously because I was just labelled sensitive and given crappy grades in P.E. for lack of participation, because the teacher believed I was lying about being hurt for attention or laziness. Eventually some doctor or physiotherapist did take it seriously and gave me ankle support, which changed everything for me.
When it comes to the social environment it's hard for me to say exactly what kind of help I would have needed because I think all the kids just would have needed more teachers who had a clue. Bullying was still widely believed to be the fault of the person who was being bullied, and we always had teachers who didn't want to have anything to do with conflicts between students. Most kids were smart enough to be shitty to each other in ways that were hard to detect, anyway.
With the actual school work, I managed on my own. The only subjects I barely passed were foreign languages and math. I eventually became fluent in English in high school (not a native English speaker) because I started to read manga online, and eventually books that weren't translated, so I guess I wouldn't have been so crappy at it at school if an interest based/use based approach to studying had been possible, but, I did manage, and my other difficulties were much more severe.

Yay another ask game! I will gladly take this opportunity to talk about myself. Since I don't actually have one single post describing me pinned.
1: hmm favorite color, it's typically some form of rose gold or straight up shades of pink
2: my best feature is definitely my sence of style. I'd say it's quite nice and it's easy to move around in
3: uh, I have a mole under my right eye. No ones pointed it out yet but I'm a bit self conscious about it.
4: I can shoot a gun, and I think I have quite the aim...When I'm paying attention and focused.
5:I like to listen or play music in my free time. Sometimes I'll read a book or two, but I tend to read books like "The Oath" by Frank Parreti. Probably butchered that. But he's a Christian author with creepy books so it's not normally something I bring up in conversation
6: I can't code. I can type, can't code. I once had to make a website for a school project and I had to ask Levi on how to use the dang template.
7: My best friend has to be Levi or Mammon, although my half sister Maisy is quite fun to hang out with.
8: not really although if I have to pick someone me and my Younger yet taller brother Mase are having a prank war and very different ideas on living in hell.
9: Something I look back on is the high pitched screaming when I got back to my house after my first year in Devidom. Mase way screaming Maisy was happy and my Parents were quite annoyed
10: The beach definitely. Warm sand, cool waves, the sun or moon shining in the sky, and the memories I have with my family. That's how Maisy got her name, I had found a pearl in the sand while my step mother was pregnant.
11: beep beep I dress like a sheep 🐑
12: eh.... Type? Uh I guess someone who I consider my best friend. Someone I could laugh and cry with. I don't have much to go off of though. I don't actually have much experience dating despite living with guys my entire life. My brother my dad and now seven demons.
13: I'm right handed but I can use my left hand to eat and wright. Granted not very well but I can do it. And yes I can flip a pancake withough dropping it.
14: Black cats seem to be good luck in Devidom so I've been attempting to get one for both myself and so Satan can stop asking. Praying to God he doesn't steal my cat. Also I have this beaded bracelet me and Maisy made so that's my lucky item at the moment.
15: Aries, a sheep as it should be. Now the test thing, I think it was E.S.T.P, Extrovert, Sensing, Thinking, and Perseving. It's weird I know
16: it's a uh organized mess, my clothes are in my closet but not all are hanging up, and my stuff is generally originized, but in small messes in each space
17: I have no self preservation, like non. I first saw Henry 1.0 and though "Oh my gosh it's a drake! HOW DO I BEFRIEND IT!?"... I may have a death wish somewhere in my dumb little brain.
18: I am a D- or an A, there is no in between. It depends on the day and my mental state cause I have pulled the dang fire alarm just to get out of detention for failing. I won't lie though if you have some good music and a coffee the homework is quite enjoyable.
19: way to trusting but I'm way to extroverted so it's a bit overwhelming for some people when we first met.
20: I have been called an evil sheep before... Dose that count? I am a very menesing ball of fluff and dark humor
21: injustice, lies, eating my food and waking up. You don't even have to be the one to wake me up just let me shower first and for the love of Jesus. Knock... I'm looking at you Mammon.
22: huh? I am real... I'm good friends with the electric dragon character that wonders around though... Dose that count?
(Jo is a different OC I use to interact with others in my make believe world just go with it)
23: I want to make outfits and fantasy clothing. Cosplay, Weddings, Prom, The Renaissance Festival, school, each one has a very unique vibe and needs apropeet attire and I want to supply it world wide.
24: I'm a big fan of chocolate, and bacon. Least favorite, raw veggies... Yes I know that makes me a meat eating sheep but I don't care raw veggies are awful and are only good in soup!
25: Anime Sheep go BRRRRRRRR!

Requests: Analogince where they’re human and also single dads? And they all meet because their kids fought and got called to the principals office
Virgil's POV
Upsides to being a single father to a child with ADHD: you got to raise a beautiful, special boy with a sharp mind. You got to teach him all the coping mechanisms you'd painstakingly learned over the years to cope with his condition and watch as he lit up over the things that brought him joy. You got to watch as he zipped from topic to topic, brighter than the sun, mind racing at a million miles an hour. You got to be the first person to hear about his beautifully creative ideas. You got to have a reason for living, all yours and wonderful, that you didn't have to share with anyone else.
Downsides to being a single father to a child with ADHD: you had no one else to pass the buck to when he got in trouble at school.
"It'll be fine," I chanted to myself for the billionth time as I turned off the ignition and unbuckled myself, gripping the steering wheel and forcing deep, measured breaths. "It'll be fine. He probably won't get expelled for this. This is his first fight and you don't even know why he got into a fight. You didn't raise a bully, so he was probably defending himself or another kid." Terror clasped me around the throat and squeezed. "But what if you did raise a bully and you didn't realize it, and now you've sentenced your son to a life of crime trying to make up for the hole in his heart where his father should have loved him oh God I broke my son!"
Immediately, my therapist's voice spoke up in my mind. You're catastrophizing again, he said in that obnoxiously aware, gentle way of his. Calm down. Take it one step at a time.
I closed my eyes and breathed deeply, focusing on the feeling of my stomach and then my chest expanding with air. I let it out through pursed lips, a quiet whistle in the exhale.
I'd played through scenarios like this a million times in my mind. The second Cassie told me, five months pregnant with tears streaming down her cheeks, that she didn't want the baby, I'd prepared myself for any possibility. I'd created contingency plans and contingency plans for my contingency plans, because I knew how much harsher the world would be on him. With a grandparent, his biological mother, and me all with ADHD, there hadn't been any doubt Drew would get it, too, and I'd prepared for that. I'd prepared for the possibility that poor grades and emotional dysregulation would put him on the back foot and even get him expelled. I'd taught him all the coping mechanisms I could. I'd tried to show him as much love and patience as I could muster, and I'd show him the same now. We'd get through this. We would make it through this.
I nodded, resolute, even as doubt and worry niggled at the back of my mind. I'd raised Drew alone, without any support from my parents or Cassie, working a call center job that barely paid enough to live off of. I'd demanded a child psychiatrist the second Drew started displaying symptoms and beat the system for the help he deserved. I'd beat the system for the help I deserved. I was a badass. I was a badass.
I got out of the car.
The two people at the front desk--a woman with strawberry blonde hair and a baby-faced guy--looked over, presumably torn from their conversation, when I walked through the door. The woman swiveled her chair to face me with a friendly smile. "Hello there," she said. "How may I help you?"
I forced myself to look her in the eyes and strained through a smile. If you act like a weirdo, it'll just make things worse for Drew. "Hey," I said. "I'm, uh...Drew Griffith's father. You called me and--"
"Oh!" She gestured to the side, at a door that read: PRINCIPAL MOROZOV. "He's in there."
I looked over and gulped, staring in fear at the door. "Say, uh..." I smiled at the woman as politely as I could. "You wouldn't happen to know the correct social etiquette for talking to the principal after your son gets into a fight at school, would you?"
She gave me a funny look. "Huh?"
"Never mind." I hung my head in defeat and commenced the walk of dread to the front door of the office. The wall facing me was all glass, which meant I could see inside. Two adults, one natural-haired in a polo shirt with his arm around one of the kids in the chair beside him and the other behind a desk, looking stern. I couldn't see the other two kids or any other adults.
And then Principal Morozov spotted me through the glass and shit, I was out of time.
I took a deep breath and opened the door. "Sorry it took me so long," I said, hoping that was the right thing to say. "It was hard getting off work."
"It's all right," Principal Morozov said. "We haven't even reached Mr. Accardo yet."
"Hey, Dad," came the halfhearted voice of Drew, hidden behind a chair too big for him, especially when he slumped in it like that.
I peered over the top and smiled at him softly. "What the heck, kid?" I asked.
"He called Patton a freak." Drew pointed at the kid in the middle, with a busted nose and--oh God.
He had scattered burn marks across the right side of his face, with two differently-colored eyes and a scowl.
"So of course you had to beat me up," the kid sneers. "Because that's a perfectly rational, healthy thing to do."
The third kid--Patton, I presumed--bounced in his seat, humming in distress. His father, a man wearing glasses and a polo shirt with a tie, rubbed his back.
"I don't see why my son has to be here," the other father said, looking at Principal Morozov. "He didn't do anything."
“Patton sits alone at lunch time and doesn’t have any friends,” the principal said. “We think if he tried to get along with his peers better, he’d have a happier time here.”
“Or, you know, you could make an effort to teach your students not to bully kids who are different from them,” I grumbled.
“What was that, Mr. Griffiths?”
I hesitated, glancing up at Principal Morozov, then back at Drew. On one hand, I wanted to lead by example: teach Drew that it was okay to stand up to authority for what he believed. On the other, sometimes, you had to pay lip-service to authority just to stay out of trouble. It was a lesson no child had the mental capacities to understand, but I supposed I’d have to do my best to teach him, because if I gave Principal Morozov cheek, he might expel Drew.
“Nothing, sir,” I said, feeling like a child cowering beneath the glare of my teachers again. I prepared to search for the bullshit in the story I was about to get fed and asked, “What happens now?”
"I'd prefer to wait for Mr. Accardo," the principal said.
"Roman teaches at a high school," the bully grumbled, slouched over with a glare fixated on the desk. "He's probably in the middle of class."
"Then you're going to have to stay after school to address this," Principal Morozov told him sternly.
"Whatever."
I had a very bad feeling about that kid. The scars on his face told a frightening story. He could just as easily be bullied for those as Drew got bullied for his ADHD and Patton for being a loner, which probably meant he turned that abuse outward and attacked others for their perceived differences in a never-ending cycle of abuse.
What? I could be bad at people and have a special interest in human psychology. Those two things were not mutually exclusive.
Suddenly, the door banged open. I jumped out of my skin, clamping a hand over my chest and struggling to breathe levelly, eyes crushed shut and body frozen. Then I heard the babbling.
"I'm sorry!" The principal's door opened. "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry. The kids were in the middle of rehearsal and--Janus, what happened? I'm so sorry, Mr. Morozov." A frazzled man with warm skin rushed inside and sat down next to the bully--Janus--hastily hugging him and turning his attention to the principal.
I frowned at the scene. I withheld judgment and looked at Principal Morozov as he said, "All right. Now that you're all here, there are going to be some serious consequences to what happened today."
********
"I can't believe you let him give me detention!" Drew whined. "Janus deserved to get punched!"
"And you deserve to die abandoned and unloved in a ditch, steeping in your own feces," Janus snapped.
"Janus," his father, Roman, said firmly, kneeling down and taking him by the shoulders. Janus tried to turn away from him, but Roman lightly shook him and made him meet his eyes. He softened. "I know how much you're hurting, but a hero never redirects his pain onto others. There are other ways."
"What if I don't want to be a hero?" Janus snapped. "What if I want to be the bad guy?"
"I don't believe that," Roman said gently, adjusting his bangs. "I don't think you do, either."
Janus turned from him sharply, crossing his arms and glaring at the asphalt. He sniffled.
Drew glanced up at me in confusion and I rubbed his back. "Sometimes," I said gently, "when people are hurting, they deal with that by hurting other people."
"That's stupid," Drew said with the blunt confidence of a ten-year-old.
"Maybe a little," I agreed, "but humans aren't always logical." Drew wrinkled his nose. "I know. It's so annoying, but it's true. You're not always logical, either. Remember when you burst out crying because your pencil broke?"
"Dad!" Drew turned bright red.
Roman chuckled. "So." He stood up and crossed his arms. "You're the little rascal who dared challenge Janus to a duel for--Patton, right?" He looked at Mr. Davis--or Logan, as he'd introduced himself--who nodded. "You're the rascal who challenged Janus to a duel for Patton's honor," Roman finished.
"He was being an asshole," Drew protested.
"I'd say it's not my fault he uses that language," I said through a wince, "but it's definitely my fault he uses that language."
"I'm the same way with Janus, don't worry." Roman chuckled--a low, rumbly sound. He turned back to Drew. "You're got a paladin's heart and a temper. I was a lot like you when I was a kid."
Drew snorted. "You think you're cute, don't you?"
"He's always like this," Janus said, shoving in front of Roman. "He thinks it's so inspiring to talk about heroes all the time, like fairy tales are the best thing ever."
"That's gotta be annoying," Drew said, wrinkling his nose.
"It is." Janus stopped and scowled. "Don't relate to me!"
"Ew! You're a jerk! Get away from me!"
I exchanged a fond, exasperated look with Roman, who chuckled and squeezed Janus' shoulder. "Hey," he said, "maybe, if you apologized, you could have a friend."
"I don't want to apologize."
"So you'd rather another kid think you're a horrible person!"
Janus hesitated a moment before straightened his back. "Yes."
"I don't believe that."
I glanced over at Logan and saw that he was busy talking to Patton, kneeling on the ground and smoothing his hands over his shoulders in measured strokes. It seemed to soothe Patton. I looked at Drew.
"You know how it sometimes hurts you when you think about your Aunt Cassie?" I said softly, pulling him into my side as the shadow washed over his face.
"He called Patton a freak, Dad," Drew argued. "He's not even really my friend, but he's not a freak. He's just...different. Like me."
"I know, kiddo," I said, squeezing him against my side. "You don't have to give him a chance. He hasn't asked forgiveness, and you wouldn't owe him one even if you did. I just know you don't like to see people struggling alone."
Drew hesitated.
I looked over at Logan. "How's Patton?"
Logan glanced back at me, then looked at Patton. "Do you want to answer?"
Patton hesitated.
"It's okay," I said, not looking at his face. Patton hadn't made eye contact with a single person, including his father, since I'd met him. He clearly had more trouble with it than I did, and I wasn't always a huge fan. "I'm autistic, too."
Patton immediately perked up. "Really?"
"Yeah." I smiled, looking over the top of his head. I looked at Drew. "Can I tell him about you?"
"I'm ADHD," Drew told him, turning to him. "I got diagnosed last year."
"Oh cool!" Patton flapped his hands at his sides and bounced eagerly. "I don't, I don't think, because I'm actually pretty good at focusing most of the time and I have a really good memory, but Dad says autism and ADHD are really close together. It's really nice to meet someone else! I don't have many friends."
"Well, I guess you have me," Drew said. "I didn't get in trouble defending you for nothing."
Patton squealed and continued stimming enthusiastically. Drew offered a hug, which Patton considered for a long moment before accepting.
Logan smiled softly at the exchange and looked over to me. "You've raised a very kind son."
"More than half of it is all him," I said. "I do the best I can, but...I'm just one person. He's probably gonna hate me once he's a teenager."
"Nuh-uh!" Drew objected, charging over to embrace me around the middle. I smiled and hugged him close, squeezing him as tight as was safe. He grunted.
I caught Janus staring at us. I couldn't read his expression. He was glaring, but I had a feeling it wasn't anger. But clearly, Roman did understand it, because he knelt down and hugged him close, even when he tried to push him away. He just held fast. I thought for sure Janus would react badly--he hadn't wanted to be held, what was wrong with Roman?--but then he slowly relaxed and leaned against him. I still couldn't read him very well, but that...didn't look particularly resigned.
"You know," Roman said, pulling back after a long while, "I bet Drew and Patton would be willing to forgive you if you really, really earnestly apologized."
Janus shoved away from him, crossing his arms and glaring at the ground. "I don't want to apologize."
Roman sighed heavily, and Drew whirled on him. "You're such a freaking jerk!" he screamed. "What's wrong with you? Why do you have to be a jerk to everyone? I tried to be your friend and you just spit on me!"
"I don't want your pity!"
"It wasn't pity!"
"It's always pity!" Janus screeched. "You think I don't know what these scars make me? You think I don't know I'm a freak? If the fire didn't teach me that, then my parents sure did! I'm nothing! The only reason anyone would be nice to me is pity and I don't want anyone's pity! I just want to be left alone!"
Janus turned and ran. Roman chased after him frantically, never sparing Logan or I a glance.
Drew and Patton stood stunned. Drew looked at Patton, who stared at his forehead. "Well..." he said. "What the heck am I supposed to do now?"
Patton ran in the direction of Janus.
At that point, about the only thing for Drew and I to do was chase after his new friend, hot on the heels of his father.
We found Patton with his backpack unzipped, standing beside Janus' car door, already buckled in with Roman partway into the driver's seat, holding out a picture of a flower.
"It's ivy," Patton said. "It means friendship."
Janus stared at him through the window, unmoving. Patton, to my shock, held his gaze for one, two moments and then averted his eyes. Logan hurried over to hold him, clearly expecting Janus to reject him again.
Janus opened the car door. "Why would you want to be my friend?"
"He didn't say he wanted to be your friend," Drew sneered. "He just said it meant friendship, dummy."
"Drew," I chided softly, and he recoiled into my side.
"Because it's nice to know I'm not the only one who can't make any friends," Patton said. "I like having other friends who are special."
"I'm not special," Janus snapped.
"Dad says that being different is always special, because different people have discovered some of the coolest, prettiest things ever."
"It's true," Logan said. "Albert Einstein, Hans Christian Anderson, and Michelangelo. were all autistic."
"See?" Patton bounced and beamed at Janus. "So maybe we can all be different and special together and do really cool things one day! Like the three Musketeers."
Janus considered strongly. "I'm Athos."
"You can be whoever you want to be!" Patton said earnestly. "Then we can all have lots of musketcheer."
Drew, Roman and I choked on a laugh. Logan shook his head fondly. "He watches one sitcom that likes puns and he suddenly won't stop," he said.
Even Janus cracked a small smile. He accepted the paper. "Fine," he said. "We can have musketcheer."
Drew pouted. "Does this mean I'm your friend now?"
"Yes," Patton said firmly, looking at him.
Drew jumped, looking fearfully at Patton, who somehow managed to look intimidating while also avoiding eye contact. He looked up at me. "What have I done?" he asked.
"Made friends." I rubbed his back. I looked around. "We should probably get all these guys home. They've had a long day, and school will be letting out soon."
"I guess now that all our kids are friends, I'll be seeing more of you," Roman said to both Logan and me.
Logan hummed. "I presume so. Patton does not own a phone of his own. I can give you my number if your children wish to contact him?"
"I hate to say it, but you should probably get him his own phone," I said. "It's dangerous not to have one. If I ever lost sight of Drew...I'd rather he have a phone."
Logan considered this. "I suppose you have a point. Nevertheless, for the moment, you'll have to go through me to reach Patton."
"Don't have to ask me twice. Here." Roman accepted Logan's phone and typed in Janus' number, then passing it to Drew, who stared at it for a moment.
I recited his number to him and he punched it in. "Don't worry, kid," I said. "One day, you're going to have to tell so many doctors your number that it's going to be emblazoned on your brain."
After all numbers had been exchanged, I shook Logan's and Roman's hands goodbye and let Patton and Drew embrace again. Janus stayed stubbornly in his seat, refusing any sort of affection, which kind of concerned me, but then Roman whispered, "This is the most receptive he's been since I started fostering him."
I nodded and smiled, leading Drew back toward the car. He looked at me. "I guess I have friends now."
I glanced back toward Roman's car as it drove away and caught Logan's eye as he loaded into his own. He smiled at me.
"Yeah," I said. "I think I might have, too."

God you hated men.
Your ex decided to cheat on you with the school slut. You broke up with him as soon as you found out and he had the audacity to act all bent out of shape about it. What the fuck did he expect?
You’re not even entirely sure why he slept with someone else. You guys had plenty of sex. Not good sex, but still.
The sad thing was is you’re only 18 but you were considering swearing off men.
“Pssst. Come on baby, talk to me.” Your ex was currently trying to get your attention in class. You were doing your best to ignore him and just copy the notes from the board.
“Shut up, Justin. I don’t want to hear it.” You whispered back while glancing at the teacher. You really didn’t want to get in trouble.
“But I want you back. That girl didn’t mean anything.”
You decided to not even dignify that with a response and continue to copy the board.
“Please Y/N. I just need one more chance, you’ll see. I’ve changed!”
“Shhh.” You hear from the front of the class. It came from the Teacher’s Assistant, Steve.
You glare back at Justin.
The glare must not have any effect because he continues to pester you.
After about the fifth plea of taking him back, you lose it.
“WILL YOU SHUT THE FUCK UP?”
You instantly slap your hands over your mouth. You hadn’t meant to scream that out loud.
“Miss Y/L/N!! There will be no tolerance for that kind of outburst and language in my classroom! Detention after school!!”
Your jaw drops. “But that’s not fair! He wouldn’t leave me alone.” You point back at Justin.
“Well the only voice I heard was yours. I’ll see you after school.”
Mr. Smith comes over and hands you the dreaded pink slip. The bell rings indicating class is over. You gather your things and hightail it the hell out of there, needing to get away from Justin as soon as possible.
That motherfucker caused you to get detention. And on today of all days! You were going to go Christmas shopping with your girls. Well not now.
❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️
After your last class of the day you find your friends to let them know you have detention and aren’t able to join them.
“Awe that totally sucks! How on earth did you get detention?” Your best friend asks.
You quickly tell them what happened. They all agree you’re going to have to get Justin back somehow.
You give them a sad wave and head back towards your 3rd period class to get this torture over with.
When you walk in you look around for Mr. Smith and are pleasantly surprised to see his Teaching Assistant instead sitting at his desk.
You plop yourself down in one of the desks in the middle row. “Where’s Mr. Smith?”
Steve looks up from the tests he’s grading. “He said he had a prior commitment and asked if I minded sitting with you.”
You roll your eyes. “You must have something better to do than hang out in detention.”
He gives you a smirk. “I don’t believe I’m the one in detention, Miss Y/L/N.”
You feel a shiver run down your spine at his smirk. “Yeah, well. It’s not exactly my fault that I’m here.”
He nods. “I know. I noticed Justin wouldn’t leave you alone. I tried to explain that to Mr. Smith after class. But you know how he is. Plus you shouted a curse word out loud.”
You grimace. “Yeah, not one of my finer moments. So how does this work? Do I have to sit here and be quiet for an hour or am I allowed to talk?”
Steve leans back in his chair and crosses his arms. Jesus. How had you never noticed how built he was before?
“Well normally I ask the student to sit there quietly but since I don’t really think you’re at fault, I don’t mind if you talk. What would you like to talk about?”
You shrug your shoulders. “Well, I don’t know a lot about you. How about we play Truth or Dare. That always brings out people’s true selves.”
There’s that smirk again. “Alright. You start.”
“Okay, Truth or Dare?”
“I’m just warning you, I don’t do a lot of Dares. So I’m going with Truth.”
“Fine with me. We’ll start easy. How old are you?”
He cocks his head to the side. “Almost 21. Truth or Dare?”
You cross your legs and can’t help but notice his gaze follows your movement. “Truth.”
“How old are you?”
You smirk. “18. I started Kindergarten late. Truth or Dare?”
“Truth.”
“So what are you going to school for?”
“I want to be a history teacher. That’s why I’m Mr. Smith’s assistant.”
You nod your head. “Makes sense. And I know you didn’t ask me but, Truth.”
He looks up towards the ceiling for a moment, thinking about what he wants to ask you. “So why was that guy bothering you in class?”
You can’t help the roll of your eyes. “He’s my ex and he wants me back. And I could care less.”
“Why’d you guys break up?”
“He decided to fuck somebody else and I don’t put up with that shit. I know I deserve better than that. So I’ve sworn off men.”
He furrows his brows. “I mean that totally sucks he cheated on you. And in my opinion he’s an idiot. But you’re really swearing off men? All men? We’re not all bad you know.”
“I didn’t say all men were bad. I’m just done with them for now. Gonna take some time for myself. Enjoy me.”
Steve’s thoughts immediately go down the drain at your last statement. He can feel his cheeks turning red as well as his pants getting tighter. He clears his throat. “Well, that’s always good to do. Time for yourself is important.”
“Yeah it is. And I believe it’s my turn. Truth or Dare?”
“Truth, please.”
You decide you want to watch him squirm. “I can’t help but notice you have a nice body. Do all the girls at college try to get a piece of you?”
Now Steve definitely knows his cheeks are red. “Um, no. I can’t say that they do. I mean, I’ve had a few interested but not a lot.”
You find that hard to believe. He’s fucking gorgeous and currently ruining your panties with every smirk of his. “Now, I don’t believe that for a second. I mean, you’re very good looking Steven. If I went to your college, I’d definitely hit on you.”
Now Steve was definitely having inappropriate thoughts. He knew he shouldn’t. You were still in high school. Although you are 18. “Well, thank you. I guess the right girl hasn’t been interested. I’m looking for a connection I guess. I want more than just sex.”
That actually surprised you. Usually sexy guys like Steve are only looking for one thing. “Yeah, a connection would be nice I suppose. Although you have to admit, sometimes just sex can be nice too.”
Steve clears his throat and looks towards the windows at the snow falling outside. “Uh, I think it’s my turn now. Truth or Dare?”
You can’t help but notice he ignored what you said about sex. “Truth.”
Steve decides to give you a little taste of your own medicine. “What’s the best sex you’ve ever had?”
Now it’s your turn to be embarrassed. “I don’t think that’s happened yet. Cause if it has, I’m thoroughly disappointed. Truth or Dare?”
“You know what? I think I’m going to go with Dare this time.”
You get excited at the idea. “Well, Steven. You look like a nice strong guy. So…” You look around the room…“I Dare you to pick up one of the desks over your head.”
Steve scoffs at you. “At least give me a challenge, Y/N.”
He stands up and picks up the middle desk in the front row and lifts it over his head as if it weighs nothing. Welp, you’re definitely wet now. Jesus. Those fucking arms of his. The veins were really prominent now. You knew he knew you were checking him out and fuck it if you cared. He sets the desk back down and sits in the desk in front of you sideways so that he can still look at you.
“Wow, I have to say that I’m impressed.”
He smirks at you. “Yeah? That was nothing. But hey, it’s my turn now. Truth or Dare?”
You almost pick Dare to see what he’d choose but you chicken out at the last minute. “I’m gonna have to go with Truth again.”
He turns his gaze towards the window again trying to think of what to ask you. Then he smirks and moves his eyes back to you. “Was that ex of yours any good in bed?”
You don’t even have to think about this answer. “Ha, no. I mean, it wasn’t the worst I’ve had. But definitely not that great. Let’s just call him a 2 pump chump and leave it at that.”
“Ouch. Can’t say I’m surprised though.”
“Are you a 2 pump chump, Steven?”
Steve just smirks at you. “I believe you’re supposed to ask me Truth or Dare?”
You smirk back at him. “Okay. Truth or Dare, handsome?”
“I think I’m going to go with Dare again.”
You think for a second before a naughty thought pops into your head. You stand up and move so that you’re standing in front of him. You put your hands on your hips. “Okay, Mr. Big Strong Guy. I Dare you to lift me up. I’ve got a big ass and hips, it might be a challenge for you.”
He stands up. You’re so close to him that your chests are touching. He gazes down at you. “I don’t think that’ll be a problem, Miss Y/L/N. And I happen to think you have a nice ass.”
Before you get a chance to reply, he grabs your hips and lifts you straight up. You squeal in surprise and grab onto his shoulders. “You’re light as a feather, babe. No problem at all.”
He slowly lowers you back down, making sure your body slowly slides against his. Jesus he feels good against you.
It takes you a minute to realize your feet are back on the floor, your hands still on his shoulders. His are still on your waist. You can’t seem to tear your gaze away from his. You can feel him pressed up against your lower tummy. He was hard. Jesus. He felt huge. He clears his throat.
“Truth or Dare, doll?”
You swallow the lump in your throat. You move your hands down to his arms. They felt nicer than you expected. He starts flexing. God damn. He could probably snap you in half without any effort. You bite your lip and meet his eyes again. “Dare.”
“Kiss me.”
You don’t even hesitate. You rise up on your toes and firmly press your lips against his. You move your hands back up so that your hands are resting on the back of his neck. His grip on your waist tightens as he returns your kiss. He keeps it light and soft. He pulls back enough so that he can make eye contact with you. “I thought you were giving up men, doll?”
You can’t help the smirk that graces your face. “That was before I felt your hard, cock pressed against me. You wanna put it to use, big guy?”
A low growl escapes his chest as he pulls you back in for another kiss. This one is more heated than the last. You moan into it. He pushes you towards Mr. Smith’s desk. He breaks the kiss and pushes everything off the desk onto the floor. He grabs you by the waist and picks you up to sit you on it.
You quickly spread your legs and grab him by his shirt to pull him back in for another kiss. He happily obliges and this time licks your bottom lip, wanting entrance. You decide to be a little tease and not let him in just yet. He doesn’t like that. He pinches your hip and you let you a little yelp, giving him the perfect opportunity to press his tongue against yours. The battle for dominance is short lived. You let him win. Damn he’s a good kisser.
The next thing you know, he rips your shirt open. You can feel your nipples hardening under your white laced bra due to the cold room. You push him back and give him your best pout. “Now I’m cold, Stevie.”
He gives you a naughty smirk and moves his right hand under your school uniform skirt and slowly slides it towards your center. “Don’t worry, doll. I know a good way to warm you up.”
A shiver runs down your spine as he drops to his knees in front of you. He places a quick kiss to both knees before he pushes your skirt up until it’s bunched up at your waist, exposing your white laced panties. He starts kissing his way towards where you need him most. You lean back on your left hand and thread your fingers of your right hand through his hair.
He takes both hands and hooks them into the band of your underwear. He suddenly stops and looks up at you. “I didn’t even ask you, Y/N. I’m sorry. Are you okay with this?”
You feel your heart skip a few beats. What a considerate guy. Justin never asked your permission. He just assumed you always wanted it.
You quickly nod your head. “Yes, Steve. Please, please don’t stop. I’ll let you know if I’m not okay with something.”
He nods and starts pulling your panties down. You lift your hips to help him out. You smirk as you see him pocket them. He throws your legs over his shoulders. He grips your ass and gives it a good squeeze. He pulls you closer towards his face.
He starts out by sucking a hickey onto the inside of your upper right thigh. Your fingers are still threaded through his hair. You give it a harsh tug. It earns you a growl. “Stop teasing. Need your mouth on me. Please.”
You barely get out the please before he’s licking a stripe from your entrance all the way to your clit. You throw your head back and let out a quiet moan. He moves his left hand to your center and pulls the little hood back to expose your full clit to him. He looks up at you. “Anyone ever tell you that you have the prettiest pussy, doll?” He winks and sucks your clit into his mouth. This moan you let out is not so quiet.
He smirks against your clit and lightly bites down on it. You involuntarily buck your hips against his face. “Jesus, Steve. Do that again.”
He happily does as you ask. He bites down a little harder this time. The pain is so good. The grip you have on his hair tightens even more. With his lips still attached to your clit, he starts flicking the bud back and forth with his tongue. He transitions from fast to slow flicks. He’s driving you crazy in the best way. You can feel that coil in your belly tightening. You’re close already.
Just when you think to yourself it can’t get any better, you feel his finger prod at your entrance. “Yes, Steve! Please fuck me with your fingers. I need it.”
He doesn’t need to be told twice. He slowly inserts his finger until he’s knuckle deep. “Fuck, doll. You’re so tight. Gonna feel so good when you’re wrapped around my cock.”
You whimper at his words. He attaches his mouth back to your clit and starts slowly pumping his finger in and out. “Mmmm. Faster, Steve. Please.”
Before he does what you say, he adds a second finger. He pulls back from your clit for a second and watches you lose yourself in the ecstasy.
“You gonna cum for me, doll? Gonna be a good girl and cum all over my fingers?”
You nod your head frantically. “Yes! Please, Steve. Make me cum.”
Steve picks up the pace of his fingers and curls them slightly so they press up against your g spot. He then attaches his lips back to your clit and bites down.
That pushes you straight into your orgasm. You cum gushing all over his face and fingers. He moans as he happily laps up everything you give him.
Once he gets you all clean, he raises back up to his feet. “You taste amazing, baby.” Then he pulls you in for a searing kiss. You moan as you taste yourself on his lips and tongue.
You start undoing his belt and unbuttoning his pants. He pulls away and looks down at you. “You don’t have to do that, doll.”
You lower his zipper and start palming him through his boxer briefs. “What if I want to? Unless of course you don’t want me to.”
He closes his eyes and drops his head forward as you push his pants and boxer briefs down and wrap your hand around his cock. It was magnificent. Definitely bigger than anything you’d taken before. You couldn’t wait to feel it stretch you open.
You start pumping your hand slowly up and down his thick shaft, using the pre cum leaking from the tip as lube. Steve rests his hands on your thighs, his eyes now opened and trained on your hand. “Fuck, doll. You’re driving me crazy here.”
You smirk and lean forward and start placing kisses on his neck. You pick up the pace of your hand just slightly. You move your kisses up his neck until your mouth is right by his ear. “Then why don’t you fuck me already?”
He groans and grabs the back of your neck to pull you in for yet another heated kiss. He nips at your bottom lip and this time you open right away, needing to feel his tongue against yours.
He suddenly pulls back and pulls your hand off of his cock. You are about to ask him what’s wrong when he grabs your hips and pulls you into a standing position. He looks down at you with an evil smirk. “If you want me to fuck you, why don’t you be a good girl for me and turn around and put your hands on the desk?”
Fuck. He doesn’t need to ask you twice. You quickly do as he says, shivering in anticipation of what’s to come.
He puts his hand between your shoulders and pushes you down until your elbows are now resting on the desk.
You wiggle your ass at him teasingly.
He quickly flips your skirt up and growls at the sight. You feel a hand come down hard on your left ass cheek. “God damn this is a nice ass. I bet it’ll jiggle real nice while I’m fucking you.”
He places his hands on your ass and gives it a hard squeeze. You let out a frustrated growl. “Stop teasing me and just fuck me, Steve. Please.”
“You sound so pretty when you’re begging for me. But you did ask nicely.” He grabs his cock at the base and slides the tip against your folds. You push back against him for some much needed friction.
He chuckles at your desperation. He pushes the tip into your entrance and pulls your cheeks apart so he can watch himself as he slowly sinks into your heat.
You clutch at the edges of the desk. You knew he was big but holy fuck. You can feel every vein and every ridge of his dick as he slowly bottoms out. It hurts but only a little. You let out a tiny whimper.
Steve rubs your back gently. “You okay, doll? Want me to stop?”
You quickly shake your head. “No, just...give me a minute.”
He continues rubbing up and down your back to help relax you. After a few minutes you wiggle your hips a little and the pain has gone away. You feel nothing but pleasure. “Please move now.”
He grabs your hips and slowly pulls out until just the tip remains in. Then he slowly pushes back in. “Fuck, baby. You’re so god damn tight. I don’t think I’ll be able to last very long. So fucking warm.”
He continues his super slow rhythm for a few more thrusts. “Faster, harder Steve. Please. Need you to fuck me hard.”
Steve smacks your right cheek this time. “Yeah? Need me to fuck you like the whore that you are?”
You clench down around his cock at his degrading words. You loved that shit. “Fuck, yes. Please.”
He happily obliges and picks up the pace. Soon the only thing that could be heard in the classroom is skin slapping against skin and your moaning and his groans.
With every thrust in his tip kisses your cervix in the most delicious way. You clamp down around him again. “God damn, baby. If you keep clenching around me like that, I’m gonna cum.”
You smirk to yourself and continue clenching around his cock. He’s now letting out some loud moans that sound like your name. He gives your ass another smack. “Want you to come first, sweetheart. You close?”
You nod your head and start moving your hand towards your clit. But it’s quickly smacked away by Steve. He moves his fingers towards your clit and gives it a hard pinch.
Your orgasm takes over your whole body. You know you’re shaking but you can’t stop it. You can feel yourself gushing all over his dick. This is the hardest you’ve ever cum in your life.
Your pussy clamps down on Steve in a vice like grip during your orgasm. He somehow manages to fuck you through it without coming himself. But he can’t hold it much longer.
“Fuck, baby. I’m gonna cum. Where do you want it?”
“On my ass. Cum on my ass, Steve.”
He gives a few more hard thrusts before he pulls out and fists his cock until his load shoots out against your ass and the back of your thighs.
You moan as you feel his spend against your skin. That was easily the best sex you’ve ever had. You’re not entirely sure you can move.
Steve puts his hands on the desk and leans forward a little to catch his breath. He moves your hair aside and places a kiss against the back of your neck. “You okay, doll?”
You slowly nod. “Oh, I’m more than okay. But is there something to clean me up with?”
Steve chuckles and raises back up into a standing position. He quickly pulls up his pants and briefs and tucks himself back in and zips himself up before going into the supply closet in the classroom to grab you some paper towels.
He comes back over with paper towels in hand and starts cleaning you up. Before he can get it all, you move your right hand behind you and scoop some of his cum off of your ass and stick your finger in your mouth. “Mmm, just wanted to taste you.”
Steve can feel himself getting hard again. “Jesus Christ, doll. You’re gonna be the death of me.”
You chuckle. Once he gets you all cleaned up, you raise your unsteady body up and try to straighten your clothes as best you can. You then remember that Steve ripped your shirt open and you are unable to button it back up. You playfully glare at him. “Well shit Steve. How am I supposed to walk out of here with my shirt undone? My jacket is in my locker.”
Steve’s gaze lowers to your exposed bra again. You snap your fingers to get his attention. He quickly gains focus and grabs his coat off the back of his chair. “Here, you can wear mine. I don’t usually wear it anyways. I like the cold.”
You happily accept the article of clothing and put it on and zip it up. It’s huge on you. “You are a strange one, aren’t you?”
His cheeks redden a little. “Not so strange that you just let me fuck you against Mr. Smith’s desk.”
You beam at him. “Yeah, well. What can I say? If I know I want something, I take it.”
Steve wraps his arms around your waist. “So….are you free Friday night? I’d really like to take you out on a date.”
You decide to tease him a little. “Well, I don’t know. See, I just had the best sex of my life and I’m not sure you can top that.”
“Really? Well, I bet I can. You just gotta give me a chance.”
You press a quick kiss to his lips. “I’m just kidding, Stevie. Of course I’ll go on a date with you. But don’t expect me to put out after.” You wink at him.
He grins at you. “We honestly don’t have to have sex after. I’d be happy with just dinner and nice conversation. You know, make a connection.”
You can’t help but match his smile. “That actually sounds really nice.”
Steve lets go of you and starts gathering his things. “Gotta show you how a man should rightfully treat a lady.”
You all of a sudden couldn’t wait for Friday. You grab your bag off the floor and head towards the door with him. He grabs a hold of your wrist and pulls you into him before you can get the door open. He smiles down at you and tucks some hair behind your ear. “For the record, that was also the best I’ve ever had.”
You smirk. “Oh, you haven’t seen anything yet.”
With that you give him a wink and open the classroom door and saunter out.
He just shakes his head at you with a smile. Not feeling this connected to anyone in a while.

At first glance, you would think that he’s just the class clown. If you’ve never seen him out of class, that would be your only perception of him. But in truth, he’s one of the most well known guys in school. Part of Dream, he’s always the talk of almost everyone’s day— everyday. But not mine. I see nothing more than an arrogant, playful and annoyingly confident guy who wants nothing to do with the rest of the school other than his friends, but girls are constantly falling on their knees for him and I can never understand why. But like any other seemingly perfect student who’s living the life, they were bound to be rough around the edges, some edges digging deeper than others.

description. I never wanted to get involved with him. I never liked him from the start. His presence in class has always made my eyes roll due to his nature that I just never seem to be fond of like the rest of the school. Personal problems led us to meeting in detention. But when Haechan could have possibly slipped out something he shouldn’t have, and our instances of meetings got more often, coincidental or not, as much as I couldn’t tolerate that unique nature that sets me into flames of anger, the world has its ways of bringing us together regardless. And my curiosity got me to know that there was much more to him than what meets the eye.
!as they should masterlist!
My eyes stared at my laptop screen, which only showed the five sentences I’ve typed out long minutes ago. My fingers couldn’t bring themselves up to type on the keyboard. Even if it did, it’ll simply hover above them for minutes as my mind remainded blank. I wasn’t able to think of anything to write. How was I able to type those five sentences when I didn’t even have a rough plot to go off by?
I was sitting alone in the quiet morning. I was able to get the keys to unlock the classroom since I’ve always been one of the little few that comes by very early in the morning. Silence made itself comfortable, the sound of the wind softly blowing in from the windows. Nothing came to mind. No ideas, no plot, no inspiration— nothing. Why wasn’t I able to write? I’ve faced such days when my brain would malfunction since I simply wasn’t in the mood. That was the case for most days. Today’s definitely not like that. Today was new. It’s not that I wasn’t in the mood, I just had no motivation. Why’s that? Since I didn’t have an idea. And who did I have to blame that for? No one but myself. And that’s what I didn’t like, not having to know the root cause of my inability to write.
I’ve tried to suppress my frustration, telling myself “It’s fine. Think deeper. You’ll find something to write. Just think.” But that sliver of encouragement was of no use at all as the inner voices of my self-disappointment popping up and attacking my confidence in every corner, and that was all I could think about. I instantly slammed my laptop shut, groaning out loudly and grabbing my hair. I leaned forward, elbows supporting my upper body as I balled fists in my hair. I took deep breaths in an attempt to stay calm. It worked, but I assumed it’ll only be for a short while.
I closed my eyes, thinking of them resting them awhile after being blinded by the screen’s light for almost an hour. Just then, I heard footsteps walking by. Instinctively, I looked up to the windows on the right hand side of the classroom that allowed us to see the hallway. Someone walked past. I couldn’t figure out who it was. It’s a guy. What seemed to be the only thing that stood out in the darkness was his somewhat bright orangey brown hair. Other than that, it was just his dark figure walking past. I glanced down on my phone. I still had thirty minutes till the school turned on the lights. Who is he and what was he doing here so early? From what I know, no one in this building comes to school early other than me.
I let out a sigh, shaking my head. For a moment I thought I had seen a ghost. But, I don’t believe in such things. The possibility was there though. Either way, I slid my laptop back into its leather case and placed it under my table. I waited in silence as I pressed my palm on my cheek, looking out the window. The trees swayed camly in the wind, the sun yet to rise and so the light that shined on the trees and school field gave off a grey hue. The sound of birds chirped softly in the distance. I slowly put my eyes to rest, as well as my brain before I get back to fighting another tiring day of school and making myself suffer even more by coming up with something to write, as well as other stressful things regular students go through.
I snapped back to reality once my classmate strolled in. So the day has started and I wasn’t able to enjoy the peacefulness of the morning any longer. It went by as usual. With the help of my friends making me laugh through each one hour class, I was able to keep myself fully awake. Then came History. The few subjects I liked most, but also hate. It wasn’t the subject’s fault, but the teacher’s. I had a strong dislike towards the way Mister Low taught History. I much rather preferred Miss Jenkins. But she only ever came to class as a relief teacher if Mister Low wasn’t around. To which was why I always prayed that something would happen to him so he wouldn’t have to clock into class. Luck wasn’t on my side today.
I said goodbye to all my other friends, taking my History materials and moving over to the classroom next door since the rest of my friend group took Geography, which I had zero interest in.
Mister Low barely thought us anything today. We were simply only told to write essays as time practice for our exam that wasn’t even coming in months time. I was hungry for content, to learn more about the topic that we were just barely a quater way done with. But he wasn’t giving any of it. I looked at the clock, thirty two more minutes. I glanced at my paper. I was already done with the essays, quickly pushing through it with the mentality of “Just get it done and other with.” That self-made motto was what got me through these three years. I then adverted my attention to Mister Low, who was sitting down at the teacher’s desk and typing away about who knows what, teacher things I guess.
The classroom was silent. And obviously it wasn’t because we were well behaved. I turned around, scanning my eyes over the classroom. Everyone was doing anything else but the task to be completed at hand. Majority were on their phones. They didn’t even bother hiding, their phones all out in the open on the table. Some were even holding their phones high up with their elbows on the table. The rest were either sleeping, drawing, or listening to music on their wireless earpieces.
I puckered my lips. My eyes shot to one person that caught my eye. Lee Donghyuck. Or what everyone else calls him by, Haechan. No one has called him by his real name before. Even the teachers call him Haechan. He was at the back, the farthest row of tables. His bright brown hair stood out to me. Was he the one I saw this morning?
Haechan was talking with some others at the back. They were having their own little group session, only their voices were being heard in the silent classroom as they huddled up. I faced back to the front but immediately turned around and glared when Haechan’s loud laughter spreaded across the room. Why wasn’t anyone bothered by them? How could anyone be fine with the fact that their annoying chatters and laughter constantly disrupted the class’s peace?
“Oi! Mister Low!” Haechan voiced out, making everyone, and I mean everyone, even the ones that are usually in their deepest sleep, turn their heads in sync to face Haechan. Mister Low lifted his eyes off his screen. “Yes?” He questioned with a tilted head. Haechan stood up from his seat and slowly made his way to the teacher’s desk, fingers interlocked behind him as he casually stride down the gap between the row of tables. He bounced on the balls of his feet slightly with each step.
“Can we get released early?” Haechan’s question made everyone turn their heads to each other and exchanged looks. “What is he thinking?” “Will he actually let us go?” “It’s Haechan. Let him do his thing.” Those are what I envisioned the students telepathically saying to each other. I however was shaking my head. There Haechan goes again. Being the all teacher’s pet and horning his ability to take advantage of each one of them, even the most strict ones. Mister Low was on the lenient side, the dumb lenient one to be specific— the pushover teacher.
“No. You still have twenty minutes. What would you guys do then?” Haechan laughed, clapping his hand once and keeping them clasped together in front of his chest. “It’s not like we’re getting off school grounds. Majority of us still have lessons after our late lunch. As you can see, all of us have already completed our essays. So I don’t see why you need to hold us any longer.” Haechan’s voice flowed in a formal and engaging way, just like an orator who can easily grab the interest of his audience. I scoffed and rolled my eyes. “I can’t belive he’s actually doing this.” I mumbled to myself.
This proposal was taken into consideration as Mister Low didn’t give a reply, but was looking up elsewhere thoughtfully. After a moment, he sighed in defeat, lazily swirling his hand in the air. “Okay, okay. Go. Put your essays here.” Mister Low called out to everyone.
No one even bothered to greet Mister Low. Or give in their essays. Everyone packed their bags as quickly as ever and ran out, desperate on getting out of this hell-hole of boredom. Haechan muttered a “Thank you, sir.” skipping back to his acquaintances and they all gave him a pat on the back. Mister Low has already exited. And I was the only one left sitting there, frozen in shock. How did he even get Mister Low to agree to that? All he had to say was a few sentences. The amount of persuasion he brought to the table was incredible. But I didn’t like it. He had good speaking skills, that I know. But he’s using it for the wrong reasons.
“Aren’t you leaving?” The familiar confident voice rang in my ear. Just when I was deep in my thoughts, I looked up, seeing Haechan standing in front of me as the rest walked past. This was the first time he’s ever spoken “Yeah.” I whispered. It was also the first time I’ve ever spoken to him. I stood up, blinking twice. I gathered my things and made a run for the door. I would never want to talk to him again. Just from his voice I could tell he was annoyingly confident, a feature that is commonly seen from those popular guys in rom-com movies. He wasn’t a bad boy per say, just... over the top stuck up.
I got back to classroom after walking around school for the rest of the minutes. I didn’t have to do that if Haechan hasn’t released the class early. I had nothing to do. I could just stayed in class if it weren’t for Haechan. “You look dead.” Yiung said, coming up from behind and placing a hand on my shoulder. I dropped down to the floor after placing my materials on the table, covering my head with my arms. I was completely brain drained at that point. “History shot me flat out.” I replied, my voice muffled.
“Are you staying here for lunch again?” I felt a presence beside me. I lifted my head up, seeing Mina squatting down while Yiung had her arms folded. I hummed in response. Mina placed a hand on my back, rubbing it up and down slowly. “It’s okay. I’ll get you gummies to eat during Biology.” Mina reassured me. She stood up and called out to Yiung, the both of them waving at me and sending me mental support as they left.
I was sitting at my study table, completed homework neatly stacked and pushed off to the side. The only thing left in front of me was my laptop, opened and glaring at me with its bright screen despite setting the brightness down to its lowest. My eyes never left the blank screen, an empty white simply looking back at me as it waited to be loaded with words. As much as I tried squeezing out every idea I had, I realised that it was all too boring. Too cliche, too predictable. It wouldn’t stand out like my other works do if I were to publish the piece of writing.
I glanced at the time shown on the bottom right of the screen. 6:05AM. I could get ready and head out now. I did stay up all night, but I took a nap immediately after coming home and ended waking up at eleven. My sleep schedule is all over the place. I lifted myself off my chair, turning my body here and there to stretch out my back and arms, instantly making my way to the bathroom.
I entered the school, greeting the security guard as he handed me the classroom keys. I placed my index finger through the key ring, swirling it around as the keys made its sound while it dangled and moved around. Just when I was about the enter the building to my classroom, I paused in my tracks. A familiar figure stood in front of another security guard. With squinted eyes, I went forward and pushed open the door.
“Hey.” I said, not directing it to a specific person. They didn’t respond and instead kept their stare on each other, which made me look at them weirdly. I shrugged and walked past them, slightly offended with their zero reaction. Due to the silence of the hallways, I was able to hear their conversation clearly, though they kept quiet the moment I came in.
“You aren’t suppose to do that. You’ll be reported to the principal. This is major.” The security guard lectured Haechan. “Honestly, I don’t care. Do what you want. I’ll settle it my own way.” I heard Haechan’s footsteps coming. Fast. He was storming. And in a matter of seconds, he was ahead of me, going a few more classes down, unlocking his classroom and furiously swinging open the door, disappearing out of my sight.
My steps to class got slower, my eyes not wanting to leave the opened door of Haechan’s classroom. Questions began circling in my head. What were they talking about? What is Haechan hiding that he had to keep it a secret from anyone who walked past them? Something major?
I took out my laptop from its leather case, turning it on and heading over to Google Docs. The stress of not having anything written settled in, but it somehow got overpowered by my thoughts and curiosity about Haechan’s situation. It was suspicious. Haechan talked to the security in a completely different manner. He was normally seen as the sun of the school. Bright, cheerful, always happy and living the life. But I felt the coldness of his words. It was so hard-hitting that I could feel it from when I was walking to class.
“Honestly, I don’t care. Do what you want. I’ll settle it my own way.” I shivered, closing my eyes and shaking my head. He was rough and harsh with his words. I was still shocked by it. However, as I looked at my screen again, something clicked in my head. I slowly brought my fingers up to the keyboard, they hovered above them for a moment before I began to type.
Major. Possibility of being reported by the principal. Keys...
I clicked on the period key at least twenty times before finally ending it with a question mark. I exhaled sharply, leaning forward against the table and allowing my elbows to support my upper body as I interlocked my fingers together and allowing my chin to rest on them. Why couldn’t I stop think about it? What was it that struck out so much that I couldn’t shake it off? It wasn’t even my business so why was I eager to find out?
“Wait.” I whispered. I thought about how this gave me the opportunity to come up with something. Thiller, mystery type of story. I’ve never written in that genre before, mostly being romance and fantasy. But Haechan’s suspicions behaviour moments ago peaked my interest. I could write something about that. I’ll use what I heard as guidance. I didn’t have an exact plot. Nor was I fully settled and happy with the idea, but I’d still be able to write the introduction with this mystery.
My fingers began typing away, faster than ever. The satisfaction of hearing the keyboard made its sound while I quickly pressed on each key. I was feeling that adrenaline to complete the introduction before the start of class. Something in me apparently fueled. But it wasn’t my motivation. I was simply typing. I didn’t feel anything. Aren’t writer suppose to be emotionally drawn and attached to their own book? It’s as if I’m writing to simply put words on paper without any other agenda, staying in the stagnant state of nothingness.
Later that day, I was met with the dreadful History class yet again. It’s the only lesson I had this week so might as well “Just get it done and over with.” I mumbled to myself as I made my way to the classroom next door. Everyone was doing their own things. Once again Haechan’s group of acquaintances were at the back chatting as loudly as ever. I call them acquaintances since I’ve only ever seen them hang out with Haechan during History. Other than that, Haechan doesn’t give a damn about anyone, besides the other Dream members.
I rolled my eyes and sat down at my table. Seconds later, Mister Low came in. We greeted him and sat back down. “So class today we’ll be doing another time practice after I go over some key point. I’ll be handing out the essay questions now. You’ll have to complete by the end of class.”
“You can’t be fucking serious.” I growled lowly, watching him handing out the papers to the first row in front. As he headed to my row I couldn’t help but feel the anger rising up in me. We aren’t actually going to be doing this right? When the student in front of me handed me the papers, I took one off the stack and passed it on to the back. My eyes looked down it. In annoyance, I scrunched it up in my hands, now smashing it to a small ball in my palm.
More than half an hour has already passed. He’s taking forever to go through the things that we learned, despite it not being a lot. I furiously pushed myself off my seat, the loud noise getting everyone’s eyes and attention on me. I looked down, teeth gritting as I tried taking in a deep breath before looking back up to Mister Low, who gave me a blank expression as his eyes travelled from the crumpled paper in my hand and back to me.
“I’m not doing this shit. What the hell have you been doing, Mister Low? You are barely giving us any content to learn and study. We’ve been doing time practices for weeks. I get that it’s important, but we aren’t even halfway done with chapter seven. Not to mention that we still have chapters eight, nine and ten to finish by the end of the fucking year!”
I was breathing heavily now. My arms were stiff and my stare on him fired with fury was intense. “Fuck your time practices.” I simply said, not giving a flying care about my consequences at that moment, throwing the crushed up paper past Mister Low and into the dustbin behind him. I ran a hand through my hair, turning around and seeing how everyone had mixed expressions. Shocked, satisfied, scared? Most probably all of the above. Haechan however had the widest smirk on his face. I swung my head back to Mister Low.
“I’m gonna have to give you detention for that, Miss _____.” I scoffed loudly, folding my arms and cocking up a brow, the corner of my lip lifting up ever so slightly to a smirk. “Do it. Give me hours of detention. More of your stupid practices. But you better teach this class something before I report you to the principal about how much you suck.”
Just like it was on cue, the school be rang, signalling that class had ended. I jerked my head slightly at Mister Low as I packed my things, everyone doing the same and rushing out.
“The fuck did you do?!” Lucas sat down beside me at the lunch table. Yiung and Mina were completing homework last minute and being the kind friend, I fed them chips whenever they opened their mouths for it. “You’re so busted.” Mina muttered, shaking her head in disappointment. “I shouldn’t be laughing oh God I’m sorry.” Lucas tried to suppress his laughter but wasn’t able to achieve it for even one second, bursting out laughing so loud. I slammed my hand palm down on the table.
“Someone had to do it! We can’t just be writing essays forever. We needed to learn the content but the idiot refuses to even do it. How’s that being a good teacher?” I angrily spoke, seeing Yiung opening her mouth wide. I shoved a chip in her mouth as she hummed in satisfaction. Lucas glanced down at his phone. “You’ll be getting the notice for detention in nine minutes.”
“Oh by the way...” Lucas started. I turned my head to him while Yiung and Mina still had their heads down, but their ears wide open. “I got some tea on Haechan.” A big mischievous smirk crept up his face, giggling ever so softly. I tilted my head and widened my eyes. Could this be related to what happened this morning? “Spill.” I said in a firm tone. Lucas nodded, leaning in close to me as his shoulders raised up till his ears. “I heard that this morning Haechan was seen with the principal in his office. I’m not sure what it’s about, but it must be serious since no one’s talking about Haechan today.”
Mina gasped loudly and lifted her head up from her worksheet. She pointed her pen to Lucas and nodded her head vigorously with affirmation. “You’re right! The fact that no one had talked about Haechan today weirded me out so much! What I’m most shocked about is that no girls had even approached him today.” Mina whispered, joining in on the conversation as well and leaving her incomplete homework.
I furrowed my eyes. That was indeed weird, and very out of the ordinary. I would always see girls gathered outside of Haechan’s classroom, waiting desperately for him to walk out and chasing him to shower him with gifts and presents. Most girls used that chaotic situation to confess to him, knowing very well that the answer from him would be a flat out “No.” I still don’t know why they even bother despite knowing the outcome. It’s as if every girl in this school has fallen under some kind of spell that make them act like vampires wanting to suck the life out of the unbothered Haechan. It’s ridiculous and immensely dumb. Explains why I don’t have that any other girl friends than Yiung and Mina.
“Is it weird that I want to know what’s going on with him?” I questioned awkwardly. Lucas shrugged. “I guess that’s just your journalist side of you showing.” He simply replied. “Why did you quit writing the school’s newspaper when you are still going to write books? It’s the same thing.” I let out a disappointing sigh. “What you write about is different, Mina. How many times do I have to explain it to you guys.”
Suddenly the cafeteria that was loud and rowdy seconds ago has been put to silence instantly. All of us turned our head to the doors. It swung open, revealing the Dream. The school’s normal reaction would be to swoon over each one of them and having a fangirl session as they across their area. As cliché as that sounds, it is what usually happens. However, as expected due to the new information I acquired from Lucas, no one gave a single reaction to them, Instead, their eyes followed them warily with each step they took. They were quick to grab their food and leave. If the pin drop silence wasn’t enough, the atmosphere changed completely too. It was cold and deadly, as if a serial killer who kept us hostage just came waltzing in.
The moment they left, whispers and murmurs filled the room. The four of us looked back at each other, exchanging unrecognizable looks. “That was...”
“Interesting.”
After lunch, I was notified to head to the detention room once I ended school. I found it unexplainable. I screamed at the teacher and basically called him useless and this is what I get? Just detention? I mean I’m glad I didn’t have to do anything more, but I also thought about just how poorly this school manages its students, settling every problem with clearing up detentions hours. Any student could walk in with an empty mind and come out the exact same. It made no difference.
I stepped in, only one teacher I was unfamiliar with sat at the teachers desk. I assumed she was only here for detention since I’ve never seen her around before. And because this was my first time in detention. She didn’t bother looking at me and instantly jerked her head to the tables, urging me to sit. I raised a brow. What else was I going to do?
I picked a seat, fully out of random. “Uh excuse me?” I asked, trying to sound polite as I pulling my chair in. The teacher looked up at me, her eyes narrowed with her eyes furrowed. “What?” She asked back with a rude tone. I arched one of my eyebrows in a questioning look. “Can I use my laptop?”
“Do whatever you want.”
I breathed a quiet laugh and nodded my head. “Well that was easy.” I whispered to myself. I took my laptop out of my bag and turned it on after placing it on the table. While waiting for it to start up and keying in my password, the door opened. I simply thought it was just another student who had detention. However, I could already tell from how their footsteps sounded that it wasn’t just any student.
“Haechan. Nice seeing you here.” I looked up from the keyboard. I noticed how the woman flashed a bright smile as Haechan bowed his head slightly and making his way over to the tables. “I’m only here for an hour, right?” He asked, as if I wasn’t sitting in between their conversation. The woman hummed happily. “Yes, of course. It’s what I can do to repay you for your hard work.”
Haehan chuckled. “I’m glad.” He decided to take the seat next to mine, placing his bag on the chair and sitting down. He then turned to me, having a wide smile till his eyes formed a thin line. “Nice seeing you here. Care telling me how you ended up here?” Haechan questioned me in a playful manner. I took my eyes off him and to my screen, proceeding to head to Google Docs are per usual. I heard Haechan let out an exasperated sigh. “Nice meeting you too.” He muttered.
Only a few minutes of silence have passed and the woman has already left the room since she had “personal matters.” to attend to, which left the room completely unattended and unsupervised. I assumed that she wouldn’t be coming back either. While I was thinking of how to continue my writing, I looked over to Haechan, who’s taking out a very large and full pencil case along with a stack of paper that had a very small grid. It looked like one of those papers that neat girls used for their notes to make it look aesthetic.
He proceeded to open his pencil case and fished out for something. It was a felt tip pen. Or a calligraphy pen. I couldn’t exactly tell. He leaned forward and started writing on the paper. Seconds later, he took out a textbook from his bag. I noticed it was the History textbook.
“What are you doing?” I asked, suddenly getting curious the moment he took out the History textbook. He raised both his eyebrows, staring at me for a moment before lifting the textbook up slightly. “Making notes.” He replied very simply. I peeked over at his table, his other notes were scattered around. I was indeed impressed. “They’re... pretty.” I complimented awkwardly. Haechan chuckled. “Want to buy one?”
“Excuse me?”
“Eight dollars per paper. But the cost vary depending on the topic and subject.”
“What the hell are you saying?”
Haechan turned his body to have me, his arm resting on the back of his chair as he gave me an unimpressed expression. “I’m selling you my notes. What else?” He asked dryly, rolling his eyes and paying his attention back down to his notes. I blinked my eyes twice, trailing them from the notes and back to Haechan. What was he even doing? “You sell your notes...?” I asked softly. Haechan nodded firmly. “Indeed, I do.”
“So do you want one or not?” “No.” I replied quickly, turning back to the front to focus on my writing.
Nothing else could be heard other than the typing of my keyboard, Haechan dropping his many pens on the table constantly as he switched between them every second and Haechan tapping his feet to unrecognizable beats as he listened to music on his Airpods. As I continued on with my writing, I realised that I’ve come to the part where the character had to know the truth about what actually happened, or in this reality, what actually happened to Haechan.
I looked over to him, he was flipping through another textbook now, getting ready to write another set of notes. I reached out, poking him on his shoulder with my index finger. He raised both his brows and took off one side of his Airpods. “Hm?” He asked questionably. “I have to know why you’re here.”
“You mean what got me into detention?” I nodded my head. Haechan took in a deep breath, letting a loud and lazy sigh escape his lips. “Everyone’s curious about that. Not just you. What right do you have to gain special access to know the truth?” I brought my head back, my mouth gaping slightly as my face went blank. That was true. I had no right. Everyone was curious about it too. It may not be seen in the hallways, especially when Haechan walks by. But rumors have been spreading behind closed doors.
“People are talking about you.” Haechan scoffed, leaning back into his chair. “Of course they are. It’s an everyday thing.” I furrowed my brows, surprised at just how delusional he was being. “I meant that people are spreading rumors about you. I get that you’re the it-boy of school or whatever you’d call it. But I don’t think you realise that your reputation is slowly going down the drain.”
I paused for a moment, tilting my head a few angles down as a small smile, which later grew into a more satisfied one as I slowly watched Haechan being thrown off guard by my words. “I also happened to hear you talking with that security guard about the classroom keys.” I was now smirking, my eyes never leaving his. “It’s not even a big deal.” I huffed loudly. “Must be if the principal’s involved.”
Haechan glanced at the door, he was suddenly acting cautious and wary, as if someone would jump out to get him if he didn’t keep his eyes on the door. “They found out that I got stole a spare of classroom keys.” Haechan blurted out. I puckered my lips and nodded, bringing my hands back to the keyboard to record his words. “What the fuck? Are you some reporter?”
“No but I need to type this down. Could say it’s a habit. I used to write the school’s newspaper afterall.” Haechan arched a brow. “So you’re planning to tell this to the newspaper team?” I gave a half-shrug, shaking my head. “I quit two months ago. I thought you knew. It was in the newspaper.”
“I don’t read them.”
“Because you’re sick of seeing your face in it every week?”
“Could say that again.” I chuckled lightly. “I just need it for inspiration on a story I’m writing. Anyways, continue.” Haechan gave me a skeptical look, eyeing me up and down with suspicion before pinching his temples. “I didn’t exactly stole them. I made them.” His words made me widened my eyes. “H-How?” I stuttered, purely curious and somewhat amazed at the same time.
“Chenle brought a 3D printer once. It could copy and make the exact replica of anything. I simply used it to make a spare key just so I can come here whenever I wanted to.” Haechan inhaled quietly. “But they also found out I used that method to gain access to other things... That’s as far as I want say.” For some reason, instead of freaking out, I sat there in silence, staring at him as I couldn’t move an inch. I didn’t know how to react. “That’s... Wow.” No matter how hard I tried to find words to say, those were the only two that came to mind.
“If you use it for other things, why aren’t you getting a more severe punishment? We’re literally just serving detention hours when I thought I’d be doing community service for talking shit about Mister Low.” Haechan chuckled lowly, running a hand through his soft-looking hair. “You nit not worry about that.”
“What do you mean?” I whispered. “Mister Low is about to get fired since the other students in our History class are complaining to other teachers about how you’re right and that he really couldn’t teach. Word gets around in the teachers’ office and so.” Haechan bobbed his shoulders, not needing to complete to full sentence as I already got the memo. “And I have my own ways for settling my problems.” He was saying the same thing he said to the security guard that morning. “How, exactly?”
“The world is tipped in favour of the rich and powerful. Don’t you think?” Haechan smirked widely along with a giggle. “You use money to get what you-”
“Calm down. I was just joking. I wanted to make your story more interesting.” Haechan laughed. He began packing his things up, slinging his bag on one shoulder. “My time here is up so ciao.” Haechan said in an instant, as if wanting to get away as fast as possible while trying to look casual. He walked away, lifting a hand up and waving it while using the other to open the door and left. The room was met with utter silence. “What the hell just happened?”
For the rest of the day I couldn’t help but wonder if his words were true. What else could he have done with 3D printer? What if it was something more than just replicating classroom keys? He said it was just to help with my writing, but what if it was actually true?
I never got Haechan out of my mind as I took reference from the points I’ve taken down while he talked to me for my writing. It helped, nonetheless. I had a flow of a proper plot. However, I was not fully satisfied with it. The way Haechan structured his words were weird, the possibility that there’s more to it got glued to my mind and was the main topic of my thoughts every day.
One afternoon, I chose to stay back at the library to do my assignments. I had the sudden motivation to be productive at school. While making my way there, I passed by a dark corner. I stopped in my tracks and walked back, as for a split second I thought I had seen a shadow of some sort. Indeed, I was right. Two people were standing there to be exact. I was all too familiar with one of their figures, noticing that it was Haechan. The other I assumed to be a regular student. They stood at the furthest end of the dark hallway. Anyone could have walked past and not realise anything. I hid myself behind the wall, my head peeking out just a little that only my eyes could be seen.
“I need more.” I heard the student beg. Haechan folded his arms, weight shifting from one leg to the other. “Can’t do. You’re lucky you bought my notes. It should be enough for the test.” Haechan whispered, leaning in towards him. The student looked down at the plastic bag, eyes staring at it for a moment before slowly trailing them up to meet Haechan’s. The student let out a defeated sigh, holding the bag up in front of him. “Pleasure doing business with you.” He bid Haechan goodbye, shoving one hand into his pocket while letting the bag hang on the index finger of his other hand that fell down to his side. With a leaned back posture, he slowly made his way out of the hallways. With quick and brisk steps, I speed walked forward, turning a corner and hiding there till he walked past.
I decided to stay there, cautious as to whether Haechan was about to walk past as well. However, I heard his footsteps, but they weren’t coming to my direction. I peeked my head out of the corner once again, this time a little further with confidence of him not coming my way. Haechan was walking towards the opposite direction. I wasn’t sure what drew me into doing so, but I decided to follow him. Where I ended up was seemingly unexpected.
I was steps away from the door. Tilting my head upwards, I was met with the sign above the door. Music room. I’ve only been here once, to interview the student that was about to perform solo for a concert we had last year to showcase the performing art curriculum. I slowly made my way to the door, the window giving me a clear view of the room. I looked in, seeing Haechan sitting by the piano. His fingers hovered above the keys, just like how mine would float above the keyboard when I had no idea what letter to press. I couldn’t see his face due to his hair that covered till his eyes.
Either way, I gulped and placed my hand on the handle, pushing it down and going in while clearing my throat. Haechan shot his head up from the piano and to me with a blank expression. I quickly closed the door behind me and awkwardly placed the hand behind my head. “Hey. It’s our second time meeting.” Haechan greeted, letting his forearm rest on edge of the fall board, leaning his upper body. I hummed as I slowly sidled my way up to him. “It is.” I simply said.
“So why are you here? Did you follow me?” Haechan asked, tone filled to the brim with suspicion as he squinted his eyes on me. I opened my mouth, but words couldn’t come out. I wasn’t able to speak as I tried to come up with an excuse. “I- Uh was headed to the library when I walked past and saw you in here.”
“So? You have no reason to want to come in here.” Haechan replied dryly. I mentally rolled my eyes. I felt as if I couldn’t keep up a conversation with him without wanting to burst due to his rudeness. He had no reason to be this cold towards me. Does he always have to be like this?
“The libraries in the opposite block. Our classrooms aren’t even here.” Haechan breathed out, eyes scanning across the keys of the piano before shooting up to me. “What’s your actual reason coming here?” Haechan’s voice grew lower with each word till it became a faint whisper. His eyes were piercing into me deadly, as if I was meeting the grim reaper that’s about to take my soul. Once again I tried to speak but I couldn’t. Even if I did, I would be slurring through my words as I didn’t know myself why I chose to follow him here.
“I... I want to know more about you.” I blurted out. I wanted to give myself a smack in the head. I sounded too weird, like a stalker. I had millions of other ways to phrase that but I chose to be too straightforward. Haechan jerked his head, hissing when he puffed his chest up as he inhaled. “Do you like me?”
“What? No. Why would you even-” “You wouldn’t have followed me all the way here if you weren’t interested. This is the first time I’ve seen you having the urge to talk to me.” Haechan cocked an eyebrow in my direction, to which I responded with a loud huff of amusement. “My intention was to know what else you are doing with that 3D printer of yours for my story.” I stated, matter-of-factly. I ran a frustrated hand through my hair.
“You’re a writer. Aren’t you suppose to be creative?” I took a deep breath. Breathe, just breathe. I was actually about to explode like a volcano that was about to erupt at any second. Why did he have to be so hard to talk to? On instinct, I slammed my hand on the keyboard, the loud sound coming from the keys I pressed down pierced through my eardrums. “Listen. It’s getting really fucking annoying to talk to you. Answer my questions, and I won’t needing to see you again.”
Haechan had zero reaction to my words. It’s like he had a bullet proof screen in between us as I fired my words in anger. “Incorrect. We have another session of detention on Wednesday. Three hours to clear, and it’s just the two of us. Sounds fun, don’t you think?” My blood was boiling. With each second that passed, I bit my lower lip as I tried hard to not slap his face. “I highly doubt you’ll be a good enough student to attend anyways. Besides the damn point, just tell me what you’ve been doing with the printer.”
“You know some things should be kept private. Like I said before, you have no right to force it out of me.”
“But you were willing and gave me some information at that time.” I could tell in Haechan’s eyes that he was taken off guard, but he was able to skillfully bounced back. “Because I was kind enough to wanna help you with your writing.” At this point, we were constantly firing words at each in a matter of seconds. It was like a war zone, keeping our eye contact and never breaking it once, our voices growing higher with each comeback.
“You know what? Fuck it. I’ll find out myself. Since you’re unwilling to tell me anything at all, it must mean that you have something going on. I’ve already been suspicious of you from the start.” I stormed my way to the door. Forcefully grabbing onto the handle, I turned around sharply as I muttered a “Watch out.” before walking out and slamming the door shut. I needed to put the story on hold. I won’t give up till I find out what Haechan’s onto. I had to know, I just had to. To satisfy myself with solving a mystery that I unconsciously got myself into.
The very next day, I chose to get to school earlier than I normally would. If I wanted to discover what Haechan was doing, I had to be ahead of him. This was just the start.
When I reached my classroom, I looked down the hallway., my eyes slowly looking up to the sign of Haechan’s class and back down. Absentmindedly, I took small and wary steps, walking up to his class. I glued myself to the walls when I got there. My mind slowly began to wonder why was I even digging deeper into this trivial matter that wasn’t even any of business. Perhaps it was due to me not being able to complete the story myself, losing all my creativity in one go and I have yet to know why. Or was it perhaps because I was curious as to who Haechan was? I’ve only see Haechan as someone perfect to the eyes of society. It was only natural for him to not be perfect behind the shadows. Perhaps I wanted to know that he was human as well.
I peeked my head ever so slightly, just a few centimeters. I was quite shocked to see Haechan there, sitting at the back of the class. Just how early does this guy come to school? And for what? I saw another unfamiliar person stood next to him, hand on the edge of the table as he leaned forward. What I found to be the most weird and out of the ordinary was the fact that there was some kind of light being illuminated on the table. Due to the guy who was standing up, I couldn’t tell where the light came from. The dark classroom made this look a hundred time more eerie than I expected it to be.
“We need to do this quick.” I heard Haechan’s mutter. He was attempting to keep his voice down. He looked extremely cautious ad he kept looking out the window. I had to pull my head away and rely on my ears for information. He was too skeptical of his surroundings. “Chill. It’ll be done in ten minutes. You know how fast this baby works. When are you going to do it?” The other male spoke in a normal voice, which make Haechan groan and let out a loud “Shh.”
“Keep your fucking voice down. No one should be hearing about this. Especially her.” I heard the male scoff. “Ah that girl...” Was the last I’ve heard. I slowly peeked my head out once again. “Maybe after detention on Wednesday. I don’t know.”
“Well you better be quick.”
They were both looking at whatever was on the table. It was dark but the light coming form it didn’t help me recognise it at all. From what I could infer, it was probably a machine of some sorr, from the way the other male called it “baby”. Was it the 3D printer? I had no solid evidence that it was. What was Haechan going to do? I was indeed clueless. But was Haechan referring to me?
Throughout the school day, I had my eyes on Haechan the whole time, watching his every move. Where he went, what he did, who he talked to. I was all eyes and ears on him. He didn’t seem to be doing anything weird. And the school was back to normal too. Girls were back to screaming his name wherever he showed up, he was back to being the all-rounder student he was. I still doubt he was an all-rounder at all. Maybe a deformed one. A deformed all-rounder. Well, that was new.
“Sorry guys but I have to stay a little while to spy on Haechan. Head home without me.” I said to the gang as we walked down the hall, on our way to the main gates. Lucas stopped, making Yiung and Mina do the same. “If you get more information, you should tell it to the school’s press. Who knows? Your story on Haechan could be a hit.”
I thought about it for a second. And for awhile I was starting to consider. I could simply put the author and Haechan as anonymous. It’ll send the school to an uproar, desperately wanting to know the identities of the people involved. On top of that, I missed the feeling of investigating and trying to gather information. It was something I did often as a writer for the newspaper. It felt good to have that surge of constant curiosity as more factors come to play the more you find out, and more questions that had to be solved slither out.
“I actually might consider it.” I said, the side of my lip rising just a little. I sent them off to the main gate and waved them goodbye. One thing I instantly realised was that I completely missed Haechan. I forgot to keep track of him and now I didn’t know where he was. I groaned silently as headed back in school. The first place I checked was his classroom. Of course he wasn’t there. Lights turned off, door and windows locked. Not a single person on sight.
The next place I checked was the music room. Lord and behold, he was there. Again sitting by the piano. This time, he was scribbling onto what I assumed was a music sheet. He was doing it in a rather furious matter, which got me worried for second. Suddenly, Haechan threw the pencil on the floor, screaming at the top of his lungs and slamming his head on the piano. Out of pure shock and instinct, I opened the door and ran up to him.
“Are you okay?! Why the hell you do that?!” I sat down the the empty space beside him and held onto his cheeks to lif his face up. His eyes fluttered open slowly, my hands feeling the warmth of his cheeks. “And what are you doing here again?” He said in a tired and hoarse voice. His eyes trailed downwards to my hands. For some reason, I didn’t let go. My hands were still against his skin which felt extremely soft. Something about this made my heart skip a beat. Why was I feeling this way? That for a split second my hands cupped his face perfectly, like were meant to be there.
“Having fun keeping your hands there?” Haechan broke me out of my thoughts with his words. I quickly pulled away, rubbing my palms on my shirt awkwardly. “You seem to always show up and meeting me here.” I gulped, avoiding eye contact as I tried to look everywhere else but him. “You seemed to be stress.” I said, making a poor attempt at changing the topic. I could tell from his soft and short breath of laughter that he knew what I was doing, but decided to go along with it mumbling a, “Yeah. I was.”
“With what?” Haechan didn’t give an answer. He blankly stared down to his lap before smacking his lips and jerking his head up to the music sheet thatw as propped up. “Just like how you write stories. I write songs. And just like you, my brain does not want to function at all to come up with something.” Haechan sighed ever so softly.
Silence settled in the space between us. We were simply there, not a word exchanged as I let his sink in. Were we the same? Though I find that hard to believe, I felt it. His struggle. I could feel it from outside the room moments ago. Haechan slowly brought his fingers up to the piano. Starting to press a key, he began to play.
Though I wasn’t a piano player or an expert in any way, it didn’t take me long to realise that he wasn’t comfortable sitting on this very piano, like how his fingers weren’t meant to make contact with the surface of the white, lagging and messing up a few notes that made whatever he played sound improper. He was out of place. Yet, the produced a beautiful twenty or so seconds of music. Despite the slip-ups, it sounded amazing. But he wasn’t playing with feeling. He was emotionless, stagnant.
“That’s all I have.” Haechan chuckled weakly. I frowned. “It sounded fine.” I whispered softly, eyes not leaving his fingers that rest itself on the keys. “Fine, but not great. Not meaningful. I didn’t feel anything while playing that. And that’s the worst part of it.” Haechan was biting his lower lip. His eyes were being welled up with tears. He quickly wiped them away.
“Don’t cry. I’m not the type that knows how to comfort people.” I laughed softly, trying to joke around to lighten the mood. Haechan responded with a small laugh, making me smile with sincerity. “It’s fine.” He simply said.
“I get what you mean. I’ve been feeling that too. Got the general idea but never know where to go from there. The creativity’s run out and I’m left with nothing. I’ve lost the urge to do what I love most.” I fiddled with my fingers on my lap, head tilted down. The room got quiet instantly. We were just sitting there in silence, deep in thought as we let ourselves sink into our complicated yet somehow similar situations.
How did I even up here? Sitting down and having a deep conversation with Haechan. Why was I feeling the connection with him? The connection of similarity as we felt each other’s pain. How did it only take one observation of Hechan playing for me to see the emptiness and hole that dug around him? I came here wanting to know his hidden secrets, digging into his weird behaviour beyond the light that he always stood in. But I guess there were aspects of him that were more hidden, and he chose to show this side to me.
It’s funny how we opened up to each other, not knowing each other at all. We were practically strangers. People that we only see as we walked by very occasionally. We weren’t someone that would be engraved in our minds the moment we saw each other. But it probably gave us a sense of escape, thinking that it was better for us to open up to someone who barely knew us so they wouldn’t judge who we were. I guess that was more coherent for Haechan.
Our class was the first few to arrive at the cafeteria since our English teacher is one of the very few that releases us on time. I decided not to have lunch since I didn’t feel like eating. Or maybe I was but too lazy to get any food. Only a few hours of school have passed and I was already walking like a dying corpse on my way here. I looked down and used my phone, continuing the read the online book I just purchased recently.
Suddenly, a bunch of high pitched wailing and shouting was heard. I tilted my head up and followed the noise. I expected it. Haechan, walking into the cafeteria, confident as ever, owning it all. He had such a bright smile. It’s as if the deep and lost Haechan I saw just yesterday disappeared entirely, a simple ‘poof’ and it’s gone by the wind. He waved to his other friends at the table which was just a few tables apart of ours with excitement, walking with long strides. I couldn’t believe just how thick Haechan’s mask was. After seeing him yesterday, I couldn’t help but wonder so long how those two completely different sides of him become one in his being. It was hard to picture. It was such a drastic difference that it became too hard to visualise it in my head.
“Look at Jaemin being all flirty with her.” Mina came up from behind and gagged as she jerked her chin to the direction I was looking at. However, I adverted my focus from Haechan to Jaemin. A girl was standing very closely behind Jaemin, occasionally trailing her fingers in a teasing manner down his shoulders. Jaemin bobbed his shoulders, shooting a glare that luckily she didn’t notice. However, he turned around and quickly flashed a soft smile to cover up his annoyance towards her. His action made me laugh and chuckle softly. “I don’t think he’s enjoying it.”
“Just how can he look so normal after what he did? I still can’t believe it.”
“What are you talking about?”
I grew silent, not wanting to explain the situation I had with Jaemin. It was a far distant memory which should be kept out of my mind and away from me, something I wouldn’t have the courage to face. I was over it, but I’d never want to encounter it again. It’ll send me down the loophole again, and that is something I’d much prefer not to remember and go through again.
Lucas raised a brow. “Hello?” He asked, trying to get our attention. Mina cleared her throat after swallowing her bite of food. “Ah you weren’t here when it happened. It’s fine. We shouldn’t be talking about it.”
“It’s a story for another time.” I lied, blurting it out.
I looked down to my phone once again as the our table grew quiet and ate in peace. As if thrown an asteroid was thrown from space, an object went flying to the side of my head, hitting it hard. It didn’t hurt that much, but it was so sudden that I couldn’t help but wince from the attack. “What the hell was that?!” I half-shouted, my brows furrowed with confusion, scrunching up my face as I picked up the object that landed beside me.
Everyone had their heads up and towards me with looks of concern. “Are you okay?! What hit you?” Yiung brought her hand up to caress my head softly where it hit. I brought the object up to my face. “Pack of grapes...?” I whispered, blinking my eyes rapidly. I scanned my eyes around the area near me, wanting to know who threw it at me. Oddly enough, Haechan had his head poking out from the table. He was looking at me, and urging me to look at the grapes. I shot him a weird look and trailed my eyes down to the grapes. It had a note.
“Why aren’t you eating? You still have detention later. See you soon.” I read the small note that was taped to the plastic wrapper to myself, mumbling. I lifted my head up to Haechan, noticing that he was already back to talking to his friends happily, laughing away. “Who threw you that?” Mina asked. I stared at the note for a moment, reading over his words and imagining his voice. I shake my head and looked back to Mina. “Must be a secret admirer.” I joked. They didn’t have a big reaction to this and continued with what they were doing with a shrug. I didn’t want them to know that I was getting close to Haechan.
Either way, getting free snacks was always a bonus. I didn’t hesistate to open the wrapper and plopped a grape into my mouth. Throughout the rest of lunch while shoving a grape into my mouth immediately each time I swallowed one, my eyes were glued to Haechan. Though he wasn’t fully visible due to his other friends crowding around him, it was as if he’s the only one in my view, with everyone else fading away.
I hadn’t forgotten my agenda. I still had to know more about Haechan’s secret that was about to unfold after I remembered that he was going to do something after detention later. If it’s going go help me write my story, I’d want to know as much as possible.
I made my way to the detention room, lazily opening the door. Haechan was seating somewhere near the back, deeply concentrated with writing something and wearing his Airpods. I looked over to the woman who laid back in her seat as she played with her phone. I nodded my head as I took in the situation, walking up to sit beside Haechan.
“What are you doing?” I asked Haechan while sliding the straps of my bag off my shoulders and putting it on my lap, only to find Haechan not hearing me at all as he continuously nodded his head to whatever song he was playing. I reached out to poke him on the shoulder with my index finger, making him flinch at the sudden action and removing one side of his Airpods immediately. He leaned back as he realised that he was looking at me. “Oh you’re here.” Haechan smiled softly, proceeding to continue writing. I moved my head a little to notice that he was writing notes again.
“Selling more notes? What are you, an illegal business?” Haechan responsed with a chuckle, placing his pen down and facing his body to me. “Perhaps I am. It’s not like I can get caught though.” He shrugged and placed a fist to his cheek, resting his head against it and leaning sideways. “But what did you get caught for?” I copied his posture, sending him a cheeky smile.
Haechan scoffed and shake his head. “Can’t say. How many times do I need to drum it in your head?” Haechan threw a sharp glare my way, exasperated. “If you don’t tell me, at least help me with my story.” I said, unintentionally sounding desperate as a slight tone of begging shined through my words.
“You really have lost your creative touch, huh?” Haechan faked his amusement. He already knew that from the time we were in the music room. “And you can’t write your songs either. So you’ve lost it as well.” I smiled grew bigger and more mischievous, giggling ever so softly. “If you want, maybe you can use the 3D printer to print a world of your imagination. And when you finish making it, it becomes a real place for you to go and release yourself from reality.” Affer unlocking my laptop and waiting for it to start up, I looked to him after he said that, but his eyes and hands were concentrated on making his notes.
“Is it because that’s what you want to do?” I asked softly, opening up Google Docs and seeing my long paragraphs of nothingness. It meant nothing. They were simply words to be displayed on the screen. I read it over while I waited for Haechan’s answer. It was bland, nothing like the ones that I wrote with much enthusiasm and drive. It disappointed me how I could stoop this low to such a level, to the point where I was slowly loosing interest in what kept up my sanity all these years.
“Shouldn’t you be asking yourself that?” Haechan stared into my eyes, pausing for a moment. “It’s your book that you’re writing. You need to make it personal somehow. You can’t always be relying on me as your direct source of idea.” I thought about it, long and hard, his words resonating in my head again and again as I tried to force myself to think deeper. “What if I can’t make it personal? What if I don’t know what’s personal to me, I don’t know who I am...” My two fingers played with the touch pad of my laptop, scrolling up and down mindlessly.
“Use my idea as inspiration. What can happen when you build and enter that fantasy world made by a 3D printer?”
“The entrance collapses and I get trapped there forever.” Haechan smiled. It was a small, almost transparent, but sincere smile, painted on his face. “There you go. You have a conflict to write about now.” I instantly typed down the information in point form so that I could elaborate on it. As much as I got the energy and adrenaline to start writing now, I wanted to focus on another matter. For some reason, I just wanted to know.
“How’s your song doing?” He avoided my eyes, licking his lips, seeming to be deep in thought, trying to construct a sentence. “I’m thinking of abandoning it to be honest.” Haechan said in a nonchalant manner. He can’t actually not be bothered by it. I saw it. His frustration, stress, the negative energy that centered around him in the music too. He can’t actually want to do that.
“But it sounded good.”
“I just need a fresh start. Who knows, I might come up with something better... Hopefully.” He dragged on the last part slightly, the tint of of doubt flowed through his unstable voice. He sighed loudly, pressing his fingers on both sides of his temples. “I’d ask for your help, but I’m guessing you aren’t exactly creative in this art form.” I nodded my head agreeably, though I felt the embarrassment.
“We’re going to be stuck here for a long time.” I said with a bored sigh, dragging on the word ‘long’ for emphasis. Haechan laughed at my statement. “I don’t think we’d have to stay here long.” I turned my head to him, an eyebrow arched. “Why’s that?”
Haechan pulled his chair close to mine and leaned in, close to my face. “We’ll get to go out once something to do. Which is what happens every day.”
Though I was listening, I couldn’t help but notice just how close Haechan was to my face. Too close, than a normal person would when wanting to whisper something. My heart began to race and my breath hitched in my throat. I looked at his eyes, ones that had so much emotions and feelings that can never be expressed, helplessly trapped, then to this nose, and finally his lips, soft and lushes, one that’s disconnected to his brain, inability to say what he thinks and needing to think twice to protect his reputation. Yet, it was all perfectly structured, carefully and beautifully, no matter how much he might be going through. I never realised how good looking he was till now. And it felt like a huge crime seeing it now.
“Are you hearing me?” Haechan whispered. I lifted my gaze from his lips and back up to his eyes. But it was now he who had his eyes down. I followed them, and they were on my lips. “Y-Yeah. I was.” Haechan instantly pulled away after a moment, chuckling awkwardly or shyly as he rubbed the back of his neck with one hand. “I don’t get the use of detention. It’s not going to change us, no matter how long we stay here for.”
“This school really doesn’t manage us properly yet our reputation is still high on the list.”
“Maybe it’s because of you and your friends.” I said, rolling my eyes and shaking my head. “Is a school’s reputation depended heavily on the looks of students?” Haechan scoffed, huffing as he ran a hand through his hair. “That’s shallow.”
“It’s the world we live in.” I simply stated.
“Oh, she left.” Haechan turned his head, and I followed along. The woman have left the room. I was shocked at the fact that we didn’t even notice. Haechan and I turned our heads to each other in unison, laughing. “Looks like we have the place to ourselves.”
Though you would think that we’d be going crazy and having a party of two while blasting music through the room’s speakers, the room was quiet. Haechan was silently listening to music while doing his notes and I typed away on my laptop, the satisfaction of the sound being produced at a fast rate. I wore my headphones too. I jumped and turned when I felt a tap on my arm.
“Hm?” I asked, taking off one side. “Should we just go?”
I paused for a moment with hesitation and contemplation, but it didn’t take long for me to blurt out, “Let’s please do so.”
We ended up going to the cafeteria. Haechan offered to buy me whatever snack I wanted. Was it bad to say that I am surprised at his generosity? It was weird in a way, I never thought of him as someone like he is now. If I could describe Haechan, he was like a book. One with a cover that was plain, unoriginal, stereotypical. You’d read the synopsis and think “The story plot is too expected.” But it’s not. The plot, characters and words change entirely, opening the reader to a whole new world that was definitely outside the box. And the more time I spent with Haechan, the more pages I flipped and read, new words and phrases pop up every which way. He slowly opened up, showing me that there was more to his all-rounded nature that he held.
“Why are we here at the garden when we can go in the library? I’m desperate for the air condition.” I walked beside Haechan and pointed to the library just a few steps away from the small garden we were headed. Haechan skipped his way down the pathway to the one bench table that was surrounded by plants and flowers.
“I like it here. Being surrounded by books can drive me insane.” I laughed at his comment, sitting down on the opposite end. I placed the snacks on the table, Haechan doing the same as we opened our snacks and took a bite in silence. “We should do this more often.”
“Do what?”
“This. Impromptu hangouts. It’s... fun, refreshing.” Haechan whispered, looking up and sighing softly with his eyes closed. He opened his eyes, locking them with mine as I hummed in response, still chewing. “Refreshing.” I repeated back to myself, nodding my head. “Actually... I have an idea. A present, if you will.” I took out my notebook from my bag, flipping through a few pages till I reached the page where it had notes. I placed it on the table and pushed it forward.
“In a way it’s a thank you gift. For helping me write again. You didn’t even say much but it made me think and turn my gears.” Haechan brought his head close to the notebook, his eyes scanning very slowly over each line. Haechan looked up, mouth opened but I decided to continue before he could say anything.
“At first my words were meaningless. The story was leading to nowhere and I had no idea where I was going, no road, no guidance. But you unintentionally, but also intentionally later on gave me ideas. A shoulder I could lean on, something I could depend on. I don’t think I have the need to dive in deeper into whatever shit you’re doing. I’ll respect the fact that you don’t want to share.”
“These are song lyrics...” Haechan whispered, holding to the edge of the page with his index and middle finger. He was completely silent and frozen, as if my words had hit him right in the heart like an arrow. “They’re... so me.” He said simply, a short chuckle leaving his lips.
“I noticed a few things about you. One, you really aren’t like what you seem to be. Living the perfect life with friends, grades, popularity. Everyone would think you had it all. I, however, started viewing you from a different angle, a new perspective. I didn’t even have to know what you hide to know that you’re transparent.”
“It shocked me, really. It sounds cliché, I know. But you are the one that has a cliché life.” Haechan and I laughed. “I don’t know what to say.”
“You don’t have to. It’s a trade. You to me, and me to you.” Haechan’s eyes lifted off the paper. We didn’t say a word. Instead, we let our eyes do the talking, the most bare and deepest sense on our expression. “Eyes are the gateway to your soul.” I really felt it. He was stripping me bare with his stare. Nothing was left to hide between us. And this all happened in the span of just a few weeks.
Time flew by in a blur. The thought of Haechan’s mystery that I delved so deep into became a distant memory. I never really got to know the truth. Maybe I was being too skeptical about it and perhaps it was just a simple matter that Haechan could not share. We went along with the pact of going on impromptu outings. One of us would text the other during the last period and go out immediately after school just to hang out and have each other’s presence to admire. We’d never talk in school. We wouldn’t greet each other if we walked by in the hallways. Our lives were completely separated in the school’s setting, as if we’ve never made a single contact, like our lives had never crossed paths. In simple words, strangers.
Today’s outing was at a cafe. We decided that this week, we’d travel around the city and go cafe hopping, visiting a new cafe and try out places we have never went to. I was utterly shocked when I found out that Haechan had never visited the cafe that I was extremely obsessed with. Despite the place being on the other end of town, the drinks and desserts are worth the trip.
“What would you recommend?” Haechan asked, the two of us looking at the menu above the counter while we sat down on the table. “I love their red velvet cheesecake. Oh! And caramel frappé.” I said with a happy giggle, tapping my feet in excitement as I already envision the delicious dessert on the table in front of me.
“You love cheesecakes that much?” Haechan gave an amused laugh. I nodded with a gleeful hum. “It’s my all time favourite dessert!” Haechan glanced down and shook his head, a smile shying through. “Get something else while I try the cheesecake. We need the variety.” Haechan pressed his fingers together as if pinching something, puckering his lips as he mimicked the popular meme. I bursted out laughing at his weird act. “Alright, alright. I’ll get the chocolate soufflé.”
I brought out my wallet from my pocket. Before I could even slide a note out, Haechan gripped my wrist and closed my wallet shut. He didn’t need to say a word, holding up his own wallet and jerking his head to it before turning around to walk away. I sighed, a slight frown forming on my lips. He’s always been paying. It always made me feel bad. I’d be at the edge on loosing all my money yet I’d still have that urge to pay.
Haechan was waiting by the counter for the food. He turned around. I abruptly locked my eyes with his, absentmindedly not realising that I had my eyes on his back the whole time. Haechan threw me weird and goofy faces to my way, quietly laughing while his shoulders bobbed. I shook my head, once again getting second hand embarrassment. Though it wasn’t a bad thing at all. It brought me joy from his weirdness and humour.
Minutes later he came back, carrying two plates and going back to grab the drinks. He sat down after and clapped his hand once, looking down at the food as his mouth shaped an ‘O’ at the sight.
We ate, chat and laughed. There wasn’t a moment of silence. Our conversation flowed as smoothly as the waves on a peaceful day at the seashores. We’d be able to change topics so quickly that we didn’t even know how we ended up talking about roller coasters at amusement parks.
“Should we go anywhere else?” I questioned. Haechan raised both his brows and leaned forward. “Anything you want.”
The two of us looked up at the sky, painted with shades and tones from red to yellow and hints of purple shining through. The beautiful sunset that we caught today was certainly lucky. It’s not everyday a sunset can look this incredible and perfect to the eye. It was one of those moments when you just needed to silently bask in the sight, embracing the comfort it brings you before the sun fully sets and the night starts to settle in.
I heard the sound of grass moving. I took my attention off the sky and to Haechan, who had his phone out and going to his camera. He snapped a picture, taking the time to position his phone and making sure it captured the whole scenery. He turned to me, a smile plastered on his face. “Moments like these should be permanent.”
I turned back to the sky, my chin lifted up and I took in a deep breath, eyes closed, taking in every ounce of calmness and relaxation. I suddenly heard the sound of Haechan’s phone, signalling that he took a picture. I fluttered my eyes open, looking over to Haechan who had his phone faced to me.
“You are something that should be permanent too.”
As days inched closer and closer to exam week, Haechan and I started meeting less and less, which was to be expected. I was holed up in my room, getting on my study table immediately coming home after showering and having a light snack, not having a break till it was time to sleep.
The stress settled in, and I had to put off my writings. I wasn’t a genius who could multitask to such extremes. I’d eventually go insane. Though I already am with the amount of content I had to fit in my brain.
Knocking down one day at a time, exam after exam, we finally ended the week. It feels the same with every end of the year exams. You’re just stuck in that loop of studying and screwing your heads into textbook and notes. But once it’s all over, you go into complete shut down mode and your brain will grow rusty and not as functional and efficient over the holidays. And the cycle repeats once you start the new school year.
Funny enough, Haechan and I stopped going out together. You’d expect us to meet all the time due to the free time we’d have during the holidays. But for some reason we jusy didn’t contact each other. Maybe we were too concentrated with our studies that not having Haechan by my side became something neutral. I didn’t feel anything about it. It is what it is. We drifted apart, with no reason whatsoever.
I was laying down on my bed, thumb tapping on the screen at a fast rate as I skipped through everyone’s stories on Instagram. However, I immediately stopped when I got to Haechan’s stories. My thumb was pressed hard on the screen as I saw Haechan’s face. He was out with his friends, seemed to be like a party. I chuckled to myself in amusement.
Was Haechan just my dream? Just a short period of filled happiness that wouldn’t stay with me for long? Was he temporary? The moments I’ve spent with him flashed by me like a movie tape that lasted in a second. I overlooked at myself, my situation. I was helplessly staying at home. Being the homebody I am, I never really go out unless someone invited me to. Haechan’s out living his life, back to being the all-rounder, as if I’ve never been in his picture ever.
Months passed since school has started, and we never made contact since. We wouldn’t even smile to each other in the hallways. We were invisible to each other. We were back to simply being strangers. We were never in each other’s lives. We have never opened our hearts to each other. It felt like none of that happened, like none of it was even real.
The bridge made by Haechan that helped me to get back on track in my writing was still there, but the work he did to build it felt like nothing. Just like how no one remembers the fact that it was the workers that worked hard to build and construct the bridge. It just never came to mind anymore.
I just got home. Making my way to my bedroom and tossing my bag at the study table, plopping onto my bed and sinking my body into the soft sheets. I turned around, back on the bed as I took out my phone. The first notification I saw was a text from Haechan.
I instantly sat up from my laying posture, eyes narrowing to his name showing up on my lockscreen. I had to unlock my phone to see the message. I was blankly staring at it. Why did I suddenly feel nervous? I opened my phone, which immediately brought me to iMessage.
Haechan: if you’re free, text me and head to the Winstar park
I tilted my head at this. I gulped, bringing my thumbs up to the screen. However, it was hovering over the key pad, not sure of what to type. I realised that I was being too cautious as if I needed to make a good impression through the text, when all I had to do was type a simple, “Sure. Meet you in an hour.” I exhaled sharply and got off my bed. I tossed my phone on the bed and started to get ready to head out.
While I stared out to the window on the bus, the city came to view. High skyscrapers, high end shops and buildings, bustling and busy as ever. But the bus drove past it. Immediately the scenery changed. It was quiet, not a lot of people to be seen. Only the sound of leaves and branches swaying in the calm wind.
Perhaps that’s why Haechan and I liked the park so much. The silence it held gave us a moment of distraction out of our lives filled with much complexity and complication. Our time together wasn’t energy draining. We had each other to thank for that, but it was also the absence of the fast moving pace of the world that gave us a time of rest, peace. Even if it was for a short period of time, the feeling is still there, though it’s being suppressed by other by our realities.
I came walking through the park’s entrance. My legs walked me to where Haechan and I used to sit when we last came here. I didn’t even have to think for my body to be drawn to him. His back came to view. He wore a black leather jacket and jeans. His brown hair glowing under the sunlight.
On one end, I felt the need to just run up and embrace him fully. It felt like a calling, a sudden need. However, I also felt hesitant to even take one step closer. What if we weren’t as close as we used to be? What if the Haechan I knew isn’t in front of my eyes right now? Anything can happen within the span of months. People change.
That dilemma and contemplation made me stand in my spot for far too long. I couldn’t keep my eyes off Haechan as my gears began to turn, more doubts floating up from the depths of my overthinking. What I didn’t notice till now was the fact that he had a guitar case beside him.
I shut my eyes for a moment, hands clenched tightly by my sides as my chest puffed up while taking a deep silent breath. Just do it.
I tapped Haechan on the shoulder lightly, making him jump and turn around. “You took forever.” He said, flashing a smile. At least that didn’t change. It still sent butterflies fluttering in my stomach like it did last time. It made my heart ache in the best ways possible.
One look in his eyes and a whole tsunami of our memories came crashing and attacking my mind and heart. It flashed through my eyes. Every little moment, though it may seem meaningless to some, was what made my whole relationship with Haechan gain its meaning.
“Sorry about that.” I simply said. He placed the guitar case on his lap, motioning with his free hand to take the empty space next to him. I sat down, the two of us met with comfortable silence for about a minute.
“How was your exams?” I asked, not being able to handle the fact that we weren’t talking. “Great. Except for Chemistry. I can never do it.” He chuckled, shaking his head while smiling to himself on the floor. “Could’ve asked me. I aced it.” I bragged, flipping my hair with much sarcasm which made him arch a brow. “I could have. But I didn’t want to bother you.”
“At that period of time, I wished you had bothered me.” I bit my bottom lip. His eyes narrowed down on me. “Really, now?”
Haechan’s phone suddenly dinged. He took it out of his pocket. With one glance he scoffed loudly and shoved it back in. I gave him a weird look. “Just another girl texting me. It’s the fifteenth this week. I’m lazy to delete their messages.” Haechan shrugged lightly.
“Anyways, I asked you to come here for a reason.”
“You never did anything without a reason.”
“But you do. Always showing up coincidentally at where I’m at.”
“That was last year. Stop talking about it.” I punched Haechan lightly on his arm as the two of us giggled in unison. I missed this. Why did I have anything to fear? It felt as if we’ve met up just yesterday.
“You’re going to be the first person who hear this. And for your information, you should be thankful. When an artist plays their song for the first person to hear, it means that they value them a lot.” Haechan whispered after his laughter died down. Slowly, he took out his guitar from its case. He placed it on his lap. It fits and settled right on his lap perfectly.
I pressed my hands on my thighs as I waited for him to adjust a few things on his guitar. Looking up, I noticed the shades of orange and yellow coming into view. The sunset, again, was just as beautiful as last time we were here. It really did feel like nothing has changed, as if that very day had repeated itself and teleported me to this very moment.
I heard Haechan strumming the guitar once, making me turn to him instantly. He took in a deep breath, eyes closing for a moment for looking down on the guitar and placing his fingers on the right strings.
He began to play. The strum pattern was simple yet calming. Then came in his voice. True enough, I’ve never heard him sing, ever. To hear his voice washing over me like a huge wave, I felt the goosebumps on my arms, my face tightened and my breathing stopped for a moment. His voice was beautiful. It’s one that you can listen while you fall asleep. The perfect lullaby.
I noticed how he sang the lyrics I made with very little knowledge of lyric writing, yet it still sounded as if it was made by him. He made those lyrics of mine his own with his voice. I smiled softly as we looked to each other, he sang his heart out, full of emotion and love. His talent, passion, everything came up to the surface with just a short song. He ended the song with “This world is better with you around.” Which hit an arrow right on my heart. My heart ached in the most best way possible. The feeling of my heart sinking as I tried to absorb all that beauty.
“So do you like it?”
My words were at a lost. I had no idea what to say, what to think. The mixed emotions surrounded around me like a whirlpool. I had a lot of things to say, but I also didn’t, not having a clear idea to speak about. He probably noticed me simply being awestruck, retrieving his eyes back to the sunset that was already about to come down and welcome the night sky.
“That was my gift to you. I’m sorry, for not talking to you for so long. For a moment I thought you were just my escape, someone that could give me freedom whenever I wanted. But I didn’t forget you, I couldn’t.” Haechan exhaled sharply, a frown forming on his lips.
“I was able to find my way back to my love for writing songs, singing. I didn’t have to knock my head against the wall trying to figure out what lyrics to write. I was stuck and I thought I had hit a dead end. I know you’d be thinking I just gave you lyrics. But what I’m thankful for was the fact that the lyrics matched me so well. It’s as if you dug out all the thoughts that were shoved and hidden at the back of my mind. Like you knew me inside out.”
Haechan turned his head slowly to me. I opened my mouth, but no words could come out. They were all stuck in my throat. “I... I don’t know what to say.”
“You don’t have to. You’re part of this gift exchange is your book. I mean I don’t like reading but I’d love to read yours. Me to you, and you to me.”
So, did I ever find out about Haechan’s secret? No, not at all. Turns out it was all a lie he came up just to play with me. The more important thing is the fact that I finished writing my book.
The deformed all-rounder; the story of transparency and the lost that was to be found. It all started when a 3D printer came to doorstep of a boy. He didn’t know what it was used for but he knew how 3D printers worked. But this one worked, quite uniquely. It could made things you thought weren’t possible, like a world.
So he made his own. One that was filled with happiness and joy, no fear and negative energy to be found. It was his own little world, what he wanted his reality to be. He went in, and though he enjoyed the days there, his heart shattered to pieces when the door back for reality crumbled down. He was trapped in a world filled with too much joy and glee. It was suppose to be a place brightness and everlasting greatness. But it didn’t feel anything like that. It was lonely. He eventually grew crazy due to the overdose of seeing butterflies and rainbows every which way.
Then came a girl who was the complete opposite of this world. Dark, mysterious, anger. Every negative feeling you could think of all in one person. The contrast between her and his world was drastic. How did she even end up in the world? Beats him. But she came strolling in with the most stuck up energy ever. It irritated him, of course. They never got along.
But slowly and surely, through harsh times of trying to get along with each other, they accepted the drastic difference. The world that revolved around the boy now began to take notice of this unknown girl’s personality. Further down the road, he realised that they were the same, a balance of good and bad. That was the reason why the gateway crumbled. There was no balance, no give and take of between the light and dark. With that solution, they were able to get out of the world.
He wanted to crush the 3D printer, never wanting to face it again so that he wouldn’t have to go through whatever that had just happened. However, he chose not to. Because it housed the memories of him meeting the girl that changed him entirely. His reality was a whirlpool of mess and obstruction, his printed world was seemingly perfect and filled with all things lovely. He could travel between the worlds, but there would be no point to it. As much as he could assume the world he made was perfect, he knew it wasn’t. It was made by a human. And humans were never perfect. She helped him see that there were bound to be rough edges, some only digging deeper than others.

Teachers Pet- chapter 9: stuck
All chapters
chapter 8
I woke up with the sunlight in my eyes that was shining through from the window that my roommates had conveniently left open. I haven't really gotten to know them all that well, and they haven't made any effort to get to know me either, which I was kind of glad about, I didn't really think I would get along with them, but they were nice. We have spoken a few times but only when we first met and when necessary. I sat up out of my bed and looked at my clock on my nightstand, 6:45am as usual. My body had kind of gotten used to my schedule.
I got out of bed and took a quick shower and got dressed, waved my wand to dry my hair, and applied some makeup. I put on my robes and grabbed my bag, tucking my wand into my skirt. I headed down to the Gryffindor dorms to wait outside the common room for Hermione, we would always walk to breakfast together and meet up with the boys there. I stood against the wall checking my watch to see it was already 7:30 and Hermione still hadn't come out yet. Just then Harry and Ron came walking out. "Hey guys where Hermione?" I asked, tapping Harry's arm. "Oh she uh went to the library to study this morning" Harry responded smiling. "Oh yeah she told me to tell you that, sorry" Ron apologized. "Oh that's ok no worries i'll just go meet up with her."
I walked into the library and found Hermione at a table and plopped down in the chair across from her. "Hey, why are you here so early?" I asked, getting some books out, figuring I'd study with her. "I was busy yesterday and I forgot to do Snape's essay." she said as she continued writing. "Holy crap! I totally forgot too" I said, hurrying to get the paper and my potions book out. "How was your detention with him?" she asked not looking up from her essay, wow she's very good at multitasking. "Oh yeah I actually wanted to talk to you about that, so he made me do some basic tasks, but I got the balls to ask him for extra help." she looked up at me with a shocked face "Yup, and we made a deal, he will help me during lunch and after dinner on Tuesdays and Thursdays in exchange for helping him grade papers and doing any cleaning around the classroom." I said smiling. "Wow he really cheated you" she said laughing and returning to her essay. "Yeah it's a bit much but i'll do anything for the extra help" I said beginning to work on my own essay. By the time it was 1st period I had only finished half of it and I knew I wasn't gonna have any more chances to finish. So it was just gonna need to be turned in half way done, it's better than late in Snape's eyes.
I finished Lunch and headed to DADA, definitely not looking forward to dealing with Lockhart. He definitely was favoring me in his class, and I really didn't know why, I was guessing it's because I was Dumbledore's goddaughter and he wanted to be in his good graces, so I just ignored him when I could. I walked into class and sat in my usual spot next to Harry and Ron awaiting Lockharts instructions. "Ok class today we will be working on the Petrificus Totalus spell, It's rather simple and can be found on page 15 of your textbooks, does anyone know what this spell can do?" he asked looking around the room, Harry slowly raised his hand. "Mr. Potter" "Um I believe it can temporarily freeze someone's body." he said unsure. "Yes, very good!" I nudged Harry's arm and smiled at him mouthing 'good job'. "Now for this you will be needing partners so pair up!" He said smiling and waiting. Everyone scrambled around the room and Harry, Ron, and I just looked at each other not knowing what to do. "Who should we pair up with?" Ron asked worried "I don't want to get stuck with someone I don't like" he added looking fearfully around the room. "Ms. L/n!" I heard Lockhart say and I turned to him raising my brow in question. "Why don't we pair up and I can show a demonstration to the class hmm?" he asked. I looked back at Harry and Ron and they gave me apologetic looks. "Ok sure" I said walking over to him. "Ok class now that everyone has a partner Ms. L/n has volunteered to allow me to demonstrate on her." wait what?! I thought, my eyes widening.
I'm the student shouldn't I be the one that needs to be practicing on you? And I did NOT volunteer, I thought to myself. "Now watch closely, y/n, darling, face me." he said, I had to keep from vomiting at the pet name he used. I turned to face him and stood there awkwardly. He raised his wand and winked at me, I cringed and got ready. "Petrificus Totalus!" he yelled, and sure enough I couldn't move and I fell directly back on the floor. I could look around but no matter what couldn't move a muscle. The class clapped and cheered for him and I could tell he was drinking it up. "Ok class now you try with your partners and take turns!" he said as they scrambled to try it themselves. Uh helloooo? Are you gonna unfreeze me? I thought as I made eye contact with him from the ground. He looked at me and smiled and then looked at the students and then back at me. He walked closer, leaning over me and I grew a bit scared but mostly angry he was keeping me in this state. "You did excellent, I could almost keep you like this, to set a good example to my other classes of course." he said retaining eye contact, he was like one foot away which was not enough personal space for my liking. I looked out of the corner of my eye and saw Harry freezing Ron and smiling, he then looked my way and saw my eyes looking for assistance from the floor. He did a wait sign to Ron and spoke up rather loudly, "Um Professor how do we undo the spell?" he asked, even though I know he knows it's in the book, we also both knew Lockhart would take any chance to speak and be the center of attention. He stepped away from me and looked in Harry's direction. "Ahh yes Mr. Potter excellent question, you can either use the counter spell Finite or Reparifors" he said smiling.
Great so demonstrate that and get me off the fucking floor! Instead he acted as if he simply forgot I was still on the floor and walked to help other students. I heard Harry speak the counter spell and unfreeze Ron and then he walked over to me. He smiled over me "Need some help there?" he said, teasing me "Reparifors!" he whispered and suddenly I was able to move again, he held out his hand to help me off the floor and I got up to brush myself off. "Thank you so much that was awful" I said smiling at him. "Mr. Potter! Get back to your partner, I did not give you permission to cast spells on every single student!" Lockhart said storming over to Harry and I. "I'm sorry Professor you forg-" "Petrificus Totalus!" I said interrupting Harry, my wand aimed at Lockhart. He froze up and fell to the ground and the class all looked over and laughed a bit, except for some of the girls who thought I was being disrespectful. "Nice." Harry said high fiving me. Just then the bell rang and everyone quickly filed out of the room.
I walked over to Lockhart and stood over him just as he did me. "Sorry for the shock Professor, but I needed to practice before class was over, since I spent most of it on the floor." I said with a sarcastic smirk. I went to my table and collected my things and walked back over to him. I murmured the counter spell and he quickly got up off the floor. "Who do you think you are?! You can not just hex teachers at your leisure!" I just stood with a tired look on my face. "Well I would suppose that would go the same for students! Now if you'll excuse me I need to get to potions!" I said aggravated and began to walk out. "Not so fast Y/n. Detention with me tomorrow afternoon at 7:00!" he yelled. I stopped and looked at him. "You can't do that!" "I just did, now get out, I'll see you tomorrow!"

Season 2, Episode 1: Omega (Part Two)
once again here’s the masterlist if you’re interested!
Pairing: Stiles x Psychic! Reader
Notes: lydia is finally back guys!! I’ve missed her sass the last few episodes & things are going to start heating up just bare with me for these first parts!
————————
I stared through the glass double doors in front of me, watching people go about their lives like it was just any other day. To them, it was. But for me, simply standing on this property was raising my anxiety.
I hadn’t been at the school since winter formal, when my life had gone from slightly complicated to completely fucked up. I felt ready yesterday, and this morning, and on the way here. Now that I was standing in front of the entrance, though, I was starting to doubt myself.
“You know what, it’s too soon.” I rolled my eyes at Stiles as he whipped around and gripped my shoulders before trying to walk me backward. “We should just turn around. Get you back in bed. Try again next week.”
I sighed and brushed his hands away. “I can’t be a hermit for the rest of my life.”
As much as I wanted to go back home, I couldn’t let myself hide from the world any longer. I’d have to live my life again eventually. Plus, I had a shit ton of late work piling up, because apparently being bitten by a werewolf isn’t a good enough excuse to miss school in Beacon Hills.
“No, of course not.” Stiles scoffed, twitching his eyes at me before glancing back to the school like it had personally offended him. “Just another week or two.”
I rolled my eyes again and brushed past him, feeling a sudden urge to just rip the band-aid off. I gripped one of the handles in front of me and threw the door open, instantly cringing at the loud noises that assaulted my ears.
I hesitated before the threshold, uncertainty clawing at the back of my mind. This place had forever changed for me. It held this energy now, like what happened to Lydia and I was permanently engrained in the walls. With a deep breath, I forced my legs to carry me inside.
I almost immediately froze, waiting for my presence here to set off some unknown supernatural terror. A gentle hand at my back had me releasing a long sigh, my shoulders relaxing slightly as nothing bad happened.
“You okay?” Stiles peered down at me, his eyes rounded with concern.
Part of me wished that he wouldn’t worry so much. He had a long list of things keeping him up at night, and I didn’t want to be one of them. I hated that he looked at me like I was going to fall off the deep end at any given moment. It obviously came from a caring place, but that didn’t make it sting any less.
I nodded, forcing my lips up into what I hoped was a believable smile. “I’m okay.”
————————
“Alright. It’s causing me severe mental anguish to say this, but Jackson’s right. What if the next body part she steals is from someone who’s alive?”
Scott’s head tilted in our direction from his seat in front of us, but he didn’t have a chance to respond as Mr. Harris sighed from behind his desk at the head of the classroom. “This is a pop quiz, Mr. Stilinski. If I hear your voice again, I may be tempted to give you detention for the rest of your high school career.”
Stiles pursed his lips from beside me, tapping his pencil on the surface of our table as he leaned back in his chair. He’d been trying to talk about something he overheard when spying on his dad—no surprise there—since we sat down a few minutes ago.
“Can you even do that?”
“There it is again.” Mr. Harris smirked, getting an unhealthy amount of satisfaction from messing with Stiles. “Your voice. Triggering the only impulse I’ve ever had to strike a student. Repeatedly. And violently. See you at three for detention.”
Stiles jaw ticked in frustration and he gaped up front in shock. I heard snickering from behind us, and turned to send a glare at Jackson and Danny. It didn’t seem to phase them as they continued laughing at his expense.
“You too, Mr. McCall?”
I spun back around to see Scott peering at us over his shoulder with a grimace just before he faced Mr. Harris again. “No, sir.”
I put my hand over Stiles’ reassuringly as it balled into a fist on top of our table. Our chemistry teacher has had it out for him since school started. There was no real reason, he just seemed to hate him with a burning passion. He always treated him unfairly, doing the same to anyone who dared come to his defense.
Although it wasn’t the most appropriate time to bring it up, we needed to talk about what he heard. Kate Argent’s liver had been “misplaced”, as he said, from her grave. And there was only one person we knew that could possibly do something like that.
It had to be Lydia.
As much as I didn’t want her to be a bloodthirsty monster, the news had restored my hope that she was at least alive. We still needed to find her before Allison’s family, though, which was proving frustratingly difficult.
“Dude. Your nose...” Danny’s concerned voice fluttered to my ears and I couldn’t help but glance behind me to see what was going on.
I watched as Jackson looked between his hand, which was covered in a thick, black liquid, and the paper on his table. My brows pinched in confusion at the sight. That didn’t look like normal blood. The closest thing I could compare it to was the disgusting ooze that came out of Scott when he was shot with a bullet covered in wolfsbane.
Jackson suddenly bolted from his chair, the metal legs scraping against the tiles loudly. He cupped his nose and ran out of the room, his eyes wide with panic.
“Mr. Whittemore!”
He didn’t look back once as he disappeared into the hallway. I faced forward slowly, utterly confused by what I just witnessed. My classmates seemed equally as concerned, but eventually went back to their quizzes at the request of Mr. Harris.
My eyes trailed back to the paper in front of me, my fingers tightening around my pencil. If I thought it was hard to concentrate before, now it was nearly impossible. Aside from the fact that I didn’t know how to do a single problem, my mind was racing with questions. I couldn’t help but think back to last month, when Jackson was acting incredibly strange.
I chewed on my bottom lip and glanced toward the door at the back of the room. It was taking all the willpower I had not to chase after him to see what was going on. I forced my attention back to the quiz in front of me, squinting at the unfamiliar numbers and symbols.
Scott suddenly turned to glance at me over his shoulder, and whispered harshly. “Why is your heart racing?”
My leg started bouncing anxiously as my gaze swept back to the door. Stiles perked up beside me at Scott’s voice, his eyes flickering around my face in question. He seemed to figure out exactly what I was thinking and put a hand on my arm gently.
“Y/N, just leave it alone.” His voice rose in a quiet plea.
It wasn’t that I actually cared what happened to Jackson. But that whole thing was weird as hell and I couldn’t shake the curiosity bubbling inside me. If there was another supernatural problem brewing, I wanted to know before it got out of hand.
After another moment of hesitation, I jerked to my feet, unable to fight the urge to leave. Stiles’ hand tightened around my arm and Mr. Harris peered up over the rim of his glasses from his desk. Scott, still turned around, shook his head quickly with wide eyes.
Normally, I wasn’t the type to ditch class, but I really felt like I needed to see what was going on. It had gone past usual curiosity and moved toward an uncontrollable impulse.
“Ms. Y/L/N, do you have something to share?” Mr. Harris crossed his arms and leaned back in his chair, seemingly amused by my interruption.
Before I knew what was happening, my legs were carrying me toward the hallway. Instantly, the room erupted with hushed whispers. I heard a chair scrape loudly against the tiled floor just as I passed through the doorway.
“Sit down, Mr. Stilinski! If another student leaves my class, I will not hesitate to...” I didn’t catch the end of Mr. Harris’s threat as I made my way down the hallway quickly.
I could only assume that Jackson would’ve gone into the nearest bathroom, which was just down the hall. As soon as I turned the corner, all the air rushed from my lungs as I rammed into a hard chest.
I staggered back with a wince, rubbing at my shoulder as it throbbed in protest. My eyes trailed up the leather jacket in front of me until they landed on one of the last faces I wanted to see right now. Or ever, honestly.
“God, what the hell are you doing here?” I breathed, narrowing my eyes suspiciously at none other than Derek Hale.
Nothing good had ever followed seeing him in places he shouldn’t be. And he definitely should not be here.
“Aren’t you supposed to be in class?” He quirked an eyebrow at me and crossed his arms over his broad chest.
I scoffed, his concern very much not appreciated. “Aren’t you supposed to be graduated?”
His lips pulled into a frown as his icy blue eyes trailed over me from head to toe and I took a moment to do the same. I hadn’t seen him since the night he killed Peter, but he didn’t look any different, despite moving up the werewolf food chain. When several seconds passed and he still hadn’t said anything, I stepped to the side to brush past him with a roll of my eyes.
He instantly moved into my path, blocking the doorway to the men’s bathroom in the process. “What do you think you’re doing?”
I glanced from him to the closed door, trying to think of a believable lie before I remembered that I didn’t owe him a damn thing. Including an explanation. “Checking on something.”
“Go to class.” He quipped, standing firmly in place.
“You do realize that I’m not a part of your pack, right?” I huffed out a humorless laugh, moving to walk around him again. “Just because you’re an alpha now doesn’t mean have any right to order me around.”
Somewhere along the way, I’d grown out of my fear of him. It didn’t really make sense, considering the fact that I watched him murder his own uncle only a few days ago, but here we were regardless.
He didn’t budge an inch, the corner of his lips twitching upward in amusement. “Who’s pack are you a part of, exactly?”
My jaw clenched at the unspoken meaning behind his words. It was something I’d been wrestling with since being bitten. I still didn’t know much about the supernatural world and all it’s rules. Was I in Scott’s pack? Or Peter’s?
I squared my shoulders and cleared my throat, trying to appear as self-assured as possible. While he was here, I may as well ask something else that had been weighing on my mind. “Speaking of being an alpha now...did you happen to gain any knowledge about how to reverse whatever your psychotic uncle did to me?”
“Sure you want me to answer that?” His eyes trailed over my face slowly, as if studying me. I raised my eyebrows expectantly, and he sighed. “You’d have to ask the one that bit you.”
My heart skipped a beat at his words. I sputtered silently for a few moments, panic quickly rising in my chest. He couldn’t possibly be insinuating that Peter was still alive, right? Right?
“What is that supposed to mean?” The question fell from my lips in a jumbled rush.
“When an alpha turns someone, they have a sort of...connection.” He drawled, as if this wasn’t life-altering, horrible information.
It was quite literally my worst fear at the moment to be connected in any way to Peter Hale. Not only did he royally fuck up my life by biting me, but he killed countless people along the way and somehow made Lydia disappear without a trace. All without a lick of remorse. He was evil in its purest form.
“Even after death?” I prodded, mostly wanting him to confirm that he was, in fact, six feet under.
“Especially after death.”
My eyes widened in alarm. What the hell did that mean? I parted my lips to bombard him with questions, but froze at the sound of an anxious voice from behind me.
“Y/N, what the hell are you doing?” I spun on my heel to see Stiles jogging toward me with his hands thrown up in exasperation. “You can’t just walk out of class. Mr. Harris is like seriously pissed.”
I just stared at him, waiting for a moment of realization that never came. “Didn’t you just do the same thing?”
“Well, that’s different. Because—you know what? Don’t go pointing fingers at me when you’re the one being weird. Why did you do that?”
“I was just talking to...” I turned, my brows furrowing as I saw that Derek was no longer standing behind me. I spun back around to face Stiles, stiffening at the look he was giving me. His lips were set in a firm line, his narrowed eyes slightly darkened with frustration.
“Y/N, you’re supposed to be...” He sighed, as if rethinking whatever he was about to say. “Just. Come on.”
He extended a hand out toward me, and I stole one last glance at the bathroom door behind me before taking it, not really wanting to leave my questions unanswered but having no other choice. I let him guide me back to our class, but made a mental note to keep an eye on Jackson from now on.
————————
“Are you sure you’re okay?”
I sighed into my locker, shoving the last of my books inside. “Yes, Allison. I’m still fine. Just like the last five times you asked.”
She sent me a sheepish smile and popped her own locker open, rummaging inside for a moment before pulling out a dress covered in a protective plastic.
While all of my friend’s concern was appreciated, it wasn’t helping with the whole trying to be a normal human thing.
“No, it was her aunt.” A hushed voice from across the hall had both of us turning to see what was going on.
Two girls stood against the lockers just a few feet away, and quickly averted their eyes when we made it obvious that we’d heard them.
“The one that murdered all those people?” One of the girls leaned toward her friend and failed at whispering again.
“You mean the crazy bitch that killed all those people? The fire, the animal attacks, it was all her.”
I let my eyes sweep back to Allison, and watched as she slammed her locker shut with a tight jaw. The local newspaper hadn’t been kind to the Argents once word of Kate’s death came out. The sheriff’s department easily connected her to the Hale fire, and immediately ran with the idea that she’d been the one going around killing people.
It was both convenient and utterly untrue, obviously. I’m sure that even in his grave, Peter was more than happy to let her take the fall for his atrocities.
“Are you kidding? I sit next to her in English!”
“Find a new seat...”
The two girls snickered and walked away, either painfully unaware of their surroundings or intentionally being huge bitches. I let out a sigh and turned back to Allison.
“Are you okay?” I let my eyes flicker over her face as she sagged against her locker, her dress held beneath crossed arms.
“Fine.” She sent me a tight lipped smile. “They’re right. My family is crazy. It just sucks that now the whole school knows it.”
This is exactly why I didn’t want everyone worrying about me. Each of my friends had their own shit weighing on them. Allison was grieving someone she knew didn’t deserve it, Scott was dealing with Derek being an alpha, and there wasn’t actually anything going on with Stiles, but he was always anxious anyway.
“Nice dress.” Both mine and Allison’s attention moved to the locker a few down from ours at the unexpected voice.
It was a boy I recognized, but didn’t know the name of. I’d seen him around the school plenty, but hadn’t really crossed paths with him much. His dark eyes swept over Allison from head to toe slowly, sending a uncomfortable prickle up my spine. He looked nice enough, but there was something off about him. I just couldn’t place it.
“Nice camera.” She smiled awkwardly, complimenting the device he held in one of his hands.
Oh right, that’s where I’d seen him. He was always walking around with that thing, taking pictures for the yearbook or something. She turned back to me and furrowed her brows, seemingly just as weirded out as I was. I shrugged one shoulder and we made our way toward the exit.
We had a funeral to get ready for.
————————
Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.
Okay, so. I may have forgotten about my detention.
My legs bounced anxiously as I stared at the clock across the room. Stiles let out a slow breath from beside me, his lips twisting angrily as we both counted down the seconds silently. Mr. Harris sat at the front of the room, grading our quizzes from this morning. He’d barely looked at us since we arrived almost an hour ago.
He’d barked the punishment at me when Stiles and I returned to class and honestly, I was surprised he didn’t have anything worse in mind. Not that this didn’t still suck. We were supposed to be going with Scott to Kate’s funeral, although we’d have to hide somewhere within the graveyard since it was for family only.
Time seemed to slow as the seconds ticked by. Stiles held his breath and brought his hands up to squeeze the sides of his face as finally, the clock struck four.
We both bolted upright, only to immediately freeze at Mr. Harris’ curt demand. “Sit.”
“Wha—it’s been an hour!” Stiles threw his hands up in exasperation.
“My detention’s an hour and a half.” The edge of his lips twitched into a smirk as if he got some kind of sick satisfaction from torturing his students.
“You can’t do that.” I huffed, my jaw clenching in frustration.
At this point, we were already running late. The funeral was supposed to start at four thirty and I wanted to talk to Allison beforehand. So much for that, apparently.
“Oh, but I can.” He quipped, his dark eyes dancing in delight as they jumped from me to Stiles. “You see, Stiles...since your father was so judicious in his dealings with me, I’ve decided to make you my personal project. You’re going to benefit from all that strict discipline has to offer.”
I glanced to my fuming boyfriend beside me, the anger rolling off of him almost tangible. His nostrils flared as he worked his jaw, eyes never leaving the man who was steadily moving toward being the worst teacher ever.
I’d nearly forgotten the role he played in connecting Kate to the Hale fire. He’d apparently gone on a date with her several years ago, and detailed how to commit arson and get away with it. Why that wasn’t a red flag for either of them was beyond me. He also ended up recognizing a necklace with their family symbol on it that further helped solidify her guilt.
Let’s just say that Stiles’ dad hadn’t been kind in his sentencing after Mr. Harris kept that piece of information to himself until the last minute.
His eyes narrowed at us as if we were the bane of his existence, despite the fact that he was the one keeping us here against our will. “Now, sit down before I decide to keep you here all night.”
———————
Stiles and I scrambled toward the tombstone Scott was hiding behind, moving quickly to remain undetected. Luckily for us, all the attention was on Allison and her parents. There was an excessive amount of reporters surrounding the cemetery, shouting and taking pictures.
We peered around our hiding place as the three of them stumbled their way through the thick crowd, dodging each question that was yelled in their faces.
“Who the hell is that?” Stiles whispered from beside me, gesturing toward an older man that was talking to that weird guy from school.
My brows furrowed as I watched him inspect a large camera, which I’m assuming he took from our classmate, before taking out the SIM card and snapping it in half. The guy threw his hands up angrily and snatched his camera back from the smug man. His eyes suddenly flickered our way and we all ducked down quickly.
“Definitely an Argent.” Scott muttered, looking troubled by the idea.
“Hey, you know, maybe they’re just here for the funeral. What if they’re the non-hunting side of the family? There could be non-hunting Argents. That’s possible, right?” Stiles tried to sound reassuring, but it was obvious that even he didn’t believe the words coming out of his mouth.
There were two men with the older guy, both flanking his sides with nasty scowls on their faces. They were intimidating as hell, even from our safe distance.
“I know what they are.” Scott sighed and glanced at us over his shoulder, his eyes clouded with worry. “They’re reinforcements.”
Before either of us could respond, Stiles’ dad appeared out of nowhere. My breath caught in my throat at the sight of him stalking toward us, his face hard with anger. He gripped Scott and Stiles by the collars of their jackets and hauled them to their feet with a jerk. I scrambled upright quickly, eyes wide with panic.
We seriously couldn’t do a damn thing—even support Allison—without being caught or almost killed.
“The three of you.” Mr. Stilinski bit out through clenched teeth, his harsh voice hushed as to not disrupt the service. “Unbelievable. Pick up my tie.”
He sent me a pointed glare and I grabbed the discarded material hastily. I quickly trailed behind them as he shoved the boys toward his car, which was parked just outside the cemetery. He wrenched the back door open and practically threw them inside. I followed suit wordlessly, chewing on my bottom lip as my heart raced with anxiety.
My shoulders stiffened as the car door slammed shut harshly. Scott huffed in frustration and let his head fall back onto the headrest behind him. I glanced between him and Stiles nervously, but felt myself relax—if only slightly—as I saw that neither of them looked all that upset. I guess they were used to this sort of thing, with how much trouble they’d gotten into throughout the years.
He would probably just give us a lecture and send us home. I hoped, anyway. If he was in a bad mood, we could easily end up at the station for the night.
Mr. Stilinski plopped into the front seat with a long sigh. The radio on his dash went off loudly, a quick string of muffled words filling the tense air of the car. He pulled it free quickly, his brows pinching as he spoke into it slowly. “I didn’t copy that. Did you say four one five Adam?”
“Disturbance in a car.” Stiles instantly whispered, eyes flickering between me and Scott.
My brows rose in surprise at the fact that he knew the meaning behind the obvious police code. Although, at this point, I shouldn’t have expected any less. It was clear that he’d spent his entire life beside his dad, whether he was aware or not. He’d eavesdropped and snooped his way into knowing way more than any civilian ever should.
“They were taking a heart attack victim to the hospital, but on the way something hit ‘em.” The strained voice came through the walkie-talkie more clearly this time.
“Hit the ambulance?” The Sheriff’s voice rose with concern, the sound instantly raising my anxiety. It couldn’t be a good sign if he was worried.
“Copy that.” Stiles perked up from beside me and leaned forward, as if that extra few inches would help him hear better. “I’m standing in front of it now. Something got inside the back. There’s blood everywhere...and I mean everywhere.”
My heart skipped a beat, my chest tightening as panic surged through me. I glanced at Scott, and saw that he was already staring at me with wide, anxious eyes. My gaze swept toward Stiles, but he was busy watching every one of his dad’s movements.
“Alright, unit four. What’s your twenty?” He sighed, a little tense but otherwise surprisingly unfazed by what he’d just heard.
“Route five and post. I swear I’ve never seen anything like this.” The deputy was clearly freaking out, making me feel ten times worse.
It only took a split second of hesitation for the three of us to know that we were on the same page. We had to get out of here. Now.
Scott and I popped the doors open and we all tumbled out, instantly running toward the tree line just outside the cemetery. Scott led us through the woods quickly, muttering something over his shoulder about the location being nearby.
Along the way, I tried bracing myself for whatever horror we were about to find. My mind raced with worst-case scenarios as I struggled to keep up with Scott’s quick pace. It could’ve been Lydia, or Derek, or maybe another supernatural creature we had yet to meet. No matter what, I knew it wasn’t going to be pretty.
After a few minutes, Scott suddenly froze mid-stride. Stiles and I clambered to a stop to avoid ramping into him. My chest heaved as I struggled to catch my breath, my eyes roaming over the scene before us quickly as I tried to piece together what I was seeing.
There was the ambulance, stopped on the side of the road just beyond the trees. A man lay on the gurney inside, covered from head to toe in blood. My stomach churned with disgust as I took in the grotesque scene. There was no way the poor guy was still alive. My heart hammered painfully in my chest as I searched the area for any signs of Lydia.
“God. What the hell is Lydia doing?” Stiles breathed from beside me, eyes wide with alarm.
“Okay, we don’t even know if it—” My attempt at defending her caught in my throat as something tentatively emerged from the trees up ahead.
I squinted through the darkness, not quite believing what was in front of me. Without hesitation, I bolted toward the road. The earth crunched behind me as Scott and Stiles raced to catch up. I briefly glanced at Sherriff Stilinski as his disapproving gaze fell on the boys and I, but continued my path to the trees on the other side of the road.
“Lydia?” I called, gaze flickering over her nude form. She walked stiffly toward us, both arms up covering her chest. My mind raced as I processed what I was seeing.
It was definitely Lydia. And she was in one piece. All at once, I felt a wave of relief wash over me, followed instantly by overwhelming dread. She may be alive, but that didn’t mean she was unharmed. She’d undoubtedly been permanently changed by Peter’s bite and her week long excursion in the woods.
She looked dazed as her wide, unfocused eyes roamed the area slowly. I could see her body trembling from here, and was honestly surprised that she hadn’t gotten hypothermia by now. At night, the temperatures had been dropping to the low forties.
Her strawberry blonde hair was matted and covered in dirt, twigs, and leaves, a sign of her living conditions for the past week. Miraculously, she didn’t seem to be injured in any way. Although, it was hard to tell what was beneath the thick layer of grime covering her skin.
“Lydia!” I shouted, hoping to get her attention as I slowly walked toward her.
Her eyes instantly snapped upward. It looked as if she was coming to for the first time since disappearing. Her eyes rounded before flooding with tears as she visibly fought to steady her breathing. Her lips quivered as she became more aware of all the eyes that were currently on her.
“Well,” She gasped, her arms twitching in a sort of tense shrug. “Is anyone going to get me a coat?”

Oikawa x reader ch. 6
Oikawa jumped, spiking the ball in a vicious set across the net towards Matsuwaka, who grunted as he tried to receive. The volleyball spun to the left, hitting the wall and bouncing off, out of bounds.
“Great set!” I yelled, pumping my fists. Oikawa grinned widely, giving me a thumbs up. To most people watching the practice, the serve would have looked almost exactly the same as any other one. But I knew that there was a slight variation in the spin on the ball, making it much harder to receive, and giving the setter a lot more control over the direction the ball went. I had been helping Oikawa practice it for over a week, tossing him balls and cheering him on. It had taken a lot of frustration and whining, but the hard work was finally paying off.
Iwaizumi jogged up to me from the court, and I passed him a water bottle, which he took gratefully.
“How’s it going?” I asked, surveying the ace.
He shrugged. “Good. I think our offense has really been improving.” I looked up at him, analyzing his expression. “Iwa, are you ok?” The wing spiker looked momentarily surprised, and he awkwardly rubbed his neck. “Uh, yeah. I just have some stuff going at home right now, so I haven’t been as focused as I would like.”
I stood up, eyebrows lowering in concern. “If you want to talk about it, or you need help in any way, I’m here ok?”
Iwaizumi nodded, giving me a small smile. “Thank Y/n-chan.” Abruptly I reached out and hugged him tightly, feeling his muscles flex as he returned my hug a bit awkwardly.
“Hey!” Oikawa strode towards us, an odd look on his face. As I dropped my arms from around Iwa, the setter stopped in front of us. “Why don’t you ever give me hugs, Y/n-chan?”
I rolled my eyes and flipped him off, hoping my blush wasn’t showing on my cheeks. “Maybe you don’t deserve them.”
“You’re so mean!” He cried, and I bumped him with my hip.
“Both of you, get back to practice.”
“Oikawa!” I looked up to see a group of three girls standing in the stands above the court, waving at our setter frantically. I crossed my arms in annoyance, rolling my eyes as they all swooned when he waved back with a fake smile. I had realized very early on that Oikawa’s fangirls were one of the most annoying issues I ever had to deal with. They seemed to show up everywhere, wanting pictures or confessing their love at the worst moments.
The rest of the team hated them too, but they were used to the high pitched shrieks at this point and didn’t pay much attention. I, on the other hand, could barely resist marching up to the stands and sending all the dumb girls to detention on the grounds of disrupting official practice times. I had no idea how Oikawa dealt with it all the time.
The girls were still there after practice, and they intercepted Oikawa outside of the gym as Iwa and I walked with him to the student parking lot.
“Hi Oikawa-san!” One of the girls stepped forward, smiling prettily. “Do you have a second?”
I glanced at Iwaizumi who shrugged, and we continued walking, leaving Oikawa to deal with the girls. As we left, I heard him laugh at something the girl had said, and my heart stuttered.
This was why I refused to like him. He was ridiculous, a player, and completely out of my league. There was no way he would ever look at me like that, even if he did flirt a lot. Oikawa was someone who flirted with everything that moved, so I didn’t exactly count myself as special.
Iwaizumi and I had to wait only a few minutes before Oikawa caught up with us, a goofy grin on his face.
“Score, I got that girls number. She was pretty cute, huh?”
I pretended to look at my phone and didn’t answer.
✨✨✨✨
My first practice game as Seijoh’s manager was going well. We were playing against Shinzen high school, another academy in the Miyagi prefecture. They were decent, but not good enough to match up against us. Still, practicing against an actual other team had major benefits for us.
I cheered wildly as Watari picked up an excellent receive, and Oikawa set the ball to Shido, who slammed it over the net before the Shinzen players could stop it. They were doing so good. Was it possible that this year, we could actually go up against Shiritorizawa?
But then I froze, eyes focusing on Oikawa--or more specifically, his knee. I watched as the setter positioned himself, a slight limp in his step. His lips were flat, forehead wrinkled from pain. Had he re injured himself? “Coach, we have to call a timeout,” I said, quickly turning to him. “I think Oikawa injured himself again.”
I bit my lip nervously as the whistle was blown, my eyes carefully scanning our setter as he made his way towards the bench. He was definitely limping.
“Oikawa, how’s your knee feeling?” Coach Nobuteru asked, surveying the boy.
“I’m totally fine, coach. There was no need to call a timeout.”
I stepped forward, glaring at the captain. “Walk normal, right now.”
Oikawa blinked in surprise but did what I said, taking a few awkward steps. The second he put weight on his right knee, his jaw clenched and pain rippled across his features.
I pointed an accusing finger at him. “Why didn’t you say you were in so much pain? Pushing yourself will only make it worse!”
“I’m fine--”
“No, Y/n-san is right. You need to get your knee looked at right away.” Coach Nobuteru agreed with me. “You’ve played enough in this game. Y/n, why don’t you get him fixed up?”
Oikawa looked frustrated, but he followed me out of the gym in the direction of the nurse.
“How did you know it was hurting?” He asked me, voice slightly strained.
“You were limping. And I could also tell from your expression.”
“I--” He stopped, letting out a low grunt and I stopped walking.
“Oikawa? Are you ok?” I asked, fear flooding me.
“Y-yeah I’m good. Just hurts.”
I bit my lip, glancing at the building far in the distance. It would be a long, painful walk if I didn’t help. “Put your arm around me, I’ll help support your weight.”
Oikawa opened his mouth as if to protest, but I slid my arm around his waist before he could. After a moment, he relaxed, wrapping his arm around my shoulders and taking his weight off his right leg. He was heavier than I expected, but I straightened my back and gritted my teeth, starting to slowly walk in the direction of the medical center.
“Why didn’t you tell us your knee was hurt this badly?” I said, turning my head to look at him.
“I just...I didn’t want to let my team down.” He looked away from me, avoiding my eyes.
“Oikawa.” We approached the medical building, but I paused, staring at him. “You’re the best team captain and server Aoba Johsai could ask for. You can be smug, annoying, and competitive,” He let out a noise of protest at this, but I plowed on. “But you also care so much. You’re hardworking, and sweet, and smart, and the entire team knows that you’re doing beyond your best. Don’t put so much pressure on yourself.”
Oikawa stared at me for a long moment, his cheeks slightly tinted pink at the praise, and I cleared my throat. God, had I come off too strong? Did he think I liked him now?
I looked away quickly. “We should get a nurse to look at you.”
He opened his mouth to speak, but I led him inside before he could say anything.
The woman at the front desk jumped to her feet as Oikawa and I staggered in, calling for help and quickly coming over to Oikawa’s other side to help support him.
“What happened?” She asked, and I gave her a quick rundown of the game and the setter’s past knee injury.
“He must have re-damaged it again during the game.”
The woman helped Oikawa and I into one of the back rooms, where some medical supplies were laid out.
“I’ll go and get one of the nurses. It may take a little while, so you both can get comfortable.”
I nodded and thanked her, helping Oikawa into one of the chairs and kneeling by his feet.
“We should straighten out your leg,” I murmured, examining Oikawa’s knee. I had worked as a volleyball manager for almost three years now, so I knew the base information of knee injuries. Oikawa’s was particularly bad. “This is going to hurt.”
The captain of Aoba Johsai grabbed my hand, squeezing tightly as I used my other hand to ease his leg out into a straight position. He let out a short groan, and his head flopped forward, forehead resting against my shoulder. His smell wrapped around me, somehow clean despite the sweat from the game mixed in, and I had to remind myself that he was OFF LIMITS.
I couldn’t resist slowly touching his hair, petting his head while he rested against my shoulder.
“Y/n-chan, “ he whispered. “God, I--”
He stopped, and I let out a low breath. “Toru, everything will be ok. Your knee will get better, and we’ll continue to train, and you’ll beat Shiritorizawa and go to the spring nationals. Got it?”
He lifted his head up and looked at me, only an inch away. “Got it, new girl. I trust you.” He smiled, and I felt my cheeks flame.
Damn him.

Boggart
A/N: Here I am again! Another fic for you all. I have been that productive over the last couple of days that I have the inspiration to write (lets see how it long it lasts lmao)
Title: Boggart.
Pairing: Harry Potter x Reader
Summary: You face a boggart and the whole class sees what your worst fear is.
Requested: Nope.
Warnings: The reader has some pretty negative feelings through this. If that isn’t your thing, then that’s okay.
Word Count: 1.3k
Professor Lupin asks the class to repeat the incantation one more time.
“Riddikulus!” The class repeats.
“Very good, class. Neville, you first. For the rest of you, start thinking of what you fear the most and a way to bring laughter. After all, the only way to defeat a Boggart is laughter.”
The class gathered into a line, everyone thinking of their worst fear. You were stood in front Harry and Ron; you could hear Ron whispering to himself ‘take its legs off’ and you knew he was thinking of spiders. As for Harry, you couldn't tell what he was thinking of. He wasn't as obvious as Ron.
As for yourself, you knew what you feared most and you were dreading the line getting shorter and shorter. Before long, it would be your turn you the while class would see your worst fear.
You felt pathetic, truly, you did. Your worst fear was being rejected by the boy who lived. It had started out as an innocent crush; admiring from afar - you were in the same year, same house and had run in the same friendship group on more than one occasion. Your friends all laughed when you admitted to your crush but they soon understood that it was to become something more. Now, by Third Year, you’d argue that you were half in love with the boy you knew you had no future with. After all, you weren't remarkable or extraordinary. You were quite the opposite rather; average in all aspects other than your devotion to your studies, You rivalled Hermione Granger in that.
The Boggart had been defeated by the girl in front of you and it was now your turn. Cringing internally, you step towards the monster.
The Boggart starts to shift; starts to turn into your worst fear. Your hand is shaking as you reach for your wand; wanting desperately to say the incantation and be done with it.
The Boggart is fully formed now; taking the form of one Harry Potter. The class is silent; you can feel Harry’s alarm from behind you. It is obvious he’s confused but then the Boggart starts to speak:
“Who would love you? Why would I love you? You aren’t my type at all.”
It would be now or never; hand shaking, you lift your wand. You whisper the spell “Riddkulus.”
The Boggart continues to utter the horrible words; each one like a fresh cut to your heart and soul. The spell takes root though, and slowly the speaking becomes high pitched as if Boggart Harry had swallowed a helium balloon - and then he starts to swell, similar to what happened to his Aunt over summer.
Slowly, the laughter starts. Whether it is for the Boggart or whether they are laughing at you, no-one knows. Tears start to form in your eyes and you turn your attention to Professor Lupin who is stood at the side of the classroom watching you with a sad expression on his face; as if he recognises the self-loathing within. Your eyes beg a silent question and he nods; giving you permission to leave his classroom.
You turn, quicker than lightening, grab your things and almost sprint back to the Gryffindor common room. Your tears are flowing freely now. The common room completely empty, you take a seat in front of the roaring fire and put a hand to your mouth to stop the sob from escaping.
You feel a little foolish, truth be told. Sitting in front of the fire, crying over a boy you won’t even remember in ten years. It’ll be okay, you think, in a few days this will have blown over and no-one will remember it. they’ll have moved on to the next piece of news.
You’ve calmed down now; sobs shifting to sniffles. You're wiping your eyes on the sleeves of your robes when you hear a whisper:
“(Y/N)?”
You turn to see Harry standing there, looking quite lost, as if he doesn't know how to approach you.
“Are you okay?” He asks.
“I will be,” You answer, wiping your cheeks dry. “It’ll have been forgotten about by next week so I’ll keep my head down until then. I should apologise to you though.”
“Me? Why?”
“I think the last thing anyone ever expects is to be someone’s Boggart, Harry. I think the last thing you deserve, after everything you have lived through, is to be someone’s Boggart.”
Harry’s silent, trying to think of the right way to answer you. You are right, he never expected to be your Boggart. He never expected you to feel anything for him other than friendship. He’s been in love with you since the moment you supported Hermione when Snape made comments about her appearance. It had got you a week’s worth of detentions but you stood your ground and listed the reasons why Snape was wrong and Hermione was perfectly fine as she is. The fact that you stood up for his friends, when no-one else would dare to. Well, he fell head over heels for you then and there. Ron had a field day with that; for at least a week, he would nudge Harry when you came into the room and say “the love of your life has just walked in.”
“I’m really sorry, Harry. It must have been so embarrassing for you.” You whisper.
He’s pulled out of his thoughts by that. “It wasn't embarrassing.”
You snort, “Are you sure? I was pretty embarrassed.”
He nods, “ I’m sure. It was what Boggart me was saying that caught my attention.”
The colour drains from your face. You didn’t want to have to face this, not right now, not ever preferably. The logical side of you knew that you would have to and that it would be better to face it now than later but all you wanted to do was curl up in bed and spend the rest of the day there.
“Why would you think that about yourself?”
You take a deep breath, not really knowing how to confront this other than truthfully. “Honestly, a lot of the was because of how I see myself. I don't see myself as anyone remarkable or someone who is going to make an impact on society or the world. I’m an average witch from an average family. And on top of that, I’m half way in love with a boy who is going to change the world, and is more than remarkable and I can just see how it isn't going to work because how on Earth could someone like you fall in love with someone like me?”
“Pretty easily, actually, if you must know.” Harry states, bluntly, truthfully.
Your mouth hangs open, unsure if what you’ve heard is true, “What?”
“It was pretty easy actually. Someone like me, falling in love with someone like you.”
“You’re joking?” You ask, hoping that this isn't a joke.
“Definitely not. I’ve liked you for a while now. Ever since you defended Hermione and I saw the goodness of you. You are this wonderful person who is not only a fierce friend and protector but you are so smart. Hermione has mentioned a couple of times how she’s like to study with you. You are completely loveable, and I should know it, because I am. In love with you that is.”
“Oh my god,” You say, and the tears start anew.
Harry looks at you alarmed, “What? What’s happened?”
“Nothing. Nothing, I just never expected this to happen and I’m just really happy.”
“You are?” He asks, and you nod.
“Oh, good. So can I kiss you now?”
“Yes, you can.”
He leans in and presses his lips to yours. It’s a little clumsy, and it is slightly more wetter than it should be because of the tears on your behalf but it’s perfect.
You didn’t ever think a Boggart would be to thank for your love life.

Lost or Found - 5
Summary: As Jay, Hailey, Kim, Adam and Kevin start their junior year in the wake of a tragic summer, the past year of their lives comes back to haunt them. If you enjoyed Pretty Little Liars, this is for you! *UPSTEAD/BURZEK High School AU
...
5 - Wicked Game
...
The following days after the bonfire, the group didn’t really see much of each other. They were focused on watching out for the people they loved most. Hailey called both of her brothers everyday, Jay never let his mom out of his sight and Kevin spent every waking moment playing with his sister. Adam checked up on Kim multiple times a day, while she let her world revolve around her sister. The rest of summer went by fast in their state of panic, which is how they found themselves all huddled around Jay’s truck.
They all had a false sense of security, they hadn’t gotten any more texts since the last one. Hailey thought that Nadia knew that they knew it was her, so she was laying low, but Jay, he wasn’t entirely convinced. Nadia was the perfect person to throw off the scent. But, they had all decided to have a normal first day of school, for their sanity.
Kim spotted Nadia across the courtyard, seated on a bench surrounded by lots of people. Nadia gave her a small smile and waved, Kim returned the favor. She wasn’t sure how much she believed Hailey’s theory, she was always so nice, she wasn’t capable of kidnapping someone. Kim turned back to her friends, hoping no one noticed their encounter, she was a big fan of “innocent until proven guilty.”
The life was sucked out of them all when Jay pulled Erin’s phone out of his pocket, they had a text. So much for a normal first day of school.
Blocked ID: Round 1, golden boy, time for you to lose a few flakes...tell everyone what really happened before Nadia left, and I mean everyone.
“What do they mean, Jay?” Kim asked. “What happened?”
Jay took a deep breath, the last thing he wanted to do was ruin Nadia’s life, but it came down to her or his mom. His mom wins everytime. He sees her sitting on a bench near the school, unfortunately in the middle of a crowd. He takes a few steps away before Hailey calls him back. “Jay! You don’t have to do this!”
“I can’t risk it, it’s my mom.” He stalks across the pavement towards her. “Hey Nadia.”
“Hi Jay!” She says excitedly, “It’s been a while-”
He cuts her off, “You know Mr. Sampson doesn’t work here anymore, right?”
Nadia’s jaw drops, “I’m not sure why that matters…”
“Yeah you are.” Jay fights the lump in his throat and stands his ground. “He’s the teacher that got fired, for sleeping with you.” Everyone around them gasps, and Nadia looks like she’s been stabbed in the chest.
“What-”
“Erin told me everything. And now everyone else knows too.” He turned on his heel and booked it towards the truck. It went just how he hoped, quick and painful, there was no avoiding the betrayal. The next text was sent before her first tear hit the pavement.
Blocked ID: Bravo, your mommy is safe, for now.
His friends all had the same exact look on their faces, utter shock. Jay grabbed his backpack from the bed and raced towards the school. “Jay,” Hailey sighed. She gave an apologetic look to the 3 stunned people in front of her and then hurried after him.
Hailey knew that he couldn’t escape her, they had first block together. They were the first two people in the classroom , she slid into the seat next to him. “Why didn’t you tell us?”
“It wasn’t my business to tell.” He responds quietly, the guilt clearly eating him up. Hailey just nodded, knowing he definitely didn’t want to talk about it. She was dealing with her own inner emotions, she realized now that no one's secret was safe, especially her own.
…
Third block rolled around and Hailey strolled into phycology, she looked around for Kevin but instead she found a seating chart taped to the whiteboard. She internally groaned, she was sixteen years old. No one needed to tell her where to sit. Unfortunately, Atwater and Upton were nowhere close to each other in the alphabet, so Hailey found herself all the way across the classroom from her only friend.
She slid in her seat next to a boy with very bright blue eyes. “I’m Kelly,” He said, “Severide, call me Severide.”
She gave him a small smile before introducing herself, “Hailey.”
“Nice to meet you Hailey.” He said, his smile lingering a little too long. Hailey felt a slight blush reach her cheeks and turned to face the front of the room.
As soon as the bell rang a voice came over the intercom. “Jay Halstead, report to the principal’s office. Jay Halstead, report to the principal’s office.”
Hailey put her head in her hands and took a deep breath. That definitely wasn’t good.
…
Jay found himself sitting across from Mr. Kelton, their principal, not five minutes later. He had a very unpleasant look on his face and Jay was prepared for the lecture of the century, which he deserved. “Well, Mr. Halstead, I never thought we would be in this position.” Jay didn’t either, he was always a good kid, he didn’t belong there. “The allegations you made against Ms. Decotis were very serious, would you care to explain yourself?”
Jay took a deep breath, he couldn’t exactly tell him that he was forced to expose Nadia by a crazy stalker/possible murderer who kidnapped his girlfriend and, might possibly be Nadia. “Sir, I want to sincerely apologize for my actions this morning. It’s been a rough few months, with the Erin stuff, and seeing Nadia was really hard for some reason. She wasn’t here to bear the pain with the rest of us and I just got so mad that she showed up now.” Jay gave him a weak smile, and continued to talk out of his ass. “Erin told that Mr. Sampson and Nadia had an affair, I don’t even know if it’s true.”
Mr. Kelton nodded, “Son, I understand that the past few months have been difficult, but we do not tolerate harassment in this building. You need to formally apologize to Ms. Decotis and I expect to see you in detention the next three Thursdays.”
Jay let out a breath of relief, he was expecting much worse. “Of course and it won’t happen again.”
“I will hold you to that young man, get back to class.” Jay hurried out of the office. He was mortified and felt terrible. There was no way that Nadia was threatening them, he refused to believe it. The rumor he started could ruin everything for her, no one would risk that.
…
Hailey found herself seated at a lab table with Adam and Kim AP Chem, her last class of the day. The teacher was going on and on about lab safety and she was pretty sure that Adam was currently looking up the ingredients of a molotov cocktail instead of taking notes.
She still hadn’t talked to Jay about his visit to Kelton’s office and it was eating her up inside. He was definitely in trouble, there was only so much having an assumed dead girlfriend could get you out of.
Hailey looked up from doodling on her paper to see a red headed boy staring at her, she avoided his gaze by whispering to Kim about it. Kim chuckled under her breath. “That’s Kevin Hadley, he's harmless.”
Adam looked up like he missed something, but Kim shrugged him off. It was obvious that he wasn’t paying attention to anything other than his stupid secret prank plan.
The class dragged on for forever, and when the final bell rang, Hailey felt like crying. She bid goodbye to Adam and Kim and leaned against a set of lockers to text Jay, since he was her ride home. Suddenly a figure appeared in front of her. “I’m Kevin.” He said, leaning against the metal next to her.
“Hi.” She said briefly, returning her focus to her phone.
“Listen,” He said, taking a step toward her. “My buddy is throwing a party tonight, kind of a back to school bash if you will, you should come with me.”
Hailey’s head popped up, for someone so harmless, he was very forward. “Sorry, I have plans.” She said and made a move to walk past him, but he stepped in front of her.
“Come on, it’ll be fun.” Hailey stepped backward, feeling very uncomfortable with how close he was to her.
Before she could respond she heard a voice come from behind her. “I’m pretty sure she already said no.” She turned around to find Severide standing his ground behind her.
“Mind your own business man, we were just talking.” Kevin spit back, taking another step forward. Hailey quickly removed herself from in between the two boys and stood behind her new friend.
Severide stepped up to face him, “Walk away Hadley.” Hailey froze, she would recognize that low growl anywhere. He turned to look at her, “You good Hailey?” He asked and Hailey feigned confidence, pretending she wasn’t completely terrified. The person that strangled her was no longer a figure in the dark, it was Kelly Severide.
…
A/N: I’m thinking there will be some confusion about their school day, I’m trying to make this story as realistic to real high school as possible (since it hasn’t been that long since I was there myself), so that includes homework, not skipping school and definitely no free periods. That being said, I’ve structured their day the same way mine was. Four classes a day, every other day, eight in total. So sometimes they will have one class in the morning and in another chapter it could be a different one, it’s called an A-B Schedule. Anyway, just wanted to clear that up! Thanks for reading!

Daddys little whore ¡teacher!frank iero smut
Tw.daddy kink,very sexual,alchol .
Frank, Mr iero, frankie , sir , mister , the cool music teacher, the dude that you met at a gig , punk rock 25 year old man who acts like he's 19 . Those are many names that describe Frank iero my music teacher , the one who stole my heart on the first day of freshmen year .
I'm a senior now so I've had a crush on the man for quite a long time.
Of course you can't say he's the sexiest teacher, I mean there's Mr Way out art teacher , Mr Toro our math teacher and
Mr Way number two aka Gerard's brother aka Mikey or our English teacher .
I'm probably the closest with Mikey and Frank , I mean don't get me wrong I still think that Gerard and Ray are cool it's just that. I tell Mikey everything and Frank is the funny teacher that every student adores .
I want to do one thing before heading off to college , and that's hooking up with him .
Yeah that's my plan you heard me.
I've been dressing in some more reviling clothes , I'd wear matching lace underwear with a bra that I had bought specifically for this occasion .
Sometimes I'm in my room alone touching myself to the thought of him and what those tattooed hands could do .
Today I was most definitely gonna get his attention .
~~~
I hurried to Mikey's class knowing I'd be late , I spent the whole night on tumblr and reading some NSFW fics.
Gotta love tumblr .
I put on my normal uniform it's just that I put on knee high black socks , a chain to my usual plaid red skirt , then my Converse and finally a black hoodie that on the sleeves wrote
'Daddy's little whore'
With nothing beneath it .
I was gonna hit it off hard .
I opened the door to English as I spotted Mikey in his chair and the students writing some essay or something .
"Morning Mikey , sorry I'm late" I called him by his fist name witch he never liked , but I was practically his best friend so i had a pass .
"Morning y/n take a seat and if you're late again btw this is the fifth time this week , I'm gonna give you detention got it "he said still glued to his papers .
You see Mikey has gotten suspicious , especially cuz I started to dress like a slut .
I'd usually tell Mikey the details about my crushes and how they look like and so on .
And he'd tell me to go ask him or her out .
But I didn't tell Mikey about Frank , I simply can't . He's his best friend and band mate , I can't just straight up say 'hey I like my music teacher I want him to bang me against his desk and call me his dirty little slut '
Hell nah
So I decided to keep it to myself.
Well mostly myself.
I sat down next to my blond haired bestie and gave him a side hug .
"How's it going my man " I told Patrick
He smiled , turning away from his work .
"Hey there n/n , I'm good " then he looked at my outfit
"Trying to impress ireo again ?"
He whispered, I nodded and took off his fedora to ruffle up his strawberry blond hair .
He scratched his face up and snatched his hat away from me adjusting it .
"By the end of the year I'm gonna smosh with him " I chuckled lightly as the fedorable tiny human smiled at me .
"Y/n , you know that Anthony and Ian put the copyright struck on the word 'smosh' so use it carefully " Mikey said smiling at me .
"It's ok y/n !" Ian yelled across the classroom as Anthony put Ian's hand down and smiled at me before getting back to work .
In a flash the bell rang and all the students left the classroom .
I waved at pat and turned around to face Mikey's hazel eyes .
"Soooooo any new crushes huh y/n "
Mikey wiggled his eyebrows at me as I rolled my eyes at him .
"Yeah" I said fiddling w the sleeve of my hoodie .
I could hear him whisper a small 'yes' and punch the air . I giggled and sat down next to him .
"So tell me all about them " he said taking a sip of his coffee on the table .
I nodded as I tried to think of a way that I can describe Frank to Mikey without him knowing .
"So he's a bit older than me , and has this black hair that is always greasy but it makes him look good and hazel eyes but they are a bit more on the green side then brown and he's covered in tattoos and ugh imagine what those tattoo covered hands can do " I went on and on. Pausing a couple of times go take a deep breath.
"Uh-huh so he has hazel eyes and black hair and Is covered in tattoos.....that sounds like frank" he knit his eyebrows together and sent me a confused look .
Then realization hit him and his face turned from confused to a shocked one .
"Holy shit you're in love with Frank that's why you wore all those slutty clothes it's because of him " he mumbled as I looked at him in panic I thought he was gonna tell me that I'm weird and that I'm some kind of weirdo that falls for way older men .
"You have next class with him , holy crap you need to hook up " he said looking at me with a smirk , I smirked back and he gave me some advice on him and how to get him easily .
***
I left Mikey's classroom and skipped lunch to hang out with my friends .
As usual we climbed up some tree and sat on a branch while gossiping about teachers and other people
Oh don't forget the part where we smoke and Pete brings booze so we get pretty much wasted before class .
"Come on Patrick it's just a bit of alcohol , don't be a pussy "I slurred as Patrick looked at the bottle and shook his head .
"Pat , Patty , Trick , my best friend come on man get loose " Pete said as Andy and Joe stared at Patrick in amusement .
"I told you guys I'm not drinking " said the blond as he pushed away the flask that Pete shoved in his face .
I sighed looking over to Pats orange juice , I smirked looking at Pete and handing it to him .
"Oh yeah " I whispered as pat was too interested in looking at Ryan Ross and Brandon Uries painting that was hung up inside the school .
Pete poured a good amount of booze in Patrick's juice and winked at me .
***
I heard the bell ring and headed to music .
My time to shine.
I smirked to myself as I entered ieros class .
"Morning Mr Iero "
I smiled at him and his hazel eyes as he looked me up and down eyes glued to my knee high socks .
"Morning y/n , I see you changed up your look today " he smirked at me and my stomach flipped .
I turned pink as I put my hand on his chest rubbing the fabric of his thin dress shirt .
"Yeah , yeah I did the uniform was too old fashioned for me with all those boring clothes" I said as I took a seat .
Frank explained something to the class and I listened carefully , not to him but his voice of course .
It was so stern and husky and god darn sexy .
I pressed my thighs together , I was dripping and I needed some attention now .
I got up from my seat and swayed over to the door as a hand grabbed my wrist .
"Y/n"he said sternly , obviously annoyed by my behavior.
"Yes Mr Iero " I turned to face him .
"Did I say you can leave the classroom ?"
His eyes filled with filth as I started becoming more wet down there .
I shifted in my place and shook my head .
"Detention , see me after class "
I did it , I thought . Taking a seat on my chair and nodding innocently .
Throughout the class Frank has been giving me looks and winking at me from time to time .
It made me wanna jump on him and rape his ass.
***
All the students left the class leaving me with Frank .
I was exited knowing what I'd get for being such a bad girl .
"I'm aware that you know better then not to disobey me sweetheart" he purred as he stood up to look me in the eyes .
"You know bad girls like you get punishments ...." he whispered in my ear as he planed a kiss on my neck .
"Girls like you get to be fucked against the wall for not listening" he took my wrist and made me stand up .
He then forced my lips to his as he put his hands on my waist and I put mine on his chest .
I pushed him on his chair and strangled his hips . His nails dug deep in the skin on my thighs as his tongue danced with mine in the war for dominance .
He moved to my neck to leave open mouthed kisses on my neck , nibbling and marking what's his .
"Oh baby how I dreamed of this moment" he purred against my neck as I took off my hoodie .
His eyes bugged out seeing that there's nothing beneath .
"Aw sweetheart dressing up for me , how nice of you " he smirked and moved to undo my bra .
He yanked it on the desk as he moved to grope them , he took one nipple in his mouth and nibbled making me moan .
He grinds himself on me , his erection obvious.
"Wanna blow me baby ?" I melted in his embrace as I lowered myself on my knees and carefully unzipped his slacks and slid them down .
I palmed him though his boxers as he groaned bucking his hips.
I pulled his boxers down for his erect bud to spring free , as I looked at him hungrily and pressed my tongue against his tip spreading pre cum.
I took him in and bobbed my head as he groaned and slowly fucked my mouth .
He pulled on my h/c locks and moaned , sweat forming on his forehead as his dark brown hair stuck to his skin .
I moaned against him causing to him buckling his hips again and making me gag .
He pulled out his stiff cock , a bit string of drool stuck to it connecting my swollen lips to him .
"You did so good baby , such a good girl". He smirked and lifted me up to his hight , pressing a kiss to my lips as I moved and strangled his hips once more .
He reached under my skirt and moved my panties to the side , his fingers brushing against my wet folds making me moan .
He smirked his hazel orbs filled with lust as he lined himself up with me .
"Now sweetie , are you going to be a good little slut for daddy and let me fuck this tight little pussy in peace or are you going to disobey me and be a naughty little girl" he growled as I nodded .
"Use your words baby "said the brunette as I whimpered . Squirming under his touch .
"Yes sir " I said on the edge of a moan his voice was beyond sexy and I was dripping .
"Perfect "he shot me a smirk before slamming into me , I bit my lip trying to to cry out in pleasure .
A muffled moan escaped his lips as I bounced up and down his dick .
I shifted my hips for him to hit the g spot. As he suddenly hit it , I shut my eyes as squeezed them trying not to moan .
The room started to smell like sex as he was making the most beautiful sounds .
I couldn't hold it anymore and just moaned out in pleasure as he looked at me and dug his nails in my his harder.
He started to twitch as my thirsts became sloppier.
"Y/n - fuck -"he groaned as I reached my orgasm .
"Fuck!" We yelled in sync as we both came , I squirted all over his cock while. A hot liquid ran down my thighs .
He pulled out and patted against my shoulder as I stood up trying to find my panties. The stuck out of the pocket of his dress pants , he put on his boxers and stood up .
"You were very well behaved today miss y/n , you have been excused from math class and I hope you have a lovely day " he said as I headed out the door , suddenly he spanked my ass and left a kiss behind my ear .
"I'll see you sir "
"Hope this happens again "
"The feelings mutual"
***
I chuckled to myself as I entered art sitting next to Pat again .
"You wouldn't believe what happened " I whispered as he turned to me and took out his earbud.
"What " he smiled sending me a confused look
"I accomplished my goal "
I said proudly as his eyes went wide .
He was about to say something as Pete cut him off .
" you hooked up with Iero WHOOO "
Pete fake wiped his tear
"I'm so proud of you , my baby is finally gown up " .
Hi boiz so that was it , like I said PLEASE REQUEST MY BRAIN IS EMPTY JUST DO IT .
Thanks for reading .
I Lost My Head When I Met You
Summary: Louis tries to figure out what sort of gesture to make to celebrate his one week anniversary with Clementine.
Read on A03:
Louis stood on Ericson High’s roof, hands on his hips, surveying the grounds proudly. This was a brilliant idea. He couldn’t wait to see it all play out. He and Clementine had been dating for a week now to the day and though he knew that wasn’t a very long time at all for people, every day had felt special to him. He wanted to celebrate this first milestone with something big, something that would knock Clementine off her feet.
Footsteps on the staircase drew his attention back to the roof. Violet emerged, sniffing curiously. She was probably trying to figure out why she’d been called up here.
“Vi! Over here!” Louis waved her over excitedly.
The werewolf approached the young frankenstein with caution, glancing over the edge to see if he’d put anything crazy in place yet. “When you texted me that you had ‘the greatest idea of all time’ I was worried, but it looks like you haven’t done anything stupid yet,”
Louis put his hand to his heart in mock indignation. “Why, Violet! I will have you know that I do indeed have my plan in place and it involves this,” He held forward a long black rope proudly.
“Violet raised an eyebrow. “You’re going to kidnap Clem?”
“What? No! It’s bungee cord!” Louis lifted up the end where there was a loop. “I stick my legs through here and jump right off the side of this building! You’re waiting down there with Clementine, timing it just right so that when my head pops off from the force of the fall it plops right into Clementine’s hands. Then I tell her, ‘I lost my head when I met you!’ Brilliant, right?”
“That just might be the worst plan I’ve ever heard in my life. No, wait, it definitely is,”
“Aaw, why?” Louis pouted, crossed his arms to mirror Violet.
“Louis, c’mon. Even you can see there are a million reasons that’s bad. First of all, you’ll probably get detention of pulling this stunt,”
“Clem’s worth getting detention for,”
“Your dad will be pissed. He’ll blame Clementine for your bad behavior and say you can’t see her anymore,”
Louis looked down at the ground sadly. She had him there.
“Besides, none of that matters because the main reason it’s bad is that it’ll scare Clementine. She won’t think it’s cute, she’ll be freaked out,”
“Clem doesn’t think I’m a freak,” Louis argued, his tone growing defensive. “She likes me just the way I am,”
Violet’s ears dropped, realizing her mistake. “Lou, I didn’t mean it like that. I just meant…” she sighed. “Clem is always doing her best to look out for you and make sure you don’t get hurt. Putting yourself in harm’s way - even if it’s for show - will only stress her out,”
Louis’ confidence deflated. “Yeah… I guess you’re right. Plus, I’m just kidding myself that we could get the timing right on that fall. Knowing me, my head would probably end up flying into someone’s bicycle basket or a trashcan or something. But… I want to do something. To show how much she means to me,”
Violet’s eyes softened. “I think she already knows. But if you want to do something special, just go the classic route. Flowers, chocolates, a note. She’d love any of that stuff,”
Louis nodded thoughtfully. It wasn’t that unique, but he didn’t want to waste his time trying to form some sort of grand plan and come up empty instead. There was still enough time in study hall for him to sneak out to the woods and grab some wildflowers. He turned to Violet with a determined smile. “I can do that. I’ll see you later, Vi!” With that he was off, leaving Violet on the rooftop, her tail softly wagging as she watched her friend go.
There wasn’t much time to find the best flowers of all. Louis could only manage to quickly grab a handful of wildflowers before running back inside to his locker, dumping out his pencil holder, pouring the contents on his water bottle in it and setting the flowers inside, hoping they’d stay fresh till school was over. For the rest of the day whenever there was a lull in his schoolwork, Louis would scribble in the back part of his notebook, trying to come up with a note to give to Clementine. He wanted to write something that would encapsulate everything that he felt for her, but that was a tall order.
The first time he’d met Clementine was when she saved him from some Delta High bullies. As she held his head safely in her arms, Louis had felt like she was the most beautiful girl in the world. Later interactions with her had only served to drive that idea home for him. Clementine was a human, but she wasn’t like most of the others he had met. She’d never looked at Louis strangely or gotten freaked out when parts of him fell off. She was patient with him as he learned about the brand-new world around him, and best of all, against all odds Clementine liked him too. Somehow the same admiration he held for her was reflected in her eyes when she looked at him. She believed he was special, that he could do anything he set his heart on.
In the end, Louis settled on a very simple note, one he could tuck amongst the wildflowers before he handed them to Clementine. It read: Clementine, thank you for always believing in me. I love you. Louis read the note over and over a million times as he waited for the last school bell to finally ring. When it did, he bolted out of the classroom, sprinting to his locker without thinking of any strange looks that might draw. Opening the locker, he found the wildflowers still mostly fresh to his relief. He shook the excess water off them lightly before tucking the scrap of notebook paper within the bouquet and running off to find Clementine.
He was out of the front entrance before her. Seeing that Clementine clearly hadn’t made it outside yet, Louis ended up awkwardly pacing as he waited, glancing up to the front steps every five seconds.
Violet made it outside before Clementine. She approached Louis with a knowing smile on her face, shaking her head as he jittered with nerves. “You don’t need to worry, Lou. It’s not like she’s gonna turn you down. She’s your girlfriend,”
“Oh, yeah? Then why do you get so nervous every time you reach for Prisha’s hand? You two have been dating way longer than me and Clem,”
He did have a point. Dating someone didn’t mean all your fears immediately went away. If anything, they somehow increased them. Violet glanced at the bouquet. “So you went with flowers?”
Louis nodded. “And a note,”
“What does the note say?”
“Just ‘thank you for believing in me’ and that I love her,”
“Wait, you guys are already to the ‘I love you’ stage?”
Louis quirked his head in confusion. “Don’t all couples say that?”
Violet shook her head. “No way. Prisha and I have been together for months and we’re not there yet,”
“But… I thought…” Louis looked down at the ground helplessly. There was still so much about life and relationships he didn’t know. Sometimes he hated being seven months old.
“There she is now,”
Violet’s words had Louis’ eyes shooting up to see Clementine making her way down the school steps, waving goodbye to Sophie and Minnie. Shit. I need to get rid of this note. Destroy the evidence. His eyes frantically searched the area for somewhere he could hide it. The trash can by the steps was his best bet. Louis made a bee line for it, not looking out for where he was going.
“Look out!” The words came too late. The skateboarder whose path Louis had crossed crashed into him, sending Louis crashing to the ground, his head flying off.
“Louis!” Clementine’s voice broke through the air as she leapt forward, catching him and holding his head safely in her arms. She looked down at her boyfriend with concern, brushing a stray dreadlock back. “Are you OK?”
“Y-yeah. Man, that skateboarder came out of nowhere!” Louis glanced over to where his body lay on the ground, blindly reaching out for the flowers scattered across the concrete.
Clementine caught on to what was happening too. Walking over, she gave Louis’ body a hand up, still cradling his head in her other hand. She then proceeded to help retrieve the flowers, pausing when she saw a note addressed to her and picking it up. “What’s this?”
“Uh, nothing. I mean, it was just something to celebrate our first week together, but-”
“Really?” Clementine’s eyes sparkled with an excitement that made Louis feel like he was melting. Before he could remember to finish his warning to not read the note, she had already opened it and read it in an instant. She remained silent, her eyes scanning the paper repeatedly.
Louis closed his eyes, not wanting to see Clementine’s face when she told him he’d gone too far, that he was moving too quickly. Instead, he was surprised to feel his head being lifted up. He opened his eyes to find Clementine on her tiptoes, placing his head back on top of his body. Her hands cupped his face as she made sure his head was securely on. Then, as though on impulse, she raised herself a bit higher, placing a kiss upon his lips.
Louis’ hands carefully came around her waist, pulling Clementine closer as the kiss deepened. When they pulled away, both of them looked flushed.
Clementine bit her lip, glancing away before her eyes returned to Louis. “I love you too. Happy one week anniversary,”
“Happy one week anniversary,” Louis murmured, still staring at her in wonder. He shook his head suddenly, clearing his thoughts. “Can I walk you home?”
“I’d like that,” Clementine’s smile was warm as she intertwined her fingers with his.
Realizing he was still holding most of the remnants of his bouquet, Louis handed them to Clementine who took them gladly. They walked together, hand in hand, talking animatedly each step of the way.
Watching from a distance, Violet shook her head good-naturedly, amused by how the whole event had worked itself out. Louis had lost his head after all and Clementine had caught him just like she always would. They really were a perfect match.
[AO3] [WATTPAD]
When Rise woke up the next day, she felt refreshed and more optimistic. So what if they had a little fluke moment where they got caught up in the emotions of their new friendship? It could happen to anyone. She made a decision not to let the connotations get to her, and to just be the best friend she could be to all of her friends.
Marukyu kept her busy for most of that day. Her last day before school started back up, and she was spending it working. But she didn't mind. She actually really enjoyed working with her grandmother, getting to do something useful. Helped to take her mind off herself. Staying humble had become extremely valuable after her whirlwind of a career, and she knew she would value it going into her comeback once she was through with school.
That had been one of her biggest decisions: not to return until after her second year. She intended to do some small things, but she wanted to focus on at least finishing high school before she went all-in again, or she probably would start failing courses. And she didn't want to be just another pretty face with an empty mind.
She texted Ai during her lunch break and got no response. That was weird. But only once she tried again on her way home and still got nothing did she begin to worry. Was something the matter?
Of course she knew what the most logical reason was. She just hated to consider it. Would Ebihara really stop talking to her over one little kiss? No way. They were becoming such good friends! Really getting along, discovering new things about each other and appreciating the person each of them was inside. But she couldn't help remembering just how freaked out she looked immediately afterward…
No answers to her calls. No answers to her texts. By the time she had taken a quick bath and sat down with leftovers from the restaurant, she was really beginning to panic. Something was wrong. Maybe she was being paranoid, but everything she had learned from her friends and their adventures together taught her to trust her instincts. So she got dressed again and headed over there to find out for herself what was the matter.
"Ah, hello," said a completely unfamiliar woman when the door opened. Her outfit was very professional-looking; probably a cleaning woman or something similar. "May I help you?"
"I, um… good evening," she finally managed with an awkward smile and a quick bow. "I'm here to see Ai-chan. Is she available?"
"I'm sorry, Miss Ai is not available. She is busy getting ready for her first day of school tomorrow. Whom would you like me to tell her came calling?"
Rise's heart sank in disappointment. "Oh, just a friend. Thanks."
"Of course. Have a good evening." With a much deeper, more polite bow, she backed up and closed the door.
As she made her way home, the dejected popstar tried to reassure herself that at least now she knew her friend was okay. Ignoring her wasn't nice but it was preferable to mortal danger.
Halfway through her re-reheated leftovers, she got a text. It was disappointingly short but better than nothing.
EBI: Sorry. Busy. Ttyl.
RISE: Okay, see you soon~
And then she did her best just to eat and resist the temptation to cry.
~ o ~
"And that's really all the explanation she gave you?"
"Yes," Rise sighed as she walked to school that morning, holding her bag in front of her uniform skirt and trying not to look completely deflated. "It's pretty dumb for me to get so upset about nothing."
"Well…" Yukiko shrugged as she watched the backs of their friends walking further ahead. Yosuke had been the one to protest that they wanted to split off from the group to have a private conversation, of course, but when Chie smacked him on the shoulder he withdrew his complaints. Rise just really needed someone to confide in without getting the whole group's critique. "It might not be nothing."
"Really?"
"You said it was just a small kiss of friendship. But some girls… you know. They are very particular about that kind of thing, their first kiss."
Nodding, she looked around at all the cherry blossom petals that we're still strewn on the ground. "It wasn't on purpose, though. And I didn't initiate it! She did! And isn't it normal for young girls to get mixed up about this stuff, anyway? 'Class S' or whatever?"
"Sorry, I'm not trying to 'blame' anyone. Just saying that might be why she feels strange now. But it sounds like at the time, you were both able to put uncomfortable feelings aside for the rest of the evening. Perhaps she will be able to do that again soon."
"Yeah, maybe… ohhh, this is ridiculous! We didn't even do anything wrong! But I wish I could just take it back, so everything would be okay again."
"I understand. And no, you didn't do anything wrong." They were both silent for a moment before Yukiko asked, "If I may... I'm sorry if this is rude, but I'm curious why you wanted to talk to me about it."
Why did Yukiko look so nervous about this question? Rise had a suspicion - but put that out of her mind as best she could. "Oh? Wh- I mean, why not? We're friends. Aren't we friends?" She even linked arms with Yukiko, nudging her so she stumbled as they walked. But of course, the little innkeeper was even more poised than Rise, so she didn't do more than misstep for a brief second.
"Hey!" They both laughed. "Of course, of course, Rise-san. I just wondered why you chose me instead of the others."
"Because… I mean, no offense to most of those blockheads, but most of them would probably just tell me to stop trying. And Naoto would launch a full-scale investigation."
"She would," Yukiko chuckled.
"But thanks for cheering me up. Really, thank you for your support."
"Anytime. And thank you for confiding in me."
Rise waved a hand with a giggle. "Hey, I trust all of you guys with my life. We've been through worse!"
They were still laughing when Chie turned back to ask what was going on and why they were still lagging behind. They gave her brush-off answers as they rejoined the group on their way to their new schoolyear.
~ o ~
Classes were about as boring as they had been on the first day of the year previous. Rise found herself daydreaming a lot, doodling in the margins of her notebook, staring out the window. Thinking about her friends and what friendship meant to her.
Thinking about the kiss. It was a lot more thrilling than it should have been, especially given that they were both girls. But what had really been the harm? The more she thought about the aftermath, the more the word 'annoyed' kept coming back to her. She was annoyed that Ebihara freaked out, annoyed that they couldn't just both get over it and move on with their lives. People kissed each other all the time! There was no need to make a federal case out of it!
At the same time… she couldn't lie to herself that it hadn't been exhilarating. Even romantic, if she just pretended it had happened with a boy instead of her female classmate. And Ai was so tall, and beautiful, and self-assured — normally. Lately she wasn't quite as confident, but she knew it was only a matter of time before she found her footing again socially.
Stupid. She had looked down to see she scrawled "Ai-chan" in the margin, and scribbled over it. This was getting out of hand, especially when she knew she didn't even really have romantic feelings! That was impossible. She wasn't some actor from the Western world; she had no interest in women beyond friendship. So those feelings could go away anytime.
Anytime now…
At lunch, she did a quick tour of the campus, trying to find Ai if she could. No dice. She wound up just snacking on a rice ball in the hallway as she walked. Maybe Ai called in sick that day. No, that didn't track, since she had been getting ready for school. Then again, she could have just said that to throw her off the scent…
Too confusing — especially on top of classwork. She would just put it out of her mind until later.
A rude awakening awaited her when 'later' finally arrived. Ai was denigrating some guy or another by the shoe lockers, arms folded as she stared down at him. A typical scene, even if it had been a few weeks since anyone got to see it.
"But baby, don't be cruel! I just want to get closer to you!"
"That's more than close enough," she said airily at the boy groveling in front of her, examining her nails instead of paying attention to him directly. "I don't know why you thought I would fall all over myself for you when I hardly know you."
"You… you girls are such a riot," he chuckled harshly, carefully arranged hair shifting as he smirked and shook his head at her. "I put in all this time and effort to look good for you, and this is the thanks I get?"
"That's right, Iwamoto. A big fat goose egg. But go ahead, smack me again if it's going to make you feel better.
Rise felt her heart leap into her throat, and her fingers tightened on the hallway corner she had been hiding behind. This was getting a lot more intense than it had been when it started. So this Iwamoto kid had struck her before? Why wasn't he in detention? Why hadn't he been expelled?!
"Maybe I will," he threatened with a dark grin.
"Go for it. Unless you left your goddamn balls in your other uniform."
Oh, that definitely got to him. Immediately. One could practically see the steam rising from his ears as his hands curled into fists at his sides, nostrils flaring. He took a single step toward her-
"Heeeeey!"
Iwamoto stopped in mid-step to figure out who was interrupting in such a loud voice. They turned to see the famous Risette prancing over toward him — because really, prancing was the only word to describe her movements, as bubbly as they were. She latched onto his arm with a dazzling smile, looking up into his eyes.
"Are you Iwamoto?"
"Uhhhh… so you've heard of me?" he asked, his anger slowly starting to be replaced by a smug smile. "I've heard of you, too, Risette."
"Great! I'm so happy to have your support!" A light giggle. A few people around them were already whispering, and out of the corner of her eyes she could see Ebihara crossing her arms over her chest.
"Yeah, no problem. So what can I do for you, baby?"
"Oh, I just had a message from the nurse's office for you. Something about… oh, I don't remember." She very lightly knocked on her own head, sticking out her tongue briefly as she giggled. "Wait — right! she said the swelling should go down and you have to keep using the cream on the infected area? But she wouldn't tell me what it meant, just that those were your instructions."
"What? But I don't have any-"
"I mean, you're Iwamoto, right?"
"Yeah, that's me. Suguru Iwamoto."
"Yeah! But I mean, I wish she'd told me what we were really talking about, but all she would say was that GONORRHEA was a serious problem, and you had to treat it the right way." That one word was so loud, it definitely carried up the stairwell and into the second floor. "Like, I've never heard of that! What does it mean?"
This theatrical scene had the audience right where she wanted them. Everyone began chuckling and muttering to each other, pointing at the formerly-cocky boy who now looked like he was going to soil himself. He tried to glare at Rise, but she looked so innocent and cute, blinking up at him with her index finger tip resting gently against her own chin, that it would take a real monster to try to blame her for her "mistake" — or just someone with a finely tuned bullshit detector.
"That's… there's no- UGH!" Immediately, he stormed off down the hall at top speed. She strongly suspected that he was going to the nurse's office to figure out what had gone wrong and ruined his reputation in one fell swoop.
Rise made a big show of shrugging and saying, "Wow, what's the matter with that guy?" before turning to Ai, intending to shoot her a little wink. Revel in their victory.
But instead, she found she was receiving the cold shoulder. The girl looked thoroughly put out and irritated, staring off into the corner. She took one step toward her and Ai stalked off in the opposite direction, without even deigning to look at her one more time.
"Geez… try to be a good samaritan and get ghosted for it. Not cool."
~ o ~
However, a Kujikawa was not nearly as easily defeated as that. She lay in wait at the front gates once school let out, in front of them so Ebihara wouldn't see her coming. Then, once she strolled past as prim and proper as ever, she fell into step beside her.
"Ugh," the other girl breathed as they walked.
"Fancy running into you here!"
"What do you mean, fancy? It's 'fancy' when you ambush someone?"
"Cut that out," she said with a pout. "Why are you being so mean?"
Eyes narrowing even more, she finally sighed and said, "Put away the puppy dog eyes. They're not going to work on me. You may catch your fanboys that easily but I told you I'm not-"
"Yeah. Not a fan. I'm just thirty years too young to be your jam."
"What the hell is that supposed to mean?"
"You know… your old timey music."
"City pop is not 'old timey'! It's classic! And I already told you why I listen to- why am I explaining myself? I would like to unsubscribe from this conversation, please."
Latching onto her arm, Rise whined, "Awwwww, c'mon, why are you being so mean? I've never been anything but nice to you — I even helped you out with that creep earlier!"
"And did I ask for your help with that creep? Did I? No. He wasn't going to hit me in front of all those people; he's not that stupid. But you're so nosey that you can't help but insert yourself within the situation, no matter whether or not I want you to. We just keep coming back to that, don't we?"
Rise fell silent for a moment. It was weird that Ai hadn't pushed her away, hadn't even told her to let go. Just wanted to know why she wouldn't give up. However, the repeated insistences that she didn't need her were starting to get to her. Either they cut to the heart of the matter now, or she was going to end up crying in public. That plan was no good.
"Okay, um… so you're mad about the kiss." Instant tensing. "Relax, nobody's closeby, they aren't going to hear us."
"Yeah, well…" This sigh was even heavier than the previous ones, and Rise could see all the fight draining from her features as they continued to walk. "Fine. Let's head down to the flood plain, it might be a little better."
So they did. It was a fairly nice day, not too hot, not too cold, and the afternoon sun glittered on the Fuefuki River as they carefully picked a spot along the grassy slope that lined it. Rise sat down immediately and began to pull out the grass, hoping it would distract her from the way her stomach was twisting into knots.
"I'm sorry," she led with before Ai even got a chance to speak.
"Oh yeah? Why?"
"Because." Nope, try again. "I know this was really awkward for both of us. But for some reason, it's way worse on you, and I don't get that but… can you maybe help me figure it out instead of just yelling at me, or acting like I don't exist?"
Ai had begun breathing harder the entire time she listened. At the end of it all, she gave a tight shrug and snapped, "No. I just don't want to waste my time talking to girls anymore. I need to start focusing on my homework, and on boys if I want to date someone. Getting my life back together."
"But I'm your friend. I'm not trying to date you, don't be silly!"
"Really?" she suddenly flung at her, half shouting. "You could have fooled me! With the kissing, and how much you've been chasing me around, trying to warm up to me? It feels like that's exactly what you're doing — like you had ulterior motives the whole time, when I was stupid enough to believe you just wanted to be my friend!"
"I… hey, it's not like that, I promise! Wow, paranoid! I thought we got past all of this!"
"Yeah, well, you trying to vacuum my face off really changed things!"
Rise gasped, reaching over to smack her friend's shoulder. Not that their friendship looked entirely stable at the moment but she would keep thinking of her that way until it was clearly a lost cause.
"HEY! Alright, now you're no better than Iwamoto!"
"Cut that out, I barely touched you. And you deserved it for trying to blame me for you being the one to kiss me!"
"What? Oh give me a fucking break, you did kiss me first!"
"On the cheek! And anyway, you are blowing this whole thing out of proportion — we're both girls! So what if we had one little kiss, one time? It's not gonna kill anybody!"
"Alright, well… I'm… I don't know! I'm scared it really will kill me!" Now Rise looked so offended that she quickly followed up with, "Not like that, shut up."
"Oh, then like how? Because I'm sorry, it really sounded like you were calling my kisses poisonous, and that's nice!"
Ai let out a loud growl and pulled at her hair for a moment before flopping onto her back, staring up at the cloudy sky. Rise waited for her to reply or continue the conversation, but she didn't. Just laid there.
"Listen… senpai, I'm sorry. If I knew my little cheek kiss would… make you uncomforta-"
"Shut up already." Eyes swimming, she started to push up to stand, but Ai snapped, "What are you doing?"
"Uhhhh, leaving? Clearly you want to be alone."
"No. You really don't get me at all." A long, quiet pause. "I miss Narukami."
Frowning down at her, Rise finally settled in the grass again, laying on her side so she could see her senior classmate. "Me too."
"He just… even when I was at my worst, my bitchiest and my most abrasive, and my shallowest… he always seemed to know how I was really feeling. Even when I didn't know. It really was like some kind of sixth sense."
"Like an ESPer?" Rise provided. Deciding to leave it at that, instead of going into just what else she knew about Yu.
"Mm," Ai hummed distantly. They both lapsed into silence for a minute or two, listening to the running water and the wind rustling the grass, distant sounds of humans seeking out other humans, or going about their business alone.
And it almost seemed like they wouldn't speak again when Ebihara broke the silence. "I skipped classes this morning."
"Yeah?" Ai nodded, and Rise twisted her finger among the grass as she said, "No wonder I couldn't find you at all. Where did you go?"
"Okina," she snorted, and Rise smiled. "It's the only place I can make sure I probably won't get in trouble for ditching. Just far enough away I won't get caught, but not so far it would take forever."
"Cool. Did you have fun, I guess?"
Only then, in the middle of such mundane sidetracking, did Ai Ebihara begin to cry. And these were full-on tears, mascara running, sobbing, shaking all over.
"No. Because I… be- because- there was n-no… you!"
"Huh?!"
"Rise, I'm not like you," she burst out as she clutched her knees hard against her chest. "In like, lots of ways, but I m-mean… I can't just pretend that kiss didn't mean anything! Not when it was the most amazing thing I've ever felt in my life!"
What the fucking fuck?!
To Be Continued…
Anthem of the Heart and Mind
Day 2: Crush or Pining/ Soulmate AU
Word count: 4152
[Warning: slight cursing ahead]
Soulmates aren’t unheard of in our world, but are very rare. There are many ways that two destined souls find each other, some ways are unique and strange, while others are simple. You could have a red string tied to your finger that would lead you to your soulmate. You could have the first thing they say to you written on your wrist. Some people even have watches that countdown to the moment they meet their soulmate. But having a someone meant for you makes your life a bit harder. You would have a lot on your mind, you would constantly think about them, wonder what they are like and wonder if they would like the kind of person you are. That kinda sucks, but it would be worth it when you finally meet “the one”.
Finding your soulmate also requires time and chance. There are some who find their soulmate a little bit too late and end up living the rest of their life with regret. There are some who aren’t just that lucky and miss each other before they could even have the chance to meet. That’s what scares me. I worry that I might’ve missed the chance to meet “the one” for me, or that I’m too late to find them. I overthink too much, I know. It’s one of my annoying quirks that hopefully my soulmate would tolerate.
This leads us to why I’m talking about soulmates and destiny. A month ago, I began hearing a melody. It wasn’t too loud to be distracting, but it was loud enough for me to hear it like a song being played a few rooms away. The tune was the sweetest thing I’ve ever heard, it was melancholic and longing, yet loving and hopeful. At first, I thought that I was going insane, but after consulting my friends and discussing about it in internet forums, I concluded that this might be how I meet my soulmate. I followed an anonymous advice on the web and wrote down the melody I heard; it was probably the best advice I got. But there was one problem, the song wasn’t complete. The melody in my head played in an endless loop and I was itching to hear the end.
.
Students were already heading to their first periods when I arrived at school. I headed to my locker to get a few things that I needed for my class. Gilbert was waiting for me by my locker, he gave me a small wave as I approached him. “Dude, don’t you have class right now?” I asked him. “We don’t have Home Economics today, after the incident with Kirkland yesterday.” He told me.
In our school, the Seniors begin their classes an hour earlier before the lower grades. Gilbert was a year older than me (I was in Junior year), he became a close friend of mine when I joined the Classical Music club in our school in my 7th year. I raised an eyebrow as I closed my locker and asked, “What happened yesterday?” Gilbert hummed before answering me, “Remember the exchange student I told you about, like a month ago?” I nodded, motioning for him to continue, “Well, that guy is definitely not gifted with culinary skill. Can’t cook for shit and can burn water for some reason. This wasn’t the first time he set something on fire, but it was the first time he blew something up. I can’t believe that he wasn’t expelled for it!” my friend laughed. “That guy must be a riot, huh?” I chuckled, seeing Gilbert’s delight as he reminisced the events of yesterday, “Heh, not really. Oh yeah, remember the text I sent ya earlier? Mr. Edelstein is going to introduce us to a new club member.” He told me.
“Oh yeah, I remember that. It’s rare for him to handpick students to join the orchestra. That guy’s standards are super high.” I remarked, Gilbert nodded in response. A smirk formed in his face, “Don’t you have somewhere else to be, kid?” I blinked for a moment, trying to figure out why he asked me that question. I felt my blood run cold when I realized I was late for class, I swore and sped down the hallway.
“Language, and no running in the halls, Alfred!” Gilbert cackled behind me as I hurried to my first period.
.
The day was very exhausting, all I wanted to do was flop on my bed and play video games all weekend. Unfortunately, the Classical Music club just had to ruin my weekend plans. I entered the club room and greeted my club-mates. Gilbert waved at me and frantically pointed to the seat beside him. I only rolled my eyes as I walked towards my friend, I bumped his fist as a greeting before the two of us engaged in a conversation. “Who do you think the newbie is?” I asked him, he only shrugged. The room was noisy with the conversations of students, we talked and laughed and joked.
“I heard that the new member is a prodigy.” I overheard someone say, “It seems like Gilbert is going to have some competition.” Another giggled. If Gilbert heard this, he didn’t show it. I know how egotistical he is (very much like me) and how he is very protective of his pride. All my years in the Classical Music club, I learned that Gilbert was the only prodigy that Mr. Edelstein introduced since the formation of the club. He could play the flute like some kind of flute god. He’s so good with the instrument that sometimes I don’t even believe that he’s actually human, maybe that’s why I looked up to the guy.
The whole room hushed when Mr. Edelstein walked into the room. We all straightened in our seats and listened to what he had to say. The man cleared his throat, “I guess you all know why you are called so suddenly out of the blue. I’m here to introduce a new member of the club,” he turned and gestured at the open door, “come now, don’t be shy.” All our heads craned to the door, where a young man walked in carrying a violin case. Something inside of me shifted when I laid my eyes on him, I watched him as he walked across the room. His hair yellow like butter, his skin was pale like porcelain, and his doll-like features took me aback for some reason. But his eyes struck me the most, they were like glittering peridots as they swept through the crowd, momentarily landing on me before returning their gaze on the floor.
I looked over at Gilbert and saw that his jaw was slack, as if he couldn’t believe what he was seeing. I probably had the same expression on my face, but I was more enchanted than surprised.
“My name is Arthur Kirkland, I’m an exchange student from England. I hope we can all be friends.” He said formally. “Now that you have properly introduced yourself Arthur, why don’t you show us what you can do?” our teacher clasped his hands together and nodded at the boy. Arthur pulled out his violin, he tightened his bow and applied rosin on it before he began playing an excerpt of Vivaldi’s Winter. Everyone in the room were silenced in awe as we watched him play, his fingers moving gracefully on the instrument, hitting every note with perfection. But there was something else with him that I alone noticed. The little changes of expression on his face as he played, the way his body moved with the melody, and the way he played reminded me of something at the tip of my tongue. The song in my head gradually grew louder as I saw Arthur’s performance, but I paid no attention to it. All I saw was Arthur, and all I heard was the singing strings of his violin. I was ensnared by the music that I didn’t even notice that he was finished, no one made a sound as he bowed.
“HOLY SHIT, KIRKLAND?! YOU PLAY THE VIOLIN?!” Gilbert shot up beside me, grinning from ear to ear. Arthur’s face flushed, Mr. Edelstein glared at Gilbert and told him to sit down. Everyone in the room cheered and applauded for the new member, Mr. Edelstein roused everyone in the room and told us to sit in our respective groups. We were going to rehearse our newest piece; it was a piano concerto that Mozart composed, but I didn’t bother to remember the name of the piece. I was the only one who played the piano in the orchestra, so I had the most important role to play.
I made my way to the piano, humming a melody to myself. The room was filled with the sounds of instruments being tuned and students warming up. I cracked my knuckles and did some warm up exercises on the piano, making sure that I have my music sheet ready, and went over the measures that I needed to practice. In the middle of that cacophony of music, Mr. Edelstein hushed everyone in the room. I noticed that Arthur was standing by the chalkboard, observing the orchestra before him. Our maestro made us play the do-re-mi routine as warm up before we play the piece. He gave us the signal to stop, then he began to move his arms.
The winds and brass played the intro softly, gradually growing louder and faster. The strings followed, providing the counter melody of the winds and brass. When my part finally came up, I let the music lead me. My hands pressed the familiar keys as the tune I had practiced hundreds of times filled my ears. I couldn’t help but be seized by the music, a small grin tugged at my lips while the orchestra backed up my melody. I realized that we were almost at the end, so I had to look up at Mr. Edelstein to make sure I don’t miss the signal. I couldn’t help but steal a glance at the boy standing by the board. He regarded me with some kind of respect, before I returned my gaze at the conductor, narrowly missing the signal to stop. I accidentally hit a wrong key just as the song ended, and immediately everyone groaned at me. “Are you fucking kidding me, bro?” Gilbert raised his hands exasperatedly. “Mr. Beilschmidt! Another peep from you and I won’t hesitate to give you detention.” Mr. Edelstein warned the young man. I heard him stifle his laughter before clearing his throat and (not sincerely) apologizing to the older man. Our teacher only rolled his eyes and praised us for the job well done, and told us to practice over the weekend.
.
Mr. Edelstein made Gilbert stay behind and clean the room as punishment for his behavior earlier. I felt a little bad for him so I stayed behind and waited for him to finish cleaning.
“Sucks to be you, man.” I laughed, he glared at me and threw a broom at my general direction, making me laugh even more. “Mr. Edelstein is lucky that I like cleaning, but fuck him for ruining my plans for the weekend! Antonio and Francis probably hung out without me!” Gilbert groaned as he stacked the last of the chairs in the room and pushed them to the side. He then moved on to the music stands, folding them and placing them in their bags. “Does he even understand what we even go through? The stress we have to deal with? The deadlines we have to meet? Did he not go through high school himself?” He ranted. I was being a jerk by laughing, it wasn’t my fault that he sounds ridiculous while doing it. He glared at me and crossed his arms, “What’s so funny?” he asked irritated. I calmed myself down and told him that it was nothing. Gilbert only rolled his eyes and went back to his duty.
When he finally finished with cleaning up, I remembered something I meant to ask Gilbert earlier. “Oh yeah, I just remembered!” I rummaged through my bag and found the folder I was looking for. My friend’s eyebrow was arched as I showed him the composition I was working on, “What’s that?” he pointed at the folder. “Remember about the stuff I said about soulmates and junk last month? I decided to write it down, but I don’t know how it ends.” I showed him the contents of the folder. His ruby eyes skimmed through the pages, then he looked at me, “So you want me to finish it?”
“What? No! I just want some advice, dude. This is my soulmate we’re talking about. You can’t finish it for me.”
“Advice, huh?” Gilbert tapped his chin thoughtfully, “My advice is that you play it. Your soulmate might hear the song and the two of you could finally meet each other.”
I blinked, I never thought of actually playing it. Just more proof of how stupid I can be. “Oh my god, why haven’t I thought of that?” I grumbled to myself. Gilbert let out a boisterous laugh, “No need to thank me, Alfred, my boy. I am a genius, after all.” He ruffled my hair, making me grin. He can be an egotistical asshole sometimes, but Gilbert is like an older brother I’ve never had. Just another reason why I looked up to him.
I waved goodbye to Gilbert as we parted ways at the school gate, he waved to me before running to his two friends, planning to get into trouble once again. I headed the opposite direction, humming to myself. Dusk was near, the streetlights had already turned on and I couldn’t help but slow my pace and enjoy my walk home. The little town I was in wasn’t much, but it had so many things about it that made it charming, I realized that most of the time, I didn’t even appreciate its peaceful atmosphere.
Then something broke the quiet evening.
A singing violin echoed through the dusk, I stopped in my tracks and felt my heart leap inside my chest. I immediately whipped my head upwards as the familiar melody filled my ears. There, by a window on the third floor of the apartment, was Arthur. Playing his instrument with such grace, I felt compelled to go up the metal staircase on the side of the building to get closer to him. The music he played was almost like the melody in my head, but his song was brash and fast, it was an upbeat and wilder version of the melody I kept hearing. Then the music stopped, I saw him peering outside of the window and glance below. I panicked, if he sees me here, he’d think I’m a creep! I scrambled away from the building and down the street, hoping that he didn’t see me running away like a madman.
.
The year passed by so quickly, and before I knew it, classes were about to end. We were going to have a year-end recital, and a farewell party for our club seniors. The past several months, Arthur and I became acquaintances, then walk-home buddies, then friends (thanks to Gilbert). I also had a growing suspicion that there was a chance Arthur was my soulmate. Gilbert, my ever-loving friend, noticed that I was crushing hard on the Brit, and kept on finding ways to get me and Arthur together. At first, I tried to deny it, but in the end, I had no control over destiny. If he was meant to be with me, then he was. Not that I had any complaints. I also noticed that he had grew a liking to me, because he treated me a little bit differently than other people. In short, he’s just nicer to me. I also enjoyed the little things I noticed about him, and the small things that he would do for me. Fuck, I might be falling for him. Fuck that, I fell for him the moment he played in front of me.
“Alright! We’re going to wrap up the show with…Arthur and Alfred’s duet!” Mr. Edelstein shouted in the noisy backstage, he pointed to the two of us and gestured at us to get ready. I fixed my hair and straightened my bow tie, “Hey Artie, we’re up next!” I reminded him. “I know that, and stop calling me Artie!” he yelled at me, then he muttered something about the noisy room while he was trying to tune his violin. “Al, Arthur, side of the stage, right now!” I heard Gilbert shout over the noise. I walked towards the Brit and told him that we were up. He sighed and reluctantly followed me to the side of the stage.
We made it just in time as the school’s Glee club finished their song, the choir bowed and exited through the other side of the stage. “Hey, your bow’s a bit crooked.” Arthur said as he straightened my bow tie for me. I thanked him, he replied with a soft smile before we were pushed up the stage to perform. The audience clapped as we made our entrance and bowed. I sat by the piano, hands hovering slightly over the keys and Arthur stood beside me, already poised to play. The whole auditorium fell silent, I breathed in and out lightly, clearing my head from distractions. Then, I began to play.
Arthur soon followed, and the music from the two instruments joined to form a beautiful song that echoed throughout the building. It was perfect, it sounded like the two instruments were made for each other. The violin leads the piano’s melody, while the piano guided the violin’s rhythm and tempo. I let the music flood my senses, my hands were flying over the keys, like how Arthur’s fingers flew on the strings. We locked eyes and gave each other a knowing smile as we did the finale of the song.
The auditorium exploded with claps and cheers as we bowed once again and got off the stage. We were jumping like little kids on Halloween when we were off, “Holy shit dude, you were amazing out there!” I grinned at him. Arthur laughed, “No, the whole performance was brilliant because of you!” he and I continued to gush and praise each other for a job well done when someone interrupted us, “Alright, sorry for interrupting you two lovebirds, head over to the other side of the stage. We’re gonna do the closing remarks.” Gilbert told us nonchalantly and left without another word. I felt my ears grow warm when he called us “lovebirds”, he can be a good friend sometimes, but he’s a total jerk at the moment. Arthur cleared his throat, “We should go.” He said, I nodded in agreement and the two of us went through the backstage.
We did the closing remarks, everyone who performed got to bow on the stage as pictures were taken and farewells were said as the night grew deeper. Mr. Edelstein told us to stay behind for a little while, because the farewell party was about to begin. Most of the younger students and a few older students left early, because they didn’t want their parents to worry or were too tired to party. I decided to stay behind, because I wanted to see Gilbert and Arthur off before they leave high school. I was gonna miss Gilbert big time, he was like some kind of parent-figure I had in school, and he taught me more than I could ever let on.
The farewell party was to be held in the auditorium, a few rows of the plastic chairs were moved to the side to make room for the dance floor and for the snack table. The seniors have already begun to make the most of the night. Several of them were dancing to the music roaring from the speakers, a few were standing on the side chatting with each other, while others were just enjoying the music, snacks and punch. I decided that I won’t dance that night, because I had one final thing to do before the seniors leave. I made my way back to the stage, where the piano was still set up. Arthur must’ve saw me walk to the stage, because when I got there, he was right behind me. “Hey, why aren’t you over there dancing on the dance floor?” He asked. “I’m a little worn out to dance tonight. Besides, I was just grabbing something from the backstage.” I told him. He asked me if he could come with and I just nodded, I wanted for him to come with me after all.
After I spotted my bag, I took out the folder containing the unfinished composition. “What’s that?” Arthur asked me, “It’s something I’ve been working on. It’s not finished yet, but I want you to listen to it and give me advice on how I should finish it.” He took the folder from my hand and studied the notes carefully. His eyes widened momentarily before he asked me to play it.
We went to the stage where the piano was at, I sat on the seat and placed the notes on the piano. Arthur watched me carefully, as if he was expecting something brilliant to happen. My heart was now racing, it was now or never. I played the first measure slowly, then gradually went faster as I progressed. The melody was no longer looping in my head, but was surrounding me. I could feel it touch my skin, I could almost taste the sweetness and bitterness the music had. It was just a sensation too ineffable to describe. Then, I stopped. That was where the song ended abruptly. I turned to Arthur to ask what he thought about the song, only to find him with tears brimming in his eyes. I opened my mouth to say something before he grabbed my arm and pulled me backstage.
He engulfed me in a hug as he sobbed into my shoulder. I was shocked and confused, I stood still as he continued to cry. “It’s you. I’ve finally found you.” He said, his voice breaking a little bit. “Arthur…what are you—?”
“You are the song in my heart. The one I’ve been looking for since I’ve learned to play music. Your song clouded my heart every single day. I’ve spent so long searching, and now I’ve finally found you.” He laughed, tears still streaming down his cheeks. I began to finally piece together the events that happened so quickly, everything finally became clear, all of my doubts and suspicions were finally silenced. Arthur is my soulmate. He is the melody in my mind. The song that kept repeating over and over, finally had an ending to complete it. I did not notice the joyful tears in my eyes as I hugged him back. We both laughed and cried like madmen as we were wrapped in each other’s arms. We finally calmed down from the joy and ecstasy we felt, he had lowered his arms to my side as I wiped away his tears with my thumb. Our foreheads rested against each other, noses almost touching and I could feel his heart beating against my chest. I wanted to make the first move and kiss him, but I guess Arthur had the same idea. His lips captured mine and pulled me towards him, I pressed him against the wall where he began to grind his hips against mine. We were so caught up in the moment that we did not notice someone enter the backstage.
“What the—? Oh, god. I’m so sorry for interrupting.” Mr. Edelstein apologized and briskly walked out of the room. Immediately, both of us flung each other away like two magnets with the same pole. I heard running footsteps and Gilbert sprinted to see what was going on, “Holy shit, what the hell were the two of you doing back here? Mr. Edelstein just walked out of the building, red as a cherry!” Gilbert, the jerk he is, wiggled his eyebrow. I groaned as other students came to see what happened. I glanced at Arthur, who I caught was staring at me. His lips were swollen, his suit disheveled and his face the color of strawberries, he looked godly. Arthur let out a small giggle, then it turned to laughter. I couldn’t help but smile and laugh with him. Gilbert and the other students stared at us in confusion, like they missed some kind of inside joke.
I didn’t care, tonight was the night that changed my life forever, and nothing’s going to ruin it for me.
***
I was inspired by some stuff that happened to me in my junior high, I’m part of a school band (it’s not really classical, we focus on traditional instruments most of the time. Our school’s marching band is something else entirely.) and it’s really something that I’ve always wanted to write about. Anyway, sorry for feeding ya’ll this useless info about me. I hope you enjoyed the story!
my favorite thing is monsters (book one) by emil ferris 🧟♀️🔍🧛♀️
quick synopsis: adult (coming-of-age story from the perspective of a young girl, but definitely targeted at an older audience)/graphic novel. set in late 60′s chicago, the fictional graphic diary of ten year old karen reyes recounts her experiences as she tries to solve the murder of her beautiful and enigmatic upstairs neighbor, a holocaust survivor.
page count: 416
rating:★★★ (this is a hard rating for me...think 3.7-3.9....oscillating to a 4....4.2....I don’t know, man)
review: I keep doing this fun and cool thing where I buy a book without realizing it’s the first in an (unfinished) series, and then end up being cast woefully adrift by reality. that’s what I did with this one. purely based on the artwork alone, I can tell you that this book is a treat for the eyes. a lot is going on here, and there’s something so engrossing about being swept up into the chaotic pen strokes and colors. the story is an interesting one, and not entirely what you expect. the characters are all distinct and layered---really riveting people who feel near-painfully real. as the first book in a two (?) book series, it leaves off with the central (and now additional) mysteries unsolved---which leaves the reading experience feeling unfinished and kind of disjointed. I’m stuck in a bit of a confusing mid-zone with this one, where I truly....well, I can't say I enjoyed it, since this story is so much more than that? I was...fascinated? enveloped? I’ll be reading the next one, definitely.
one of us is lying by karen m. mcmanus 🥜🚓📱
quick synopsis: young adult/contemporary mystery/suspense. five students walk into detention. only four make it out alive. who did it...and who is lying?
page count: 361
rating:★★★ (firm 3.7)
review: the breakfast club....but with murder? if you’re down for that, you’ll enjoy this book! it certainly kept my attention. and MAN was this a suspenseful and super stressful read. (if you need a book that’ll make you go “wow, I’m glad I’m not in high school anymore”, this is it lol!) there’s a bunch of really interesting character studies going on in this one, and it definitely lends to a tense and involving read. the only reason the rating isn’t any higher is just that certain elements of it didn’t work...entirely...for me. that doesn’t mean that they were bad...just not what I...wanted? there’s two more books in this series, and while I’m not anxious to get my hands on them, I’m fairly sure I would read them!
murder at morrington hall: a stella and lyndy mystery by clara mckenna 🐎🍵💏
quick synopsis: adult/historical mystery. 1905. stella kendrick, a lively and confident american heiress, is tricked into an arranged marriage by her coldly ambitious father. her groom-to-be is viscount “lyndy” lyndhurst, who is both roughish and financially strapped. despite this rough beginning, they find themselves oddly drawn to each other. could they actually be a good match? however, all courtship is set aside when the pair discover the vicar who was to marry them----dead in the library. now they must work together to solve the crime and find the culprit.
page count: 304
rating: ★★
review: ugh, it pains me to say, as I thought I was signing myself up for a fun turn-of-the-century murder mystery/romance...but this was just...meh. a meh story. I feel like it had potential to be an enjoyable, soapy romp with a dash of sensuality...but it was none of those things? (basically, I wanted a self-indulgent and delicious slice of chocolate cake...but I ended up with a week-old raisin muffin.) it didn't help that I had some issues with certain things the writer included. in particular, I REALLY didn’t like the equating of fat = mean/ugly and the repeated use of the word “bulbous” to describe certain characters noses----I had to do a quick google search to see what the hell the author was talking about. still not sure if she was trying to imply that the characters had rhinophyma/rosacea or just that they had bigger, “ugly” noses, but neither is good lmao. whenever you put a “plain/regular-degular person” with a big nose up against your array of stock White People™ characters with thin noses and angular faces, AND make those “plain” characters play the “wow, I’m so ugly but these characters are so pretty oh woe is me” bullshit in their inner monologue, I’m dipping. I’ve collected my paycheck, clocked out, left the building. (your story is already about a bunch of rich, straight, white people in 1905...I’m already skeptical, don’t test me. jk, but also not.) I’m fairly sure this would have caused a decent amount of people to DNF this book, but I’m a stubborn little bitch, and if I paid actual money for the hardcover copy at goddamn Barnes and Noble, I’m reading it. this is all to say that....if I’m being thrown out of enjoying your soapy historical murder mystery to gripe about random shit, there’s a problem. other than that? carpet was described a lot, the twist was decent, the romance was okay (no smut---or anything even vaguely close to romantic/sexual tension---and the kisses were not described at all, so I have no clue if either of them do more than press their lips together while admiring each others pale necks, but whatever), and the setting was the most interesting thing about this book (a crumbling english estate in the countryside?? sign me tf up). I won’t be reading anything more in this series, but that cover is pretty cool isn’t it? (I don’t know that the vase had anything to do with the story I read, but it does look really neat.) sidenote: hate to be a smarmy asshole, as I know full well how much work goes into writing, and I’m in no way trying to shame the author...this book just didn’t do it for me.
rating: ★★★★★
review: powerful, blistering, and utterly terrifying. that’s what immediately comes to mind when thinking about this book. I read it in a breakneck pace, devouring the whole thing in a feverish five? hour haze. once it was over, I sat bleary-eyed, the air around me feeling different than before, my hands tense and my stomach jumping. “you were a good one.” I said softly, kissing the spine. so yeah, it’s good. it’s very good. heartbreaking and awful and shockingly beautiful. this one hurts. I felt this one in my bones, in my soul. read it.
lovely war by julie berry 🌷💥💞
quick synopsis: young adult (but the youngest character is 18...so I think this could comfortably slot into adult)/historical (with a touch of fantasy). the intersecting stories of hazel, james, aubrey, and colette: a classical pianist from london, a british would-be-architect-turned-soldier, a harlem-born ragtime genius in the u.s. army, and a belgian orphan with a gorgeous voice and a devastating past----told by the goddess aphrodite, who must spin the tale or face judgment on mount olympus.
page count: 468
rating: ★★★★★
review: do you know how many times I CRIED while reading this book? because I certainly don’t! I lost track, as there are simply too many painful and beautiful things contained in this book. heart-wrenching, sumptuous and intoxicating, vivid in the best and worst ways, sharp and soft at the same time. I met my boyfriend while he was still active-duty military, so the wartime/seperation themes hit me very personally....but even without that, this book is excellent. expertly weaving together mythology and history in one gripping piece of art, it left me with a wistful smile on my face and a faint ache in my heart. it’s good. very good.
we have always lived in the castle by shirley jackson 🏡💀🐱
quick synopsis: young adult? adult? who knows!/mystery/horror. mary katherine blackwood is eighteen years old and lives with her sister constance. she has often thought that with any luck at all she would have been born a werewolf, because the two middle fingers on both of her hands are the same length, but she has had to be content with what she has. she dislikes washing herself, and dogs, and noise. she likes her sister constance, and richard plantagenet, and amanita phalloides, the death-cup mushroom. everyone else in her family is dead.
page count: 146
rating: ★★★★ (4.5/4.6!)
review: delightfully creepy and utterly odd, with a full cast of extremely unlikable characters and one of the strangest protagonists I’ve ever read. at NO TIME did I have any idea where the story was going, which lead to an completely bizarre (but fun!) reading experience. twilight-zonian/gothic...but better. very eager to read more of shirley jackson’s catalogue, because that lady sure knew how to weave a tale. very glad I read this one.
sadie by courtney summers 📻👥🎙
quick synopsis: young adult (mc is nineteen, and imo I feel like this slides into adult tbh)/contemporary/true crime. told from the alternating perspectives of nineteen-year-old sadie, who runs away from home to find her younger sister’s killer, and a true crime podcast exploring sadie’s disappearance.
page count: 308
rating: ★★★
review: sad, awful, raw. that’s this book, simultaneously bright red and angry and deep blue, sadness upon sadness. this book reminds me of every true crime documentary I’ve ever watched---how it wraps itself up in a depressingly soft way, all the emptiness left behind and everything forever-changed. gives me the same icky voyeuristic feeling consuming any true crime content always leaves with me---this peculiar feeling of peering in to others heartbreak, of their horrors. this is a hard book. it’s difficult and not easy to stomach---and it never lets up. know that before you go in. what you may expect/want is NOT what you’ll get. and that’s the trueness of this book. I have my own personal feelings regarding the story, thus the three star rating, but that’s on ME. this book is incredibly well-written and insanely gripping. I finished it the same night I started reading it. if you want a gritty, intense read set in the very bleak reality of our world, this is your book.
# OF 2020 BOOKS READ SO FAR: 17/50
in reflection: my goal for this month was to read ten books, and I did that ...plus four more! so I’m pretty proud of myself, lol! there were a lot of stellar reads this month, and I had so much fun discovering them all! definitely a TON of new favorites to add to my bookshelf! :^)
disclaimer: all fourteen of the books I read this month include/focus on potentially triggering content, although they do fluctuate on the scale of intensity and subject matter. my wrap-up reviews do not contain spoilers/a comprehensive list of potential triggers. I urge everyone to do their own research regarding the content of these books if you’re interested in reading them, and I’m always available for questions. my reviews are just that, reviews, and books that work for me may not work for you (and vice versa).
Intrigue
Requested: Anon - If I could make a Malachi x reader request if you write Ghoulies? Reader constantly getting into trouble at Riverdale high so she's sent to Southside High after being expelled. When moving to Southside she starts up her mischief again and catches the eyes of the Ghoulies. She gets taken to Malachai for spray painting Ghoulie terf at school and the reader and Malachai instantly click?
A/N: hope you like this!. I also decided to stop doing mood boards unless I have inspiration, forcing myself to make them for every story is pointless. Also, be sure to send in requests because mine are open.
Word Count: about 1890
*Flashback*
“Look principle Honey, I didn't mean to…”
“Didn’t mean to what Y/N? Dye Briane’s hair blue with her shampoo?”
“Hey, not my fault she stole it out of my shower bag” In reality, it was your fault you hated Briane, a girl constantly causing trouble for anyone she came into contact with. You wanted payback. Payback for the way she talked about your friends, and family. So you played a helpless prank on her, and you got in trouble.
“You still did it on purpose Ms. Y/N”
“And you are proving that how…”
“Ms. Y/N some respect please”
“Mr. Honey, you are talking about respect here when you have none for me. I did nothing wrong to Briane. You are siding with her because of our past. Because she is from the rich side of the North. Years I have been bullied by her and not once did I punch or cause blood, because I am way more of a decent human being then she is, I did nothing wrong Mr. Honey”
“Fine Ms.Y/N I will call it at a draw and you will both have 2 nights of detention” You smiled to yourself. “However, you are on very, very thin ice considering you were just here a week ago for allegedly replacing the dead frogs with live ones in last weeks biology classes.”
“Mr. Honey…”
“No Ms. Y/N like I said thin ice do you understand”
“Yes sir I do”
“Good now get out of my office”
*Flashback Ended*
“For weeks now you had been warned daily of the thin ice you were on with Mr. Honey, but you kept your distance and your cool. You needed school, needed it to get out of riverdale and not have to deal with the treacherous town. You may have done all those things, but they were innocent pranks to only get back at the ones that wronged you. You needed to defend your turf, it was what you were always taught before your parents passed. Your grandmother engraving into your brain that you needed to protect yourself before protecting others.
School had been a hassle, every teacher constantly watching every move you made. Every student trying to get you out. No one at riverdale ever liked you, they always saw you as the problem child. The one who dressed in dark clothes, and caused trouble, but none of them knew you at all, or had been through or known the things that you have. You went by your day to day after the incident with Mr. Honey, trying to stay out of trouble as possible. You got a detention for not doing homework, but you never got in real trouble. That was until science lab 3rd period two weeks into your thin ice warning. You were paired up with Briane, for an experiment where a cloud of white would rise when the chemicals were combined. You were in charge of the base and she was in charge of the reactant. However, as soon as you looked away to wipe your hands off for safety she poured the entire bottle of reactant in before screaming at the top of her lungs.
“Briane! You are interrupting the other students what is the meaning of this”
“Y/N, Ms. Murphy Y/N put the entire bottle into the mixture” You turned around stunned, you hadn’t even been looking when she did it, and then you saw the bubbles arise and begin to pour over the smoke filling the air”
“Everyone out of the classroom this instant, we will have to have it cleared for safety. Ms. Y/Nand Ms. Briane come to the principal's office with me at once!”
“Mr. Honey before you say anything I didn’t do it, I swear on my life, I was washing my hands when it happened, I wasn't even paying attention”
“Ms. Briane would you like to say your side”
“Oh yes Mr. Honey thank you so much. Well I was minding my business writing down our lab results of the temperature because I had poured the base, and when I looked up Y/N was pouring the whole jar in, I tried to stop her but she just kept pouring and then I screamed because I was scared and Ms. Murphy came over. Oh gosh, I don’t know why she would ever think to do that if we had more harmful chemicals we all could have died!”
“Everything will be fine Ms. Briane, you can leave my office now”
“Thank you, sir”
“Now Ms. Y/N”
“Mr. Honey, I promise I didn’t do it”
“Well it seems there are other stories at play here, and in our previous meeting, I told you, thin ice. I have decided to transfer you to Southside High”
“No Mr. honey please!”
“It is out of my hands Ms. Y/N”
“No it is literally in your hands, you incompetent piece of shit, You know what. I am fucking glad that I am not going to be a part of this pretentious north siders can do no wrong school. Good riddens, asshole!”
“Ms...”
“Shut up, I’m grabbing my stuff and you’ll never see me again, and you know what I am sooo glad I don’t have to look at your stupid face ever again”
You left the school on a bad note but did it really matter when you were going to a school that barely had programs let alone taught the kids what they needed to know. It was as if your entire world crashed down. Your grades would decrease, your barely existent social life would now diminish completely, and most of all your mindset. You gave up on being the girl that was good at school, but bad on the outside.
You started not caring, picked up art. Learned how to tag and make it so your print was known enough to be you but not to be identified in your other works. You praised your art teacher and got very close with her very quickly. You confided in her, she herself was a student at Riverdale high at one point, kicked out because she lived on the southside and they found out. You related with her in a way you hadn’t with anyone else, but that didn’t stop you from doing way worse things than shit Riverdale high could ever fathom.
When you first got to southside high you completely painted your locker, not crazy but definitely not allowed. You took money from people, yeah you never spent any of it, actually put it in for charity collections, not that anyone knew that. Everyone knew you as the new kid, that just did bad shit. No one knew why no one knew your background or history and no one cared to know one bit. You liked it that way, you enjoyed the animosity. You then moved from the school to walk around the town after ditching for the day. You luckily still live in the house your parents had once owned on the northside, now it looked like a rundown abandoned building on the outside, guess that matched the way your life was turning. You tagged the entire gas station, then the park moving up the hills and down the valleys tagging everything in your sight. Art was your outlet and the southside, your canvas. You had no idea you caught the eyes of a gang called the ghoulies. You didn’t know the turfs, or the sides, you were just a visitor in a town with many rules and regulations you had no idea about. You made a mistake tagging the run-down building on the corner, officially in ghoulie territory. But no one had caused you trouble before, so you were not expecting to turn around and find 5 men and women around in black studded jackets.
“Hello…”
“NO bitch tagging our turf who the fuck are you”
“Wait… your turf?”
‘Yes, this is Ghoulie territory and we are taking you to the king” You had no idea what they were talking about, you felt a bang against the back of your head before you were out cold. You woke up slowly words being heard around you your vision slowly clearing from the blurriness
“Spraying our turf huh doll?” You have seen this guy, seen him around the school more often than you like to admit. He always seemed to be where you were, lurking around corners, and tagging his own spots how he would like, but you never said a word to him, your rule of keeping to yourself always in the back of your mind. You knew of the ghoulies enough to know people on the northside were afraid, but in reality, them all standing in front of you, they were no scarier than a group of 3-year-old children.
“What...? Just figured I'd have a little fun, turns out your ghoulies are a lot less scary than people think. Oh, y/n by the way and you are ...”
“Malachai... a lot scarier than people think, nice to meet you doll, boys let her go, and leave the room, I’ll deal with her”
“Deal with me, I like the sound of that” You were let go, dropped to the ground, as Malachai ushered the men out of the room. You got up finding a chair and putting your feet up and onto his desk that resided in the back of the room.
“Off”
“What? The big bad ghoulie is a germaphobe”
“Nah I just like shiny things, and you doll are currently on my radar” He swiped your feet off the desk before plotting on top.
“So what are you gonna do to me dear king?”
“Talk”
“Talk…”
“You are an enigma Y/N, I want to get to know you”
“No one ever does… what do you want from me?”
“Like I said you intrigue me, I just want to get to know who you are. We are… similar”
“I’m not sure we are…”
“Stay here…”
“Alright” Malachai came back with a photobook, a photo book that once we started flipping through you realized it was him, a boy living on the northside. A boy in a big house on cherry street, with a mother and father, and sister. Grandparents, Christmas parties and… then it was taken from you.
“You’re from the northside?
“Like I said we are similar”
“How did you know I am from the northside”
“Lucky guess I’d say”
“And you… lived there?” “There are a lot of things people don’t know about me, like I said we are similar Y/N”
“I wanna know how”
“Guess you’ll have to stay to find out”
“Apparently so”
